It is widely discussed that growth of GDP has a vague impact on environmental pollution due to the emissions of carbon dioxide from consumed fossil fuels in production, transportation and power generation, and creation of required instruments to control environmental pollution as well. Due to the fact that environmental pollution can be a reason of mortality increase in a society, the main purpose of this study is to investigate the relationship between economic growth, fossil fuel consumption, mortality (from cardiovascular disease, cancer, diabetes and chronic respiratory disease) and environmental pollution using Generalized Method of Moments (GMM) estimation technique in the case of CIS member states over the period of 1993-2018. The major results revealed CO2 emissions in in the region of CIS have a positive effect on increase of mortality from cardiovascular disease, cancer, diabetes and chronic respiratory disease. In regards to fossil fuel consumption, the estimation proved that this variable affects mortality from cardiovascular disease, cancer, diabetes and chronic respiratory disease positively. In addition, we found effect of economic growth, population growth and inflation rate positively, while any improvement in human development index (HDI) has a negative effect on increase of mortality from cardiovascular disease, cancer, diabetes and chronic respiratory disease in the CIS region. It is recommended that the CIS member states carry out different policies to improve energy transition indicating movement from fossil fuel energy sources to renewable ones. Moreover, we recommend the CIS member states to enhance various policies for easy access to the electricity from green sources and increase of renewable supply through improved technologies, sustainable economic growth, and increase of using green source in daily social life.

As an important research content in cultural geography, the exploration and analysis of the laws of regional cultural differences has great significance for the discovery of distinctive cultures, protection of regional cultures and in-depth understanding of cultural differences. In recent years, with the "spatial turn" of sociology, scholars are paying more and more attention to the implicit spatial information in social media data and the various social phenomena and laws they reflect. One important aspect is to grasp the social cultural phenomena and its spatial distribution characteristics through the text. Using machine learning methods such as the popular natural language processing (NLP), this paper can not only extract hotspot cultural elements from text data but also accurately detect the spatial interaction pattern of some specific cultures and the characteristics of emotions towards non-native cultures. Taking the 6,128 answers to the question “what are the differences between South and North China that you never know” on the Zhihu Q&A Platform as an example, with the help of NLP, this paper has explored the cultural differences between South and North China in people’s mind. This paper probes into people’s feeling and cognition of the cultural differences between South and North China from three aspects, including spatial interaction patterns of hotspot cultural elements, components of hotspot culture and emotional characteristics under the influence of cultural differences between North and South. The study reveals that 1) people from North and South China have great differences in recognizing each other’s culture. 2) Food culture is the most popular among many cultural differences. 3) People tend to show negative attitude towards the food cultures different from their own. All these findings shed light upon the understanding of regional cultural differences and addressing cultural conflicts. In addition, this paper also provides an effective solution to the study from a macro perspective, which have been difficult for new cultural geography.

As one of GEO-constellation for environmental monitoring in the next decade, Geostationary Environment Monitoring Spectrometer (GEMS) is designed to observe the Asia Pacific region to provide the information on the atmospheric chemicals, aerosol and cloud properties. For the continuous monitoring of the sensor performance after its launch in early 2020, here we suggest deep convective clouds (DCCs) as a possible target for the vicarious calibration of GEMS, the first UV/VIS hyperspectral sensor onboard a geostationary satellite. Tropospheric Monitoring Instrument (TROPOMI) and Ozone Monitoring Instrument (OMI) are used as a proxy of GEMS, and a conventional DCC detection approach applying the thermal threshold test is used for the DCC detection based on the collocations with Advance Himawari-8 Imager (AHI) onboard Himawari-8 geostationary satellite. DCCs are frequently detected over the GEMS observation area on average over 200 pixels in a single observation scene. Considering the spatial resolution of GEMS, 3.5 km×7 km which is similar to TROPOMI, and its temporal resolution (8 times a day), availability of DCCs for vicarious calibration of GEMS is expected to be sufficient. Inspection of the DCC reflectivity spectra estimated from the OMI and TROPOMI data also shows a promising result. Even though, their observation geometry and sensor characteristics are quite a different, the estimated DCC spectra agree quite a well within a known uncertainty range with comparable spectral features. When the DCC detection is further improved by applying both visible and infrared tests, the variability of DCC reflectivity from the TROPOMI data is reduced by half, from 10% to 5%. This is mainly due to the efficient screening of cold thin cirrus with the visible test and of bright warm clouds with the infrared test. The precise DCC detection is also expected to contribute to the accurate characterization of the cloud reflectivity, which will be further investigated.

The technique of obtaining information or data about any feature or object from afar, called in technical parlance as remote sensing, has proven extremely useful in diverse fields. In the ecological sphere, especially, remote sensing has enabled collection of data or information about large swaths of areas or landscapes. Even then, in remote sensing the task of identifying and monitoring of different water reservoirs has proved a tough one. This is mainly because getting correct appraisals about the spread and boundaries of the area under study and the contours of any water surfaces lodged therein becomes a factor of utmost importance. Identification of water reservoirs is rendered even tougher because of presence of cloud in satellite images, which becomes the largest source of error in identification of water surfaces. To overcome this glitch, the method of the shape matching approach for analysis of cloudy images in reference to cloud-free images of water surfaces with the help of vector data processing, is recommended. It includes the database of water bodies in vector format, which is a complex polygon structure. This analysis highlights three steps: First, the creation of vector database for the analysis; second, simplification of multi-scale vector polygon features; and third, the matching of reference and target water bodies database within defined distance tolerance. This feature matching approach provides matching of one to many and many to many features. It also gives the corrected images that are free of clouds.

The problem of real-time estimation of occupancy of buildings (number of people in various zones at every time instant) is relevant to a number of emerging applications that achieve high energy efficiency through feedback control. The measurement of CO2 concentration can be considered an important indicator that allows to define the occupation of closed and crowded spaces. Interesting cases can be school buildings and other buildings used in civil and residential (shopping centres, hospitals, etc.). This paper, starting from an experimental analysis in different classrooms of a University campus in real operating conditions, in different period of the year, proposes a possible correlation between CO2 concentration and the occupancy profile of the spaces. The acquired data are used to present some graphical correlations and to understand the most important variables or combination of them. Starting from an accurate analysis of the data, attempts are made to define a preliminary estimation method through the development of a mathematical models of occupancy dynamics in a building, which show interesting results.

The combination of new-generation information technology and manufacturing technology has resulted in major and profound impact on future development paradigm of manufacturing. It is challenging for existing methods to conduct a multidimensional trend exploration related to machine tool domain, which is the basis of virtually everything in manufacturing. In this paper, we proposed an integrating approach framework combined topic models, bibliometric, trend analysis and patent analysis to mine insightful information about future development from multi-source data related to machine tool, such as papers, grants, patents and news. Specifically, papers and grants provided two different perspectives to explore the current focuses and future trends in machine tool research. Furthermore, the future technology development of machine tool was investigated through patents analysis. Finally, news related to machine tool industry in recent years was analyzed to analyze future machine tool business mode. The integration of the above various analytical methods and the multi-dimensional mining of literatures enabled the analysis of the future development of machine tool domain systematically from multi-perspectives which include research, technology development and industry. The conclusions obtained in this paper is beneficial to different communities of machine tool in terms of determining the research directions for researchers, identifying industry opportunities for corporations and developing reasonable industry policy for policy makers.

The objective of this work was to investigate the use of remotely sensed vegetation indices to improve the quality of yield maps. The method was applied to the yield data of twelve cornfields from the Data Intensive Farm Management project. The results revealed the need to time shift the yield values up to three seconds to better match the sensor readings with the geographic coordinates. The residuals of the yield prediction model were used to identify points with unlikely yield values for that location, as an alternative to traditional approaches using local spatial statistics, without any assumption of spatial dependence or stationarity. The temporal and spatial distribution of the standardized coefficients for each experimental unit highlighted the presence of trends in the data. At least five out of the twelve fields presented trends that could have been induced by data collection.

In this paper the authors present a method which facilitates computationally efficient parameter estimation of dynamical systems from a continuously growing set of measurement data. It is shown that the proposed method, which utilises Sequential Monte Carlo samplers, is guaranteed to be fully parallelisable (in contrast to Markov chain Monte Carlo methods) and can be applied to a wide variety of scenarios within structural dynamics. Its ability to allow convergence of one's parameter estimates, as more data is analysed, sets it apart from other sequential methods (such as the particle filter).

Data collection and analysis are becoming more and more important in a variety of application domains as long as the novel technologies advance. At the same time, we are experiencing a growing need for human-machine interaction with expert systems pushing research through new knowledge representation models and interaction paradigms. In particular, in the last years eHealth - that indicates all the health-care practices supported by electronic elaboration and remote communications - calls for the availability of smart environment and big computational resources. The aim of this paper is to introduce the HOLMeS (Health On-Line Medical Suggestions) framework. The introduced system proposes to change the eHealth paradigm where a trained machine learning algorithm, deployed on a cluster-computing environment, provides medical suggestion via both chat-bot and web-app modules. The chat-bot, based on deep learning approaches, is able to overcome the limitation of biased interaction between users and software, exhibiting a human-like behavior. Results demonstrate the effectiveness of the machine learning algorithms showing 74.65% of Area Under ROC Curve (AUC) when first-level features are used to assess the occurrence of different prevention pathways. When disease-specific features are added, HOLMeS shows 86.78% of AUC achieving a more specific prevention pathway evaluation.

The Medi-test system we developed was motivated by the large number of resources available for the medical domain, as well as the number of tests needed in this field (during and after the medical school) for evaluation, promotion, certification, etc. Generating questions to support learning and user interactivity has been an interesting and dynamic topic in NLP since the availability of e-book curricula and e-learning platforms. Current e-learning platforms offer increased support for student evaluation, with an emphasis in exploiting automation in both test generation and evaluation. In this context, our system is able to evaluate a student’s academic performance for the medical domain. Using as input medical reference texts and supported by a specially designed medical ontology, Medi-test generates different types of questionnaires for Romanian language. The evaluation includes 4 types of questions (multiple-choice, fill in the blanks, true/false and match), can have customizable length and difficulty and can be automatically graded. A recent extension of our system also allows for the generation of tests which include images. We evaluated our system with a local testing team, but also with a set of medicine students, and user satisfaction questionnaires showed that the system can be used to enhance learning.

Speech/music classification that facilitates optimized signal processing from classification results has been extensively adapted as an essential part of various electronics applications, such as multi-rate audio codecs, automatic speech recognition, and multimedia document indexing. In this paper, a new technique to improve the robustness of speech/music classifier for 3GPP enhanced voice service (EVS) using long short-term memory (LSTM) is proposed. For effective speech/music classification, feature vectors implemented with the LSTM are chosen from the features of the EVS. Experiments show that LSTM-based speech/music classification produces better results than conventional EVS under a variety of conditions and types of speech/music data.

The segmentation and de-noising are basic operations, required in every signal processing and classification system. The classical segmentation and de-noising approaches are time-invariant. Consequently, it results in the post processing of an unnecessary information and causes an increase in the system processing activity and power consumption. In this context, an efficient event-driven segmentation and de-noising technique is proposed. It is founded on the principles of level crossing and activity selection. Therefore, it can adapt its sampling frequency, segmentation window length and position along with the filter order by analyzing the input signal local characteristics. As a result, the computational complexity and the power consumption of the proposed system is reduced compared to the counter ones. The suggested system performance is compared with the classical one. It is done for the case of a multi-channel Electroencephalogram (EEG) signals. Results show a noticeable compression gain with an effective adaptation of the de-noising filters order. It aptitudes a significant computational gain, transmission data rate reduction and power consumption reduction of the proposed technique, compared to the counter ones. It shows that the proposed solution is an attractive candidate to embed in the new generation EEG wearables.

Polar mesocyclones (MCs) are small marine atmospheric vortices. The class of intense MCs, called polar lows, are accompanied by extremely strong surface winds and heat fluxes and thus largely influencing deep ocean water formation in the polar regions. Accurate detection of polar mesocyclones in high-resolution satellite data, while challenging, is a time-consuming task, when performed manually. Existing algorithms for the automatic detection of polar mesocyclones are based on the conventional analysis of patterns of cloudiness and involve different empirically defined thresholds of geophysical variables. As a result, various detection methods typically reveal very different results when applied to a single dataset. We develop a conceptually novel approach for the detection of MCs based on the use of deep convolutional neural networks (DCNNs). As a first step, we demonstrate that DCNN model is capable of performing binary classification of 500x500km patches of satellite images regarding MC patterns presence in it. The training dataset is based on the reference database of MCs manually tracked in the Southern Hemisphere from satellite mosaics. We use a subset of this database with MC diameters falling in the range of 200-400 km. This dataset is further used for testing several different DCNN setups, specifically, DCNN built “from scratch”, DCNN based on VGG16 pre-trained weights also engaging the Transfer Learning technique, and DCNN based on VGG16 with Fine Tuning technique. Each of these networks is further applied to both infrared (IR) and a combination of infrared and water vapor (IR+WV) satellite imagery. The best skills (97% in terms of the binary classification accuracy score) is achieved with the model that averages the estimates of the ensemble of different DCNNs. The algorithm can be further extended to the automatic identification and tracking numerical scheme and applied to other atmospheric phenomena characterized by a distinct signature in satellite imagery.

