Background: The aim of this study was to investigate the degree of penetration, permanence of occlusion and vascular changes induced by a newly modified mixture of n-butyl cyanoacrylate (Glubran 2®), ethanol, and Lipidol® (GEL) in endovascular treatment of experimental aneurysms induced in swine. Methods: Bilateral pouch aneurysms were created in the wall of the internal carotid artery in eighteen pigs. The sixteen aneurysms were treated with a new mixture of GEL with different component proportions. Angiograms were obtained at the time of treatment and at 1, 4, and 16 weeks after treatment. According to the scheduled experimental design, subjects were sacrificed at the time of treatment and 7, 30, and 90 days after embolization of experimentally induced aneurysms. The internal carotid artery and aneurysms were resected en bloc and fixed for histopathologic study. Results: All the experimentally induced aneurysms were completely occluded by the used mixture and remained occluded for the study period without recanalization. Histopathologic studies revealed the presence of an acute inflammatory reaction of aneurysm wall even after 7 days post embolization with focal angionecrosis, followed by a chronic inflammation which induced a thickening of the wall. Conclusions: The mixture succeeded to induce a complete occlusion which remained stable until 90 days post-embolization. After seven days from embolization, the mixture polymerization was associated with an acute inflammatory response followed by a connective tissue proliferation which induced a thickening of aneurysm walls.

As of today, there is not any direct report yet of the degree to which missing residues exist for experimentally determined membrane protein (MP) structures, which constitute more than half of current drug targets. With a chain- and position-specific visualisation and a statistical analysis of all MP structures inside PDB (as of September 25, 2019), this article argues that the experimentally uncharted territories (EUTs, i.e., consisting of missing residues) within PDB are pluggable and should be plugged with an experimental data-driven hybrid approach, and calls for continued development of MP structural determination with less and less EUTs, in light of MPs' crucial role in biological and biomedical research, both fundamental and pharmaceutical.

The knowledge of what separates us genetically from our less-evolved relatives is crucial for gaining new biomedical insights about the human-chimpanzee relatedness for the use of appropriate stand-in towards the development of new treatments and diagnostic aids for various ailments. Although the genomes of humans and chimpanzees share 99% similarity, significant differences exist between the two species in their non-coding intronic regions. However, no work has been carried out in the aspects of target prediction concerning the ‘predicted homology’ in their microRNA sequences. Non-coding miRNAs which are post-transcriptional regulators of development, differentiation, growth, and metabolism, harboring the intronic regions may be crucial for expanding the horizons of our understanding. In this study, we proposed to perform the target prediction for the human-chimp miRNA homologs in the PHEX gene of the human X chromosome using various computational tools and databases. We identified a total of 1296 human miRNAs, 46, 957 gene targets, and 30, 563 targets of human and homologous chimp miRNAs respectively. Furthermore, we analysed gene interacting networks to identify the top interacting targets in both the species. Finally, we interpreted the biological importance of top-interacting miRNAs and their targets. The results demonstrated varying levels of multiplicity and cooperativity between the predicted miRNAs and target genes in the two genera. Such miRNAs may be responsible for the dysregulation of gene expression in several signaling pathways.
