Accurate prediction of defects in software components plays a vital role in administrating the quality of the quality and efficiency of the system to be developed. So we have written a systematic literature review in order to evaluate the four main defect prediction techniques. Defect prediction paves way for the testers to find bugs and modify them in order to achieve input to output conformance. In this paper we have discussed the open issues in predicting software defects and have provided with a detailed analyzation of different methods including Machine Learning, Integrated Approach, Cross-Project and Deep Forest algorithm in order to prevent these flaws. However, it is almost impossible to rule which method is better than the other so every technique can be analyzed separately and the best technique according to the problem at hand can be used or can be altered to create hybrid technique suitable for the cause.

Cancers remain the lead cause of disease-related, pediatric death in North America. The emerging field of complex systems has redefined cancer networks as a computational system with intractable algorithmic complexity. Herein, a tumor and its heterogeneous phenotypes are discussed as dynamical systems having multiple, strange attractors. Machine learning, network science and algorithmic information dynamics are discussed as current tools for cancer network reconstruction. Deep Learning architectures and computational fluid models are proposed for better forecasting gene expression patterns in cancer ecosystems. Cancer cell decision-making is investigated within the framework of complex systems and complexity theory.

In this paper we propose a novel self-supervised approach of keywords and keyphrases retrieval and extraction by an end-to-end deep learning approach, which is trained by contextually self-labelled corpus. Our proposed approach is novel to use contextual and semantic features to extract the keywords and has outperformed the state of the art. Through the experiment the proposed approach has been proved to be better in both semantic meaning and quality than the existing popular algorithms of keyword extraction. In addition, we propose to use contextual features from bidirectional transformers to automatically label short-sentence corpus with keywords and keyphrases to build the ground truth. This process avoids the human time to label the keywords and do not need any prior knowledge. To the best of our knowledge, our published dataset in this paper is a fine domain-independent corpus of short sentences with labelled keywords and keyphrases in the NLP community.

The exploitation and use of alternative synthetic methods, in the face of classical procedures that do not conform to the ethics of Green Chemistry, represent an ever present problem in pharmaceutical industry. The procedures for the synthesis of benzimidazoles have become a focus in synthetic organic chemistry, as they are building blocks of strong interest for the development of compounds with pharmacological activity. Various benzimidazole derivatives exhibit important activities such as antimicrobial, antiviral, anti-inflammatory and analgesic and some of the already synthesized compounds have found very strong application in medicine praxis. Here we report a selective and sustainable method for the synthesis of 1,2-disubstituted or 2-substituted benzimidazoles, starting from o-phenylenediamine in the presence of different aldehydes. The use of deep eutectic solvent (DES) both as reaction medium and reagent without any external solvent provides advantages in terms of yields as well as in the work up procedure of the reaction.

In order to design effective protective coatings against corrosion, the polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) as compound and composite with silver nanoparticles (nAg/PVA) were electrodeposited on copper surface employing electrochemical techniques such as linear potentiometry and cyclic voltammetry. A new paradigm was used to distinguish the features of coatings, i.e., a Deep Convolutional Neural Network (CNN) was implemented to automatically and hierarchically extract the discriminative characteristics from the information given by optical microscopy images. The main arguments that invoke a CNN implementation in the surface science of materials are the following: artificial intelligence techniques can be successfully applied to learn differences between surface coatings; based on their popularity for image processing, CNN can model images related to the problem of coatings; deep learning is able to extract the features that are distinguishable between material surfaces. To provide an overview of the copper surface, CNN was applied on microscope slides (CNN@microscopy) and inherently learnt distinctive characteristics for each class of surface morphology. The material surface morphology controlled by CNN without the interference of the human factor was successfully conducted, in our study, to extract the similarities/differences between unprotected and protected surfaces to establish the PVA and nAg/PVA performance to retard the copper corrosion.

This paper presents a novel approach for semantic segmentation of building roof in dense urban environment with Deep Convolution Neural Network (DCNN) using imagery acquired by a Chinese Very High Resolution (VHR) satellite mission, i.e. GaoFen-2 (GF-2). To provide an operational end-to-end work flow for accurate build roof mapping with feature extraction as well as image segmentation, a fully convolutional DCNN with both convolutional and deconvolutional layers is designed to perform the VHR image analysis for labeling pixels. Since the diverse urban patterns and building styles in large areas, sample image data sets of building roof and non-building roof are collected over different metropolitan regions in China. We selected typical cities with dense urban environment in each metropolitan region as study areas for collecting training and test samples. High performance cluster with GPU-mounted workstations is employed to perform the model training and optimization. With the building roof samples collected over different cities, the predictive model with multiple NN layers is developed for building roof labeling. The validation of the building roof map shows that the overall accuracy(OA) and the mean Intersection Over Union( mIOU) of DCNN based segmentation are 94.67%, 0.85 respectively, while CRF-refined segmentation achieved OA of 94.69% and mIOU of 0.83. The results suggest that the proposed approach is a promising solution for building roof mapping with VHR images over large areas across different urban and building patterns. With the operational acquisition of GF2 VHR imagery, it is expected to develop an automated pipeline for operational built-up area monitoring and timely update of building roof map over large areas.

People localization is a key building block in many applications. In this paper, we propose a deep learning based approach that significantly improves the localization accuracy and reduces the runtime of Wi-Fi based localization systems. Three variants of the deep learning approach are proposed, a sub-task architecture, an end-to-end architecture, and an architecture that incorporates prior knowledge. The performance of the three architectures under different conditions is evaluated and the significant improvement of the three architectures over existing approaches is demonstrated.

