This article, based on network science, aims to contribute to overcoming its geometric and technological phases. The novelty consists in considering links of networks as linked by superimposed networks, termed here multiple superimposed soft networks (MSSN), which is introduced as a research issue. Such links of links (termed here as passive links) concern, for instance, correspondences, incompatibilities, and temporal synchronizations between the occurrences of pairs of active links of effective networks, such as those based on electrical and telecommunication. A possible constitutive mechanism of such passive linkage consists of linkage representations for practices and histories of use expressed by their validating statistical reoccurrences. We consider the possible emergent nature of the passive linkage. The reason for introducing the design and usage of MSSN properties as a research issue involves making new approaches to profile and manage networks available. Correspondence between active linkage and MSSN properties should be a matter for an experiential, machine-learning approach. Research issues relate their possible usage on the active linkage such as for classification, comparations, detection of criticalities, diagnosis, performance evaluation, and regulatory as weak forces. Furthermore, the possible identification of standard corresponding configurations of passive and active linkage are finalized to avoid their establishment or, conversely, in facilitating their establishment and keeping their replication in different contexts (or partially and in combinations) and identifying related standardized approaches (also for classes of configurations having significant levels of equivalence). This research project has methodological generalizing aspects of trans-disciplinarity. We conclude by mentioning related research issues.

Skin cancer is a prevalent type of malignancy on a global scale, and the early and accurate diag-nosis of this condition is of utmost importance for the survival of patients. The clinical assessment of cutaneous lesions is a crucial aspect of medical practice, although it encounters several obsta-cles, such as prolonged waiting time and misinterpretation. The intricate nature of skin lesions, coupled with variations in appearance and texture, presents substantial barriers to accurate clas-sification. As such, skilled clinicians often struggle to differentiate benign moles from early ma-lignant tumors in skin images. Although deep learning-based approaches such as convolution neural networks have made significant improvements, their stability and generalization continue to confront difficulties, and their performance in accurately delineating lesion borders, capturing refined spatial connections among features, and using contextual information for classification is suboptimal. To address these limitations, we propose a novel approach for skin lesion classification which combines snake models of Active Contour (AC) Segmentation, ResNet50 for feature ex-traction and a Capsule Network with a fusion of lightweight attention mechanisms, to attain the different feature channels and spatial regions within feature maps, enhance the feature discrimi-nation, and improve accuracy. We employed the Stochastic Gradient Descent (SGD) optimization algorithm to optimize the model's parameters. The proposed model is implemented on publicly available datasets, namely HAM10000 and ISIC 2020. The experimental results showed that the proposed model achieved an accuracy of 98% and AUC-ROC of 97.3%, showcasing substantial potential in terms of effective model generalization compared to existing state-of-the-art (SOTA) approaches. These results highlight the potential for our approach to reshape automated derma-tological diagnosis and provide a helpful tool for medical practitioners.

Street view images can help us better understand the city environment and potential characteristics. With the development of computer vision and deep learning, the technology of semantic segmentation algorithms has become more mature. However, DeeplabV3+, which is commonly used in semantic segmentation, has shortcomings such as a large number of parameters, high requirements for computing resources, and easy loss of detailed information. Therefore, this paper proposes LM-DeeplabV3+, which aims to greatly reduce parameters and computations of the model while ensuring the segmentation accuracy. Firstly, the lightweight network MobileNetV2 is selected as the backbone network, and the ECA attention mechanism is introduced after MobileNetV2 extracts shallow features to improve the ability of feature representation; secondly, the ASPP module is improved, and on its basis, the EPSA attention mechanism is introduced to achieve cross-dimensional channel attention and important feature interaction; thirdly, a loss function named CL loss is designed to balance the training offset of multiple categories and better indicate the segmentation quality. This paper conducted experimental verification on the Cityspaces dataset, and the results showed that the mIoU reached 74.9%, which was an improvement of 3.56% compared to DeeplabV3+; the mPA reached 83.01%, which was an improvement of 2.53% compared to DeeplabV3+.

FV (finger vein) identification is a biometric identification technology that extracts the features of FV images for identity authentication. To address the limitations of CNN-based FV identification, particularly the challenge of small receptive fields and difficulty in capturing long-range dependencies, an FV identification method Let-Net(Large kernel and attention mechanism Network) was introduced, which combines local and global information. Firstly, Let-Net employs large kernels to broaden the receptive field and incorporates depthwise convolution with residual connections to reduce parameter count. Secondly, Let-Net integrates an attention mechanism to enhance the information flows in channels and spaces for more comprehensive and distinctive FV feature extraction. The experimental results on nine public datasets show that Let-Net has excellent identification performance, and the EER and accuracy rate on the FV_USM dataset can reach 0.04% and 99.77%. The parameter number and FLOPs of Let-Net are only 0.89M and 0.25G, which means that the time cost of training and reasoning of the model is low, and it is easier to deploy and integrate into various applications.

. Manufacturers are increasingly adopting mixed-flow manufacturing models to meet the growing customized, diverse, and dynamic customer demand. In such an environment, material distribution scheduling optimization is vital for smooth operations and is integral to production management. However, manufacturers frequently encounter problems like disordered and delayed material distribution. Traditional scheduling methods suffer from problems like inadequate transparency, delayed decision directives, and suboptimal results, impacting performance. To this end, this study proposes a dynamic material distribution scheduling optimization model and strategy based on digital twin (DT) to address these problems. Firstly, we introduce workstation satisfaction and establish a material distribution path optimization model minimizing total distribution cost while maximizing workstation satisfaction. Subsequently, we present a cloud-edge computing-based decision framework and explain the DT-based material distribution system's components and operation. Furthermore, a dynamic material distribution scheduling optimization mechanism based on DT is designed. By incorporating a savings method and incentive, penalty strategies, improvements are made to the path node selection probabilities and the information pheromone update rules of the traditional ant colony optimization (ACO) algorithm. Finally, a numerical case study, using real data from collaborating enterprises, validates the proposed algorithm and strategy. This research offers valuable insights into logistics management and algorithm design in smart manufacturing environments.

To address the deficiency of existing relation extraction models in effectively extracting relational triplets pertaining to railway traffic knowledge in Tibet, this paper constructs a Tibet Railway Traffic text dataset and provides an enhanced relation extraction model. The proposed model incorporates subject feature enhancement and relational attention mechanisms. It leverages a pre-trained model as the embedding layer to obtain vector representations of text. Subsequently, the subject is extracted and its semantic information is augmented using an LSTM neural network. Furthermore, during object extraction, the multi-head attention mechanism enables the model to prioritize relations associated with the aforementioned features. Finally, objects are extracted based on the subjects and relations. The proposed method has been comprehensively evaluated on multiple datasets, including the Tibet Railway Traffic text dataset and two public datasets. The results on the Tibet dataset achieves an F1-score of 93.3\%, surpassing the baseline model CasRel by 0.8\%, indicating a superior applicability of the proposed model. On the other hand, the model achieves F1-scores of 91.1\% and 92.6\% on two public datasets, NYT and WebNLG, respectively, outperforming the baseline CasRel by 1.5\% and 0.8\%, which highlights the good generalization ability of the proposed model.

In recent times, the soft robotics field is gaining numerous research focus owing to its high level of manipulation capabilities unlike traditional rigid robots, which gives room for an increasing use in other areas. However, compared to traditional rigid gripper robots, being capable of controlling/obtaining overall body stiffness when required is yet to be further explored since soft gripper robots have inherently less rigid properties. unlike previous designs with very complex variable stiffness systems, this paper demonstrates a soft gripper design with minimum system complexity while being capable of varying the stiffness of a continuum soft robotic actuator and proves to have potential applications in gripping objects of various shapes, weights & sizes. The soft gripper actuator comprises two separate mechanisms; the pneumatic mechanism for bending control and the mechanical structure for stiffness variation by pulling tendons using stepper motors which compresses the actuator, thereby changing the overall stiffness. The pneumatic mechanism was first fabricated and then embedded into another silicon layer during which it was as well merged with the mechanical structure for stiffness control. By first pneumatically actuating the actuator which causes bending and then pulling the tendons, we found out that the actuator stiffness value can be increased up to 145 % its initial value, and the gripper can grasp & lift a weight of up to 2.075 kg.

In view of the Practical Byzantine Fault Tolerance (PBFT) consensus algorithm all nodes participate in the consensus, the three-stage process has problems such as large communication overhead, random selection of master nodes and lack of reward and punishment mechanism. A Speculative Practical Byzantine Fault Tolerance (SP-PBFT) is proposed. Firstly, the consensus protocol was optimized, and a timeout mechanism was proposed to divide the consensus process into optimistic mode and pessimistic mode, which reduced the communication overhead under the premise of resisting Byzantine node attacks .Secondly, a node evaluation mechanism was proposed to calculate the node reputation value according to the node's historical behavior and give the corresponding reward or punishment, which reduced the possibility of malicious nodes participating in the consensus process. Finally, the Fibonacci grouping mechanism was used to reduce the number of nodes participating in the consensus process, fundamentally improving the consensus efficiency, avoiding the problem of centralization of the consensus process caused by the cumulative reputation value of nodes, and improving the enthusiasm of consensus nodes. Simulation experiments using Docker containers to simulate multiple nodes show that the SP-PBFT consensus algorithm proposed in this paper has better performance than PBFT consensus algorithm and other improved algorithms in terms of consensus delay, throughput, fault tolerance and communication complexity.

Remote sensing imagery is of great significance for policy decisions, especially for disaster assessment and disaster relief. To ensure the privacy and inviolability of personal buildings, the information containing these buildings must be anonymized during the remote sensing mapping process. Traditional processing methods for these targets in remote sensing mapping are mainly based on manual retrieval and image editing tools, which are inefficient. Deep learning provides a new direction for target hiding. Although the image inpainting method based on deep learning is faster than the manual method, the cost of training calculation is a disadvantage. And the element-wise product operation used in the model increases the risk of vanished or exploded gradients. We propose a Residual Attention Target Hiding (RATH) model for remote sensing target hiding based on deep learning. RATH uses residual attention modules to replace gated convolutions, reducing parameters and mitigating gradient issues. The residual attention module preserves gated convolution performance but provides an adjustable kernel size. RATH retains gated convolutions for dynamic feature selection and balances model depth and width. Furthermore, this paper modifies the contextual attention layer by adjusting the fusion process to enlarge the fusion patch size. Finally, we extend the edge-guided function to preserve the original target information and confound viewers. Ablation studies on an open dataset prove RATH’s efficiency for image inpainting and target hiding. RATH achieves state-of-the-art results with lower complexity. And it has the highest similarity for edge-guided target hiding. RATH enables robust, efficient target hiding for privacy protection in remote sensing imagery while balancing performance and complexity. Experiments show RATH's superiority over existing methods in hiding arbitrary-shaped targets.

The ozonation reaction in a bubble column reactor (BCR) has been widely used in the removal of phenol from wastewater, but the phenol removal efficiency in this type of reactor is limited because of low ozone solubility and reactivity in the system. In the present study, the phenol degradation was enhanced using α-Al2O3 as a packing material and a ZnO nanocatalyst in the BCR. The reactor diameter and height were 8 cm and 180 cm, respectively. The gas distributor was designed to include 52 holes of 0.5-mm diameter. Also, the gas holdup, pressure drop, and bubble size were measured as a function of the superficial gas velocity (i.e., 0.5, 1, 1.5, 2, 2.5, and 3 cm/s). The evaluation of the hydrodynamic parameters provided a deep understanding of the ozonation process to select the optimal operating parameters in the reactor. It was found that the best superficial gas velocity was 2.5 cm/s. A complete (100%) phenol removal was achieved for phenol concentrations of 15, 20, and 25 ppm at reaction times of 80, 90, and 100 min, respectively, using α-Al2O3 packing material and a ZnO nanocatalyst in the BCR. Additionally, the results provided a clear reaction mechanism describing the ozonized BCR. Finally, the applied treatment method can be used efficiently to remove phenol from wastewater at a low cost, with little consumed energy, and a simple operation.

Target recognition mainly includes three approaches: optical image-based, echo detection-based, and passive signal analysis-based methods. Among them, the passive signal-based method is closely integrated with practical applications due to its strong environmental adaptability. Based on passive radar signal analysis, we design an "end-to-end" model that cascades a noise estimation network with a recognition network to identify working modes in noise environment. The noise estimation network is implemented based on U-Net, which adopts a method of feature extraction and reconstruction to adaptively estimate the noise mapping level of the sample, which can help the recognition network to reduce noise interference. Focusing on the characteristics of radar signal, the recognition network is realized based on Multi-Scale Convolutional Attention Network (MSCANet). Firstly, the deep group convolution is used to isolate the channel interaction in the shallow network. Then, through the multi-scale convolution module, finer-grained features of the signal are extracted without increasing the complexity of the model. Finally, the self-attention mechanism is used to suppress the influence of low-correlation and negative-correlation channels and spaces. This method overcomes the problem that the conventional method is seriously disturbed by noise. We validated the proposed method in 81 kinds of noise environments, achieving an average accuracy of 94.65%. Additionally, we discussed the performance of six machine learning algorithms and four deep learning algorithms. Compared to these methods, proposed MSCANet achieved an accuracy improvement of approximately 17%. Our method demonstrates better generalization and robustness.

Fine-grained image classification remains an ongoing challenge in the computer vision field, which is particularly intended to identify objects within sub-categories. It is a difficult task since there is a minimal and substantial intra-class variance. The current methods address the issue by first locating selective regions with Region Proposal Networks (RPN), object localization, or part localization, followed by implementing a CNN Network or SVM classifier to those selective regions. This approach, however, makes the process simple by implementing a single-stage end-to-end feature encoding with a localization method, which leads to improved feature representations of individual tokens/regions by integrating the transformer encoder blocks into the Yolov5 backbone structure. These Transformer Encoder Blocks, with their self-attention mechanism, effectively captured the global dependencies and enabled the model to learn relationships between distant regions. This improved the model ability to understand context and captured long-range spatial relationships in the image. We also replaced the Yolov5 detection heads with three transformer heads at the output for object recognition using the discriminative and informative features maps from transformer encoder blocks. We established the potential of the single stage detector for the fine-grained image recognition task, by achieving state of the art 93.4% accuracy, as well as outperforming the existing Yolov5 model. The effectiveness of our approach is assessed using the Stanford car dataset, which includes 16,185 images of 196 different classes of vehicles with significantly identical visual appearances.

Forest fires are one of the world's deadliest natural disasters. Early detection of forest fires can help minimize the damage to ecosystems and forest life. In this paper, we propose an improved fire detection method YOLOv5-IFFDM for YOLOv5. Firstly, the fire and smoke detection accuracy and the network perception accuracy of small targets are improved by adding attention mechanism in the backbone network. Secondly, the loss function is improved and the SoftPool pyramid pooling structure is used to improve the regression accuracy and detection effect of the model and the robustness of the model. In addition, random Mosaic augmentation technique is used to enhance the data to increase the generalization ability of the model, and re-clustering of flame and smoke detection a priori frames are used to improve the accuracy and speed. Finally, the parameters of the convolutional and normalization layers of the trained model are homogeneously merged to further reduce the model responsibility to improve the detection speed. Experimental results on homemade forest fire and smoke datasets show that this algorithm has high detection accuracy and fast detection speed, with average accuracy of fire up to 90.5% and smoke up to 84.3%, and detection speed up to 75 FPS (frames per second transmission), which can meet the requirements of real-time and efficient fire detection.

