This paper introduces a groundbreaking approach to enriching the museum experience using GPT4, a state-of-the-art language model by OpenAI. By developing a museum guide powered by GPT4, we aim to address the challenges visitors face in navigating vast collections of artifacts and interpreting their significance. Leveraging the model’s natural language understanding and generation capabilities, our guide offers personalized, informative, and engaging experiences. However, caution must be exercised as the generated information may lack scientific integrity and accuracy. To mitigate this, we propose incorporating human oversight and validation mechanisms. The subsequent sections present our own case study, detailing the design, architecture, and experimental evaluation of the museum guide system, highlighting its practical implementation and insights into the benefits and limitations of employing GPT4 in the cultural heritage context.

Integrating artificial intelligence (AI) and natural language processing (NLP) technologies with project-based learning experiences in Science,Technology, Reading, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics (STREAM) education offers the potential to enhance student engagement, critical thinking,problem-solving, and interdisciplinary learning. This paper presents a comprehensive approach to implementing AI and NLP technologies, such as ChatGPT, in STREAM project-based learning experiences, highlighting the potential advantages and challenges of this innovative educational approach. The proposed method encompasses personalized learning pathways, AI-powered research assistance, collaborative AI tools, real-time feedback, virtual mentoring, advanced simulation, and objective assessment. We also discuss the implications of this integration for educators, institutions, and students, along with recommendations for future research and development in this emerging field.

The COVID-19 pandemic has affected millions of people globally, with respiratory organs being strongly affected in individuals with comorbidities. Medical imaging-based diagnosis and prognosis have become increasingly popular in clinical settings to detect COVID-19 lung infections. Among various medical imaging modalities, ultrasound stands out as low-cost, mobile, and radiation-safe imaging technology. In this comprehensive review, we focus on ultrasound-based AI studies for COVID-19 detection that use public or private lung ultrasound datasets. We surveyed articles that used publicly available lung ultrasound datasets for COVID-19 and reviewed publicly available datasets and organize ultrasound-based AI studies per dataset. We analyzed and tabulated studies in several dimensions, such as data preprocessing, AI models, cross-validation, and evaluation criteria. In total, we reviewed 42 articles, where 28 articles used public datasets, and the rest used private data. Our findings suggest that ultrasound-based AI studies for the detection of COVID-19 have great potential for clinical use, especially for children and pregnant women. Our review also provides a useful summary for future researchers and clinicians who may be interested in the field.

Abstract ObjectivesThe aim of this perspective is to report the use of synthetic data as a viable method in women’s health given the current challenges linked to obtaining life-course data within a short period of time and accessing electronic healthcare data. Methods We used a 3-point perspective method to report an overview of data science, common applications, and ethical implications. Results There are several ethical challenges linked to using real-world data, consequently, generating synthetic data provides an alternative method to conduct comprehensive research when used effectively. The use of clinical characteristics to develop synthetic data is a useful method to consider. Aligning this data as closely as possible to the clinical phenotype would enable researchers to provide data that is very similar to that of the real-world. Discussion Population diversity and disease characterisation is important to optimally use data science. There are several artificial intelligence techniques that can be used to develop synthetic data. ConclusionSynthetic data demonstrates promise and versatility when used efficiently aligned to clinical problems. Therefore, exploring this option as a viable method in women’s health, in particular for epidemiology may be useful.

This paper investigates the dynamic properties of artificial neural networks using differential equations and explores the influence of parameters on stability and neural oscillations. By analyzing the equilibrium point of the differential equations, we identify conditions for asymptotic stability and criteria for oscillation in artificial neural networks. Furthermore, we demonstrate how adjusting synaptic weights between neurons can effectively control stability and oscillation. The proposed model offers potential insights into the malfunctioning mechanisms of biological neural networks implicated in neurological disorders like Parkinson's disease tremors and epilepsy seizures, which are characterized by abnormal oscillations.

As a fundamental, overall, and strategic issue facing human society, human migration is a key factor affecting the development of countries and cities given constantly changing population numbers. The fuzziness of the spatiotemporal attributes of human migration limits the pool of open-source data for human migration prediction, leading to a relative lag in human migration prediction algorithm research. This study expands the definition of human migration research, reviews the progress of research into human migration prediction, and classifies and compares human migration algorithms based on open-source data. It also explores the critical uncertainty factors restricting the development of human migration prediction. Given the effect of human migration prediction, in combination with artificial intelligence and big data technology, the paper concludes with specific suggestions and countermeasures aimed at enhancing human migration prediction research results to serve economic and social development and national strategy.

The global COVID-19 pandemic has affected all spheres of human life, resulting in millions of deaths and overwhelming medical facilities. Moreover, the world has witnessed great financial hardship because of job losses resulting in economic havoc. Many sections of society have contributed in different ways to slow the spread of the virus and protect public health. For example, medical scientists are praised for their efforts to develop COVID-19 vaccines. Clinical trials have shown that the COVID-19 vaccines are highly effective in preventing symptomatic COVID-19 infections. However, many people around the world have been hesitant to get vaccinated. Vaccine misconceptions have emerged and increased due to a combination of factors, including the availability of information on the Internet and the influence of celebrities and opinion leaders. In this context, we have analyzed ChatGPT responses to relevant queries on vaccine misconceptions. The positive responses and supportive opinions provided by the AI chatbot could be instrumental in shaping people’s perceptions of vaccines and in encouraging users to get vaccinated and reduce misconceptions.

Psychomotor developmental delay in infants includes failure to acquire abilities such as sitting, walking, grasping objects and communication at the ages when most infants have acquired these abilities. Known risk factors include a large number of aspects of family environment, socioeconomic position, problems in pregnancy and birth, and maternal health. It is clinically useful to be able to screen for developmental delay so that healthcare interventions can be considered. The present research used machine learning (random forest) to create an algorithm predicting psychomotor delay in 9-month-old infants using information ascertainable at birth and in early infancy. The dataset was the UK longitudinal Millennium Cohort study. Fifty-two predictors measuring socioeconomic indicators, paternal, family and social support for the mother, beliefs about good parenting, maternal health, pregnancy and birth were included in the initial algorithm. Feature reduction showed that of the 52 variables, birthweight, family income and parents’ ages had the highest feature importance scores and could alone correctly predict developmental delay with over 99% sensitivity and 100% specificity. The relationships between delay and some of the predictors, particularly income, were nonlinear and complex. The results suggest that the risk of psychomotor developmental delay can be identified in early infancy using machine learning, and that the best predictors are factors present prior to birth. Surprisingly, the most important factors included in the present study did not include illnesses during pregnancy such as eclampsia and infections.

The performance of modern wireless communication systems is highly dependent on the adoption of multiple antennas and the associated signal processing. In 5G and 6G networks, beamforming and beam management become challenging tasks due to aspects such as user mobility, increased number of antennas, and the adoption of higher frequencies. Artificial intelligence, and more specifically, machine learning, are efficient tools to reduce the complexity involved in generating beams and the overhead associated with beam management without sacrificing system performance. Therefore, AI-aided beamforming and beam management have received a lot of attention recently. This article presents a complete survey on this topic, emphasizing open problems and promising directions. The discussion includes architectural and signal processing aspects of modern beamforming and beam management. The article presents communication problems and respective solutions using centralized/decentralized, supervised/unsupervised, semi-supervised, active, federated, and reinforcement learning.

This study utilised an ensemble of pre-trained networks and digital mammograms to develop a supplementary diagnostic tool for radiologists. Digital mammograms and their associated information were collected from the department of radiology and pathology, Hospital Universiti Sains Malaysia. Thirteen pre-trained networks were selected and explored in this study. ResNet101V2 and ResNet152 had the highest mean PR-AUC, MobileNetV3Small and ResNet152 had the highest mean precision, ResNet101 had the highest mean F1 score, and ResNet152 and ResNet152V2 had the highest mean Youden J index. Subsequently, three ensemble models were developed using the top three pre-trained networks based on PR-AUC, precision, and F1 score. The final ensemble model had a mean precision, F1 score, and Youden J index of 0.82, 0.68, and 0.12, respectively. Additionally, the final model demonstrated a balanced performance across mammographic density. In conclusion, this study exhibited the good performance of the ensemble transfer learning on digital mammograms for the purpose of breast cancer risk estimation. This model can be utilised as a supplementary diagnostic tool for radiologists, thus, reducing their workloads.

An artificial intelligence (AI)-based conversational large language model (LLM) was launched in November 2022 namely, “ChatGPT”. Despite the wide array of potential applications of LLMs in healthcare education, research and practice, several valid concerns were raised. The current systematic review aimed to investigate the possible utility of ChatGPT and to highlight its limitations in healthcare education, research and practice. Using the PRIMSA guidelines, a systematic search was conducted to retrieve English records in PubMed/MEDLINE and Google Scholar under the term “ChatGPT”. Eligibility criteria included the published research or preprints of any type that discussed ChatGPT in the context of healthcare education, research and practice. A total of 280 records were identified, and following full screening, a total of 60 records were eligible for inclusion. Benefits/applications of ChatGPT were cited in 51/60 (85.0%) records with the most common being the utility in scientific writing followed by benefits in healthcare research (efficient analysis of massive datasets, code generation and rapid concise literature reviews besides utility in drug discovery and development). Benefits in healthcare practice included cost saving, documentation, personalized medicine and improved health literacy. Concerns/possible risks of ChatGPT use were expressed in 58/60 (96.7%) records with the most common being the ethical issues including the risk of bias, plagiarism, copyright issues, transparency issues, legal issues, lack of originality, incorrect responses, limited knowledge, and inaccurate citations. Despite the promising applications of ChatGPT which can result in paradigm shifts in healthcare education, research and practice, the embrace of this application should be done with extreme caution. Specific applications of ChatGPT in health education include the promising utility in personalized learning tools and shift towards more focus on critical thinking and problem-based learning. In healthcare practice, ChatGPT can be valuable for streamlining the workflow and refining personalized medicine. Saving time for the focus on experimental design and enhancing research equity and versatility are the benefits in scientific research. Regarding authorship in scientific articles, as it currently stands, ChatGPT does not qualify to be listed as an author unless the ICJME/COPE guidelines are revised and amended. An initiative involving all stakeholders involved in healthcare education, research and practice is urgently needed to set a code of ethics and conduct on the responsible practices involving ChatGPT among other LLMs.

This paper is introducing KABADA (Knowledge Alliance of Business Idea Assessment: Digital Approach) unique tool, together with opinions of young people about entrepreneurship, their skills and experience with this tool. The focus is on non-business students who study natural sciences, engineering and other areas at the Faculty of Forestry and Wood Technology at Mendel University in Brno, Czech Republic. KABADA tool has been developed and tested by a team of international experts. It can be used to improve forester management. This structured, Web-based, platform which is based on theoretical research, relevant statistics, and artificial intelligence insights, guides entrepreneurs through every step of the way including what challenges and opportunities lie ahead. The research included survey answers from 60 university students before and after using KABADA tool. The results show that students are interested in entrepreneurship but do not have the knowledge, experience and support from curriculum. Majority of students had no or very low experience with entrepreneurship nor any entrepreneurship training or study course before. After using the tool, students declared to have higher knowledge of entrepreneurship and the number of students who intended to become an entrepreneur increased. The tool is available on-line, free of charge.

Counting in terms of cycles allows modeling many processes of Nature. We make use of a slight numerical incongruence within the numbering system to find a translational mechanism which connects sequential ↔ commutative properties of assemblies. The algorithms allow picturing the logical syntax Nature uses when reading the DNA. Ordering a collection on two different properties of its members will impose two differing sequences on the members. The coordinates of a point on a plane of which the axes are the two sorting orders sidestep the logical contradiction arising from the different linear assignments. During a reorder, elements aggregate into cycles. Using an etalon collection of simple logical symbols (which are pairs of natural numbers), which we reorder, we see typical movement patterns along the path of the string of elements that are members of the same cycle. We split the {value, position} descriptions of a natural number and observe the places the unit occupies at specific instances of time among its peers, while being a member of a cycle, under different orders prevailing. Which places elements occupy among their peers, under specific order conditions, is determined by numeric properties of the natural numbers that make up the element. The model presented is therefore tautologic, and can be compared to a hybrid of sudokus with the ultimate form of Rubik‘s cube. It is necessary for the reader to do some self-education on the matter of cycles as a prerequisite to understanding the working principle of the model. The contraption being a new development, it can’t have references in literature.One cannot lose a bet on the idea that sorting and ordering a collection of elementary logical elements will turn up typical patterns and that these archetypes of patterns will be of interest to Theoretical Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Information Theory, and some other fields, too.