This paper presents a novel approach for indoor acoustic source localization using microphone arrays and based on a Convolutional Neural Network (CNN). The proposed solution is, to the best of our knowledge, the first published work in which the CNN is designed to directly estimate the three dimensional position of an acoustic source, using the raw audio signal as the input information avoiding the use of hand crafted audio features. Given the limited amount of available localization data, we propose in this paper a training strategy based on two steps. We first train our network using semi-synthetic data, generated from close talk speech recordings, and where we simulate the time delays and distortion suffered in the signal that propagates from the source to the array of microphones. We then fine tune this network using a small amount of real data. Our experimental results show that this strategy is able to produce networks that significantly improve existing localization methods based on SRP-PHAT strategies. In addition, our experiments show that our CNN method exhibits better resistance against varying gender of the speaker and different window sizes compared with the other methods.

Over the years, artificial intelligence (AI) is spreading its roots in different areas by utilizing the concept of making the computers learn and handle complex tasks that previously require substantial laborious tasks by human beings. With better accuracy and speed, AI is helping lawyers to streamline work processing. New legal AI software tools like Catalyst, Ross intelligence, and Matlab along with natural language processing provide effective quarrel resolution, better legal clearness, and superior admittance to justice and fresh challenges to conventional law firms providing legal services using leveraged cohort correlate model. This paper discusses current applications of legal AI and suggests deep learning and machine learning techniques that can be applied in future to simplify the cumbersome legal tasks.

Tables in the document image are one of the most important entities since they contain crucial information. Therefore, accurate table detection can significantly improve information extraction from tables. In this work, we present a novel end-to-end trainable pipeline, HybridTabNet, for table detection in scanned document images. Our two-stage table detector uses the ResNeXt-101 backbone for feature extraction and Hybrid Task Cascade (HTC) to localize the tables in scanned document images. Moreover, we replace conventional convolutions with deformable convolutions in the backbone network. This enables our network to detect tables of arbitrary layouts precisely. We evaluate our approach comprehensively on ICDAR-13, ICDAR-17 POD, ICDAR-19, TableBank, Marmot, and UNLV. Apart from the ICDAR-17 POD dataset, our proposed HybridTabNet outperforms earlier state-of-the-art results without depending on pre and post-processing steps. Furthermore, to investigate how the proposed method generalizes unseen data, we conduct an exhaustive leave-one-out-evaluation. In comparison to prior state-of-the-art results, our method reduces the relative error by 27.57% on ICDAR-2019-TrackA-Modern, 42.64% on TableBank (Latex), 41.33% on TableBank (Word), 55.73% on TableBank (Latex + Word), 10% on Marmot, and 9.67% on UNLV dataset. The achieved results reflect the superior performance of the proposed method.

This paper presents the development of a Generative Adversarial Network (GAN) for the generation of synthetic dental panoramic radiographs to address the scarcity of data in dental research and education. A Deep Convolutional GAN (DCGAN) with Wasserstein Loss and Gradient Penalty (WGAN-GP) was trained on a dataset of 2322 radiographs of varying quality. The focus for this study was on the dentoalveolar part of the radiographs; other structures were cropped out. Significant data cleaning and preprocessing was conducted to standardize input formats while maintaining anatomical variability. Four candidate models were identified by varying the critic iterations, number of features and the use of denoising prior to training. To assess the quality of the generated images, a clinical expert evaluated generated synthetic radiographs using a ranking system based on visibility and realism from 1 (Very Poor) to 5 (Excellent). It was found that most generated radiographs showed moderate depictions of dentoalveolar anatomical structures, although they were considerably impaired by artifacts. After averaging evaluation scores, a trade-off was observed between the model trained on non-denoised data, which showed the highest subjective quality for finer structures such as the Mandibular Canal and Trabecular Bone, and one of the models trained on denoised data, which offered better overall image quality, especially for Clarity & Sharpness, and Overall Realism. The outcome serves as a foundation for further research into GAN architectures for dental applications. In the era of information explosion in e-commerce, users face an overload problem. Recommender systems alleviate this by filtering target products based on user preferences. Collaborative Filtering (CF) is a popular method but struggles with high-quality recommendations due to data sparsity. Utilizing review texts to capture user preferences has improved CF recommendations. This paper proposes a deep learning-based recommendation framework leveraging bidirectional gated recurrent units (Bi-GRUs) and an attention-based Recurrent Neural Networks (RNN) structure. This framework addresses insufficient user rating data by utilizing user reviews to infer preferences. Experimental results on three datasets show that the proposed Bi-GRUCF model outperforms other state-of-the-art methods, achieving a 55.4% improvement in Mean Absolute Error (MAE) over traditional methods and a 77.8% improvement over other deep learning approaches. This demonstrates the framework's superior recommendation quality, particularly in sparse data scenarios.