Although renal denervation (RDN) protects against hypertension, hypertrophy, and heart failure (HF), it is not clear whether RDN preserves ejection fraction (EF) during heart failure (HFpEF). To test this hypothesis, we simulated chronic congestive cardiopulmonary heart failure (CHF) by creating aorta-vena cava fistula (AVF) in C57BL/6J wild type (WT) mice. There are four ways to create experimental CHF: (1) myocardial infarction (MI) which is basically ligating coronary by instrumenting and injuring the heart; (2) trans-aortic constriction (TAC), although it mimics systematic hypertension but TAC again constricts aorta on top of the heart and exposes the heart; (3) acquired CHF such as by dietary factors, diabetes/salt diets etc. but it is multifactorial, and finally (4) AVF, which is the only one wherein AVF is created ~1cm below the kidney where the aorta and vena cava share the common middle-wall. By creating fistula, the red blood enters vena cava without an injury to the heart. This model mimics CHF such as during aging where with age the preload keeps increasing than the aging heart can pump out due to the weakened cardiac myocytes. This also involves the right ventricle to lung to left ventricle flow, thus creating congestion. The heart in AVF goes to transition from preserved to reduced EF (i.e., HFpEF to HFrEF). In fact, there are more models of volume overload, such as the pacing-induced and mitral valve regurgitation but these are also injurious models. Our lab is one of the original labs in creating and studying the AVF phenotype. The RDN was created by treating the cleaned bilateral renal artery. After 6 weeks, blood, heart, and renal samples were analyzed for exosome, cardiac regeneration markers and renal cortex proteinases. Cardiac function was analyzed by echocardiogram (ECHO). Fibrosis was analyzed with trichrome staining. The results suggested that there was robust increase in exosomes’ level in AVF blood, suggesting compensatory systemic response during AVF-CHF. During AVF there was no change in cardiac eNOS, Wnt1 and β-catenin, however; during RDN there was robust increase in eNOS, Wnt1 and β-catenin compared to the sham group. As expected in HFpEF there was perivascular fibrosis, hypertrophy and pEF. Interestingly, increased levels of eNOS suggested that despite fibrosis, the NO generation was higher that most likely contributed to pEF during HF. The RDN intervention revealed an increase in renal cortical caspase 8 and a decrease in caspase 9. Since caspase 8 is protective and caspase 9 is apoptotic, we suggest that RDN protects against renal stresses, and apoptosis. Our findings also suggest that RDN is cardioprotective during HFpEF via the preservation of eNOS and accompanied endocardial-endothelial function.

The multi-modal data fusion method based on IA-net and CHMM technical proposed is designed to solve the problem that the incompleteness of target behavior information in complex family environment leads to the low accuracy of human behavior recognition.The two improved neural networks(STA-ResNet50、STA-GoogleNet)are combined with LSTM to form two IA-Nets respectively to extract RGB and skeleton modal behavior features in video. The two modal feature sequences are input CHMM to construct the probability fusion model of multi-modal behavior recognition.The experimental results show that the human behavior recognition model proposed in this paper has higher accuracy than the previous fusion methods on HMDB51 and UCF101 datasets. New contributions: attention mechanism is introduced to improve the efficiency of video target feature extraction and utilization. A skeleton based feature extraction framework is proposed, which can be used for human behavior recognition in complex environment. In the field of human behavior recognition, probability theory and neural network are cleverly combined and applied, which provides a new method for multi-modal information fusion.

Visual question answering (VQA) is receiving increasing attention from researchers in both the computer vision and natural language processing fields. There are two key components in the VQA task: feature extraction and multi-modal fusion. For feature extraction, we introduce a novel co-attention scheme by combining Sentence-guide Word Attention (SWA) and Question-guide Image Attention (QIA) in a unified framework. To be specific, the textual attention SWA relies on the semantics of the whole question sentence to calculate contributions of different question words for text representation. For the multi-modal fusion, we propose a “Cross-modal Multistep Fusion (CMF)” network to generate multistep features and achieve multiple interactions for two modalities, rather than focusing on modeling complex interactions between two modals like most current feature fusion methods. To avoid the linear increase of the computational cost, we share the parameters for each step in the CMF. Extensive experiments demonstrate that the proposed method can achieve competitive or better performance than the state-of-the-art.

Background: In 1962, Susser and Stein observed that the mortality rates of peptic ulcers in England and Wales increased markedly in the 1910s, maintained at a high level during the 1910s-1940s, and began to decline steadily since the early 1950s. They termed this epidemic pattern a birth-cohort phenomenon, but its mechanism has never been elucidated. Susser and Stein speculated that the occurrences of extraordinary social environmental factors roughly fit the fluctuations, but the role of environmental factors in peptic ulcers has never been identified. Objectives: This study aims to elucidate the mechanism of the birth-cohort phenomenon of peptic ulcers and identify the role of environmental factors in the disease. Methods: Starting from an etiology identified recently, this study uses the two inverse operations in calculus, differentiation, and integration, to analyze the existing data. First, a fluctuation curve in the birth-cohort phenomenon is differentiated into multiple annual mortality rates caused by individual environmental factors. Second, these annual mortality rates are integrated to reproduce the fluctuation curve in the birth-cohort phenomenon. Results: The differentiation reveals a parallel relationship between the psychological impacts of environmental factors and the mortality rates of peptic ulcers, whereas the integration reproduces a representative fluctuation curve in the birth-cohort phenomenon. The successive occurrences of multiple social environmental factors from the 1910s to 1940s maintained the increase in mortality rates, while the sustained improvements in living environments explained the steady decline of the mortality rates from the early 1950s. Conclusion: The parallel relationship suggests a causal role of environmental factors in peptic ulcers, whereas the reproduction of a representative fluctuation curve indicates that multiple environmental factors caused the birth-cohort phenomenon by Superposition Mechanism. Significantly, this study challenges the current reductionist approach used to study disease in modern medicine by demonstrating the effectiveness of an opposite methodological concept focused on integration.

Upcycling recycled carbon fibers recovered from waste carbon composites can reduce the price of carbon fibers while improving disposal-related environmental problems. This study assessed and characterized recycled carbon fibers subjected to sizing treatment using N-(2-aminoethyl)-3-aminopropyltrimethoxysilane (APS) chemically coordinated with polyamide 6 (PA6) and polypropylene (PP) resins. Sizing treatment with 1 wt.% APS for 10 s yielded O=C-O on the surface of the carbon fiber, and the -SiOH in the APS underwent a dehydration-condensation reaction that converted O=C-O (lactone groups) into bonds of C-O (hydroxyl groups) and C=O (carbonyl groups). The effects of C-O and C=O on the interfacial bonding force increased to a maximum, resulting in an oxygen-to-carbon ratio (O/C) of 0.26. The polar/surface energy ratio showed the highest value of 32.29% at 10 s, and the interfacial bonding force showed the maximum value of 32 MPa at 10 s, which is about 15% better than that of commercial carbon fiber (PA6-based condition). In 10-s resizing treatments with 0.5 wt.% 3-methacryloxypropyltrimethoxysilane (MPS), C-O, C=O, and O=C-O underwent a dehydration-condensation reaction with -SiOH, which broke the bonds between carbon and oxygen and introduced a methacrylate group (H2C=C(CH3)CO2H), resulting in a significant increase in C-O and C=O, with an O/C of 0.51. The polar/surface free energy ratio was about 38% at 10 s, with the interfacial bonding force increasing to 27% compared to commercial carbon fiber (PP-based conditions). The MPS exhibited a superior interfacial shear strength improvement, two times higher than that of APS, with excellent coordination with PP resin and commercial carbon fiber, although the interfacial bonding strength of the PP resin was significantly lower.

Plant flavonoids have increasingly paid a close attention to for new antimicrobial agents or adjuvants. In our previous work, it was confirmed that the cell membrane is the major site of plant flavonoids acting on the gram-positive bacteria, and which likely involves the inhibition of the respiratory chain. Inspired by the similar structural and antioxidant characters of plant flavonoids to MKH₂, we deduced that the quinone pool is probably a key target of plant flavonoids inhibiting gram-positive bacteria. To verify this, twelve plant flavonoids with six structural subtypes were preliminary selected, and their MICs against gram-positive bacteria were predicted from the antimicrobial quantitative relationship of plant flavonoids to gram-positive bacteria. The results showed they have different antimicrobial activities. After their MICs against S. aureus were determined using broth microdilution method, nine compounds with the MICs ranged from 2 to 4,096 μg/mL or more than 1,024 μg/mL were eventually selected, and then their MICs against S. aureus were determined interfered with different concentrations of MK-4 and the MKs extracted from S. aureus. The results showed that the greater the antibacterial activities of plant flavonoids were, the more greatly their antibacterial activities decreased along with the increase of the interfering concentrations of MK-4 (from 2 to 256 μg/mL) and MK extract (from 4 to 512 μg/mL), and while those, with the MICs equal to or more than 512 μg/mL, decreased a little or remained unchanged. Especially, under the interference of MK-4 (256 μg/mL) and MK extract (512 μg/mL), the MICs of α-mangostin, a compound with greatest inhibitory activity to S. aureus in these twelve plant flavonoids, increased by 16 times and 8 to16 times, respectively. Based on these above, it was proposed that the quinone pool is a key target of plant flavonoids inhibiting gram-positive bacteria, and which likely involves multiple mechanisms including some enzyme and non-enzyme inhibitions.

The efficiency and performance of Proton Exchange Membrane Fuel Cells (PEMFCs) are primarily influenced by ORR electrocatalysts. In recent years, atomically dispersed met-al-nitrogen-carbon (M-N-C) catalysts have gained significant attention due to their high active center density, high atomic utilization, and high activity. These catalysts are now considered the preferred alternative to traditional noble metal electrocatalysts. The unique properties of M-N-C catalysts are anticipated to enhance the energy conversion efficiency and lower the manufac-turing cost of the entire system, thereby facilitating the commercialization and widespread ap-plication of fuel cell technology. This article initially delves into the origin of performance and degradation mechanisms of Fe-N-C catalysts from both experimental and theoretical perspectives. Building on this foundation, the focus shifts to strategies aimed at enhancing the activity and durability of atomically dispersed Fe-N-C catalysts. These strategies encompass the use of bi-metallic atoms, atomic clusters, heteroatoms (B, S, and P), and morphology regulation to optimize catalytic active sites. The article concludes by detailing the current challenges and future pro-spects of atomically dispersed Fe-N-C catalysts.

This review describes how resonance in amides is greatly affected upon substitution at nitrogen by two electronegative atoms. Nitrogen becomes strongly pyramidal and resonance stabilisation, evaluated computationally, can be reduced to as little as 50% that of N,N-dimethylacetamide. However, this occurs without significant twisting about the amide bond, which is borne out both experimentally and theoretically. In certain configurations, reduced resonance and pronounced anomeric effects between heteroatom substituents are instrumental in driving the HERON (Heteroatom Rearrangement On Nitrogen)^† reaction, in which the more electronegative atom migrates from nitrogen to the carbonyl carbon in concert with heterolysis of the amide bond, to generate acyl derivatives and heteroatom-substituted nitrenes. In other cases the anomeric effect facilitates S­_N1 and S_N2 reactivity at the amide nitrogen.

Metal and alloy toughening was the core and long-term research direction in materials filed. As grain size had bimodal distribution, micro/nano-structured alloys presented excellent comprehensive mechanical properties, and this had become one of the research hotspots and developing trends in the field of nanotechnology. In-situ tensile test was a direct and effective method to study the deformation mechanism of materials, which revealed the multiple mechanisms responding to feature grain sizes and provided reliable experimental means and research technique. Research on development of in-situ technique and its applications in mechanical properties was reviewed in this paper according to the recent advances on the modern mechanical properties for high strength and high plasticity alloy at home and abroad. The disadvantages of the present study of preparation methods and investigation techniques for high-performance alloy had been concluded. Finally, the development prospects of high strength and high plasticity alloy materials were analyzed.

Efficient use of agricultural wastes and by-products, basically transforming waste materials into value added products, is considered as pivotal for an effective bioeconomy strategy for the rural development. To this scope, citrus waste management represents a major issue for citrus processors but, at the same time, it embodies a potentially unexploited resource for the rural sustainable development. This study focuses on analyzing the current management of citrus waste in South Italy and identifying the determinants and barriers that may affect an entrepreneur’s choice on the destination of citrus waste. Citrus processors’ preferences about the contract characteristics needed to take part in a co-investment scheme have been investigated. Both analyses are preliminary steps to design an innovative and sustainable citrus by-product supply chain. Results show that the distance between the citrus processors and the citrus by-products plant is one of the main criteria for choosing alternative valorization pathways. Moreover, the required guaranteed capital, the short duration of the contract, and low risk are contract scheme characteristics that improve entrepreneurs’ willingness to co-invest in the development of a citrus waste multifunctional plant.

In this paper, through high-temperature tensile tests of 55NiCrMoV7 steel, the high-temperature fracture behavior, microstructure evolution and carbide distribution characteristics of both thermal-mechanical coupling zone (fracture zone) and thermal stress zone (clamping zone) at different temperatures were studied. Intrinsic relationship between high temperature fracture and carbides types, distribution and size were revealed and evolution mechanism of microstructure near cracks in 55NiCrMoV7 hot-working die steel during high temperature deformation was clarified. Samples were stretched at different temperatures from 25 °C to 700 °C, and microscopic examinations were carried out by using SEM and TEM. The results showed that: With the increase of temperature, tensile strength and yield strength decreased, elongation and reduction of area increased, and fracture mode changed from brittle fracture to ductile fracture by transition temperature at about 400℃. During high temperature deformation, the grain dislocation density decreased, the tempered martensite decomposed, recovered, recrystallized, and then grain grew. M7C3 and M23C6 carbides precipitated and grew along the grain boundary, and a small amount of fine granular MC carbides were dispersed in the grain. The work done by the external force on the deformation zone would cause the temperature of it to be higher than tensile temperature, which provides thermodynamic conditions for the re-dissolution of small carbides near the fracture zone and the grain growth of large carbides, resulting in the decrease of small carbides and increase of large carbides in thermal-mechanical coupling zone.

To understand the enhanced protection mechanism of CoCrNiAlY-YSZ-LaMgAl11O19 dou-ble-layer ceramic coating with aluminum plating, a finite element simulation method was used to simulate the distribution of thermal stress in the coating in all directions. The results show that in the air exposure of the un-aluminized coating, high temperature causes a large radial thermal stress on the surface of the LaMgAl11O19 (LMA) layer, and it increases with the increase in temperature, which is the main reason for the initiation of axial cracks. After arc aluminum plating, the aluminum plating layer effectively inhibited the volume shrinkage of the coating through good adhesion to the coating and internal diffusion, the thermal stress of the coating was considerably reduced, and the CoCrNiAlY-YSZ-LMA coating had an effective enhancement and protection effect; however, there was still a certain amount of shear thermal stress inside the LMA layer, the top of the crack, and the bottom of the crack. This thermal stress caused the initi-ation of radial microcracks in the LMA layer, which also becomes a risk point for the failure of the aluminum coating.

