This study discusses the application of deep learning technology in network intrusion detection systems (IDS) and focuses on a new model named CNN-Focal. First, through the review of traditional IDS technology, it analyzes its limitations in dealing with complex network traffic. Then, the design principle of the CNN-Focal model is described in detail, which uses threshold convolution and SoftMax multi-class classification technology to effectively improve abnormal traffic detection's accuracy and efficiency. The experimental results show that CNN-Focal performs well on the open data set, demonstrating the potential and advantages of its application in the natural network environment and providing a new perspective and method for further research of deep learning in the field of network security in the future.

World Health Organization (WHO) provides the guideline for managing the Particulate Matter (PM) level because when the PM level is higher, it threats the human health. For managing PM level, the procedure for measuring PM value is needed firstly. We use Tapered Element Oscillating Microbalance (TEOM)-based PM measuring sensors because it shows higher cost-effectiveness than Beta Attenuation Monitor (BAM)-based sensor. However, TEOM-based sensor has higher probability of malfunctioning than BAM-based sensor. In this paper, we call the overall malfunction as an anomaly, and we aim to detect anomalies for the maintenance of PM measuring sensors. We propose a novel architecture for solving the above aim that named as Hypothesis Pruning Generative Adversarial Network (HP-GAN). We experimentally compare the several anomaly detection architectures to certify ours performing better.

The CAN protocol is widely adopted for in-vehicle networks due to its cost efficiency and reliable transmission. However, despite its popularity, the protocol lacks built-in security mechanisms, making it vulnerable to various attacks such as flooding, fuzzing, and DoS. These attacks can exploit vulnerabilities and disrupt the normal behavior of the in-vehicle network. One of the main reasons for these security concerns is that the protocol relies on broadcast frames for communication between ECUs within the network. To tackle this issue, this paper presents an intrusion detection system that leverages multiple LSTM-Autoencoders. The proposed system utilizes diverse features, including transmission interval and payload value changes, to capture various characteristics of normal network behavior. By analyzing different types of features separately using the LSTM-Autoencoder model, the system effectively detects anomalies. In our evaluation, we conducted experiments using real vehicle network traffic, and the results demonstrated the system's high precision with a 99% detection rate in identifying anomalies.

This study investigates anomaly detection of IoT device traffic using Convolutional Neural Networks (CNN) and Variational Autoencoders (VAE) to enhance the detection capability of security threats in IoT environments. A series of hardware configurations, software environments, and hyperparameters were utilized to optimize the training and testing processes of the models. The CNN model demonstrates robust classification performance, achieving an accuracy rate of 95.85% on the test dataset, effectively distinguishing between different types of IoT device traffic. Meanwhile, the VAE model exhibits proficient anomaly detection capabilities by effectively capturing abnormal patterns in the data using reconstruction loss and KL divergence. The combined use of CNN and VAE models offers a comprehensive solution to cybersecurity challenges in IoT environments. Future research directions include exploring diverse IoT traffic data, practical deployment for validation, and further optimization of model structures and parameters to improve performance and applicability.

Existing methods of hyperspectral anomaly detection still face several challenges: 1) Due to the limitations of self-supervision, avoiding the identity mapping of anomalies remains difficult; 2) The ineffective interaction between spatial and spectral features leads to the insufficient utilization of spatial information; 3) Current methods are not adaptable to the detection of multi-scale anomaly targets. To address the aforementioned challenges, we proposed a blind spot network based on multi-scale blind spot convolution for HAD. The multi-scale mask convolution module is employed to adapt to diverse scales of anomaly targets, while the dynamic fusion module is introduced to integrate the advantages of mask convolutions at different scales. The proposed approach includes a spatial-spectral joint module and a background feature attention mechanism to enhance the interaction between spatial-spectral features, with a specific emphasis on highlighting the significance of background features within the network. Furthermore, we propose a preprocessing technique that integrates pixel shuffle down-sampling (PD) operation with spatial spectral joint screening to address the issue of anomalous identity map-ping and facilitate finite-scale mask convolution to adapt to the detection of more scale targets. The proposed approach was assessed on four real hyperspectral datasets comprising anomaly targets of different scales. The experimental results demonstrate the effectiveness and superior performance of the proposed methodology compared with nine state-of-the art methods.

In this paper, we review and advance the application of deep learning algorithms for anomaly detection in Software Defined Networks (SDN). As SDN environments become more prevalent in modern networking infrastructures, their centralized control and dynamic nature make them susceptible to various security threats, including Distributed Denial of Service (DDoS) attacks, data breaches, and unauthorized access. Traditional anomaly detection techniques often fall short in adapting to these evolving threats, necessitating more robust, adaptive solutions. This study evaluates three prominent deep learning architectures—Convolutional Neural Networks (CNNs), Recurrent Neural Networks (RNNs), and Autoencoders—for their effectiveness in detecting anomalous behavior in SDN environments. Through extensive experimentation, we compare these models in terms of accuracy, precision, recall, F1-score, and ROC-AUC, highlighting their strengths and limitations. Our results show that CNNs excel in detecting spatial anomalies, RNNs are wellsuited for temporal anomaly detection, and Autoencoders provide robust detection for previously unseen anomalies. Additionally, we examine the sensitivity of threshold settings in Autoencoders and assess the real-time feasibility of these models by measuring their inference times. The findings suggest that deep learning-based anomaly detection significantly enhances the security of SDNs, providing both accuracy and speed suitable for real-time applications. Finally, we propose future directions for optimizing deep learning models to handle large-scale, dynamic SDN deployments more effectively. This work contributes to the growing body of research focused on utilizing deep learning for improving the security and resilience of SDN-based infrastructures.

This paper incorporates the definition of Intrusion Detection Systems and the methodologies utilised by these systems. As well as this, this research paper also encompasses a taxonomy and a survey of IDS and the specific strategies and principles. Finally, this paper also includes a discussion amongst other authors for instance what the authors differ and agree on, along with the previously related studies.

With the fast development of the mobile Internet, the online platforms of social networks have rapidly been developing for the purpose of making friends, sharing information, etc. In these online platforms, users being related to each other forms social networks. Literature reviews have shown that social networks have community structure. Through the studies of community structure, the characteristics and functions of networks structure and the dynamical evolution mechanism of networks can be used for predicting user behaviours and controlling information dissemination. Therefore, this study proposes a deep community detection method which includes (1) matrix reconstruction method, (2) spatial feature extraction method and (3) community detection method. The original adjacency matrix in social network is reconstructed based on the opinion leader and nearer neighbors for obtaining spatial proximity matrix. The spatial eigenvector of reconstructed adjacency matrix can be extracted by an auto-encoder based on convolution neural network for the improvement of modularity. In experiments, four open datasets of practical social networks were selected to evaluate the proposed method, and the experimental results show that the proposed deep community detection method obtained higher modularity than other methods. Therefore, the proposed deep community detection method can effectively detect high quality communities in social networks.

Financial fraud refers to the act of obtaining financial benefits through dishonest means. Such acts not only disrupt the order of the financial market, but also harm social and economic development, and breed other illegal and criminal acts. With the proliferation of the internet and online payment methods, many fraudulent activities and money laundering have shifted from offline to online, posing a significant challenge for regulators. In this work, we proposed a novel detection model by utilizing the graph neural network. Specifically, the general model structure includes the combination of Graph Convolutional Network (GCN) and Graph Attention Network (GAT), which can effectively capture the complex relationships and features in the financial transaction network. By building a multilayer graph neural network, the model can perform deep learning on the implicit patterns between nodes, thereby improving the accuracy of fraud detection. Experimental analysis results show that the performance of the proposed method on multiple public datasets is better than that of traditional methods, showing its potential in practical application.

Computer-aided image diagnostics (CAD) have been used in many fields of diagnostic medicine. It relies heavily on classical computer vision and artificial intelligence. Quantum neural network (QNN) has been introduced by many researchers around the world and presented recently by research corporations such as Microsoft, Google, and IBM. In this paper, the investigation of the validity of using the QNN algorithm for machine-based breast cancer detection was performed. To validate the learnability of the QNN, a series of learnability tests were performed alongside with classical convolutional neural network (CCNN). QNN is built using the Cirq library to perform the assimilation of quantum computation on classical computers. Series of investigations were performed to study the learnability characteristics of QNN and CCNN under the same computational conditions. The comparison was performed for real Mammogram data sets. The investigations showed success in terms of recognizing the data and training. Our work shows better performance of QNN in terms of successfully training and producing a valid model for smaller data set compared to CCNN.

The Station logo is a way for a TV station to claim copyright, which can realize the analysis and understanding of the video by the identification of the station logo, so as to ensure that the broadcasted TV signal will not be illegally interfered. In this paper, we design a station logo detection method based on Convolutional Neural Network by the characteristics of the station, such as small scale-to-height ratio change and relatively fixed position. Firstly, in order to realize the preprocessing and feature extraction of the station data, the video samples are collected, filtered, framed, labeled and processed. Then, the training sample data and the test sample data are divided proportionally to train the station detection model. Finally, the sample is tested to evaluate the effect of the training model in practice. The simulation experiments prove its validity.

The evolution in imaging technologies and artificial intelligence algorithms, coupled with improvements in UAV technology, has enabled the use of unmanned aircraft in a wide range of applications. The feasibility of this kind of approach for cattle monitoring has been demonstrated by several studies, but practical use is still challenging due to the particular characteristics of this application, such as the need to track mobile targets and the extensive areas that need to be covered in most cases. The objective of this study was to investigate the feasibility of using a tilted angle to increase the area covered by each image. Deep Convolutional Neural Networks (Xception architecture) were used to generate the models for the experiments, which covered aspects like ideal input dimensions, effect of the distance between animals and sensor, effect of classification error on the overall detection process, and impact of physical obstacles on the accuracy of the model. Experimental results indicate that oblique images can be successfully used under certain conditions, but some practical limitations need to be addressed in order to make this approach appealing.

Surface defect detection based on machine vision and convolutional neural networks (CNNs) is an important and necessary process that enables rubber ring manufacturers to improve production quality and efficiency. However, such automatic detection always consumes substantial computer resources to guarantee detection accuracy. To solve this problem, in this paper, we present a CNNs optimization algorithm based on the Ghost module. First, we replace the convolutional layer with the Ghost module in CNNs so that feature maps can be generated using cheaper linear operations. Second, we use an optimization method to obtain the best replacement of the Ghost module to achieve a balance between computer resource consumption and detection accuracy. Finally, we use an image preprocessing method that includes inverting colors. We integrated this algorithm into YOLOv5, which we trained on a dataset with 122 images of rubber ring surface defects. Compared with the original network, the network size decreased by 30.5% and the computational cost decreased by 23.1% whereas average precision only decreased by 1.8%. Additionally, the network's training time decreased by 16.1% as a result of preprocessing. These results show that the proposed approach greatly helped practical rubber ring surface defect detection.

In detecting DDoS, deep learning faces challenges and difficulties such as high computational demands, long training times, and complex model interpretation. This research focuses on overcoming these challenges by proposing an effective strategy for detecting DDoS attacks in unbalanced network environments. This research uses SMOTE to increase the class distribution of the data set by allowing models using LSTM to learn time anomalies effectively when DDoS attacks occur. The experiments carried out have shown significant improvement in the performance of the LSTM model when integrated with SMOTE. These include validation loss results of 0.048 for LSTM SMOTE and 0.1943 for LSTM without SMOTE, accuracy of 99.50 and 97.50. Apart from that, there was an increase in the f1 score from 93.4% to 98.3%. In this research, it is proven that SMOTE can be used as an effective strategy to improve model performance in detecting DDoS attacks on heterogeneous networks, as well as increasing model robustness and reliability.

