Abstract
An innovative and physically-inspired, non-gradient algorithm was created in the current paper as a solution to global optimization issues. Because it is imitated by the damped harmonic oscillation of a physical pendulum, the new algorithm is termed Damped Oscillation Search (DOS) algorithm. It comprises a primary solution search (PSS) which updates the pivot point with the moment of inertia and a secondary solution search (SSS) which improves the pivot point with the amplitude of the damped oscillation; the optimal solution was allocated into two functions. Evaluated against previous standards from two batches of continuous test problems, sixteen standardized benchmark mathematics functions, and six benchmark constraint engineering problems, as described in a number previously reported tests and studies published in a variety of sources. Testing and analysis was then carried out for the DOS algorithm. The recommended technique is favorably competitive with other recognized efficiency meta-heuristics, as supported by the results of the current study. Additionally, the current paper discussed the features employed in the DOS algorithm, which were analyzed regarding prospective consequences for actual constrained engineering optimization issues.