Dry eye disease (DED) is one of the most common eye diseases. There is at least one DED patient in almost every five people. AI-based research methods increasingly become the focus of DED diagnosis research. This study utilizes a systematic review method on DED AI-based diagnosis. 2112 unduplicated records are extracted from Google Scholar, Web of Science (WOS), PubMed, China National Knowledge Infrastructure (CNKI), and Scopus databases. The most contributed countries, institutions, authors, journals, references, and disciplines are recognized. Keyword distribution and hot topics are identified. Popular databases of ophthalmic images, videos, and electronic demographic medical records are discussed. The DED diagnosis, classification, and grading criteria are identified. The major diagnosing methods are clustered, compared, and investigated. Findings show that diagnosing method research could be classified into three categories based on the relationship between AI techniques, which are (1) ground truth and/or comparable standards for AI DED diagnosis (TBUT, S Ⅰ T, TMH, and OSDI), (2) potential methods for AI-based methods have a great advantage(DED detection based on meibometry Images, CASPs, IVCM Images, OCT Images, blink videos and ultrasonic imaging), (3) and the potential direction and supplemented methods for AI-based DED detection (DED detections based on tear osmolarity, proteomic analysis, TCM and demographic information). AI-based approaches based on digital ophthalmologic images play an important role in early screening. Challenges and future perspectives are discussed at the end of this article, academically and practically.

Uncontrollable Zn dendrite formations and parasitic side reactions on Zn electrodes induce poor cycling stability and safety issues, preventing the large-scale commercialization of Zn-ion batteries. Herein, to achieve uniform Zn deposition and suppress side reactions, an electrospun ferroelectric poly(vinylidene fluoride-co-trifluoroethylene) copolymer, a [P(VDF-TrFE)] nanofiber layer, is introduced as an artificial solid-electrolyte interface on a Cu substrate acting as a current collector. The aligned molecular structure of β-P(VDF-TrFE) can effectively suppress localized current density on the Cu surface, lead to uniform Zn deposition, and suppress side reactions by preventing direct contact between electrodes and aqueous electrolytes. The half-cell configuration formed by the newly fabricated electrode can achieve an average coulombic efficiency of 99.2% over 300 cycles without short circuiting at a current density of 1 mA cm-2 and areal capacity of 1 mAh cm-2. Stable cycling stability is also maintained for 200 cycles at a current density of 0.5 A g-1 in a full-cell test using MnO2 as a cathode.

A correctly obtained Land-use/land-cover (LULC) prediction map is essential to under-standing and assessing future patterns. In the study, the LULC map of Urmia/Iran in 2030 was produced using two different prediction methods CA-Markov and Artificial Neural Network (ANN). In general, the study followed a methodology consisting of three steps. In the first steps, Landsat satellite images acquired in 2000, 2010 and 2020 were classified with maximum likelihood algorithm and LULC maps were prepared for each year. In the second stage, to investigate the LULC prediction methods' validation (CA-Markov and ANN) the LULC prediction map of 2020 was produced using the LULC map of 2000 and 2010; In this step, the predicted LULC map of 2020 and the actual LULC map of 2020 were evaluated by correctness, completeness and quality indexes. Finally, The LULC map for 2030 was prepared using all two algorithms and the change map was extracted. The results show that the area of soil and vegetation decreased, and built-up regions increased during the research period. The methods validation results show that the two algorithms are much closer to each other. Nevertheless, in general, ANN has the highest completeness (96.21%) and quality (93.8%) and CA-Markov the most correctness (96.47). This study shows that the CA-Markov algorithm is most successful in predicting the future that had larger areas and a higher percentage in the region (urban and vegetation cover) and the ANN algorithm in predicting phenomena that had smaller levels with fewer percentages (soil and rock).

As synthetic/artificial life forms become more abundant and sophisticated, an increasing number of bizarre creatures - xenobots, robots, soft A-life entities, genetically engineered organisms, etc. - are invading our society. Therefore, we need to bring order to all this, to establish what is living and what is not. Here, I intend to classify all these non-natural entities and clarify their status with reference to their consideration or not as living beings, leaving the door open to an uncertain future in which perhaps we can see how "the artificial" and "the natural" merge to originate something new. To order all this "new biodiversity" and to also give entry to viruses (which are excluded of the three-domains tree of life), I propose the creation of a new domain, Lithbea (from the name: life-in-the-border entities), in which all these new human-made entities as well as the viruses will be included. Within this domain there would be two kingdoms, Virus and Humade (contraction of human-made), based on their origin, natural or human-made. A brief description of each component of Lithbea is included and the implications for society and biology of this “new biodiversity” is briefly discussed.

This paper presents an extension of the results obtained in previous work concerning the application of global optimization techniques to the design of finite strategic games with mixed strategies. In that publication the Fuzzy ASA global optimization method was applied to many examples of synthesis of strategic games with one previously specified Nash equilibrium, evidencing its ability in finding payoff functions whose respective games present those equilibria, possibly among others. That is to say, it was shown it is possible to establish in advance a Nash equilibrium for a generic finite state strategic game and to compute payoff functions that will make it feasible to reach the chosen equilibrium, allowing players to converge to the desired profile, con- sidering that it is an equilibrium of the game as well. Going beyond this state of affairs, the present article shows that it is possible to ”impose” multiple Nash equilibria to finite strategic games by following the same reasoning as before, but with a fundamental change: using the same fundamental theorem of Richard McKelvey, modifying the originally prescribed objective function and globally minimizing it. The proposed method, in principle, is able to find payoff functions that result in games featuring an arbitrary number of Nash equilibria, paving the way to a substantial number of potential applications.

Computer systems that operate in remote locations such as satellites, remote weather stations and autonomous robots are highly limited in the availability of energy for their operation. This work aims to employ artificial intelligence algorithms in energy management in order to obtain the maximum energy yield and the prediction of energy availability to the system. The work presents the main types of algorithms used in artificial intelligence and presents the creation of a prototype that will operate as a low power system powered by batteries and a small solar plate, the prototype will perform inferences on the LSTM neural network algorithm in order to predict the future availability of energy, consequently the management system will carry out the energy distribution in order to obtain the maximum operation of the prototype without total discharge of the batteries. So that the artificial intelligence system could be embedded in the prototype, the TensorFlow Lite framework was used, which allows the inference to be carried out in devices with low consumption and limited processing power.

When we attempt to define life, we tend to refer to individuals, those that are alive. But these individuals might be cells, organisms, colonies... ecosystems? We can describe living systems at different scales. Which ones might be the best ones to describe different selves? I explore this question using concepts from information theory, ALife, and Buddhist philosophy. After brief introductions, I review the implications of changing the scale of observation, and how this affects our understanding of selves at different structural, temporal, and informational scales. The conclusion is that there is no single ``best'' scale for a self, as this will depend on the scale at which decisions must be made. Different decisions, different scales.

This paper describes a new generation of computational intelligence founded on the ancient idea of compassion called Artificial Compassion. The creation of Artificial Compassion is the result of two coinciding historical developments. The first is the increasing discoveries of human sciences in new fields like neuroendocrinology and psychoneuroimmunology. This provides the spark for Artificial Compassion. For example, we once thought with certainty that our brain is fixed for life but neuropsychology and a device called the fMRI have shown it is “plastic”. It changes constantly throughout our lives in response to our experiences. Remarkably, we also now know it is changed for the better through positive emotions like compassion, kindness and happiness. So, too, are the immune, endocrine, genetic, cardio and neural systems influenced and changed by our emotional experiences. This new perspective on emotions and plasticity validates much of ancient wisdom in medical systems outside the west. Long held assumptions about emotion are unsuitable for humanity. The second development is ‘machine rub off’. We are in symbiotic relation with our devices today and we are plastic. We are changed by our interactions but many people have computer rage. We need Artificial Compassion to replace computer rage with positive plasticity.

The widespread deployment of social media has helped researchers access an enormous amount of data in various domains, including the pandemic caused by the COVID-19 spread. This study presents a heuristic approach to classify Commercial Instagram Posts (CIPs) and explores how the businesses around the Holy Shrine – a sacred complex in Mashhad, Iran, surrounded by numerous shopping centers – were impacted by the pandemic. Two datasets of Instagram posts (one gathered data from March 14th to April 10th, 2020, when Holy Shrine and nearby shops were closed, and one extracted data from the same period in 2019), two word embedding models – aimed at vectorizing associated caption of each post, and two neural networks – multi-layer perceptron and convolutional neural network – were employed to classify CIPs in 2019. Among the scenarios defined for the 2019 CIPs classification, the results revealed that the combination of MLP and CBoW achieved the best performance, which was then used for the 2020 CIPs classification. It is found out that the fraction of CIPs to total Instagram posts has increased from 5.58% in 2019 to 8.08% in 2020, meaning that business owners were using Instagram to increase their sales and continue their commercial activities to compensate for the closure of their stores during the pandemic. Moreover, the portion of non-commercial Instagram posts (NCIPs) in total posts has decreased from 94.42% in 2019 to 91.92% in 2020, implying the fact that since the Holy Shrine was closed, Mashhad citizens and tourists could not visit it and take photos to post on their Instagram accounts.

This paper focuses on quantifying the uncertainty in the specific absorption rate values of brain induced by the uncertain positions of the electroencephalography electrodes placed on patient's scalp. To avoid running a large number of simulations, an artificial neural network architecture for uncertainty quantification involving high-dimensional data is proposed in this paper. The proposed method is demonstrated to be an attractive alternative to conventional uncertainty quantification methods because of its considerable advantage in the computational expense and speed.

Henry’s constants for different existing compounds in water have great importance in transfer calculations. Measurement of these constants face different difficulties including high costs of experiment and low accuracy of measurement apparatus. Due to these facts, proposing a low cost and accurate approach becomes highlighted. To this end, adaptive neuro-fuzzy inference system (ANFIS) and least squares support vector machine (LSSVM) have been used as Henry’s constant predictor tools. The molecular structure of compounds has been used as inputs of models. After training the models, the visual and mathematical studies of outputs have been done. The coefficients of determination of LSSVM and ANFIS algorithms are 0.999 and 0.990 respectively. According to the comprehensiveness of databank and accurate prediction of algorithms, it can be concluded that LSSVM and ANFIS algorithms are accurate methods for prediction of Henry’s constant in wide range of chemical structure of compounds in water.

We calculate the spectral function of a boson ladder in an artificial magnetic field by means of analytic approaches based on bosonization and Bogoliubov theory. We discuss the evolution of the spectral function at increasing effective magnetic flux, from the Meissner to the Vortex phase, focussing on the effects of incommensurations in momentum space. At low flux, in the Meissner phase, the spectral function displays both a gapless branch and a gapped one, while at higher flux, in the Vortex phase, the spectral function displays two gapless branches and the spectral weight is shifted at a wavevector associated to the underlying vortex spatial structure which can indicate a 8 supersolid-like behavior. While the Bogoliubov theory, valid at weak interactions, predicts sharp delta-like features in the spectral function, at stronger interactions we find power-law broadening of 10 the spectral functions due to quantum fluctuations as well as additional spectral weight at higher 11 momenta due to backscattering and incommensuration effects. These features could be accessed in 12 ultracold atom experiments using radio-frequency spectroscopy techniques.

Speech signals are degraded in real-life environments, product of background noise or other factors. The processing of such signals for voice recognition and voice analysis systems presents important challenges. One of the conditions that make adverse quality difficult to handle in those systems is reverberation, produced by sound wave reflections that travel from the source to the microphone in multiple directions.To enhance signals in such adverse conditions, several deep learning-based methods have been proposed and proven to be effective. Recently, recurrent neural networks, especially those with long and short-term memory (LSTM), have presented surprising results in tasks related to time-dependent processing of signals, such as speech. One of the most challenging aspects of LSTM networks is the high computational cost of the training procedure, which has limited extended experimentation in several cases. In this work, we present a proposal to evaluate the hybrid models of neural networks to learn different reverberation conditions without any previous information. The results show that some combination of LSTM and perceptron layers produce good results in comparison to those from pure LSTM networks, given a fixed number of layers. The evaluation has been made based on quality measurements of the signal's spectrum, training time of the networks and statistical validation of results. Results help to affirm the fact that hybrid networks represent an important solution for speech signal enhancement, with advantages in efficiency, but without a significan drop in quality.