The futures market plays a significant role in hedging and speculating by investors. Although various models and instruments are developed for real-time trading, it is difficult to realize profit by processing and trading a vast amount of real-time data. This study proposes a real-time index futures trading strategy that uses the pattern of KOSPI 200 index futures time series data. We construct a pattern matching trading system (PMTS) based on a dynamic time warping algorithm that recognizes patterns of market data movement in the morning and determines the afternoon's clearing strategy. We adopt 13 and 27 representative patterns and conduct simulations with various ranges of parameters to find optimal ones. Our experimental results show that the PMTS provides stable and effective trading strategies with relatively low trading frequencies. Investor communities that have sustained financial markets are able to make more efficient investments by using the PMTS. In this sense, the system developed in this paper is a sustainable investment technique and helps financial markets achieve efficient sustainability.

This paper considers a non-mixture cure model for right censored data. It utilizes the maximum likelihood method to estimate model parameters in the non-mixture cure model. The simulation study is based on Fréchet susceptible distribution to evaluate the performance of the method. Comparing with Weibull and exponentiated exponential distributions, the non-mixture Fréchet distribution is shown to be the best in modeling a real data on allogeneic marrow HLA-matched donors and ECOG phase III clinical trial e1684 data.

Brillouin-Enhanced Four-Wave-Mixing techniques, which couple four optical beams through Brillouin nonlinearity, have gained popularity in the 1980's largely owing to their phase conjugation properties. Experiments were mainly conducted in liquid cells. The interest in Brillouin-Enhanced Four-Wave-Mixing has reawakened in the 2000's, following the quest for dynamically reconfigurable gratings in optical fibers. Termed Brillouin Dynamic Grating this time around, it is, in fact, an acoustic wave, optically generated by stimulated Brillouin scattering process between two pump waves. The acoustic wave either carries the coherent information encoded by the pump beams, or in the case of sensing applications, its properties are determined by the environmental parameters. This information, in turn, is imparted to the third phase-matched optical probe wave through the elasto-optic effect. Over the last decade, this mechanism allowed for the realization of many all-optical signal processing functions and has proven instrumental in distributed sensing applications. This paper describes the basics, as well as the state of the art, of BDG-based applications in optical fibers. It also surveys the efforts being done to carry over these concepts to the photonic chip level.

This paper aims to provide an adaptation of the TL-moments method to censored data. The present study concentrates on Type-I censored data. The idea of using TL-moments with censored data may seem conflicting. But our perspective in that, we may use data censored from one side and trimmed from the other side. This study is applied to estimate the two unknown parameters of the Weibull distribution. The suggested point is compared with Direct L-moments and ML methods. A Monte Carlo simulation study is carried out to compare these method in terms of estimate average, root of mean square error (RMSE) and relative absolute biases (RAB).

Modern mobile devices are replete advanced sensors that expand the array of possible methods of locating users. This is often viewed in a positive light, as a tool to gather and use spatial information, but it also brings with it the problem of “geosurveillance” in which the “Location” becomes a product in itself. In the realm of software developers, this has been reduced and discretized to a set of coordinates, devoid of human experiences and meanings. To function in such digitally augmented realities, people need to adopt specific attitudes, often accompanied with anxiety. We explored attitudes toward locational data collection practices using questionnaire surveys (n = 280) from Poznan and Edinburgh. The prevailing attitude is neutral with a strong undertone of resignation, in which surrendering personal locational information is viewed as a digital currency. A smaller number of people had stronger, emotional views, either very positive or very negative, based on uncritical technological enthusiasm or fear of privacy violation. Such a wide spectrum of attitudes is not only produced by interaction with technology but can also be viewed as a result of different perceptions and values associated with space and place itself.

Wind turbine upgrades have been spreading in the recent years in the wind energy industry, with the aim of optimizing the efficiency of wind kinetic energy conversion. This kind of interventions has material and labor costs and it is therefore fundamental to estimate realistically the production improvement. Further, the retrofitting of wind turbines sited in harsh environments might exacerbate the stressing conditions to which wind turbines are subjected and consequently might affect the residue lifetime. This work deals with a case of retrofitting: the testing ground is a multi-megawatt wind turbine from a wind farm sited in a very complex terrain. The blades have been optimized by installing vortex generators and passive flow control devices. The complexity of this test case, dictated by the environment and by the features of the data set at disposal, inspires the formulation of a general method for estimating production upgrades, based on multivariate linear modeling of the power output of the upgraded wind turbine. The method is a distinctive part of the outcome of this work because it is generalizable to the study of whatever wind turbine upgrade and it is adaptable to the features of the data sets at disposal. In particular, applying this model to the test case of interest, it arises that the upgrade increases the annual energy production of the wind turbine of an amount of the order of the 2%. This quantity is of the same order of magnitude, albeit non-negligibly lower, than the estimate based on the assumption of ideal wind conditions. Therefore, it arises that complex wind conditions might affect the efficiency of wind turbine upgrades and it is therefore important to estimate their impact using data from wind turbines operating in the real environment of interest.

Spatial Data Infrastructures (SDI) established during the past two decades ’unlocked’ heterogeneous geospatial datasets. The European Union INSPIRE Directive laid down the foundation of a pan-European SDI where thousands of public sector data providers make their data available for cross-border and cross-domain reuse. At the same time, SDIs should inevitably adopt new technology and standards in order to remain fit for purpose and address in the best possible way the needs of different stakeholders (government, businesses and citizens). Some of the recurring technical requirements raised by SDI stakeholders include (i) the need for adoption of RESTful architectures, together with (ii) alternative (to GML) data encodings, such as JavaScript Object Notation (JSON) and binary exchange formats, and (iii) adoption of asynchronous publish-subscribe-based messaging protocols. The newly established OGC standard SensorThings API is particularly interesting to investigate for INSPIRE, as it addresses together all three topics. In this manuscript, we provide our synthesised perspective on the necessary steps for the OGC SensorThings API standard to be considered as a solution that meets the legal obligations stemming out of the INSPIRE Directive. We share our perspective on what should be done concerning (i) data encoding, and (ii) the use of SensorThings API as a download service.

Personalized medicine is an aspect of the P4 medicine (predictive, preventive, personalized and participatory) based precisely on the customization of all medical characters of each subject. In personalized medicine, the development of medical treatments and drugs is tailored to the individual characteristics and needs of each subject, according to the study of diseases at different scales from genotype to phenotype scale. To make concrete the goal of personalized medicine, it is necessary to employ high-throughput methodologies such as Next Generation Sequencing (NGS), Genome-Wide Association Studies (GWAS), Mass Spectrometry or Microarrays, that are able to investigate a single disease from a broader perspective. For example, by using genotyping microarrays (e.g. collections of Single Nucleotide Polymorphism - SNP) it is possible to uncover the reasons (i.e. mutation in genes) because a treatment works properly in some patients (for example absence of mutated genes), but it does not work (presence of mutated genes) in others. A side effect of high-throughput methodologies is the massive amount of data produced for each single experiment, that poses several challenges (e.g. high execution time and required memory) to bioinformatic software. Thus a main requirement of modern bioinformatic software is the use of good software engineering methods and efficient programming techniques, able to face those challenges, that include the use of parallel programming and efficient and compact data structures. Thus, to exploit all the potential of this massive amount of data in the short possible time (before that data becomes obsolete), the necessity to develop parallel software tools for efficient data collection and analysis arise. Moreover, due to the heterogeneity of the data produced by the different kinds of experimental platforms, it is necessary to automatize in a comprehensive software pipeline, the various steps that compose a bioinformatic analysis, such as: the preprocessing of raw data to remove noise or corrupted data; the annotation of data with external knowledge (e.g. Gene Ontology), and the integration of molecular data with clinical data. It should be noted that such steps are necessary to make statistical or data mining analysis more effective. This paper presents the design and the experimentation of a comprehensive software pipeline, named microPipe, for the preprocessing, annotation and analysis of microarray-based SNP genotyping data. A case study in pharmacogenomics is presented. The main advantages of using microPipe are: the reduction of errors that may happen when trying to make data compatible among different tools; the possibility to analyze in parallel huge datasets; the easy annotation and integration of data.

This paper aims to develop a low-cost, high-performance and high-reliability computing system to process large-scale data using common data mining algorithms in the Internet of Things computing. Considering the characteristics of IoT data processing, similar to mainstream high performance computing, we use a GPU cluster to achieve better IoT services. Firstly, we present an energy consumption calculation method (ECCM) based on WSN. Then, using the CUDA Programming model, we propose a Two-level Parallel Optimization Model (TLPOM) which exploits reasonable resource planning and common compiler optimization techniques to obtain the best blocks and threads configuration considering the resource constraints of each node. The key to this part is dynamic coupling Thread-Level Parallelism (TLP) and Instruction-Level Parallelism (ILP) to improve the performance of the algorithms without additional energy consumption. Finally, combining the ECCM and the TLPOM, we use the Reliable GPU Cluster Architecture (RGCA) to obtain a high-reliability computing system considering the nodes’ diversity, algorithm characteristics, etc. The results show that the performance of the algorithms significantly increased by 34.1%, 33.96% and 24.07% for Fermi, Kepler and Maxwell on average with TLPOM and the RGCA ensures that our IoT computing system provides low-cost and high-reliability services.

This paper introduces an innovative theoretical framework for quantum-inspired data embeddings, grounded in foundational concepts of quantum mechanics such as superposition and entanglement. This approach aims to advance semi-supervised learning in contexts characterized by limited labeled data by enabling more intricate and expressive embeddings that capture the underlying structure of the data effectively. Grounded in foundational quantum mechanics concepts such as superposition and entanglement, this approach redefines data representation by enabling more intricate and expressive embeddings. Emulating quantum superposition encodes each data point as a probabilistic amalgamation of multiple feature states, facilitating a richer, multidimensional representation of underlying structures and patterns. Additionally, quantum-inspired entanglement mechanisms are harnessed to model intricate dependencies between labeled and unlabeled data, promoting enhanced knowledge transfer and structural inference within the learning paradigm. In contrast to conventional quantum machine learning methodologies that often rely on quantum hardware, this framework is fully realizable within classical computational architectures, thus bypassing the practical limitations of quantum hardware. The versatility of this model is illustrated through its application to critical domains such as medical diagnosis, resource-constrained natural language processing, and financial forecasting—areas where data scarcity impedes the efficacy of traditional models. Experimental evaluations reveal that quantum-inspired embeddings substantially outperform standard approaches, enhancing model resilience and generalization in high-dimensional, low-sample scenarios. This research marks a significant stride in integrating quantum theoretical principles with classical machine learning, broadening the scope of data representation and semi-supervised learning while circumventing the technological barriers of quantum computing infrastructure.

This paper presents a novel solution aimed at enhancing news web pages for seamless integration into the Semantic Web. By utilizing advanced pattern mining techniques alongside OpenAI’s GPT-3, we rewrite news articles to improve their readability and accessibility for Google News aggregators. Our approach is characterized by its methodological rigor and is evaluated through quantitative metrics, validated using Google’s Rich Results Test, which confirms the effectiveness of our generated structured data. The impact of our work is threefold: it advances the technological integration of a substantial segment of the web into the Semantic Web, promotes the adoption of Semantic Web technologies within the news sector, and significantly enhances the discoverability of news articles in aggregator platforms. Furthermore, our solution facilitates the broader dissemination of news content to diverse audiences. This study explores the potential of Federated Learning (FL) to facilitate the sharing and collaboration of medical data in drug development under the premise of privacy protection. While traditional centralized data processing methods limit effective collaboration across agencies due to data privacy and compliance concerns, federated learning avoids the risk of privacy breaches through a distributed architecture that allows participants to train artificial intelligence (AI) models together without sharing raw data. This paper systematically describes the core mechanism of federated learning, including the key technologies such as model parameter updating, differential privacy and homomorphic encryption, and their applications in drug development and medical data processing. Examples, such as NVIDIA Clara's Federated learning application and COVID-19 resource prediction, show that federated learning improves the efficiency of multi-party collaboration and model performance while ensuring data privacy. In addition, this study explores the scalability and generality of federated learning in the medical field, and points out that the technology is not only suitable for drug development, but also has broad cross-industry application potential, especially in areas such as finance and insurance, where data privacy is critical.