To effectively preserve marine environments and manage endangered species, it is necessary to employ efficient, precise, and scalable solutions for environmental monitoring. Ecoacoustics provides several benefits as it enables non-intrusive, prolonged sampling of environmental sounds, making it a promising tool for conducting biodiversity surveys. However, analyzing and interpreting acoustic data can be time-consuming and often demands substantial human supervision. This challenge can be addressed by harnessing contemporary methods for automated audio signal analysis, which have exhibited remarkable performance due to advancements in deep learning research. This paper introduces a research investigation into developing an automatic computerized system to detect dolphin whistles. The proposed method utilizes a fusion of various resnet50 networks integrated with data augmentation techniques. Through extensive experiments conducted on a publically available benchmark, our findings demonstrate that our ensemble yields significant performance enhancements across all evaluated metrics. This work attempts to answer in a clear way the following key questions regarding the optimal initialization of the Sysmon tool, towards the identification of Lateral Movement in the MS Windows ecosystem. First, from an expert’s standpoint and with reference to the relevant literature, what are the criteria of determining the possibly optimal initialization features of the Sysmon’s event monitoring tool, which are also applicable as custom rules within the config.xml configuration file? Second, based on the identified features, how can a functional configuration file, able to identify as many LM variants as possible, be generated? To answer these questions, we relied on the MITRE ATT&CK knowledge base of adversary tactics and techniques, and focused on the execution of the nine commonest LM methods. The conducted experiments, performed on a properly configured testbed, suggested a great number of interrelated networking features, that were implemented as custom rules in the Sysmon’s config.xml file. Moreover, by capitalizing on the rich corpus of the 870K Sysmon logs collected, we create and evaluate in terms of TP and FP rates an extensible Python .evtx file analyzer, dubbed PeX, which can be used towards automatizing the parsing and scrutiny of such voluminous files. Both the .evtx logs dataset and the developed PeX tool are provided publicly for further propelling future research in this interesting and rapidly evolving field.

Hyperspectral small target detection (HSTD) is a promising pixel-level detection task. However, due to the low contrast and imbalance number between the target and background spatially and high dimensions spectrally, it is a challenging one. To address these issues, this work proposes a representation learning-based graph and generative network for hyperspectral small target detection. The model builds a fusion network through frequency representation for HSTD, where the novel architecture incorporates irregular topological data and the spatial-spectral feature to improve its representation ability. Firstly, a graph convolutional network (GCN) module better models the non-local topological relationship between samples to represent the hyperspectral scene’s underlying data structure. The mini-batch-training pattern of the GCN decreases the high computational cost of building an adjacency matrix for high-dimensional data sets. In parallel, the generative model enhances the differentiation reconstruction and the deep feature representation ability with respect to the target spectral signature. Finally, a fusion module compensates for the extracted different types of HS features and integrates their complementary merits for hyperspectral data interpretation while increasing detection and background suppression capabilities. Experiments on different hyperspectral data sets demonstrate the advantages of the proposed architecture.

The article focusses on detecting the unbalance of a mechanical component in the electric drive system of a two-mass servomechanism with a PMSM motor, which is connected to the load via a long, flexible shaft. In the example analysed, the degree of unbalance was determined using the reference current signal from the speed controller of the FOC control system. The authors pre-sented a two-mass model with an unbalanced mechanical system. The STFT transform was used to analyse the symptoms of unbalance and an artificial neural network MLP was used for system state inference. The effectiveness of the presented analysis, based on the reference current signal from the sensor embedded in the control system, was experimentally confirmed.

Identifying fake news on the media has been an important issue. This is especially true considering the wide spread of rumors on the popular social networks such as Twitter. Various kinds of techniques have been proposed for automatic rumor detection. In this work, we study the application of graph neural networks for rumor classification at a lower level, instead of applying existing neural network architectures to detect rumors. The responses to true rumors and false rumors display distinct characteristics. This suggests that it is essential to capture such interactions in an effective manner for a deep learning network to achieve better rumor detection performance. To this end we present a simplified aggregation graph neural network architecture. Experiments on publicly available Twitter datasets demonstrate that the proposed network has performance on a par with or even better than that of state-of-the-art graph convolutional networks, while significantly reducing the computational complexity.

Advances in computing technology provide an opportunity to grow and develop an effective crop protection system. This study is a new way of diagnosing plant diseases using a deep and convolutional neural network. Deep learning is the strengthened method of machine learning. It uses a neural network that imitates like a human brain and gains certain information. Although powerful, its training process necessitates millions of tagged data points. The study's Methodology consists of three key stages: data acquisition, pre-processing, and Model Building.

Pedestrian detection is the core of driver assistance system, which collects the road conditions through the radars or cameras on the vehicle, judges whether there is a pedestrian in front of the vehicle, supports decisions such as raising the alarm, automatically slowing down or emergency stopping to keep pedestrians safe, and improves the security when the vehicle is moving. Suffered from weather, lighting, clothing, large pose variations and occlusion, the current pedestrian detection still has a certain distance from the practical applications. In recent years, deep networks have shown excellent performance for image detection, recognition and classification. Some researchers employed deep network for pedestrian detection and achieve great progress, but deep networks need huge computational resources which make it difficult to put into practical applications. In real scenarios of autonomous vehicle, the computation ability is limited. Thus, the shallow networks such as UDN (Unified Deep Networks) is a better choice since it performs well on consuming less computation resources. Base on UDN, this paper proposes a new deep network model named as two-stream UDN, which augments another branch for solving traditional UDN’s indistinction of the difference between trees / telegraph poles and pedestrians. The new branch accepts the upper third part of the pedestrian image as input, and the partial image has less deformation, stable features and more distinguished characters from other objects. For the proposed two-stream UDN, multi-input features including HOG feature, Sobel feature, color feature and foreground regions extracted by GrabCut segmentation algorithms are fed. Compared with the original input of UDN, the multi-input features are more conducive for pedestrian detection since the fused HOG features and significant objects are more significant for pedestrian detection. Two-stream UDN is trained through two steps: First, the two sub-networks are trained until converge; then we fuse results of the two subnets as the final result and feed it back to the two subnets to fine tune network parameters synchronously. To improve the performance, Softplus is adopted as activation function to obtain faster training speed, and positive samples are mirrored and rotated with small angle to make positive and negative samples more balanced.

With the rapid development of Internet of Things (IoT)-based near-earth remote sensing technology, the problem of network intrusion for near-earth remote sensing systems has become more complex and large-scale. Therefore, it is essential to seek an intelligent, automated, and robust network intrusion detection method. In recent years, network intrusion detection methods based on graph neural networks (GNNs) have been proposed. However, there are still some practical issues with these methods. For example, they have not taken into consideration the characteristics of near-earth remote sensing systems, the state of the nodes, and the temporal features. Therefore, this article analyzes the characteristics of existing near-earth remote sensing systems and proposes a spatio-temporal graph attention network (N-STGAT) that considers the state of nodes. The proposed network applies spatiotemporal graph neural networks to the network intrusion detection of near-earth remote sensing systems and validates the effectiveness of the proposed method on the latest flow-based dataset.

The zoonotic disease known as monkeypox, which is related to smallpox, can be difficult to diagnose since it resembles other illnesses that might cause the same symptoms. In this study, we present an accurate technique for monkeypox detection based on convolutional neural networks (CNNs). Our method improves diagnosis reliability by having the CNN model incorporate a dataset of nine important symptoms. For creating CNN-based monkeypox detection system, the researchers used a collection of high-definition photos and nine symptoms. The model was constructed using TensorFlow's Keras API and Python 3.10, classifying lesions based on a probabilistic score. A likelihood greater than 50% on CNN indicated that the case was really monkeypox. If not, five or more symptoms suggested that monkeypox may be present with metrics including accuracy, precision, recall, and F1-score. The study developed a CNN model to predict monkeypox from lesion images and symptom analysis. The model, built with layers including convolutional, pooling, and fully connected, achieved high accuracy and low loss, with metrics like ROC AUC (0.84), precision (0.78), and recall (0.90). The model effectively differentiates between monkeypox and other conditions. Tables illustrate the model's predictions based on various symptom combinations, highlighting its capability to assess monkeypox risk with high confidence. The study developed a CNN model integrating patient symptoms and skin lesion images for accurate monkeypox diagnosis. With a balanced accuracy of 82%, F1-Score of 84%, and sensitivity and specificity of 80% and 85%, respectively, the model effectively distinguishes monkeypox from similar illnesses. It demonstrated resilience despite limited high-resolution images, emphasizing the potential of CNNs in medical diagnosis. The model's performance can be further improved by incorporating additional data and advanced techniques, enhancing early detection in future outbreaks.

Here we present a fast and highly scalable community structure preserving network module detection that recursively integrates graph sparsification and clustering. Our algorithm, called SparseClust, participated in the most recent DREAM community challenge on disease module identification, an open competition to comprehensively assess module identification methods across a wide range of biological networks.

Using smartphone especially android platform has already got eighty percent market shares, due to aforementioned report, it becomes attacker’s primary goal. There is a growing number of private data onto smart phones and low safety defense measure, attackers can use multiple way to launch and to attack user’s smartphones.(e.g. Using different coding style to confuse the software of detecting malware). Existing android malware detection methods use multiple features, like safety sensor API, system call, control flow structure and data information flow, then using machine learning to check whether its malware or not. These feature provide app’s unique property and limitation, that is to say, from some perspectives it might suit for some specific attack, but wouldn’t suit for others. Nowadays most malware detection methods use only one aforementioned feature, and these methods mostly analysis to detect code, but facing the influence of malware’s code confusion and zero-day attack, aforementioned feature extraction method may cause wrong judge. So, it’s necessary to design an effective technique analysis to prevent malware. In this paper, we use the importance of word from apk, because of code confusion, some malware attackers only rename variables, if using general static analysis wouldn’t judge correctly, then use these importance value to go through our proposed method to generate picture, finally using convolutional neural network to see whether the apk file is malware or not.

AYOLO differentiates itself with a new fusion architecture proposal that leverages the strengths of unsupervised learning and integrates the Vision Transformer approach, taking the YOLO series models as a reference. This innovation enables the model to effectively use rich, unlabeled data, providing a new example in pre-training methodology for YOLO architectures. On the benchmark COCO val2017 dataset, AYOLO demonstrates its superiority by achieving an impressive 38.7 % AP while maintaining an outstanding rendering speed of 239 FPS (Frame Per Second) on the Tesla K80 GPU. This performance outperforms the previous state-of-the-art YOLO v6-3.0 by a significant margin of +2.2 % AP while maintaining comparable FPS. AYOLO is presented as a demonstration of the potential of integrating complex information fusion techniques with supervised pretraining in improving the precision and speed of object detection models.

Wearing gloves while operating machinery in workshops is an essential precaution to prevent mechanical injuries and burns from high temperatures, among other potential hazards. Ensuring workers are properly equipped with gloves, which is a crucial measure in accident prevention. Glove images often occupy a minimal proportion of the frame and are easily obscured by cluttered backgrounds, especially with limited edge computing resources. Consequently, this study proposes a glove detection algorithm called YOLOv8-AFPN-M-C2f based on YOLOv8, offering swifter detection speeds, lower computational demands, and enhanced accuracy for workshop scenarios. This research innovates by substituting the head of YOLOv8 with the AFPN-M-C2f network, amplifying the pathways for feature vector propagation, and mitigating semantic discrepancies between non-adjacent feature layers. Additionally, the introduction of a superficial feature layer enriches surface feature information, augmenting the model's sensitivity to smaller objects. To assess the performance of the YOLOv8-AFPN-M-C2f model, we conducted multiple experiments using a factory glove detection dataset compiled for this study. The results indicate that the enhanced YOLOv8 model surpasses other network models. Compared to the baseline YOLOv8 model, the refined version shows a 2.6% increase in mAP@50%, a 90.1% rise in FPS, and a 13% reduction in the number of parameters. This research contributes an effective solution for the detection of glove adherence.

We propose a deep-learning approach for the joint MIMO detection and channel decoding problem. Conventional MIMO receivers adopt a model-based approach for MIMO detection and channel decoding in linear or iterative manners. However, due to the complex MIMO signal model, the optimal solution to the joint MIMO detection and channel decoding problem (i.e., the maximum likelihood decoding of the transmitted codewords from the received MIMO signals) is computationally infeasible. As a practical measure, the current model-based MIMO receivers all use suboptimal MIMO decoding methods with affordable computational complexities. This work applies the latest advances in deep learning for the design of MIMO receivers. In particular, we leverage deep neural networks (DNN) with supervised training to solve the joint MIMO detection and channel decoding problem. We show that DNN can be trained to give much better decoding performance than conventional MIMO receivers do. Our simulations show that a DNN implementation consisting of seven hidden layers can outperform conventional model-based linear or iterative receivers. This performance improvement points to a new direction for future MIMO receiver design.

This report covers the analysis of Intrusion Detection Systems nowadays. Therefore, it focuses on the IDS classification, which includes not only a well-known explanation of Network/Host-Based IDS type but also cloud-based solutions. The paper explores ways of intrusion detection, providing examples of the best detecting tools (OSSEC, Snort or Bro (ZEEK)). Another aspect covered in this report is the juxtaposition of three systems: IDS, IPS and IRS and their response. Finally, there will be presented Intrusion Detection Systems' evasion techniques and challenges, followed by critical conclusions.