Background/Objectives: Calculating the radiation dose from CT in 18F-PET/CT examinations poses a significant challenge. The objective of this study is to develop a deep learning-based automated program that standardizes the measurement of radiation doses. Methods: The Torso CT was segmented into six distinct regions using TotalSegmentator. An automated program was employed to extract the necessary information and calculate the effective dose (ED) of PET/CT. The accuracy of our automated program was verified by comparing the EDs calculated by the program with those determined by nuclear medicine physician (n=30). Additionally, we compared the EDs obtained from an older PET/CT scanner with those from a newer PET/CT scanner (n=42). Results: The CT ED calculated by the automated program was not significantly different from that calculated by the nuclear medicine physician (3.67 ± 0.61 mSv and 3.62 ± 0.60 mSv, respectively, p = 0.7623). Similarly, the total ED showed no significant difference between the two calculation methods (8.10 ± 1.40 mSv and 8.05 ± 1.39 mSv, respectively, p = 0.8957). A very strong correlation was observed in both CT ED and total ED between the two measurements (r2 = 0.9981 and 0.9996, respectively). When comparing the older and newer PET/CT scanners, the CT ED was not significantly different. However, the PET ED was significantly lower in the newer scanner than in the older scanner (4.39 ± 0.91 mSv and 6.00 ± 1.17 mSv, respectively, p < 0.0001). Consequently, the total ED was significantly lower in the newer scanner than in the older scanner (8.22 ± 1.53 mSv and 9.65 ± 1.34 mSv, respectively, p < 0.0001). Conclusions: We successfully developed a deep learning-based automated program that calculates the ED of torso 18F-PET/CT, thereby eliminating inter-operator variability.

The use of DL algorithms in the domain of DM for AVs has garnered significant attention in the literature in the last years, showcasing considerable potential. Nevertheless, most of the solutions proposed by the scientific community encounter difficulties in real-world applications. This paper aims to provide a realistic implementation of a hybrid DM module in an AD stack, integrating the learning capabilities from the experience of DRL algorithms and the reliability of classical methodologies. This work encompasses the implementation of concatenated scenarios in simulated environments, and the integration of AD modules. Specifically, the authors address the DM problem by employing a POMDP formulation and offer a solution through the use of DRL algorithms. Furthermore, an additional control module to execute the decisions in a safe and comfortable way through a hybrid architecture is presented. The proposed architecture is validated in the CARLA simulator by navigating through multiple concatenated scenarios, outperforming the CARLA Autopilot in terms of completion time, while ensuring both safety and comfort.

The development of new materials for the controlled release of molecules represents a topic of primary importance in medicine as well as in food science. Herein, three eutectic systems respectively composed by choline chloride and ethylene glycol (1:2 molar ratio), methyltriphenylphosphonium bromide and ethylene glycol (molar ratio 1:5), and choline chloride and glycerol (molar ratio 1:1.5) were tested as materials for the controlled release of an essential oil derived from citrus lemon leaves.

Cervical cancer (CC) remains a significant health issue, especially in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs). While Pap smears are the standard screening method, they have limitations like low sensitivity and subjective interpretation. Liquid-based cytology (LBC) offers improvements but still relies on manual analysis. This study explored the potential of deep learning (DL) for automated cervical cell classification using both Pap smears and LBC samples. A novel image segmentation algorithm was employed to extract single-cell patches for training a ResNet-50 model.The model trained on LBC images achieved remarkably high sensitivity (0.998), specificity (0.997), and accuracy (0.997), outperforming previous CNN models. However, the Pap smear dataset model achieved significantly lower performance (0.694 sensitivity, 0.838 specificity, 0.834 accuracy). This suggests that noisy and poor cell definition in Pap smears pose challenges for automated classification, whereas LBC provides better classifiable cells patches. These findings demonstrate the potential of AI-powered cervical cell classification for improving CC screening, particularly with LBC. The high accuracy and efficiency of DL models combined with effective segmentation can contribute to earlier detection and more timely intervention. Future research should focus on implementing explainable AI models to increase clinician trust and facilitate the adoption of AI-assisted CC screening in LMICs.

This study presents the Bayesian-Optimized Attentive Neural Network (BOANN), a novel approach enhancing image classification performance by integrating Bayesian optimization with channel and spatial attention mechanisms. Traditional image classification struggles with the extensive data in today's big data era. Bayesian optimization has been integrated into neural networks in recent years to enhance model generalization, while channel and spatial attention mechanisms improve feature extraction capabilities. This paper introduces a model combining Bayesian optimization with these attention mechanisms to boost image classification performance. Bayesian optimization optimizes hyperparameter selection, accelerating model convergence and accuracy; the attention mechanisms augment feature extraction. Compared to traditional deep learning models, our model utilizes attention mechanisms for initial feature extraction, followed by a Bayesian-optimized neural network. On the CIFAR-100 dataset, our model outperforms classical models in metrics such as accuracy, loss, precision, recall, and F1 score, achieving an accuracy of 77.6%. These technologies have potential for broader application in image classification and other computer vision domains.

White blood cells are crucial for immune defense in the human body, and fluctuations in their levels can lead to severe health issues. This research introduces a system designed for the localization and classification of white blood cells. The dataset utilized comprises two segments: one for localization consisting of 364 annotated images, and another for classification with 12,444 labeled images. The purpose of this study is to develop and evaluate a robust system for the accurate localization and classification of white blood cells using deep learning techniques. The study explores two localization methods—a traditional technique and a deep learning-based approach—and evaluates five deep learning architectures for classification, including three pretrained and two custom models. Upon testing these models on the dataset, the study identifies and evaluates the most effective approach. The localization process achieved an average Intersection over Union (IoU) of 71%, and the classification process reached an accuracy of 92%. The robustness of the model was further assessed by introducing different types of noise to test its resilience. The performance of this system demonstrates high accuracy and resilience to noise, which can be attributed to the use of a large dataset, our developed architectures, and our proposed methodology.

