The history of Artificial Intelligence (AI) development dates to the 40s. The researchers showed strong expectations until the 70s, when they began to encounter serious difficulties and investments were greatly, reduced. With the introduction of the Industry 4.0, one of the techniques adopted for AI implementation is Machine Learning (ML) that focuses on the machines ability to receive data series and learn on their own. Given the considerable importance of the subject, researchers have completed many studies on ML to ensure that machines are able to replace or relieve human tasks. This research aims to analyze, systematically, the literature on several aspects, including publication year, authors, scientific sector, country, institution, keywords. Analyzing existing literature on AI is a necessary stage to recommend policy on the matter. The analysis has been done using Web of Science and SCOPUS database. Furthermore, UCINET and NVivo 12 software have been used to complete them. Literature review on ML and AI empirical studies published in the last century was carried out to highlight the evolution of the topic before and after Industry 4.0 introduction, from 1999 to now. Eighty-two articles were reviewed and classified. A first interesting result is the greater number of works published by USA and the increasing interest after the birth of Industry 4.0.

This paper presents an innovative approach to dimensionality reduction and feature extraction in high-dimensional datasets, with a specific application focus on wood surface defect detection. The proposed framework integrates sparse modeling techniques, particularly Lasso and proximal gradient methods, into a comprehensive pipeline for efficient and interpretable feature selection. Leveraging pre-trained models such as VGG19 and incorporating anomaly detection methods like Isolation Forest and Local Outlier Factor, our methodology addresses the challenge of extracting meaningful features from complex datasets. Evaluation metrics such as accuracy and F1 score, alongside visualizations, are employed to assess the performance of the sparse modeling techniques. Through this work, we aim to advance the understanding and application of sparse modeling in machine learning, particularly in the context of wood surface defect detection.

Digital Elevation Model (DEM) is a representation of elevation data that represent terrain with or without overlaying objects of the Earth. It is the ideal and most widely used method for determining topography. DEMs are generated from various techniques such as traditional Surveying, Photogrammetry, InSAR, LiDAR, Clinometry and radargrammetry. It has been observed that mostly LiDAR-generated DEMs provide the best accuracy. The unavailability of LiDAR data in most of the region restricts global researchers from high-resolution and accurate DEMs. The recent launch of ICESat-2 with a 13m beam footprint and 0.7m pulse interval, promises elevations at high orbital precision. Its accuracy is of the order of few centimeters in complex topography, because of this ICESat-2 proves to be a good source to generate high-accuracy DEMs. ICESat-2 provides discrete photon data with elevations of points on the Earth’s surface. Traditional interpolation techniques tend to over-smooth the estimated space and still are unable to justify the complicated continuity in the topographical data. Machine learning algorithms are widely being used to extract patterns and spatial extent in geographic data. To estimate a DEM from ICESat-2 LiDAR point data, machine learning regression algorithms are implemented in this study. The present study has been performed for a plain region of Ghaziabad, Uttar Pradesh, India. Studies have shown that Cartosat-1 DEM V3 R1 product provides an accuracy of the order of 2m in predominantly plain regions, hence taken for this region. Current work focuses on comparing various regression-based machine-learning techniques to interpolate DEM from ICESat-2 data The RMSE of the interpolated DEM resulted from the Gradient Boosting Regressor, Random Forest Regressor, Decision Tree Regressor, and Multi-Layer Perceptron Regressor was 7.13m, 7.01m, 7.15m, and 3.76m, respectively when evaluated against the TANDEM-X DEM of the same region. The MLP Regressor is found to perform the best among the four algorithms tested.

In the realm of agribusiness, transformative shifts are underway, propelled by the growing demands and expanding scales of grain production. This evolution calls for a critical reevaluation of the existing paradigms in coffee production and marketing paradigms, with a specific focus on integrating Artificial Intelligence (AI). This work aims to review, synthesize, and summarize the available data regarding how Machine Learning (ML) has been used to detect and classify characteristics in coffee beans and leaves. For this purpose, a comprehensive literature review of the most significant research contributions describing the application of AI for advanced classification techniques in coffee agriculture has been carried out. Our analysis suggests that implementing AI technologies allows the classification of coffee, encompassing various attributes such as maturity, roast intensity, disease identification, flavor profiles, and overall quality. More largely, this technological advancement holds the potential to revolutionize coffee farming by providing producers and agricultural specialists with sophisticated tools to enhance production efficiency, minimize costs, and improve the accuracy and confidence of their decision-making processes.

Droughts have a substantial effect on water resources, agriculture, and ecosystems on a worldwide scale. In the Mekong Delta of Vietnam, droughts exacerbated by climate change are significantly endangering the region's agricultural sustainability and output. Conventional forecasting techniques frequently do not capture the intricate dynamics of meteorological phenomena associated to drought effectively, prompting the exploration of more advanced methodologies. This work utilises artificial intelligence, par-ticularly machine learning methods like Gradient Boosting and Extreme Gradient Boosting (XGBoost), to enhance drought pre-diction in the Mekong Delta. The study utilises data from 11 meteorological stations spanning from 1990 to 2022 to create and evaluate Machine Learning models based on several climatic factors. We utilise Gradient Boosting and XGBoost algorithms to estimate the Standardised Precipitation-Evapotranspiration Index (SPEI) and evaluate their effectiveness in comparison to con-ventional forecasting techniques. The results show that Machine Learning, particularly XGBoost, surpasses traditional approaches in predicting SPEI accuracy at various time scales. XGBoost demonstrates skill in understanding the complex relationships between climatic factors, with R² values falling between 0.90 and 0.94 for 1-month forecasts. The progress highlights the potential of Machine Learning in improving drought management and adaptation tactics, proposing the incorporation of Machine Learning forecasting models into decision-making processes to enhance drought resistance in susceptible areas.

Partial Differential Equations (PDEs) constitute a fundamental framework for modeling various physical phenomena across diverse fields such as physics, engineering, and finance. Solving PDEs accurately and efficiently remains a significant challenge, particularly when dealing with complex systems or high-dimensional data. In this paper, we present a novel approach based on deep learning techniques to investigate the effective factors in solving PDEs. Our methodology leverages the expressive power of deep neural networks to learn and represent the underlying relationships between input parameters and the solutions of PDEs. By incorporating domain knowledge into the network architecture and training process, our approach aims to provide insights into the key factors influencing the solution of PDEs. We demonstrate the effectiveness of our method through numerical experiments on various PDEs, showcasing its capability to identify important features and improve predictive accuracy. Our findings suggest that deep learning techniques offer a promising avenue for understanding and analyzing the complex dynamics inherent in PDEs, paving the way for enhanced computational methods in scientific and engineering applications.

In recent years, Machine Learning (ML) has become a buzzword in the petroleum industry with numerous applications which guide engineers in better decision-making. The most powerful tool that most production development decisions rely on is reservoir simulation with applications in numerous modeling procedures, such as individual simulation runs, history matching and production forecast and optimization. However, all these applications lead to considerable computational time and computer resources associated costs, rendering reservoir simulators as not fast and robust enough, thus introducing the need for more time-efficient and smart tools, like ML models which are able to adapt and provide fast and competent results that mimic the simulator’s performance within an acceptable error margin. The first part of the present study (Part I) offers a detailed review of ML techniques in the petroleum industry, specifically in subsurface reservoir simulation, for the cases of individual simulation runs and history matching, whereas the ML-based Production Forecast Optimization applications will be presented in Part II. This review can assist engineers as a complete source for applied ML techniques since, with the generation of large-scale data in everyday activities, ML is becoming a necessity for future and more efficient applications.

Alzheimer's disease is a neurological illness that worsens gradually. It is known as the most frequent cause of dementia. Moreover, Alzheimer's disease is a general term for memory loss and other cognitive impairments severe enough to disrupt daily life. The disease often grows in middle-aged and elderly people with the gradual loss of cognitive ability. Since the diagnosis of the illness is time consuming, a novel machine learning approach is proposed in this research to diagnose Alzheimer's levels based on Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI). More specifically, to provide distinct information for classification we have implemented the proposed method on a native MRI scans dataset containing three MRI channels; namely T1, T2, and, T2 tirm, which are shown in red, blue and green, respectively. The five middle layers of these three types of MRI scans are combined to form five RGB layers. In addition, we use a Convolutional Neural Network to classify each composed layer, and the final disease type is predicted using majority voting. finally, the F1-Score has been used to assess method performance, indicated that 92% of predictions of the proposed model were accurate.

In the present study, piecewise integrated composite (PIC) bumper beam for passenger cars was proposed and design optimisation process for composite bumper beam against IIHS test was carried out with the help of machine learning. Several elements in IIHS bumper FE model have been assigned to be references, in order to collect training data which, allow the machine learning model to study the method of predicting loading types of each finite element. 2-D and 3-D implementations were provided by machine learning models, which determined stacking sequences of each finite element in PIC bumper beam. It was found that the PIC bumper beam, which was designed by machine learning model has direct impact on reducing the possibility of failure as well as increasing bending strength effectively than conventional composite bumper beam. Moreover, 3-D implementation produced better results compared with 2-D implementation since it was preferable to choose loading type information which was achieved from surroundings when the target elements were located either at corner or junction of planes instead of using information came from the same plane of target.

Beer fermentation is typically monitored by periodic sampling and off-line analysis. In-line sensors would remove the need for time-consuming manual operation and provide real-time evaluation of the fermenting media. This work uses a low-cost ultrasonic sensor combined with machine learning to predict the alcohol concentration during beer fermentation. The highest accuracy model (R2=0.952, MAE=0.265, MSE=0.136) used a transmission-based ultrasonic sensing technique along with the measured temperature. However, the second most accurate model (R2=0.948, MAE=0.283, MSE=0.146) used a reflection-based technique without the temperature. Both the reflection-based technique and the omission of the temperature data are novel to this research and demonstrate the potential for a non-invasive sensor to monitor beer fermentation.

In this research, an attempt was made to reduce the dimension of wavelet-ANFIS/ANN (artificial neural network/adaptive neuro-fuzzy inference system) models toward reliable forecasts as well as to decrease computational cost. In this regard, the principal component analysis was performed on the input time series decomposed by a discrete wavelet transform to feed the ANN/ANFIS models. The models were applied for dissolved oxygen (DO) forecasting in rivers which is an important variable affecting aquatic life and water quality. The current values of DO, water surface temperature, salinity, and turbidity have been considered as the input variable to forecast DO in a three-time step further. The results of the study revealed that PCA can be employed as a powerful for dimension reduction of input variables and also to detect inter-correlation of input variables. Results of the PCA-Wavelet-ANN models are compared with those obtained from Wavelet-ANN models while the earlier one has the advantage of less computational time than the later models. Dealing with ANFIS models, PCA is more beneficial to avoid Wavelet-ANFIS models creating too many rules which deteriorate the efficiency of the ANFIS models. Moreover, manipulating the Wavelet-ANFIS models utilizing PCA leads to a significant decreasing in computational time. Finally, it was found that the PCA-Wavelet-ANN/ANFIS models can provide reliable forecasts of dissolved oxygen as an important water quality indicators in rivers.

Deep learning has achieved lots of successes in many fields, but when trainable sample are extremely limited, deep learning often under or overfitting to few samples. Meta-learning was proposed to solve difficulties in few-shot learning and fast adaptive areas. Meta-learner learns to remember some common knowledge by training on large scale tasks sampled from a certain data distribution to equip generalization when facing unseen new tasks. Due to the limitation of samples, most approaches only use shallow neural network to avoid overfitting and reduce the difficulty of training process, that causes the waste of many extra information when adapting to unseen tasks. Euclidean space-based gradient descent also make meta-learner's update inaccurate. These issues cause many meta-learning model hard to extract feature from samples and update network parameters. In this paper, we propose a novel method by using multi-stage joint training approach to post the bottleneck during adapting process. To accelerate adapt procedure, we also constraint network to Stiefel manifold, thus meta-learner could perform more stable gradient descent in limited steps. Experiment on mini-ImageNet shows that our method reaches better accuracy under 5-way 1-shot and 5-way 5-shot conditions.

Use of Machine Learning (ML) methodologies in optical communications has paved a new pathway. In this paper, firstly, we discuss the use of ML methodologies for reducing optical fiber nonlinearities, nonlinearity compensation, fault detection and optical performance monitoring. Then we present our recent work where we compare RL-SARSA and SVM based method with conventional method. The results show that RL-SARSA and SVM methods are successful candidates in mitigating the nonlinearities in proposed system as compared to conventional optical communication system.