Methylene blue has been electropolymerized on the surface of a stainless steel 316. The addition of sodium oxalate and working at a pH near 11 has allowed to obtain steel electrodes coated with electroactive polymer. This polymer shows electrochromic properties similar to those of the monomer, but also appears electroactivity at more positive potentials which is associated to the active centers in the bridges between monomeric units. The study by means of digital video electrochemistry has allowed on the one hand, to quantify the color changes on the entire surface of the stainless steel simultaneously and by means of the mean color intensities to separate the contribution to the overall polymer response of the active centers of the phenothiazine ring and of the inter-monomer bonds. A reduction mechanism for the polymer compatible with the pH variation of the observed electrochemical behavior is proposed.

Borneol and menthol were two terpenes wildly used as penetrate enhancer in transdermal drug delivery. To explore their penetration enhancement effect towards hydrophilic drug, 5-FU was selected as model drug. A method combined vitro permeation studies and coarse grain molecular dynamics was used to investigate their penetration enhancement effect towards 5-FU. As a result, although both borneol and menthol showed a penetration enhancement effect towards 5-FU, they differed a lot in the penetration enhancement mechanism, which was also thought to account for their different penetration enhancement effect. As for menthol, SC bilayer disrupting effect seemed to be its main mechanism. While for borneol, its mechanism seemed to be more complicated. Except for disrupting the SC bilayer, it could also increase the permeation of 5-FU by enhancing the diffusion rate of 5-FU or inducing the formation of transient pore. All of this enable us a molecular understanding of borneol and menthol’s penetration enhancement effect towards hydrophilic drug, which might provide some guidance in the latter research and application.

Water area segmentation in remote sensing is of great importance for flood monitoring. To overcome some challenges in this task, we construct the Water Index and Polarization Information (WIPI) multi-modality dataset and propose a multi-Modality Fusion and Gated multi-Filter U-Net (MFGF-UNet) convolutional neural network. The WIPI dataset enhances the water information and reduces the data dimension. In particular, the Cloud-Free label provided in the database effectively mitigates the issue of scarcity of labeled samples Since a single form or uniform kernel size cannot handle the variety in size and shape of water bodies, we proposed the gated multi-filter inception (GMF-Inception) module in our MFGF-UNet. Moreover, we utilize the attention mechanism by introducing the Gated Channel Transform (GCT) skip connection and integrating GCT into GMF- Inception to further improve model performance. Extensive experiments on three benchmarks, including WIPI, Chengdu and GF2020 datasets demonstrate that our method achieves favorable performance with lower complexity and better robustness against six competing approaches. For example, on WIPI, Chengdu and GF2020 datasets, the proposed MFGF-UNet model achieves F1 of 0.9191, 0.7410, and 0.8421, respectively, which average F1 on three datasets is 0.0045 higher than the U-Net model and reduces 62% average GFLOPs. Nowadays, there are several electric vehicle (EV) on the market, due to the innovation of technology that promotes the new components such as battery, transmission, electric motors. This paper proposes a design approach for the configuration synthesis and simulation of the in-wheel-hub motor transmissions with the six-link mechanisms. The synthesis process shows 6 mechanisms with six members and eight joints, 15 new clutchless motor transmissions and 16 new clutched motor transmissions. A novel motor transmission in the feasibility of the synthesized configurations is selected as an example to analyze the working principle with operation modes and power flow paths. And, this design is modeled for the simulation process that generates the results of operation mode transition and energy regulation.

Under the "dual carbon" target in China, virtual power plants (VPPs) play an important role in improving grid security and promoting clean and low-carbon energy transformation. VPPs can integrate and control distributed resources to participate in the energy market and make full use of distributed resources. However, the intermittency and volatility of renewable energy and the "heat-driven" working mode of CHP units create contradictions that seriously affect the peak-shaving ability of VPPs and lead to high carbon emissions. To solve these problems, this paper aggregates CHP units, wind power, photovoltaics, carbon capture, hydrogen energy storage, and electric boilers into a new type of virtual power plant. The "hydrogen energy storage-electric boiler" joint decoupling CHP working mode is used to strengthen the coupling relationship between electric-thermal-hydrogen load. At the same time, a tiered carbon trading mechanism is considered, with the net profit of the VPP as the optimization objective, balancing economic and environmental considerations. A low-carbon economic dispatch model for VPPs is established, and a genetic algorithm is used for optimization. Three different scheduling strategies are set, and simulations are conducted in three different seasonal scenarios. The results show that the net profit in the cooling season increased by 50.4%, and carbon emissions decreased by 42.3%. In the transitional season, the net profit increased by 39.2%, and carbon emissions decreased by 44.9%. In the heating season, the net profit increased by 19.4%, and carbon emissions decreased by 43.4%. Overall, the proposed dispatch strategy can improve the new energy consumption capacity and total revenue of VPPs while achieving the goal of reducing carbon emissions.

The log interpretation and evaluation of Chang 8 tight sandstone reservoir in Longdong West area, Ordos Basin, is facing great challenges due to the existence of low resistivity contrast oil pays. To better guide the exploration of oil resources in this area, the characteristics and control mechanism of low resistivity contrast oil pays were studied in this research. Firstly, according to the relative value of apparent resistivity increase rate of the target formation, the reservoir was divided into two types: low resistivity contrast oil pay (LRCP) and high resistivity oil pay (HRP). Then, the reservoir characteristics were studied by comparing and analyzing the experimental data, formation water data and logging data collected from the two reservoir types. On this basis, the control mechanism of LRCP was studied and summarized into reservoir micro factors and regional macro factors, respectively. It is found that the reservoir rock composition between LRCP and HRP is basically the same. Compared with HRP reservoir, the average porosity and permeability of LRCP reservoir are relatively better, but the pore structure is relatively poorer because of the high content of micro pores. When the filling pressure of crude oil is sufficient enough, the high oil saturation can be formed in LRCP reservoir. The high irreducible water saturation and high formation water salinity are the main micro factors reduced the reservoir resistivity. Besides, the difference of hydrocarbon expulsion capacity of source rock and the regional difference of formation water salinity are the macro factors influenced the distribution of LRCP and HRP from vertical and horizontal of the region. The formation of LRCP is controlled by the comprehensive influence of reservoir micro factors and regional macro factors. And the comprehensive consideration of the influence of micro factors and macro factors on LRCP is suggested during the log interpretation and evaluation.

ALDH+ H1975 lung adenocarcinoma stem cells (LSCs) are a rare cell population identified in lung adenocarcinoma (LUAD). LSCs can self-renew, drive tumor initiation, growth, metastasis, and recurrence, and are also the predominant cause of poor prognosis due to their intrinsic resistance to drugs and chemotherapy. Consequently, LSCs are a promising target for LUAD therapy. Noncoding RNAs (ncRNAs), including microRNAs (miRNAs), long noncoding RNAs (lncRNAs), and circular RNAs (circRNAs), exert many significant regulatory functions in the pathogenesis of human cancers, showing the necessity for a comprehensive understanding of the mechanisms that underlie lung carcinogenesis. Nonetheless, research on many known transcripts and messenger RNAs (mRNAs) has already generated new information. Unknown biomarkers in ncRNAs and systematic and comprehensive interrelation with unknown ncRNAs and mRNAs may provide further insights into the biology of LUAD. Herein, a set of novel ncRNAs that include miRNAs, lncRNAs, circRNAs, were identified and differentially expressed patterns of ncRNAs and mRNAs in LSCs and ALDH- H1975 LUAD tumor cells (LTCs) were obtained using stringent bioinformatics pipelines. Through a meta-analysis of the identified landscapes, novel competitive endogenous RNA (ceRNA) networks were constructed to reveal the potential molecular mechanisms that regulate the hallmarks of LSCs and LTCs. This study presents a summary of novel ncRNAs and the fundamental roles of differentially expressed ncRNAs implicated in the activity of LSCs and LTCs. In addition, the study also provides a comprehensive resource for the future identification of diagnostic, therapeutic, and prognostic biomarkers in LUAD.

Galls are characteristic plant structures formed by cell size enlargement and/or cell proliferation induced by parasitic or pathogenic organisms. Insects are a major inducer of galls, and insect galls can occur on plant leaves, stems, floral buds, flowers, fruits, or roots. Many of these exhibit unique shapes, providing shelter and nutrients to insects. To form unique gall structures, gall-inducing insects are believed to secrete certain effector molecules and hijack host developmental programs. However, the molecular mechanisms of insect gall induction and development remain largely unknown due to the difficulties associated with the study of non-model plants in the wild. Recent advances in next-generation sequencing have allowed us to determine the biological processes in non-model organisms, including gall-inducing insects and their host plants. In this review, we first summarize the adaptive significance of galls for insects and plants. Thereafter, we summarize recent progress regarding the molecular aspects of insect gall formation.

The formation of high-melting-point Cu₆Sn₅ interconnections is crucial to overcome the collapse of Sn-based micro-bumps and produce reliable intermetallic interconnections in three-dimensional (3D) package. However, because of the multiple reflows in 3D package manufacturing, Cu₆Sn₅ interconnections will experience the cyclic polymorphic transitions in the solid state. The repeated and abrupt change in the Cu₆Sn₅ lattice due to the cyclic polymorphic transitions can cause extreme strain oscillations, producing damages at the surface and in the interior of the Cu₆Sn₅ matrix. Moreover, because of the polymorphic-transition-induced grain splitting and superstructure phase formation, the reliability of Cu₆Sn₅ interconnections will thus face great challenges in 3D package. In addition, the Cu₆Sn₅ polymorphic transition is structure-dependent, and the η′↔η polymorphic transition will occur at the surface while the η′↔ηs↔η polymorphic transition will occur in the deep matrix. Our results can provide in-depth understandings of structural evolution and damage mechanism of Cu₆Sn₅ interconnections in real 3D package manufacturing.

The notion of hierarchy is a key characteristic of any complex system. This paper explores which notions of hierarchy are being used in the field of management and organization studies. Four distinct types of hierarchy are identified: a ladder of formal decision-making authority, a ladder of achieved status, a self-organized ladder of responsibility, and an ideology-based ladder. A social mechanism-based perspective serves to define and distinguish these four types. Subsequently, the typology is further developed by comparing the four hierarchy types in terms of their tacit/explicitness, (in)transitivity, and behavior- versus cognition-centeredness. This review article contributes to the literature by dissecting the general metaphor of hierarchy into four different constructs and their social mechanisms, which serves to create a typology of the various ways in which complex systems can be characterized as being hierarchical. This typology can inform future research drawing on any type of hierarchy.

In the FCC conversion of heavy petroleum fractions as atmospheric residues, the main challenge for refiners to achieve the quantity and quality of various commercial products depends essentially on the catalyst used in the process. A deep characterization of the catalyst at different steps of the process (fresh, regenerated, and spent catalyst) was investigated to study the catalyst's behavior including the physicochemical evolution, the deactivation factor, and kinetic-thermodynamic parameters. All samples have been characterized by various spectroscopy methods such as N2 adsorption-desorption, UV-visible spectroscopy, Raman spectroscopy, LECO carbon analysis, Scanning electron microscopy (SEM), X-ray diffraction (XRD), X‐ray fluorescence (XRF), nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy (NMR13C) analysis, and Thermogravimetric analysis. The results of N2 adsorption-desorption, UV-vis, Raman, LECO carbon, and SEM images showed that the main causes of catalyst deactivation and coking were the deposition of carbon species that covered the active sites and clogged the pores, and the attrition factor due to thermal conditions and poisonous metals. The XRD and XRF results showed the catalyst’s physicochemical evolution during the process and the different interlinks between catalyst and feedstock (Nickel, Vanadium, Sulfur, and Iron) elements which should be responsible for the coking and catalyst attrition factor. It has been found that, in addition to the temperature, the residence time of the catalyst in the process also has an influence on catalyst structure transformation. NMR13C analysis revealed that polyaromatic hydrocarbon is the main component in the deposited coke of the spent catalyst. Thermogravimetric analysis showed that the order of catalyst mass loss was fresh > regenerated > spent catalyst due to the progressive losses of the hydroxyl bonds (OH) and the structure change along the catalyst thermal treatment. Moreover, the kinetic and thermodynamic parameters showed that all zones are non-spontaneous endothermic reactions.

Polychlorinated phenoxathiins (PCPTs), polychlorinated dibenzothiophenes (PCDTs), and polychlorinated thianthrenes (PCTAs) are sulfur analogues of polychlorinated dibenzo-p-dioxins and polychlorinated dibenzofurans (PCDD/DFs). Chlorothiophenols(CTPs) and chlorophenols (CPs) are key precursors to form PCTA/PT/DTs, which can form chloro(thio)phenoxy radical, sulfydryl/hydryl-substituted phenyl radical and (thio)phenoxyl diradicals. The available radical/radical PCTA/DT formation mechanism failed to explain the higher concentration of PCDTs than that of PCTAs under the pyrolysis or combustion conditions. Thus in this work, a detailed thermodynamics and kinetic calculations were carried out to investigate the pre-intermediates formation for PCTA/PT/DTs from radial/molecule coupling of 2-C(T)P with their key radical species. Our study found that the radial/molecule mechanism can thermodynamically and kinetically contribute to the gas-phase formation of PCTA/PT/DT/s. The S/C coupling modes to form thioether-(thio)enol intermediats are preferable over the O/C coupling modes to form ether-(thio)enol intermediats. Thus, although the radial/molecule coupling of chlorophenoxy radical with 2-C(T)P have no effect on the PCDD/PTs formation, the radial/molecule coupling of chlorothiophenoxy radical with 2-C(T)P play an important role in the PCDT/PT formation. Most importantly, the pre-PCDT intermediates formation pathways from the coupling of sulfydryl/hydryl-substituted phenyl radical with 2-C(T)P and the coupling of (thio)phenoxyl diradicals with 2-C(T)P are more favorable to pre-PCTA/PT intermediates formation pathways from the coupling of chlorothiophenoxy radical with 2-C(T)P, which can give reasonable explanation for the high PCDT-to-PCTA ratio in the environment.