Detection and quantification of disease-related biomarkers in wastewater samples, denominated Wastewater Based Surveillance (WBS), has proven a valuable strategy for studying the prevalence of infectious diseases within populations in a time and resource-efficient manner, as wastewater samples are representative of all cases within the catchment area, whether they are clinically reported or not. However, analysis and interpretation of WBS datasets for decision-making during public health emergencies, such as the COVID-19 pandemic, remains an area of opportunity. In this article, a database obtained from wastewater sampling at wastewater treatment plants (WWTPs) and university campuses in Monterrey and Mexico City between 2021 and 2022 was used to train simple clustering and regression-based risk assessment models to allow for informed prevention and control measures in high-affluence facilities, even if working with low-dimensionality datasets and a limited number of observations. When dividing weekly data points based on whether the seven-day average daily new COVID-19 cases were above a certain threshold, the resulting clustering model could differentiate between weeks with surges in clinical reports and periods between them with an 83.3% accuracy rate. Moreover, the clustering model provided satisfactory forecasts one week (79.2% accuracy) and two weeks (72.9%) into the future. However, the prediction of the weekly average of new daily cases was limited (R2 = 0.452, MAPE = 180.2%), likely because of insufficient dimensionality in the database. Overall, while simple, WBS-supported models can provide relevant insights for decision-makers during epidemiological outbreaks, regression algorithms for prediction using low-dimensionality datasets can still be improved.

The circular economy is a tangible paradigm in response to the unsustainable model of production and consumption of resources in the agri-food system. The circular economy allows for a reduction in the environmental impact through the minimization of food waste or the maximal generation of renewable energy from waste. Despite the relevance, the extant literature is scat for indications on how to apply circular business models in agri-food systems. Hence, the paper aims to analyze the circular economy implementation level in the agri-food system in 29 European countries focusing on specific circular economy strategies. Selected indicators were analyzed to evaluate the level of circular economy implementation in the agri-food system (e.g., production values, energy sharing from renewable sources, and total waste emission) using a Panel data analysis method. The required variables were gained from the global databases within the recent five years (2014-2018). Results reveal an overall lack of circular economy implementation in the agri-food systems among European countries. A set of 12 managerial propositions was suggested to foster the implementation of the circular business models by interacting the recycling, extending, intensifying, and dematerializing strategies with aspects of the production process, waste emission, and renewable energy sharing in the agri-food system.

In recent years of technological advancements, the digitization of information has become a crucial factor for the growth and sustainability of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), particularly in developing countries. These enterprises face a growing problem in accessing IT resources due to financial and lack of qualified IT personnel in their regions. This led to a growing interest in database and data warehouse technologies, which serve as foundational tools for organizing, storing, and analyzing vast amounts of data. This systematic review proposes to evaluate the impact of database and data warehouse technologies on organizational performance by employing the 2020 Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) framework, this review thoroughly synthesizes existing literature to identify the key benefits and challenges associated with the adoption of these technologies in SMEs. The proposed inclusion criteria were bounded by (1) publication date between 2014 and 2024, (2) research written in English, (3) research work focusing on evaluating the impact of database and data warehouse technologies on organizational performance, (4) research with a clear evaluation analysis of database and data warehouse technologies research framework. Following these guidelines, 150 eligible research studies were included. The analysis reveals a wide range of findings concerning the impact of database and data warehouse technologies. Key results include the identification of cost-efficiency trends, improvements in decision-making processes, enhancements in customer relationship management, and gains in operational efficiency. The findings provide actionable guidance for SMEs, policymakers, and IT professionals seeking to leverage these technologies to enhance organizational performance. To the best of our knowledge, this systematic review offers a comprehensive analysis that fills a gap in the existing literature on the impact of these technologies on organizational outcomes.

Lidar and camera sensors are widely utilized in autonomous vehicles (AVs) and robotics due to their complementary sensing capabilities—lidar provides accurate depth information, while cameras capture rich visual data. However, effective fusion of these sensors requires precise calibration, which is often challenging due to the differences in sensing modalities. This paper presents a self-calibration algorithm based on Singular Value Decomposition (SVD) to address this problem. Singular Value Decomposition is a powerful matrix factorization technique that helps identify key calibration parameters by decomposing matrices into singular vectors and values, representing essential calibration data. Our method not only automates the calibration process but also provides a reliable mechanism for detecting calibration errors, ensuring long-term accuracy and robustness in sensor fusion. The algorithm simplifies deployment in real-world applications by eliminating the need for manual calibration or external targets. Experimental results show that our approach improves sensor alignment and fusion accuracy, making it particularly useful for AV and robotic systems where maintaining precise calibration is critical.

In today’s business landscape, customer retention has become a critical factor for sustainable growth. Many companies continue to focus on acquisition, which leads to high costs and constant customer turnover. This article highlights the importance of retention, proposing a shift in focus toward loyalty as the key to maximizing customer lifetime value (LTV). Improving retention not only increases LTV but also reduces acquisition costs, enhances virality, and provides financial stability. This paper introduces a scientific approach that allows companies to identify the underlying causes of low retention through observation, hypothesis formulation, and controlled experimentation. Using tools such as data analysis and A/B testing, companies can iteratively optimize their retention strategy, adjusting interventions in real-time based on the results obtained. Continuous experimentation emerges as an indispensable tool for navigating market complexity, enabling organizations to learn and adapt quickly. This data-driven approach not only improves retention but also drives long-term growth by building strong relationships with customers. In an increasingly competitive environment, companies that prioritize retention and experimentation are better positioned to achieve resilient and profitable growth.

Objective The healthcare industry has witnessed a paradigm shift with the adoption of Electronic Patient Records (EPRs), transitioning from traditional Paper and Pencil (P&P) methods to sophisticated, technology-driven documentation systems. However, the integration of EPRs into clinical settings has introduced new challenges. This study investigates workflow consequences of switching from P&P to EPR systems. Methods In this study, two independent observers audited surgical ward rounds to assess the effects of transitioning from P&P to EPR. These audits captured number of medical personnel and five key aspects before and after EPR implementation. Additionally, the EPR system's usability was gathered through the System Usability Scale (SUS) and the Post Study System Usability Questionnaire (PSSUQ). Results A total of 192 observations using P&P and 160 with the EPR system were analyzed. Results indicated that physicians spent a lower proportion of time in patient rooms using the P&P modality (median = 0.14, IQR = [0.06, 0.24]) compared to the EPR system (median = 0.19, IQR = [0.12, 0.29]). Conversely, nurses spent more time with the P&P modality (median = 0.13, IQR = [0.08, 0.18]) than with the EPR system (median = 0.10, IQR = [0.06, 0.13]). The typical team in the P&P modality comprised two physicians and four nurses, while teams in the EPR system generally included two or three physicians and three nurses. Usability assessments yielded scores rated as "Not Acceptable." Conclusion The EPR is already known to contribute to an increased administrative burden. Our findings generally align with this view in the physician sample, whereas nurses did not encounter difficulties switching systems. However, usability scores indicated that the EPR system falls short of meeting user acceptance expectations. Given the continuous increase in administrative workload, our results suggest that ururcing administrative tasks could enhance the efficiency of medical duties performed at patient's bedside.

In the process of game development, identifying and deleting currently abandoned assets as content iterates can effectively reduce the size of game packages. But the built-in reference checking tool in UE4 can only check static references of assets and cannot identify dynamically referenced resources in the program. We have developed a static analysis tool for analyzing unused assets in the UE4 project to address this issue. This tool checks the function parameters of all loading points, analyzes the value range of the parameter string based on the data dependency relationship of the actual parameter variable, and considers that the assets that match within the range are referenced. Due to the fact that in some cases, the exact data stream of the actual parameter variable is not computable (resulting in false negatives), the reverse analysis tool supports manually marking the parameter range at the loading point. This tool can generate asset collections that are dynamically referenced. The union of its results with the built-in reference checking tool in UE4 is the set of all referenced assets. The difference set between all asset sets and the referenced asset set is the abandoned asset set. This achieves a more complete cleaning of redundant resources and reduces the size of game packages.

Accurate Quantitative Precipitation Estimation (QPE) is fundamental for a large number of hydrometeorological applications, especially when addressing extreme rainfall phenomena. This paper presents a comprehensive comparison of various rainfall estimation methods, specifically those relying on weather radar data, rain gauge data, and their fusion. The study evaluates the accuracy and reliability of each method in estimating rainfall for a severe event that occurred in Tuscany, Italy. The obtained results indicate that merging radar and rain gauge data outperform both individual approaches by reducing errors and improving the overall reliability of precipitation estimates. The study highlights the importance of data fusion in enhancing the accuracy of QPE and also supports its application in operational contexts, providing evidence for the greater reliability of merging methods

Quantifying forest carbon storage to better manage climate change and its effects requires accurate estimation of forest structural parameters such as canopy height. Variables from remote sensing data and machine-learning models are tools that are being increasingly used for this purpose. This study modelled canopy height of forest-savannah mosaics in the Sudano-Guinean zone of Togo. Relative heights were extracted from GEDI and ICESat-2 products, which were combined with optical, radar and topographic variables for canopy height modelling. We tested four methods: Random Forest (RF); Support Vector Machine (SVM); Extreme Gradient Boosting (XGBoost); and Deep Neural Network (DNN). The RF algorithm obtained the best predictions using 98% relative height (RH98). The best performing result was obtained from variables extracted from GEDI data (r = 0.84; RMSE = 4.15 m; MAE = 2.36 m), compared to ICESat-2 (r = 0.65; RMSE = 5.10 m; MAE = 3.80 m). Models that were developed during the study, from the combination of multisource and multisensor data, can be applied over large areas in forest-savannah mosaics, thereby contributing to better monitoring of forest dynamics according to the objectives and requirements of REDD+.

Digital image compression is applied to reduce camera bandwidth and storage requirements, but real-time lossless compression on a high-speed high-resolution camera is a challenging task. The article presents hardware implementation of a Bayer colour filter array lossless image compression algorithm on an FPGA-based camera. The compression algorithm reduces colour and spatial redundancy and employs Golomb-Rice entropy coding. A rule limiting the maximum code length is introduced for the edge cases. The proposed algorithm is based on integer operators for efficient hardware implementation. The algorithm is first verified as a C++ model and later implemented on Xillinx Zynq UltraScale+ device using VHDL. An effective tree-like pipeline structure is proposed to concatenate codes of compressed pixel data to generate a bitstream representing data of 16 parallel pixels. The proposed parallel compression achieves up to 56% reduction in image size for high resolution images. Pipelined implementation without any state machine ensures operating frequencies up to 320 MHz. Parallelised operation on 16 pixels effectively increases data throughput to 40 Gbit/s while keeping total memory requirements low due to real-time processing.

Type 2 Diabetes (T2D) is a major public health concern. We have previously shown that the biochemical functions of the gut microbiome contribute to the postprandial glucose response and built a machine learned (ML) model that can personalize dietary choices using a stool metatranscriptomic test. We integrated this data-driven personalized nutrition process into the Viome Precision Nutrition Program (VPNP), which includes sample collection kits (capillary blood and stool), an AI/ML nutritional recommendation engine, and an app for digital delivery of dietary recommendations. To test the efficacy of VPNP, we conducted a decentralized, blinded, randomized, placebo-controlled trial in a prediabetic and diabetic adult population in the USA, with HbA1c as the primary endpoint. For this pilot trial, we recruited 27 participants and randomized them into two arms. The placebo arm included sample collection, digital delivery of the USDA dietary recommendations, and physical delivery of supplements filled with inert material. The VPNP (interventional) arm included digital delivery of data-driven and personalized dietary recommendations, and physical delivery of precision supplements. The nutritional intervention lasted ~90 days. The ANCOVA analysis method was employed to control for potential confounders measured at baseline. VPNP intervention (n=12) reduced HbA1c more than the placebo (n=15) in a clinically significant manner (HbA1c difference of 0.42%, p = 0.028). We demonstrate that a precision nutrition program based on stool and blood metatranscriptomic data and AI/ML analyses can significantly reduce HbA1c relative to USDA recommended nutrition in a prediabetic and diabetic population. These results suggest that integrating data-driven precision nutrition into the healthcare system could reduce the burden of T2D.

Imbalanced classes can cause machine learning models to classify positive class instances poorly, and the models require hyperparameter sets to optimal values. This study aims to develop random forest (RF) and support vector machine (SVM) models that use the optimal hyperparameters obtained through 5-fold cross-validation data. Both models were trained using optimal hyperparameter pairs that fit two data scenarios, the original and oversampling training sets, to produce the benchmark and best models. The model's performance was evaluated using six metrics, including training and testing data. The acquired optimal RF hyperparameter pair was (500, 10) for the minimum number of instances and tree depth level. In contrast, the acquired optimal SVM hyperparameter pair was (0.001, 500) for the gamma and constant values. The benchmark model performed approximately 98% on Accuracy, Precision, Recall, and F1 score metrics but failed to deliver any performance on Mathew's Correlation Coefficient (MC) and Area under Curve (AUC) metrics. The best RF and SVM perform less than both benchmark models in four famous metrics. Both best models have performance improvements of approximately 6% and 11% for the MCC and AUC metrics, respectively. The best RF performance was slightly better than the best SVM performance.