Risk-averse areas such as the medical, aerospace and energy sectors have been somewhat slow towards accepting and applying Additive Manufacturing (AM) in many of their value chains. This is partly because there are still signicant uncertainties concerning the quality of AM builds. This paper introduces a machine learning algorithm for the automatic detection of faults in AM products. The approach is semi-supervised in that, during training, it is able to use data from both builds where the resulting components were certied and builds where the quality of the resulting components is unknown. This makes the approach cost ecient, particularly in scenarios where part certication is costly and time consuming. The study specically analyses Selective Laser Melting (SLM) builds. Key features are extracted from large sets of photodiode data, obtained during the building of 49 tensile test bars. Ultimate tensile strength (UTS) tests were then used to categorise each bar as `faulty' or `acceptable'. A fully supervised approach identied faulty specimens with a 77% success rate while the semi-supervised approach was able to consistently achieve similar results, despite being trained on a fraction of the available certication data. The results show that semi-supervised learning is a promising approach for the automatic certication of AM builds that can be implemented at a fraction of the cost currently required.

This article presents a comparative analysis of three Machine Learning models, namely Logistic Regression, Decision Tree Classifier, and Random Forest Classifier, for prostate cancer detection. The models were trained and evaluated using clinical data, and their performance was assessed using various evaluation metrics. The results show that Logistic Regression achieved the highest accuracy (90%) among the three models, followed by Random Forest Classifier (76.67%) and Decision Tree Classifier (73.33%). Similarly, Logistic Regression demonstrated superior precision (95.65%) and F1 Score (93.62%), indicating its effectiveness in identifying true positive cases. However, the Decision Tree Classifier exhibited higher recall for the negative class (83.33%) compared to the positive class (70.83%), while Random Forest Classifier showed balanced recall for both classes (66.67% for negative and 79.17% for positive). These findings suggest that Logistic Regression outperforms the other models in terms of accuracy and precision, while the Decision Tree Classifier and Random Forest Classifier provide better recall for certain classes. The results highlight the potential of Machine Learning in prostate cancer detection and provide insights for further research and improvement of the models.

Seagrass beds and salt marshes play a crucial role in preserving and restoring estuarine ecosystems, providing essential services such as carbon sequestration, water filtration, and habitat for diverse marine life. Mapping these areas, particularly in remote locations, is challenging but essential for effective conservation efforts. This study explores the use of drones equipped with multispectral cameras to map seagrass meadows and salt marshes in estuarine environments. The methodology involved composing images into a multilayer multidimensional dataset, performing exploratory data analysis and principal component analysis, and utilizing Random Forest supervised classification to generate detailed maps. Applied to a case study of the Mira River in southern Portugal, this approach achieved mapping accuracies as high as 94% with kappa values of 0.91. These results demonstrate the efficacy of drone-based multispectral imaging and advanced analytical techniques in accurately mapping and monitoring critical estuarine habitats, offering a valuable tool for conservation and restoration initiatives.

The development of Artificial Intelligence-based tools is having a big impact on industry. In this context, the maintenance operations of important assets and industrial resources are deeply changing both from a theoretical and a practical perspective, even in the field of ship propulsion systems. Namely, conventional preventive maintenance schedules audits and checks at fixed times by using statistics on component failures, but it can be improved by a predictive maintenance based on the real component health status, which is inspected by proper sensors. In this way, time and costs are saved. More in details, data-driven models, through Machine Learning (ML) algorithms, generate the expected values of monitored variables for comparison with real measurements coming from the asset, hence for a diagnosis based on the difference between expectations and observations. Then, a ML-based fault detection starts with the choice of the ML algorithm. This process is often not the consequence of an in-depth deep analysis of the different algorithms available in the literature. For that reason, the authors propose a simple procedure to support a first implementation stage of the so-called Condition Based Maintenance (CBM): a quick benchmarking of the most suitable ML algorithms useful for fault detection. The algorithms are compared by taking into account not only the algorithm output error, shown by the Mean Squared Error between predictions and data, but also the response time, which is a crucial variable for maintenance purpose.

In South Korea, the residential real estate market is influenced not just by traditional supply and demand dynamics, but also by external factors such as housing policies and macroeconomic conditions. Given the significant role of housing assets in individual wealth, market fluctuations can have profound implications. While prior research has utilized variables like GDP growth rate, patent issuance, and birth rates, and employed models like LSTM and ARIMA for housing price predictions, many overlook key localized factors. Notably, the impact of subway stations and living SOC facilities on housing prices, especially in metropolitan areas, remains underexplored. This study addresses these gaps by analyzing usage trends across subway stations, assessing the influence of living SOC facilities on housing values, and identifying the optimal machine learning model for price predictions near transport hubs. Through a comparative analysis of machine learning techniques, we aim to provide insights for more informed housing price determinations, promoting a more stable real estate market.

Several epidemiological models are being used around the world to project the number of infected individuals and the mortality rates of the COVID-19 outbreak. Advancing accurate prediction models is of utmost importance to take proper actions. Due to a high level of uncertainty or even lack of essential data, the standard epidemiological models have been challenged regarding the delivery of higher accuracy for long-term prediction. As an alternative to the susceptible-infected-resistant (SIR)-based models, this study proposes a hybrid machine learning approach to predict the COVID-19 and we exemplify its potential using data from Hungary. The hybrid machine learning methods of adaptive network-based fuzzy inference system (ANFIS) and multi-layered perceptron-imperialist competitive algorithm (MLP-ICA) are used to predict time series of infected individuals and mortality rate. The models predict that by late May, the outbreak and the total morality will drop substantially. The validation is performed for nine days with promising results, which confirms the model accuracy. It is expected that the model maintains its accuracy as long as no significant interruption occurs. Based on the results reported here, and due to the complex nature of the COVID-19 outbreak and variation in its behavior from nation-to-nation, this study suggests machine learning as an effective tool to model the outbreak. This paper provides an initial benchmarking to demonstrate the potential of machine learning for future research.

Result: They underscore the transformative potential of artificial intelligence (AI) by highlighting how it shapes market knowledge, encourages customized approaches, and improves marketing efficacy in the business-to-business (B2B) space. Conclusion: In order to create a path for responsible AI integration in B2B marketing, the study concludes with recommendations for standardized terminology related to AI, practical insights into implementation challenges, and ethical issues.

According to evolutionary cancer cell biology ECCB, cancer stem cells do not arise from normal stem cells, but rather from the functional ACD phenotype of the germline. This phenotype proliferates through asymmetric cell division, producing self-renewing cells and non-proliferating daughter cells with cancer stem cell qualities (CSCs). ECCB posits that cancer stem cells themselves do not proliferate. Similar to protists, there is a close reciprocal relationship between both sister cells that collectively form a germ and stem cell lineage. These sister cells share functional roles: the proliferating cancer germline cells generate stem cells, while the non-proliferating cancer stem cells accumulate progenitor cells for new germline clones. ECCB distinguishes between primary CSCs, which are associated with carcinogenesis and primary tumors, and secondary CSCs, which are linked to metastases. This unicellular stem cell system is homologous to that of parasitic protists, such as amoebae. Both cancer stem cells and amoebae stem cells are generated by an oxygen-sensitive germline and are vulnerable to damage when oxygen levels exceed 6.0% (germline hyperoxia). Oxygen concentrations above this threshold can damage the germline genome. Dysfunctional germline cells do not undergo senescence; instead, they continue to cycle through defective symmetric cell cycles However, to regain functionality, the germline genome requires repair by hyperpolyploid giant cells known as native PGCCs, which are homologous to the multinucleated genome repair structures MGRS found in protists. Native PGCCs differ in some respects from genotoxic-induced PGCCs

Lymphadenopathy is a common manifestation of both reactive and malignant diseases, and fine needle aspiration (FNA) is an effective and inexpensive screening method. It can prevent unnecessary invasive surgery and excisional biopsy, especially in benign cases. Unfortunately, the lack of universally accepted terminology for reporting results has hindered its widespread support. The Sydney system proposal for lymph node cytopathology categorization and reporting introduced five diagnostic categories to address the lack of universally accepted terminology for reporting results in lymphadenopathy. Our study analyzed 188 lymph node FNC samples from King Abdulaziz University Hospital, Saudi Arabia, examining clinical follow-up data, pathology records, patient information, and final diagnosis from January 2019 to December 2022. Most specimens were from axillary LNs, with 99.5% tissue correlation. The Sydney System Category classification identified 56.9% of cases as malignant, while 26.1% were benign. The final surgical specimen diagnosis revealed a higher percentage of malignant diagnoses, with the highest ROM in malignant/Category V. In conclusion, our study demonstrates that LN-FNAC offers high diagnostic accuracy for LN aspirates, with the Sydney approach potentially aiding risk stratification and achieving consistency in cytologic diagnosis, but further multi-centric research is needed.

Background & Objective: Acne Vulgaris is a common skin disease, with 5 % prevalence in Pakistan and has a significant physiological, psychological, emotional and social impact on the population, our study aims to estimate its annual economic burden per person in Pakistan.Methodology: Economic burden was estimated by using Cost of Illness analysis. All types of costs, including direct medication costs, direct non-medical costs and indirect costs due to loss of work. Data were collected from online databases and literature reviews. Results: Cost of illness analysis estimated that the cost of Acne Vulgaris treatment varies for mild, Moderate and severe acne. Acne is causing an annual economic burden of PKR 1,92,366 PKR per person (direct cost is PKR 1,86,366 and indirect cost 6,000) for an expensive treatment and PKR 53,550 (direct cost is PKR 47550 and indirect cost 6,000) for a cheap treatment. Limitation: Being an LMIC, Pakistan needs extensive study on the pharmacoeconomic analysis of Acne for proper and rational allocation of resources. Conclusion: Acne has a significant economic burden in Pakistan. Even with significant impact of Acne, there is very minute work done about Acne in Pakistan.

Introduction: Gastric cancer (GC) is one of the most common cancers in the world. It is a very aggressive and heterogeneous tumor. GC does not cause symptoms, so it is often diagnosed in an advanced stage and associated with poor prognosis. Despite new treatment options, it still remains a therapeutic problem. An important element determining the method of treatment of locally advanced gastric cancer (LAGC) is the assessment of lymph node metastases in preoperative and postoperative imaging and/or histopathological examination.Aim: The assessment of lymphovascular invasion (LVI) in histopathological examination in patients with LAGC after gastrectomy. The groups of patients were divided into patients who received preoperative chemotherapy, patients without preoperative chemotherapy, and all patients. Additionally, we assessed the correlation between the presence of LVI and the number of lymph nodes collected during gastrectomy.Material and method: We collected patients with histologically confirmed GC after gastrectomy. The collected samples were divided into three subgroups: patients with neoadjuvant chemotherapy (NAC), patients without NAC, and all patients. Histopathological examination assessed the presence of LVI infiltration. We then assessed the correlation between the presence of LVI and the presence of lymph node metastasis in GC. Additionally, we assessed the correlation between LVI and the number of lymph nodes evaluated in patients in each group. The statistical analyses were performed using Statistica v13.3 and Microsoft Excel 2021. The significance limit was set at p<0.05.Results:The presence of LVI strongly correlated with node involvement, and the result was statistically significant in all patients and the group of patients treated with NAC. The difference was not statistically significant in the group not treated by NAC. Additionally, we did not observe a correlation between the presence of LVI and the number of metastatic lymph nodes in GC.Summary and Conclusions: The presence of LVI in a patient with GC indicates a high probability of lymph node metastasis, which should translate into therapeutic procedures. Assessment of LVI may help identify potential patients with lymph node metastases, particularly in patients undergoing endoscopic resection without planned lymphadenectomy. It is advisable to expand research on a larger scale in order to establish clear standards in this area.

This paper explores the views of a group of young men aged 16–18, studying towards a Level 1 diploma in music in the North East area of England. It uses the conceptualization of “social haunting” to focus our discussions about how Level 1 learners articulated their experiences in the context of their learning journeys and perceived marginalization. The research took place at a large Further Education (FE) college and included a series of five “research encounters” with the group of Level 1 learners. These encounters included a range of activities, resulting in a variety of data being collected, including several activity worksheets, structured and unstructured focus group interviews, and questionnaires. This paper focusses on the outcomes of a single research activity that focused on exploring the topic of marginalization. We present a discussion on social haunting as one of the emerging findings from this research encounter, outlining how the reality of the social and cultural legacy of the UK’s industrial past can shape today’s youth and their futures. We will talk about the young men’s views of marginalization, their school-to-work transitions, the formation of masculinity in post-industrial communities and the role of Further Education in it. The paper concludes by discussing some insights for practice and future research.