In the present work, a novel and the robust computational investigation is carried out to estimate solubility of different acids in supercritical carbon dioxide. Four different algorithms such as radial basis function artificial neural network, Multi-layer Perceptron (MLP) artificial neural network (ANN), Least squares support vector machine (LSSVM) and adaptive neuro-fuzzy inference system (ANFIS) are developed to predict the solubility of different acids in carbon dioxide based on the temperature, pressure, hydrogen number, carbon number, molecular weight, and acid dissociation constant of acid. In the purpose of best evaluation of proposed models, different graphical and statistical analyses and also a novel sensitivity analysis are carried out. The present study proposed the great manners for best acid solubility estimation in supercritical carbon dioxide, which can be helpful for engineers and chemists to predict operational conditions in industries.

The first group to build artificial general intelligence or AGI stands to gain a significant strategic and market advantage over competitors, so companies, universities, militaries, and other actors have strong incentives to race to build AGI first. An AGI race would be dangerous, though, because it would prioritize capabilities over safety and increase the risk of existential catastrophe. A self-regulatory organization (SRO) for AGI may be able to change incentives to favor safety over capabilities and encourage cooperation rather than racing.

The real estate market is exposed to many fluctuations in prices, because of existing correlations with many variables, some of which cannot be controlled or might even be unknown. Housing prices can increase rapidly (or in some cases, also drop very fast), yet the numerous listings available online where houses are sold or rented are not likely to be updated that often. In some cases, individuals interested in selling a house (or apartment) might include it in some online listing, and forget about updating the price. In other cases, some individuals might be interested in deliberately setting a price below the market price in order to sell the home faster, for various reasons. In this paper we aim at developing a machine learning application that identifies opportunities in the real estate market in real time, i.e., houses that are listed with a price substantially below the market price. This program can be useful for investors interested in the housing market. We have focused in a use case considering real estate assets located in the Salamanca district in Madrid (Spain) and listed in the most relevant Spanish online site for home sales and rentals. The application is formally implemented as a regression problem, that tries to estimate the market price of a house given features retrieved from public online listings. For building this application, we have performed a feature engineering stage in order to discover relevant features that allows attaining a high predictive performance. Several machine learning algorithms have been tested, including regression trees, $k$-nearest neighbors, support vector machines and neural networks, identifying advantages and handicaps of each of them.

Because only two variables are needed to characterize a simple thermodynamic system in equilibrium, any such system is constrained on a 2D manifold. Of particular interest are the exact 1-forms on the cotangent space of that manifold, since the integral of exact 1-forms is path-independent, a crucial property satisfied by state variables such as internal energy dE and entropy dS. Our prior work [1] shows that given an appropriate language of vector calculus, a machine can re-discover the Maxwell equations and the incompressible Navier-Stokes equations from data. In this paper, We enhance this language by including differential forms and show that machines can re-discover the equation for entropy dS given data. Since entropy appears in various fields of science in different guises, a potential extension of this work is to use the machinery developed in this paper to let machines discover the expressions for entropy from data in fields other than classical thermodynamics.

Google services have shifted the use of technology in our daily lives, enhancing our communication, collaboration and access information. Given this pervasive influence, the aim of this analysis is to compare the predictions of Alphabet’s stock price using various datasets and machine learning models and understand which models perform better, not only in terms of predictive accuracy, but also in terms of explainability and robustness. To this aim, we have built three different database, considering the existing economic literature and trying to integrate features deriving from the analysis of the context in which the company works and, in particular, R&D costs from Alphabet’s annual financial reports. We have applied to the database different state of the art machine learning models, ranging from statistical learning models (linear regression), improved with Ridge regularisation, to classic machine learning models such as Gradient Boosting and artificial neural networks, to more recent deep learning models such as recurrent neural networks. Additionally, the models have been compared in terms of the recently proposed S.A.F.E. AI model, which includes metrics that can assess the Sustainability, Accuracy, Fairness and Explainability of AI application in a unified manner, with a metrics that is related to the Lorenz curve and the Area Under the ROC Curve. Our empirical findings show that the choice of the best model to employ to predict Google stock prices depends on the desired objective. If it accuracy, the recurrent neural network is the best model. If it is robustness, the Ridge linear model is the most resilient to changes. If it is explainability, the Gradient Boosting model is the best choice.

One widely used method to predict concrete strength development based on temperature variations during curing is the equivalent maturity time (te) method. This method uses the activation energy (Ea) as its key parameter, which reflects the cement’s sensitivity to temperature. However, research shows that the Ea value varies depending on factors such as cement type, water-cement ratio, temperature, and additives. The permanent subject of discussion is the question of what value of the Ea parameter should be assumed. In this paper, a new approach is proposed by using a neural network analysis method to develop a strength-temperature-time history model. It was assumed that the ANN-fc% model would have 4 inputs including hydration heat (Q), activation energy (Ea), temperature (T) and time (t). A data set was collected and research was carried out on mortars using: 6 cements, curing temperatures 5-35°C, strength within 90 days. The results showed that the ANN analysis method allows for estimating the relative compressive strength with sufficient accuracy. Input nodes analysis showed that Q influences early strength gain, while Ea affects later strength development. The method of using the ANN model to calculate strength depending on the temperature change during maturation was shown.

Gastrointestinal parasites (GIP) are diverse parasitic organisms known to have coevolved with bacterial populations inside the gut of mammalian hosts. These helminths produce small molecules, peptides and proteins to evade or fight their hosts' immune systems. Small molecules include polar compounds, amino acids, lipids and carbohydrates. Metabolomics is an emerging field of research recently applied to study helminth infections and host-parasite interactions. This review comprehensively discusses metabolomics studies of small molecules of GIP in animals, providing insights into the available tools and techniques, databases, and analytical software. Most metabolomics investigations employed LC-MS, MS or MS/MS, NMR, or a combination thereof. Recent advancements in metabolomics platforms, including artificial intelligence (AI)-assisted software tools and databases, have propelled helminth metabolomics forward, offering new avenues to explore host-parasite interactions, immunomodulation, and the intricacies of parasitism. As our understanding of helminth metabolomics continues to expand, it promises to unveil novel perspectives and enrich the knowledge of these complex host-parasite relationships.

The ever-increasing industrialization of certain areas of the planet combined with the simultaneous degradation of the natural environment are alarming phenomena, especially in the field of human health. The concentration of Particulate Matter with an aerodynamic diameter of 2.5μm (PM2.5) and 10μm (PM10), nitrogen oxides (NOx), carbon monoxide (CO), sulfur dioxide (SO2), and ozone (O3) needs constant monitoring, as they consist the main cause for many diseases. Based on the existence of statutory limits, by the World Health Organization (WHO), for the concentration of each of the aforementioned air pollutants, it is considered necessary to develop forecasting systems that will have the ability to correlate the current meteorological data with the concentrations of the above pollutants. In this work, the attempt to predict the air pollutants concentrations in the wider area of Beijing, China, is successfully carried out using artificial neural networks (ANNs) models. In the frame of the specific work, a significant number of ANNs was developed. For this purpose, an open-access meteorological and air pollution database was used. Finally, a statistical evaluation of the developed prognostic models was carried out. Results showed that ANNs present a re-markable prognostic ability in order to forecast the air pollution levels in an urban environment.

A smart precipitation estimation method based on FY-4B meteorological satellite data (FY-4B_AI) is proposed in this paper. This method spatiotemporally matches 125 features derived from multi-temporal and multi-channels of FY-4B satellite data with the precipitation at stations. Then a precipitation model using the Light Gradient Boosting Machine algorithm is constructed. Comparative results between FY-4B_AI and GPM/IMERG-L products for over 450 million station cases throughout 2023 shows that: 1) FY-4B_AI is superior to GPM IMERG-L in the average absolute error, root mean square error, relative error, correlation coefficient, probability of detection and critical success index. While in the mean error and false alarm rate, FY-4B_AI is slightly inferior to GPM/IMERG-L. 2) Evaluation of strong weather event applications reveals that both FY-4B_AI and GPM/IMERG-L can accurately represent the spatial distribution characteristics of precipitation, no matter in the southeast humid region or the northwest dry region. Notably, FY-4B_AI, due to its higher spatiotemporal resolution, provides a more detailed distribution of precipitation.

This article explores the specific impact of artificial intelligence (AI) -driven data visualisation technologies in the user experience of the Internet industry. Through the introduction of machine learning and data mining technologies, AI has significantly improved the intelligence and automation of data visualization tools, promoting innovation in visualization methods and improving the quality and efficiency of data cleaning, processing, and analysis. In addition, AI has also promoted the development of personalised data visualization, providing users with a richer and more intuitive way to present data. This paper analyses the applications of AI-driven data visualization in machine learning, natural language processing, and computer vision. It demonstrates the positive effects of AI data visualization on user understanding and optimisation of models through practical feedback from Yellowbrick tools.

Background/Objectives: the prevalence of metabolic syndrome (MetS) is increasing worldwide, and an increasing number of cases are diagnosed in younger age groups. This study aimed to propose predictive models based on demographic, anthropometric and clinical non-invasive variables to predict MetS in adolescent. Methods: a total of 2,064 adolescents aged 18-19 from São Luís-Maranhão-Brazil were enrolled. Demographic, anthropometric, and clinical variables were considered, and three criteria for diagnosing MetS were employed: Cook et al. (2003), De Ferranti et al. (2004), and the International Diabetes Federation (IDF, 2007). A feed-forward artificial neural network (ANN) was trained to predict MetS. Accurate, sensitivity, and specificity were calculated to assess the ANN performance. The ROC curve was constructed, and the area under the curve was analyzed to assess the discriminatory power of the networks. Results: the prevalence of MetS in adolescents ranged from 5.7% to 12.3%. The ANN that used the Cook et al. criterion performed best in predicting MetS. ANN 5, which included age, sex, waist circumference, weight, and systolic and diastolic blood pressure, showed the best performance and discriminatory power (sensitivity, 89.8%; accuracy, 86.8%). ANN 3 considered the same variables, except for weight, and exhibited good sensitivity (89.0%) and accuracy (87.0%). Conclusions: using non-invasive measures allows for predicting MetS in adolescents, thereby guiding the flow of care in primary healthcare and optimizing the management of public resources.

This study aims to evaluate the utilization and effectiveness of artificial intelligence (AI) applications in managing symptoms of anxiety and depression. The primary objectives are to identify current AI tools, analyze their practicality and efficacy, and assess their potential benefits and risks. A comprehensive literature review was conducted using databases such as ScienceDirect, Google Scholar, PubMed, and ResearchGate, focusing on publications from the last five years. The search utilized keywords including "artificial intelligence," "applications," "mental health," "anxiety," "LLMs" and "depression". Various AI tools, including chatbots, mobile applications, wearables, virtual reality settings, and large language models (LLMs), were examined and categorized based on their functions in mental health care. The findings indicate that AI applications, including LLMs, show significant promise in symptom management, offering accessible and personalized interventions that can complement traditional mental health treatments. Tools such as AI-driven chatbots, mobile apps, and LLMs have demonstrated efficacy in reducing symptoms of anxiety and depression, improving user engagement and mental health outcomes. LLMs, in particular, have shown potential in enhancing therapeutic chatbots, diagnostic tools, and personalized treatment plans by providing immediate support and resources, thus reducing the workload on mental health professionals. However, limitations include concerns over data privacy, the potential for over-reliance on technology, and the need for human oversight to ensure comprehensive care. Ethical considerations, such as data security and the balance between AI and human interaction, were also addressed. The study concludes that while AI, including LLMs, has the potential to significantly aid mental health care, it should be used as a complement to, rather than a replacement for, human therapists. Future research should focus on enhancing data security measures, integrating AI tools with traditional therapeutic methods, and exploring the long-term effects of AI interventions on mental health. Further investigation is also needed to evaluate the effectiveness of AI applications across diverse populations and settings.