In the field of Natural Language Processing (NLP), Large Language Models (LLMs) have shown great potential in document-level event extraction tasks, but existing methods face challenges in the design of prompts. To address this issue, we propose an optimization strategy called "Definition-driven Document-level Event Extraction (DDEE)." By adjusting the length of the prompt and enhancing the clarity of heuristics, we have significantly improved the event extraction performance of LLMs. We used data balancing techniques to solve the long-tail effect problem, enhancing the model's generalization ability for event types. At the same time, we refined the prompt to ensure it is both concise and comprehensive, adapting to the sensitivity of LLMs to the style of prompts. In addition, the introduction of structured heuristic methods and strict limiting conditions has improved the precision of event and argument role extraction. These strategies not only solve the prompt engineering problems of LLMs in document-level event extraction but also promote the development of event extraction technology, providing new research perspectives for other tasks in the NLP field.

Despite these advantages, challenges such as data privacy concerns and the need for continuous innovation remain. Retailers must address these issues to maintain consumer trust and stay competitive. Looking ahead, emerging technologies such as artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML) are expected to further enhance mobile app functionalities and personalization. The focus on sustainability is also influencing mobile app features, aligning with consumer values and expectations. Overall, mobile applications are set to play an increasingly critical role in shaping the future of retail marketing, offering new opportunities for engagement, innovation, and growth.

This study explores the impact of mobile technologies on consumer behavior in retail marketing, examining how advancements in mobile platforms have transformed shopping habits and interactions with brands. Mobile technologies have revolutionized the retail experience by providing unprecedented convenience, allowing consumers to shop at any time and from any location. This shift has led to a marked preference for mobile shopping over traditional methods, fundamentally altering consumer behavior. Key findings reveal that personalization plays a crucial role in enhancing consumer engagement and satisfaction, with mobile technologies enabling tailored recommendations and offers based on individual preferences. Access to real-time information, such as product details and price comparisons, empowers consumers to make more informed purchasing decisions, reflecting a shift towards deliberate and confident buying choices. Social media and social commerce have also become significant factors, with consumers discovering new products and brands through these platforms and benefiting from integrated shopping features. Impulse buying behavior has increased due to the convenience of mobile shopping, with promotional alerts and simplified payment processes contributing to spontaneous purchases. The integration of mobile technologies with physical store experiences has created a more seamless shopping journey, bridging the gap between online and offline interactions. However, challenges such as privacy concerns, data security, and information overload remain significant. Consumers are increasingly aware of data collection risks and may experience fatigue from excessive marketing messages. To navigate this evolving landscape, retailers must balance the advantages of mobile technologies with addressing these challenges to effectively meet consumer needs and expectations.

Big Data and blockchain technology are coming together to revolutionize how decisions are made in a decentralized way across various industries. This review looks at how these technologies, along with distributed systems, can improve data security, transparency, and real-time processing, making decision-making more efficient and informed. The integration enhances data security with unchangeable records, increases transparency and traceability, and supports real-time data analysis. However, there are challenges to overcome, including scalability, data privacy, interoperability, regulatory compliance, and high costs. By examining case studies such as Estonia's healthcare system, IBM and Walmart's Food Trust, and the Brooklyn Microgrid project, we explore the practical applications and benefits of combining Big Data with blockchain. Despite these hurdles, the review finds that the ongoing advancements and innovative solutions in these technologies offer significant promise. They are set to drive the adoption and effectiveness of decentralized decision-making, ultimately leading to better efficiency and outcomes across multiple sectors.

With the digital transformation of the logistics industry, smart logistics algorithms have become a core technology to improve efficiency and reduce costs. This paper reviews the development history of traditional logistics technology and discusses the key role of technologies such as the Internet of Things, big data analysis, artificial intelligence, and automation in logistics technology innovation. It focuses on the application of intelligent logistics algorithms in path optimization, intelligent scheduling, data mining and prediction, and intelligent warehousing. To solve the problem of inconsistency between training and testing objectives, this paper proposes DRL4Route, a deep reinforcement learning-based path optimization framework, and designs the DRL4Route-GAE model. Validated through extensive offline experiments and online deployments, the model significantly outperforms existing optimal benchmark methods on real datasets, improving the location deviation squared metrics and the top-three location prediction accuracy metrics. These research results provide important support to further promote the intelligent development of the logistics industry.

Since the beginning of the internet era, there has been an explosion of growth in structured data (such as numbers, symbols, and labels) as well as unstructured data (including images, videos, and text). Efficient and accurate mixed query of these two types of data is a key technology to achieve high-quality information retrieval, and it is also a major challenge that needs to be solved urgently in the industry. In this study, we employ an advanced Transformer model that combines strategies and fine-tuning techniques for multi-task learning. Specifically, the model is first pre-trained on a large-scale, general-purpose dataset to learn different types of data representations and basic language comprehension skills. After that, we fine-tuned the parameters of the model to better suit these specific data processing tasks for specific application scenarios, such as image annotation, video content analysis, and structured data query. At the heart of the model is the self-attention mechanism, which allows the model to automatically emphasize the important parts and ignore irrelevant information when processing the input data. In addition, we have introduced task-specific adaptation layers that are designed to add additional processing power to the original Transformer architecture, such as a semantic analysis layer for unstructured text data and a relational extraction layer for structured data. This combination of general pre-training and task-specific fine-tuning allows the model to flexibly process and integrate information from different data sources, improving processing efficiency and accuracy. Experimental results show that the model performs well in a variety of data processing tasks, significantly improves the accuracy and efficiency of information retrieval, and verifies the strong potential and adaptability of large language models in processing mixed data types.

Estimating the ocean’s subsurface thermohaline information from satellite measurements is essential for understanding ocean dynamics and El Niño phenomenon. This paper proposes an improved double-output Residual Neural Network (DO-ResNet) model to concurrently estimate the ocean subsurface temperature (OST) and ocean subsurface salinity (OSS) in the tropical Western Pacific using multi-source remote sensing data, including sea surface temperature (SST), sea surface salinity (SSS), sea surface height anomaly(SSHA), sea surface wind (SSW), and geographical information (including longitude (LON) and latitude (LAT)). In the model experiment, Argo data were used to train and validate the model, and the root mean square error (RMSE), normalized root mean square error (NRMSE) and coefficient of determination (R²) were employed to evaluate the model's performance. The results showed that the sea surface parameters selected in this study have a positive effect on the estimation process, and the average RMSE and R² values for estimating OST (OSS) by the proposed model are 0.34 °C (0.05 psu) and 0.91 (0.95), respectively. Under the data conditions considered in this study, DO-ResNet demonstrates superior performance relative to the extreme gradient boosting model, random forest model, and artificial neural network model. Additionally, this study evaluates the model’s accuracy by comparing its estimations of OST and OSS across different depths with Argo-derived data, demonstrating the model's ability to effectively capture the most spatial features, and by comparing NRMSE across different depths and seasons, the model displays strong seasonal adaptability. In conclusion, this research introduces a novel artificial intelligence technique for estimating OST and OSS in the tropical Western Pacific Ocean.

While advances in information and communication technology have increased the efficiency of information distribution, it has also brought several challenges to the database industry. One of the main challenges is ensuring the real-time availability of data, which is critical. In addition, downtime in centralized database systems can cause significant failures. Therefore this research applies database replication, especially the multi-master method, is used to increase availability and reduce the possibility of failure. For distributed transaction distribution, this research uses the auto-promote master method and web services for PostgreSQL database replication. The focus of the research is on real-world college site selection transactions, where speed, scalability, and high data availability are critical. The results show that combining these methods can improve system performance and protect data availability. With fast response time, high throughput, and low error rate, the API performs well with various loads. As a testament to scalability and reliability, the system can handle large volumes of traffic without experiencing significant crashes. For containerization, Docker supports efficient and stable performance and ensures consistency and manageability. Future recommendations include improving the data security mechanism and further efforts to optimize the distribution system architecture.

This study investigates the environmental parameters contributing to the Urban Heat Island (UHI) effect in historically built environments, focusing on Matera's Street Canyon. The primary objective is to enhance understanding of heritage centers' ecological sustainability and management frameworks. The study involves two main phases: the initial research and development phase, including a comprehensive literature review and methodology development, followed by the empirical data gathering and analysis phase, utilizing advanced techniques such as 3D laser scanning, satellite imagery, and meteorological data integration. Key findings reveal significant correlations between urban morphology, material properties, and UHI intensity, suggesting stra-tegic urban planning interventions to mitigate UHI effects. This research provides actionable in-sights for urban planners and policymakers, emphasizing the importance of balancing heritage preservation with modern sustainability needs.

Urbanization is a dynamic process. At different stages of urbanization, polices of managing car-bon emissions should be adjusted. In this paper, two types of nighttime light data and statistical data of 68 cities in China from 2002 to 2021 are used to establish an urban development evalua-tion system comprising population, economy, construction, and society subsystems. Then, cities were categorized into expanding, contracting, and stable types to understand the uncertainty of urbanization's impact on carbon emissions. The main conclusions are as follows: (1) Integrated nighttime light data is used to extract built-up area boundaries, achieving an overall accuracy ranging from 68.75% to 98.4%, with kappa coefficients ranging between 0.60 and 0.94. (2) Ex-panding cities were concentrated in the eastern coastal regions, while contracting cities were mainly located in inland cities with traditional industries. Urban agglomerations in the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region, Yangtze River Delta region, and Chengdu-Chongqing metropolitan demonstrate synchronized characteristic of urbanization development. (3)Economy and con-struction have a greater impact on carbon emissions than population and society. For expanding cities, the focus of carbon emission governance should prioritize rational land use planning. Conversely, for contracting cities, emphasis should be placed on adjusting economic structures.

From the various perspectives of Machine Learning (ML) and the multiple models used in this discipline, there is an approach aimed at training models for the Early Detection (ED) of anoma-lies. The early detection of anomalies is crucial in multiple areas of knowledge since identifying and classifying them allows for early decision-making and provides a better response to mitigate the negative effects caused by late detection in any system. This article presents a literature review to examine which machine learning models (MLM) operate with a focus on ED in a multidisci-plinary manner and specifically how these models work in the field of fraud detection. A variety of models were found, including Logistic Regression (LR), Support Vector Machines (SVM), De-cision Trees (DT), Random Forests (RF), Naive Bayesian Classifier (NB), K-Nearest Neighbors (KNN), Artificial Neural Networks (ANN), Extreme Gradient Boosting (XGB), among others. It was identified that MLMs operate as isolated models, categorized in this article as Single Base Models (SBM) and Stacking Ensemble Models (SEM). It was identified that MLMs for ED in multiple areas under SBM and SEM implementation achieved accuracies greater than 80% and 90%, respectively. n fraud detection, accuracies greater than 90% were reported by the authors. The article concludes that MLMs for ED in multiple applications, including fraud, offer a viable way to identify and classify anomalies robustly, with a high degree of accuracy and precision. MLMs for ED in fraud are useful as they can quickly process large amounts of data to detect and classify suspicious transactions or activities, helping to prevent financial losses.

The current green development in the context of public policy and industrial economy is difficult to fully match the new infrastructure process driven by massive data. Its connotation and exten-sion and the level of rule of law need to be deepened to ensure that data production, processing, circulation, elimination and other activities can get high-quality and sustainable development in the collaborative construction of hard facilities and soft environment in the new era. Based on the practical needs of data industry green development in key areas, we can resolve the legal risk of data industry green development from three aspects: improving the legal level of green public policy, clarifying the green legal benchmark of data industry development, and improving the green legal system of digital society. Then, it considers the design of environmental protection system based on hardware facilities and the structural and readable clean data system innova-tion of soft data industry development framework mode, so as to clarify the legalization scheme of data industry green development under the new infrastructure. Overall, achieving the green development of the data industry requires not only active attempts by China but also joint efforts by China and other countries.

The study developed a novel method for evaluating the freshness of citrus fruits by integrating near-infrared spectroscopy with the nonlinear data processing capabilities of a BP neural network. This approach utilizes specific wavelength analysis to distinguish between fresh and non-fresh fruits effectively. Advanced preprocessing techniques are employed to remove spectral anomalies, enhancing the network's ability to accurately identify crucial quality indicators like sugar content. Concurrently, an experiment utilising a MATLAB-based BP neural network optimised the number of hidden layer nodes, identifying 61 as optimal. This configuration achieved impressive metrics, including a mean squared error of 0.0025665 and a root mean squared error of 49.8214, over 1000 training iterations with an 80% learning rate. The model demonstrated a high accuracy rate of 97.6275%, confirming its precision and reliability in assessing citrus freshness. This synergy between advanced neural network processing and spectroscopic techniques marks a significant advancement in agricultural quality assessment, setting new standards for speed and efficiency in data processing.

