Energy consumption in buildings is also linked to lighting technology. Light Emitting Diode (LED) technology includes lamps and luminaires for general lighting applications. Due to their structure, LED lamps are expected to generate specific e-waste streams. LEDs are the main source of luminous flux and their elemental composition is of particular interest to the recycling sector. In this study, surface mount device (SMD) LEDs from six types of LED lamps (E27, E14, G9, R7S, GU10 and MR16) were removed, collected, separated by correlated colour temperature (CCT) (2700 K, 3000 K, 4000 K and 6500 K) and characterised for the presence of rare earth elements and precious metals. They were digested with HNO3 and aqua regia in a hot plate and characterised by inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry. The concentration of each element as a function of CCT ranged between: lanthanum (242 - 1,840) mg kg-1, cerium (132 - 284) mg kg-1, europium (15 - 69) mg kg-1, gadolinium (1.9 - 3.8) mg kg-1, terbium (0.1 - 0.4) mg kg-1, lutetium (29 - 6,381) mg kg-1, yttrium (4,804 - 11,551) mg kg-1, silver (2,712 - 5,262) mg kg-1, gold (502 - 956) mg kg-1 and palladium (32 - 110) mg kg-1. These results indicate the need for selective removal and separate recycling processes of SMD LEDs from LED lamps.

In this paper, we propose a methodology for analyzing the near-field coupling between two surface mount device (SMD) inductors using a 3-dimensional electromagnetic (3D-EM) model. To develop the 3D-EM model, we first extract the effective permeability of core magnetic material in the SMD using the loss tangent in the equivalent circuit model. Then the effective permeability is used in the magnetic material for the 3D-EM modeling of SMD inductor. The validity of the proposed 3D-EM model is confirmed by comparing the impedance and S-parameters obtained from both measured and EM-simulated values for the two near-field coupled SMDs. Finally, the near-field coupling effects between the two adjacent SMD inductors are visualized in terms of magnetic coupling path visualization (CPV) using the proposed 3D-EM model, which demonstrates its usefulness for near-field coupling analysis.

Pigeonpea (Cajanus cajan) is one of the important grain legume crops cultivated in the semi-arid tropics, playing a crucial role in the economic well-being of subsistence farmers. India is the major producer of pigeonpea, accounting for over 75 per cent of the world's production. Sterility mosaic disease (SMD), caused by Pigeonpea sterility mosaic virus (PPSMV) and transmitted by the eriophyid mite (Aceria cajani), is a major constraint to pigeonpea cultivation in the Indian subcontinent, leading to potential yield losses of up to 100 per cent. The recent characterization of another Emaravirus associated with SMD has further complicated the etiology of this challenging viral disease. This review focuses on critical areas, including the current status of the disease, transmission and host-range, rapid phenotyping techniques, as well as available disease management strategies. The review concludes with insights into the future prospects, offering an overview and direction for further research and management strategies.