Approximate unlearning is an emerging field in machine learning that addresses the challenge of efficiently removing specific data points from models without the need for full retraining. In the financial sector, where models are built on sensitive customer data and market information, the ability to unlearn data is crucial for meeting privacy regulations like GDPR and ensuring model adaptability in real-time environments. This paper explores the categorization of approximate unlearning into two main approaches: data-driven approximation and model-driven approximation. Data-driven approximation focuses on selectively retraining parts of the dataset to simulate the removal of data, while model-driven approximation adjusts the model’s internal parameters to nullify the influence of unwanted data points. Both methods offer computational and memory-efficient ways to balance the need for privacy compliance with the performance demands of financial models. The paper discusses practical applications in algorithmic trading, fraud detection, and risk assessment, and highlights the challenges associated with each approach. Through case studies and literature references, we demonstrate how approximate unlearning can be applied to maintain system efficiency, data privacy, and regulatory compliance in the financial domain. This research provides a roadmap for future developments in approximate unlearning, particularly in the context of real-time financial systems and federated learning environments.

Falls are a major public health problem among older adults, therefore predicting the risk of having falls in the near future is of great importance for health and social systems worldwide. Nowadays, prospective fall risk assessment relies on clinical and functional mobility assessment tools, such as the Timed Up and Go (TUG) test. Recently, wearable inertial measurement unit (IMU) sensors measurements have been proposed for fall detection. We hypothesize that the IMU readings captured during TUG test realizations can provide prospective fall risk prediction. In this study, analysis by deep learning convolutional neural networks (CNN) and recurrent neural networks (RNN) were used for fall prediction based on features extracted from IMU data acquired during TUG test realizations. Data is obtained from a cohort of 106 older adults wear-ing a wireless inertial sensor with a sampling frequency of 100 Hz while performing the TUG test. Prospective fall incidence was obtained in a six-month follow-up period and used as the ground truth for the supervised training and validations of the deep learning and competing machine learning approaches. Further data collection could lead to potential fall risk biomarker. A repeated hold out cross-validation process using 75 subjects for training and 31 subjects for testing was carried out. Best results were achieved by a bidirectional long short-term memory (BLSTM), obtaining an accuracy of 0.83 and AUC of 0.73 with good sensitivity and specificity values.

The last wave of Artificial Intelligence is dedicating particular emphasis to the line of explainability research. The potential of Explainable Artificial Intelligence (XAI) in producing trustworthy computer-aided-diagnosis systems and its usage for knowledge discovery are collecting interest in the Medical Imaging (MI) community to support the diagnostic process and the discovery of image biomarkers. Most of the existing XAI applications in MI were focused on interpreting the predictions returned by deep neural networks, typically including attribution techniques with saliency map approaches and other feature visualization methods. However, these are often criticized for providing incorrect and incomplete representations of the black-box models’ behaviour. This raises the attention in proposing models intentionally designed to be self-explanatory. In particular, part-prototype (PP) models are interpretable-by-design computer vision (CV) models that base their decision process in learning and identifying representative prototypical parts from the input images, and they are collecting increasing interest and results in MI applications. This narrative review provides a summary of existing PP networks, their application in MI analysis and current challenges.

In the rapidly evolving landscape of cybersecurity, Intrusion Detection Systems (IDS) play a critical role in safeguarding networks and systems from unauthorized access and malicious activities. Traditional IDS approaches, relying heavily on predefined rules and signature-based detection, often struggle to keep pace with the dynamic nature of modern cyber threats. Deep learning, with its ability to automatically learn complex patterns and representations from large datasets, offers a promising solution to this challenge. This paper explores the application of deep learning techniques in enhancing the effectiveness and accuracy of IDS. By leveraging advanced neural network architectures such as convolutional neural networks (CNNs), recurrent neural networks (RNNs), and autoencoders, deep learning-based IDS can detect both known and unknown (zero-day) attacks with higher precision. We discuss the advantages of deep learning in IDS, including its capability to handle large-scale data, adaptability to evolving threats, and reduced dependency on human intervention. Furthermore, this paper reviews recent advancements in deep learning for IDS, highlights the challenges associated with their implementation, and suggests future directions for research to overcome these hurdles. The integration of deep learning into IDS frameworks represents a significant step forward in the development of intelligent and autonomous cybersecurity systems.

This study investigates the capabilities of high-resolution Sentinel-2 observations and deep learning (DL) segmentation models, specifically convolutional neural networks (CNNs), for accurate mapping of small and fragmented agricultural burn areas in Punjab, India. Initially, the model was trained using ICNF burn area data from Portugal to capture large fire and burn area delineation, achieving moderate accuracy. Subsequent fine-tuning using annotated data from Punjab improved the model’s ability to detect small burn patches, demonstrating higher accuracy and precision than the baseline Normalised Burn Ratio (NBR) Index method. On-ground validation using buffer zone analysis and crop field images confirms the DL approach effectiveness. Cloud interference and temporal gaps in satellite data posed some challenges. Despite these limitations, the study highlights the methodological advancements and potential of using DL models for small burn area detection in agricultural settings. The model achieved overall testing accuracy of 0.64 in Dice score assessment. This report presents a promising approach for improved mapping of the burn area, which might engender better estimation of emissions and the management practices in regions with little available ground truth data.