Abstract: Botnets pose a grave cybersecurity threat, enabling widescale malicious activities through networks of compromised devices. Detecting botnets is challenging given their frequent use of evasion techniques like encryption. Traditional signature-based methods fail against modern botnets capable of zero-day attacks. This paper surveys recent advances applying machine learning for botnet detection based on analysis of network traffic payloads, flows, DNS data, and hybrid feature fusion. Core machine learning models include support vector machines, neural networks, random forests, and deep learning architectures, which extract patterns to separate benign and botnet behaviors automatically. Results demonstrate machine learning's capabilities in identifying heterogeneous botnets using artefacts in network streams. However, challenges remain around limited labeled data, real-time streaming, adversarial evasion, and model interpretability. Promising directions involve semi-supervised learning, adversarial training, scalable analytics, and explainable AI to address these gaps. Beyond the technical aspects, responsible development and deployment of botnet detection systems raise ethical considerations around privacy, transparency, and accountability. With diligent cross-disciplinary collaboration, machine learning promises enhanced, generalizable, and trustworthy techniques to combat the serious threat posed by continuously evolving botnets across the digital ecosystem.

Botnets, a prominent threat to IoT security. ‘botnet’ this word is the composition of robot and network. A network of robots used to commit cybercrime. A bot means a compromised end-host or a device which is a member of a botnet. [2] Governments have become a popular target for malicious attacks. This is due to them holding mass confidential data on their network.

AYOLO differentiates itself with a new fusion architecture proposal that leverages the strengths of unsupervised learning and integrates the Vision Transformer approach, taking the YOLO series models as a reference. This innovation enables the model to effectively use rich, unlabeled data, providing a new example in pre-training methodology for YOLO architectures. On the benchmark COCO val2017 dataset, AYOLO demonstrates its superiority by achieving an impressive 38.7 % AP while maintaining an outstanding rendering speed of 239 FPS (Frame Per Second) on the Tesla K80 GPU. This performance outperforms the previous state-of-the-art YOLO v6-3.0 by a significant margin of +2.2 % AP while maintaining comparable FPS. AYOLO is presented as a demonstration of the potential of integrating complex information fusion techniques with supervised pretraining in improving the precision and speed of object detection models.

Numerous image processing techniques (IPTs) have been employed to detect crack defects, offering an alternative to human-conducted onsite inspections. These IPTs manipulate images to extract defect features, particularly cracks in surfaces produced through Additive Manufacturing (AM). This article presents a vision-based approach that utilizes deep convolutional neural networks (CNNs) for crack detection in AM surfaces. Traditional image processing techniques face challenges with diverse real-world scenarios and varying crack types. To overcome these challenges, our proposed method leverages CNNs, eliminating the need for extensive feature extraction. Annotation for CNN training is facilitated by LabelImg without the requirement for additional IPTs. The trained CNN, enhanced by OpenCV preprocessing techniques, achieves an outstanding 99.54% accuracy on a dataset of 14,982 annotated images with resolutions of 1536 × 1103 pixels. Evaluation metrics exceeding 96% precision, 98% recall, and a 97% F1-score highlight the precision and effectiveness of the entire process.

Stemming from the object overlap and undertraining from the few samples, the road dense object detection is confronted with the poor object identification performance and the inability to recognize edge objects. Based on this, one transfer learning-based YOLOv3 approach for identifying dense objects in the road has been proposed. Firstly, Darknet-53 network structure is adopted to obtain pre-trained YOLOv3 model, then the transfer training is introduced as the output layer for the special dataset of 2000 images containing vehicles; in the proposed model, one random function is adapted to intialize and optimize the weights of the transfer training model, which is seperately designed from the pre-trained YOLOv3; and the object detection classifier replaces the fully connected layer, which further improves the detection effect, the reduced size of the network model can further reduce the training and detection time, and can be better applied to actual scenarios. The experimental results demonstrate that the object detection accuracy of the presented approach is 87.75% for the Pascal VOC 2007 dataset, which is superior to the traditional YOLOv3 and the traditional YOLOv2 by 3.05% and 11.15%, respectively. Besides, the test was carried out using UA-DETRAC, a public road vehicle detection dataset, the object detection accuracy of the presented approach reaches 79.23% in detecting images, which is 4.13% better than the traditional YOLOv3, and compared with the existing relatively new object detection algorithm YOLOv5, the detection accuracy is 1.36% better. Moreover, the detection speed of the proposed YOLOv3 method reaches 31.2 Fps/s in detecting images, which is 7.6 Fps/s faster than the traditional YOLOv3, and compared with the existing relatively new object detection algorithm YOLOv5, the speed is 4.3 Fps/s faster; the proposed YOLOv3 performs 79.38Bn of floating point operations per second in detecting video, which obviously surpasses the traditional YOLOv3 and the newer object detection algorithm YOLOv5.

Wi-Fi tethering using a mobile device (e.g., a smartphone or a tablet) as a hotspot for other devices has become a common practice. Despite the potential benefits of Wi-Fi tethering, the open source nature of mobile operating systems (e.g., Google Android) can be abused by a selfish device to manipulate channel-access parameters to gain an unfair advantage in throughput performance. This can cause serious performance problems within a well-planned Wi-Fi network due to an unauthorized selfish or misconfigured tethering device interfering with nearby well-planned access points (APs). In this paper, we demonstrate that the selfish behavior of a tethering node that adjusts the clear channel assessment (CCA) threshold has strong adverse effects in a multi-AP network, while providing the selfish node a high throughput gain. To mitigate this problem, we present a passive online detection scheme that identifies the network condition and detects selfish tethering nodes with high accuracy by exploiting the packet loss information of on-going transmissions. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first research to consider the problem of detecting a selfish tethering node in managed Wi-Fi networks.

The popularity and development of social media has made it more and more convenient to spread rumors, and it has become especially important to detect rumor information from massive amounts of information. Most of the traditional rumor detection methods use content characteristics or propagation structure to mine rumor characteristics, ignoring the fusion characteristics of content and structure and their interaction characteristics. Therefore, a novel rumor detection method based on heterogeneous convolutional networks is proposed. Firstly, this paper constructs a heterogeneous map of joint rumor content and propagation structure to explore the interaction between content and propagation structure during rumor propagation and obtain rumor representation. On that basis, this paper uses the deep residual graph convolutional neural network to construct the content and structure interaction information of the current network propagation model. Finally, this paper uses the two datasets of Twitter15 and Twitter16 to verify the proposed method. Experimental results show that the proposed method has higher detection accuracy than the traditional rumor detection method.

The article’s goal is to overview challenges and problems on the way from the state of the art CUDA accelerated neural networks code to multi-GPU code. For this purpose, the authors describe the journey of porting the existing in the GitHub, fully-featured CUDA accelerated Darknet engine to OpenCL. The article presents lessons learned and the techniques that were put in place to make this port happen. There are few other implementations on the GitHub that leverage the OpenCL standard, and a few have tried to port Darknet as well. Darknet is a well known convolutional neural network (CNN) framework. The authors of this article investigated all aspects of the porting and achieved the fully-featured Darknet engine on OpenCL. The effort was focused not only on the classification with the use of YOLO1, YOLO2, and YOLO3 CNN models. They also covered other aspects, such as training neural networks, and benchmarks to look for the weak points in the implementation. The GPU computing code substantially improves Darknet computing time compared to the standard CPU version by using underused hardware in existing systems. If the system is OpenCL-based, then it is practically hardware independent. In this article, the authors report comparisons of the computation and training performance compared to the existing CUDA-based Darknet engine in the various computers, including single board computers, and, different CNN use-cases. The authors found that the OpenCL version could perform as fast as the CUDA version in the compute aspect, but it is slower in memory transfer between RAM (CPU memory) and VRAM (GPU memory). It depends on the quality of OpenCL implementation only. Moreover, loosening hardware requirements by the OpenCL Darknet can boost applications of DNN, especially in the energy-sensitive applications of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning (ML).

Detecting people and technical objects in various situations, such as natural disasters and warfare, is critical to search and rescue operations and the safety of the civilian. A fast and accurate detection for people and equipment can significantly increase the effectiveness of search and rescue missions and provide timely assistance to people. Computer vision and deep learning technologies play a key role in detecting the required objects due to their ability to analyse big volumes of visual data in real time. The performance of the neural networks such as YOLOv4-v8, Faster R-CNN, SSD, and EfficientDet has been analysed using COCO2017, SARD, SeaDronesSee, and VisDrone2019 datasets. Main criteria for comparison were mAP, Precision, Recall, F1-Score, and the ability of the neural network to work in real time. The most important metrics for evaluating the efficiency and performance of models for a given task are accuracy (mAP), F1-Score, and processing speed (FPS). These metrics allow us to evaluate both the accuracy of object recognition and the ability to use the models in real-world environments where high processing speed is important. Although different neural networks perform better on certain types of metrics, YOLO outperforms them on all metrics, showing the best results of mAP-0.88, F1 - 0.88, and FPS - 48, so the focus was on these models.

Facial emotion detection is a challenging task that deals with emotion recognition. It has applications in various domains, such as behavior analysis, surveillance systems and human-computer interaction (HCI). Numerous studies have been implemented to detect emotions, including classical machine learning algorithms and advanced deep learning algorithms. For the machine learning algorithm, the hand-crafted feature needs to be extracted, which is a tiring task and requires human effort. Whereas in deep learning models, automated feature extraction is employed from samples. Therefore, in this study, we have proposed a novel and efficient deep learning model based on Neural Architecture Search Network utilizing superior artificial networks such as RNN and child networks. We performed the training utilizing the FER 2013 dataset comprising seven classes: happy, angry, neutral, sad, surprise, fear, and disgust. Furthermore, we analyzed the robustness of the proposed model on CK+ datasets and comparing with existing techniques. Due to the implication of reinforcement learning in the network, most representative features are extracted from the sample network. It extracts all key features without losing the key information. Our proposed model is based on one stage classifier and performs efficient classification. Our technique outperformed the existing models attaining an accuracy of 98.14%, recall of 97.57%, and precision of 97.84%.

With the continuous development of network technology, complex network systems generate massive unbalanced attack traffic. Due to the severe imbalance in the quantities of normal samples and attack samples, as well as among different types of attack samples, intrusion detection systems suffer from low detection rates for rare class attack data. In this paper, we propose a geometric synthetic minority oversampling technique based on optimized kernel density estimation algorithm. This method can generate diverse rare class attack data by learning the distribution of rare class attack data while maintaining similarity with the original sample features. Meanwhile, the balanced data is input to a feature extraction module built upon multiple denoising autoencoders, reducing information redundancy in high-dimensional data and improving the detection performance for unknown attacks. Subsequently, a soft voting ensemble learning technique is utilized for multi-class anomaly detection on the balanced and dimensionally reduced data. Finally, an intrusion detection system is constructed based on data preprocessing, imbalance handling, feature extraction, and anomaly detection modules, and validated on the NSL-KDD and N-BaIoT datasets. Comparative experiments with baseline models and other state-of-the-art methods demonstrate that the proposed system improves the detection rate of rare class attack data. Furthermore, it achieves a good overall detection rate on the Internet of Things dataset (N-BaIoT), indicating its strong applicability.

Security has become a critical issue in today’s highly distributed and networked systems. Network intrusion detection systems (NIDSs), especially signature-based NIDSs, are being widely deployed in a distributed network environment with the purpose of defending against a variety of network attacks. Most of the commercially available NIDSs are software based and rely on pattern matching to extract the threat from network traffic. The increase in network speed and traffic may make existing algorithms to become a performance bottleneck. Therefore it is very necessary to develop faster and more efficient pattern matching algorithm in order to overcome the troubles on performance of NIDSs. Therefore, we propose a multi fusion pattern matching algorithm for Network Intrusion Detection Systems. The results obtained in percentages from the proposed fusion algorithm given better values in terms processing time in milliseconds than the existing algorithms when data English text are applied to evaluate the fusion performances.