The widespread use of hydrophilic intraocular lenses (IOL) in eye surgery, fabricated by poly-2- (hydroxyethylmethacrylic acid) (PHEMA), has highlighted their calcification as a serious problem, which implies their surgical explantation a rather risky process. The field of biomaterials has been developing rapidly in recent years with research interest turning to the development of novel ma-terials which involve either copolymers of PHEMA or protective functional coatings. Graphene coatings are particularly attractive because of the respective unique properties. In the present work we present the results of the investigation of the development of graphene coatings on hydrophilic IOLs and their subsequent performance with respect to calcification opacification. Hydrophilic IOL with water content of 18% by weight, were coated with graphene oxide (GO) by equilibration with GO suspensions in water. The concentrations of the suspensions ranged 1x10-4 to 20x10-4 % w/v. The GO suspensions were equilibrated with the IOLs for 5 days at constant temperature, 37°C, rotated in 30 mL tubes end over end. This treatment, resulted in the formation of a uniform coating of GO on the IOLs verified by scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and other physicochemical methods. The contact angle of the GO coated IOLs decreased significantly in comparison with the uncoated. The GO-coated IOLs exhibited higher tendency to calcify in supersaturated solutions simulating aqueous humor (SAH). The growth rate of hydroxyapatite (Ca5(PO4)3OH, HAP) on GO-coated IOLs was higher, in comparison with the respective untreated IOLs. The conversion of the GO coating by reduction with phenyl hydrazine resulted in the formation of reduced graphene (rGO) surface film, identified by Raman and XPS spectroscopy. of the rGO film was hydrophobic (contact angle 100 o) and did not calcify in supersaturated calcium phosphate solutions.

A new type of low cost, environmentally friendly wood-plastic composites (WPC) containing carbon nanotubes(CNT)of low content 0%, 0.05wt%, 0.1wt% and 0.15wt%, wood fibers of 14wt% and polymer PES of 86wt% was manufactured by the selective laser sintering (SLS) approach of 3D printing. The experimental results showed that the incorporating of CNTs could obviously increase the mechanical properties of the wood/PES composites material. The tensile strength, bending strength and elasticity modulus were 76.3%, 227.9% and 128.7% higher with 0.1wt% CNTs than without CNTs. And the mechanical properties of specimens firstly increased and then decreased with the increasing contents of CNTs. The SEM results of the specimens’ fracture morphology indicated that the preferable bonding interfaces between wood flour grains and PES grains were achieved by adding CNTs to the composites. There are two reasons to explain why the composites possessed the superior mechanical properties: CNTs could facilitate the laser sintering process of wood plastic composites due to their thermal conductivities; also, CNTs could directly reinforce the WPC composites as reinforcement.

Ternary ZnS/ZnO/graphitic carbon nitride (gCN) photocatalysts were prepared by coupling gCN sheets with ZnO nanorods under solvothermal conditions followed by sulfurization using Na2S. SEM and TEM analyses show that small-sized ZnS particles (ca. 7.2 nm) deposit homo-geneously on the surface of ZnO/gCN nanohybrids. Photoluminescence and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy show that ZnS allows an enhanced charge separation efficiency as well as prolonged lifetime of photogenerated charge carriers, leading to improved hydrogen photo-production under UV light irradiation compared to ZnO/gCN. Moreover, the deposition of ZnS nanoparticles improves the photostability of the ZnS/ZnO/gCN catalyst for hydrogen produc-tion. A double Z-scheme mechanism is proposed for hydrogen photoproduction using the ZnS/ZnO/gCN heterojunction.

Topological defects such as magnetic monopoles that may have formed during cosmological phase transitions in the early universe. The Kibble mechanisms govern the formation of this defects and their abundance is influenced by the correlation length and the temperature-dependent Higgs mass. The Magnetic monopoles are particularly interested but their excessive production poses the monopole problem which is challenge to the standard model. Many solutions including symmetry breaking patterns and thermal pair production have been proposed to mitigate the monopole problem. Detecting monopoles would offer valuable insights into high-energy physics and the early universe. Detection of (even) a single monopole could revolutionize our current knowledge of the universe.

In high-traffic harbor waters, marine radar frequently encounters signal interference stemming from various obstructive elements, thereby presenting formidable obstacles in the precise identification of ships. To achieve precise pixel-level ship identification in the complex environments, a customized neural network-based ship segmentation algorithm named MrisNet is proposed. MrisNet employs a lightweight and efficient FasterYOLO network to extract features from radar images at different levels, capturing fine-grained edge information and deep semantic features of ship pixels. To address the limitation of deep features in the backbone network lacking detailed shape and structured information, an adaptive attention mechanism is introduced after the FasterYOLO network to enhance crucial ship features. To fully utilize the multi-dimensional feature outputs, MrisNet incorporates a Transformer structure to reconstruct the PANet feature fusion network, allowing for the fusion of contextual information and capturing more essential ship information and semantic correlations. In the prediction stage, MrisNet optimizes the target position loss using the EIoU function, enabling the algorithm to adapt to ship position deviations and size variations, thereby improving segmentation accuracy and convergence speed. Experimental results demonstrate that MrisNet achieves high recall and precision rates of 94.8% and 95.2%, respectively, in ship instance segmentation, outperforming various YOLO and other single-stage algorithms. Moreover, MrisNet has a model parameter size of 13.8M and real-time computational cost of 23.5G, demonstrating notable advantages in terms of convolutional efficiency. In conclusion, MrisNet accurately segments ships with different spot features and under diverse environmental conditions in marine radar images. It exhibits outstanding performance, particularly in extreme scenarios and challenging interference conditions, showcasing robustness and applicability.

The green peach aphid, Myzus persicae (Sulzer) (Hemiptera: Aphididae), is an economically important pest of crops worldwide. A M. persicae (SEF-R) population from a cabbage field in southeastern China was tested for susceptibilities to 13 insecticides. Compared with the susceptible clone (FFJ-S), extremely high and high-resistance to beta-cypermethrin (324-fold) and imidacloprid (106.9-fold) were detected in SEF-R. More importantly, this is the first report of resistance in field M. persicae population to sulfoxaflor, flupyradifurone, pymetrozine, spirotetramat, flonicamid, and broflanilide in China. The resistance factor decayed to a low level to sulfoxaflor and pymetrozine after 15 generations without any selection pressure. The resistance-related mutations (R81T and kdr) were detected in SEF, conferring target-site resistance to neonicotinoids and pyrethroids, respectively. Biochemistry bioassays confirmed the involvement of monooxygenase enzyme, carboxylesterase, superoxide dismutase and peroxidase in multi-insecticide resistance mechanism. The overexpression of P450s, esterases, and a UDP-glycosyltransferase, might be responsible for the multi-insecticide resistance in SEF-R. The knockdown of CYP6CY3 in SEF-R increased its susceptibility to imidacloprid, thiacloprid, and thiamethoxam, which verified that P450s play vital roles in neonicotinoid metabolism. This study will be helpful for chemical control, as well as for resistance monitoring and management of GPA, in China.

In-depth research on the rehabilitation mechanism and motion characteristics of a rehabilitation training robot based on 4-UPUS parallel mechanism. The overall design and the working principle of each key component are explained, and the robot rehabilitation scheme is described. The static analysis and modal analysis of the robot bearing structure are carried out to verify whether the static mechanical characteristics of the mechanism meet the application requirements under working conditions.A simplified mathematical model of the six-bar linkage mechanism is established, and the kinematics of the mechanism is solved by the geometric analysis method. The motion characteristic diagram of each key point is obtained through simulation calculation. Establish the motion model of the parallel mechanism, and discuss the working space and motion performance analysis of the mechanism. The forward solution analysis of the mechanism position is carried out by using the numerical analysis method, and the three-dimensional graphics of the attitude angle and linear displacement of the reachable working space are obtained.Taking the UPUS single branch chain as the analysis object, the single open chain analysis method is used to solve the kinematics image of the corresponding surface in the working space of the mechanism, which verifies the correctness of the kinematics theoretical solution and the feasibility of simulation.The research results show that the 4-UPUS parallel mechanism rehabilitation training robot can cooperate with the ankle joint for rehabilitation training. It makes up for the single movement of the current lower limb rehabilitation robot and the unsatisfactory rehabilitation effect, and provides a reference for the practical application of the subsequent ankle joint rehabilitation robot system.

Malignant gliomas are heterogeneous neoplasms. Glioma stem-like cells (GSCs) are undifferentiated and self-renewing cells that develop and maintain these tumors. These cells are the main population that resist current therapies. Genomic and epigenomic analyses has identified various molecular subtypes. Bone morphogenetic protein 4 (BMP4) reduces the number of GSCs through differentiation and induction of apoptosis, thus increasing therapeutic sensitivity. However, the short half-life of BMP4 impedes its clinical application. We have previously reviewed BMP4 signaling in central nervous system development and glioma tumorigenesis and its’ potential as a treatment target in human gliomas. Recent advances in understanding both adult and pediatric malignant gliomas highlight critical roles of BMP4 signaling pathways in the regulation of tumor biology, and indicate its’ potential as a therapeutic molecule. Furthermore, significant progress has been made on synthesizing BMP4 biocompatible delivery materials, which can bind to and markedly extend BMP4 half-life. Here, we review current research associated with BMP4 in brain tumors, especially in pediatric malignant gliomas. We also summarize BMP4 delivery strategies, with a focus on biocompatible BMP4 binding peptide amphiphile nanostructures as promising novel delivery platforms for treatment of these devastating tumors.

The increased expression of β4-galactosyltransferase (β4GalT) 4 was closely associated with poor prognosis of colon cancer. Recently, we showed that the expression of the β4GalT4 gene is regulated by the 0.17 kb core promoter region containing one binding site for Specificity protein 1 (Sp1). To develop a novel screening method for anti-colon cancer drugs, two sensor cell lines having the luciferase gene under the control of two β4GalT4 gene promoters that differed in length were established from SW480 human colon cancer cells. The hGT4-0.17-sensor cells possessed the luciferase reporter driven by the 0.17 kb promoter, while the hGT4-0.3-sensor cells possessed the luciferase reporter driven by the 0.3 kb promoter containing one binding site each for colon cancer-related transcription factors including activator protein 2, E2F, caudal-related homeobox transcription factors, and Runt-related transcription factors besides Sp1. Upon treatment with mitogen-activated protein kinase inhibitor U0126, the promoter activities of the hGT4-0.3-sensor cells decreased significantly, while those of the hGT4-0.17-sensor cells unchanged. These results suggest that the responsiveness to U0126 differs between two sensor cell lines due to the different regulation of the luciferase reporters. This study provides the novel screening method for anti-colon cancer drugs by the combination of two sensor cell lines.

Human visual system (HVM) can quickly localize the most salient object in scenes, which has been widely applied on natural image segmentation [15]-[19]. In ultrasound (US) breast images, compared with background areas, tumor is more salient because of its higher contrast. In this paper, we develop a novel automatic localization method based on HVM for automatic segmentation of ultrasound (US) breast tumors. First, the input image is smoothed by convolution with a linearly separable Gaussian filter and then subsampled into a 9-layer Gaussian pyramid. Then intensity, blackness ratio, and superpixel contrast features are combined to compute saliency map, in which Winner Take All algorithm is used to localize the most salient region, presenting with a circle on the localized target. Finally the circle is taken as the initial contour of CV level set to finish the extraction of breast tumor. The localization method has been tested on 400 US beast images, among which 378 images have higher saliency than background areas and succeed in localization, with high accuracy 92.00%. The HVM localization method can be used to localize the tumors, combined with this method, CV level set can achieve the fully automatic segmentation of US breast tumors. By combing intensity, blackness ratio and superpixel contrast features, the proposed localization method can successfully avoid the interference caused by background areas with low echo and high intensity. Moreover, multi-object localization of US breast images can be considered in future employment.

A numerical mechanism connecting ice algal ecodynamics with the buildup of organic macromolecules is tested within modeled pan-Arctic brine channels. The simulations take place offline in a reduced representation of sea ice geochemistry. Physical driver quantities derive from the global sea ice code CICE, including snow cover, thickness and internal temperature. The framework is averaged over ten boreal biogeographic zones. Computed nutrient-light-salt limited algal growth supports grazing, mortality and carbon flow. Vertical transport is diffusive but responds to pore structure. Simulated bottom layer chlorophyll maxima are reasonable, though delayed by about a month relative to observations due to uncertainties in snow variability. Upper level biota arise intermittently during flooding events. Macromolecular concentrations are tracked as proxy proteins, polysaccharides, lipids and refractory humics. The fresh biopolymers undergo succession and removal by bacteria. Baseline organics enter solely through cell disruption, so that the internal carbon content is initially biased low. By including exudation, agreement with dissolved organic or individual biopolymer data is achieved given strong release coupled to light intensity. Detrital carbon then reaches hundreds of micromolar, sufficient to support structural changes to the ice matrix.

With the ongoing COVID pandemic, the emergence of a novel omicron variant in November 2021 has chaos the world. Despite mass vaccination, this omicron has spread rapidly raising concerns around the globe. The Omicron variant has a vast array of mutations as compared to another variant of concern with overall 50 mutations where 30 mutations are present in its spike protein. This mutation has led to immune escape and more transmissibility compared to other variants, including Delta. A cluster of mutations (H655Y, N679K, and P681H) present at the omicron spike protein could aid in transmission. Currently, no virus-specific data are available to predict the efficacy of anti-viral and mAbs drugs. However, two monoclonal antibody drugs: Sotrovimab and Evusheld are authorized for emergency use in COVID patients. This virus is not fading away soon. The easiest solution and less expensive measure to fight against this pandemic are following COVID appropriate protocols.There is need to strengthen the level of research for development of potential vaccines and anti-viral drugs. It is also important to monitor and expand genomic surveillance to keep track of the emergence of new variants thus avoiding the spread of new diseases worldwide. This article highlights the emergence of omicron and vast number of mutation in its protein. In addition, recent advancement in drugs approved by FDA to treat COVID patients has been listed and focused in this paper.

The epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) plays vital roles in cellular processes including cell proliferation, survival, motility and differentiation. Dysregulated activation of the receptor is often implicated in human cancers. EGFR is synthesized as a single-pass transmembrane protein, which consists of an extracellular ligand-binding domain and an intracellular kinase domain separated by a single transmembrane domain. The receptor is activated by a variety of polypeptide ligands such as epidermal growth factor and transforming growth factor α. It has long been thought that EGFR is activated by ligand-induced dimerization of the receptor monomer, which brings intracellular kinase domains into close proximity for trans-autophosphorylation. An increasing number of diverse studies, however, demonstrate that EGFR is present as a pre-formed, yet inactive, dimer prior to ligand binding. Furthermore, recent progress in structural studies has provided insight into conformational changes during the activation of a pre-formed EGFR dimer. Upon ligand binding to the extracellular domain of EGFR, its transmembrane domains rotate or twist parallel to the plane of the cell membrane, resulting in reorientation of the intracellular kinase domain dimer from a symmetric inactive configuration to an asymmetric active form (the “rotation model”). This model is also able to explain how oncogenic mutations activate the receptor in the absence of ligand without assuming that the mutations induce receptor dimerization. In this review, we discuss mechanisms underlying ligand-induced activation of the preformed EGFR dimer, as well as how oncogenic mutations constitutively activate the receptor dimer, based on the rotation model.