Drug-target binding is an essential parameter in drug discovery and design to ensure drug efficacy and specificity. In 2022, the concept of a general intermolecular binding affinity calculator (GIBAC) was for the first time coined: $Kd = f(molecules, envPara)$. Technically, GIBAC represents a set of in silico approaches for structural and biophysical data generation towards a paradigm shift in precise drug discovery and design, providing a comprehensive framework for intermolecular binding affinity calculation with adequate accuracy, precision and efficiency. For the first time, this study reports a prototype of GIBAC (semaGIBAC), i.e., a one-dimensional semaglutide-GLP-1R-based mini static GIBAC, based on an experimental complex structure of semaglutide and GLP-1R. Semaglutide is a potent GLP-1 receptor agonist used to treat type 2 diabetes mellitus by regulating blood glucose levels and promoting weight loss. In 2021, a structural modification involving a Val27-Arg28 exchange was manually introduced to enhance semaglutide-GLP-1R binding affinity. This study employs a comprehensive structural and biophysical analysis aimed at thoroughly exploring the sequence space of semaglutide-GLP-1R to design analogues with improved binding affinity, leading to the identification of a promising semaglutide analogue, which binds to GLP-1R with an affinity that is more than two orders of magnitude (113.3 times) higher than native semaglutide. To sum up, this article puts forward a promising structural biophysical approach for developing GLP-1 receptor agonists with enhanced efficacy, and with a GIBAC prototype (semaGIBAC), this article argues again that the time is now ripe for the construction of a real GIBAC to be listed on the agenda of the drug discovery and design community.

The demonstration of compliance of rolling stock against disturbance limits for railway signaling, and in particular track circuits, is subject to a large deal of variability, caused by the diverse values of the electrical parameters of the railway line and resulting transfer functions, as well as operating conditions of rolling stock during tests. Instrumental uncertainty is evaluated with a Type B approach and shown to be much less than the experimental variability. Repeated test runs in acceleration, coasting, cruising, braking conditions are considered, deriving both max-hold (spread) and sample dispersion curves compared to the respective mean values (Type A approach to the evaluation of uncertainty). The major source of variability affecting a significant portion of the spectrum is caused by the superposed oscillations of the onboard LC filter, for which different choices of the transformation window duration are discussed. The test runs and the acquired data covered overall 1 day of tests along about 300 km of the Italian 3 kV DC railway network.

The abstract of the study on the challenges and opportunities of supply chain digitalization encapsulates the primary findings and their implications from the perspectives of industry leaders. This qualitative research investigated how senior executives across diverse sectors perceive and manage the transition to digital supply chains. Interviews with twenty industry leaders revealed key challenges such as data integration, cybersecurity, organizational resistance, and financial constraints. Data integration issues were particularly pronounced, as participants struggled with unifying disparate data sources from legacy and modern systems, creating barriers to achieving cohesive digital frameworks. Cybersecurity emerged as a critical concern due to the increased vulnerability of digital supply chains to cyber threats, necessitating robust and proactive security measures. Organizational resistance, driven by employee apprehensions about job displacement and technological unfamiliarity, highlighted the need for effective change management practices, including clear communication and training. Financial constraints, especially for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), underscored the difficulty of justifying the substantial investments required for advanced digital technologies. Despite these challenges, the study identified significant opportunities associated with digitalization, including enhanced operational efficiency, improved visibility, predictive analytics, and better customer satisfaction. Digital tools were found to streamline processes, reduce manual intervention, and provide real-time insights into supply chain performance, thus facilitating more informed decision-making and swift responses to disruptions. The accelerated adoption of digital technologies during the COVID-19 pandemic demonstrated their essential role in enhancing supply chain resilience and agility. Additionally, the integration of sustainability goals through digitalization supported resource optimization and waste reduction, aligning with broader corporate social responsibility objectives. The findings suggest that while the path to digital transformation is complex, the benefits of improved efficiency, decision-making, customer satisfaction, and sustainability present compelling incentives for organizations to invest in and embrace digital supply chain solutions.

Natural risks encompass a range of disasters and dangers, requiring comprehensive management through assessments, anticipations, and advanced alert systems. Our specific focus is on landslides in challenging terrains. The evaluation of landslide risks employs sophisticated multicriteria models, such as the weighted sum approach, integrating qualitative parameters. Despite the challenges of the rugged terrain in Northern Algeria, it paradoxically hosts a dense population attracted by valuable hydro-agricultural resources. Our research is dedicated to studying landslide risks in these areas, particularly in the Mila region, with the aim of constructing a statistical model integrating considerations of both danger and vulnerability. This complex process identifies threats and their determining factors, including geomorphology and socio-economic conditions. The result is a valuable tool for effective risk management, strengthening safety and resilience against natural disasters. By understanding the intricate interplay of geological, environmental, and social elements, our research can contribute to the development of targeted interventions, fostering a more resilient community in the face of natural adversities.

This study aims to provide empirical evidence on whether using renewable and non-renewable energy, CO₂ emissions and the resulting changes in temperature and precipitation can alter cereal yields in European Union countries. To this end, a panel data set covering 1992-2021 has been used to analyse the impact of climate change and economic factors on cereal production in European Union countries. The study employed various analytical techniques to understand better the relationship between climate change, energy consumption, and economic growth. These included using annual average temperature and rainfall to measure climate change and energy consumption and economic growth to analyse the economic aspects. To achieve the objective, feasible generalised least squares (FGLS) models with robust standard errors and bootstrap and a quantile regression (QR) model with marginal analysis were employed. The Westerlund cointegration test confirmed the presence of cointegration between cereal production and climate variables, economic growth, and energy consumption. The results indicate that increases in temperature and precipitation may contribute to increased cereal production in European Union countries. In contrast, energy consumption, including renewable energy and CO₂ emissions, may have a nonlinear effect on cereal production. Quantile regression analysis suggests climate change may impact crop yields most in countries with low and moderate cereal production per hectare. Increased CO₂ emissions may increase yields in the initial period, but excessive CO₂ may negatively impact cereal production in the long term. It would be advisable for countries with low and moderate crop productivity to consider implementing technological advances and combating global warming by modernising cultivation methods and making greater use of renewable energy sources.

As coastal and marine ecosystems, even the inland waters can be deeply affected by human-driven impacts. Consequently, the internal waters belonging to closed or semi-closed basins due to their hydrographic and morphological conditions can be subject to even more dramatic consequences in terms of conservation and overall ecosystem functioning maintaining. Despite the Albano Lake is listed among the Natura 2000 network sites (IT6030038), several elements of its landscape complexity have already experimented clearly visible alterations: from certain landscape features alterations to the loss of some iconic vegetal and animal species characterizing the lake environment in the past. Therefore, a virtuous commitment awaits us and we have the moral duty of acting in order to restore such degraded habitats. Each environmental restoration intervention and/or clean up session can be considered relevant in order to give back the right dignity to one of the most naturalistically relevant environments of Central Italy. For each field session a plethora of data can be acquired both onshore and underwater by diving operators. Therefore, the data management of a huge temporal and spatial variability can be remarkable. It can be made easier relying on artificial intelligence (AI) supporting geospatial databases for GIS analysis to be run for their role as decision-supporting tools. On this perspective AIs can be used to model environmental systems, greatly helping to reduce use conflicts and human-driven impacts, whilst understanding the ecological characteristics and related ecosystem functioning.

Reducing waiting times is crucial for ports to be efficient and competitive. Important causes of waiting times are cascading interactions between realistic hydrodynamics, accessibility policies, vessel-priority rules, and detailed berth availability. The main challenges are determining the cause of waiting and finding rational solutions to reduce waiting time. In this study, we focus on the role of the design depth of a channel on the waiting times. We quantify the performance of channel depth for a representative fleet rather than the common approach of a single normative design vessel. It relies on a mesoscale agent-based discrete-event model that can take processed Automatic Identification System and hydrodynamic data as its main input. The presented method’s validity is assessed by hindcasting one year of observed anchorage area laytimes for a liquid bulk terminal in the Port of Rotterdam. The hindcast demonstrates that the method predicts the causes of 73.4% of the non-excessive laytimes of vessels, thereby correctly modelling 60.7% of the vessels-of-call. Following a recent deepening of the access channel, cascading waiting times due to tidal restrictions were found to be limited. Nonetheless, the importance of our approach is demonstrated by testing alternative maintained bed level designs, revealing the method’s potential to support rational decision-making in coastal zones.

In this work, we explore the ability to dynamically group the Wind Turbine (WT) of a Wind Farm (WF) based on the behaviour of some of their Supervisory Control And Data Acquisition (SCADA) signals to detect the turbines that exhibit abnormal behaviour. We centre this study on a small WF of five WTs. We use the fact that the same signals from different turbines in the same WF coherently evolve temporally in a time domain, describing very similar waveforms. In this contribution, we use averaged signals from the SCADA system and omit maximums, minimums and standard deviations, focusing mainly on velocities and other slowly varying signals. For the temporal analysis, sliding windows of different temporal durations and overlapings are explored. The capability to automatically identify WTs whose signals differ from the group’s behaviour can alert and program preventive maintenance operations on such WTs before a major breakdown occurs.

Additionally, it addresses forthcoming challenges, including regulatory compliance, data privacy issues, and the imperative for strengthened cybersecurity measures. The conclusion acknowledges that the adoption of these innovative technologies not only boosts operational efficiency but also markedly diminishes financial risks, thereby contributing to a more stable and reliable financial market

This paper investigates the impact of debt financing on dividend payments when they face the agency costs of free cash flow. Focusing on a sample of 120 firms listed on the Saudi Stock Exchange during the period 2011-2021. The study found a negative association between agency cost of free cash flow and dividend payment. More importantly, our research highlights the significant role of long-term debt in making more prudent use of free cash flow. The obligation to meet interest and principal payments acts as an incentive for them to steer clear of unprofitable expenses and risky investments. Concurrently, long-term debt imposes restrictive clauses in debt contracts, such as minimum dividend distribution requirements, which further encourage higher dividend payments. Since interest and debt repayments are fixed obligations, using free cash flow for dividend disbursement is considered a more profitable and beneficial approach for shareholders in the context of Saudi Arabia.

Air quality is a topic of growing relevance on the global agenda. Two key indicators of air quali-ty, nitrogen dioxide (NO2) and carbon monoxide (CO), represent significant hazards to human health and the environment putting the sustainability of natural resources at risk. Therefore, it is imperative to regularly monitor and reduce atmospheric pollutant concentrations to mitigate their harmful consequences. This study presents an analysis of NO2 total and CO emissions in Argentina, utilizing remote sensing data. The research aims to determine the spatiotemporal distribution of NO2 and CO emissions in Argentina from 2019 to 2021. Subsequently, it seeks to establish the influence of land uses and land cover on the emission of NO2 and CO through dif-ferent climatic, anthropic, and natural indicators. The study was carried out in Argentina during the period 2019-2021, where random points were placed for the different land covers with a total of 800 points surveyed. The year with the highest CO concentration (mol/m-2) was 2020. The values were highest for tree covers and herbaceous wetland coverage in the northern part of the country. For total NO2, the highest concentrations were reached during the years 2020 and 2021. Regarding its distribution, throughout the evaluated period, the highest concentrations of total NO2 were found in the built-up and cropland coverages, with the capital of the country and the northern region of the Buenos Aires province being the most affected areas. In addition, the concentration of CO was influenced by climatic variables (atmospheric pressure, wind speed, maximum environment temperature, Palmer index), natural (height, humidity, NDVI), and ur-ban variables (distances to mining extraction, airports, power plants, urban index) for the differ-ent uses and land covers. Finally, the concentrations of total NO2 were influenced by climatic variables (Palmer index and wind speed), natural (height and NDVI), and urban variables (dis-tance to airports, power plants, industries, service stations, and open dumpsites) for the differ-ent uses and land cover. This study contributes to sustainable environmental management, ena-bling the formulation of effective strategies for mitigating emissions and promoting the long-term health and well-being of communities.

Background/Aim: Baricitinib (BAR) is the first oral selective Janus kinase inhibitor approved in Europe for rheumatoid arthritis (RA). Real-world data are still needed to clarify its long-term benefit/risk profile. This study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness, persistence, adherence, and safety of BAR in a real-world setting. Methods: An ambispective study was conducted between October 2017 and December 2021 in RA patients starting BAR. Effectiveness was evaluated by change from baseline in the Disease Activity Score using 28-joint counts-C reactive protein (DAS28CRP), and achievement of low disease activity/remission. Drug persistence was evaluated by Kaplan-Meier analysis. Adherence was estimated by medication possession ratio (MPR) and the 5-item Compliance Questionnaire for Rheumatology. Safety was assessed by global incidence proportion and adjusted incidence rates of adverse events. Results: 61/64 recruited patients were finally analyzed, 83.6% female, 78.7% seropositive, mean age of 58.1 (15.4) years, and disease duration of 13.9 (8.3) years. 32.8% were naïve to biologics and 16.4% received BAR on monotherapy. After a median exposure to BAR of 12.4 (6.6-31.2) months (range 3.1-51.4), a significant change in DAS28CRP was observed (difference -1.2, p=0.000). A total of 70.5% and 60.7% patients achieved low disease activity or remission, respectively and 50.8% (31/61) patients remained on BAR during follow-up with a median persistence of 31.2 (9.3-53.1) months. The average MPR was 0.96 (0.08) and all patients were “good adherents” by questionnaire. 21.3% patients discontinued baricitinib due to toxicity. Conclusion: In our real-world practice, BAR demonstrated effectiveness, large persistence, high adherence to treatment and acceptable safety profile.