This research proposes a near-infrared hyperspectral imaging/two-branch convolutional neural network (NIR-HSI/2B-CNN) algorithmic scheme to detect mango anthracnose of the species Colletotrichum asianum at the early stages of disease development. In the algorithmic model development, root mean square propagation was used as the solver to train the neural network, given 150 epochs. In addition, spectral raw data was preprocessed to transform it into an understandable and efficient format. The optimal classification model was the 2B-CNN model with 1st-derivative preprocessing, achieving an accuracy of 0.94 for the calibration set and 0.71 for the prediction set. The proposed NIR-HSI/2B-CNN scheme could detect anthracnose mangoes since the the first day of inoculation of the spore suspension (i.e., day 0) through to day 3, achieving a moderate classification accuracy. Meanwhile, the accuracy of conventional convolutional neural networks (CNN) were within a range of 0.66-0.67 for the calibration set and 0.55-0.57 for the prediction set. The results indicated that incorporating spatial features in the 2B-CNN modeling enhanced the prediction performance of the algorithm. The proposed NIR-HSI/2B-CNN algorithmic scheme needs refinements to be able to reliably sort mango fruits into those suitable for premium fresh consumption and export without anthracnose and those for domestic consumption or processing. The novelty of this research lies in the use of NIR-HSI and 2B-CNN algorithm to detect plant pathogens at the early stages of disease development. In addition, the new method of natural simulation to deposit the fungal spores onto the mango surface by spraying spore suspension onto the mango surface where the conidia penetrated unaided into the underneath of the mango peel is proposed.

Corona virus disease (COVID-19) has infected over more than 10 million people around the globe and killed at least 500K worldwide by the end of June 2020. As this disease continues to evolve and scientists and researchers around the world now trying to find out the way to combat this disease in most effective way. Chest X-rays are widely available modality for immediate care in diagnosing COVID-19. Precise detection and diagnosis of COVID-19 from these chest X-rays would be practical for the current situation. This paper proposes one shot cluster based approach for the accurate detection of COVID-19 chest x-rays. The main objective of one shot learning (OSL) is to mimic the way humans learn in order to make classification or prediction on a wide range of similar but novel problems. The core constraint of this type of task is that the algorithm should decide on the class of a test instance after seeing just one test example. For this purpose we have experimented with widely known Generalized Regression and Probabilistic Neural Networks. Experiments conducted with publicly available chest x-ray images demonstrate that the method can detect COVID-19 accurately with high precision. The obtained results have outperformed many of the convolutional neural network based existing methods proposed in the literature.

In aerial image object detection, small targets present significant challenges due to limited pixel information, complex backgrounds, and sensitivity to bounding box perturbations. To tackle these issues, we propose SO-RTDETR for small object detection. The model introduces a Cross-Scale Feature Fusion with S2 (S2-CCFF) module, a Parallelized Patch-Aware attention (PPA) module, and the Normalized Wasserstein Distance (NWD) loss function, leading to significant performance improvements. Specifically, the S2-CCFF module enhances small object information by incorporating an additional S2 layer, while SPDConv downsampling maintains key details and reduces computational cost. The CSPOK-Fusion mechanism integrates global, local, and large branch features, capturing multi-scale representations and effectively mitigating interference from complex backgrounds and occlusions, thereby enhancing the spatial representation of features across scales. The PPA module, embedded in the Backbone network, leverages multi-level feature fusion and attention mechanisms to retain and strengthen small object features, addressing the issue of information loss. The NWD loss function, by focusing on the relative positioning and shape differences of bounding boxes, increases robustness to minor perturbations, enhancing detection accuracy. Experimental results on the VisDrone and NWPU VHR-10 aerial datasets demonstrate that our approach outperforms state-of-the-art detectors.

Defect detection plays a pivotal role in quality control for fabrics. In order to enhance the accuracy and efficiency of fabric defect detection, we have proposed the PRC-Light YOLO model for fabric defect detection and have established a detection system. Firstly, we add new convolution operators in Backbone for the YOLOv7 and integrate them with Extended-Efficient Layer Aggregation Network. This combination constructs a new feature extraction module that not only reduces the computational effort of the network model, but also extracts spatial features effectively. Secondly, we employ multi-branch dilated convolutions feature pyramid, and introduce lightweight upsampling operators to improve performance of the feature fusion network. This module achieves an expanded receptive field by generating real-time adaptive convolution kernels, allowing for the collection of crucial information from regions with a richer contextual context. To further minimize the computation during network model training, we adopt the HardSwish activation function. Finally, we apply the Wise-IOU v3 bounding box loss function as a dynamic non-monotonic focusing mechanism, which decreases adverse gradients from low-quality instances. We conduct data augmentation on real fabric dataset to raise the generalization capability of the PRC-Light YOLO model. Compared with the YOLOv7 model, numerous simulation experiments show that our proposed methods reduce the model’s parameters and computation by 18.03% and 20.53%, respectively. Simultaneously, there has been a 7.6% improvement in mAP.

Online transactions are becoming more popular in present situation where the globe is facing an unknown disease COVID-19. Now authorities of Countries requested peoples to use cashless transaction as far as possible. Practically it is not always possible to use it in all transactions. Since number of such cashless transactions have been increasing during lockdown period due to COVID-19, fraudulent transactions are also increasing in a rapid way. Fraud can be analysed by viewing a series of customer transactions data that was done in his/her previous transactions. Normally banks or other transaction authorities warned their customers about the transaction If any deviation is noticed by them from available patterns. These authorities think that it is possibly of fraudulent transaction. For detection of fraud during COVID-19, banks and credit card companies are applying various methods such as data mining , decision tree, rule based mining, neural network, fuzzy clustering approach and machine learning methods. These approaches is try to find out normal usage pattern of customers based on their past activities. The objective of this paper is to find out such fraud transactions during such unmanageable situation.Digital payment schemes are often threatened by fraudulent activities. Detecting fraud transaction in during money transfer may save customers from financial loss. Mobile based money transactions are focused in this paper for fraud detection. A Deep Learning (DL) framework is suggested in this paper that monitors and detects fraudulent activities. Implementing and applying recurrent neural network on PaySim generated synthetic financial dataset, deceptive transactions are identified. The proposed method is capable to detect deceptive transactions with an accuracy of 99.87%, F1-Score of 0.99 and MSE of 0.01.

Defect detection and identification from fruits and vegetables are particularly challenging for Indian agriculture. Defect Detection is a process to identify the defects or damages in vegetables and fruits, based on the shapes, colors and textures. The local market finds it difficult to cope with the defects and other infections in fruits and vegetables as quality evaluations and classification of vegetables and fruits have become tedious process. Recently, several approaches based on Image processing, Machine Learning and Artificial Intelligence methods have been proposed for the purpose of defect detection. On the basis of classifying the types of defects, related pathogens, and physical and morphological characteristics descriptors, we review the different approaches based on a corpus of 57 articles between 2016 and 2021. In the process of describing the defect analysis, steps from the target articles, algorithms, and methods including qualitative and quantitative evaluation are mainly summarized. The aim of this current review work is to present-day novel images and collects recent defective area calculation methods to detect surface defects of fruits and vegetables using RGB images and to classify whether the fruit is defected or fresh. A rigorous evaluation of many new algorithms provided for quality assurance by researcher’s probes of vegetables and fruits have been conducted in this work. This review work conveys that using the recent identification features will help to decrease the disadvantages in fruit storeroom owing to storage of the affected vegetables and fruits, ie. Preventing the spread of defects and other infections from the infected fruits and vegetables to the fresh ones.

Background: Disruption of alternative splicing (AS) is frequently observed in cancer and it might represent an important signature for tumor progression and therapy. Exon skipping (ES) represents one of the most frequent AS events and in non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) MET exon 14 skipping was shown to be targetable. Methods: We constructed a neural network (NN) specifically designed to detect MET exon 14 skipping events using RNAseq data. Furthermore, for discovery purpose we also developed a sparsely connected autoencoder to identify uncharacterized MET isoforms. Results: The NN had 100% Met exon 14 skipping detection rate, when tested on a manually curated set of 690 TCGA bronchus and lung samples. When globally applied to 2605 TCGA samples, we observed that the majority of false positives was characterized by a blurry coverage of exon 14, but interesting they share a common coverage peak in the second intron and we speculate that this event could be the transcription signature of a LINE1-MET fusion. Conclusions: Taken together our results indicate that neural networks can be an effective tool to provide a quick classification of pathological transcription events and sparsely connected autoencoders could represent the basis for the development of an effective discovery tool.

In traffic scene, pedestrian target detection faces significant issues of misdetection and omission due to factors such as crowd density and obstacle occlusion. To address these challenges and enhance detection accuracy, we propose an improved CCW-YOLO algorithm. The algorithm first introduces a lightweight convolutional layer using GhostConv and incorporates an enhanced C2f module to improve the network's detection performance. Additionally, it integrates the Coordinate Attention module to better capture key points of the targets. Next, the bounding box loss function CIoU Loss at the output of YOLOv5 is replaced with WiseIoU Loss to enhance adaptability to various detection scenarios, thereby further improving accuracy. Finally, we develop a pedestrian count detection system by using PyQt5 to enhance human-computer interaction. Experimental results on the INRIA public dataset show that our algorithm achieves a detection accuracy of 95.6%, representing a 8.7% improvement over the original YOLOv5s algorithm. This advancement significantly enhances the detection of small objects in images and effectively addresses misdetection and omission issues in complex environments. These findings have important practical implications for ensuring traffic safety and optimizing traffic flow.

Attention Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) is a neurodevelopmental disorder that affects attention and behavioral control, characterized by constant presence of inattention and hyperactivity. This article describes a study that used a database with results from tests of voluntary and automatic attentional orientation activity in a complex network of ADHD patients, in order to understand the characteristics of the elements and attentional variability of patients. Centrality metrics and the Louvain method were applied to obtain the network communities. The most important elements of the network were identified and differences in reaction times of the activities were observed in the identified communities. The study provides useful information to understand of deficit hyperactivity disorder spectrum in patients with ADHD.

An autonomous concrete crack inspection system is necessary for preventing hazardous incidents arising from deteriorated concrete surfaces. In this paper, we represent a concrete crack detection framework to aid the process of automated inspection. The proposed approach employs a deep convolutional neural network architecture for crack segmentation from concrete image. The proposed network alleviates the effect of gradient vanishing problem present in deep neural network architectures. A feature silencing module is incorporated in the crack detection framework, for eliminating unnecessary feature maps from the network. The overall performance of the network significantly improves as a result. Experimental results support the benefit of incorporating feature silencing within a convolutional neural network architecture for improving the network’s robustness, sensitivity, and specificity. An added benefit of the proposed architecture is its ability to accommodate for the trade-off between specificity (positive class detection accuracy) and sensitivity (negative class detection accuracy) with respect to the target application. Furthermore, the proposed framework achieves a high precision rate and processing time than crack detection architectures present in literature.

Three-phase motors are commonly adopted in several industrial contexts and their failures can result in costly downtime causing undesired service outages; this way, motor diagnostics is an issue that assumes great importance. To prevent their failures and timely face the considered service outages, a non-invasive method to identify electrical and mechanical faults in three-phase asynchronous electric motors is proposed in the paper. In particular, a measurement strategy along with a machine learning algorithm based on Artificial Neural Network is exploited to properly classify failures. In particular, digitized current samples of each motor phase are first processed by means of FFT and PSD in order to estimate the associated spectrum. Suitable features (in terms of frequency and amplitude of the spectral components) are then singled out to either train or feed a neural network acting as a classifier. The method is preliminary validated on a set of 28 electric motors, and its performance is compared with common state-of-art machine learning techniques. The obtained results show that the proposed methodology is able to reach accuracy levels greater than 98\% in identifying anomalous conditions of three-phase asynchronous motors.

Bone fractures are common injuries that require quick and accurate diagnosis to provide the right medical care. The “convolutional neural network” technique relies mostly on manual inspection, by radiologists and can be laborious and prone to error. The objective of this work was to increase the efficiency and accuracy of fracture identification by automating the examination of X-ray images using convolutional neural networks. A “convolutional neural network” model created to detect bone fractures in X-ray images was used in the present study. The model was trained and validated using an extensive dataset of X-ray images, which included both fractured and nonfractured bones. Multiple convolutional layers were used in the “convolutional neural network” architecture for feature extraction, and pooling and fully connected layers were added for classification. The main measures used to assess the model's performance were sensitivity, specificity, and accuracy. In regard to identifying bone fractures, the “convolutional neural network”-based model outperformed the conventional technique. With significant gains in sensitivity and specificity, this approach achieved a high accuracy rate and decreased the frequency of false positives and false negatives. We used “convolutional neural network” tool in PyTorch for bone fracture detection and we outlined the important considerations that must be considered when attempting to achieve this goal Additionally, we contrasted every study with our baseline. Here our maximum accuracies were 99.05%, 98.60%, 99.45% and 99.74% for epochs 8, 9, 10 and 11, respectively. These findings highlight the model's ability to improve the diagnostic efficiency and accuracy in clinical settings. Using “convolutional neural network” to identify bone fractures from X-ray images is a promising development in medical imaging. In the end, our method improves patient outcomes by ensuring faster and more reliable fracture diagnosis while also lessening the diagnostic burden on radiologists. Subsequent investigations will focus on incorporating this system into clinical procedures and investigating its utilization in real-time emergency situations. Since there was no medical intervention on human subjects in this investigation, trial registration regulations were not applied.