In order to solve the problems of complicated steering control of unmanned vehicles in the field and difficult steering on complex roads, we designed a wheel-track composite vehicle equipped with a novel power differential steering mechanism with dual driving, which drove the steering of the vehicle through the differential rotation of the rear two wheels. The unmanned vehicle was simple to control, small in size, and able to work under the conditions of complex roads, such as hills, mountains, and muddy land. Firstly, a steering mechanism with both differential speed and force was designed to prevent the vehicle from skidding into muddy land and stopping motionless. Secondly, the kinematics model and dynamics model of the two drive shafts and the two output shafts (wheel shafts) were established. Thirdly, according to the relationship between the rotational speed of the two output shafts and the steering radius of the vehicle, the kinematic model of the rotational speed of the two input shafts and the steering radius of the wheel-track composite vehicle was obtained. Finally, according to the test data, the mathematical model of rotational speeds of the two input shafts and the actual steering radius of the vehicle was obtained by neural network fitting, and the maximum relative error between the model results and the actual steering radius value was 3.53%. The combination of power differential steering mechanism and wheel-track composite unmanned vehicle increased the adhesion with the ground and could better adapt to the complex road environment. In conclusion, the unmanned vehicle had the advantages of continuous radius steering, deceleration and torsion increase, differential lock, etc. It was suitable for all-terrain military and civilian vehicles and various special equipment mobile platforms of the walking device, and the research results could provide theoretical references for the steering control and structural optimization of the wheel-track composite vehicle under the environment of complex road surface.

Drafting formations have been long recognized as highly effective for reducing drag and enhancing athletic performance, particularly in race walking events. The precise spacing and positioning of the race walkers are critical to optimizing the effectiveness of drafting. In this study, the drag reduction of 15 drafting formations is investigated using wind-tunnel experiments and CFD numerical simulations. The results show excellent consistency in drag reduction rate between the two methods, with differences being within 10%. This can be attributed to spacing replacing body shape differences as the primary factor influencing drag reduction. Optimal double, triple, and quadruple drafting formations produce the same results in both wind-tunnel experiments and CFD simulation, resulting in drag reductions of 67%, 66%, and 81% (wind-tunnel) and 65%, 72%, and 85% (CFD). The sources of drag differences in the two methods are discussed from various aspects. The flow field obtained through CFD analysis is used to examine the mechanism of drag reduction, revealing that drafting formations have a significant shielding effect on incoming air, which reduces the number and speed of airflow impacting the core race walker. This shielding effect is identified as the primary cause of drag reduction. Using an empirical model for mechanical power output, optimal double, triple, and quadruple drafting formations enhance sport economy (4.4-5.7%), speed (3.61-4.67%), and performance (173.8-223.3s) compared to race walking alone. The findings can serve as a reference for race walkers' positioning strategy and provide insights for considering drafting formations in various running events.

From the wide range of engineering materials traditional Stellite 6 alloy exhibits excellent cavitation erosion (CE) resistance. In this work, the effect of nitrogen ion implantation of HIPed Stellite 6 on the improvement of CE resistance and both cobalt-rich matrix phase transformation due to nitrogen implantation and CE were stated. The CE resistance of stellites ion-implanted by 120 keV N+ ions two fluences: 5x1016 cm-2 and 1x1017 cm-2 were comparatively analysed with the unimplanted stellite and AISI 304 stainless steel. CE tests were conducted according to ASTM G32 with stationary specimen method. Erosion rate curves and mean depth of erosion confirm that the nitrogen implanted HIPed Stellite 6 two times exceeds the resistance to CE than unimplanted stellite, and has almost 10 times higher CE reference than stainless steel. The X-ray diffraction (XRD) confirms that HIPed Stellite 6 nitrogen ion implantation favours transformation of the ɛ(hcp) to γ(fcc) structure. Unimplanted stellite ɛ-rich matirx is less prone to plastic deformation than γ and consequently, increase of γ phase effectively holds carbides in cobalt matrix and prevents Cr7C3 debonding. This phenomenon elongates three times the CE incubation stage, slows erosion rate and mitigates the material loss. Metastable γ structure formed by ion implantation consumes the cavitation load for work-hardening and γ → ɛ martensitic transformation. In further CE stages, phases transform as for unimplanted alloy namely, the cavitation-inducted recovery process, removal of strain, dislocations resulting in increase of fcc phase. The CE mechanism was investigated using a surface profilometer, atomic force microscopy, SEM-EDS and XRD. HIPed Stellite 6 wear behaviour relies on the plastic deformation of cobalt matrix, starting at Cr7C3/matrix interfaces. Once the Cr7C3 losing their restrain, are debonding and removed. Carbides detachment creates cavitation pits which initiate cracks propagation through cobalt matrix, the loss of matrix phase and CE proceeds with a detachment of massive chunk of materials.

This study investigated the fatigue properties and interfacial strengthening mechanisms of Al6061-to-Cu dissimilar welded joints via electromagnetic pulse welding (EMPW). The load-bearing capacity of the joints at discharge voltages of 14 kV and 16 kV was superior to that of 12 kV. Meanwhile, the fatigue life of 14 kV joints was one order of magnitude higher than that of 12 kV. The SEM observation on the fatigue fracture surface shows that the typical “tire-mark” fatigue striation just appeared on the 14 kV joint, indicating higher ductility for handling more extended plastic deformation. The high EBSD acquisition was achieved except for the transition zone due to the formation of ultra-fine nanocrystalline Al2Cu phase and amorphous phase, along with many dislocations. Dense low-angle grain boundaries (LAGBs) and refined grains are formed along the bonding interface. This indicates that severe plastic deformation induced dislocations to form the substructure in such an instant (40-60 μs) during the high-velocity collision. The interfacial strength is not only due to the continuous interfacial diffusion layer with a “wave-like” or “inverted hook-like” pattern but also benefits from refined grains along the interface and in the transition zone, as well as the hybrid amorphous-nanocrystalline microstructure, which strengthens the joint through increasing ductility induced by refined grains and regulating amorphous or nanocrystalline phases to affect the balance between strength and ductility of the Al/Cu joint.

Failure characteristics induced by unloading disturbance and the corresponding mechanical mechanism of the coal seam floor are important theoretical bases for water-bursting prevention from the floor of the coal seam and rock burst alarm in deep mining. However, the existing two-dimensional ground-pressure-control theory based on shallow mining cannot sufficiently guide deep-mining practices. In this study, the redistribution of mining-induced stress field in rocks surrounding the longwall face and mechanical behaviors of strata in deep mining are investigated through a combination of numerical simulation, physical simulation, and field measurement. Results demonstrate that mining-induced stress fields in the floor of the longwall face differ in space and time. Vertical stress unloading from top to bottom of the floor and horizontal stress unloading are relatively low. A concentration zone of high horizontal stress exists at stope boundaries. The critical yield load of rock stratum in the floor is determined through thin plate yield theory. Under the combined effect of concentrated high horizontal and vertical resilience stresses, strata in the floor fracture from seam to seam if the load increases to the minimum critical buckling value. Fractured strata slide along the fracture surface, which leads to floor heave. The stope floor shows evident time-delay progressive failure characteristics. The stress shell in the stope floor in deep mining is found to be a sensitive mechanical parameter that produces three-dimensional ground-pressure behavior in the floor. This ground-pressure behavior in the stope floor is controlled by the existence of the corresponding stress shell and effects induced by its space–time evolution. This study provides theoretical basis for the dynamic control of a hazard-inducing environment in engineering and minimizing or altering disaster-occurrence conditions during the construction engineering of the coal seam floor.

Individual investors often struggle to predict stock prices due to the limitations imposed by the computational capacities of personal laptop Graphics Processing Units (GPUs) when running intensive deep learning models. This study proposes solving these GPU constraints by integrating deep learning models with technical analysis methods. This integration significantly reduces analysis time and equips individual investors with the ability to identify stocks that may yield potential gains or losses in an efficient manner. Thus, a comprehensive buy and sell algorithm, compatible with average laptop GPU performance, is introduced in the study. This algorithm offers a lightweight analysis method that emphasizes factors identified by technical analysis methods, thereby providing a more accessible and efficient approach for individual investors. To evaluate the efficacy of this approach, we analyzed the performance of eight deep learning models: LSTM (4 layers), CNN, BiLSTM (4 layers), CNN Attention, BiGRU CNN BiLSTM Attention, BiLSTM Attention CNN, CNN BiLSTM Attention, and CNN Attention BiLSTM. These models were used to predict stock prices for Samsung Electronics and Celltrion Healthcare. The CNN Attention BiLSTM model displayed superior performance among these models, with the lowest validation mean absolute error value. In addition, an experiment was conducted using WandB Sweep to determine the optimal hyperparameters for four individual hybrid models. These optimal parameters were then implemented in each model to validate their back-testing rate of return. The CNN Attention BiLSTM hybrid model emerged as the highest-performing model, achieving an approximate rate of return of 5 percent. Overall, this study offers valuable insights into the performance of various deep learning and hybrid models in predicting stock prices. These findings can assist individual investors in selecting appropriate models that align with their investment strategies, thereby increasing their likelihood of success in the stock market.

In-depth insights into the profound impacts of climate change and human activities on water resources are garnered through the dynamic changes in surface water, a crucial aspect of effective water resource management and the preservation of aquatic ecosystems. This paper introduces an innovative approach employing the random forest algorithm for the systematic extraction and monitoring of surface water at large regional or national scales. This method integrates spectral bands, spectral indices, and digital elevation model data, offering a novel perspective on this critical task. A data filling model is proposed to mitigate the impact of missing data due to cloud cover. Leveraging the capabilities of the Google Earth Engine (GEE), detailed information on surface water dynamics during the rainy and dry seasons in the Yangtze River Basin (YRB) from 1991 to 2021 is extracted using Landsat time series imagery. The analysis encompasses spatial-temporal variation characteristics and trends, with a specific focus on the intricate interplay between the areal extent of surface water and hydro-meteorological factors in each sub-basin of the YRB. Importantly, this includes considerations of potential groundwater contributions to surface water. Key findings from our research include: (1) Achieving a remarkable overall accuracy of 0.96 ± 0.03 in obtaining reliable surface water datasets with the support of GEE. (2) Identifying significant trends, such as a noteworthy increase in rainy season surface water bodies (+248.0 km2·yr−1) and a concerning decrease in surface ice/snow cover during both rainy and dry seasons, with change rates of −39.7 km2·yr−1 and −651.3 km2·yr−1, respectively. (3) Uncovering the driving mechanisms behind these changes, revealing positive correlations between the areal extent of rainy season surface water bodies and precipitation, as well as negative correlations between surface ice/snow cover area and average surface skin temperature. It is crucial to note that these driving factors exhibit variation among secondary river systems, underscoring the complexity of surface water dynamics. Furthermore, comparative analyses with existing surface water products are conducted, contributing to a deeper understanding of the advantages and uncertainties inherent in our proposed extraction method. The proposed method for large-scale surface water extraction not only enhances the monitoring of spatio-temporal surface water dynamics in the YRB but also provides valuable insights for the sustainable utilization and protection of water resources, considering the potential role of groundwater in supplementing surface water.

Diamond-like carbon (DLC) films have a promising tribological application in green precision manufacturing, but their toughness represents a serious issue in the way of their application perspective. The film thickness is on the micrometer scale and makes conventional methods unsuitable for its toughness characterization. The absence of an accepted method for characterizing the DLC toughness has hindered the related research on the development of toughening methods and understanding the mechanism. This work intends to explore a relatively simple and acceptable characterization method to measure the film toughness. Moreover, toughening mechanisms of DLC films are proposed during the characterization to reveal the toughening mechanism. The toughness can be fully characterized through combining impact toughness and scratch toughness. The impact toughness can be obtained by observing the size of the indentation and the crack state around the indentation in the impact experiment. The scratch toughness could be assessed by combining the scratch morphology and Crack Propagation Resistance (CPRS). The improvement of film toughness should be carried out from two aspects: preventing microcrack initiation and suppressing crack propagation. Appropriate doping of non-carbide metal particles can effectively improve the toughness of the film, and there are seven main factors affecting the toughening of the film. Five toughening mechanisms of non-carbide metals from film preparation to test stage are revealed during the investigation of the change patterns.

Current lines of research into mood disorders indicate that immune mediators participating in the pathophysiology of chronic somatic disorders have potent influences on brain functions, even when these mediators are produced in peripheral tissues. Elevated levels of circulating immune molecules have been consistently associated with depressive symptoms in a number of clinical populations and experimental models, to the extent that major depressive disorder (MDD) is now seen, at least in part, as a disorder of immunity. This paradigm has brought to the fore the use of anti-inflammatory therapies as adjunctive to standard antidepressant therapy with the hope to improve treatment efficacy, particularly in those cohorts that do not respond well to standard medication. Such new practice requires the availability of biomarkers to tailor these new therapies to those most likely to benefit but also clear mechanisms of action describing the interaction between peripheral immunity and brain function. These mechanisms are generally studied in preclinical models that try to recapitulate the human disease through peripherally induced sickness behaviour as the model for immune-induced MDD. After an appraisal of the data in rodent models and their adherence to the data in clinical cohorts, we propose a modified model of periphery-brain interaction that goes beyond the currently established view of interaction between peripheral cytokines and microglia cells as the driver of depression. Instead, we suggest that brain barriers are primary actors in the communication between body and brain and, as a consequence, in the pathophysiology of the disease. This model suggests novel biomarkers, novel targets for therapies as well as a novel mechanism for resistance to standard treatments.

In recent times, models like the Transformer have showcased remarkable prowess in tasks related to natural language processing. However, these models tend to be excessively intricate and demand extensive training. Additionally, while the multi-head self-attention mechanism in the Transformer model aims to capture semantic connections between words in a sequence, it encounters limitations when handling short sequences, thereby limiting its effectiveness in 5-polarity Arabic sentiment analysis tasks. The switch-transformer model has recently emerged as a high-performing alternative. Nevertheless, when these models are trained using single-task learning, they often fall short of achieving exceptional performance and struggle to generate robust latent feature representations, especially when working with compact datasets. This challenge is particularly pronounced in the case of the Arabic dialect, which is considered a low-resource language. Given these constraints, this research introduces a novel approach to sentiment analysis in Arabic text. This method leverages multitask learning in tandem with the switch-transformer shared encoder to enhance model adaptability and refine sentence representation. By introducing a mixture of expert (MoE) mechanism that break down the problem into smaller, more manageable sub-problems, the model becomes adept at handling lengthy sequences and intricate input-output relationships, benefiting both five-point and three-polarity Arabic sentiment analysis tasks. This proposed model effectively discerns sentiment in Arabic dialect sentences. The empirical results highlight the outstanding performance of the suggested model, as evidenced in evaluations on the Hotel Arabic-Reviews Dataset, the Book Reviews Arabic Dataset, and the LARB dataset.