Artificial intelligence has garnered significant attention in recent years as a rapidly advancing field of computer technology. With the continual advancement of computer hardware, deep learning has made breakthrough developments within the realm of artificial intelligence. Over the past few years, applying deep learning architecture in medicine and Industrial anomaly inspection has significantly contributed to solving numerous challenges related to efficiency and accuracy. Despite excellent results in radiological, pathological, endoscopic, ultrasonic, and biochemical examinations, this paper utilizes deep learning combined with image processing to identify spinal canal and vertebral foramen dimensions. In existing research, technologies such as corrosion and expansion in magnetic resonance image (MRI) processing have also strengthening the accuracy of results. Indicators such as area and Intersection over Union (IoU)are also provided for assessment. Among them, the mean average precision (mAP), for identifying intervertebral foramen (IVF) and intervertebral disc (IVD) through YOLOv4 is 95.6%. Resnet50 mixing U-Net was employed to identify the spinal canal and intervertebral foramen and achieved IoU scores of 79.11% and 80.89%.

Late-onset Alzheimer’s disease (LOAD) is a dementia category disease that starts after the age of 65. Progressive problems in thinking, behaviour, learning etc. are its characteristics. Due to its progressive nature, early diagnosis is crucial. A complex pathway mechanism with different risk factors is involved in LOAD progression. A comprehensive study is done on factors causing LOAD, biomarkers used for diagnosis in clinical and preclinical stage of the disease, ML (Machine Learning) techniques to identify disease stage. We reviewed research papers on clinical and preclinical diagnosis of LOAD using ML techniques from biomarker data: MRI, PET image, MMSE, Genome / Gene expression, DNA / RNA binding sites with protein, Epigenetic expression /DNA, methylation, Speech and text. We have listed improvement scope after finding the gaps and scope of using Generative AI and SMOTE (Synthetic Minority Oversampling Technique) for data augmentation. At the end, we have elaborated current use of DL (Deep Learning) and CNN (‘Convolution Neural Network’) in Alzheimer’s disease (AD) diagnosis.

Unmanned aerial vehicle UAV has become an important tool for emergency communication. When disaster happens, the roads in the disaster area always are seriously damaged, and theground infrastructure communication facilities are damaged. Under emergency conditions, UAV can go into key areas as communication nodes to provide communication services for users in the area.But it's difficult for UAV to cover the entire disaster area and the efficient rescue time will be delayed. Therefore, how to make the UAV accurately perceive the regional situation and deployed in the right position is worth studying. In this paper, a virtual simulation environment is established reasonably and deep reinforcement learning algorithm is used to train UAV agents. At the same time, a series of problems such as sparse reward and long training time are still not solved in the development of reinforcement learning algorithms,and the reward function is designed to improve training efficiency. First of all, we set a specific mountain emergency communication scenario, and combined with the specific application of the UAV to carry out virtual simulation, and build a virtual environment. Furthermore, an additional shaped reward function is designed to address the sparse reward problem. Through the improvement of deep Q-learning network DQN algorithm and the reward design based on potential function, the final evaluation index is improved, and the effectiveness of the algorithm is verified. The experimental results demonstrate our work can effectively shorten the training time and increase convergencerate.

Aim: Deep brain stimulation (DBS) involves implanting electrodes in specific brain areas. High-frequency Stimulation (HFS) and low-frequency Stimulation (LFS) target motor and non-motor symptoms differently. DBS is crucial in Parkinson's disease treatment for managing medication-resistant symptoms and improving quality of life. This review aims to evaluate the differential impact of high-frequency and low-frequency deep brain stimulation (DBS) on motor symptoms in Parkinson's disease (PD) patients. This systematic review adheres to PRISMA guidelines and focuses on clinical studies involving human subjects. Methods: Systematic search in electronic databases (PubMed, Google Scholar, Science Direct, Cochrane Collaboration Database of Randomized Trials) was performed to identify randomized controlled trials (RCTs) up to 13th July 2024. Results: Among 126 pooled patients from 8 RCTs, it was found that LFS significantly improved gait stability, swallowing, and verbal fluency with minimal adverse effects. Conversely, HFS was effective in reducing rigidity and tremor but was associated with potential side effects such as gait and speech impairment. Conclusion: The review highlights the nuanced effects of STN-DBS frequencies in Parkinson's treatment, suggesting high-frequency improves rigidity and tremor but may cause side effects, while low-frequency enhances gait stability and speech, necessitating further research for optimized, patient-specific therapies.

In recent years, the global energy sector has seen significant transformation, particularly in Europe, with a notable increase in intermittent renewable energy integration. Italy and the European Union (EU) have been among the leaders in this transition, with renewables playing a substantial role in electricity generation as of mid-2020s. The adoption of Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) has become crucial for enhancing grid efficiency, sustainability, and reliability by addressing the intermittent renewable sources. This paper investigates the feasibility and economic viability of batteries into wholesale electricity markets as per EU regulation, focusing on the dynamics of very different markets, namely the Day-Ahead Market (DAM) based on system marginal price and the Cross-Border Intra-day Market (XBID) based on continuous trading. A novel model is proposed to enhance BESS operations, leveraging price arbitrage strategies based on zonal price predictions, levelized cost of storage (LCOS), and uncertain bid acceptance in continuous trading. Machine learning and deep learning techniques are applied for price forecasting and bid acceptance prediction, respectively. The study finds that data-driven techniques outperform reference models in price forecasting and bid acceptance prediction (+7-14% accuracy). Regarding market dynamics, the study reveals a higher competitiveness of the continuous market compared to the DAM, particularly with increased risk factor in bids leading to higher profits. This research provides insights into compatibility between continuous markets and BESS, showing substantial improvements in economic profitability and the correlation between risk and profits in the bidding strategy (+9 M€ yearly revenues are obtained with a strategic behavior that reduces by 60% awarded energy).