Fake news detection has become a significant topic based on the fast-spreading and detrimental effects of such news. Many methods based on deep neural networks learn clues from claim content and message propagation structure or temporal information, which have been widely recognized. However, such models (i) ignore the fact that information quality is uneven in propagation, which makes semantic representations unreliable. (ii) Most models do not fully leverage spatial and temporal structure in combination. (iii) Finally, internal decision-making processes and results are non-transparent and unexplained. In this study, we develop a trust-aware evidence reasoning and spatiotemporal feature aggregation model for more interpretable and accurate fake news detection. Specifically, we first design a trust-aware evidence reasoning module to calculate the credibility of posts based on a random walk model to discover high-quality evidence. Next, from the perspective of spatiotemporal structure, we design an evidence-representation module to capture the semantic interactions granularly and enhance the reliable representation of evidence. Finally, a two-layer capsule network is designed to aggregate the implicit bias in evidence while capturing the false portions of source information in a transparent and interpretable manner. Extensive experiments on two benchmark datasets indicate that the proposed model can provide explanations for fake news detection results, as well as can achieve better performance, boosting 3.5% in F1-score on average.

The necessity for effective intrusion detection systems (IDS) in big data environments has grown critical due to the rising prevalence of big data systems and the rising amount of security threats. Applying conventional intrusion detection methods to the enormous and intricate data produced by big data ecosystems presents difficulties. Deep learning, has proven to be exceptionally adept at deciphering complex, large-scale data. This study proposes a Deep Learning-based Intrusion Detection System (IDS) created specifically for the Big Data environment. Traditional intrusion detection systems struggle to efficiently identify and prevent cyber threats due to the ever-increasing volume and complexity of data in current networks. We suggest an IDS that makes use of Deep Learning (CNN, LSTM, GAN, etc.), to address this problem. These cutting-edge neural network topologies give the system the ability to process and analyze massive amounts of data for precise intrusion detection. Data collection, data preprocessing, feature engineering, DL model training, intrusion detection, warning generation, and reaction are some of the crucial parts of the suggested IDS. The data collection module mines the Big Data environment for network traffic, system logs, and security event information. To make sure the data is suitable for analysis, it is preprocessed. To improve the detection abilities of the DL models, important features are extracted from the data using feature engineering approaches.

Infrared dim and small target detection is a key technology of various detection tasks. However, due to the lack of shape, texture, and other information, it is a challenging task to detect dim and small targets. Recently, since many traditional algorithms ingore global information of infrared images, they generate some false alarms in complicated environments. To address this problem, in this paper, a coarse-to-fine deep learning-based method is proposed to detect dim and small targets. Firstly, a coarse-to-fine detection framework integrating deep learning and background prediction is applied for detecting targets. The framework contains of coarse detection module and fine detection module. In coarse detection stage, Region Proposal Network (RPN) is employed to generate masks in target candidate regions. Then, for further optimize the result, inpainting is utilized to predict the background by the global semnantic of images. In this paper, inpainting algorithm with a mask aware dynamic filtering module is incorporated into the fine detection stage to estimate background in candidate target areas. Finally, compared with existing algorithms, the experimental results indicate that the proposed framework have effective detection capability and robustness for complex surroundings.

In this paper, PEN3 electronic nose was used to detect and recognize fresh and moldy apples (inoculated with Penicillium expansum and Aspergillusniger) taken Golden Delicious apples as model subject. Firstly, the apples were divided into two groups: apples only inoculated with different molds (Group A) and mixed apples of inoculated apples with fresh apples (Group B). Then the characteristic gas sensors of the PEN3 electronic nose that were most closely correlated with the flavor information of the moldy apples were optimized and determined, which can simplify the analysis process and improve the accuracy of results. Four pattern recognition methods, including linear discriminant analysis (LDA), backpropagation neural network (BPNN), support vector machines (SVM) and radial basis function neural network (RBFNN), were then applied to analyze the data obtained from the characteristic sensors, respectively, aiming at establishing the prediction model of flavor information and fresh/moldy apples. The results showed that only the gas sensors of W1S, W2S, W5S, W1W and W2W in the PEN3 electronic nose exhibited strong signal response to the flavor information, indicating were most closely correlated with the characteristic flavor of apples and thus the data obtained from these characteristic sensors was used for modeling. The results of the four pattern recognition methods showed that BPNN presented the best prediction performance for the training and validation sets for both the Group A and Group B, with prediction accuracies of 96.29% and 90.00% (Group A), 77.70% and 72.00% (Group B), respectively. Therefore, it first demonstrated that PEN3 electronic nose can not only effectively detect and recognize the fresh and moldy apples, but also can distinguish apples inoculated with different molds.

In Holter monitoring, the precise detection of standard heartbeats and Ventricular Premature Contractions (PVCs) is paramount for accurate cardiac rhythm assessment. This study introduces a novel application of the 1D U-Net neural network architecture aimed at enhancing PVC detection in Holter recordings. Training data comprised the Icentia11k, INCART DB, and our custom dataset. The model’s efficacy was subsequently validated against traditional Holter analysis methodologies across multiple databases, including AHA DB, MIT 11 DB, NST, and another custom dataset encompassing challenging real-world examples. The results underscored the 1D U-Net model’s prowess in QRS complex detection, achieving near-perfect balanced accuracy scores across all databases. PVC detection exhibited variability, with balanced accuracy scores ranging from 0.909 to 0.986. Despite some databases, like the AHA DB, showcasing lower sensitivity metrics, their robust balanced accuracy accentuates the model’s equitable performance in discerning both false positives and negatives. In conclusion, while the 1D U-Net architecture is a formidable tool for QRS detection, there’s a clear avenue for further refinement in its PVC detection capability, given the inherent complexities and noise challenges in real-world PVC occurrences.

Among women globally, breast cancer is a major cause of cancer-related death. Accurate and timely diagnosis is essential, and results can be significantly improved. A new era in image analysis has been brought about by the emergence of artificial intelligence (AI), which has made significant progress in the diagnosis and customization of treatment plans for breast cancer possible. This study aimed to develop a comprehensive AI framework for breast cancer detection by integrating convolutional neural networks (CNNs) for image analysis with an artificial neural network (ANN) for clinical data. Using a dataset of ultrasound and pathology images, along with clinical features from 569 patients, we trained CNN models to classify breast tissue as benign or malignant, and the ANN to process clinical data for the same task. The combined approach significantly enhanced the accuracy of breast cancer diagnosis, achieving over 96% accuracy by leveraging both imaging and clinical data. Class Activation Maps (CAM) and heatmaps provided valuable interpretability for CNN predictions, improving trust and transparency in the model’s decision-making process. The results demonstrate that the fusion of CNNs and ANNs enhances diagnostic accuracy and offers a promising tool for early breast cancer detection, while providing crucial insights for clinical validation.

Fusarium head blight (FHB) disease is extensively distributed worldwide. This disease damages grain quality and reduces yield. The detection of this disease in a high throughput way is crucial to planters and breeders. Our study focused on developing a method for processing wheat color images and accurately detecting disease areas using deep learning and image processing techniques. The color images of wheat at the milky stage were collected and processed to construct datasets, which were used to retrain a deep convolutional neural network model using transfer learning. Testing results showed that the model can detect spikes, and the coefficient of determination of the number of spikes between the manual count and the detection was 0.80. The model was assessed, and the mean average precision for the testing dataset was 0.9201. On the basis of the results of spike detection, a new color feature was applied to obtain the gray image of each spike. Then, a modified region growing algorithm was implemented to segment and detect the diseased areas of each spike. Results show that the region growing algorithm performs better than K-means and Otsu’s method in segmenting the FHB disease. Overall, this study demonstrates that deep learning techniques enable the accurate detection of FHB in wheat using color images, and the proposed method can effectively detect spikes and diseased areas, thereby improving the efficiency of FHB detection.

The emerging use of visualization techniques in pathology and microbiol- ogy has been accelerated by machine learning (ML) approaches towards image preprocessing, classification, and feature extraction in an increasingly complex series of datasets. Modern Convolutional Neural Network (CNN) architectures have developed into an umbrella of vast image reinforcement and recognition methods, including a combined classification-localization of single/multi-object featured images. As a subtype neural network, CNN cre- ates a rapid order of complexity by initially detecting borderlines, edges, and colours in images for dataset construction, eventually capable in mapping intricate objects and conformities. This paper investigates the disparities between Tensorflow object detection APIs, exclusively, Single Shot Detector (SSD) Mobilenet V1 and the Faster RCNN Inception V2 model, to sample computational drawbacks in accuracy-precision vs. real time visualization capabilities. The situation of rapid ML medical image analysis is theoretically framed in regions with limited access to pathology and disease prevention departments (e.g. 3rd world and impoverished countries). Dark field mi- croscopy datasets of an initial 62 XML-JPG annotated training files were processed under Malaria and Syphilis classes. Model trainings were halted as soon as loss values were regularized and converged.

In recent years, extensive research has been conducted on the IoT, one of its challenges has been the field security and penetration in these networks. security solutions it Require more planning and awareness to ensure system security and privacy protection.it has also been shown that adjusting the weights of neural networks can help improve the accuracy of detection to what extent. the challenge in the attack detection field is to increase the accuracy of attack detection by machine learning methods, in this paper, a new method is presented to adjust weights of the random neural network for attack detection. Evaluations of the proposed method show that compared to random neural network methods, nearest neighbor, and support vector machine, the accuracy of attack detection improves up to 99.49 percent, and the random neural network method has been able to improve by 99.01 percent, placing the best methods together in these experiments in the form of a multi-learning model showed that the results also had an increase in accuracy up to 99.56 percent, while the training time in the proposed model is less compared to the random neural network method.

Automated spectrum analysis serves as a troubleshooting tool that helps to diagnose faults in wireless networks like difficult signal propagation conditions and coexisting wireless networks. It provides a higher monitoring coverage while requiring less expertise compared to manual spectrum analysis. In this paper, we introduce a data set that can be used to train and evaluate deep learning models, capable of detecting frames from different wireless standards as well as interference between single frames. Since manually labelling a high variety of frames in different environments is too challenging, an artificial data generation pipeline has been developed. The data set consists of 20 000 augmented signal segments, each containing a random number of different Wi-Fi and Bluetooth frames, their spectral image representations and labels that describe the position and type of frame within the spectrogram. The data set contains results of intermediate processing steps that enables the research or teaching community to create new data sets for specific requirements or to provide new interesting examination examples.

The study developed a novel method for evaluating the freshness of citrus fruits by integrating near-infrared spectroscopy with the nonlinear data processing capabilities of a BP neural network. This approach utilizes specific wavelength analysis to distinguish between fresh and non-fresh fruits effectively. Advanced preprocessing techniques are employed to remove spectral anomalies, enhancing the network's ability to accurately identify crucial quality indicators like sugar content. Concurrently, an experiment utilising a MATLAB-based BP neural network optimised the number of hidden layer nodes, identifying 61 as optimal. This configuration achieved impressive metrics, including a mean squared error of 0.0025665 and a root mean squared error of 49.8214, over 1000 training iterations with an 80% learning rate. The model demonstrated a high accuracy rate of 97.6275%, confirming its precision and reliability in assessing citrus freshness. This synergy between advanced neural network processing and spectroscopic techniques marks a significant advancement in agricultural quality assessment, setting new standards for speed and efficiency in data processing.

The object detection task is usually affected by complex backgrounds. In this paper, a new image object detection method is proposed, which can perform multi-feature selection on multi-scale feature maps. By this method, a bidirectional multi-scale feature fusion network is designed to fuse semantic features and shallow features to improve the detection effect of small objects in complex backgrounds. When the shallow features are transferred to the top layer, a bottom-up path is added to reduce the number of network layers experienced by the feature fusion network, reducing the loss of shallow features. In addition, a multi-feature selection module based on the attention mechanism is used to minimize the interference of useless information on subsequent classification and regression, allowing the network to adaptively focus on appropriate information for classification or regression to improve detection accuracy. Because the traditional five-parameter regression method has severe boundary problems when predicting objects with large aspect ratios, the proposed network treats angle prediction as a classification task. The experimental results on the DOTA dataset, the self-made DOTA-GF dataset and the HRSC 2016 dataset show that, compared with several popular object detection algorithms, the proposed method has certain advantages in detection accuracy.