The idea of CUAD (contact unmodified antisense DNA) biotechnology and the use of oligonucleotide insecticides (briefly, olinscides, or DNA insecticides) was proposed on lepidopterans and gradually disseminated on hemipteran pests. As the next-generation platform for creation of insecticides, it has a number of unique characteristics (short unmodified antisense DNA as contact insecticide, insect rRNAs as target, DNA containment as mechanism of action) that distinguish it from existing classes of chemical insecticides. Oligonucleotide insecticides possess low carbon footprint, high safety for non-target organisms, rapid biodegradability, avoidance of target-site resistance, ensuring prosperity for agricultural countries that will implement this innovation. As the next-generation class of insecticides olinscides create opportunities that have never existed before in crop protection. Using flexible CUAD platform, any farmer, botanical garden or pest control company is capable of creating its own unique arsenal of insecticides, well-tailored for a particular population of insect pest. Most technological innovations start out very expensive and don't work well, but eventually start working well and become very cheap. CUAD biotechnology has come a long way for 16 years and is very close to the point to be implemented on a large scale against certain groups of pests. In this article we provide basic knowledge of use of oligonucleotide pesticides and list pests (mainly from suborder Sternorrhyncha, Hemiptera) which were successfully controlled by us recently.

Biomedical large language models (LLMs) have made significant strides, but their reliance on external retrieval mechanisms presents challenges in accuracy and computational efficiency. To address these issues, we propose MedRAG-Refine, a generative LLM designed specifically for the biomedical domain. Our model integrates a two-stage fine-tuning process, incorporating a self-reflection mechanism to improve reasoning quality. We evaluate our model on MedQA, MedMCQA, and MMLU datasets, demonstrating superior performance over state-of-the-art methods. Additionally, human evaluations confirm the enhanced accuracy and reasoning quality of our model in real-world medical tasks.

The demand for precise indoor localization services is steadily increasing. Among various methods, fingerprint-based indoor localization has become a popular choice due to its exceptional accuracy, cost-effectiveness, and ease of implementation. However, its performance degrades significantly as a result of multipath signal attenuation and environmental changes. In this paper, we propose an indoor localization method based on fingerprints using self-attention and long short-term memory (LSTM). By integrating a self-attention mechanism and LSTM network, the proposed method exhibits outstanding positioning accuracy and robustness in diverse experimental environments. The performance of the proposed method is evaluated under two different experimental scenarios, which involve 2D and 3D moving trajectories, respectively. The experimental results demonstrate that our approach achieves an average localization error of 1.76 m and 2.83 m in the respective scenarios, outperforming the existing state-of-the-art methods by 42.67% and 31.64%.

Animal trypanosomiasis (AT) is a complex of veterinary diseases known under various names such as nagana, surra, dourine and mal de caderas, depending on the country, the infecting trypanosome species and the host. AT is caused by parasites of the genus Trypanosoma, and the main species infecting domesticated animals are T. brucei brucei, T. b. rhodesiense, T. congolense, T. vivax, T. evansi and T. equiperdum. AT transmission, again depending on species, is through tsetse flies or common Stomoxys and tabanid flies or through copulation. Therefore, the geographical spread of all forms of AT together is not restricted to the habitat of a single vector like the tsetse fly and currently includes almost all of Africa, and most of South America and Asia. The disease is a threat to millions of companion and farm animals in these regions, creating a financial burden in the billions of dollars to developing economies as well as serious impacts on livestock rearing and food production. Despite the scale of these impacts, control of AT is neglected and under-resourced, with diagnosis and treatments being woefully inadequate and not improving for decades. As a result, neither the incidence of the disease, nor the effectiveness of treatment is documented in most endemic countries, although it is clear that there are serious issues of resistance to the few old drugs that are available. In this review we particularly look at the drugs, their application to the various forms of AT, and their mechanisms of action and resistance. We also discuss the spread of veterinary trypanocide resistance and its drivers, and highlight current and future strategies to combat it.

Underwater image processing faces significant challenges due to the absorption and scattering of light as it travels through water. A self-supervised learning network based on the self-attention mechanism is proposed for underwater visual applications in this paper. The goal is to improve the effectiveness and stability of feature extraction from underwater images. By incorporating self-attention mechanism, the sensitivity of the original network architecture to degraded features of blurred underwater images is enhanced. The network proposed in this paper is trained using transfer learning and evaluated on various underwater image datasets. With distributive, quantitative, and qualitative advantages compared with other methods, experimental results have demonstrated that the algorithm presented shows a slighter decline in feature extraction ability for blurred images as the turbidity of water increases.

Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) is an active sensor that uses microwave for sense, it is unrestricted by weather and illumination conditions, and it can observe targets all day and weather. Aircraft targets are important monitoring objects in military and civilian fields, and how to efficiently detect and recognize aircraft targets is an important topic in the field of SAR image interpretation. Based on the features of SAR images, such as complex background, high resolution, and multi-scale, we proposed an improved method based on YOLOv5s. Firstly, this paper proposed the structure of the multi-scale receptive field and channel attention fusion, which is applied to the shallow layer of the backbone of YOLOv5s, it can adjust the weights of the multi-scale receptive field during the training process to enhance the extraction ability of feature information. Secondly, we proposed four de-coupled detection heads to replace the original part in YOLOv5s, which can improve the efficiency and accuracy of SAR image interpretation for small targets. Thirdly, in the case of the limited amount of SAR images, this paper proposed multi methods of data augmentation, which can enhance the diversity and generalization of the network. Fourthly, this paper proposed the K-means++ to re-place the original K-means to improve the network convergence speed and detection accuracy. Finally, Experiments demonstrate that the improved YOLOv5s can enhance the accuracy of SAR image interpretation by 9.3%, and the accuracy of small targets is improved more obviously, reaching 13.1%.

Compressed Sensing (CS) MRI has shown great potential in enhancing time efficiency. Deep learning techniques, specifically Generative Adversarial Networks (GANs), have emerged as potent tools for speedy CS-MRI reconstruction. Yet, as the complexity of deep learning recon-struction models increases, this can lead to prolonged reconstruction time and challenges in achieving convergence. In this study we present a novel GAN-based model that delivers superior performance without escalating model complexity. Our generator module, built on the U-net architecture, incorporates dilated residual (DR) networks, thus expanding the network's receptive field without increasing parameters or computational load. At every step of the downsampling path, this revamped generator module includes a DR network, with the dilation rates adjusted according to the depth of the network layer. Moreover, we have introduced a channel attention mechanism (CAM) to distinguish between channels and reduce background noise, thereby fo-cusing on key information. This mechanism adeptly combines global maximum and average pooling approaches to refine channel attention. We conducted comprehensive experiments with the designed model using public domain MRI datasets of the human brain. Ablation studies af-firmed the efficacy of the modified modules within the network. Compared to other relevant models, our proposed model exhibits exceptional performance, achieving not only excellent sta-bility but also outperforming other networks in terms of Peak Signal-to-Noise Ratio (PSNR) and Structural Similarity Index (SSIM). The model presents a promising pathway for enhancing the efficiency and quality of CS-MRI reconstruction.

In the new period, the state has made every effort to promote the new urbanization of public sports service. Entropy method, coupled coordination model, cold hot spot analysis is used to explore the dynamic relationship between public sports services and the development of new urbanization in China from 2008 to 2017. The results show that: (1) The development of the internal subsystem of public sports service is not balanced, the sports financial investment system grows rapidly, but the development of professional sports talent team is slow. (2) The imbalance of regional development cannot be ignored, and the public sports service level shows a decreasing gradient from east to west. (3) The regional development features are different. The eastern region is dominated by the coordinated development of sports public service and urbanization, while the central region is mainly in the type of public sports service lag, while the western region has multiple complex characteristics of low-level coordination and public sports service lag. Therefore, it is proposed that the construction of modern public sports service system should be investigated in the context of the development of new urbanization. It should be promoted from the following aspects: promoting the extension of public sports service to rural areas, engendering the "citizen's right" of sports health to the migrant population, conforming to the trend of mass sports intelligence, developing green sports and revitalizing idle sports assets in cities.

A theoretical description of quantum jumps at the level of elementary particles is proposed, based on a micro-cosmological interpretation of their de Broglie phase. The third quantization formalism proposed in current literature for the description of baby universes in quantum cosmology is used here to describe the breakdown of unitarity in the transition from the pre-jump to the post-jump wave function. The corpuscular aspect manifested by the particle in the micro-interaction that originates the jump is represented by a pair of evanescent "micro-universes", respectively pre- and post-jump, connected by a wormhole. The latter represents the actual implementation of the interaction that leads to the projection on the outgoing state; this interaction is always local, even when the selected outgoing state is entangled. Therefore, the decoherence which leads to the emergence of classicality is originated by the same fundamental interactions of the Standard Model involved in the unitary evolution of the wave function. The objective nature of the reduction process admits implications on the possibility of using the formalism in the cosmological context, which are briefly discussed.

Essential Tremor (ET) is among the most common neurological movement disorders, with incidence rates increasing with age. The disorder is characterized by a bilateral action tremor of the upper limbs, enduring for a minimum of three years in duration, and shows early signs of onset with progression over time. Recent terminology has categorized a subcategory of ET, known as Essential-Tremor Plus (ET-Plus), which consists of a combination of symptoms that include tremors at rest and additional neurological signs. This includes memory impairment, gait disturbances, or various other neurological symptoms that do not have full clinical significance for diagnosis and suggest a more complex underlying neurological condition. Abnormalities located primarily in the cerebellum, including the loss and damage to Purkinje Cells (PC), were core pathological features of cerebellar damage in postmortem ET. Given the complexity and uncertainty of the pathophysiological aspects of tremor generation, treatment options are still limited, and current therapeutic measures lack the capacity to fully alleviate symptoms. In consideration, there are current pharmaceutical, stimulation, and genetic studies being conducted to characterize the etiology and pathophysiology of ET and aid in the reduction of progression and symptoms. In this review, we will discuss various aspects of ET including neurophysiology, pathophysiology, genetic factors and etiology, treatment options and future directions of advancements for ET management.

Euphorbia ingens is traditionally used to treat and manage cancer in Ambeere community of Embu County in Kenya. Whilst research has demonstrated the bioactivities of E. ingens including antimicrobial, antitubercular and antifungal activities, scientific validation of its anticancer properties is limited. This study evaluated the antiproliferative potentials of E. ingens on human prostate cancer cell line (DU-145). The 3-[4,5-dimethylthiazol-2-yl]-2,5-diphenyltetrazolium bromide assay was used to assess the antiproliferative activity, chemical constituents were analysed by qualitative colour method and Gas Chromatography-Mass Spectrometry analysis. At the same time, the investigation of putative molecular targets and mechanisms of action of E. ingens was done through network pharmacological analysis. Reverse transcription-quantitative polymerase chain reaction (RT-qPCR) was carried out to validate the network predictions of putative targets. Our result showed E. ingens ethyl acetate inhibited DU-145 growth (IC50 of 9.71 ± 0.4 µg/ml) with a high selectivity index of 8.26. There was the presence of phenols, terpenoids, flavonoids, tannins, sterols, and saponins; additional 18 compounds were identified by the GC-MS approach. ESR1, IL6, MMP9, CDK2, MAP2K1, AR, PRKCD, CDK1, CDC25B, and JAK2 were indicated as key targets of E. ingens against prostate cancer with the PI3K-AKT, MAPK, and p53 signalling pathways identified as the most probable mechanisms of action. There was significant downregulation of AR and BCL2, and upregulation of p53 and caspase-3 in E. ingens-treated DU-145 cells compared to 0.2 % DMSO negative control. Our results suggest that E. ingens has phytochemical compounds efficacious at inhibiting the proliferation of DU-145 cells; therefore, the plant can be considered a potential source of compounds that may be used to manage and treat prostate cancer; however, further in vivo evaluations are needed.

Predatory research field in science is when an emerging scientific topic destroys current topics and characterizes a main scientific change. Predatory research field can be a basic driver of scientific and technological change that generates a 'creative destruction' in science and society in contexts of knowledge-based competition and rapid changes. The prediction of proposed theory of predatory research fields is that it destroys with a fast growth other research fields. The theoretical approach is tested here in research fields of large language models (LLM) by analyzing the transformers (a deep learning architecture based on the multi-head attention mechanism) proposed in 2017 and from November 2022 started main applications in generative artificial intelligence with innovations of BERT, ChatGPT, Microsoft Copilot (launched on February 7, 2023) and other natural language processing tools driven by AI technology for engaging conversations, gain insights, automate tasks, etc., etc. Statistical evidence suggests that growth rate of transformer technologies is 80.58%, a high level compared to all other research fields in machine learning (having a growth rate of 13.83%). Moreover, predatory research field of transformers has a destructive power such that all other domains in LLM from 2021 to 2023 have a general reduction of scientific growth. The impact of transformers is much more drastic of previous radical technologies such as CNN having a temporal growth rate of 0.16%, lower than 0.38% by transformers, ceteris paribus. These analysis reveals that transformers have characteristics to generate a radical scientific and technological change in a not-too-distant future. Overall, then, the study suggests that predatory research field on emerging topics and technologies can generate path-breaking innovations and the examination here can clarify the essential elements of the science dynamics for a better theory of scientific and technological change, providing also main implications for knowledge policy to support promising research fields and technologies to guide economic and social change.

Plants of the genus Monochoria have long been utilized in food, cosmetics, and traditional herbal treatment. Thailand has the highest species diversity of this genus and a new member, Monochoria angustifolia (G. X. Wang) Boonkerd & Tungmunnithum has been recently described. This plant is called “Siam Violet Pearl” as a common name or “ไข่มุกสีม่วงแห่งสยาม” as its vernacular name in the same meaning in Thai language. Despite their importance, few researches on Monochoria species have been conducted. This study, thus, provided the results to fill in this gap by: i) determining flavonoids phytochemical profiles of 25 natural populations of M. angustifolia covering the whole floristic regions in Thailand, and ii) determining antioxidant activity using various antioxidant assays to investigate the probable mechanism. The results revealed that M. angustifolia presented a higher flavonoid content than the outgroup, M. hastata. Our results also revealed that flavonoids might be used to investigate Monochoria evolutionary connections and for botanical authentication. The various antioxidant assays revealed that M. angustifolia extracts preferentially act through a hydrogen atom transfer antioxidant mechanism. Pearson correlation analysis indicated significant correlations emphasizing that the antioxidant capacity is most probably the result of a complex phytochemical combinations rather than of a single molecule. Altogether, these results showed that this new species provide an attractive alternative starting material with phytochemical variety and antioxidant potential for the phytopharmaceutical industry.

As the first pilot ecological civilization zone in China, Fujian Province has an excellent ecological environment quality, and its ecological environment-related indices continue to be among the highest in the country. In order to investigate the causes of the excellent ecological quality in Fujian Province in the past 15 years, this paper selects MODIS images, land use data and provincial and municipal statistical yearbook data of Fujian province from 2005 to 2020 as data sources, evaluates the ecological system health of Fujian Province by remote-sensing ecological index (i.e. RSEI), constructs the land use intensity system of Fujian Province at the same time, and uses a coupled coordination model to analyze the coupling between RSEI and The coupled coordination model was used to analyze the coupling relationship between RSEI and land use intensity, and finally the spatial and temporal evolution of ecological health in Fujian Province from 2005 to 2020 was analyzed. The results show that the coupled coordination between land use intensity and ecosystem health in Fujian province showed a continuous increase between 2005 and 2020, especially in Ningde, where the increase was most significant, from 0.0993 to 0.963, this pattern of spatial distribution is lower in the south-eastern coastal region than in the north-western interior, higher in the south-western region than in the north-western region, and higher in the north-eastern region than in the south-eastern region. In terms of the type of role, the land use intensity of most cities in Fujian Province in 2005 played an obvious role in blocking the degree of ecosystem health, but as time changed, urban land use continued to be optimized and reached moderate or even high quality coordination with the quality of the ecological environment, but Xiamen City developed relatively slowly and its 2020 coupling degree value was 0.315, which was still in mild disorder. This study fills a gap in the research mechanism of the interaction between the degree of ecosystem health and land use intensity, and also provides a new perspective for the construction of ecological civilization and the assessment of the degree of ecosystem health in Fujian Province and the whole country.