Previous studies conducted on the eye blink consider the availability of hardware devices high in the budget, high Precision, and low light expo-sure, unlike our study, which uses low-budget devices as simple as a webcam and more versatile usable techniques, incredibly both dim and high light to name a few. This study offers the observational approach via ResNet101v2, VGG-19, and Convolution Neural Network (CNN) architectures. Outperforming both VGG-19 and CNN in this study, ResNet101v2 achieves an impressive accuracy of 98.2%. In contemporary times, deep learning in AI is taking an advanced form. The study of Internet of Vehicle (IoV) based on Fog Computing (FC) and Artificial Intelligent (AI) has attracted more and more attention. However, there are still many problems require to investigate such as time-critical, scalability, load-balancing, energy consumption, and so on. Focusing on these problems, we proposed an AI-based Vehicle-to-Everything (V2X) model for tasks and resource offloading model for IoVs network, which ensures reliable low-latency communication efficient tasks offloading in IoV network by using Software Defined Vehicular based FC (SDV-F) architecture. To fit to time-critical data transmission task distribution, the proposed model reduces unnecessary task allocation at the fog computing layer by proposing an AI-based task-allocation algorithm in IoV layer to implement task allocation of each vehicle. By applying AI technologies of Reinforcement Learning (RL), Markov decision process, and Deep Learning (DL), the proposed model intelligently makes decision on maximizing resource utilization at the fog layer, and minimizing the average end-to-end delay of time-critical IoV applications. The experiment demonstrates the proposed model can efficiently distribute the fog layer tasks while minimizing the delay.

In this study, we explored the application of deep learning techniques for credit card fraud detection, aiming to improve the performance and reliability of anomaly detection methods in financial transactions. We first utilized the Isolation Forest algorithm, achieving a detection accuracy of 26% for the top 1000 transactions. Subsequently, we experimented with the Autoencoder algorithm, an unsupervised deep neural network model, which enhanced the detection accuracy to 33.6% in the best case despite some fluctuations. The results demonstrate deep learning models' strong feature extraction capability and adaptability, highlighting their potential to surpass traditional methods. However, the high imbalance in the dataset, with only 0.17% of transactions being fraudulent, poses a significant challenge. This study underscores the necessity for further experimentation and optimization of network structures and hyperparameters to achieve more stable and efficient fraud detection. The findings provide valuable insights and reference points for future research in financial fraud detection using deep learning methodologies.

This article comprehensively explores multiple aspects of cryptocurrencies and their price forecasting. Firstly, the article introduces the definition of cryptocurrency and its development process on a global scale, especially focusing on the launch of Facebook Libra and China's central bank digital currency, highlighting the importance and influence of digital currency in the global financial market. Subsequently, the article analyzes the advantages of digital currencies over traditional currencies, including improving economic transaction efficiency, reducing transaction costs and enhancing transaction transparency. Meanwhile, the article also explores the challenges and risks potentially brought by the development of digital currencies, such as regulatory uncertainty and market volatility. In this context, the article raises the importance of cryptocurrency price forecasting and introduces the forecasting models and techniques commonly used today. Finally, through specific experimental analysis, the effectiveness of using the deep learning model CNN-LSTM to predict the price of Bitcoin is demonstrated, and the directions of future research and optimization strategy are proposed. In summary, this paper comprehensively presents the research status and prospects of cryptocurrency and its price prediction field through systematic introduction and analysis.

Global climate change primarily affects the spatiotemporal variation of physical quantities such as relative humidity, atmospheric pressure, ambient temperature, and notably, precipitation levels. Accurate precipitation predictions remain elusive, necessitating tools for detailed spatiotemporal analysis to better understand climate impacts on the environment, agriculture, and society. This study compares three learning models: ARIMA (Autoregressive Integrated Moving Average), RF-R (Random Forest Regression), and LSTM-NN (Long Short-Term Memory Neural Network), utilizing monthly precipitation data (in millimeters) from 757 locations in Boyacá, Colombia. The LSTM-NN model outperformed others, precisely replicating precipitation observations in both training and testing datasets, significantly reducing the root mean square error (RMSE) with average monthly deviations of approximately 19 mm per location. Evaluation metrics (RMSE, MAE, R², MSE) underscore the LSTM model’s robustness and accuracy in capturing precipitation patterns. Consequently, the LSTM model was chosen to predict precipitation over a 16-month period starting from August 2023, offering a reliable tool for future meteorological forecasting and planning in the region.

Investigation of functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) data with machine learning (ML) techniques, including also deep learning (DL) methods, have been widely used to study Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). This disorder is characterized by symptoms that affect the individual’s behavioral aspects and social relationships. Early diagnosis is crucial for intervention, but the complexity of ASD poses challenges for treatment development. This study compares traditional ML techniques with deep learning (DL) methods in the analysis of functional connectivity measures obtained from the time series of multicentric ABIDE dataset. Specifically, Support Vector Machines (SVM) classifiers, with both linear and Radial Basis Function (RBF) kernels, as well as eXtreme Gradient Boosting (XGBoost) classifiers, are compared against the TabNet classifier, which is a DL architecture customized for tabular data analysis and a Multi Layer Perceptron (MLP). The findings suggest that DL classifiers may not be optimal for the type of data analyzed, as their performance trails behind that of standard classifiers. SVMs achieve performances, in terms of AUC, around 75%, compared to the best TabNet and MLP results, which are 65% and 71%, respectively. Additionally, this work investigates the brain regions that contribute most to the classification task, which are found to be those primarily responsible for sensory and spatial perception, as well as attention modulation, known to be altered in ASD.