Change Detection (CD) of aerial images refers to identifying and analyzing changes between two or more aerial images of the same location taken at different times. The CD is a highly challenging task due to the need to distinguish relevant changes, such as urban expansion, deforestation, or post-disaster damage assessment, from irrelevant ones, such as light conditions, shadows, and seasonal variations. Many CD papers have recently been published, where most of the papers that proposed a new model contained a comparison between their proposed and state-of-the-art (SOTA) models. While many recent studies propose new deep learning (DL) models for improving CD performance, their comparative analyses are often restricted, lacking comprehensive insights into the proposed models' real-world generalizability, robustness, and performance trade-offs across diverse change characteristics. This paper presents a novel generic framework to systematically benchmark and assess DL-based CD models through three parallel pipelines: 1) cross-testing models on diverse benchmark datasets to evaluate generalization, 2) robustness analysis against different image corruptions, and 3) multi-faceted contour-level analytics evaluating detection sensitivity to change size/complexity. The framework is applied to comparatively evaluate five state-of-the-art DL-based CD models - Changeformer, BIT, Tiny, SNUNet, and CSA-CDGAN. Extensive experiments unveil each model's strengths, limitations and biases, highlighting their relative proficiencies in generalizing across data distributions, resilience to noise corruption, and discriminative capabilities for changes of varying characteristics. The proposed benchmarking framework demonstrates significant potential for guiding the selection of suitable CD models tailored to specific application requirements by comprehensively evaluating their generalizability, robustness, and detection capabilities across diverse real-world scenarios. This systematic evaluation approach can drive future research into developing more robust and versatile CD solutions aligned with practical needs.

Few-shot object detection (FSOD) aims to address the challenge of requiring a substantial amount of annotations for training in conventional object detection, which is very labor-intensive. However, existing few-shot methods achieve high precision with the sacrifice of time-consuming for exhaustive fine-tuning, or take poor performance in novel-class adaptation. We presume the major reason is that the valuable correlation feature among different categories is insufficiently exploited, hindering the generalization of knowledge from base to novel categories for object detection. In this paper, we propose Few-Shot object detection via Correlation-RPN and Transformer Encoder-Decoder (CRTED), a novel training network to learn object-relevant features of inter-class correlation and intra-class compactness while suppressing object-agnostic features in the background with limited annotated samples. And we also introduce a 4-way tuple-contrast training strategy to positively activate the training progress of our object detector. Experiments over two few-shot benchmarks (Pascal VOC, MS-COCO) demonstrate that, our proposed CRTED without further fine-tuning can achieve comparable performance with current state-of-the-art fine-tuned works. The codes and pre-trained models will be released.

In the last few decades, glaucoma became the second biggest leading cause of irreversible vision loss. Because of its asymptotic growth, it is not properly diagnosed until the relatively late stage. To stop the severe damage by glaucoma it is needed to detect glaucoma in its early stages. Surprisingly diabetes also be the greatest cause of glaucoma. In the modern era, artificial intelligence makes great progress in the medical image processing field. Image analysis based on machine learning gives a huge success in diagnosis glaucoma without any misdiagnosis. The aim of this proposed paper is to create an automated process that can detect glaucoma and diabetic retinopathy. Here various Machine Learning models are used and results of these methods are presented.

The continuous and precise mapping of glacier calving fronts is essential for monitoring and understanding rapid glacier changes in Antarctica and Greenland, which have the potential for significant sea level rise within the current century. This effort has been mostly restricted to the slow and painstaking manual digitalization of the calving front positions in thousands of satellite imagery products. Here, we have developed a machine learning toolkit to robustly and automatically detect glacier calving front margins in satellite imagery. The toolkit is based on semantic image segmentation using Convolutional Neural Networks (CNN) with a modified U-Net architecture to isolate the calving fronts from satellite images after having been trained with a dataset of images and their corresponding manually-determined calving fronts. As a case study we train our neural network on a varied set Landsat images with lowered resolutions from Jakobshavn, Sverdrup, and Kangerlussuaq glaciers, Greenland and test the results on novel images from Helheim glacier, Greenland to evaluate the performance of the approach. The neural network is able to identify the calving front in new images with a mean deviation of 96.3 m from the true fronts, equivalent to 1.97 pixels on average, while the corresponding error for manually-determined fronts on the same resolution images is 92.5 m. We find that the trained neural network significantly outperforms common edge detection techniques, and can be used to continuously map out calving-ice fronts with a variety of data products.

When applying deep learning methods to detect micro defects on low-contrast LCD surfaces, there are challenges related to the imbalance in samples dataset, as well as the complexity and laboriousness of annotating and acquiring target image masks. In order to solve these problems, a method based on sample and mask auto-generation for deep generative network models is proposed. We first generate an augmented dataset of negative samples using a generative adversarial network(GAN), and then highlight the defect regions in these samples using the training method constructed by the GAN to generate masks for the defect images automatically. Experimental results shows the effectiveness of our proposed method, as it allows for the simultaneous generation of LCD image samples and their corresponding image masks. Through a comparative experiment on the deep learning method Mask R-CNN, we demonstrate that the automatically obtained image masks have high detection accuracy.

Remote sensing technology is crucial for accurate rooftop detection, benefiting urban planning, disaster management, and solar resource estimation. This study employs Efficient Interactive Segmentation (EISEG) to enhance the efficiency of remote sensing image labeling, with a particular focus on rooftop detection. It is necessary to use modern technology because traditional manual labelling methods are labor-intensive and complicated. The study introduces a novel framework on deep learning semantic segmentation models, facilitating an efficient approach to rooftop identification using high-resolution UAV remote sensing datasets. Large dataset of labeled UAV rooftop building images, in which each superpixel region is assigned a binary label indicating rooftop presence. Advanced methods including Asymmetric Neural Network (ANN), Dual At-tention Network (DANet), PP-LiteSeg, and Deeplab3 are implemented for automatic rooftop detection due to their higher performance and advanced architectures. These models are executed on the Baidu deep learning platform PaddlePaddle, generating initial rooftop segmentation maps crucial for estimating photovoltaic resources. The ANN model emerges with the highest accuracy at 96%, followed by DANet at 95.09%, PP-LiteSeg at 94.54%, and Deeplab3 at 81.61%. The outcomes presenting efficient models for automated rooftop identification, and demonstrating the continuous need for improving deep learning techniques in smart and sustainable cities.

Plant diseases not only cause economic losses, but they also pose a health risk. In this regard, aflatoxins are linked to the development of some type of liver cancer, especially the hepatocellular carcinoma. Aflatoxins are usually produced by the fungi Aspergillus flavus and Parsiticus in figs, and their identification is usually carried out using invasive and complex methods or by visual inspection at an advanced stage. Given that Spain is one of the main producers of figs and Extremadura is the leading region in the country, it is necessary to explore alternative ways of detecting the presence of aflatoxins in figs and preventing them from entering the food chain. The aim of this research is to address the early detection of Aspergillus flavus fungus using non-invasive techniques with the aid of hyperspectral imaging and the application of artificial intelligence techniques, in particular deep learning. The images were taken after inoculation of the microtoxin using 3 different concentrations, related to three different classes and healthy figs (healthy controls). The analysis of the hyperspectral images was performed at the pixel level. Firstly, a full connected neural network was used to analyse the spectral signature associated with each pixel; second, the wavelet transform was applied to each spectral signature. The resulting images are fed to a convolutional neural network. The hyperparameters of the proposed models were adjusted based on the parameter tuning process also performed. The results are promising, with 83% accuracy, 82.75% recall and 83.25% F1-measure for the single neural network, and 77.25% accuracy, recall and F1 for the convolution neural network.

In recent years, with the development of the Internet of Things and distributed computing, the "server-edge device" architecture has been widely deployed. This study focuses on leveraging autoencoder technology to address the binary classification problem in network intrusion detection, aiming to develop a lightweight model suitable for edge devices. Traditional intrusion detection models face two main challenges when directly ported to edge devices: inadequate computational resources to support large-scale models and the need to improve the accuracy of simpler models. To tackle these issues, this research utilizes Extreme Learning Machine for its efficient training speed and compact model size to implement autoencoders. Two improvements over the latest related work are proposed: First, to improve data purity and ultimately enhance detection performance, this study partitions the data into multiple regions based on the prediction results of these autoencoders. Second, leveraging autoencoder characteristics to investigate further the data within each region. We used the public dataset NSL-KDD to test the behavior of the proposed mechanism. The experimental results show that when dealing with multi-class attacks, the model's performance was significantly improved, the accuracy and the F1-score are improved by 3.5% and 2.9%, respectively maintaining its lightweight nature.

Maritime search and rescue is a crucial component of the national emergency response system, which currently mainly relies on Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) to detect the objects. Most traditional object detection methods focus on boosting the detection accuracy while neglecting the detection speed of the heavy model. However, it is also essential to improve the detection speed which can provide timely maritime search and rescue. To address the issues, we propose a lightweight object detector named Shuffle-GhostNet-based detector (SG-Det). First, we construct a lightweight backbone, named Shuffle-GhostNet, which enhances the information flow between channel groups by redesigning the correlation group convolution and introducing the channel shuffle operation. Second, we propose an improved feature pyramid model, namely BiFPN-tiny, which has a lighter structure while being capable of reinforcing small object features. Furthermore, we incorporate the atrous spatial pyramid pooling module (ASPP) to the network, which employs atrous convolution with different sampling rates to obtain multi-scale information. Finally, we generate three sets of bounding boxes at different scales – large, medium, and small – to detect objects of different sizes. Compared with other lightweight detectors, SG-Det achieves better tradeoffs across performance metrics, and enables real-time detection with an accuracy rate of over 90% for maritime objects, which shows that it can be better meet the actual requirements of maritime search and rescue.

Detecting cracks in structural health monitoring is crucial for ensuring infrastructure safety and longevity. Using drones to obtain crack images and automate processing can improve the efficiency of crack detection. To address the challenges posed by the limited computing resources of edge devices in practical applications, we propose CrackScopeNet, a lightweight segmentation network model that simultaneously considers local and global crack features, suitable for deployment on drone platforms with limited computational power and memory. CrackScopeNet features a multi-scale branch to improve sensitivity to cracks of varying sizes without substantial computational overhead and a stripe-wise context attention mechanism to enhance the capture of long-range contextual information, mitigating the interference from complex backgrounds. Experimental results on CrackSeg9k dataset demonstrate that CrackScopeNet leads to a significant improvement in prediction performance, with the highest mean intersection over union (mIoU) scores reaching 82.12%, while maintaining a lightweight architecture with only 1.05M parameters and 1.58G floating point operations (FLOPs). Besides, CrackScopeNet excels in inference speed on edge devices without GPU because of its low FLOPs. CrackScopeNet contributes to the development of efficient and effective crack segmentation networks, suitable for practical structural health monitoring applications using drone platforms.

Photogrammetry involves aerial photography of the earth’s surface and subsequently processing the images to provide a more accurate depiction of the area (Orthophotography). It’s used by the Spanish Instituto Geográfico Nacional to update road cartography but requires a significant amount of manual labor due to the need to perform visual inspection of all tiled images. Deep Learning techniques (artificial neural networks with more than one hidden layer) can perform road detection but it is still unclear how to find the optimal network architecture. Our system applies grammar guided genetic programming to the search of deep neural network architectures. In this kind of evolutive algorithm all the population individuals (here candidate network architectures) are constrained to rules specified by a grammar that defines valid and useful structural patterns to guide the search process. Grammar used includes well-known complex structures (e.g. Inception-like modules) combined with a custom designed mutation operator (dynamically links the mutation probability to structural diversity). Pilot results show that the system is able to design models for road detection that obtain test accuracies similar to that reached by state of the art models when evaluated over a dataset from the Spanish National Aerial Orthophotography Plan.

Stripe rust ​​(caused by Puccinia striiformis f. sp. tritici) is one of the most devastating diseases of wheat and causes large-scale epidemics and severe yield loss. Applying fungicides during early epidemic development is crucial to controlling the disease but is often challenged by resource-limited human visual scouting. Deep learning has the potential to process images and videos captured from affordable devices to empower high-throughput phenotyping for early detection of stripe rust for timely application of fungicides and improve control efficiency. Here, we developed RustNet, a neural network-based image classifier, for efficiently monitoring fields for stripe rust. RustNet was built on a ResNet-18 architecture pre-trained with ImageNet Large-Scale Visual Recognition Challenge (ILSVRC) dataset using transfer learning. RGB images and videos of multiple wheat fields with different wheat types (winter and spring wheat), conditions (irrigated and non-irrigated), and locations were acquired using smartphones or unmanned aerial vehicles near the canopy. A semi-automated image labeling approach was conducted to improve labeling efficiency by combining automated machine labeling and human correction. Cross-validations across multiple categories (sensor platforms, wheat types, and locations) achieved Area Under Curve from 0.72 to 0.87. Independent validation on a published dataset from Germany achieved accuracies ranging from 0.79 to 0.86. The visualization of the last convolutional layer of RustNet demonstrated the identification of pixels with stripe rust. RustNet is freely available at https://zzlab.net/RustNet.