The insufficient flexibility of the hybrid renewable integrated energy system (HRIES) makes it difficult to accommodate renewable energy with a high proportion. It is thus necessary to excavate its potential flexibility to improve its operational performance and consume renewable energy. This paper unlocks the adjustment potential of flexible buildings and builds a flexible thermal load regulation model according to the dynamic thermal characteristics and thermal comfort elastic interval of the buildings and a regulation model of the flexible electrical load based on its transferability, resectability, and rigidity. An operation optimization model, which incorporates multiple flexible load regulations and the variable load of devices, is then developed. A case study is presented to analyze the regulation and synergy mechanism in different types of flexible loads. Its results show a saturation effect between the flexible thermal and electrical loads in increasing renewable energy consumption and a synergy effect in decreasing the total cost. This synergy can reduce the total cost by 0.73%. Besides, the total cost can be reduced by 15.13%, and the renewable energy curtailment rate can decrease by 12.08% if the flexible electric and thermal loads are integrated into the operation optimization of HRIES.

Heart failure (HF) is a syndrome characterized by signs and symptoms resulting from structural or functional cardiac abnormalities, confirmed by elevated natriuretic peptides or evidence of congestion. HF patients are classified according to left ventricular ejection fraction (LVEF). Worsening HF (WHF) is associated with increased short- and long-term mortality, re-hospitalization, and healthcare costs. Standard treatment of HF includes angioten-sin-converting enzyme inhibitors, angiotensin receptor-neprilysin inhibitors, mineralocorti-coid-receptor antagonists, beta-blockers, and sodium-glucose co-transporter 2 inhibitors. To manage systolic HF by reducing mortality and hospitalizations in patients experiencing WHF, treatment with vericiguat, a direct stimulator of soluble guanylate cyclase (sGC), is indicated. This drug acts by stimulating sGC enzymes, part of the nitric oxide (NO)-sGC-cyclic guanosine monophosphate (cGMP) signaling pathway, regulating the cardiovascular system by catalyzing cGMP synthesis in response to NO. cGMP acts as a second messenger, triggering various cellular effects. Deficiencies in cGMP production, often due to low NO availability, are implicated in cardiovascular diseases. Vericiguat stimulates sGC directly, bypassing the need for a functional NO-sGC-cGMP axis, thus preventing myocardial and vascular dysfunction associated with de-creased sGC activity in heart failure. Approved by the FDA in 2021, vericiguat administration should be considered, in addition to the four pillars of HFrEF therapy, in symptomatic patients with LVEF < 45% following a worsening event. Cardiac rehabilitation represents an ideal setting where there is more time to implement therapy with vericiguat and incorporate a greater num-ber of medications for the management of these patients. This review covers vericiguat's metab-olism, molecular mechanisms, and drug-drug interactions.

An innovative superconducting mechanism was developed based on a patented discovery of room temperature superconductivity in several thorium (Th) salts or compounds. The rationale behind this discovery is through the experimental results about the unique electrical and magnetic properties of these Th salts. Accordingly, this new superconducting mechanism for these Th salts was obtained through the analyses of the compounds’ molecular configurations and the packings of their relevant crystal structures. Owing to the distinctive properties of the Th compounds in this discovery, we further established a different electron pairing scheme as opposed to the pairing of the Cooper pairs. Compared to the long distance electron pairing of the Cooper pairs, the new electron pairing in our mechanism is constructed by two closely correlated electrons that reside on the same atomic orbital of the Th cation as an electron lone pair. In this new superconducting mechanism, the Th cation is sitting on a relevant crystallographic lattice arrangement or a network of the relevant Th compounds. This network is constructed by many Th cations along certain crystallographic lattice arrangement where each Th cation contains one electron lone pair. This network allows the electron lone pairs on the Th cations to be delocalized over the network, “in pair”, and thus, reveals the electron lone pair in presence in a long distance fashion. The closely correlated electron lone pairs hop on this network and thus, construct the supercurrent over the network. This explanation about the superconductivity laid the basis for our superconducting mechanism. All these conclusions came from the previous studies about these compounds that illustrated their unusual features of a coexistence of high electrical conductivity and diamagnetism. These electrical and magnetic properties fall in line with that of superconductors but, surprisingly, these Th compounds have such properties at the ambient condition, meaning under room temperature and atmosphere pressure. We expect that this mechanism may be appropriate to be utilized to other superconducting cases, either conventional or unconventional, and therefore, can be adapted to describe the superconducting phenomenon for other superconductors.

The cyber physical systems of smart cities are facing increasingly severe attack situations, and traditional separate protection methods are difficult to effectively respond to. It is urgent to coordinate public security and network security protection. However, the integration of the two faces many challenges and is a very promising research field. The aim of this study is to investigate technical approaches for the synergy between public safety and cyber security. This paper proposes a smart city safety protection model inspired by the human immune mechanism. It was found that through a three line defense architecture similar to the human immune mechanism, and with the help of certain algorithms and functional middleware modules, public security and network security protection components can be dynamically combined to achieve collaboration. This work has verified through experiments a promising path to effectively resist complicated attack threats intertwined with public safety and cyber security factors.

An event-based dynamic output feedback control (DOFC) strategy for unmanned marine vehicle (UMV) systems is concerned. The whole UMV systems are composed of an UMV closed-loop system, a land-based control unit and the communication network. To increase the effectiveness of data transmission in the network channel and better enable the control unit against attack, an adaptive event-triggered mechanism (AETM) is applied. Moreover, a quantizer is installed between the sampler and the control unit. The quantizer further reduces the communication burden. The occurrence of aperiodic denial-of-service (DoS) attack is considered in the channel from the control unit to the UMV system. Sufficient criterion for ensuring global exponential stability of system with an expected H∞ disturbance attenuation index is obtained. Co-design of the dynamic output feedback controller and the AETM is derived. The effectiveness of the proposed approach is verified in the given illustrative simulation. The simulation results indicate that the reduction percentages of yaw angle amplitudes and yaw velocity accumulative error of the UMV system with the control strategy proposed in this paper are 43.2%and 45.9%, respectively, which are 0.3% and 5.8% improvement in both metrics compared to the previously published work.

Ship detection in large-scene offshore synthetic aperture radar (SAR) images is crucial in civil and military fields, such as maritime management and wartime reconnaissance. However, the problems of low detection rates, high false alarm rates, and high missed detection rates of offshore ship targets in large-scene SAR images are due to the occlusion of objects or mutual occlusion among targets, especially for small ship targets. To solve this problem, this study proposes a target detection model (TAC_CSAC_Net) that incorporates a multi-attention mechanism for detecting marine vessels in large-scene SAR images. Experiments were conducted on two public datasets, the SAR-Ship-Dataset and high-resolution SAR image dataset (HRSID), with multi-scene and multi-size, and the results showed that the proposed TAC_CSAC_Net model achieves good performance for both small and occluded target detection. Experiments were conducted on a real large-scene dataset, LS-SSDD, to obtain the detection results of subgraphs of the same scene. Quantitative comparisons were made with classical and recently developed deep learning models, and the experiments demonstrated that the proposed model outperformed other models for large-scene SAR image target detection.

Dialogue State Tracking is an essential component in multi-domain dialogue systems, aiming to accurately determine the current dialogue state based on the dialogue history. Existing research has addressed the issue of multiple mappings in dialogues by employing slot self-attention as a data-driven approach. However, learning the relationships between slots from a single sample has limitations and introduces noise. In this paper, we propose an External Slot Relation Memory-based Dialogue State Tracking model (ER-DST). By utilizing an external memory storage, we learn the relationships between slots as a dictionary of multi-domain slot relations. Additionally, we employ a small filter to discard slot information irrelevant to the current dialogue state. Experimental results on the MultiWOZ2.0 and MultiWOZ2.1 benchmarks demonstrate significant improvements while reducing the time complexity to O(n).

Species diversity has been shown to be influenced by environmental factors, but the mechanism underlying their relationship remains unclear across spatial scales. Based on field investigation data collected from 3,077 sample plots in temperate forest ecosystems, we compared tree species richness, evenness and dominance at 10 km × 10 km, 30 km × 30 km and 90 km × 90 km spatial scales. Then, we detected the scale dependence of changes in tree species composition on climate, topography and forest structure using variation partitioning and quantified their contribution to tree diversity with gradient boosted models (GBMs) and fitted their relationships. The magnitude of tree richness, evenness and dominance significantly increased with spatial scale. Ecological factors jointly accounted for 24.3%, 26.5% and 38.5% of the variation in tree species composition at the three spatial scales, respectively. Annual mean temperature had a strong impact on tree richness, evenness and dominance and peaked at an intermediate scale. Tree evenness and dominance increased with the variation of temperature but had upper and lower limits. Tree richness obviously increased with annual precipitation on multiple scales and decreased with annual sunshine duration at large spatial scale. Tree richness, evenness and dominance obviously increased with the variation elevation and diameter at breast height at large scales and small scales, respectively. Tree dominance decreased with tree height in a hump at small scale. The dependence of tree diversity on ecological factors increased with spatial scales. Furthermore, different factors exert various controls on tree diversity at different spatial scales, representing a comprehensive mechanism regulating tree diversity.

Although the APOBEC3 family of single-stranded DNA cytosine deaminases are well-known as antiviral factors, these enzymes are rapidly gaining attention as prominent sources of mutation in cancer. APOBEC3 signature single base substitutions, C-to-T and C-to-G in TCA and TCT motifs, are evident in over 70% of human malignancies and dominate the mutational landscape of numerous individual tumors. Recent murine studies have established cause-and-effect relationships, with both human APOBEC3A and APOBEC3B proving capable of promoting tumor formation in vivo. Here, we investigate the molecular mechanism of APOBEC3A-driven tumor development using the murine Fah liver complementation and regeneration system. First, we show that APOBEC3A alone is capable of driving tumor development (without Tp53 knockdown as in prior studies). Second, we show that the catalytic glutamic acid residue of APOBEC3A (E72) is required for tumor formation. Third, we show that an APOBEC3A separation-of-function mutant with compromised DNA deamination activity and wildtype RNA editing activity is defective in promoting tumor formation. Collectively, these results indicate that APOBEC3A is a “master driver” that fuels tumor formation through a DNA deamination-dependent mechanism.

The object detection task is usually affected by complex backgrounds. In this paper, a new image object detection method is proposed, which can perform multi-feature selection on multi-scale feature maps. By this method, a bidirectional multi-scale feature fusion network is designed to fuse semantic features and shallow features to improve the detection effect of small objects in complex backgrounds. When the shallow features are transferred to the top layer, a bottom-up path is added to reduce the number of network layers experienced by the feature fusion network, reducing the loss of shallow features. In addition, a multi-feature selection module based on the attention mechanism is used to minimize the interference of useless information on subsequent classification and regression, allowing the network to adaptively focus on appropriate information for classification or regression to improve detection accuracy. Because the traditional five-parameter regression method has severe boundary problems when predicting objects with large aspect ratios, the proposed network treats angle prediction as a classification task. The experimental results on the DOTA dataset, the self-made DOTA-GF dataset and the HRSC 2016 dataset show that, compared with several popular object detection algorithms, the proposed method has certain advantages in detection accuracy.

RNA interference (RNAi) has become a widely utilised method to study gene function, yet despite this, many of the mechanisms surrounding RNAi remain elusive. The core RNAi machinery is relatively well understood, however many of the systemic mechanisms, particularly double stranded RNA (dsRNA) transport, are not. Here, we demonstrate that dsRNA binding proteins in the serum contribute to systemic RNAi, and may be the limiting factor in RNAi capacity for species such as spiny lobsters where gene silencing is not functional. Incubating serum from a variety of species across phyla with dsRNA led to a gel mobility shift in species where systemic RNAi has been observed, with this response being absent in species where systemic RNAi has never been observed. Proteomic analysis suggested lipoproteins may be responsible for this phenomenon, and may transport dsRNA to spread the RNAi signal systemically. Following this, we identified the same gel shift in the slipper lobster Thenus australiensis and subsequently silenced the insulin androgenic gland hormone, marking the first time RNAi has been performed in any lobster species. These results pave the way for inducing RNAi in spiny lobsters, and better understanding the mechanisms of systemic RNAi in Crustacea, as well as across phyla.

In the present work, the charged dark matters of B1, B2 and B3 bastons are explained as the right-handed partners of the left-handed neutrinos. The new Higgs mechanism of SU(2)_DM×SU(2)_Weak×SU(2)_Strong including electromagnetic and gravitational forces is applied. And the rest masses of the elementary particles depend on their charge configurations. The left-handed neutrinos have only the lepton charges (LC) and the right-handed dark matters have only the electric charges (EC). This explains the fact that the rest masses of the left-handed neutrinos are so small, and the rest masses of the right-handed dark matters are relatively very large. The proposed rest mass (26.12 eV/c²) of the B1 dark matter is indirectly confirmed from the supernova 1987A data. The missing neutrinos are newly explained by using the dark matters and lepton charge force. The neutrino excess anomaly of the MinibooNE data is explained by the B1 dark matter scattering within the Cherenkov detectors. The quark mixing and neutrino mixing are not required in the present model. It is shown that our matter universe and its partner antimatter universe can be created from the big bang in the point of view of time -, charge -, space -, and quantum state – symmetric universe evolution.

Recent times have witnessed an increasing number of countries and private firms pledging carbon neutrality by mid-century. Whilst representing a significant improvement in intentions to tackle climate change, such pledges lack substance and structure. For instance, individual pledges lack coordination and aggregation among peers, while strategies and measures to achieve ambitious targets are largely absent. Moreover, current disagreements obstructing progress in international climate change negotiations further undermine the reliability of carbon neutrality objectives. Effective international policies are needed to foster aggregate mitigation ambitions and the creation of adequate supporting mechanisms. This theoretical paper describes a governance innovation aimed at overcoming such shortfalls and disagreements through a unifying yet customizable pathway towards carbon neutrality. It does so by first outlining a political governance framework based on a climate club interpretation of Article 6 of the Paris Agreement. Secondly, it proposes carbon emission mitigation effort sharing on a per capita basis to ensure efficiency, equity and political feasibility. Thirdly, this paper describes how the supply of certified mitigations of carbon emissions required to satisfy effort sharing-based demand can be assetized as carbon credits by operationalizing Article 6 as a joint certification mechanism. The resulting governance architecture for managing demand and supply of mitigations shifts efforts to tackle climate change from a ‘problem-driven’ cost approach to ‘opportunity-driven’ value creation pathways towards carbon neutrality.