Proteins are considered to be the main carriers of antigenic properties of Mycobacterium tuberculosis and Mycobacterium bovis, the causative agents of tuberculosis, the most serious infectious disease. Neutrophils, following resident macrophages, are among the first to attack the mycobacteria in defense of the organism. Neutrophils themselves are also the target of mycobacterial products; and their effect on neutrophil functions has been less studied. We have obtained about 70 protein fractions from M. bovis lysate; among them four protein fractions (10, 22, 24, and 40 kDa) had high serological activity against the serum of a rabbit immunized with M. bovis cells. We studied the effect of the serologically active proteins isolated from M. bovis on the generation of reactive oxygen species by bone marrow granulocytes of the Balb/c mouse, evaluated by luminol-dependent chemiluminescence. For comparison, two synthetic peptides (both 3 kDa) carrying immunogenic epitopes of MPB 70 protein (M. bovis) were taken. Proteins of 10, 22, and 24 kDa at concentrations of 83, 80, and 59 ng/mL, respectively, were found to activate ROS generation by mouse granulocytes. The 10- and 40-kDa antigens inhibited the receptor-mediated respiratory responses to opsonized zymosan (OZ) and N-formyl-MLF peptide (fMLF) but significantly enhanced the response to the phorbol ester PMA, which directly activates protein kinase C. Antigens with molecular weights of 22 and 24 kDa enhanced the fMLF-induced response and had no effect on the response activated by PMA. The response to OZ was suppressed in the presence of the 22 kDa protein. Synthetic peptides over a wide range of concentrations showed no activity in any case. All M. bovis proteins examined did not affect both proliferation and cell viability of the A549 and THP-1 cells; therefore, they have no cytotoxic or proliferative effects. Thus, serologically active proteins with molecular weights of 10, 22, 24, and 40 kDa isolated from M. bovis modulated the respiratory responses of mouse granulocytes induced by the formyl peptide, while proteins of 10, 22, and 40 kDa inhibited the responses induced by OZ.

For the first time, this study identified seven potential ligands with high binding energies through the docking approach against the Crystal Structure of human Melanoma-associated antigen B1 (MAGEB1). The ligands—Imatinib, Bafatinib, Diosmin, Ginkgetin, Bilobetin, Amentoflavone, and Hypericin—showing strong binding energies around -10 kcal/mol, indicate a potentially robust interaction with the target protein. Moreover, the additional step of predicting toxicity properties using the pKCSM server provides valuable insights into the safety profiles of these ligands. From these results, the parameters for Diosmin: —Max. tolerated dose (human),- Oral Rat Acute Toxicity (LD50), and - Oral Rat Chronic Toxicity (LOAEL)—suggest a favorable safety profile, making it a potential candidate for further consideration against Melanoma. Moving forward, it's advisable to conduct further experimental validations, including in vitro and in vivo studies, to confirm the efficacy and safety of Diosmin and other potential ligands. Consideration of pharmacokinetics, metabolism, and specific mechanisms of action will contribute to a comprehensive understanding of these compounds' potential as therapeutic agents.

The effects of the coolant pulsation and the film cooling with the plasma aerodynamic actuation (PAA) could be herein explored via large eddy simulations. The electrohydrodynamic force derived from the PAA was solved through the phenomenological plasma model. The Strouhal number of the sinusoidal coolant pulsation and the averaged pulsation blowing ratio were 0.25 and 1.0, respectively. Comprehensive analyses were carried out on the time-averaged flow fields, and the results revealed that the pulsed cooling jet might cause a deeper penetration into the crossflow, and this phenomenon could be remarkably mitigated by the downward force of the PAA. Furthermore, because of the coolant pulsation, the counter rotating vortex pair (CRVP) expanded to lifted off the wall less well, and the PAA lessened the negative lift-off impact and entrapment from the CRVP. Then, the spatial-temporal development of the coherent structures was figured out by the alterations of the centerline temperature, reflecting formation of the intermittent coherent structures rather than hairpin vortices due to the coolant pulsation, and their size and upcast behaviors were reduced by the PAA. Consequently, there was a basic suppression of the turbulent mixing of the cooling fluid with the crossflow. Finally, the three-dimensional streamlines confirmed that the coherent structure dynamic behaviors were significantly regulated by the PAA for alleviating the adverse influences of the coolant pulsation. In summary, through controlling how the dominating coherent structures evolve throughout time and space, the PAA can effectively increase the pulsed film cooling efficiency.

In this paper, some characterizations of fuzzifying strong compactness are given, including characterizations in terms of nets and pre -subbases. Several characterizations of locally strong compactness in the framework of fuzzifying topology are introduced and the mapping theorems are obtained.

This study aims to evaluate the potential of machine learning algorithms (Random Forest and Support Vector Machine) in predicting the open porosity of a general-use industrial mortar applied to different substrates based on the characteristics of both the mortar and substrates. For this purpose, an experimental database comprising 1592 samples of industrial mortar applied to five different substrates (hollowed ceramic brick, solid ceramic brick, concrete block, concrete slab, and lightweight concrete block) was generated by an experimental program. The samples were characterized by bulk density, open porosity, capillary water absorption coefficient, drying index, and compressive strength. This database was then used to train and test the machine learning algorithms to predict the open porosity of the mortar. The results indicate that it is possible to predict the open porosity of the mortar with good prediction accuracy and that both Random Forest (RF) and Support Vector Machine (SVM) algorithms (RF =0.880; SVM = 0.896) are suitable for this task. Regarding the main characteristics that influence the open porosity of the mortar, bulk density and the open porosity of the substrate are significant factors. Furthermore, the study employs a straightforward methodology with a machine learning no-code platform, enhancing the replicability of its findings for future research and practical implementations.

Background: Alzheimer's disease (AD) is a leading cause of dementia, significantly influenced by the Apolipoprotein E4 (APOE4) gene and gender. This study aims to use machine learning (ML) algorithms to predict brain age and assess AD risk by considering the effects of APOE4 genotype and gender. Methods: We collected brain volumetric MRI data and medical records from 1100 cognitively unimpaired individuals and 602 AD patients. We applied three ML regression models—XGBoost, Random Forest (RF), and Linear Regression (LR)—to predict brain age. Additionally, we introduced two novel metrics, Brain Age Difference (BAD) and Integrated Difference (ID), to evaluate model performance and analyze the influence of APOE4 genotype and gender on brain aging. Results: AD patients displayed significantly older brain ages compared to their chronological ages, with BADs ranging from 6.5 to 10 years. The RF model outperformed both XGBoost and LR in terms of accuracy, delivering higher ID values and more precise predictions. Comparing APOE4 carriers with non-carriers, the models showed enhanced ID values and consistent brain age predictions, improving overall performance. Gender-specific analyses indicated slight enhancements, with models performing equally well on both genders. It indicates that APOE4 may be a more robust predictor of brain age than gender. Conclusion: Robust ML models for brain age prediction can be pivotal in the early detection of AD risk via MRI brain structural imaging, especially for APOE4 carriers. Such early identification may facilitate timely preventive interventions for AD.

Previous reviews have investigated machine learning (ML) models used to predict the risk of developing preeclampsia but have not described how the ML models are intended to be deployed throughout pregnancy or feature performance. The aim of this study is to provide an overview of the existing ML models and their intended deployment patterns and performance along with identified features of high importance. This review used the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses 2020 guidelines. PubMed, Engineering Village, and the Association for Computing Machinery were searched between January and February 2024. A total of 86 studies were found of which 14 were included. Out of 12 studies, eight showed the intent to use the ML model as a single-use, two intended a dual-use, and two intended multiple-use. A total of seven studies listed the features of the highest importance. Systolic and diastolic blood pressure were listed along with mean arterial pressure to be of high importance. Out of four studies intending to use the ML model more than a single-use, three of them were conducted in the years 2023 and 2024, whereas the remaining study is from 2011. No ML model emerged as superior across the subgroups of PE. Utilizing body mass index and either mean arterial pressure or diastolic blood pressure and systolic blood pressure may benefit the performance. The deployment patterns are mainly single use being within the gestation weeks 11+0 to 14+1.

The importance of radar-based human activity recognition increased significantly over the last two decades in safety and smart surveillance applications due to its superiority towards vision-based sensing in the presence of poor environmental conditions, like illumination, increased radiative heat, occlusion, and fog. An increased public sensitivity for privacy protection, and the progress of cost-effective manufacturing, led to a higher acceptance and distribution. Deep learning approaches proved that the manual feature extraction that relies heavily upon process knowledge can be avoided by its hierarchical, non-descriptive nature. On the other hand, ML techniques based on manual feature extraction provide a robust, yet empirical based approach where the computational effort is comparatively low. This review outlines the basics of classical ML- and DL-based human activity recognition and its advances while taking recent progress of both categories into regard. For every category, state-of-the-art methods are introduced, briefly explained and discussed in terms of their pros, cons and gaps. A comparative study is performed to evaluate the performance and computational effort based on a benchmarking data set to provide a common basis for the assessment of the techniques’ degree of suitability.

Abstract: The Internet of Things (IoT) has witnessed rapid and widespread adoption across various domains, including transportation, healthcare, education, agriculture, urban planning, smart homes, and more. Despite its transformative potential, this pervasive deployment of IoT devices has introduced new challenges, particularly concerning security and privacy threats such as unauthorized data access and device breaches. The excessive usage of these technological devices, coupled with the absence of robust security and privacy systems for user data, calls for a comprehensive approach to address these issues. In this study, we propose a novel framework designed to analyze, audit, test, and detect potential vulnerabilities within IoT environments and applications. The central components of the proposed framework include a machine learning algorithm for data classification and attack detection, along with the integration of Blockchain technology to enhance security measures. Specifically, the framework performs an in-depth analysis of user data to identify potential security or privacy vulnerabilities. Additionally, it conducts rigorous testing of smart services and automated data-collecting devices. To evaluate the effectiveness of our classification algorithm, we conducted a comprehensive implementation on a real-world IoT dataset. The results showcased the efficiency and accuracy of our approach in detecting and mitigating potential threats. Furthermore, based on our research findings, we provide valuable recommendations for enhancing security and privacy in IoT ecosystems. We also highlight emerging trends in the security and privacy domains, which can serve as valuable insights for researchers and practitioners. In conclusion, our proposed framework offers a robust and proactive approach to address the security and privacy challenges, such as unauthorized data access and device breaches posed by the widespread adoption of IoT devices. By combining machine learning algorithms and Blockchain technology, we contribute to safeguarding user data and fostering a secure environment for IoT applications. This study lays the groundwork for further advancements in the realm of IoT security and privacy, ensuring a safer and more resilient IoT landscape for the future.

There is only a very short reaction time for people to find the best way out of a building in a fire outbreak. Software applications can be used to assist the rapid evacuation of victims; however, this is an arduous task, which requires an understanding of advanced technologies. Since well-known pathway algorithms (such as, Dijkstra, Bellman-Ford and A*) can lead to serious problems over performance, we decided to make use of deep reinforcement learning techniques. A wide range of strategies including a random initialization of replay buffer and transfer learning were assessed in three projects involving schools of different sizes. The results showed the proposal was viable and that in most cases the performance of transfer learning was superior. In addition, the study raised challenges that had to be faced in the future.

The paper portrays predictive models for dissolved oxygen (DO) levels in an urban lake using common water quality parameters like Temperature, pH, Conductivity and ORP at a time. Data were sampled using three real-time, industry-standard sensors, OPTOD, CTZN, and PHEHT, and then interpolated using the ArcGIS kriging technique. Correlation studies were analyzed through the ML algorithm, the correlation study signified a highly positive correlation between DO and other water parameters and the model was corroborated by R-score in order to create the linear regression model. In addition, an artificial neural network- a machine learning method using the Levenberg-Marquardt algorithm was developed to build a model to predict the do as well. Then, the performance of the models was validated and also the R² accuracy was checked of the predicted data against the actual data. Thus, the appropriateness of the ANN model for the forecasting of investigated attributes is indicated by the fact that the discrepancy between the forecasted and real ANN model is significantly lesser than that of the regression model. However, the model can be used to reveal DO data from unknown urban lake water.