Accurate prostate volume estimation is crucial for effective prostate disease management. Ultrasound (US) imaging, particularly transrectal ultrasound, offers a cost-effective and rapid assessment. However, US images often suffer from artifacts and poor contrast, making prostate volume estimation challenging. This review explores recent advancements in deep learning (DL) techniques for automatic prostate segmentation in US images as a primary step for prostate volume estimation. We examine various DL architectures, including traditional U-Net modifications and innovative designs incorporating residual connections, multi-directional image data, and attention mechanisms. Additionally, we discuss pre-processing methods to enhance image quality, the integration of shape information, and strategies to improve the consistency and robustness of DL models. The effectiveness of these techniques is evaluated through metrics such as Dice Similarity Coefficient, Jaccard Index, and Hausdorff Distance. The review highlights the potential of DL in improving prostate volume estimation accuracy and reducing clinical workload, while also identifying areas for future research to enhance model performance and generalizability.

The leaves of Nicotiana glauca (Solanaceae) plant, are known for its major cause of health concern. This study investigated the antioxidant activity and polyphenols composition of aerial parts of N.glauca collected from its wild habitat in Jordan, using Methanol-Conventional (MC) and deep eutectic solvents (DESs) extraction methods in addition to nicotine content determination using UHPLC. The results have shown that the MC extract contains fewer total phenols and flavonoid content than the DES extract at ratio of 90% (0.1194 ±0.009 and 0.311± 0.020 mg/mL equivalent to gallic acid) and (0.01084±0.005 and 0.928 ± 0.09 mg/mL equivalent to rutin), respectively. Moreover, the study showed that the MC extract contains 635.07 ppm nicotine compared to the DES extraction method, which contains 1194.91 ppm. Both the MC and the DES extracts exhibited weak antioxidant activities with the highest was 33%inhibition equivalent to ascorbic acid was found for DES at (90%) ratio. The UHPLC-MS/MS analysis revealed the presence of variations in the detected compounds between the two extraction methods used. This study found that en-vironmentally friendly DES extraction of N. glauca produced higher phenol and flavonoid content than MC method, highlighting green chemistry methods' superior efficiency and environmental benefits for extracting valuable phytoconstituents.

Ship detection from synthetic aperture radar (SAR) imagery is crucial for various fields in real-world applications. Numerous deep learning-based detectors have been investigated for SAR ship detection, which require a substantial amount of labeled data for training. However, SAR data annotation is time-consuming and demands specialized expertise, resulting in that deep learning-based SAR ship detectors struggle due to a lack of annotations. With limited labeled data, semi-supervised learning is a popular approach for boosting detection performance by excavating valuable information from unlabeled data. In this paper, a semi-supervised SAR ship detection network is proposed, termed as Multi-Teacher Dempster-Shafer Evidence Fusion Net-work (MTDSEFN). The MTDSEFN is an enhanced framework based on the basic teacher-student skeleton frame, comprising two branches: the Teacher Group (TG) and the Agency Teacher (AT). The TG utilizes multiple teachers to generate pseudo-labels for different augmentation versions of unlabeled samples, which are then refined to obtain high-quality pseudo-labels by using Dempster-Shafer (D-S) fusion. The AT not only serves to deliver weights of its own teacher to the TG at the end of each epoch, but also updates its own weights after each iteration, enabling the model to effectively learn rich information from unlabeled data. The combination of TG and AT guarantees both reliable pseudo-label generation and learning comprehensive diversity information from numerous unlabeled samples. Extensive experiments were performed on two public SAR ship datasets, and the results demonstrated the effectiveness and superiority of the proposed approach.

Rice has become the second major food among rural people. It is one of the most nutrient and low-cost food available in Asia. Rice is composed of two major subspecies as Japonica and Indica and it belongs to the Poaceae family. The World Bank predicts that rice demand will grow 51% faster than population growth in 2025. It is high time to develop a model which predicts the type of infected paddy leaf and avoids the loss of grains. In this paper, the proposed hybrid CNN model, three CNN networks with different layer properties are trained parallel. The extracted feature from these CNN networks is combined to provide the classification of the type of infected leaf. Fieldwork was carried and about 340 samples are collected from five different types of classes. The proposed hybrid model was tested with both the fieldwork dataset and also with an available dataset on the internet. The experimental results show that the proposed model outperforms the other CNN network and yields an accuracy value of 98%, a precision value of 95%, and a misclassification rate of 4% respectively.

Recently, a significant number of tools for detecting dangerous objects have been developed. Unfortunately, the performance offered by them is overestimated due to the poor quality of the datasets used (insufficiently numerous, contain items not strictly related to dangerous objects, insufficient range of presentation conditions). To fill in a gap in this area we have built an extensive dataset dedicated to detecting the objects most often used in various acts of breaching public security (baseball bat, gun, knife, machete, rifle). This collection contains images presenting the detected objects with different quality and under different environmental conditions. We believe that the results obtained from it are more reliable and give a better idea of the detection accuracy that can be achieved under real conditions. We used the Faster R-CNN with different backbone networks in the study. The best results were obtained for the ResNet152 backbone. The mAP value was 85%, while the AP level ranged from 80% to 91%, depending on the item detected. An average real-time detection speed was 11-13 FPS. Both the accuracy and speed of the Faster R-CNN model allow it to be recommended for use in public security monitoring systems aimed at detecting potentially dangerous objects.