Fixed-time artificial insemination is an important technique in swine production that can improve reproductive efficiency and meat production quality by making better use of the genetic potential of breeding males and reducing the costs associated with double or multiple inseminations. Our goal was to evaluate the vaginal application of the GnRH agonist triptorelin acetate to synchronize post-weaning sows and facilitate implantation of a single fixed-time insemination. In a first experiment, the efficacy of treatment with the triptorelin in animals with or without signs of estrus was analyzed using a single insemination at a fixed time compared to the control following the standard insemination strategy. Farrowing rate was comparable between triptorelin and control groups (100 vs. 87.50%), but triptorelin without estrus had a lower rate (50%). Litter size did not differ between groups. Estradiol and progesterone levels at 96- and 120-hours post-weaning were similar in the control and triptorelin groups (P>0.05). These results suggest that Triptorelin has the potential to synchronize ovulation in pigs without affecting post-weaning hormonal profiles. In a second experiment, the objective was to evaluate the productive and economic impact of implementing a treatment with triptorelin acetate 96 hours after weaning compared to the standard insemination protocol. Sows were grouped according to treatment (control vs. triptorelin) and estrus onset (≤5 days and >5 days after weaning considered as late estrus). Farrowing rate was lower in the control late estrus group than in the control and triptorelin groups and similar to the triptorelin late estrus group. No differences were found for litter size, live or dead piglets born (P>0.05). We developed an estimation model to assess the cost/benefit of intravaginal triptorelin administration at 96 h post-weaning. The overall result is that the use of triptorelin increases the benefit per inseminated sow in the range of €15-20. This improvement is mainly related to an increase in the reproductive performance of the treated sows compared to the control sows and the reduction in the number of inseminations per sow. These results highlight the potential of triptorelin to optimize reproductive management in pigs, improving efficiency and economic viability.

Additionally, chatbots employ advanced data analytics and machine learning to deliver personalized interactions, enhancing user engagement and satisfaction. Despite these benefits, the research identifies several challenges, including chatbots' difficulty in managing complex queries and their lack of emotional intelligence, which often necessitates escalation to human agents. The study also highlights the importance of well-designed chatbots and seamless integration with existing systems to ensure effective user experiences. Privacy and security concerns are critical, as chatbots handle sensitive customer data, requiring robust measures to protect against breaches and ensure compliance with data protection regulations. Looking ahead, advancements in technologies such as augmented reality (AR), virtual reality (VR), and artificial intelligence (AI) are expected to further enhance chatbot capabilities, addressing current limitations and expanding their role in customer service. The findings suggest that a hybrid approach, combining chatbots with human support, offers the most effective solution for delivering high-quality customer service. Overall, chatbots have proven to be valuable assets, and their continued evolution promises to significantly impact the future of customer service.

Background: Although several studies have been conducted on the use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in mammography (MG), research focusing on the diagnosis of metachronous bilateral breast cancer (BC), which is typically more challenging to diagnose, remains limited. This study assessed whether AI could enhance the detection of BC, achieving earlier or more accurate diagnoses than radiologists in cases of metachronous contralateral BC. Methods: The study included patients who underwent unilateral BC surgery and subsequently developed contralateral BC during follow-up. We evaluated the capability of the AI-supported MG diagnostic system FxMammo™ (FathomX Pte Ltd, Singapore) to diagnose BC more accurately or earlier than radiologists' assessments. This evaluation was supplemented by reviewing MG readings by radiologists. Results: Out of 1,101 patients who underwent surgery, 10 patients who had initially received a partial mastectomy and later developed contralateral BC were analyzed. The AI system identified malignancies in 6 cases (60%), while radiologists identified 5 cases (50%). Notably, two cases (20%) were diagnosed solely by the AI system. Additionally, for these cases, the AI system had identified malignancies a year prior to the conventional diagnosis. Conclusions: This study highlights the AI system's effectiveness in diagnosing metachronous contralateral BC via MG. In some cases, the AI system consistently diagnosed cancer at earlier than radiological assessments.

This narrative literature review aims to gather relevant literature discussing AI tools as supplementary support in aiding a learner's language acquisition. Relevant studies stated that there are a lot of chances to improve learning outcomes when AI tools are used in language acquisition. Teachers who want to give their students more resources and help should consider including these tools in their lessons. To preserve the interpersonal and cultural components of language learning, it is imperative to strike a balance between the application of AI and conventional teaching techniques. AI tools are always accessible, providing assistance to learners whenever needed. This is especially helpful for individuals with unpredictable schedules or restricted access to conventional language learning materials.

Generative adversarial networks (GANs) have become a recent and rapidly developing research topic in Machine Learning. Since their inception in 2014, a significant number of variants have been proposed to address various topics across many fields, and has particularly excelled not only in image and language processing, but also in the medical and data science domains. In this paper, we aim to highlight the significance and advance that these GAN models can introduce in the field of Business Economics, where they have yet to be fully developed. To this end, a review of the literature of GANs is presented in general together with a more specific review in the field of Business Economics wherein only a few papers can be found. Furthermore, the most relevant papers are analysed in order to provide an approach the opportunity to research into GANs in the field of Business Economics.

Developments in artificial intelligence techniques allow for an improvement in sustainable mobility strategies with particular reference to energy consumption estimates of electric vehicles (EVs). This research proposes a vehicle energy model developed on the basis of Deep Neural Network (DNN) technology. The study also explores the potential application of the model developed for the movement data of new vehicles in the province of Enna, Sicily, Italy. which is characterized by numerous attractors and the increasing number of hybrid and electric cars circulating. The energy model for electric vehicles shows high accuracy and versatility, requiring vehicle velocity and acceleration as input data to predict energy consumption. The research article also provides recommendations for the energy modeling of electric vehicles and outlines additional steps for model development. The implemented methodological approach and its results can be used by transport decision makers to plan new transport policies in Italian cities aimed at optimizing vehicle charging infrastructure. They can also help vehicle users accurately estimate energy consumption, generate maps, and identify locations with the highest energy consumption.

Dams significantly impact the environment, industry, residential areas, and agriculture. Efficient dam management can mitigate negative impacts and enhance benefits such as flood and drought reduction, energy efficiency, water access, and improved irrigation. This study tackles the critical issue of predicting dam occupancy levels precisely within the framework of Integrated Water Resource Management (IWRM). Our research proposes that combining the physical model of evapotranspiration using the Penman–Monteith equation with data-driven models based on historical reservoir data, weather data, and consumption data is essential for accurately predicting occupancy levels. We implemented various prediction models, including Random Forest, Extra Trees, Long Short-Term Memory, Orthogonal Matching Pursuit CV, and Lasso Lars CV. To strengthen our proposed model with robust evidence, we conducted a statistical test on the MAPE values. We achieved a remarkable accuracy in predicting the occupancy level one month ahead, with an error margin of just 1% using Extra Trees. This study represents a pioneering effort in providing guidance and proposing a hybrid model in this field.

This paper investigates the possible failure modes of the product development process in production companies that are active in the B2C markets with a focus on household products. Since these cases require short lead times and are difficult to differentiate, in many instances the end result will not be the desired one and could affect profitability for a season or for good. A model of these possibilities is created and an approach to plan contingencies for their solutioning is proposed in the article. The main guideline is to switch from failure probability determination to accepting failure as inevitable and using digital solutions to reinforce the development process in order to offset its impact. For this goal, an Industry 5.0 Abatement Factor (abbreviated IFAF) is introduced in the contingency planning approach, that factors in the evaluation the low cost of digital instruments and the proper mix of Technology, Humans and AI (abbreviated THAI). The new working procedure based on these concepts and their interlinkages is discussed based on specific examples.

Background: Electrical Impedance Tomography (EIT), combined with variable ventilation strate-gies and Artificial Intelligence (AI), is poised to revolutionize critical care by transitioning from reactive to predictive approaches. This integration aims to enhance patient outcomes through personalized interventions and real-time monitoring. Methods: This narrative review explores the principles and applications of EIT, variable ventilation, and AI in critical care. EIT’s impedance sensing creates dynamic images of internal physiology, aiding in the management of conditions like Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome (ARDS). Variable ventilation mimics natural breathing variability to improve lung function and minimize ventilator-induced lung injury. AI enhances EIT through advanced image reconstruction techniques, neural networks, and digital twin technology, offering more accurate diagnostics and tailored therapeutic interventions. Conclu-sions: The confluence of EIT, variable ventilation, and AI represents a significant advancement in critical care, enabling a predictive, personalized approach. EIT provides real-time insights into lung function, guiding precise ventilation adjustments and therapeutic interventions. AI inte-gration enhances EIT's diagnostic capabilities, facilitating the development of personalized treatment plans. This synergy fosters interdisciplinary collaborations and sets the stage for in-novative research, ultimately improving patient outcomes and advancing the future of critical care.

This research delves into librarians' perceptions of artificial intelligence (AI) support in learning experiences, lifelong learning, and digital literacy within the library context, undertaking a comparative analysis between Malaysia and Indonesia. Employing a survey methodology, a self-developed questionnaire was administered to 59 librarians in Malaysia and 85 in Indonesia. The questionnaire, utilizing a Likert scale, systematically explored subjective judgments on AI's impact across various dimensions. A noteworthy finding is the consistent and harmonized perception among librarians in both countries, underscoring a universal recognition of AI's perceived support for learning experiences, lifelong learning, and digital literacy. Of particular interest is the emphasis on sustainability in librarians' perspectives, as they recognize the enduring value of AI in fostering educational growth. Despite the limitations inherent in perceptual measures and a relatively modest sample size, the empirical and practical contributions of this study are significant. It offers a nuanced exploration of librarians' viewpoints, providing valuable insights for future research endeavors. Moreover, the study's findings have immediate practical implications for the integration of AI tools in library services, policy-making, and professional development, with a focus on ensuring sustainable implementation for long-term benefits.

Prochlorococcus, a cyanobacteria genus of the smallest and most abundant oceanic phototrophs, encompasses ecotype strains adapted to high-light (HL) and low-light (LL) niches. To elucidate the adaptive evolution of this genus, we analyzed 40 Prochlorococcus marinus ORFeomes, including two cornerstone strains, MED4 and NATL1A. Employing deep learning with robust statistical methods, we detected new protein family distributions in the strains and identified key genes differentiating HL and LL strains. HL strains harbor genes (ABC-2 transporters) related to stress resistance, such as DNA repair and RNA processing, while LL strains exhibit unique chlorophyll adaptations (ion transport proteins, HEAT repeats). We report variable, depth-dependent endogenous viral elements in the 40 strains. We constructed the ORFeomes of MED4 and NATL1A covering 99 % of the annotated protein-coding sequences of the two species, totaling 3976 cloned, sequence-verified ORFs. These comparative genomics analyses, paired with MED4 and NATL1A ORFeomes, will facilitate future genotype-to-phenotype mappings and systems biology exploration of Prochlorococcus ecology.

Background: Generative artificial intelligence (Gen-AI) has emerged as a transformative tool in research and education. However, there is a mixed perception about its use. This study assessed the use, perception, prospect, and challenges of Gen-AI use in higher education. Methods: This is a prospective, cross-sectional survey of university students in the United Kingdom (UK) distributed online between January and April 2024. Demography and perception of Gen-AI and other AI tools were assessed and statistically analysed to assess the difference in perception between various subgroups. Results: A total of 136 students responded to the survey of which 59% (80) were male. The majority were aware of Gen-AI and other AI use in academia (61%) with 52% having personal experience of the tools. Grammar correction and idea generation were the two most common tasks of use, with 37% being regular users. Fifty-six percent of respondents agreed that AI gives an academic edge with 40% holding a positive overall perception about the use in academia. Comparatively, there was a statistically significant difference in overall perception between different age ranges (I² = 27.39; p = 0.002) and levels of education (I² = 20.07; p < 0.001). Also, 83% of students believe AI use will increase in academia with over half agreeing it should be integrated into learning. Plagiarism (33%), privacy issues (14%), and lack of clarity by the university (13%) remain the top concerns regarding the use of Gen-AI and other AI tools in academia. Conclusions: Gen-AI and other AI tools are being used and their use will continue to grow in higher education. While current use is challenging due mainly to plagiarism fear and lack of clarity by the university, most users believe AI should be integrated into the university curriculum.

Nitrogen is one of the most important macronutrients for crops, and in conjunction with artificial intelligence algorithms, it is possible to estimate it with the aid of vegetation indices through remote sensing. Various indices were calculated and those with a correlation ≥ 0.7 were selected for subsequent use in Random Forest, Gradient Boosting, and Artificial Neural Networks to determine their relationship with nitrogen levels measured in the laboratory. Random Forest showed no relationship, yielding an R2 of zero, whereas Artificial Neural Networks yielded the best results with an R2 of 0.93. Thus, it is reliable to estimate nitrogen levels using this algorithm by feeding it with data from TCARI, MCARI, TCARI/OSAVI, and MCARI/OSAVI, assisted by technological tools.