Time and cost-efficient techniques are essential to avoid extra conventional experimental studies with large date-set to characterize the mechanical properties of composite materials. Correlation between the structural performance and mechanical properties could be captured through the efficient predictive models. Several ensembled Machine Learning (ML) methods were implemented in this study, to materially characterize carbon nanotube (CNT)-reinforced cement-based composites. Proposed models were compared with each other to represent the accuracy of each method. The Flexural and Compressive Strength (target values) of CNT reinforced composites were predicted based on the data-rich framework provided in previous experimental investigations. These data were utilized for training of the proposed models by employing SciKit-Learn library in Python, followed by hyper-parameter tuning and k-fold cross-validation method for obtaining an efficient model to predict the target values. Random Forest (RF) and Gradient Boosting Machine (GBM) were developed for this purpose. The findings of this study would be useful for prospective composite designers in case of sufficient experimental data availability for ML model training.

The present work proposed a low-cost portable device as an enabling technology for Smart Farms using multispectral imaging and Machine Learning in soil texture. Clay is an important factor for the verification and monitoring of soil use due to its fast reaction to chemical and surface changes. The system developed uses the analysis of reflectance in wavebands for clay prediction. The selection of each wavelength is performed through an LED lamp panel. A NoIR microcamera controlled by a Raspberry Pi device is employed to acquire the image and unfold it in RGB histograms. Results showed an good prediction performance with R2 of 0.96, RMSEC of 3.66% and RMSECV of 16.87%. The high portability allows the equipment to be used in a field providing strategic information related to soil sciences.

In Southern Asia, Bangladesh is a well-known developing country. Because of COVID-19, we continuously face challenges. Not only can these issues occur beyond economic or health concerns, but they also generate dangerous social problems, such as family abuse. Since the inception of this epidemic, multiple social crimes are looming. Remaining home during the lockout period enhances divorce rates. This research presents a customized forecast of family violence during the COVID-19 outbreak by using machine learning methods. In this paper, we have applied Random Forest, Logistic Regression, and Naive Bayes machine learning classifiers to predict family violence and discovered the feature importance. The performance of the classifiers is evaluated based on accuracy, precision, recall, and F-score. We have employed an oversampling strategy named synthetic minority oversampling technique (SMOTE) to solve the imbalance problem of our data. Even, we have tried to compare three machine learning model performances before and after balancing of normalization data. Finally, ROC analyses and confusion matrices were developed and analyzed by using data augmentation. Our proposed system with the random forest classifier performed better with 77% accuracy in comparison with other two machine learning classifiers.

Explosion monitoring is performed by infrasound and seismoacoustic sensor networks that are distributed globally, regionally, and locally. However, these networks are unevenly and sparsely distributed, especially in the local scale as maintaining and deploying networks is costly. With increasing interest in smaller yield explosions, the need for more dense networks has increased. To address this issue, we propose using smartphone sensors for explosion detection as they are cost-effective and easy to deploy. Although there are studies using smartphone sensors for explosion detection, the field is still in its infancy and new technologies need to be developed. We applied a machine learning model for explosion detection using smartphone microphones. The data used were from the Smartphone High-explosion Audio Recordings Dataset (SHAReD), a collection of 326 waveforms from 70 high-explosive (HE) events recorded on smartphones, and the ESC-50 dataset, a benchmarking dataset commonly used for environmental sound classification. Two machine learning models were trained and combined into an ensemble model for explosion detection. The resulting ensemble model classified audio signals as either “explosion,” “ambient,” or “other” with true positive rates (recall) greater than 96% for all three categories.

In this study, we conducted a comprehensive analysis of the spatial distribution of soil organic carbon stock (SOC stock) and the associated uncertainties in two soil layers (0–10 cm and 0–30 cm; SOC stock 10 and SOC stock 30 respectively), in Valchiavenna, an alpine valley located in northern Italy . We employed the digital soil mapping (DSM) approach within different machine learning models, including multivariate adaptive regression splines (MARS), random forest (RF), support vector regression (SVR), and elastic net (ENET). Our dataset comprised soil data from 110 profiles, with SOC stock calculations for all sampling points based on bulk density (BD), whether measured or estimated, considering the presence of rock fragments. As environmental covariates for our research we utilized environmental variables, in particular geomorphometric parameters derived from a digital elevation model (with a 20 m pixel resolution), land cover data, and climat-ic maps. To evaluate the effectiveness of our models, we evaluated their capacity to predict SOC stock 10 and SOC stock 30 using the coefficient of determination (R2). The results for the SOC stock 10 were as follows: MARS 0.39, ENET 0.41, RF 0.69, and SVR 0.50. For the SOC stock 30, the corresponding R2 values were: MARS 0.45, ENET 0.48, RF 0.65, and SVR 0.62. Additionally, we calculated the Root Mean Square Error (RMSE) and Mean Absolute Error (MAE) for further assessment. To map the spatial distribution of SOC stock and address uncertainties in both soil layers, we chose the RF model, due to its better performance, as indicated by the highest R2 and the lowest RMSE and MAE. The resulting SOC stock maps using the RF model demonstrated an accuracy of RMSE = 1.35 kg.m-2 for the SOC stock 10 and RMSE= 3.36 kg.m-2 for the SOC stock 30. To further evaluate and illustrate the precision of our soil maps, we conducted an uncertainty assessment and mapping by analyzing the standard deviation (SD) from 50 iterations of the best-performing RF model. This analysis effectively highlighted the high accuracy achieved in our soil maps. The maps of uncertainty demonstrated that the RF model better predicts the SOC stock 10 compared to the SOC stock 30.

No studies have examined the immune fingerprint of major neuro-cognitive psychosis (MNP) or deficit schizophrenia using M1 macrophage cytokines in combination with chemokines such as CCL-2 and CCL-11. The present study delineated the neuro-immune fingerprint of MNP/deficit schizophrenia by analyzing plasma levels of IL-1β, sIL-1RA, TNF-α, sTNFR1, sTNFR2, CCL-2 and CCL-11 in MNP (n=120) versus healthy controls (n=54) in association with neurocognitive deficits (as assessed with the Brief Assessment of Cognition in Schizophrenia) and PHEMN (psychotic, hostility, excitation, mannerism and negative) symptoms. All immune biomarkers were significantly higher in MNP than in normal controls. MNP was best predicted by a combination of CCL-11, TNF-α, IL-1β and sIL-1RA which yielded a bootstrapped (n=2000) area under the Receiver Operating Curve of 0.985. Composite scores reflecting M1 macrophage activity and neurotoxic potential including combined effects of CCL-11 plus CCL-2 were significantly increased in MNP. Nevertheless, the effects of increased IL-1β and TNF-α in MNP were attenuated (statistically) by increased sIL-1RA and sTNFR2, two negative immune-regulatory markers. A large part of the variance in PHEM (38.4%-52.6%) and negative (65.8-7439%) symptoms was explained by combinations of immune markers whereby CCL-11 was consistently the most important. The immune markers also explained a large part of the variance in the Mini Mental State examination, list learning, digit sequencing task, category instances, controlled word association, symbol coding and Tower of London. Soft Independent Modeling of Class Analogy performed on the biomarkers showed that the inter-class distance between the models constructed around MNP and controls was 19.3 indicating a good separation. Partial Least Squares analysis showed that 72.7% of the variance in overall phenomenology was explained by the regression on IL-1β, sIL-1RA, CCL-11, TNF-α (all positively) and education (inversely). It is concluded that the combination of the above-mentioned markers defines MNP as a distinct neuro-immune disorder and that those markers in combination explain a large part of the variance in memory and executivive impairments and PHEMN symptoms.

Advanced machine learning algorithms, have the potential to be successfully applied to many areas of system modelling. In the present study the capability of ten machine learning algorithms in predicting the structural damage of an 8-storey reinforced concrete frame building subjected to single and successive ground motions is examined. From this point of view, the initial damage state of the structural system, as well as 16 well known ground motion intensity measures are adopted as the features of the machine-learning algorithms that aim to predict the structural damage after each seismic event. The structural analyses are performed considering both real and artificial mainshock–aftershock sequences, while the structural damage is expressed in terms of two overall damage indices. The comparative study results in the most efficient damage index, as well as the most promising machine learning algorithm in predicting the structural response of a reinforced concrete building under single or multiple seismic events. Finally, the configured methodology deployed in a user-friendly web-application.

Deep learning (DL) and machine learning (ML) methods have recently contributed to the advancement of models in the various aspects of prediction, planning, and uncertainty analysis of smart cities and urban development. This paper presents the state of the art of DL and ML methods used in this realm. Through a novel taxonomy, the advances in model development and new application domains in urban sustainability and smart cities are presented. Findings reveal that five DL and ML methods have been most applied to address the different aspects of smart cities. These are artificial neural networks; support vector machines; decision trees; ensembles, Bayesians, hybrids, and neuro-fuzzy; and deep learning. It is also disclosed that energy, health, and urban transport are the main domains of smart cities that DL and ML methods contributed in to address their problems.

Considering the sustained increase of dengue outbreaks in Latin America in recent years, this study proposes the use of machine learning (ML) tools with epidemiological data, meteorological climate parameters considering El Niño and La Niña (Niño 3.4 Index), and socioeconomic and demographic phenomena as a basis for the construction of an early warning system for dengue outbreaks in Zulia State, Venezuela. The study area covers 21 municipalities. Two ML models, support vector regression machine (SVM-R) and Gaussian process regression (GPR), were used. The data were used raw, standardised, and normalized for each model to be trained. The predictions of dengue outbreaks from the GPR and SVR algorithms show agreement with the dates of the real data; it was determined that there is a range of 2 to 3 weeks depending on the municipality. These coincide with previous studies showing that the algorithms do not work properly for some municipalities.

Objectives: Cerebral edema, a prevalent consequence of brain injury, is associated with significant mortality and disability. Timely diagnosis and monitoring are crucial for patient prognosis. There is a pressing clinical demand for a real-time, non-invasive cerebral edema monitoring method. Ultrasound methods are prime candidates for such investigations due to their non-invasiveness nature; Methods: Acute cerebral edema by permanently occluding the left middle cerebral artery (MCA) was introduced in rats. Ultrasonic echo signals were collected at nine time points over a 24-hour period to extract features from both the time and frequency domains. Concurrently, histomorphological changes were examined. We utilized support vector machine (SVM), logistic regression (LR), decision tree (DT), and random forest (RF) algorithms for classifying cerebral edema types, and SVM, RF, and feedforward neural network (FNN) for predicting the cerebral infarction volume ratio; Results: The integration of 16 ultrasonic features associated with cerebral edema development with the RF model enabled effective classification of cerebral edema types with a high accuracy rate of 97.9%. Additionally, it provided an accurate prediction of the cerebral infarction volume ratio, with an R2 value of 0.8814; Conclusions: Our proposed strategy classifies cerebral edema and predicts the cerebral infarction volume ratio with satisfactory precision. The fusion of ultrasound echo features with machine learning presents a promising non-invasive approach for the monitoring of cerebral edema.

Classifiers face a myriad of challenges in today’s data-driven world, ranging from overfitting and high computational costs to low accuracy, imbalanced training datasets, and the notorious black box effect. Furthermore, many traditional classifiers struggle with the robust handling of noisy and missing feature values. In response to these hurdles, we present classification methods that leverage the power of feature partitioning learning and outranking measures. Our classification algorithms offer an innovative approach, eliminating the need for prior domain knowledge by automatically discerning feature intervals directly from the data. These intervals capture essential patterns and characteristics within the dataset, empowering our classifiers with newfound adaptability and insight. In addition, we employ outranking measures to mitigate the influence of noise and uncertainty in the data. Through pairwise comparisons of alternatives on each feature, we enhance the robustness and reliability of our classification outcomes. The developed classifiers are empirically evaluated on several data sets from UCI repository and are compared with well-known classifiers including k Nearest Neighbors (K-NN), Support Vector Machine (SVM), Random Forest (RF), Neural Network (NN), Naive Bayesian (NB) and Nearest Centroid (NC). The experiments result demonstrate that the classifiers based on feature interval learning and outranking approaches are robust to imbalanced data and to irrelevant features and achieve comparably and even better performances than the well-known classifiers in some cases. Moreover, our proposed classifiers produce more explainable models whilst preserving high predictive performance levels.

This study optimizes the placement and farm layout of Vertical Axis Wind Turbines (VAWTs) using a neural fuzzy network, an advanced machine learning system, and meta-heuristic algorithms. The methodology introduces a novel approach to enhance turbine efficiency and overall farm performance. The objective is to determine the optimal configuration of vertical axis wind turbines using a neural-fuzzy system and meta-heuristic optimizers. Turbine efficiency and power generation rates are assessed through three-dimensional numerical simulations based on the Reynolds-averaged Navier-Stokes equations. This innovative design, featuring straight blades with bevel-angle vortex generators, represents a significant advancement over traditional straight-blade VAWTs. Comparative analyses demonstrate that the oblique configuration exhibits higher average output moment and power. A novel concept integrates the strengths of Darrieus VAWTs, enhancing efficiency through vortex generator integration. Simulation results are validated with empirical data, confirming the superior aerodynamic efficiency and increased power generation of the oblique configuration. Inspired by the optimal group movements of birds, this study recommends adopting the oblique arrangement for improved wind turbine performance.

