Abstract
This article explores the critical role of SIM provisioning in modern telecommunications, emphasizing its importance in ensuring secure and scalable mobile connectivity. It delves into the evolution of SIM provisioning processes, from traditional physical SIMs to eSIMs and remote provisioning. The paper discusses the technical aspects of provisioning, including unique identifier assignment and security configurations. It examines the challenges faced in scaling these systems for the growing number of connected devices. Furthermore, it explores future directions in SIM provisioning, including the integration of AI and blockchain technologies. It also considers the economic implications and relationship to emerging network technologies like 5G and IoT.