The integration of artificial intelligence (AI) into academic settings in Sabah, Malaysia, is transforming education and research landscapes. While AI technologies promise to enhance teaching, learning, and scholarly activities, they also pose challenges such as ethical concerns and skill gaps among academic staff. This study addresses the multifaceted impacts of AI adoption on academicians in Sabah, focusing on two key research questions: the impact of AI-based intelligent tutoring systems on student engagement, learning outcomes, and educational equity, and the challenges and opportunities in building academicians' capacity to integrate AI technologies effectively. Through a multidisciplinary approach, incorporating insights from education, computer science, social sciences, and ethics, this research aims to evaluate the effectiveness of AI tools in educational settings and identify strategies for skill development and infrastructure support. The study recommends empirical assessments within Sabah's educational institutions, considering contextual factors and fostering collaborative partnerships with local communities. Professional development programs, collaboration with industry partners, and improved access to AI infrastructure are proposed strategies. Longitudinal studies and interdisciplinary research initiatives are suggested for future research, along with qualitative methods to capture diverse perspectives. Ultimately, by embracing a collaborative and multidisciplinary approach, Sabah's academic community can harness the transformative potential of AI to advance education, research, and scholarship while promoting ethical and inclusive practices.

The construction industry has a notable negative impact on the environment; thus, the promotion of the use of timber structures is an alternative to mitigate its effects. The research develops an artificial intelligence-based decision approach in the calculation of timber structures focused on the enhancement of the sustainability of roof structures. Based on the optimization carried out through genetic algorithms and the framework established in Eurocode 5, a general set of equations has been proposed for a laminated timber roof structure. The tool, which determines the most suitable roof structure for each strength class of laminated timber, allows for the determination of the dimensions of beams and purlins and their respective separations in order to minimize wood consumption. The ultimate goal is to offer multiple solutions regarding strength classes and structural designs in order to foster informed sustainable choices that promote efficient use of resources in construction.

Gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) is a hyperglycemia state that is typically diagnosed by an oral glucose tolerance test (OGTT), which is unpleasant, time-consuming, poorly reproducible, and tardy. The machine learning (ML) predictive models that have been proposed to improve GDM diagnosis are usually based on instrumental methods that take hours to get a result. Near-infrared (NIR) spectroscopy, a simple, fast and low-cost analytical technique has never been assessed for the prediction of GDM. This study aims to develop ML predictive models for GDM based on NIR spectroscopy, and to evaluate their potential as early detection or alternative screening tools according to their predictive power and time of analysis. Serum samples from the first (before GDM diagnosis) and the second (at the time of GDM diagnosis) trimester of pregnancy were analyzed by NIR spectroscopy. Four spectral ranges were considered, and 80 pretreatments were tested for each. NIR data-based models were built with single- and multi-block ML techniques. Every model was subjected to double cross-validation. The best first and second trimester models got areas under the receiver operating characteristic curve of 0.5768 ± 0.0635 and 0.8836 ± 0.0259, respectively. This is the first study reporting NIR spectroscopy-based methods for the prediction of GDM. The developed methods allow to predict GDM from 10 µL of serum in only 32 minutes. They are simple and fast, and have a great potential to be applied in clinical practice, especially as alternative screening tools to the OGTT at the time of GDM diagnosis.

X-ray Fluorescence Computed Tomography (XFCT) is an emerging non-invasive imaging technique providing molecular-level data, gaining attention for high-resolution imaging. However, increased sensitivity with benchtop X-ray sources raises radiation exposure. Artificial Intelligence (AI), particularly deep learning (DL), has revolutionized medical imaging by delivering high-quality images in the presence of noise. In XFCT, traditional methods rely on complex algorithms for noise reduction, but AI holds promise in addressing high-dose concerns. We present an optimized SCUNet model for noise reduction in low-concentration XRF images. Compared to higher-dose images, our method’s effectiveness is evaluated. While various denoising techniques exist for X-ray and CT, few address to XFCT. The DL model is trained and assessed using the augmented data, focusing on background noise reduction. Image quality is measured using PSNR and SSIM, comparing outcomes with 100% X-ray dose images. Results show the proposed algorithm achieves high-quality images from low-dose and low-contrast agents, with a maximum PSNR of 39.05 and SSIM of 0.86. The model outperforms BM3D, NLM, DnCNN, and SCUNet in both visual inspection and quantitative analysis, particularly in high-noise scenarios. This indicates the potential of AI, specifically the SCUNet model, in significantly improving XFCT imaging by mitigating the trade-off between sensitivity and radiation exposure.

This paper considers a specific fragment of Linear Temporal Logic for Finite traces, DECLAREd, which, to the best of our knowledge, we prove for the first time to be a {polytime} fragment of LTLf. We derive this in terms of the following ancillary results: we propose a set of novel LTLf equivalence rules that, when applied to \LTLf specifications, lead to an equivalent specification which can be computed faster by any existing verified temporal artificial intelligence task. We also introduce the concept of temporal non-simultaneity, prescribing that two activities shall never satisfy the same atom, and temporal short-circuit, that occurs when a specification interpreted in LTL would accept an infinitely long trace while, on LTLf, it can be rewritten so to postulate the absence of certain activity labels. We test these considerations over formal synthesis (Lydia), SAT-Solvers (AALTAF) and formal verification (KnoBAB) tools, where formal verification can be also run on top of a relational database and can be therefore expressed in terms of relational query answering. We show that all these benefit from the aforementioned assumptions, as running their tasks over a rewritten equivalent specification will improve their running times.

Artificial intelligence (AI) has witnessed an exponential increase in its use in various applications. Recently, the academic community started to research and inject new AI-based approaches to provide solutions to traditional software engineering problems. However, a comprehensive and holistic understanding of the current status is missing. To close the above gap, synthetic knowledge synthesis was used to induce a research landscape of the contemporary research literature on the use of AI in software engineering. The synthesis resulted in 15 research categories and five themes, namely natural language processing in software engineering, use of artificial intelligence in the management of software development life cycle, use of machine learning in fault/defect prediction and effort estimation, employment of deep learning in intelligent software engineering and code management, and mining software repositories to improve software quality. The most productive country was China (n=2042), followed by the United States (n=1193), India (n=934), Germany (n=445), and Canada (n=381). A high percentage (n=47.4%) of papers were funded, showing a strong interest in this research topic. The convergence of AI and software engineering can significantly reduce needed resources, improve quality, increase user experience, and improve the well-being of software developers.

The Distributed eLearning Center (DeLC) is a portal, providing extensive support in the day-to-day work when it comes to e-learning content – it helps students and teachers organize their learning materials, fill the gaps in knowledge (for students) and educational approaches (for teachers), organize and conduct exams, and overall, with providing proactive and personalized e-learning environment. The scope of DeLC as a project involves many extensions, covering the aspects of learning, teaching, exams, and collecting statistical information. Such extension is an agent-oriented environment, which enriches the functionalities with intelligent components, that are reactive and proactive, referred to as agents or assistants. This paper is focused on presenting the latest step in the evolution of FraudDetector software agent, which started with base functionality for fraud detection, and now it aims at usage of AI to accomplish its tasks, taking advantage not only from its knowledgebase, but from a much larger one, used by ChatGPT – through integration with it, which is the main contribution of this research, although the real results from production environment are still pending. In this process, agent’s architecture should stay open for collaboration with another external AI provider if necessary, trying to decouple the components, responsible for integration. As of now, the experiments show that involving ChatGPT in FraudDetector’s functionality enriches it and the agent’s precision could be improved this way.

The present minireview assessed the benefits of using artificial intelligence applications in healthcare at predicting the targets of bioactive small molecules in human. Method. The tool is a tuned algorithm, with novel data in web interface. Results. We used tables to order the information of Swiss Target Prediction that allow predictions on combination of chemotherapies and probable side effects. This tool is useful to understand the molecular mechanisms underlying a given phenotype or bioactivity, to rationalize possible favorable or unfavorable side effects and to predict off-targets of known molecules as well as to clear the way for drug repurposing. Predictions are done using a ligand-based approach to compare the similarity between a query molecule and the known ligands of a large collection of protein targets. Conclusion. This study allowed us to formulate recommendations for the use of some of the chemotherapeutic agent groups in cancer patients at a low cost. It is very important and beneficial for patients that take medicine for a longer period and on whose lives depend on such treatment.

Imaging flow cytometry (ImFC) represents a significant technological advancement in the field of cytometry, effectively merging the high-throughput capabilities of flow analysis with the image-based features of microscopy. In this comprehensive review article, we take a historical perspective and delve into the evolution of this methodology, presenting its past, exploring current state-of-the-art and forecasting potential future advancements. The inception of ImFC arose from the innovative combination of a flow cytometer's hydraulics with the technology of an advanced camera. This synergistic coupling facilitated the morphological analysis of cell populations at a high-throughput scale, effectively evolving the landscape of cytometry. However, the application of ImFC faced several challenges. Among the most prominent ones, is the development and implementation of software systems that can reliably and efficiently handle the robust data acquisition and analysis inherent in ImFC. The scale and complexity of the data generated by ImFC necessitates the creation of novel analytical tools that can effectively manage and interpret this data, thus allowing us to unlock the full potential of ImFC. Interestingly, artificial intelligence (AI) algorithms have begun to be implemented on ImFC, offering a promise for enhancing analytical capabilities. The adaptability and learning capacity of AI may prove to be essential in knowledge mining from high-dimensional data produced by ImFC, potentially enabling more accurate analyses. Looking forward, we project that ImFC may become an indispensable tool, not only in research laboratories but also in clinical settings. Given the unique combination of high-throughput cytometry and detailed imaging offered by ImFC, we foresee a critical role for this technology in the next generation of scientific research and diagnostics. As such, we encourage both current and future scientists to consider the integration of ImFC as an addition to their research toolkit and clinical diagnostic routine.

We can cite two critical areas where AI can play a key role in industry such as product quality control and predictive maintenance. This paper presents a survey of AI applications in the domain of Industry 4.0, with a specific focus on product quality control and predictive maintenance. Experiments were conducted using two datasets, incorporating different machine learning and deep learning models from the literature. Furthermore, this paper provides an overview of the AI solution development approach for product quality control and predictive maintenance. This approach includes several key steps, such as data collection, data analysis, model development, model explanation, and model deployment.

AI applications are transforming the technology and digital sector, seamlessly integrating into the daily interactions of individuals with the digital world. Key entry points to the internet, such as search engines, are now complemented by recommendation systems that curate content on social networks, streaming platforms, and online marketplaces. Additionally, virtual assistants have become ubiquitous across various platforms. While these groundbreaking changes are gradually extending to several industries, there remains significant untapped potential for the application of artificial intelligence in diverse domains. The renewable energy sector, in particular, continually reinvents itself through research and innovation to meet the escalating demand. Positioned at the forefront of technological evolution, this industry is well-placed to effectively adopt and tailor the innovations of artificial intelligence to its specific needs. Presently, both emerging and established tools leverage elements of AI to enhance processes and introduce functionalities that were previously unattainable. If the current trajectory persists, AI-enhanced tools have the potential to assume a role as crucial to the future of engineering as computer-aided design (CAD) software is in contemporary times.

Artificial intelligence (AI) tools, such as OpenAI's Chat Generative Pre-trained Transformer (ChatGPT), have great potential in various fields, such as healthcare, education, and industry. This review highlights the applications and challenges of the ChatGPT versions 3.5 and 4.0 in radiology. ChatGPT can process medical texts, analyze medical images, and generate reports and summaries for different audiences. ChatGPT can also answer patients' questions and translate complex medical information into a plain language. ChatGPT has shown impressive results in medical tests and quizzes, indicating its potential to enhance diagnostic accuracy and medical education. These models show promise for reducing diagnosis times and healthcare costs. However, ChatGPT also faces challenges and limitations, such as a lack of visual content, ethical and legal issues, data quality, and error detection. This review highlights the benefits and future directions of ChatGPT and artificial intelligence (AI) in radiology.

Global degradation of coral reefs is reflected in the destruction of shelters in various environments and threatens the stability of marine ecosystems. Artificial shelters offer an alternative, but their design is challenging due to limited knowledge regarding the shelter characteristics preferences of desired inhabitants. Investigating these preferences is resource-intensive, particularly regarding small shelters that mimic natural reef condition. Further, fish abundance may be too low for statistical analysis in small shelters. We propose a method to characterize the species-specific shelter preferences using low-volume data. During a study conducted from January 2021 to April 2022, round clay artificial shelters (RAS) were deployed on an abandoned oil pier to examine a coral reef fish community. We recorded 92 species from 30 families; grouped them to systematically (families) and functionally (dietary group) classes. Grouping enabled examining each group’s preference while crossing these group preferences revealed species- specific preferences, that matched field observations. This approach proved effective in profiling the shelter preferences of 17 species while having limited resources. These profiles may latter allow the establishment of ecological-oriented artificial reefs.