This paper introduces an intelligent model that combines military expertise with the latest ad-vancements in machine learning (ML) and Geographic Information Systems (GIS) to support humanitarian demining decision-making processes. The model is based on direct input and val-idation from field decision-makers for their practical applicability and effectiveness. With a survey polling the inputs of demining experts, 95% of the responses came with an affirmation of the potential of the model to reduce threats and increase operational efficiency. It includes mili-tary-specific factors that factor in the proximity to strategic locations as well as environmental variables like vegetation cover and terrain resolution. With Gradient Boosting algorithms such as XGBoost and LightGBM, the accuracy rate is almost 97%. Such precision levels further enhance threat assessment, better allocation of resources, and around a 30% reduction in the cost and time of conducting demining operations, signifying a strong synergy of human expertise with algo-rithmic precision for maximal safety and effectiveness in demining

Taste determination in small molecules is critical in food chemistry, but traditional experimental methods can be time-consuming. Consequently, computational techniques have emerged as val-uable tools for this task. In this study, we explore taste prediction using various molecular feature representations and assess the performance of different machine learning algorithms on a dataset comprising 2,601 molecules. The results reveal that GNN-based models outperform other ap-proaches in taste prediction. Moreover, consensus models that combine diverse molecular repre-sentations demonstrate improved performance. Among these, molecular fingerprints + GNN con-sensus model emerges as the top performer, highlighting the complementary strengths of GNNs and molecular fingerprints. These findings have significant implications for food chemistry research and related fields. By leveraging these computational approaches, taste prediction can be expedited, leading to advancements in understanding the relationship between molecular structure and taste perception in various food components and related compounds.

Safe, high-quality and economical electric energy transportation is the basic requirements of modern power system operation. Transformer, as one of the core equipment of power system and national grid system, has the characteristics of diverse types, variable models and wide deployment. It is the basic equipment for power system to realize voltage change and electric energy distribution. Because the power system transformer needs to operate with load for a long time, the probability of failure is usually higher than that of other power equipment in general. This paper starts from the transformer fault and fault diagnosis. Firstly, the transformer fault types, traditional transformer fault diagnosis techniques and the advantages of machine learning in transformer fault diagnosis are reviewed. Secondly, the application of information system theory and information entropy in transformer fault diagnosis is introduced. Then it introduces machine learning technology, feature selection and extraction technology in transformer fault diagnosis, and machine learning algorithms such as support vector machine and extreme learning machine for transformer fault diagnosis. Finally, the potential development trend of information system theory, information entropy and machine learning in transformer fault diagnosis is forecasted. The combination of transformer fault prediction and machine learning algorithm is helpful for power system maintenance personnel to accurately predict the running state of power equipment, and also provides a new method and technology for the safe and reliable operation and regular maintenance of power system.

Delayed cancer detection is one of the common causes of poor prognosis in case of many cancers including the cancers of the oral cavity. Despite improvement and development of new and efficient gene therapy treatments, very little has been done to algorithmically assess the impedance of these carcinomas. In this work, we attempt to annotate viable attributes in oral cancer gene datasets for identification of gingivobuccal cancer (GBC). We further apply supervised and unsupervised machine learning methods to the gene datasets revealing key candidate attributes for GBC prognosis. Our work highlights the importance of automated identification of key genes responsible for GBC that could perhaps be easily replicated to other forms of oral cancer detection.

The modeling and prediction of crop seed yield can be a vital improvement in the precision agriculture industry as it provides reliable assessments of the effectiveness of agro-traits. Here, multiple machine learning (ML) techniques are established for predicting sesame (Sesamum indicum L.) seed yield (SSY) and incorporating agro-morphological features. Models utilized for coupled PCA-ML (Principal component analysis-Machine Learning) methods were compared with original ML models to evaluate predicted efficiency. The Gaussian process regression (GPR) and Radial basis function neural network (RBF-NN) models exhibited the most accurate SSY predictions with determination coefficients or R2 values of 0.99 and 0.91, respectively. The root-mean-square error (RMSE) for the ML models fluctuated between 0 to 0.30 t/ha (metric tons/hectare) for the varied modeling process phases. Estimation of sesame seed yield with coupled PCA-ML models improved performance accuracy. The K-fold process suggested the utilization of datasets with the lowest error rates to ensure the continued accuracy of GPR and RBF models. Sensitivity analysis revealed the capsule number per plant (CPP), seed number per capsule (SPC), and 1000-seed weight (TSW) were the most significant seed yield determinants.

As cardiovascular diseases continue to be a leading cause of mortality, recent-ly, wearable devices for monitoring cardiac activity have gained much interest among medical community. This paper introduces an innovative ECG monitoring system based on a single – lead ECG machine enhanced with machine learning methods. The system only processes and analyses the ECG data, but also predict potential heart disease at an early stage. The wearable device was built on the ADS1298 and a microcontroller STM32L151xD. A server module based on REST API architecture style was designed to fa-cilitate interaction with web-based segment of the system. The module is responsible for receiving data in real time from microcontroller and their deliver to web – based segment. Algorithms for analyzing ECG signals have been developed, including band filter artifact removal, K-means clustering for signal segmentation, and PQRST analysis. Machine leaning methods as Isolation Forest have been employed for ECG anomaly detection. Moreover, a comparative analysis with various machine learning methods, including lo-gistic regression, random forest, SVM, XGBoost, decision forest and, CNNs was conducted to predict cardiovascular diseases. Convoluted Neural Networks (CNN) showed an accu-racy of 0.926, proving high effectiveness in ECG data process.

Analytics have become increasingly popular among sports in recent years, providing valuable information regarding physical and mental health. Many athletes have found that analytics during training can help to improve their performance, reduce the risk of injury, and enhance their overall well-being. This paper aims to improve the results of handball players by applying a method for measuring the influence of different trials on aggregate performance calculated per each athlete in order to qualify for the Olympic Games. By separating the isolated action of each trial, the result is an additional influence caused by the interaction of factors or the simultaneous action. That might explain why the neuromuscular feedback loop is utterly necessary to perform handball motor actions. Further on, the ML analysis can help identify areas for improvement, optimize training programs, and enhance overall team performance.

The redox properties of quinones underlie their unique characteristics as organic battery components that outperform the conventional inorganic ones. Furthermore, the redox properties could be precisely shaped by using different substituent groups. Machine learning and statistics, onthe other hand, have proven to be very powerful approaches for efficient in silico design of novel materials. Herein, we demonstrated the machine learning approach for the prediction of the redox activity of quinones that potentially can serve as organic battery components. For the needs of the present study, a database of small quinone-derived molecules was created. A large number of quantum chemical and chemometrics descriptors was generated for each molecule and subsequently different statistical approaches were applied to select the descriptors that most prominently characterize the relationship between structure and redox-potential. Various machine-learning methods for screening of prospective organic battery electrode materials were deployed to select the most trustworthy strategy for machine learning aided design of organic redox materials. It was found that ridge regression models perform better than regression decision tree and decision tree based ensemble algorithms.

In the context of developing machine learning models, until and unless we have the required data engineering and machine learning development competencies as well as the time to train and test different machine learning models and tune their hyperparameters, it is worth trying out the automatic machine learning features provided by several cloud-based and cloud-agnostic platforms. This paper explores the possibility of generating automatic machine learning models with low-code experience. We have developed criteria to compare different machine learning platforms for generating automatic machine learning models and presenting their results. Thereafter, lessons learned by developing automatic machine learning models from a sample dataset across four different machine learning platforms were elucidated. We have also interviewed machine learning experts to conceptualize their domain-specific problems that automatic machine learning platforms could address. Results showed that automatic machine learning platforms could provide a fast track for organizations seeking digitalization of their businesses. Automatic machine learning platforms help produce results, especially for time-constrained projects where resources are lacking. The contribution of this paper is in the form of a lab experiment in which we demonstrate how low-code platforms could provide a viable option to many business cases and henceforth provide a lane that is faster than the usual hiring and training of already scarce data scientists and to analytics projects that suffer from overruns.

In a computing context, cybersecurity is undergoing massive shifts in technology and its operations in recent days, and data science is driving the change. Extracting security incident patterns or insights from cybersecurity data and building corresponding data-driven model, is the key to make a security system automated and intelligent. To understand and analyze the actual phenomena with data, various scientific methods, machine learning techniques, processes, and systems are used, which is commonly known as data science. In this paper, we focus and briefly discuss cybersecurity data science, where the data is being gathered from relevant cybersecurity sources, and the analytics complement the latest data-driven patterns for providing more effective security solutions. The concept of cybersecurity data science allows making the computing process more actionable and intelligent as compared to traditional ones in the domain of cybersecurity. We then discuss and summarize a number of associated research issues and future directions. Furthermore, we provide a machine learning-based multi-layered framework for the purpose of cybersecurity modeling. Overall, our goal is not only to discuss cybersecurity data science and relevant methods but also to focus the applicability towards data-driven intelligent decision making for protecting the systems from cyber-attacks.

The increasing complexity of IP network infrastructures necessitates efficient and adaptive configuration management solutions. This paper presents an AI-driven framework that integrates machine learning and reinforcement learning techniques to enhance the management of configurations for IP network devices. The proposed approach leverages a comprehensive dataset comprising configuration parameters and performance metrics to train predictive models. Experimental results demonstrate that the framework achieves an accuracy of 88% in predicting optimal configurations, significantly outperforming traditional methods. Additionally, the framework exhibits an average response time of 150 milliseconds for applying configuration changes, underscoring its efficiency. A reinforcement learning agent is implemented to adapt to dynamic network conditions, yielding improved decision- making over time. The user interface designed for the framework facilitates real-time monitoring and visualization of network configurations. The findings suggest that the AI- driven framework not only streamlines configuration management processes but also empowers network administrators to proactively address network challenges. Future work will focus on scalability, integration with emerging technologies, and user feedback mechanisms to further enhance the framework's effectiveness.

Researchers are dedicated to providing effective solutions for serious problems such as mental health. This field of study ranges from understanding the impact of mental health ailments on individuals to identifying trends in mental health diseases based on various data points. Unfortunately, the journey from diagnosis to receiving a proper mental health regimen is costly and inaccessible to many. This necessitates the introduction of an affordable alternative that enables individuals with internet access to connect to a platform to determine whether they require the services of a mental health professional. Additionally, such a platform can assist mental health professionals in quickly identifying patients with mental health conditions. Our proposed solution leverages hidden trends in data obtained from 700 mental health patients at The local mental hospital in Pakistan. We have used this data to train a machine learning classifier capable of distinguishing between Psychotic and Neurotic disorders. Psychotic disorders are a group of mental health conditions characterized by a loss of touch with reality whereas neurotic disorders are a group of mental health conditions characterized by excessive worry, anxiety, or stress that does not involve a loss of touch with reality. Our model achieved an overall accuracy score of 73%, indicating successful prediction of the correct diagnosis in 73 out of 100 pipeline tests. While these results may not seem significant, an increase in data points would surely allow for further improvements in these results and the overall solution we propose.

Due to the significant price difference, expensive oils like olive oil are often blended with cheaper edible oils. This practice of adulteration in edible oils, aimed at increasing profits for producers, poses a major concern for consumers. Furthermore, adulteration in edible oils can lead to various health issues impacting consumer well-being. In order to meet the requirements of fast, non-destructive, universal, accurate and reliable quality testing for edible oil, the oblique-incidence reflectivity difference (OIRD) method combined with machine learning algorithms was introduced to detect a variety of edible oils. The prediction accuracy of Gradient Boosting, K-Nearest Neighbor, and Random Forest models exceeded 95%. Experimental results indicate that the OIRD method can serve as a powerful tool for detecting edible oils.