Concern over potential antimony mediated toxicity from mining and smelting activities has instigated novel concepts toward removing aqueous antimony ions. The iron based adsorbent Fe3O4/HCO was found to be efficient for treating antimony-containing wastewater However, ineffective methodology for preparation limited its effective adsorption capacity and thus wider application. In this study, a new type of HCO-doped-(Fe3O4)x adsorbent was prepared by co-precipitation method for doping Fe3O4 into HCO sludge (HCO), thereby improving adsorption performance for Sb(III) and Sb(V) ions, with the maximum adsorbing capacity being 44.46 mg/g and 47.91 mg/g, respectively. According to the results of BET, SEM-EDS, XRD and XPS, it were confirmed that the FeOOH and X≡Fe-OH were formed during the preparation process, bring about the increased the surface area, thus resulting in further increase of surface area, hydroxyl groups and the net negative ionic charge. Moreover, the adsorption kinetics followed the pseudo-second-order kinetic model which indicated that adsorption process of Sb(III)/Sb(V) by HCO-doped-(Fe3O4)x adsorbent was controlled by chemical reaction. The main adsorption mechanism is that antimony ion and amorphous iron oxide X≡Fe-OH undergo coordination exchange reaction and complexation reaction with CeO2 or Ce2O3. Furthermore, HCO-doped-(Fe3O4)x could adapt to wide pH and had stable adsorption ability after regeneration. The good adsorption performance of HCO-doped-(Fe3O4)x makes it a potential applications of adsorbent for removal of antimony.

As novel materials for carbon capture, phase change solvents can separate into two immiscible phases during the CO2 capturing procedure under a certain temperature. The solvent systems can significantly decrease the energy consumption since the solvents can be regenerated by only heating the rich-CO2 phase. In this work, amino acid ionic liquids (AAILs) were synthesized using quaternary ammonium salts and amino acids as raw materials, and the aqueous solutions were prepared as novel liquid-solid phase change solvents. The results showed that the solvents had excellent CO2 absorption capacity, and the AAILs functionalized by glycine and tryptophan exhibited significant phase change properties. The mechanism of phase-change of the solvent were mainly due to the lower solubility of the product after reaction between AAILs and CO2. The solvent with tryptophan as anion could be regenerated by only heating the CO2-riched solid phase, which might significantly decrease energy consumption of regeneration. And the absorbent could be reused with the regenerated absorption ratio up to 79%. The solvent system has great potential in industrial application due to the easy operation process and efficient recycling ability.

Satellite clock bias (SCB) prediction is a crucial technology for satellite navigation systems, holding significant importance for Global Navigation Satellite System. This paper proposes a deep learning model for SCB prediction based on the fusion of the Beluga Whale Optimization (BWO), Convolutional Neural Network (CNN), Bidirectional Gated Recurrent Unit (BiGRU), and an attention mechanism. The CNN is utilized to extract the spatiotemporal characteristic information from the clock bias sequence, while the BiGRU fully extracts relevant features through forward and backward propagation. The introduction of an attention mechanism aims to preserve essential features within the clock bias sequence to enhance feature extraction by both CNN and BiGRU networks. Additionally, the BWO is employed to optimize parameter selection in order to improve model accuracy. Experimental verification demonstrates that for the BeiDou Navigation Satellite System's (BDS) hydrogen-maser atomic clocks, the predicted clock bias for 6 hours, 3 days, and 15 days are 0.078 ns, 0.475 ns, and 2.130 ns respectively - representing improvements of 31%, 45%, and 66% over CNN-BiGRU-Attention; 6%, 51%, and 56% over CNN-BiGRU; and 32%, 35%, and 73% over BiGRU, respectively.

Drug-induced pruritus triggers a desire to scratch, thereby diminishing one’s quality of life. Certain instances of this phenomenon follow complex mechanisms of action that diverge from histamine-mediated pathways, known contributors to pruritus. However, investigations into the relationship between drugs and pruritus are limited. In this study, data mining techniques were employed to comprehensively analyze the characteristics of drugs linked to pruritus, using the FDA Adverse Event Reporting System(FAERS) Data maintained in the United States. Reports linked to pruritus demonstrated noteworthy differences in gender, age, and weight when compared with non-pruritus cases. Among the leading candidates for drugs prompting pruritus were ophthalmic drugs, systemic antibacterials, contrast media, dermatological antifungals, and dermatological preparations. Principal component analysis showed that the second principal component served as an indicator for distinguishing between onsets at mucous membranes or the skin surface. Additionally, the third principal component functioned as an indicator for categorizing administration methods as either invasive or noninvasive. Furthermore, a hierarchical cluster analysis conducted on these obtained principal components revealed the potential for classifying drugs based on the site of pruritus onset and the method of drug administration. These findings contribute to the development of targeted prevention and treatment strategies for avoiding pruritus in clinical practice.

The importance of the national security of supply has been emphasized in recent years due to the COVID-19 pandemic and changes in operating environments. Thanks to autonomy and resiliency in fuel procurement, organizations with decentralized energy plants may be able to quickly adapt to the changing needs of society. The main aim of this study was to increase the sustainability of a Finnish CHP plant's wood procurement by determining the company's profitable wood procurement region while keeping the forests renewable. The income received from the sale of energy and the costs incurred from the procurement of wood were collected from the ERP system as input data for the developed DSS. The environmental sustainability of wood procurement was assessed by considering the additional costs caused through the EEAP mechanism if the carbon sink of the forest worsened due to wood procurement in the area. The supply chains were compared so that the CHP plant managers could adopt the best energy wood value chains. The results showed that updating the procurement strategy would be necessary. The CHP plant managers should purchase energy wood from a larger procurement area than the current one and focus on roadside purchases of wood. The Techno-Economic Wood Payment Ability Model was a useful part of the DSS to guide wood buyers toward sustainable wood procurement by increasing the share of renewable forests.

The KcsA is a prokaryotic potassium-oriented channel, which is sourced from the Streptomyces lividans soil bacteria. From extensive studies that have been carried over the KcsA potassium channel, it has been proved that various factors enable the gating and shuttling of the potassium ions into and out of the cells. Some of the factors include the different concentration of protons in the inside and outside membrane. The other factor is the existence of the selectivity filter equipped in the exit of channel pore, which enables the movement of the K⁺ ions. Not only are potassium ions present in the channel but also sodium ions. Potassium and sodium ions are the ions that are essential in the conductivity of a cell because of their charge. An intuitive idea about why K⁺ ions are at least 10,000 times more permeant than Na⁺ ions is presented in various entities. The hypothesis is that the selectivity ratio is probably related to the successive entry of Na⁺ ions, based on the premise that the ratio seems to be relevant to unpredictable quantities caused by Brownian corrosion of ions.

The rapid development of new retail and the impact of COVID-19 have catalyzed the blowout growth of community group purchasing. The emergence of community group purchasing collection and delivery points (CGPCDPs) has become a new way to solve the "last mile" problem of new retail delivery. Based on the point of interest (POI) data of CGPCDPs of Nansha District, Guangzhou City, this study uses text analysis, spatial analysis, model analysis, and other methods to analyze the operation mode, spatial distribution, and influencing factors of CGPCDPs. The conclusions are as follows: CGPCDPs initiators are mainly shopkeepers. They depend mainly on wholesale and retail shops. Service targets are mainly urban and rural communities, followed by industrial areas. The distribution of CGPCDPs has apparent spatial differentiation. At the macro scale, it shows the characteristics of "central agglomeration and peripheral dispersion". It is distributed along the "northwest-southeast" direction and presents a "dual-core multi-center" pattern. At meso-micro scale, different built environments in developed areas of cities, villages in the city (ChengZhongCun) and rural areas show distinct distribution patterns. The MGWR regression model has a better fitting effect than OLS and GWR. The main influencing factors are population density, construction land, house price, supporting place, residence density, urban community, and road proximity.

In order to improve real-time performance of gesture recognition by micro-Doppler map of mmWave Radar, the point cloud based gesture recognition for mmWave Radar is proposed in this paper.Two steps are carried out for mmWave Radar based gesture recognition. The first step is to estimate the point cloud of the gestures by 3D-FFT and the peak grouping. The second step is to train the TRANS-CNN model by combining the multi-head self-attention and the 1D-convolutional network, so as to extract the features in the point cloud data at a deeper level to categorize the gestures. In the experiments, TI mmWave Radar sensor IWR1642 is used as benchmark to evaluate the feasibility of the proposed approach. The results show that the accuracy of the gesture recognition reaches 98.5%. In order to prove the effectiveness of our approach, a simply 2Tx2Rx Radar sensor is developed in our lab and the accuracy of recognition reaches 97.1%. The results show that our proposed gesture recognition approach achieves the best performance in real-time with limited training data, in comparison with the existing methods.

Water distribution networks are often susceptible to pipeline leaks caused by mechanical damages, natural hazards, corrosion, and other factors. This paper focuses on the detection of leaks in water distribution networks (WDN) using a data-driven approach based on machine learning. A hybrid Autoencoder neural network (AE) is developed, which utilizes unsupervised learning to address the issue of unbalanced data (as anomalies are rare events). The AE consists of a 3DCNN encoder, a ConvLSTM decoder, and a ConvLSTM future predictor, making the anomaly detection robust. Additionally, spatial, and temporal attention mechanisms are employed to enhance leak localization. The AE first learns the expected behavior and subsequently detects leaks by identifying deviations from this expected behavior. To evaluate the performance of the proposed method, the Water Network Tool for Resilience (WNTR) Simulator is utilized to generate water pressure and flow rate data in a water supply network. Various conditions such as fluctuating water demands, data noise, and the presence of leaks are considered using the pressure-driven demand (PDD) method. Datasets with and without pipe leaks are obtained, where the AE is trained using the dataset without leaks and tested using the dataset with simulated pipe leaks. The results, based on a benchmark WDN and a confusion matrix analysis, demonstrate that the proposed method successfully identifies leaks in 96% of cases and a false positive rate of 4% compared to a random forest model baseline based on supervised learning with a false positive rate of 15% due to unbalanced data. Furthermore, a real case study demonstrates the applicability of the developed model for leak detection in operational conditions of water supply networks using inline sensor data.

The semantic segmentation of high-resolution remote sensing images (HR-RSI) is crucial for a wide range of applications, such as precision agriculture, urban planning, natural resource assessment, and ecological monitoring. However, accurately classifying pixels in HR-RSI faces challenges due to densely distributed small objects and scale variations. Existing techniques, including Convolutional Neural Networks (CNNs) and other methods for hierarchical feature extraction and fusion of remote sensing image, often do not achieve the desired accuracy. In this paper, we propose a novel approach called the Hierarchical Rich-scale Fusion Network (HRFNet) to address these challenges. HRFNet utilizes advanced information rating and image partition techniques to extract rich-scale features within image layers. This allows for the adaptive exploration of both local and global contextual information. Moreover, we introduce a structured intra-layer to inter-layer feature aggregation module, which enables the adaptive extraction of fine-grained details and high-level semantic information from multi-layer feature maps in a highly flexible manner. Extensive experimentation has been conducted to validate the effectiveness of our proposed method. Our results demonstrate that HRFNet outperforms existing techniques, achieving state-of-the-art (SOTA) results on benchmark datasets, specifically the ISPRS Potsdam and Vaihingen datasets.

In recent years, intelligent identification and prediction of ore deposits based on deep learning algorithm and image processing technology has gradually become one of the research frontiers in the field of geological and metallogenic prediction. However, this method also has many problems that need to be solved. For example, (1) very few trainable image samples containing mineral point labels; (2) The geological image features are small and irregular, and the image similarity is high; (3) It is difficult to calculate the influence of different geological prospecting factors on ore mineralization. Based on this, this paper constructs a deep learning network model Multiscale Feature Attention Framework (MFAF) based on geo-image data. The results show that MFCA-Net module in MFAF model can solve the problem of scarce mine label images to a certain extent. In addition, the channel attention mechanism SE-Net module can quantify the difference of influence of different source factors on mineralization. The prediction map is obtained by applying the MFAF model in the study of deposit identification and prediction in the research area of the southern section of Qin-hang metallogenic Belt. In the forecast map, many regions have high metallogenic potential. Through observation, it is found that the above predicted area covers 100% of the known ore deposits at present, which has a good prediction effect. Later, we can find out the specific reasons through field verification. The multi-scale feature fusion and attention mechanism MFA Framework in this paper can provide a new way of thinking for geologists in mineral exploration. The research of this paper also provides resource guarantee and technical support for the sustainable exploitation of mineral resources and the sustainable growth of society and economy.

The current neural networks for tomato leaf disease recognition have problems such as large model parameters, long training time, and low model accuracy. To solve these problems, a lightweight convolutional neural network LBFNet is proposed in this paper.First, a lightweight convolutional neural network LBFNet is established as the base model. Secondly, a three-channel attention mechanism module is introduced to learn the disease features in tomato leaf disease images and reduce the interference of redundant features. Finally, a cascade module is introduced to increase the depth of the model, solve the gradient descent problem, and reduce the loss caused by increasing the depth of the model. The quantized pruning technique is also used to further compress the model parameters and optimize the model performance. The results show that the LBFNet model achieves 99.06% accuracy on the LBFtomato dataset, with a training time of 996s and a single classification accuracy of over 94%. Further training using the saved weight file after quantized pruning makes the model accuracy reach 97.66%. Compared with the base model, the model accuracy was improved by 28%, and the model parameters were reduced by 96.7% compared with the traditional Resnet50. It was found that LBFNet can quickly and accurately identify tomato leaf diseases in complex environments, providing effective assistance to agricultural producers.

In the last 20 years, an increasing number of studies have been reported on membrane active peptides, which exert their biological activity by interacting with the cell membrane either to disrupt it and lead to cell lysis or to translocate through it to deliver cargos into the cell and reach their target. These peptides are attractive alternatives to currently used pharmaceuticals. Antimicrobial peptides (AMPs) and peptides designed for drug and gene delivery currently in the drug pipeline suggest that these membrane active peptides will soon constitute a significant percentage of the drug market. Here, we focus on two most prominent classes of membrane active peptides; AMPs and cell-penetrating peptides (CPPs). AMPs are a group of membrane active peptides that disrupt the membrane integrity or inhibit the cellular functions of bacteria, virus and fungi. CPPs are another group of membrane active peptides that mainly function as cargo-carriers even though they may also show antimicrobial activity to some extent. Biophysical techniques to understand how they interact with the membrane have shed light on the peptide–membrane interaction at various levels of detail. Structural investigation of membrane active peptides in the presence of the membrane provides important clues on the effect of the membrane environment on peptide conformations. Advances in live imaging techniques have allowed examination of peptide action at a single cell or single molecule level. In addition to these experimental biophysical techniques, molecular dynamics simulations provided clues on the peptide-lipid interactions and dynamics of the cell entry process at atomic detail. In this review, we summarize the recent advances in experimental and computational investigation of membrane active peptides with particular emphasis on two amphipathic membrane active peptides, the AMP melittin and the CPP pVEC.