This work (in two parts) will review the recently developed predictive modeling methodology called “4th-BERRU-PM” and its applicability to energy systems as exemplified by an illustrative application to the Polyethylene-Reflected Plutonium (acronym: PERP) OECD/NEA reactor physics benchmark. The acronym 4th-BERRU-PM designates the “Fourth-Order Best-Estimate Results with Reduced Uncertainties Predictive Modeling” methodology, which yields best-estimate results with reduced uncertainties for the first fourth-order moments (mean values, covariance, skewness, and kurtosis) of the optimally predicted posterior distribution of model results and calibrated model parameters. The 4th-BERRU-PM uses the Maximum Entropy (MaxEnt) principle to incorporate fourth-order experimental and computational information, including fourth (and higher) order sensitivities of computed model responses to model parameters, thus incorporating, as particular cases, the results previously predicted by the second-order predictive modeling methodology 2nd-BERRU-PM, and vastly generalizing the results produced by extant data assimilation and data adjustment procedures. The 4th-BERRU-PM methodology encompasses the scopes of high-order sensitivity analysis (SA), uncertainty quantification (UQ), data assimilation (DA) and model calibration (MC). The application of the 4th-BERRU-PM methodology to energy systems is illustrated by means of the above-mentioned OECD/NEA reactor physics benchmark, which is modeled using the neutron transport Boltzmann equation involving 21976 imprecisely known parameters, the solution of which is representative of “large-scale computations.” The model result (“response”) of interest is the leakage of neutrons through the outer surface of this spherical benchmark, which can be computed numerically and measured experimentally. Part 1 of this work illustrates the impact of high-order sensitivities, in conjunction with parameter standard deviations of various magnitudes, on the determination of the expected value and variance of the computed response in terms of the first four moments of the distribution of the uncertain model parameters. Part 2 of this work will illustrate the capabilities of the 4th-BERRU-PM methodology for combining computational and experimental information, up to and including forth-order sensitivities and distributional moments, for producing best-estimate values for the predicted responses and model parameters while reducing their accompanying uncertainties.

Floods, recognized for their erratic behavior and devastating effects, are a significant threat as a natural disaster. In Brunei Darussalam, the impact of climate change is becoming increasingly evident through higher temperatures and an expected increase in annual rainfall (5.0mm per year from 2021 to 2050), highlighting the critical need for updated flood risk management techniques. In line with the climate resilience and adaptation objectives of WAWASAN 2035, this paper introduces an innovative approach—a cutting-edge flood risk management framework that utilizes the capabilities of big data analytics, sophisticated machine learning algorithms, and smart Internet of Things (IoT) sensors. Traditional methods, which rely on numerical and physical data modeling, often do not provide precise short-term flood forecasts. Our suggested framework uses machine learning to analyze real-time flood forecasting, sensor data and enhance warning systems, addressing the shortcomings of traditional approaches. The key advantage of this approach is its potential to drastically decrease flood-related damages, protect lives, and boost infrastructure resilience. This proposal is not only in aligns with Brunei's vision for a safe and climate-adaptable future but also marks a significant step forward in adopting innovative and sustainable flood risk management solutions amidst an evolving climate.

Predictions of crop production in the Chi basin are of major importance for decision support tools in countries such as Thailand, which aim to increase domestic income and global food security by implementing the appropriate policies. This research aims to establish a predictive model for predicting crop production for an internal crop growth season prior of harvest at the province scale for fourteen provinces in Thailand's Chi basin between 2011 and 2019. We provide approaches for reducing redundant variables and multicollinearity in remotely sensed (RS) and meteorological data to avoid overfitting models using correlation analysis (CA) and variance inflation factor (VIF). Temperature condition index (TCI), normalized difference vegetation index (NDVI), land surface temperature (LSTnight), and mean temperature (Tmean) were the resulting variables in the prediction model with a p-value < 0.05 and a VIF < 5. The baseline data (2011–2017: June to November) were used to train four regression models, which revealed that eXtreme Gradient Boosting (XGBoost), random forest (RF), and XGBoost achieved R2 values of 0.95, 0.94, and 0.93, respectively. In addition, the testing dataset (2018–2019) displayed a minimum root mean square error (RMSE) of 0.18 ton/ha for the optimal solution by integrating variables and applying the XGBoost model. Accordingly, it is estimated that between 2020 and 2022, the total crop production in the Chi basin region would be 7.88, 7.64, and 7.72 million tons, respectively. The results demonstrated that the proposed model is proficient at greatly improving crop yield prediction accuracy when compared to a conventional regression method and that it may be deployed in different regions to assist farmers and policymakers in making more informed decisions about agricultural practices and resource allocation.

Key performance indicators are essential for any company to enhance its competitiveness. How-ever, a common issue is the manual collection of production data using record sheets, which are later digitized on desktop computers and processed in Excel sheets. Shockingly, 41% of companies in Mexico have no plans for digitalization. This work aims to develop a Real-time Productivity Indicator Monitoring System using Industry 4.0 technologies for a medium-sized manufacturing firm specializing in die-cutting automotive parts. The Advanced Quality Planning methodology was applied to develop the Conceptual, Product, and Process Engineering and its validation. The experimental tests demonstrated a reliability level of 99.98%, which exceeded initial expectations. The primary contributions presented in this work are related to the development of algorithms, communication protocols, data analysis, and general optimization of the calculation process. The study's only limitation was the short experimentation time.

The variety of risks due to climate change with a potential impact on Cultural Heritage CH requires a multidisciplinary approach and a preliminary overview of the existing methods for risk analysis and assessment in different fields. Thus, the starting point of the research conducted by the Sapienza PNRR working group consists in a systematic literature review of risk assessment approaches, methods and indicators. As a first outcome, the research has designed a multidisciplinary comprehensive framework consisting of the definition of risk categorization, the framework represented by a measurable index and the main target, according to the classification of Cultural Heritage based on the harmonization of European vocabularies definitions and protocols. The risk assessment framework sets the methodological core of a future multi criteria matrix and digital platform for decision focused on the historic built environment and it is functional to the definition of specific operational guidelines connected to each risk for elaborating descriptive/predictive Architectural Heritage’s transformation scenarios to support the development of mitigation and adaptation strategies.

Cross-institutional secondary use of medical data benefits from structured semantic annotation, which, ideally, enables matching and merging semantically related data items from different sources and sites. While numerous medical terminologies and ontologies, as well as some tooling, exist to support such annotation, cross-institutional data usage based on independently annotated datasets is challenging for multiple reasons: the annotation process is resource intensive and requires a combination of medical and technical expertise since it often requires judgment calls to resolve ambiguities resulting from non-uniqueness of potential mappings to various levels of ontological hierarchies and relational and representational systems. Divergent resolution of such ambiguities can inhibit joint cross-institutional data usage based on semantic annotation since data items with related content from different sites will not be identifiable based on their respective annotations if different choices were made without further steps such as ontological inference, which is still an active area of research. We hypothesize that a collaborative approach to semantic annotation of medical data can contribute to more resource efficient and high-quality annotation by utilizing prior annotational choices of others to inform the annotation process, thus both speeding up the annotation itself and fostering a consensus approach to resolving annotational ambiguities by enabling annotators to discover and follow pre-existing annotational choices. Therefore, we have implemented a prototypical Collaborative Annotation Tool (CoAT), evaluated its usability, and present first inter-institutional experiences with this novel approach to promoting practically relevant interoperability driven by use of standardized ontologies.

The necessity for effective intrusion detection systems (IDS) in big data environments has grown critical due to the rising prevalence of big data systems and the rising amount of security threats. Applying conventional intrusion detection methods to the enormous and intricate data produced by big data ecosystems presents difficulties. Deep learning, has proven to be exceptionally adept at deciphering complex, large-scale data. This study proposes a Deep Learning-based Intrusion Detection System (IDS) created specifically for the Big Data environment. Traditional intrusion detection systems struggle to efficiently identify and prevent cyber threats due to the ever-increasing volume and complexity of data in current networks. We suggest an IDS that makes use of Deep Learning (CNN, LSTM, GAN, etc.), to address this problem. These cutting-edge neural network topologies give the system the ability to process and analyze massive amounts of data for precise intrusion detection. Data collection, data preprocessing, feature engineering, DL model training, intrusion detection, warning generation, and reaction are some of the crucial parts of the suggested IDS. The data collection module mines the Big Data environment for network traffic, system logs, and security event information. To make sure the data is suitable for analysis, it is preprocessed. To improve the detection abilities of the DL models, important features are extracted from the data using feature engineering approaches.

This study introduces the Dynamic Feedback-Driven Learning Optimization Framework (DFDLOF), an innovative machine learning-based approach to personalize educational pathways. DFDLOF leverages advanced algorithms for in-depth analysis of learner data, enabling the dynamic customization of educational content and methodologies. Its application in diverse online platforms, including Khan Academy and Coursera, underscores its adaptability and scalability. DFDLOF enhances learner engagement and outcomes by providing tailored learning experiences and real-time feedback. Key insights reveal its strengths in personalized education, particularly in dynamically adapting learning paths and the importance of real-time feedback. Challenges identified include integration complexities and data privacy concerns. Future research directions emphasize the need for longitudinal impact studies and broader demographic applications. This study contributes significantly to the evolving domain of adaptive learning technologies, demonstrating the transformative potential of machine learning in personalizing education.

This study aimed to use spatiotemporal tensor data to measure the level of employment quality in China's provinces and analyzed the magnitude and direction of its influencing factors in the spatiotemporal dimension. Taked 30 provinces, autonomous regions and municipalities directly under the central government in China from 2011 to 2020 as the research object, the employment quality evaluation system was constructed from six dimensions of employment environment, employment status, employability, labor remuneration, social security, and labor relations. The employment quality index data was expressed as a three-order high-dimensional tensor spatio-temporal data form, and the employment quality of China's provinces was measured from the spatio-temporal perspective by using principal tensor analysis, and the visual analysis of the development and change process of employment quality was carried out. The spatial autocorrelation analysis of employment quality was carried out, and the time-space dual fixed effect model of the spatial Dubin model was selected to analyze the direction and magnitude of the influence factors of employment quality on itself and its neighboring provinces. The research showed that: (1) The overall level of employment quality in China was not high and the employment quality varies greatly among provinces, and the employment quality development gap among provinces showed a trend of widening. (2) The development of employment quality in western China was relatively fast, while the development of employment quality in central China showed insufficient stamina. (3) Sichuan Province had a strong radiation effect on the development of employment quality in neighboring provinces, and Beijing and Tianjin had a strong siphon effect on the development of employment quality in neighboring provinces. (4) The level of industrialization and informatization promoted the development of employment quality in China's provinces, while the industrial structure had a significant negative effect on the development of employment quality.

This study examines the effects of working capital management strategies on firm’s financial performance of Indian cement companies using 11-year (2010-2020) financial data of 31 companies listed in Bombay Stock Exchange. It is intended to find out whether the strategies made by finance managers with respect to the components of working capital such as average receivable period, inventory conversion period, average payment period and cash conversion cycle, etc. affects the firm’s performances individually and in total. The results of Pearson’s correlation coefficient and random effect regression model shows that there exists a negative relationship between financial performance measured in terms of return on assets (ROA) and inventory turnover period (ITP) as well as accounts payable period (APP), whereas firm’s performance is not significantly affected by accounts receivable period (ARP) and cash conversion cycle (CCC). Similarly, it has been observed that the liquidity measures such as current ratio (CR) and quick ratio (QR) have a significant positive association with ROA. Moreover, the size of the firms and leverage are inversely related to ROA but the age of the firms is not significantly affecting their financial performances. Hence, it can be concluded that how an organisation designs its working capital strategy do have an impact on its performances.

Intelligent Tutoring Systems (ITS) are increasingly popular for online learning. These systems use adaptive algorithms to recommend relevant content based on students' profiles. However, instructors need to periodically assess students' performance to ensure learning outcomes and adjust strategies accordingly. Our objective is to predict students' progress in advance, enabling teachers to make quicker decisions and facilitating the iterative process of adaptive algorithms. For this study, we collected a dataset from ALIN, an online learning platform, consisting of over 5,000 students' learning records and test results. Using this dataset, we conducted experiments employing various machine learning algorithms. The results indicate that learning behavior contributes to improving forecast performance, while students' progress strongly correlates with their previous test results. Additionally, we discovered that students' progress can be indirectly predicted by forecasting their scores. Furthermore, by breaking down overall scores into several distinct components and predicting individual scores for each component, the accuracy of the forecasts can be improved.

Object detection is important in many applications, such as autonomous driving. While 2D images are lack of depth information and are sensitive to environmental conditions, 3D point cloud can provide accurate depth information and a more descriptive environment. However, sparsity is always a challenge in single-frame point cloud object detection. This paper introduces a two-stage proposal-based feature fusion method for object detection using multiple frames. The proposed method, called proposal features fusion (PFF), utilizes a cosine-similarity approach to associate proposals from multiple frames and employs an attention weighted fusion module to merge features from these proposals. It allows for feature fusion specific to individual objects and offers lower computational complexity while achieving higher precision. The experimental results on the nuScenes dataset demonstrate the effectiveness of our approach, achieving a mAP of 46.7%, which is 1.3% higher than the state-of-the-art 3D object detection method.