This paper presents a customized adaptive cascaded deep learning (ACDL) model for the design and performance prediction of metasurface absorbers. A multi-resonant metasurface absorber structure is introduced, with 10 target-driven design parameters. The proposed deep learning model takes advantage of cascading several sub-deep neural network (DNN) layers with forward noise mitigation capability. The inherent appearance of sparse data is completely dealt with in this work by proposing a trained adaptive selection technique. On the basis of the findings, the prediction response is quite fast and accurate enough to retrieve the design parameters of the studied metasurface absorber and with two sized patches of 4000 and 7000 datasets. The training loss taken form the second DNN of our proposed model shows logarithmic mean squared errors of 0.039 and 0.033 when using Keras and the adaptive method, respectively, with a dataset split of 4000. On the contrary, for a dataset split of 7000, the errors are 0.049 with Keras and 0.045 with the adaptive method. On the other hand, the validation loss is evaluated using the mean square error method, which results in a loss with 4000 datasets split with the Keras method of 0.044, while it is 0.020 with the adaptive method. When extending the dataset to 7000, the validation loss with the keras splitting method is 0.0073, while it is improved, reaching 0.006 with the proposed adaptive method, and achieving a prediction accuracy of 94%. This proposed deep learning model can be deployed in the design process and synthesis of multi-resonant metasurface absorber structures. The proposed model shows its advantages of making the design process more efficient in sparse dataset handling, efficient approach in multi-resonance metasurface data pre-processing, less time consuming, and computationally valuable.

Atrial Fibrillation (AF) is known as one of the dominant cardiac disease that is associated with severe consequences such as risk of strokes. This cardiac arrhythmia can be efficiently diagnosed using EEG signals. However, AF episodes in EEG records are not always permanent for all subjects. In addition, lengthy subject preparation and ECG recording sessions makes this practice time consuming and not attractive for efficient diagnosis. One attractive solution for this problem will be the use of wearable Internet of Medical Things IoMT devices for EEG recording and AF detection. From another side the use machine learning for efficient diagnosis could provide high accurate diagnosis. However, the deployment of these wireless wearable devices faces the problems of limited processing capabilities and of energy scarcity. In this context, the design of energy efficient accurate on-sensor AF detection scheme using machine learning algorithms still requires a focused research effort. This paper proposes a wearable solution for ECG-based processing scheme for embedded AF detection. The proposed method achieved 100% sensitivity and 94.5% of specificity and accuracy of around 97.4 % for wide range of subjects while showing low energy-consumption. The obtained results show the efficiency of using Logistic Regression algorithm for accurate AF detection and attest about practical feasibility of the proposed approach in wearable IoMT devices.

The optimization of the energy grid is a critical task for ensuring a sustainable and efficient energy future. Deep machine learning techniques have the potential to improve energy grid optimization by predicting energy demands and supplies, optimizing energy production and distribution, and detecting and preventing fraud. However, there are also several challenges associated with the use of deep machine learning in energy grid optimization. These include the lack of standardized datasets and data quality issues, interpretability and explain-ability of machine learning models, ethical and social implications of using machine learning, and integration with existing energy infrastructure and regulatory frameworks. Having a clear understanding that continued research and developments in deep learning applications to energy field are crucial for achieving a sustainable and efficient energy future. This paper therefore reviewed existing literature for challenges and opportunities associated with deep machine learning in energy grid optimization; and highlights the importance of continued research and development in the field. The paper found out that opportunities for future research in deep machine learning for energy grid optimization include advancements in machine learning algorithms and techniques, development of new datasets and data collection methods, integration of machine learning with other emerging technologies. It also established needs for collaborative research and public-private partnerships.

The need for Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning (ML) technologies is increasingly being leveraged for optimizing Data centers’ (DCs’) operations as the volume of operations management data increase tremendously. These strategies can assist operators in better understanding their DC operations and making informed decisions up front to preserve service reliability and availability. Aiming at creating models that optimize energy efficiency, identify inefficient resource utilization and scheduling policies, and predict outages. Apart from model hyperparameter tuning, feature selection is a crucial step to identify relevant features with the objective of providing insight into the data, improving performance, and reducing computational expenses. Although several feature selection methods have been discussed in various domains, none have been discussed in the context of the data center. This paper introduces SHapley Additive exPlanation (SHAP), a class of additive feature attribution values-based feature selection that is rarely discussed in literature. We compared the effectiveness of SHAP method with several widely used methods. We used a real DC dataset obtained from the ENEA CRESCO6 cluster with 2,0832 cores to evaluate the methods. To demonstrate the comparison of the methods, we picked the top 10 most important features from each method, the predictions were retrained, and their performance was evaluated using MAE, RMSE, and MPAE. The results show that the SHAP-assisted feature selection performed best and align with human intuition.

Existing Reynolds Averaged Navier-Stokes based transition models do not accurately predict separation induced transition for low pressure turbines. Therefore, in this study, a novel framework based on computational fluids dynamics driven machine learning coupled with multi-expression and multi-objective optimization is explored to develop models which can improve the transition prediction for the T106A low pressure turbine at an isentropic exit Reynolds number of Re2is=100,000. Model formulations are proposed for the transfer and laminar eddy viscosity terms of the laminar kinetic energy transition model using seven non-dimensional pi groups. The multi-objective optimization approach makes use of cost functions based on the suction-side wall-shear stress and the pressure coefficient. A family of solutions is thus developed, whose performance is assessed using Pareto analysis and in terms of physical characteristics of separated-flow transition. Two models are found which bring the wall-shear stress profile in the separated region at least two times closer to the reference high-fidelity data than the baseline transition model. As these models are able to accurately predict the flow coming off the blade trailing edge, they are also able to significantly enhance the wake-mixing prediction over the baseline model.

NWCMSs are briefly introduced. The most important papers published in this field in recent years are reviewed. The advantages and limitations of the ML approach in applications to NWCMS are briefly discussed. Currently, this field is experiencing explosive growth. Several important papers are published every week. Thus, this paper should be considered a simple introduction to the problem.

Efficient triaging and referral assessment are critical in ensuring prompt medical intervention in the Community Health Care (CHC) system. However, the existing triaging systems in many Community Health Services are an intensive, time-consuming process and often lack accuracy, particularly for various symptoms that might represent heart failure or other health-threatening conditions. There is a noticeable limit of research papers describing AI technologies for triaging patients. This paper proposes a novel quantitative data-driven approach using machine learning (ML) modelling to improve the community clinical triaging process. Furthermore, this study aims to employ the feature selection process and machine learning power to reduce the triaging process’s waiting time and increase accuracy in clinical decision-making. The model was trained on medical records of “Heart Failure” patients’ dataset, which included demographics, past medical history, vital signs, medications, and clinical symptoms. A comparative study was conducted using the list of machine learning algorithms where XGBoost demonstrated the best performance among other ML models. The triage levels of 2,35,982 patients achieved an accuracy of 99.94%, precision of 0.9986, recall of 0.9958, and f1-score of 0.9972 within 0.059 seconds. The proposed diagnostic model can be implemented for the CHC decision system and be developed further for other medical conditions.

However, many application reviews are very large and difficult to process manually. Star rating is given of the whole application and the developer cannot analyze the single feature. In this research, we have scrapped 282,231 user reviews through different data scraping techniques. We have applied the text classification on these user reviews. We have applied different algorithms and find the precision, accuracy, F1 score and recall. In evaluated results, we have to also find the best algorithm.

Energy efficiency of Data Center (DC) operations heavily relies on IT and cooling systems performance. A reliable and efficient cooling system is necessary to produce a persistent flow of cold air to cool servers that are subjected to constantly increasing computational load due to the advent of IoT- enabled smart systems. Consequently, increased demand for computing power will bring about increased waste heat dissipation in data centers. In order to bring about a DC energy efficiency, it is imperative to explore the thermal characteristics analysis of an IT room (due to waste heat). This work encompasses the employment of an unsupervised machine learning modelling technique for uncovering weaknesses of the DC cooling system based on real DC monitoring thermal data. The findings of the analysis result in the identification of areas for energy efficiency improvement that will feed into DC recommendations. The methodology employed for this research includes statistical analysis of IT room thermal characteristics, and the identification of individual servers that frequently occur in the hotspot zones. A critical analysis has been conducted on available big dataset of ambient air temperature in the hot aisle of ENEA Portici CRESCO6 computing cluster. Clustering techniques have been used for hotspots localization as well as categorization of nodes based on surrounding air temperature ranges. The principles and approaches covered in this work are replicable for energy efficiency evaluation of any DC and thus, foster transferability. This work showcases applicability of best practices and guidelines in the context of a real commercial DC that transcends the set of existing metrics for DC energy efficiency assessment.

To secure computers and information systems from attackers taking advantage of vulnerabilities in the system to commit cybercrime, several methods have been proposed for real-time detection of vulnerabilities to improve security around information systems. As there are different types of cyberattacks, each of the existing state-of-the-art machine learning models depends on different algorithms for training which also impact their suitability for detection of a particular type of cyberattack. In this research, we analyzed each of the current state-of-theart machine learning models for different types of cyberattack detection from the past 10 years with a major emphasis on the most recent works for comparative study to identify the knowledge gap where work is still needed to be done with regard to detection of each category of cyberattack

Proteins in the crowded environment of human cells have often been studied regarding nonspecific interactions, misfolding, and aggregation, which may cause cellular malfunction and disease. Specifically, proteins with high abundance are more susceptible to these issues due to the law of mass action. Therefore, the surfaces of highly abundant cytoplasmic (HAC) proteins directly exposed to the environment can exhibit specific physicochemical, structural, and geometrical characteristics that reduce nonspecific interactions and adapt to the environment. However, the quantitative relationships between the overall surface descriptors still need clarification. Here, we used machine learning to identify HAC proteins using hydrophobicity, charge, roughness, secondary structures, and B-factor from the protein surfaces and quantify the contribution of each descriptor. First, several supervised learning algorithms were compared to solve binary classification problems for the surfaces of HAC and extracellular proteins. Then, logistic regression was adopted for the feature importance analysis of descriptors considering model performance (80.2% accuracy and 87.6% AUC) and interpretability. The HAC proteins showed positive correlations with negatively and positively charged areas but negative correlations with hydrophobicity, B-factor, beta structure proportion, roughness, and disordered regions proportion. Finally, the details of each descriptor could be explained concerning adaptative surface strategies of HAC proteins to regulate nonspecific interactions, protein folding, flexibility, stability, and adsorption. This study presented a novel approach using various surface descriptors to identify HAC proteins and provided quantitative design rules for the surfaces well-suited to human cellular crowded environments.

Background: Cognitive decline (CD) is a significant concern in Parkinson's disease (PD), highlighting the need for reliable risk prediction models for early intervention. This study used machine learning (ML) techniques to predict the CD risk over five-year in early-stage PD. Methods: Data from the Early Parkinson's Disease Longitudinal Singapore (2014 to 2018) was used to predict CD defined as a one-unit annual decrease or a one-unit decline in Montreal Cognitive Assessment (MoCA) over two consecutive years. Four ML methods—AutoScore, Random Forest, K-Nearest Neighbors and Neural Network—were applied using baseline demographics, clinical assessments and blood biomarkers. Model performance was evaluated using area under the curve (AUC), sensitivity and specificity. Results: Variable selection identified key predictors of CD, including education year, diastolic lying blood pressure, diastolic standing blood pressure, systolic lying blood pressure, Hoehn and Yahr scale, body mass index, phosphorylated tau at threonine 181, total tau, Neurofilament light chain and suppression of tumorigenicity 2. Random Forest was the most effective, achieving an AUC of 0.93 (95% CI: 0.89, 0.97), using 10-fold cross-validation. Conclusion: ML-based models offer potential for early identification of patients at high risk of CD, facilitating targeted interventions and improving patient outcomes in PD management.

As telecommunication networks continue to grow, the volume, variety, and velocity of such `big data' poses an immense challenge for security and service analysts. A primary data format in such networks are Call Detail Records (CDRs), and more recently, eXtended Detail Records (XDRs), that capture a variety of information such as caller, receiver, duration, carrier, datetime, amongst other attributes. In this short paper, we investigate the current research trends and challenges that exist within this data-rich domain. As part of this, we look at the domain-specific tasks that analysts will seek to address, we look at how machine learning has been utilised to date within this domain, and we present our current findings on open research problems that are ripe for further investigation.