In today's world, wherein more than 80% of world trade is carried out by maritime routes, the safety and security of the seas where this trade takes place is of vast importance for nations and the in-ternational community. For this reason, ensuring the sustainable safety and security of the seas has become an integral part of the mission of all maritime-related entities. The utilization of big data extracted from the seas and maritime activities into meaningful information with artificial intelli-gence applications and developing applications that can be used in maritime surveillance will be of great importance for augmenting maritime safety and security. In this article, data sources which can be used by a maritime surveillance system based on big data and artificial intelligence tech-nologies and which can be established around sensitive sea areas and critical coastal facilities, are identified and a model proposal using this maritime big data is put forward.

A detailed description of its definition in an academic context - a multidisciplinary field of computer science and cognitive science that deals with the development of computational systems that exhibit intelligent behaviour, describing its areas of coverage and scope of application. It then introduces the benefits of AI in education technology, specifically addressing personalized learning, adaptive learning systems, automated scoring and feedback, virtual tutors and chatbots, data analytics, as well as content recommendations and natural language processing, accessibility and inclusion. Then it introduces the main concepts of AI personalized learning: AI personalized learning uses the power of artificial intelligence to meet the unique needs and preferences of individual learners, as well as its key principles and main characteristics. Adaptive learning systems harness the power of artificial intelligence and data analytics to tailor the learning experience to each student's needs and abilities, as well as its core principles and strengths. It also introduces the main operating principles of automated grading and feedback: it uses artificial intelligence and computer algorithms to evaluate and evaluate student assignments, tests and exams without the direct involvement of human graders, and its associated benefits. Secondly, the main concepts of virtual tutor are introduced: Virtual tutor is a computer-based system that uses artificial intelligence and machine learning algorithms to provide students with personalized and interactive educational support and its key characteristics and main advantages, and then the nature and benefits of chatbots and help in the field of education. The final conclusion summarizes the benefits and future challenges of integrating AI into educational technology.

Water resource pollution, particularly in river channels, presents a grave environmental challenge that necessitates a comprehensive and systematic approach encompassing assessment, forecasting, and effective management. This article provides a comprehensive exploration of the methodology and modeling tools employed to scrutinize the process of river channel pollution due to silting, rooted in the fundamental principles of hydrodynamics and pollutant transport dynamics. The study's methodology seamlessly integrates numerical simulations with state-of-the-art neural network techniques, with a specific focus on the Physics-informed neural networks (PINN) method. This innovative approach represents a groundbreaking fusion of artificial neural networks (ANN) and physical equations, offering a more efficient and precise means of modeling a wide array of complex processes and phenomena. The proposed mathematical model, grounded in the Euler equation, has been meticulously implemented using the Ansys Fluent software package, ensuring accuracy and reliability in the computations. In a pivotal phase of the research, a thorough comparative analysis was conducted between the results derived from the PINN method and those obtained through conventional numerical approaches using the Ansys Fluent software package. The outcomes of this analysis revealed the superior performance of the PINN method, characterized by the generation of smoother pressure fluctuation profiles and significantly reduced computation time, underscoring its potential as a transformative modeling tool. The calculated data originating from this study assumes paramount significance in the ongoing battle against river sedimentation. Beyond this immediate application, these findings also serve as a valuable resource for creating predictive materials pertaining to river channel silting, thereby empowering decision-makers and environmental stakeholders with essential information. The utilization of modeling techniques to address pollution concerns in river channels holds the potential to revolutionize risk management and safeguard the integrity of our vital water resources. However, it is imperative to underscore that the effectiveness of such models hinges on ongoing monitoring and frequent data updates, ensuring that they remain aligned with real-world conditions. This research not only contributes to the enhanced understanding and proactive management of river channel pollution due to silting but also underscores the pivotal role of advanced modeling methodologies in the preservation of our invaluable water resources for present and future generations.

Although learning analytics (LA) holds great potential to improve teaching and learning, LA research and practice are currently riddled with limitations that impact every stage of the LA life cycle. The present paper offers an overview of these challenges before proposing strategies to overcome them and exploring how the recent innovations brought forth by language models can improve LA research and practice. In particular, we encourage the empowerment of teachers during LA development, as this would strengthen the theoretical foundation of LA solutions and increase their interpretability and usability. Furthermore, we provide examples of how process data can be used to understand learning processes and generate more interpretable LA insights. Furthermore, we explore how LLMs could come into play in LA to generate interpretable insights, timely and actionable feedback, increase personalization, and support teachers’ tasks more broadly.

Big data technologies are disruptive technologies that affect every business, including those in the construction industry. The Thai government has also been affected, and attempted to use machine learning techniques with the analytics of big data technologies to predict which construction projects have a winning price over the project budget. However, this technology was never developed, and the government did not implement it because they had data obtained via a traditional data collection process. In this study, traditional data were processed to predict behavior in Thai government construction projects using a machine learning model. The data were collected from the government procurement system in 2019. There were seven input data, including project owner department, type of construction project, bidding method, project duration, project level, winning price over estimated price, and winning price over budget. A range of classification techniques, including an artificial neural network (ANN), a decision tree (DC), and K-nearest neighbor (KNN), were used in this study (ANN). According to the results, after hyperparameter tuning, ANN had the greatest prediction accuracy with 78.9 percent. This study confirms that data from the Thai government procurement system can be investigated using machine learning techniques from big data technologies.

The unique characteristics of frescoes on overseas Chinese buildings can attest to the integration and historical background of Chinese and Western cultures. Reasonable analysis and preservation of overseas Chinese frescoes can provide sustainable development for culture and history. This research adopts the image analysis technology based on artificial intelligence, and proposes a ResNet-34 model and method integrating transfer learning. This deep learning model can identify and classify the source of the frescoes of the emigrants, and can effectively deal with the problems such as the small number of fresco images on the emigrants' buildings, poor quality, difficulty in feature extraction, and similar pattern text and style. The experimental results show that the training process of the model proposed in this article is stable. On the constructed Jiangmen and Haikou fresco JHD datasets, the final accuracy is 98.41%, and the recall rate is 98.53%. The above evaluation indicators are superior to classic models such as AlexNet, GoogLeNet, and VGGNet. It can be seen that the model in this article has strong generalization ability and is not prone to overfitting. It can effectively identify and classify the cultural connotations and regions of frescoes.

Background: The purpose of this study is to carry out bioinformatic analysis of lncRNA data obtained as a result of genomic analysis of kidney tissue samples taken from rats with nephrotoxicity induced by methotrexate (MTX) and from rats without pathology and modeling with tree-based machine learning method. Another aim of the study is to identify potential biomarkers for the diagnosis of nephrotoxicity and to provide a better understanding of the nephrotoxicity formation process by providing the interpretability of the model with explainable artificial intelligence methods as a result of the modeling. Methods: To identify potential indicators of drug-induced nephrotoxicity, 20 female Wistar Albino rats were separated into two groups: nephrotoxicity and control. Kidney tissue samples were collected from the rats, and genomic, histological, and immunohistochemical analyses were performed. The data set obtained as a result of genomic analysis was modeled with Random Forest (RF), one of the tree-based methods. Modeling results were evaluated with sensitivity (Se), specificity (Sp), balanced accuracy (B-Acc), negative predictive value (Npv), accuracy (Acc), positive predictive value (Ppv), and F1-score performance metrics. The Local Interpretable Model-Agnostic Annotations (LIME) method was used to determine the lncRNAs that could be biomarkers for nephrotoxicity by providing the interpretability of the RF model. Results: The outcomes of the histological and immunohistochemical analyses done in the study supported the conclusion that MTX use caused kidney injury. According to the results of the bioinformatics analysis, 52 lncRNAs showed different expression in the groups. As a result of modeling with RF for lncRNAs selected with Boruta variable selection, the B-Acc, Acc, Sp, Se, Npv, Ppv, and F1-score were 88.9%, 90%, 90.9%, 88.9%, 90.9%, 88.9% and 88.9%. respectively. lncRNAs with id rnaXR_591534.3 rnaXR_005503408.1, rnaXR_005495645.1, rnaXR_001839007.2, rnaXR_005492056.1 and rna_XR_005492522.1 the lncRNAs with the highest variable importance values produced from RF modeling can be used as nephroxicity biomarker candidates. Also, according to the LIME results, the high level of lncRNAs with id rnaXR_591534.3 and rnaXR_005503408.1 especially increased the possibility of nephrotoxicity. Conclusions: With the possible biomarkers obtained as a result of the analyses made within the scope of this study, it can be ensured that the procedures for the diagnosis of drug-induced nephrotoxicity can be carried out easily, quickly and effectively.

This article should examine ideas of how a chatbot can support decision making processes by col-lecting general opinion about the certain topics. The ChatGPT is tested in this article in respect of natural gas security of supply of the Republic of Serbia in the context of the current political situation in the world. The author first describes its own stance on the topic and then the ChatGPT is asked for its opinion (which most probably collects and compiles phrases from English speaking sources to build a text in a smart way). The topic is ort only about security of gas supply of Serbia but also political and highly sensitive, so it is examined if the ChatGPT can be useful tool to reach a balance between less on more favorable options in the process of policy making.

Artificial intelligence (AI) technologies, particularly the subfield of machine learning (ML), has been expected to bring significant benefits to all sectors of business and public services. The manufacturing industry is considered one of the domains most likely to benefit from AI tech-nologies. During the recent years, there has been a growing research and development effort on machine learning–based solutions for manufacturing industries, as shown by the growing number of research publications. However, the business, environmental or societal benefits of applying ML in manufacturing industry have not been reviewed and evaluated. This paper re-views the reported benefits of ML in the manufacturing industry by analysis of scientific publi-cations. The focus of the review is on research papers that were published from 2017 to 2021. The review pays particular attention to the industry sector, manufacturing operations, machine learning methods used, maturity of results and the benefits pursued and achieved. The benefits are divided into business benefits, environmental sustainability, and societal sustainability. The analysis shows that the maturity of ML-based solutions is still low, despite the intensive research. Consequently, future research projects should place more emphasis on the maturity of the solu-tions, which would lead to their broader adoption into operational use, thus benefiting industry and society at large. This calls for closer collaboration between the research community and in-dustry.

This paper presents a combined optical imaging/artificial intelligence (OI/AI) technique for real-time analysis of tissue morphology at the tip of the biopsy needle, prior collecting a biopsy specimen. This is an important clinical problem as up to 40% of the collected biopsy cores provide low diagnostic value due to high adipose or necrotic content. Micron-scale resolution optical coherence tomography (OCT) images can be collected with a minimally invasive needle probe and automatically analyzed by a computer neural network (CNN)-based AI software. The results can be conveyed to the clinician in real-time and used to select the biopsy location more adequately. This technology was evaluated on a rabbit model of cancer. OCT images were collected with a hand-held custom-made OCT probe. Annotated OCT images were used as ground truth for AI algorithm training. The overall performance of the AI model was very close to that of the humans performing the same classification tasks. Specifically, tissue segmentation was excellent (~99% accuracy) and provided segmentation that closely mimicked ground truth provided by the human annotations, while over 83% correlation accuracy was obtained for tumor and non-tumor classification.

CNN-based off-the-shelf features have shown themselves as a good baseline for trademark retrieval. However, in recent years, the computer vision area was transitioning from CNNs to a new architecture – Vision Transformer. In this paper, we investigate the performance of off-the-shelf features extracted with vision transformers and explore the effects of pre, post-processing, and pre-training on big datasets. We propose a method of joint usage of global and local features, which leverages the best aspects of both approaches. Experimental results on METU Trademark Dataset show that off-the-shelf features extracted with ViT-based models outperform off-the-shelf features from CNN-based models. The proposed method achieves the mAP value of 31.23, surpassing previous state-of-the-art results. We assume that the proposed approach for the trademark similarity evaluation will allow one to improve the protection of such data with the help of artificial intelligence methods. Moreover, this approach will allow one to identify cases of unfair use of such data and form an evidence base for litigation.