Urbanization and climate change have increased the need for stormwater management and nature-based solutions. Decisions made at project level impact the emergence of systemic traits of the stormwater network and the functionality of the catchment areas in urban planning. To that end, it is vital to introduce the decision-making tools for analyzing both the utilities and amenities of nature-based solutions (NBS) to increase their adoption to reduce the peak loads in the stormwater system, and to that end, mitigate the impacts of climate change. This paper demonstrates a workflow using drone-based photogrammetry, 3D modeling, and simulation software to generate visual and functional models assisting in informed decision-making in the design of stormwater systems as functional landscape architecture. Using aerial data from drones and modeled design solutions, the proposed workflow simulates rain events, infiltration, evaporation, water flow, and accumulation of stormwater in a way that allows the visual and quantified analysis of detailed landscape architecture designs. The paper provides an example of a rooftop site simulation demonstrating the infiltration and flow of water to the drainage. The visual decision-making method provided can aid in investment decisions for functional landscape design in support of stormwater management.

Objectives: The aim of our current study was to analyze whether the use of important measures of methodological quality and reporting of randomized clinical trials published in the field of cardiovascular disease research have changed over time. Further aim was to investigate whether there was an improvement over time in the ability of these trials to provide a good estimate of the true intervention effect. Methods We conducted two searches in the Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials (CENTAL) database to identify cardiovascular clinical research trials published in either 2012 or 2017. Randomized clinical trials (RCTs) trials in cardiovascular disease research with adult participants were eligible to be included. We randomly selected 250 RCTs for both publication year 2012 and 2017. Trial characteristics, data on measures of methodological quality and reporting were extracted and risk of bias for each trial was assessed. Results As compared to 2012 in 2017 there were significant improvements in the reporting of the presence of a data monitoring committee (42.0% in 2017 compared to 34.4% in 2012), and a positive tendency of registering cardiovascular disease research RCTs in clinical trial registries (83.6% in 2017 compared to 72.0% in 2012). On the other hand, we also observed that significantly fewer RCTs reported sample size calculation (60.4% in 2017 compared to 98.4% in 2012) in 2017 as compared to 2012. RCTs in 2017 were more likely to have low overall risk of bias ( RoB ) than in 2012 (29.2% in 2017compared to 21.2% in 2012). Conclusion: As compared to 2012 in 2017 there were significant improvement in some, but not all the important measures of methodological quality. Although more trials in the field of cardiovascular disease research had a lower overall RoB in 2017, the improvement over time was not consistently perceived in all RoB domains.

Data mining techniques have garnered significant attention within the realm of education. However, the procurement of ample student data poses a formidable challenge. In response to this challenge, we present a student dataset characterized by its size and distinctive attributes. This dataset encompasses various task-related topics interconnected through a learning pathway, thereby enabling researchers to delve into the data from novel perspectives. Moreover, it encompasses extensive longitudinal student behavioral data, a rarity that adds substantial value. Spanning the years from 2010 to 2021, our dataset comprises a cohort of 7,933 students, 64,344 test scores, and 183,390 behavior records, solidifying its status as a valuable resource for educational research. In our experiments, we achieved successful predictions of students' test outcomes based on behavioral learning data. The strengths of our dataset render it apt for analyzing the nexus between student conduct and academic performance, crafting personalized learning recommendations, and pursuing various other research pursuits.

Efficient traffic management at signalized intersections is integral to urban infrastructure development, requiring accurate estimation of delay times to mitigate congestion and enhance overall transportation systems. Traditional methodologies, including empirical observations and microsimulation software, have been prevalent in assessing delay times; however, their limitations have prompted the exploration of novel technologies like LiDAR (Light Detection and Ranging) sensors. This research study investigates and compares the accuracy of delay time estimations obtained from LiDAR sensor technology with those derived from microsimulation in AIMSUN. LiDAR sensors, known for their high-resolution, real-time data collection capabilities, offer a promising avenue for precise measurement of delay times at signalized intersections. Nonetheless, challenges in sensor placement, environmental influences, and data processing complexities suggest the need for further development and validation. In parallel, microsimulation software, exemplified by AIMSUN, provides a virtual platform for scenario testing but relies on assumptions that may not always mirror real-world traffic dynamics accurately. The comparative analysis conducted in this study aims to critically examine the discrepancies and potential complementarity between delay times obtained from LiDAR sensor technology and those derived from microsimulation in AIMSUN. The research involves an in-depth evaluation of real-time, high-resolution data collected by LiDAR sensors, assessing their accuracy in capturing the intricate movements and behavior of vehicles at signalized intersections. Simultaneously, AIMSUN microsimulation delay time models are scrutinized for their ability to accurately replicate these observed delay times. The disparities identified serve as critical insights into the challenges of both methodologies, prompting the discussion on the prospects of integrating LiDAR-derived data and microsimulation calibration processes to enhance the precision and reliability of delay time estimations. Future traffic management strategies can significantly benefit from a more accurate understanding of delay times, and this study endeavors to contribute to the advancement of methodologies in traffic engineering for more effective urban transportation systems.The paper's findings illuminate the potential and limitations of both LiDAR sensor technology and microsimulation in estimating delay times at signalized intersections. The results highlighted that the LiDAR sensors could accurately calculate delay times at a signalized intersection. Furthermore, the calculated delay time differences by LiDAR and AIMSUN at three days with the highest vehicle volumes (counts) are always less than 6.5%.

This study investigates the application of Light Detection and Ranging (LiDAR) sensor technology for data collection at signalized intersections characterized by a high rate of traffic crashes. The research aims to provide valuable insights into the potential of LiDAR-based data analysis to enhance road safety and traffic management at signalized intersections. The research methodology involved the deployment of LiDAR sensors at Marlboro Pike & Brooks Dr. signalized intersection in Coral Hills, Maryland. Two LiDAR sensors installed in this intersection to collect high-resolution, three-dimensional data of the intersection area from June, 1^st to July, 7^th 2023. The data included information on vehicle trajectories, speeds, and behaviors, as well as pedestrian and cyclist movement patterns. Concurrently, historical traffic crashes recorded and traffic flow data were obtained for the same intersection.The analysis of LiDAR data involved several key aspects including LiDAR data allowed for a precise evaluation of traffic flow patterns, including congestion points, traffic volume fluctuations, and peak-hour behavior. This information provided insights into potential factors contributing to crashes. By analyzing LiDAR data, the study identified near-miss incidents, which are often precursors to actual crashes. This proactive approach could assist in identifying crash-prone areas within the intersection. The LiDAR data analysis also focused on pedestrian and cyclist movements, including jaywalking and bike lane usage. The aim was to identify areas where infrastructure improvements could enhance safety for vulnerable road users. LiDAR data was compared with historical crash data to identify specific locations within the intersection that exhibited a high frequency of crashes. This information can guide targeted safety interventions. Last but not least, the study explored opportunities to optimize traffic signal timings based on real-time traffic data from LiDAR. Adaptive signal control could help mitigate congestion and reduce the risk of crashes.The results of this study demonstrated the potential of LiDAR sensor technology in collecting detailed data for traffic analysis in signalized intersections. By combining LiDAR data with historical crash records and traffic flow data, traffic engineers and urban planners can develop evidence-based strategies to reduce the frequency and severity of crashes in high-risk areas. Ultimately, this research contributes to a comprehensive understanding of how LiDAR technology can be employed to enhance road safety and traffic management, providing valuable insights for traffic engineers, urban planners, and policymakers seeking to improve the safety and efficiency of signalized intersections with a history of high traffic crashes.

In this work, we propose a generalized partially functional linear model, which not only models the relationship between multiple scalar and functional predictors and response, but also automatically estimates the link function. Specifically, we use the functional principal component analysis method to reduce the dimensionality of functional predictors, estimate the regression coefficients using the maximum likelihood estimation method, estimate the link function using the method of local linear regression, iteratively obtain the final estimator, and prove the asymptotic normality of the estimator. The asymptotic normality is illustrated through simulation experiments. Finally, the proposed model is applied to study the influence of environmental, economic, and medical levels on life expectancy in China. In the study functional predictors are the daily air quality index, temperature, and humidity of 58 cities in 2020 and scalar predictors are GDP and number of beds in hospitals.

This study leverages transformer-based models and focuses on data representation strategies in the named entity recognition task, including "single" (one sentence per vector), "merged" (multiple sentences per vector), and "context" (sentences joined with attention to context). Performance analysis reveals that models trained with a single strategy may not perform well on different data representations. A combined training procedure is proposed to address this limitation, using all three strategies to enhance the stability and adaptability of the model. The results of this approach are presented and discussed for various datasets for four languages (English, Polish, Czech, and German), demonstrating the effectiveness of the combined strategy.

Immersive Unit Visualization is an emergent form of visualization that arose from Immersive Analytics where, unlike traditional visualizations, each data point is represented by an individual visual mark in an immersive virtual environment. This practice has focused almost exclusively on virtual reality, excluding augmented reality (AR). This article develops and tests a prototype of an immersive Unit Visualization (Floating Companies II) with two AR devices: head-mounted display (HMD) and hand-held display (HHD). Results from the testing sessions with 20 users were analyzed through qualitative research analysis and thematic coding indicating that, while the HHD enabled a first contact with AR visualization on a familiar device, HMD improved the perception of hybrid space by supporting greater stability of virtual content; wider field of view; improved spatial perception; increased sense of immersion; and more realistic simulation, which impacted on information reading and sense-making. The materialization of abstract quantitative values into concrete reality through its simulation in the real environment and the ludic dimension stand out as important opportunities of this type of visualization. This paper investigates the aspects distinguishing two experiences regarding data visualization in hybrid space; and characterizes ways of seeing information with AR, identifying opportunities to advance information design research.

Historically, the lack of comprehensive and real-time data is the main challenge in city sustainability assessments. However, with the increase in the availability of crowdsourced data over the last decade, a rich and real-time data source provides detailed images of urban systems. This has opened up new opportunities for practitioners, including geographers, social researchers, and data scientists, to gather and utilize social media data as a core source for studying cities and assessing their sustainability. This paper proposes an assessment model for the sustainability of cities based on crowdsourced data and the principles of General System Theory. The model aims to utilize crowdsourced data for the analysis and decision-making processes to enhance the sustainability and resilience of smart future cities.

In the realm of mathematics education, self-explanation stands as a crucial learning mechanism, allowing learners to articulate their comprehension of intricate mathematical concepts and strategies. As digital learning platforms grow in prominence, there are mounting opportunities to collect and utilize mathematical self-explanations. However, these opportunities are met with challenges in automated evaluation. Automatic scoring of mathematical self-explanations is crucial for preprocessing tasks, including the categorization of learner responses, identification of common misconceptions, and the creation of tailored feedback and model solutions. Nevertheless, this task is hindered by the dearth of ample sample sets. Our research introduces a semi-supervised technique using the Language Learning Model (LLM), specifically its Japanese variant, to enrich datasets for the automated scoring of mathematical self-explanations. We rigorously evaluated the quality of self-explanations across five datasets, ranging from human-evaluated originals to ones devoid of original content. Our results show that combining LLM-based explanations with mathematical material significantly improves the model's accuracy. Interestingly, there's an optimal limit to how much synthetic self-explanation data can bene-fit the system. Exceeding this limit doesn't further improve outcomes. This study thus highlights the need for careful consideration when integrating synthetic data into solutions, especially within the mathematics discipline.

The proliferation of physiological sensors opens new opportunities to explore interactions, conduct experiments and evaluate the user experience with continuous monitoring of bodily functions. Commercial devices, however, can be costly or limit access to raw waveform data, while low-cost sensors are efforts-intensive to setup. To address these challenges, we introduce PhysioKit, an open-source, low-cost physiological computing toolkit. PhysioKit consists of (i) a sensor and hardware layer that can be configured in a modular manner per research needs, (ii) a software application layer that enables data acquisition, real-time visualization and machine learning (ML)-enabled signal quality assessment. This also supports basic visual biofeedback configurations and synchronized acquisition for co-located or remote multi-user settings. In a validation study for photo-plethysmography (PPG) sensor with 15 participants, PhysioKit shows strong agreement with research-grade PPG sensors. Furthermore, we report usability survey results from 10 micro-project teams (44 individual members in total) who use PhysioKit for 4-6 weeks, providing insights into its use cases and research benefits. We conclude by discussing extensibility and potential impact of the toolkit on the research community.