Background: This study focuses on different manual handling methods and their effect on psychomotor skills concerning physical measurements (height, weight, age) and pinch strength. Objective: To assess the effects of three manual handling techniques on psychomotor skills and to establish the prediction of pinch strength by physical measurements. Methods: Three manual handling methods were tested: handling with a 90-degree elbow angle, handling with one hand, and handling with both hands. Psychomotor skills were quantified through handgrip strength, dexterity tests, and perceived exertion scales. Linear and random forest regression models were used to predict pinch strength from physical measurements. Results: Handling with a 90-degree elbow angle significantly increased perceived exertion and error rates while decreasing post-task handgrip strength. The one-hand method showed the least negative effect on psychomotor abilities. Weight emerged as the most influential predictor of pinch strength, followed by height and age. The random forest regression model outperformed the linear regression model, indicating its suitability for capturing complex non-linear relationships among variables. The Random Forest Regression model excelled in predicting weight with a high R² score of 0.78, showing strong predictive power. It was moderately effective for height with an R² score of 0.42. However, it performed poorly for age prediction, with an R² score of 0.01, indicating ineffective features for predicting age. Conclusion: The results emphasize the importance of ergonomic interventions and training programs to optimize manual handling practices, aiming to reduce physical strain and enhance worker productivity and safety. Maintaining muscle strength is crucial in older age groups due to the decline in pinch strength with age. These findings can inform intervention studies and the modification of occupational health and safety practices. Future research should aim to validate these results across diverse populations and explore additional factors influencing handgrip strength.

Combustion power plants emit carbon dioxide (CO₂), a major contributor to climate change. Direct emissions measurement is cost-prohibitive globally, while reporting varies in detail, recency, and granularity. To fill this gap and greatly increase the number of power plants worldwide with independent emissions monitoring, we developed and applied machine learning (ML) models using power plant plumes as proxy signals to estimate electric power generation and CO₂ emissions using Landsat 8, Sentinel-2, and PlanetScope imagery. Our ML models estimated power plant activity on each image snapshot, and then an aggregation model predicted plant utilization over a 30-day period. Lastly, emissions factors specific to region, fuel, and plant technology were used to convert estimated electricity generation to CO₂ emissions. Models were trained with reported hourly generation data in the US, Europe, and Australia and were validated with additional generation and emissions data from the US, Europe, Australia, Türkiye, and India. All results with sufficiently large sample sizes indicate that our models outperformed baseline approaches. In conducting external validation to compare modeled versus reported annual generation and emissions in the countries where available, we calculated the root mean square error overall for modeled countries with validation data as respectively 1.75 TWh (236 plants across 17 countries over 4 years) and 2.04 Mt CO₂ (207 plants across 17 countries over 4 years). Ultimately, we applied our ML method to plants that comprise 32% of global power plant CO₂ emissions averaged over 2015-2022. This dataset is the most comprehensive independent and free-of-cost global power plant point-source emissions monitoring system currently known to the authors and is publicly available at climatetrace.org to support global emissions reduction.

The pathophysiology of bipolar disorder (BD) remains mostly unclear. Yet, a valid biomarker is necessary to improve early detection of this serious disorder. Patients with manifest BD display reduced volumes of the hippocampal subfields and amygdala nuclei. In this pre-registered analysis, we used structural MRI (N=271, 7 sites), to compare volumes of hippocampus, amygdala, and their subfields/nuclei between help-seeking subjects divided in risk groups for BD as estimated by BPSS-P, BARS and EPIbipolar. We performed between-group comparisons using linear mixed effects models for all three risk assessment tools. Additionally, we aimed to differentiate the risk groups using linear support vector machine. We found no significant volume differences between the risk groups for all limbic structures during the main analysis. However, the SVM could still classify subjects at risk according to BPSS-P criteria with a balanced accuracy of 66.90% (95% CI 59.2– 74.6) for 10-fold cross-validation and 61.9% (95% CI 52.0– 71.9) for leave-one-site-out. Structural altera-tions of hippocampus and amygdala may not be as pronounced in young people at risk, nonetheless, ma-chine learning can predict estimated risk for BD above chance. This suggests that neural changes may not merely be a consequence of BD and may have prognostic clinical value.

Machine learning (ML) methodologies have been looked upon recently as a potential candidate for mitigating nonlinearity issues in optical communications. In this paper, we experimentally demonstrate a 40-Gb/s 256-quadrature amplitude modulation (QAM) signal-based Radio over Fiber (RoF) system for 50 km of standard single mode fiber length which utilizes support vector machine (SVM) decision method to indicate an effective nonlinearity mitigation. The influence of different impairments in the system is evaluated that includes the influences of Mach-Zehnder Modulator nonlinearities, in-phase and quadrature phase skew of the modulator. By utilizing SVM, the results demonstrated in terms of bit error rate and eye linearity suggest that impairments are significantly reduced and licit input signal power span of 5dBs is enlarged to 15 dBs.

The collision avoidance mechanism adopted by the IEEE 802.11 standard is not optimal. The mechanism employs a binary exponential backoff (BEB) algorithm in the medium access control (MAC) layer. Such an algorithm increases the backoff interval whenever a collision is detected to minimize the probability of subsequent collisions. However, the expansion of the backoff interval causes degradation of the radio spectrum utilization (i.e., bandwidth wastage). That problem worsens when the network has to manage the channel access to a dense number of stations, leading to a dramatic decrease in network performance. Furthermore, a wrong backoff setting increases the probability of collisions such that the stations experience numerous collisions before achieving the optimal backoff value. Therefore, to mitigate bandwidth wastage and, consequently, maximize the network performance, this work proposes using reinforcement learning (RL) algorithms, namely Deep Q Learning (DQN) and Deep Deterministic Policy Gradient (DDPG), to tackle such an optimization problem. As for the simulations, the NS-3 network simulator is used along with a toolkit known as NS3-gym, which integrates a reinforcement-learning (RL) framework into NS-3. The results demonstrate that DQN and DDPG have much better performance than BEB for static and dynamic scenarios, regardless of the number of stations. Moreover, the performance difference is amplified as the number of stations increases, with DQN and DDPG showing a 27% increase in throughput with 50 stations compared to BEB. Furthermore, DQN and DDPG presented similar performances.

The main purpose of this paper is to propose a novel optimization model with a new machine learning approach in the first section to achieve the best results in financial institutions in the second section. Since the constancy of efficacy derived from parametric and non-parametric is not significant, this paper provides a scientific assessment at the optimization section and proposes a novel combined parametric and non-parametric model which will be a new experiment in literature perception. A scientific assessment of banks based on a combination of the efficiency measurement method of CCR(Charnes, Cooper and Rhodes model) or CRS(Constant Return to Scale) BCC(Banker, Charnes, and Cooper model) or VRS (Variable Return to Scale) in Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA), as well as Stochastic Frontier Approach (SFA) for 65 banks during Feb to July 2020, are introduced. For analyzing the performance of the parametric and non-parametric approaches we have considered the linear regression and Unreplicated Linear Functional Relationship (ULFR). At the machine learning section, a novel four-layers data mining filtering pre-processes for selected supervised classification as well as unsupervised clustering algorithms to increase the accuracy and to remove unrelated attributes and data are applied. For the four kinds of preprocessing approaches of unsupervised attributes, supervised attributes, supervised instances, and unsupervised instances, we have chosen discretization, attribute selection, stratified remove folds, and resample filters respectively. Based on the nature of the suggested financial institution's dataset and attributes, the most appropriate preprocessing filter in each layer to achieve the highest performance is suggested. Finally, the superior bank, best performance model, and the most accurate algorithm are introduced. The results indicate that the bank number 56 is the superior bank. Among the proposed techniques, the novel recommended CVS compared with CCR-BCC and SFA models, has a more positive correlation with profit risk, and show a higher coefficient of determination values. Sequential Minimal Optimization(SMO) algorithm receives the highest accuracy in all four suggested filtering layers.

Accurate prediction of pregnancy risk levels is essential for preventing maternal and fetal complications. This study explores the application of ensemble machine learning models combined with oversampling techniques to predict pregnancy risk levels. We utilized a publicly available dataset from the UCI Machine Learning Repository, performing extensive feature engineering, including the introduction of new features like Pulse Pressure and Mean Arterial Pressure. To address class imbalance, we employed the Adaptive Synthetic Sampling (ADASYN) method. We conducted comprehensive hyperparameter tuning to enhance model performance and achieve optimal predictive results. Additional evaluation metrics, including sensitivity, specificity, and precision-recall curves, were used to assess model per- formance comprehensively. Our findings demonstrate that the Voting Classifier, particularly when combined with ADASYN oversampling and optimized hyperpa- rameters, achieves an accuracy of 87.19% and a macro F1 score of 87.66%, effec- tively distinguishing between ’low risk’ and ’mid risk’ pregnancy cases. This work contributes to the field by enhancing prediction accuracy, providing insights into important features influencing pregnancy risk, and addressing ethical considerations in deploying machine learning models in healthcare.

The main focus of this research is to explore the development of machine learning (ML) within a microservices setting for travel applications that offer real-time personalization to create user engagement and satisfaction. The system utilizes context awareness that is dynamic and relevant to the user, such as user profiles, location, and current activities to generate appropriate recommendations that develop with the user. It emerged from testing that there was a marked increase in engagement as evidenced by the click-through rates (CTR) which improved by 15% from what was observed in the conventional systems signifying that the model had worked. Furthermore, the accuracy of the recommendations in relation to the user preferences registered 85% accuracy for the implemented ML models and in addition to that the system employed microservices therefore tools for scaling up while integrating all the components kept the latency at less than 500 ms even during the busiest loads. In addition, the level of adaptation that was real-time was also improved as the system was able to react at a faster pace to changes in data, such as even the delay of flights, and made recommendations to passengers that were situationally appropriate.Finally, it is established that personalization enabled by machine learning contributes towards enhancing customer satisfaction, retention rate, and response time in the travel industry. The convergence of micro services and machine learning can be viewed as a great solution to the performance evolution and scaling requirements of data intelligence responsive markets like the travel industry which are highly active and interactive in nature.

Every year, the Montreal police are confronted with countless crimes committed by criminals. These crimes affect the quality of life of city residents and impose a socio-economic burden on the city. In this study, we conduct a comparative analysis based on several machine learning algorithms to develop a model to predict the crime category in Montreal. The performance of algorithms such as eXtreme Gradient Boosting (XGBoost), Decision Trees (DT) and Random Forest (RF) were analyzed. The performance analysis takes into account the performance metrics such as precision, accuracy, recall and F1-score. This analysis was based on crime data in Montreal from 2015 to 2023. This data is characterized by a strong imbalance between crime categories. To address the data imbalance problem, a data balancing approach based on the SMOTE-ENN algorithm was adopted. In the exploratory data analysis phase, temporal trends by crime category were highlighted. The results of the analysis showed that the XGBoost algorithm outperformed the other two. Specifically, the XGBoost algorithm achieves an accuracy of 92%, while DT and RF achieve an accuracy of 86% and 84%, respectively. As a result, XGBoost was deployed via a web application using the Flask and Swagger UI Python frameworks. This study provides the Montreal police with an effective tool to better utilize their resources in fighting crime. In addition, policymakers in the city of Montreal can use this tool to identify high-risk areas and give them more attention.

Prostate cancer is the second most frequent malignancy (after lung cancer) in men worldwide. Prostate tissue biopsies are usually graded using scores according to the Gleason grading system. This Gleason score is the most popular prognostic marker that reveals the potential aggressiveness of the disease. However, inter-observer variability in rating by human assessors is a major limiting factor. Such variability could lead to missing a severe case or suggesting unnecessary treatments. This study explores the discriminative ability of artificial intelligence (deep learning models) for Gleason score assessment. The study was designed to use whole-slide images of digitized H&E-stained biopsies of prostate tissues to automate the grading process and provide a remotely accessible clinical decision support system. Custom convolutional neural network architectures were trained on 10,616 images of prostate tissues. Gaussian filters were applied to pre-process the images and improve model performance. Transfer learning was applied to train eight machine learning architectures namely: Xception, VGG16 & 19, ResNet101, MobileNet, DenseNet121, EfficientNetB5 & B7. Efficient NetB7 had the best performance 85.2% compared with ground-truth classification by experts. Performance improves as more data is available. The model was deployed and hosted as a web application API on Google cloud service to ensure remote access. Tissue biopsy images can be uploaded and the corresponding Gleason score recovered immediately. This system reduces diagnostics turnaround time, increase throughput, and compensate for limited skills, especially in low resource settings.

Vibration monitoring is a critical aspect of assessing the health and performance of machinery and industrial processes. This study explores the application of machine learning techniques, specifically the Random Forest (RF) classification model, to predict and classify chatter—a detrimental self-excited vibration phenomenon—during machining operations. While sophisticated methods have been employed to address chatter, this research investigates the efficacy of a simplified RF model. The study leverages simulated vibration data, bypassing resource-intensive real-world data collection, to develop a versatile chatter detection model applicable across diverse machining configurations. The feature extraction process combines time-series features and Fast Fourier Transform (FFT) data features, streamlining the model while addressing challenges posed by feature selection. By focusing on the RF model’s simplicity and efficiency, this research advances chatter detection techniques, offering a practical tool with improved generalizability, computational efficiency, and ease of interpretation. The study demonstrates that innovation can reside in simplicity, opening avenues for wider applicability and accelerated progress in the machining industry.