Arrhythmia is a cardiac condition characterized by an irregular heart rhythm that hinders the proper circulation of blood, posing a severe risk to individuals’ lives. Globally, arrhythmias are recognized as a significant health concern, accounting for nearly 12 percent of all deaths. As a result, there has been a growing focus on utilizing artificial intelligence for the detection and classification of abnormal heartbeats. In recent years, self-operated heartbeat detection research has gained popularity due to its cost-effectiveness and potential for expediting therapy for individuals at risk of arrhythmias. However, building an efficient automatic heartbeat monitoring approach for arrhythmia identification and classification comes with several significant challenges. These challenges include addressing issues related to data quality, determining the range for heart rate segmentation, managing data imbalance difficulties, handling intra- and inter-patient variations, distinguishing supraventricular irregular heartbeats from regular heartbeats, and ensuring model interpretability. In this study, we propose the Reseek-Arrhythmia model, which leverages deep learning techniques to automatically detect and classify heart arrhythmia diseases. The model combines different convolutional blocks and identity blocks, along with essential components such as convolution layers, batch normalization layers, and activation layers. To train and evaluate the model, we utilized the MIT-BIH and PTB datasets. Remarkably, the proposed model achieves outstanding performance with an accuracy of 99.35% and 93.50% and an acceptable loss of 0.688 and 0.2564, respectively.

This study demonstrates the efficacy of structured pruning and architectural fine-tuning on the YOLOv7-tiny model for eye state detection, emphasizing optimization for real-time applications. Structured pruning significantly reduced the model's complexity and storage size while maintaining high detection accuracy, as evidenced by stable precision, recall, and mAP@.5 metrics across iterations. Further fine-tuning adjusted the model's width and depth, optimizing efficiency and processing speed without compromising performance. These optimizations yielded YOLOv7-tiny variants that are both computationally efficient and accurate, suitable for resource-constrained environments. The findings highlight the critical role of model optimization in deploying effective neural networks for specific detection tasks in real-time scenarios.

This article presents a study on brain tumor detection using the VGG-16 model, a convolutional neural network known for its performance in computer vision tasks. The aim of the study is to classify magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) images and accurately identify the presence of brain tumors. The dataset used consists of brain tumor MRI images, categorized into two classes: "NO" (no tumor) and "YES" (tumor). The methodology involves setting up the environment, importing and preprocessing the data, building the VGG-16 model, and evaluating its performance using metrics such as accuracy, precision, and recall. The results demonstrate an accuracy of approximately 88% on the validation set and 80% on the test set, indicating the potential of the VGG-16 model in supporting healthcare professionals in diagnosing brain tumors. The study contributes to the field of medical image analysis and offers insights into the application of deep learning for brain tumor detection.

The COVID-19 is a highly contagious viral infection which played havoc on everyone's life in many different ways. According to the world health organization and scientists, more testing potentially helps governments and disease control organizations in containing the spread of the virus. The use of chest radiographs is one of the early screening tests to determine the onset of disease, as the infection affects the lungs severely. This study will investigate and automate the process of testing by using state-of-the-art CNN classifiers to detect the COVID19 infection. However, the viral could of many different types; therefore, we only regard for COVID19 while the other viral infection types are treated as non-COVID19 in the radiographs of various viral infections. The classification task is challenging due to the limited number of scans available for COVID19 and the minute variations in the viral infections. We aim to employ current state-of-the-art CNN architectures, compare their results, and determine whether deep learning algorithms can handle the crisis appropriately. In recent years, Parkinson's Disease (PD) as a progressive syndrome of the nervous system has become highly prevalent worldwide. In this study, a novel hybrid technique established by integrating a Multi-layer Perceptron Neural Network (MLP) with the Biogeography-based Optimization (BBO) to classify PD based on a series of biomedical voice measurements. BBO is employed to determine the optimal MLP parameters and boost prediction accuracy. The inputs comprised of 22 biomedical voice measurements. The proposed approach detects two PD statuses: 0– disease status and 1– reasonable control status. The performance of proposed methods compared with PSO, GA, ACO and ES method. The outcomes affirm that the MLP-BBO model exhibits higher precision and suitability for PD detection. The proposed diagnosis system as a type of speech algorithm detects early Parkinson’s symptoms, and consequently, it served as a promising new robust tool with excellent PD diagnosis performance.

In recent years, computer-aided analysis techniques have emerged as valuable tools in assisting dermatologists by providing objective and efficient analysis of skin cancer images. This paper utilizes the combination of the Contourlet Transform (CT) and Local Binary Pattern (LBP) techniques for accurately recognizing borders, contrast changes, and shapes of skin cancer images. These results often contain many features, leading to high computational costs and potential over-fitting issues. Hence, we applied Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO) to select the most informative and discriminating features, reducing the dimensionality while retaining important information for accurate classification. After reducing the feature set with PSO, we applied these sets to Machine learning classification algorithms: Support Vector Machine (SVM), Random Forest (RF), and Neural Networks (NN). The results show that SVM has the lowest time complexity of 0.0458 seconds, followed by the Neural Network at 0.08730 seconds, and the Random Forest model has the highest time complexity of 0.1622 seconds. The SVM and Neural Network models are faster to train than the Random Forest model, making them more suitable for real-time or latency-sensitive applications. We also compared our proposed model with the state-of-the-art models and obtained the accuracy of 86.9%, which is the highest among the models.

With the continuous progress of remote sensing image object detection tasks in recent years, researchers in this field have gradually shifted the focus of their research from horizontal object detection to the study of object detection in arbitrary directions. It is worth noting that some properties are different from the horizontal object detection during oriented object detection that researchers have yet to notice much. This article presents the design of a straightforward and efficient arbitrary-oriented detection system, leveraging the inherent properties of the orientation task, including the rotation angle and box aspect ratio. In the detection of low aspect ratio objects, the angle is of little importance to the orientation bounding box, and it is even difficult to define the angle information in extreme categories. Conversely, in the detection of objects with high aspect ratios, the angle information plays a crucial role and can have a decisive impact on the quality of the detection results. By exploiting the aspect ratio of different targets, this letter proposes a ratio-balanced angle loss that allows the model to make a better trade-off between low-aspect ratio objects and high-aspect ratio objects. The rotation angle of each oriented object, which we naturally embed into a two-dimensional Euclidean space for regression, thus avoiding an overly redundant design and preserving the topological properties of the circular space. The performance of the UCAS-AOD, HRSC2016, and DLR-3K datasets show that the proposed model in this paper achieves a leading level in terms of both accuracy and speed. In engineering practice, information data in the detection process can not be avoided by the working environment and equipment performance and other factors, resulting in unpredictable measurement errors, greatly affecting the reliability of the manufacturing system and decision-making system decision-making scientific. This paper analyzes the application characteristics of untraceable Kalman filter (UKF) and BP neural network algorithm (BPNN) in information data fusion, and tries to realize the complementary advantages of the two through the combination of UKF and BPNN (UKF+BPNN). The information data fusion algorithm based on UKF-BPNN is established to effectively fuse the information data measurement errors brought by multiple influencing factors in order to improve the detection accuracy of the information data, and the feasibility and validity of the method are verified through the application of the algorithm in the measurement of key information data of rolling bearings.

Drowsiness detection is an important task in road safety and other areas that require sustained attention. In this article, an approach to detect drowsiness in drivers is presented, focusing on the eye region, since eye fatigue is one of the first symptoms of drowsiness. The method used for the extraction of the eye region is Mediapipe, chosen for its high accuracy and robustness. Three neural networks were analyzed based on: InceptionV3, VGG16 and ResNet50V2 that implement deep learning. The database used is NITYMED, which contains videos of drivers with different levels of drowsiness. The three networks were evaluated in terms of accuracy, precision and recall in detecting drowsiness in the eye region. The results of the study show that all three convolutional neural networks have high accuracy in detecting drowsiness in the eye region. In particular, the Resnet50V2 network achieved the highest accuracy, with a rate of 99.71% on average. For better visualization of the data, the Grad-CAM technique is used, with which we get a better understanding of the performance of the algorithms in the classification process.

This study presents the algorithm ACTION, defined as Automatic Center detection of Tropical cyclone (TC) using Image processing based on the Operational radar Network. Based on the high visibility of weather radar imagery, the TC’s motion vector is calculated from the continuous image change using optical flow, producing its rotation center as the TC’s center. The algorithm’s performance was verified for typhoons (TCs in the Northwestern Pacific) affecting the Korean Peninsula from 2018–2021 and showed a high detection rate of 80.8% within an error distance of 40 km compared to the best track of the Korea Meteorological Administration (KMA). The detection rate was 100% for typhoons with temporally consistent morphological characteristics. ACTION automatically generates TC center information upon the TC’s initial entry inside the observation radius even in the absence of uniform radar data. ACTION easily calculates using Open Source Computer Vision, performs in real time, and can be directly applied to rapidly generated weather radar images; hence, it is currently being utilized by the KMA. The high-temporal-resolution TC center information calculated through ACTION is expected to improve the efficiency of TC forecasting.

The agriculture industry is critical to the global economy, with product quality having a direct impact on marketability and waste management. Apples, one of the most extensively produced fruits, are affected by a variety of diseases that can reduce productivity and quality. Accurate diagnosis of diseases is critical, but traditional manual approaches are time-consuming, error-prone, and ineffective. Inadequate labeled data and a wide range of disease symptoms make it necessary to design an automated, robust, and accurate system. This article describes a hybrid model for Apple Fruit Disease Detection (HMAFDD) that combines the strengths of three pre-trained convolutional neural network (CNN) models: ResNet50, DenseNet121, and EfficientNetB0. It accomplish this by using multi-architecture feature extraction. The hybrid system, which combines both models, is able to recognize a wide range of features, from simple textures to complex patterns unique to a certain diseases. Grad-CAM, or gradient-weighted class activation mapping, creates heatmaps that highlight significant regions for prediction, which enhances the interpretability of the model.To increase robustness and accuracy, techniques such as spectral-shifted adversarial perturbation for data augmentation and spectrally-weighted global average pooling for feature aggregation are used. This technique provides 99.75% accuracy with minimal processing needs, making it acceptable for real-time applications in agricultural situations. This considerably improves apple disease management.

In the age of social media, images come from unreliable sources that may change their content to fit a narrative. Automated detection of forged images is a complex task, especially considering recent technological advances in image manipulation software. However, in the existing literature, it is possible to identify two general approaches adopted by detection methods, active and passive. Active techniques preemptively act on an image by inserting structures before any manipulation is made that can verify its authenticity. In contrast, passive methods analyze the content of an image in search of traces of manipulation. In this way, this research proposes a novel approach to image manipulation detection, combining two passive methods through neural networks, creating a generalist approach capable of detecting with greater accuracy than the methods that compose it. Furthermore, this work used a combination of four datasets available in the literature for training and evaluation. After training, the merged approach obtained an accuracy of 89.59% in the set of validation images, significantly higher than the model trained with only unaltered images, which obtained 78.64%, and the two other models trained using images with a feature selection method applied to enhance inconsistencies that obtained 68.02% for Error-Level Analysis images and 50.70% for the method using Discrete Wavelet Transform. In addition to the performance improvement, the proposed approach’s accuracy variation was lower than the other models.

The IDS serves as a security system that maintains constant surveillance over network traffic and host systems in order to identify any security breaches or potentially concerning activities. Recently. the rise in cyber-attacks has driven the necessity for the development of automated and intelligent network intrusion detection systems. These systems are designed to learn the typical patterns of network traffic, allowing them to identify any deviations from normal behaviour, which can be classified as anomalous or malicious. Machine learning methods are widely used to exhibit a satisfactory effectiveness in detecting malicious payloads in the network traffic. While the volume of the data generated from IDS is increasing exponentially results in the emergence of substantial security risks, it highlighted the imperative to strengthen network security. The performance of traditional machine learning methods depends on the dataset and the data balance distribution in it. while most of IDS datasets suffer from unbalancing, this limits the performance of the machine learning method used in the system and results in missed detections and false alarms in the conventional IDSs. To address this issue, this paper presents a new model-based Generative Adversarial Network (GAN) called TDCGAN to enhance the detection rate of less of minor class in the dataset while maintaining efficiency. The proposed model consists of one generator and three discriminators with an election layer at the end of architecture. The UGR’16 data set is used for evaluation purposes. In order to demonstrate the efficacy of our proposed model, various machine learning algorithms have been utilized for comparison. The experimental findings have determined that TDCGAN presents an efficient resolution for addressing imbalanced intrusion detection and surpasses the performance of other oversampling machine learning methods.