In recent years, groups of cyber criminals/hackers have carried out cyber-attacks using various tactics with the goal of destabilizing web services in a specific context for which they are motivated. Predicting these attacks is a critical task that assists in determining what actions should be taken to mitigate the effects of such attacks and to prevent them in the future. Although there are programs to detect security concerns on the internet, there is currently no system that can anticipate or foretell whether the attacks will be successful. This research aims to develop sustain-able strategies to reduce threats, vulnerability, and data manipulation of chatbots, consequently improving cyber security. To achieve this goal, we develop a conversational chatbot, an application that uses artificial intelligence (AI) to communicate, and deploy it on social media sites (e.g., Twitter) for cyber security purposes. Chatbots have the capacity to consume large amounts of information and give an appropriate response in an efficient and timely manner, thus rendering them useful in predicting threats emanating from social media. The research utilizes sentiment analysis strategy by employing chatbots on Twitter (and analyzing Twitter data) for predicting future threats and cyber-attacks. The strategy is based on a daily collection of tweets from two types of users: those who use the platform to voice their opinions on important and relevant subjects, and those who use it to share information on cyber security attacks. The research pro-vides tools and strategies for developing chatbots that can be used for assessing cyber threats on social media through sentiment analysis leading to a global sustainable development of businesses. Future research may utilize and improvise on the tools and strategies suggested in our research to strengthen the knowledge domain of chatbots, cyber security, and social media.

Global climate change and associated environmental extremes present a pressing need to understand and predict social-environmental impacts while identifying opportunities for mitigation and adaptation. In support of informing a more resilient future, emerging data analytics technologies can leverage the growing availability of Earth observations from diverse data sources ranging from satellites to sensors to social media. Yet, there remains a need to transition from research for knowledge gain to sustained operational deployment. In this paper, we use the Wisdom-Knowledge-Information-Data (WKID) Innovation framework to inform solutions-oriented science in an integrated Research to Commercialization (R2C) model that explores market viability for value-added analytics. We conduct a case study using this R2C model to address the wicked wildfire problem. By integrating WKID and human centered design (HCD), through an industry-university partnership called the Climate Innovation Collaboratory between the University of Colorado Boulder and Deloitte Consulting, we systematically evaluated 39 different user stories across 8 user personas and identified common gaps, how to define information technologies that add value, and how to develop a marketable product. This R2C model could enable transition of knowledge to operational implementation informing policy and decision makers, tasked with addressing some of our most challenging environmental problems.

Species richness is a widely used measure for assessing the diversity of a particular area. However, observed richness often underestimates the true richness due to resource limitations, particularly in the small-sized sample or highly heterogeneous assemblage. Estimating species richness in a large-scale region typically involves an integrated data set consisting of subsamples collected independently from different subregions. However, the pooled sample of integrated data is no longer a random sample from the entire region, and the use of different sampling schemes results in variations in data formats. Consequently, employing a single sampling distribution to model the pooled sample becomes impractical, rendering existing richness estimators inadequate. This study theoretically explains the applicability of Chao's lower bound estimators in estimating species richness for large-scale areas using the pooled sample. Additionally, a new nonparametric estimator is introduced, which adjusts the bias of Chao's lower bound estimator by leveraging the Good-Turing frequency formula. This proposed estimator only utilizes the pooled sample's singleton, doubleton, and tripleton richness. Simulated data sets across various models are employed to demonstrate the statistical performance of the estimator, showcasing its ability to reduce bias and provide accurate 95% confidence intervals. Real data sets are also utilized to illustrate the practical application of the proposed approach.

Personalized recommendation is an important part of ecommerce platform. In the recommendation system, the neural network is used to enhance collaborative filtering to accurately capture user preferences, so as to obtain better recommendation performance. Traditional recommendation methods focused on the results of a single user behavior, ignoring the modeling of multiple interactive behaviors of users, such as click, add to cart and purchase. Although many studies had also focused on Multi-Behavior modeling, two important challenges remained. 1)Since multiple behavioral context information was ignored, it was still a challenge to identify the multimodal relationships of behaviors. 2) Surveillance signals were still sparse. In order to solve this problem, this paper proposes Two-path Multi-behavior Sequence Modeling(TP_MB). First, a two-path learning strategy is introduced to maximize the multiple interaction information of user items learned by the two paths, which effectively enhances the robustness of the model. Second, a multi-behavior dependent encoder is designed. Contextual information is obtained through behavior dependencies in the interaction of different user. In addition, three contrastive learning methods are designed, which not only obtain additional auxiliary supervision signals, but also alleviate the problem of sparse supervision signals. Extensive experiments on two real datasets demonstrate that our method outperforms state-of-the-art multi-behavior recommendation methods.

This paper presents the design and implementation of a versatile IoT testbed utilizing the openHab platform along with various wireless interfaces, including Z-Wave, ZigBee, WiFi, 4G-LTE, and IR, and an array of sensors for motion, temperature, luminance, humidity, vibration, UV, and energy consumption. First, the testbed architecture, setup, basic testing, and collected data results are described. Then, by showcasing a typical day in the laboratory, we illustrate the testbed's potential through the collection and analysis of data from multiple sensors. The study also explores the capabilities of the openHab platform, including its robust persistence layer, event management, real-time monitoring, and customization. The significance of the testbed in enhancing data-collection methodologies for energy assets and unlocking new possibilities in the realm of IoT technologies is particularly highlighted.

Lodging is a common problem in maize production that seriously impacts yield, quality, and the capacity for mechanical harvesting. Evaluation of site-specific lodging risks requires establishment of a method for multi-year monitoring. In this study, spectral images collected by the Sentinel-2 satellite were processed to obtain three types of data: gray-level co-occurrence matrix texture (GLCM), vegetation indices (VIs), and spectral reflectance (SR). Lodging classification models were then established with Random Forest (RF) using each of the three data types separately (the GLCM, VI, and SR models) and in combination (SR+VI model, SR+GLCM model, VI+GLCM mod-el, and SR+VI+GLCM model). By gradually removing features with low importance scores from the SR+VI+GLCM model and analyzing the changes in the overall accuracy (OA), the optimal set of predictive variables was identified and used to construct the optimal model. A model built us-ing data from a single timepoint in 2021 was tested on data collected at a similar timepoint in 2019 and vice versa to assess interannual model generalizability. The results of this study demon-strate that for monitoring maize lodging, models constructed with a single feature type, the GLCM model had significantly lower accuracy compared to the VI and SR models. During certain growth stages, the model constructed with combined features had significantly higher accuracy in monitoring maize lodging compared to models constructed with a single feature. During the pro-cess of selecting the optimal predictive variables, it was found that the accuracy of the model did not increase as the number of predictive variables increased. The results show that the positive and negative validation models had an accuracy of 96.55% and 95.18%, with kappa values of 0.93 and 0.83, respectively. This indicates that the model has strong generality for the same repro-ductive stage between years. This study provides a detailed method for large-scale maize lodging monitoring, allowing for identification of optimal planting practices to reduce the probability of lodging and ultimately improving regional maize yield and quality.

Different toll collection types of vehicles and different distribution of tollbooths lead to the toll plaza diverging area becoming a typical vehicle weaving area with frequent crossing behaviors and conflicts on highways. This study aims to identify contributing factors to conflict risks of four vehicle-following patterns in a toll plaza diverging area by developing random parameters ordered logit models with heterogeneity in means and variances. The model can flexibly capture the unobserved heterogeneity of the contributing factors in different vehicle-following patterns. Real-world vehicle trajectory data obtained from the toll plaza diverging area in Nanjing, China, are used for model estimation. The results show that vehicle-following patterns with the same toll collection types have higher percentage of severe conflict risks. The average acceleration of the following vehicles, lane marking indicator, the initial lanes and lane-changes of vehicles are significantly associated with the collision risk levels. The standard deviation of surrogate safety measures of all vehicles in sub-segments are found differ significantly between vehicle-following patterns. Furthermore, a series of likelihood ratio tests are adopted to test the spatial dependence in sub-segments of the diverging area. The findings of this study could provide valuable information for safety improvement in toll plazas.

This paper proposes an optimal trading algorithm based on a novel application of the conventional Control Engineering (CE). We consider a fundamental CE concept, namely, the feedback control and apply it to the Algorithmic Trading (AT). The concrete feedback control strategy is designed in a form of the celebrated Proportional-Integral-Derivative (PID) model. The highly fluctuating nature of the modern financial markets has led to the adoption of a model-free realisation of the generic PID framework. The control theoretical methodology we propose is combined with the advanced statistics for the historical market data. We obtain a specific log-normal probability distribution function (pdf) associated with the specific quantities associated with the available stock data. The empirical log-normal pdf mentioned above makes it possible the necessary PID gains optimization. For this aim, we apply the data-driven optimization approaches and consider the corresponding Monte Carlo solution procedure. The optimized PID trading algorithm we propose is also studied in the Fourier analysis framework. This equivalent frequency domain representation involves a new concept in the financial engineering, namely, the "stock market energy" concept. For the evaluation, we implement the proposed PID optimal trading algorithm and develop a Python based prototype software. We finally apply the corresponding prototype software to a dataset from the Binance BTC / USDT stock market. The experimental result illustrates the implementability of the proposed optimal PID trading scheme and also shows the effectiveness of the proposed CE methods in the modern AT.

This study aims to investigate the influence of various economic, environmental, and social factors on sustainable development, with a specific focus on the impact of green technology and climate change adaptation. A panel dataset comprising 38 OECD member countries from 1990 to 2020 is employed, and a series of dynamic panel data models are estimated using the system generalized method of moments (GMM) approach. Numerous covariates, such as globalization, socio-economic conditions, economic and political values, climate and technological progress, and environmental determinants, are examined. The empirical findings highlight the significant role played by macroeconomic, institutional, social, and government policy-related factors in sustainable development. More importantly, our results provide novel and robust evidence that the diffusion of green technology and climate change adaptation positively affect green growth. The study's empirical outcomes are demonstrated to be robust to misspecification errors and statistically significant at traditional significance levels. These findings carry substantial policy implications for the development and implementation of strategies that promote climate change adaptation and green innovation. Consequently, policymakers should prioritize the integration of green technology and adaptive measures in their sustainable development agendas to foster a greener, more resilient future.

This paper presents a new information technology platform specially tailored for infrastructure asset management of urban water systems operated by water utilities of lower digital maturity level, developed in the scope of DECIdE research project. This platform aims at the integration of different data from the water utilities with several information systems and the assessment of the system performance, in terms of water losses, energy efficiency and quality of service by using developed tools (i.e., water and energy balances and key performance indicators). This platform was tested with data from five small to medium size Portuguese water utilities with different maturity levels in terms of technological and human resources. Obtained results are very promising since the platform allows to assess the systems performance periodically which constitute an important part of the infrastructure asset management for small and medium-sized water utilities

In this paper after introducing a model of binary data matrix (BDM) for physical parameters of an evolving system (of particles), we develop a Hilbert space as an ambient space to derive induced metric tensor on embedded parametric manifold identified by associated joint probabilities of particles observables (parameters). Parameter manifold assumed as space-like hypersurface evolving along time axis, an approach that resembles 3+1 formalism of ADM and numerical relativity. We show the relation of endowed metric with related density matrix. Identification of system density matrix by this metric tensor, leads to the equivalence of quantum Liouville equation and metric compatibility condition while covariant derivative of metric tensor has been calculated respect to Wick rotated time or spatial coordinates. After deriving a formula for expected energy per particles, we prove the equality of this expected energy with local scalar curvature of related manifold. We show the compatibility of BDM model with Hamilton-Jacobi formalism and canonical forms. On the basis of the model, I derive the Ricci flow like dynamics as the governing dynamics and subsequently derive the action of BDM model and Einstein field equations. Given examples clarify the compatibility of the results with well-known principles such as equipartition energy principle and Landauer’s principle. This model provides a background for geometrization of quantum mechanics compatible with curved manifolds and information geometry. Finally, we conclude a “bit density principle” which predicts the Planck equation, De Broglie wave particle relation, , Beckenstein bound and Bremermann limit.

Abstract: Understanding social media networks and group interactions are crucial to the ad-vancement of linguistic and cultural behaviour. This includes the manner in which people ac-cessed advice on health, especially during the global lockdown periods. Some people turned to social media to access information on health where most activities were curtailed with isolation rules, especially for older generations. Facebook public pages, groups and verified profiles, using "senior citizen health", "older generations", and "healthy living" keywords were analysed over a 12-month period to analyse the engagement promoting good mental health. CrowdTangle was used to source English language status updates, photo and video sharing information which resulted in an initial 116,321 posts and 6,462,065 interactions Data analysis and visualisation were used to explore large datasets, including natural language processing for “Message” content discovery, word frequency and correlational analysis and co-word clustering. Preliminary results indicate strong links to healthy aging information shared on social media which showed correla-tions to global daily confirmed case and daily death totals. The results can be used to identify public concerns early on and address mental health issues in the senior generation on Facebook.

In Ref. [1] Snider et al reported room temperature superconductivity in carbonaceous sulfur hydride (CSH) under high pressure. Recently the data for the temperature dependent ac magnetic susceptibility shown in figures of Ref [1] have appeared in the form of tables corresponding to different pressures [2]. Here we provide an analysis of the data for a pressure of 160 GPa. This work was performed in collaboration with D. van der Marel.