In the last few decades, glaucoma became the second biggest leading cause of irreversible vision loss. Because of its asymptotic growth, it is not properly diagnosed until the relatively late stage. To stop the severe damage by glaucoma it is needed to detect glaucoma in its early stages. Surprisingly diabetes also be the greatest cause of glaucoma. In the modern era, artificial intelligence makes great progress in the medical image processing field. Image analysis based on machine learning gives a huge success in diagnosis glaucoma without any misdiagnosis. The aim of this proposed paper is to create an automated process that can detect glaucoma and diabetic retinopathy. Here various Machine Learning models are used and results of these methods are presented.

Successful engineering of a microbial host for efficient production of a target product from a given substrate can be viewed as an extensive optimization task. Such a task involves the selection of high activity enzymes as well as their gene expression regulatory control elements (i.e., promoters and ribosome binding sites). Finally, there is also the need to tune expression of multiple genes along a heterologous pathway to relieve constraints from rate-limiting step and help reduce metabolic burden on cells from unnecessary over-expression of high activity enzymes. While the aforementioned tasks could be performed through combinatorial experiments, such an approach incurs significant cost, time and effort, which is a handicap that can be relieved by application of modern machine learning tools. Such tools could attempt to predict high activity enzymes from sequence, but they are currently most usefully applied in classifying strong promoters from weaker ones as well as combinatorial tuning of expression of multiple genes. This perspective reviews the application of machine learning tools to aid metabolic pathway optimization through identifying challenges in metabolic engineering that could be overcome with the help of machine learning tools.

The use of machine learning techniques in predictive health care is on the rise with minimal data used for training machine-learning models to derive high accuracy predictions. In this paper, we propose such a system, which utilizes Heart Rate Variability (HRV) as features for training machine learning models. This paper further benchmarks the usefulness of HRV as features calculated from basic heart-rate data using a window shifting method. The benchmarking has been conducted using different machine-learning classifiers such as artificial neural network, decision tree, k-nearest neighbour and naive bays classifier. Empirical results using MIT-BIH Arrhythmia database shows that the proposed system can be used for highly efficient predictability of abnormality in heartbeat data series.

The number of connected IoT devices is increasing significantly due to their many benefits, including automation, improved efficiency and quality of life, and waste reducing. However, these devices have several vulnerabilities that have led to the rapid growth in the number of attacks. Therefore, several machine learning-based Intrusion Detection Systems (IDS) tools have been developed to detect intrusions and suspicious activity to and from a host (HIDS - Host IDS) or, in general, within the traffic of a network (NIDS - Network IDS). The proposed work performs a comparative analysis and an ablative study among recent machine learning-based NIDS to develop a benchmark of the different proposed strategies. The proposed work compares both shallow learning algorithms, such as Decision Trees, Random Forest, Naïve Bayes, Logistic Regression, XGBoost, and Support Vector Machine, and deep learning algorithms, such as DNN, CNN, and LSTM, whose approach is relatively new in the literature. The algorithms are evaluated on the KDD-99, NSL-KDD, UNSW-NB15, and IoT-23 datasets. The results show that the NIDS tools based on deep learning approaches achieve better performance in detecting network anomalies than shallow learning approaches.

The makeup of human microbiota has been linked to a number of autoimmune disorders. Recent developments in whole metagenome sequencing and 16S rRNA sequencing technology have considerably aided research into the microbiome and its relationship to disease. Due to the inherent high dimensionality and complexity of data generated by high-throughput platforms, conventional bioinformatics techniques could only provide an inadequate explanation for the most relevant changes and seldom provide correct predictions. Machine learning, on the other hand, is a subset of artificial intelligence applications that enable the untangling of high-dimensional systems and intricate knots in correlation by learning complex patterns and improving automatically from training data without being explicitly programmed. Machine learning is increasingly being utilized to research the influence of microbes on the onset of illness and other clinical features since computer power has increased dramatically in the last few decades. In this review paper, we focused on emerging methodological approaches of supervised machine learning algorithms for identification of autoimmune disorders utilizing metagenomics data, as well as the potential benefits and limitations of machine learning models in clinical applications.

Diabetics or Diabetic Mellitus is a metabolic disorder of blood sugar levels in the human body. It is a major non-communicable disease and involved many serious health risk issues. This disease is rapidly increasing in India. It is a chronic condition and it occurs when a body doesn't produce enough insulin hormone to control the blood sugar level. In this study, different variables have been analyzed that cause the diabetics, and different machine learning algorithms are used to predict whether an unknown sample is diabetes or not. For this purpose, PIMA diabetic detection for Female patients was used. Here 10 different classification model is used for prediction. Finally, the detailed performance analysis of the different variables of the PIMA dataset and also the classification model are discussed.

This paper presents an effective heart disease prediction model through detecting the anomalies, also known as outliers, in healthcare data using the unsupervised K-means clustering algorithm. Most existing approaches for detecting anomalies are based on constructing profiles of normal instances. However, such techniques require an adequate number of normal profiles to justify those models. Our proposed model first evaluates an \textit{optimal} value of K using Silhouette method. Next, it intends to locate anomalies that are far from a certain threshold distance with respect to their clusters. Finally, the five most popular classification techniques such as K-Nearest Neighbor (KNN), Random Forest (RF), Support Vector Machines (SVM), Naive Bayes (NB), and Logistic Regression (LR) are applied to build the resultant prediction model. The effectiveness of the proposed methodology is justified using a benchmark dataset of heart disease.

The focus was on developing machine learning models to predict the IC50 values of the compound OTX015 using gene expression levels of cancer cell lines. Through regression-based machine learning models, particularly the SVM model, trained on pre-laboratory data, consistent and generalizable performance with low error scores was achieved. These models underwent enhancement via hyperparameter optimization and were tested on validation data. The results indicate the utility of machine learning in drug discovery processes and personalized medicine, offering rapid and cost-effective predictions of IC50 values. However, for enhanced reliability, further model development, data gathering, and evaluation with diverse compounds are recommended. In conclusion, this research demonstrates the potential of machine learning approaches to optimize experimental processes, reduce costs, and contribute to personalized treatments in healthcare by accurately predicting compound responses.

The need for solvating and encapsulating hydro-sensitive molecules drives noticeable trends in the applications of cyclodextrins in pharmaceutical industry, food, polymer, materials, and agricultural science. Among them, β-cyclodextrin is one of the most used for the entrapment of phenolic acid compounds to mask the bitterness of wheat bran. In this regard, there is still a need for a good predictive model that assesses β-cyclodextrin bitterness masking capabilities for various phenolic compounds. This study uses a dataset of 20 phenolic acids docked to the β-cyclodextrin cavity to generate three different binding constants. The data from docking study were combined with topological, topographical and quantum-chemical features from the ligands in a machine learning-based structure-activity relationship study. Three different models for each binding constant were computed using a combination of Genetic Algorithm (GA) and Multiple Linear Regression (MLR) approaches. The developed ML/QSAR models showed a very good performance, with high predictive ability and correlation coefficients of 0.969 and 0.984, for training and test sets, respectively. The models revealed several factors responsible for a binding with cyclodextrin, showing positive contributions toward the binding affinity values, including such features as presence of six-membered rings in the molecule, branching, electronegativity values, and polar surface area.

This study focused on the predictive models incorporating machine learning techniques that induce new dynamics for forecasting energy generation, enabling effective planning, financing, and system monitoring. The research developed a machine learning-based power generation prediction model tailored explicitly for Kenya's Garissa solar power plant. The selected model demonstrated a root mean squared error of 5.23 during evaluation, resulting in a prediction accuracy of 90.42%. This high accuracy indicates that the model can be relied upon for precise generation prediction, facilitating effective planning, and system performance monitoring

In this study, machine learning was used to predict and analyze the behavior of occupants in Gifu City residences during winter. Global warming is currently progressing worldwide, and it is important to control greenhouse gas emissions from the perspective of adaptation and mitigation. Occupant behavior is highly individualized and must be analyzed to accurately determine a building's energy consumption. The accuracy of heating behavior prediction has been studied using three different methods: logistic regression, support vector machine (SVM), and deep neural network (DNN). The generalization ability of the support vector machine and the deep neural network was improved by parameter tuning. Parameter tuning of the SVM showed that the values of C and gamma affected the prediction accuracy. The prediction accuracy improved by approximately 11.9 %, confirming the effectiveness of parameter tuning on SVM. Parameter tuning of the DNN showed that the values of layer and neuron affected the prediction accuracy. Although parameter tuning also improved the prediction accuracy of DNN, and the rate of increase was lower than that of SVM.

In cotton cultivars, an insect that causes irreversible damage is the Spodoptera frugiperda, known as the fall armyworm. Since the visual detection of plants is a burdensome task for human inspection, the spectral information related to plant damage, registered on a spectral scale, can be useful. These measurements, associated with machine learning techniques, produce useful information for a rapid and non-invasive inspection method development. To contribute to this gap fulfillment, this paper proposes a machine learning framework to model the spectral response of cotton plants under the attack of the fall armyworm. Additionally, a theoretical model is presented, built from the results of the machine learning analysis, to infer this damage with up-to-date orbital sensors. The data was composed of the reflectance measurements collected at a cotton field with control plants and plants submitted to Spodoptera frugiperda damage. Their spectral response was recorded with a hand-held spectroradiometer ranging from 350 to 2,500 nm, for eight consecutive days. Different machine learning models were evaluated and the overall best model was defined by accuracies comparisons on a testing-set. A ranking approach was adopted based on the model accuracy, returning the most contributive wavelengths for the classification. Sequentially, an unsupervised neural network (Self-Organizing Map - SOM) was implemented to reduce data-dimensionality and assist in the definition of important spectral regions. The regions were associated with the spectral bands of the two sensors (OLI and MSI) and a theoretical model using a band simulation process with the overall best machine learning model was proposed. The results indicated that the Random Forest (RF) algorithm is the most suitable to predict cotton-plants damaged by insects and that the last day of analysis (8th day) was better to separate it, with F-measure equals 0.912. The ranking approach combined with the SOM method indicated the spectral regions at the red to near-infrared (650 to 1,350 nm) and shortwave infrared (1,570 to 1,640 nm) as the most important regions to the analysis. The proposed theoretical model simulated with the OLI and MSI sensor-bands returned an F-Measure of 0.865 and 0.886, respectively. In conclusion, this framework can be used to map cotton-plants under insect-attack. The theoretical model presents high accuracy to infer the insect-damaged on cotton plants based on multispectral bands from other sensors, being a useful tool for future research that intends to evaluate it in other areas and at different field scales.

The strong coupling between individual quantum emitters and resonant optical micro/nanocavities is beneficial to understand light and matter interactions. Here we propose a plasmonic nanoantenna placed on a metal film to achieve an ultra-high electric field enhancement in the nanogap and ultra-small optical mode volume. The strong coupling between a single quantum dot and the designed structure is investigated in detail by both numerical simulations and theoretical calculations. When a single QD is inserted into the nanogap of the silver nanoantenna, scattering spectra show remarkably large spectral splitting and typical anti-crossing behavior of the vacuum Rabi splitting, which can be realized in the scattering spectra by varying the nanoantenna thickness. Our work shows a possible way to enhance light-matter interaction at a single quantum emitter limit, which can be useful for future quantum and nanophotonic applications.

New setting is introduced to study chromatic number. Neutrosophic chromatic number and chromatic number are proposed in this way, some results are obtained. Classes of neutrosophic graphs are used to obtains these numbers and the representatives of the colors. Using colors to assigns to the vertices of neutrosophic graphs is applied. Some questions and problems are posed concerning ways to do further studies on this topic. Using strong edge to define the relation amid vertices which implies having different colors amid them and as consequences, choosing one vertex as a representative of each color to use them in a set of representatives and finally, using neutrosophic cardinality of this set to compute neutrosophic chromatic number. This specific relation amid edges is necessary to compute both chromatic number concerning the number of representative in the set of representatives and neutrosophic chromatic number concerning neutrosophic cardinality of set of representatives. If two vertices have no strong edge, then they can be assigned to same color even they’ve common edge. Basic familiarities with neutrosophic graph theory and graph theory are proposed for this article.