The recent growth of high-resolution spatial data, especially in developing urban environments, is enabling new approaches to civic activism, urban planning and the provision of services necessary for sustainable development. A special area of great potential and urgent need deals with urban expansion through informal settlements (slums). These neighborhoods are too often characterized by a lack of connections, both physical and socioeconomic, with detrimental effects to residents and their cities. Here, we show how a scalable computational approach based on the topological properties of digital maps can identify local infrastructural deficits and propose context-appropriate minimal solutions. We analyze 1 terabyte of OpenStreetMap (OSM) crowdsourced data to create worldwide indices of street block accessibility and local cadastral maps and propose infrastructure extensions with a focus on 120 Low and Middle Income Countries (LMIC) in the Global South. We illustrate how the lack of physical accessibility can be identified in detail, how the complexity and costs of solutions can be assessed and how detailed spatial proposals are generated. We discuss how these diagnostics and solutions provide a multiscalar set of new capabilities – from individual neighborhoods to global regions – that can coordinate local community knowledge with political agency, technical capability, and further research.

This article presents an automated vision-based algorithm for the die-scale inspection of wafer images captured using scanning acoustic tomography (SAT). This algorithm can find defective and abnormal die-scale patterns, and produce a wafer map to visualize the distribution of defects and anomalies on the wafer. The main procedures include standard template extraction, die detection through template matching, pattern candidate prediction through clustering, and pattern classification through deep learning. To conduct the template matching, we first introduce a two-step method to obtain a standard template from the original SAT image. Subsequently, a majority of the die patterns are detected through template matching. Thereafter, the columns and rows arranged from the detected dies are predicted using a clustering method; thus, an initial wafer map is produced. This map is composed of detected die patterns and predicted pattern candidates. In the final phase of the proposed algorithm, we implement a deep learning-based model to determine defective and abnormal patterns in the wafer map. The experimental results verified the effectiveness and efficiency of our proposed algorithm. In conclusion, the proposed method performs well in identifying defective and abnormal die patterns, and produces a wafer map that presents important information for solving wafer fabrication issues.

During the 1950s, the Gros Michel species of bananas were nearly wiped out by the incurable Fusarium Wilt, also known as Panama Disease. Originating in Southeast Asia, Fusarium Wilt is a banana pandemic that has been threatening the multi-billion-dollar banana industry worldwide. The disease is caused by a fungus that spreads rapidly throughout the soil and into the roots of banana plants. Currently, the only way to stop the spread of this disease is for farmers to manually inspect and remove infected plants as quickly as possible, whereas it is a time-consuming process. The main purpose of this study is to build a deep Convolutional Neural Network (CNN) using a transfer learning approach to rapidly identify fusarium wilt infections on banana crop leaves. We chose to use the ResNet50 architecture as the base CNN model for our transfer learning approach owing to its remarkable performance in image classification, which was demonstrated through its victory in the ImageNet competition. After its initial training and fine-tuning on a data set consisting of 300 healthy and diseased images, the CNN model achieved near-perfect accuracy of 0.99 and was fine-tuned to adapt the ResNet base model. ResNet50’s distinctive residual block structure could be the reason behind these results. To evaluate this CNN model, 500 test images, consisting of 250 diseased and healthy banana leaf images, were classified by the model. The deep CNN model was able to achieve an accuracy of 0.98 and an F-1 score of 0.98 by correctly identifying the class of 492 of the 500 images. These results show that this DCNN model outperforms existing models such as Sangeetha et al., 2023’s deep CNN model by at least 0.07 in accuracy and is a viable option for identifying Fusarium Wilt in banana crops.

Leakages in the water distribution networks (WDNs) are real problems for utilities and other governmental agencies. Timely leak detection and location identification has been a challenge. In this paper, an integrated approach to geospatial and infrared image processing method was used for robust leak detection. The method combines drops in flow, pressure, and chlorine residuals to determine potential water leakage locations in the WDN using Geographic Information System (GIS) techniques. GIS layers were created from the hourly values of these three parameters for the city of Sharjah provided by Sharjah Electricity, Water and Gas Authority (SEWA). These layers are then analyzed for locations with dropped values of each of the parameters and are overlaid with each other. In the case where there were no overlaying locations between flow and pressure, further water quality analysis was avoided, assuming no potential leak. In the case where there are locations with drops in flow and pressure layers, these overlaying locations are then examined for drops in chlorine values. If overlaying locations are found, then these regions are considered potential leak locations. Once potential leak locations are identified, a specialized remote sensing technique can be used for precise leak location. This study also demonstrated the suitability of using an infrared camera for leak detection in a laboratory-based setup. This paper concludes that the following methodology can help water utility companies in the timely detection of leaks, saving money, time, and effort.

Cancer is a condition in which the body's cells proliferate unchecked. Skin cancer is one of the deadliest diseases that impacts the skin on many levels. There are several different types of the disease, including melanoma, basal cell carcinoma (BCC), squamous cell carcinoma (SCC), and melanocytic nevus. Due to its increased prevalence, skin cancer, in particular melanoma, is be-coming a serious health problem. Early identification of skin lesions is crucial for successful treatment. Due to their resemblance, many skin lesions are misclassified, which is a severe issue. Researchers seek computer-aided diagnostic tools for early malignant tumor detection. First, a new model based on the combination of "you only look once" (YOLOv5) and "ResNet50" is proposed for melanoma detection with its degree using humans against a machine with 10,000 training images (HAM10000). Second, feature maps integrate gradient change, which allows rapid inference, boosts precision, and reduces the number of hyperparameters in the model, making it smaller. Finally, to get the desired outcomes, the current YOLOv5 model is changed by adding new classes for dermatoscopic images of typical lesions with pigmented skin. The pro-posed approach improves melanoma detection with a real-time speed of 0.4 ms non-maximum suppression (NMS) per image. The performance metrics average is 99.0%, 98.6%, 98.8%, 99.5, 98.3%, and 98.7% for precision, recall, dice similarity coefficient (DSC), accuracy, mean average precision (MAP) from 0.0 to 0.5, and MAP from 0.5 to 0.95, respectively. Compared to cur-rent melanoma detection approaches, the provided approach is more efficient using deep fea-tures.

Accurate and efficient traffic incident detection methods can effectively alleviate traffic congestion caused by traffic incidents, prevent secondary accidents and improve the safety of urban road traffic.Aiming at the problems that the traditional machine learning event detection method cannot fully extract the parameter characteristics of traffic flow and is not suitable formulti-dimensional and non-linear massive data, we propose a new traffic event detection method(CNN-XGBoost).This method combines the respective advantages of Convolution Neural Network(CNN) and Extreme Gradation Boosting (XGBoost). Firstly, we preprocessed the original freeway traffic incident detection data set by constructing initial variable set, data normalization, data balance processing and dimension reorganization. Secondly,we use CNN network to automatically extract the deep features of event detection data, and use XGBoost as a classifier to classify the extracted features for expressway traffic event detection.Finally, we use the data set of Hangzhou expressway microwave detector in China to carry out simulation experiments on CNN-XGBoost. The experimental results show that compared with XGBoost, CNN, Support Vector Machine (SVM) and Gradient Boosting Decision Tree (GBDT) and other methods, CNN-XGBoost method can effectively improve the accuracy of expressway traffic event detection and has better generalization ability.

In today’s expanding cities, pipeline networks are becoming an essential part of the industrial infrastructure. Monitoring these pipelines autonomously is becoming increasingly important. Inspecting pipelines for cracks is one specific task that poses a huge burden on humans. Undetected cracks may pose multi-dimensional risks. In this paper, we introduce the Pipeline Leak Identification Emergency Robot Swarm (PLIERS) system; an industrial system that deploys Internet of Things (IoT), robotics, and Neural Network technologies to detect cracks in emptied water and sewage pipelines. In PLIERS, a swarm of robots inspect emptied pipelines from the inside to detect cracks, collect images of them, and register their locations. When the images are taken, they are fed into a cloud-based module for analysis by a convolutional neural network (CNN). CNN is used to detect cracks and identify their severity. Through extensive training and testing, the CNN model performance showed promising scores for accuracy (between 80% and 90%), recall (at least 95%), precision (at least 95%), and F1 (at least 96%). Additionally, through the careful design of a prototype for a water/sewage pipeline structure with several types of cracks, the robots used managed to exchange information among themselves and convey crack images to the cloud-based server for further analysis. PLIERS is a system that deploys trendy technologies to detect and recognize cracks in pipeline grids. It adds to the efforts of improving instrumentation and measurement approaches by using robots, sensory, IoT principles, and the efficient analysis of CNN’s.

ABSTRACT Purpose: Tongue image analysis for disease diagnosis is an ancient traditional non-invasive diagnosis technique widely used by traditional medicine practitioners. Deep Learning based multi-label disease detection models offer tremendous potential to clinical decision support systems, by facilitating preliminary diagnosis. Methods: In this work, we propose a multi-label disease detection pipeline, where in observation and analysis of tongue images captured and received via smartphones assist in predicting the health status of an individual. All images are voluntarily given by subjects consulting collaborating physicians. Images thus acquired are first and foremost classified either into a diseased or a normal category by a 5-fold cross-validation algorithm using a convolution neural network (MobileNetV2) model for binary classification. Once the diseased label is predicted, the image is used to diagnose multiple diseases using the prediction algorithm based on DenseNet121. Results: Average accuracy of 93 % was achieved in classifying diseased from normal healthy tongue by detection model with MobileNetV2 architecture. Multilabel disease classification produced more than 90% accurate results for the seven class labels considered. Conclusion: AI based image analysis shows promising results and an extensive dataset could provide further improvements to this approach. Rather than employing high-cost sophisticated image capturing setup, experimenting with smartphone images opens opportunity to provide preliminary health status to individuals on smartphone prior to further line of treatment and diagnosis.

This work presents an approach for detecting mathematical formulas in scanned document images. The proposed approach is end-to-end trainable. Since many OCR engines cannot reliably work with the formulas, it is essential to isolate them to obtain the clean text for information extraction from the document. Our proposed pipeline comprises a hybrid task cascade network with deformable convolutions and a Resnext101 backbone. Both of these modifications help in better detection. We evaluate the proposed approaches on the ICDAR-2017 POD and Marmot datasets and achieve an overall accuracy of 96% for the ICDAR-2017 POD dataset. We achieve an overall reduction of error of 13%. Furthermore, the results on Marmot datasets are improved for the isolated and embedded formulas. We achieved an accuracy of 98.78% for the isolated formula and 90.21% overall accuracy for embedded formulas. Consequently, it results in an error reduction rate of 43% for isolated and 17.9% for embedded formulas.

Internet users have significantly increased as a result of the spread of Internet of Things (IoT) technologies and 5G networks. But these developments also make people more susceptible to cybercrime. Intrusion detection systems (IDSs), which protect against cyber threats and facilitate early response, have emerged as crucial security measures to handle this expanding risk. This study intends to present a comprehensive review of IDS, how it interacts with machine learning (ML), and develop a suitable approach for attack detection in 5G and IoT environments. To accomplish this, we leverage the AWID dataset, which is the first wireless traffic dataset specifically designed for security purposes, focusing on the IEEE 802.11 standard and developed to the AWID3 dataset. In this research, we suggest a powerful machine-learning framework for wireless system intrusion detection. We perform evaluations in three stages, covering scenarios for multiple nominal classes, multiple numeric classes, and binary classes. In order to improve the performance of the intrusion detection model, we also use feature selection approaches. Additionally, we offer a model that incorporates the outcomes of three feature selection techniques, highlighting how crucial it is to comprehend the features present in wireless datasets. Our experiments demonstrate how a machine learning-based approach can detect attacks with a high level of accuracy. In particular, the boosted decision tree performs best when overlapping feature selection procedures, whereas the Logistic Regression approach obtains the maximum accuracy of 99% in the first two phases. By providing a comprehensive framework for identifying attacks in 5G and IoT contexts using machine learning approaches, this research makes a contribution to the field of intrusion detection. The results underline how important it is to comprehend wireless dataset characteristics and highlight the possibility of ML-based methods for attaining highly accurate intrusion detection.