The aim of this publication is to analyze the topic of high-frequency jet ventilation (HFJV), namely the catheter HFJV (C-HFJV) from a mathematical-physical as well as a clinical point of view. There are known issues with applying anesthesia and artificial lung ventilation (ALV) during surgical procedures in the upper airways, e.g. during bronchoscopy or tracheostomy. The principles, advantages, and disadvantages of HFJV are discussed in context with basic physical principles to clarify the proper use of this method. The basic technical principles of catheter construction, as well as its functional properties from a biophysical point of view, are introduced. Also, the placement of the catheter in the airways, the set-up of the HFJV ventilator, and the indications as well as the risks and contraindications of the use of C-HFJV are analyzed. This leads to the explanation of potentially optimal techniques for C-HFJV applications. In this article, we present the positive effects of C-HFJV even with complications such as bacterial or viral pneumonia, including COVID-19. In conclusion, we offer recommendations for clinical practice obtained from a literature review as well as from our own rich clinical experience.

Data-driven models based on artificial intelligence are efficiently used to solve complex problems. The quality of groundwater is of utmost importance, as it directly impacts human health and the environment. In major parts of the world groundwater is the main source of drinking water, it is essential to periodically monitor water quality. Conventional water quality monitoring techniques involve periodical collection of water samples and analysis in the laboratory. This process is expensive, time consuming and involves lot of manual labor. The aim of our study is to build an ant colony optimized neural network for predicting groundwater quality parameters. We have proposed artificial neural network comprising of six hidden layers. The approach was validated using our groundwater quality dataset of a hard rock region in the northern part of Karnataka, India. Groundwater samples were collected by us periodically from March 2014 to October 2020 from 50 wells in this region. These samples where analysed for measuring the pH, Electrical Conductivity, Na+, Ca+, Na+, K+, Mg2+, F-, Cl- and U+. The temporal dataset was split for training, testing and validation of our model. Metrics such as R2 (Coefficient of Determination), RMSE (Root Mean Squared Error), NSE (Nash–Sutcliffe efficiencies) and MAE (Mean Absolute Error) were used to evaluate the prediction error and model performance. These performance evaluation metrics indicated the efficiency of our model in predicting the temporal variation in groundwater quality parameters. The method proposed by us can be used for prediction and the temporal frequency of sample collection can be reduced to save time and cost. The results also confirm that the combination of artificial neural network with ACO is a promising tool to optimize weights while training the network, and hence will help in reasonable prediction of groundwater quality parameters.

Biofilm is a complex community of microorganisms that are attached to surfaces and encased in a self-produced extracellular matrix. Machine learning (ML) techniques have been applied to various aspects of biofilm research, such as predicting biofilm formation, identifying key genes, and designing new therapeutic strategies. In this study, we conducted a bibliometric analysis of machine learning in biofilm research to provide a comprehensive overview of the current state of the field. We searched the Web of Science database for articles published included "machine learning biofilm". A total of 126 articles were identified and analysed. Our results showed that the number of publications on machine learning in biofilm has been increasing rapidly over the past decade, indicating a growing interest in the application of ML techniques to biofilm research. The analysis also revealed that the most common research topics in this area were related to biofilm formation, prediction, and control. Furthermore, the most frequently used ML techniques in biofilm research were artificial neural networks and support vector machines. Overall, our study provides valuable insights into the current trends and future directions of machine learning in biofilm research. It also highlights the importance of interdisciplinary collaboration between biofilm researchers and ML experts to drive innovation in this field.

The current epoch, known as the Anthropocene, is characterized by significant human impact on the global ecological system, including altered species survival and distribution patterns due to global warming resulting from industrialization. Accurately quantifying and assessing the extent of human impact on the environment is of utmost importance. To this end, four primary methods have been developed to measure human impact: (1) ecological footprint, (2) Human appropriation of net primary production (HANPP), (3) Planetary boundary, and (4) Living Planet Index. In this paper, we aim to provide a comprehensive understanding of these methods, including their strengths and weaknesses, to evaluate their efficacy in accurately assessing the impact of human activities on the global ecosystem. Furthermore, we explore the potential of utilizing novel machine learning modelling for future predictions in this area. By analyzing and comparing these methods, we can gain insight into the ways in which human activities impact the environment and use this knowledge to inform future policies and practices to mitigate negative effects.

Cancer is a major concern for people, and accurately predicting the probability of cancer incidence and mortality is an important research topic. With the development of big data and artificial intelligence technology, a new machine learning model has emerged. Using 72,591 pieces of data, including age, case count, population size, race, gender, site of onset, and year of discovery, we built a machine learning model. Through calculations, we found that the decision tree, random forest, logistic regression, support vector machine, and neural network achieved testing accuracies of 62.11%, 61.68%, 54.53%, 55.72%, and 63.10%, respectively. With the help of this model, scientists and policymakers can accurately predict future cancer incidence and mortality rates through databases, allowing them to make relevant policies (such as timely allocating doctors and medical resources) to better serve the people.

Backgrounds: The field of Artificial Intelligence (AI) has seen a major shift in recent years due to the development of new Machine Learning (ML) models such as Generative Pre-trained Transformer (GPT) and AI which are progressively becoming part our everyday lives. GPT has achieved previously unheard-of levels of accuracy in most computerized language processing tasks and their chat-based variations. Aim: The aim of this study was to investigate the problem-solving abilities of ChatGPT using two sets of verbal insight problems, with a known performance level established by a sample of human participants. Material and Methods: A total of 30 problems labelled as “practice problems” and “transfer problems”, as listed by Ansburg and Dominowski (2000), were administered to ChatGPT. The answers provided by ChatGPT received a score of "0" for each problem answered incorrectly and a score of "1" for each correct response, as per the correct solution specified in Ansburg and Dominowski's (2000) study. The highest score that could be attributed to both the practice and transfer problems was 15 out of 15. In order to compare ChatGPT performance to the performance to that of human subjects, the solution rate for each problem (based on a sample of 20 subjects) was used, as indicated by Ansburg and Dominowski (2000). Results: The study highlighted that ChatGPT can be trained in out-of-the-box thinking and demonstrated potential in solving verbal insight problems. The global performance of ChatGPT equalled the most probable outcome for the human sample in both practice problems and transfer problems as well as upon their combination. Additionally, ChatGPT answer combinations were among the 5% of most probable outcomes for the human sample both when considering practice problems and pooled problem sets. These findings demonstrate that ChatGPT performance on both set of problems was in line with the mean rate of success of human subjects, indicating that it performed reasonably well. Conclusions: The use of transformer architecture and self-attention in ChatGPT may have helped to prioritize inputs while predicting, contributing to its potential in verbal insight problem-solving. ChatGPT has shown potential in solving insight problems, thus highlighting the importance of incorporating AI in psychological research. However, it is acknowledged that open challenges still exist. Indeed, further research is needed to fully understand the capabilities and limitations of AI in insight problem-solving.

The work proposes a new approach for evolutionary global optimization which, in simple terms, may be described as a fusion of quantum and simulated annealing. This becomes possible by using basic concepts from Homotopy Theory, conjugated to the already existing Fuzzy Adaptive Simulated Annealing paradigm and other components. In this fashion, it occurs a temporal and nonlinear superposition of the two types of annealing, provoking interesting effects in runtime, including the so-called quantum tunneling, when there is a sudden transition between attraction basins of different minima without "climbing" potential barriers. In addition, the proposal includes a generalization of the "deformation" of Hamiltonians used in quantum annealing by suggesting the use of general homotopies between the surface corresponding to the cost function under processing and another specific landscape, being this possible because of the ability of Fuzzy ASA of handling time-varying objective functions. The proposed paradigm shows that it is possible and beneficial to superpose the two types of annealing, displaying amazing numerical results and suggesting a kind of interlacing or synergic behavior - perhaps we could call it an "annealing entanglement". Finally, given the fast advances in commercial quantum annealing processors, it seems sensible to expect that an implementation of the proposed approach using such devices may occur very soon. In order to demonstrate the efficacy of the proposed algorithm, some significant and detailed examples are included in the text, so as to illustrate and clarify the presented ideas.

The evolving global SARS-CoV-2 pandemic emphasizes how unprepared we are for the emergence of the next lethal viral pathogen. A list of potential candidates was created by the World Health Organization which named Nipah virus infection as the highly lethal prototypic member of that list. Building on our earlier viral pandemic preparedness research into SARS-CoV-2 we have created computer simulations of Nipah virus infection complicated by encephalitis, the most common cause of Nipah-associated mortality. In the current experiments, we first created updated simulations of wild-type whole-brain organoids (aiWBO). Upon validation, the aiWBO were infected with the simulated Nipah virus genome. The Nipah encephalitis simulations (aiWBO-NiV) were then used to find optimal single, double, and triple protein combinations for candidates as potential targets for vaccine development. Our data suggest that the use of multi-viral proteins/epitopes chimera is the most promising approach to Nipah vaccine development and that employing artificial intelligence to guide the identification of promising vaccine candidates is an efficient and cost-effective strategy for future viral pandemic preparedness.

Imitation Learning is a discipline of Machine Learning primarily concerned with replicating observed behavior of agents known to perform well on a given task, collected in demonstration data sets. In this paper, we set out to introduce a pipeline for collecting demonstrations and training models that can produce motion plans for industrial robots. Object throwing is defined as the motivating use case. Multiple input data modalities are surveyed, and motion capture is selected as the most practicable. Two model architectures operating autoregressively are examined -- feedforward and recurrent neural networks. Trained models execute throws on a real robot successfully, and a battery of quantitative evaluation metrics is proposed, including extrapolated throw accuracy estimates. Recurrent neural networks outperform feedforward ones in most respects, with the best models having an assessed mean throw error on the order of 0.1...0.2 m at distances of 1.5...2.0 m. The data collection, pre-processing, and model training aspects of our proposed approach show promise, but further work is required in developing Cartesian motion planning tools before it is suitable for application in production.

(1) Background: Ventilator-associated pneumonia (VAP) causes high mortality among patients with respiratory disease and imposes major burdens on healthcare infrastructure. Models that use electronic health record data to predict the onset of VAP may spur earlier treatment and improve patient outcomes. We developed and studied the performance of interpretable machine learning (ML) models that predict the onset of VAP from electronic health records (EHRs); (2) Methods: We trained Logistic Regression (LR), full feature Explainable Boosting Machine (fEBM), and eXtreme Gradient Boosting (XGBoost) ML models on data from the MIMIC- III (v1.3) database. Model performance was measured by area under the receiver operating characteristic curves (AUCs). We trained a minimal-feature EBM model (mEBM) with features derived from white blood cell (WBC) counts, duration of ventilation, and Glasgow Coma Scale (GCS). Finally, model robustness was evaluated on randomly sparsified EHR datasets; (3) Results: The fEBM model outperformed the XGBoost and LR models at 24 hours post-intubation. The mEBM model maintained an AUC of 0.893. The fEBM model performance remained robust on sparsified datasets; (4) Conclusions: Our novel interpretable ML algorithm reliably predicts the onset of VAP in intubated patients. Integration of this EBM-based model into clinical practice may enable clinicians to better anticipate and prevent VAP.

The problem of water drinking supply is very important in the world, especially for developing countries, in particular Algeria. In this work we propose to study a distillation system based on solar energy process using an artificial intelligence approach in order to enhance the performance and the daily production. For this purpose, a conventional solar still and capillary film solar still was used. The operating parameters of the two distilleries are analyzed and the neural network approach was used to predict the performance through the amount of distillate, solar radiation and ambient temperature. The sensitivity between the operating parameters of the solar still for two case have been studied through the artificial neuron network model. The obtained results are promising, analyzed and discussed.

The choice of holiday destinations is highly depended on climate considerations. Nowadays, since the effects of climate crisis are being increasingly felt, the need of accurate weather and climate services for hotels is crucial. Such a service could be beneficial for both the future planning of tourists’ activities and destinations and for hotel managers as it could help in decision making about the planning and expansion of the touristic season, due to a prediction of higher temperatures for a longer time span, thus causing increased revenue for companies in the local touristic sector. The aim of this work is to calculate predictions on climatic variables using statistical techniques as well as Artificial Intelligence (AI) for a specific area of interest utilising data from in situ meteorological station, and produce valuable and reliable localised predictions with the most cost-effective method possible. This investigation will answer the question of the most suitable prediction method for time series data from a single meteorological station that is deployed in a specific location. As a result, an accurate representation of the microclimate in a specific are is achieved. To achieve this high accuracy in situ measurements and prediction techniques are used. As prediction techniques, Seasonal Auto Regressive Integrated Moving Average (SARIMA), AI techniques like the Long-Short-Term-Memory (LSTM) Neural Network and hybrid combinations of the two are used. Variables of interest are divided in the easier to predict temperature and humidity that are more periodic and less chaotic, and the wind speed as an example of a more stochastic variable with no known seasonality and patterns. Our results show that the examined Hybrid methodology performs the best at temperature and wind speed forecasts, closely followed by the SARIMA whereas LSTM perform better overall at the humidity forecast, even after the correction of the Hybrid to the SARIMA model.

Generative adversarial networks (GAN) opened new possibilities for image processing and analysis. Inpainting, dataset augmentation using artificial samples or increasing spatial resolution of aerial imagery are only a few notable examples of utilizing GANs in remote sensing. This is due to a unique construction and training process expressed as a duel between GAN components. The main objective of the research is to apply GAN to generate an artificial Normalized Difference Vegetation Index (NDVI) using panchromatic images. The NDVI ground-truth labels were prepared by combining RGB and NIR orthophoto. The dataset was then utilized as input for a conditional generative adversarial network (cGAN) to perform an image-to-image translation. The main goal of the neural network was to generate an artificial NDVI image for each processed 256px × 256px patch using only information available in the panchromatic input. The network achieved 0.7569 ± 0.1083 Structural Similarity Index Measure (SSIM), 26.6459 ± 3.6577 Peak Signal-to-Noise Ratio (PNSR) and 0.0504 ± 0.0193 Root-Mean-Square Error (RSME) on the test set. The perceptual evaluation was performed to verify the usability of the method when working with a real-life scenario. The research confirms that the structure and texture of the panchromatic aerial remote sensing image contains sufficient information for NDVI estimation for various objects of urban space. Even though these results can be used to highlight areas rich in vegetation and distinguish them from urban background, there is still room for improvement in terms of accuracy of estimated values. The purpose of the research is to explore the possibility of utilizing GAN to enhance panchromatic images (PAN) with information related to vegetation. This opens interesting possibilities in terms of historical remote sensing imagery processing and analysis. The panchromatic orthoimagery dataset was derived from RGB orthoimagery.

The aim of this tutorial is to help students grasp the theory and applicability of support vector machines (SVMs). The contribution is an intuitive style tutorial that helped students gain insights into SVM from a unique perspective. An internet search will reveal many videos and articles on SVM, but many of them give simplified explanations that leave gaps in the derivations that beginning students cannot fill. Most free tutorials lack guidance on practical applications and considerations. The software wrappers in popular programming libraries such as Python and R hide many of the operational complexities. Free software tools often use default parameters that ignore domain knowledge or leave knowledge gaps about the important effects of SVM hyperparameters, resulting in misuse and subpar outcomes. The author uses this tutorial as a course reference for students studying artificial intelligence and machine learning. The tutorial derives the classic SVM classifier from first principles and then derives the practical form that a computer uses to train a classification model. An intuitive explanation about confusion matrices, F1 score, and the AUC metric extend insights into the inherent tradeoff between sensitivity and specificity. A discussion about cross-validation provides a basic understanding of hyperparameter tuning to maximize generalization by balancing underfitting and overfitting. Even seasoned self-learners with advanced statistical backgrounds have gained insights from this tutorial style of intuitive explanations, with all related considerations for tuning and performance evaluations in one place.

COVID-19 poses a significant burden to healthcare systems. Healthcare organisations with a better health innovation infrastructure have faced a reduced burden and achieved success in curbing COVID-19. In Saudi Arabia, digital technologies have played a vital role in fighting SARS-CoV-2 transmission. In this paper, we aimed to summarise the experience of optimising digital health technologies in Saudi Arabia as well as discuss capabilities and opportunities during and beyond the COVID-19 pandemic. A literature review was conducted up to September 2021 to retrieve peer-reviewed articles that critique the use of digital health technology platforms (DHTPs) in Saudi Arabia during the COVID-19 outbreak. A small but significant body of literature examined the digital response to the COVID-19 pandemic in Saudi Arabia. Health officials succeeded in optimising and maintaining a strategy to mitigate the spread of the virus via different digital technologies, such as mobile health applications, artificial intelligence, and machine learning. The quick digital response in Saudi Arabia was facilitated by governmental support and considering users and technology determinants. Future research must concentrate on establishing and updating the guidelines for using DHTPs.

Personality is the most critical feature that tells us about an individual. It is the collection of the individual’s thoughts, opinions, emotions and more. Personality detection is an emerging field in research and Deep Learning models have only recently started being developed. There is a need for a larger dataset that is unbiased as the current dataset that is used is in the form of questionnaires that the individuals themselves answer, hence increasing the chance of unconscious bias. We have used the famous stream-of-consciousness essays collated by James Pennbaker and Laura King. We have used the Big Five Model often known as the five-factor model or OCEAN model. Document-level feature extraction has been performed using Google’s word2vec embeddings and Mairesse features. The processed data has been fed into a deep convolutional network and a binary classifier has been used to classify the presence or absence of the personality trait. Hold- out method has been used to evaluate the model, and the F1 score has been used as the performance metric.

Capability assessment plays a crucial role in the demonstration and construction of equipment. To improve the accuracy and stability of capability assessment, we study the neural network learning algorithms in the field of capability assessment and index sensitivity. Aiming at the problem of over-fitting and parameter optimization in neural network learning, the paper proposes an improved machine learning algorithm—the Ensemble Learning Based on Policy Optimization Neural Networks (ELPONN) algorithm with the policy optimization and ensemble learning. This algorithm presents optimized neural network learning algorithm through different strategies evolution, and builds an ensemble learning model of multi-intelligent algorithms to assessment the capability and analyze the sensitivity of the indexes. Through the assessment of capabilities, the algorithm effectively avoids parameter optimization from entering the minimum point in performance to improve the accuracy of equipment capability assessment, which is significantly better than previous neural network assessment methods. The experimental results show that the mean relative error is 4.10%, which is better than BP, GABP, and early stopping. The ELPONN algorithm has better accuracy and stability performance, and meets the requirements of capability assessment.

With the depletion of shallow surface resources, the future mining work will develop towards the deep surface, and the objective conditions such as the mining environment will be more complex and dangerous than now, and the requirements for personnel and equipment will be higher and higher. The efficient exploitation of deep space cannot be separated from such mobile and flexible production and transportation equipment as scraper. In the new era, intelligence is the development trend of the LHD, and path tracking control technology is the key to the intelligent LHD, and it is also an urgent problem to be solved for its unmanned driving. This paper describes the realization of the automatic operation function of articulated LHD from two aspects of mathematical model and trajectory tracking control method, and focuses on the research of the path tracking control scheme in the field of unmanned driving, that is, LQR controller. On this basis, the parameters of the LQR controller are optimized by combining different intelligent cluster algorithms to find the optimal solution of the LQR controller.

This work aims to contribute to better understanding the use of public street spaces. (1) Background: In this sense, with a multidisciplinary approach, the objective of this work is to propose an experimental and reproducible method on a large scale. (2) Study area: The applied methodology uses artificial intelligence to analyze Google Street View (GSV) images at street level. (3) Method: The purpose is to validate a methodology that allows to characterize and quantify the use (pedestrians and cars) of some squares in Rome belonging to different historical periods. (4) Results: Through the use of machine vision techniques, typical of artificial intelligence and which use convolutional neural networks, a historical reading of some selected squares is proposed with the aim of interpreting the dynamics of use and identifying some critical issues in progress. (5) Conclusions: This work validated the usefulness of a method applied to the use of artificial intelligence for the analysis of GSV images at street level.

Lignocellulosic fibers are widely applied as composite reinforcement due to their properties. The thermal degradation behavior determines the maximum temperature in which the fiber can be applied without significant mass loss. It is possible to determine these temperatures using Thermogravimetric Analysis (TG). In particular, when curves are obtained at different heating rates, kinetic parameters can be determined and more detailed characteristics of the material are obtained. However, every curve obtained at a distinct heating rate demands material, cost, and time. Methods to predict thermogravimetric curves can be very useful in the materials science field and in this sense mathematical approaches are powerful tools if well employed. For this reason, in the present study, curaua TG curves were obtained at three different heating rates (5, 10, 20, and 40 °C.min-1) and Vyazovkin kinetic parameters were obtained. After, the experimental curves were fitted using an artificial neural network (ANN) approach followed by a Surface Response Methodology (SRM). Curves at any heating rate between the minimum and maximum experimental heating rates were obtained with high reliability. Finally, Vyazovkin kinetic parameters were tested again with the new curves showing similar kinetic parameters from the experimental ones. In conclusion, due to the capability to learn from the own data, ANN combined with SRM seems to be an excellent alternative to predict TG curves that do not test experimentally, opening the range of applications.

Air pollution contributes to a critical environmental problem in various towns and cities. With the emergence of the smart cities concept, appropriate methods to curb associated with exposure to pollutants must have been a portion of appropriate urban development policy. This study presents a technologically driven air quality solution in smart cities to advertise energy-efficient and cleaner sequestration in these areas. It aims to address the issue of how to integrate the data-based strategies and artificial intelligence into efficient public sector pollution management in smart cities as a core part of the smart city definition. Exploratory research has been used in 152 smart cities, and environmental experts contributed to this study. It further addresses the technical criteria for implementing such a framework that the public administration uses to prepare the renovation of public buildings, minimize energy use and costs, and link these smart police stations to monitor air pollution as a part of integrated cities. Such a digital transition in resource management will increase public governance's energy performance, a higher standard of operation, and a healthier environment.

The diagnosis of papillary thyroid carcinoma has always been a concerned and challenging issue and it is very important and meaningful to have a definite diagnosis before the operation. In this study, we tried to use an artificial intelligence algorithm instead of medical statistics to analyze the genetic fingerprint from gene chip results to identify papillary thyroid carcinoma. We trained 20 artificial neural network models with differential genes and other important genes related to the cell metabolic cycle as the list of input features, and apply them to the diagnosis of papillary thyroid cancer in the independent validation data set. The results showed that when we used the DEGs and all genes lists as input features the models got the best diagnostic performance with AUC=98.97% and 99.37% and the accuracy were both 96%. This study revealed that the proposed artificial neural network models constructed with genetic fingerprints could achieve a prediction of papillary thyroid carcinoma. Such models can support clinicians to make more accurate clinical diagnoses. At the same time, it provides a novel idea for the application of artificial intelligence in clinical medicine.

Conventionally, partial differential equations (PDE) problems are solved numerically through discretization process by using finite difference approximations. The algebraic systems generated by this process are then finalized by using an iterative method. Recently, scientists invented a short cut approach, without discretization process, to solve the PDE problems, namely by using machine learning (ML). This is potential to make scientific machine learning as a new sub-field of research. Thus, given the interest in developing ML for solving PDEs, it makes an abundance of an easy-to-use methods that allows researchers to quickly set up and solve problems. In this review paper, we discussed at least three methods for solving high dimensional of PDEs, namely PyDEns, NeuroDiffEq, and Nangs, which are all based on artificial neural networks (ANNs). ANN is one of the methods under ML which proven to be a universal estimator function. Comparison of numerical results presented in solving the classical PDEs such as heat, wave, and Poisson equations, to look at the accuracy and efficiency of the methods. The results showed that the NeuroDiffEq and Nangs algorithms performed better to solve higher dimensional of PDEs than the PyDEns.

Coxiella burnetii (Derrick) Philip, the causative agent of Q fever, is mainly transmitted by aerosols, but ticks can also be a source of infection. Transstadial and transovarical transmission of C. burnetii by Hyalomma lusitanicum (Koch) has been suggested. There is a close relationship between this tick species, wild animals and C. burnetii but the transmission in a natural environment has not been demonstrated. In this study, we collected 80 engorged nymphs of H. lusitanicum from red deer and wild rabbits. They molt to adults under laboratory conditions and we feed them artificially through silicone membranes after a preconditioning period. C. burnetii DNA was tested in ticks, blood and feces samples using real-time PCR. The pathogen was found in 36.25% of fed adults demonstrating that transstadial transmission from nymph to adult occurs in nature. The presence of DNA in the 60% of blood samples confirms that adults transmit the bacteria during feeding. Further studied are needed about co-feeding and other possible transmission routes to define the role of this tick species in the cycle of C. burnetii.