Accurately predicting drug-drug interactions (DDIs) is crucial for preventing adverse drug events in clinical settings. However, existing methodologies often rely on complex models built from diverse data sources, posing challenges in computational drug discovery. To address the need for precise computational methods in predicting unknown DDIs, this study introduces a novel Deep Neural Network (DNN)-based approach. By leveraging a wide range of drug-related information, including substructure, targets, side effects, pathways, and indications, our method calculates multiple drug similarities. These similarities are then synthesized using a nonlinear fusion method to extract high-level features. Subsequently, a tailored neural network is deployed for interaction prediction. Comparative evaluation against three prominent machine learning classifiers—Extreme Gradient Boosting (XGBoost), Adaptive Gradient Boosting (AdaBoost), and Light Gradient-Boosting Machine (LGBM)—using three benchmark datasets demonstrates the superior performance of DNN. It achieves outstanding accuracy, precision, recall, and F1-score metrics, all reaching 94.6% in cross-validation. Additionally, case studies involving numerous drug pairs confirm the reliability of DNN in accurately predicting unknown DDIs. These findings underscore DNN as a potent and reliable method for DDI prediction, with promising implications for drug discovery and healthcare applications.

Pedestrian trajectories are crucial for self-driving cars to plan their paths effectively. The sensors implanted in these self-driving vehicles, despite being state-of-the-art ones, often face inaccuracies in the perception of surrounding environments due to technical challenges for adverse weather conditions, interference from other vehicles sensors and electronic devices, and signal reception failure, leading to incompleteness in trajectory data. But for real-time decision making for autonomous driving, the trajectory imputation is no less crucial. Previous attempts to address this issue such as statistical inference and machine learning approaches have shown promise. Yet, the landscape of deep learning is rapidly evolving with new and more robust models emerging. In this research, we have proposed an encoder-decoder architecture, Human Trajectory Imputation Model, coined as HTIM, to tackle these challenges. This architecture aims to fill in the missing parts of pedestrian trajectories. The model has been evaluated using the Intersection drone inD dataset, containing trajectory data at suitable altitudes preserving naturalistic pedestrian behavior with varied dataset sizes. To assess the effectiveness of our model, we have utilized L1, MSE, Quantile and ADE loss. Our experiments have demonstrated that HTIM outperforms the majority of the state-of-the-art methods in this field, thus indicating its superior performance in imputing pedestrian trajectories.

Within environmental perception, automatic navigation and object detection, computer vision is a crucial and demanding field with many applications in modern industries, such as multi-target long-term visual tracking in automated production, defect detection, and driverless robotic vehicles with sensing ability. The performance of computer vision has greatly improved recently thanks to developments in deep learning algorithms and hardware computing capabilities, which has spawned the creation of a large number of related applications. This paper presents the results of a detailed review of over 50 papers published over the course of two decades (1999–2024), with a primary focus on the technical advancement of computer vision. To elucidate the foundational principles, an examination of typical visual algorithms based on traditional correlation filtering was initially conducted. Subsequently, a comprehensive overview of the most recent advancements in deep learning-based computer vision techniques was compiled. Furthermore, a comparative analysis between conventional and novel algorithms was undertaken to discuss the future trends and directions of computer vision. Lastly, the feasibility of employing visual SLAM (Simultaneous Localization and Mapping) algorithms in the context of autonomous vehicles with sensing capability was explored. Furthermore, we explored a thorough and efficient architecture for utilizing these techniques in autonomous robotic vehicles into unmanned green and low-carbon smart factories, underlining novel advances as well as potential prospects for future research.

Responsible, efficient, and environmentally conscious energy consumption practices are increasingly essential for ensuring the reliability of the modern electricity grid. This study focuses on leveraging time series analysis to improve forecasting accuracy, crucial for various application domains where real-world time series data often exhibit complex, non-linear patterns. Our approach advocates for utilizing Long Short Term Memory (LSTM) and Bidirectional LSTM (BiLSTM) models for precise time series forecasting. To ensure a fair evaluation, we compare the performance of our proposed approach with traditional neural networks, time-series forecasting methods, and conventional decline curves. Additionally, individual models based on LSTM, Bi-LSTM, and other machine learning methods are implemented for a comprehensive assessment. Experimental results consistently demonstrate that our proposed model outperforms all benchmarking methods in terms of mean absolute error (MAE) across most datasets. Addressing the imbalance between activations by consumer and prosumer groups, our predictions show superior performance compared to several traditional forecasting methods, such as the Autoregressive Integrated Moving Average model (ARIMA) and Seasonal Autoregressive Integrated Moving Average model (SARIMA). Specifically, the root mean square error (RMSE) of Bi-LSTM is 5.35%, 46.08%, and 50.6% lower than LSTM, ARIMA, and SARIMA, respectively, on the May test data.

Abstract: Introduction: Total knee arthroplasty (TKA) is a common orthopedic procedure driven by factors such as an aging population, rising obesity rates, and surgical advancements. Despite improved venous thromboembolism (VTE) prophylaxis, eradication remains challenging, necessitating personalized prevention strategies. This study aims to identify predictors of VTE following TKA. Methods: A retrospective analysis of the American College of Surgeons National Surgical Quality Improvement Program (ACS NSQIP) database (2016-2021) included 367,365 patients who underwent TKA (CPT code 27447). Univariate and multivariate analyses assessed preoperative factors associated with deep vein thrombosis (DVT) and pulmonary embolism (PE). Results: Significant associations were found between demographic and clinical variables and VTE prevalence. Notable predictors of DVT included female sex (OR=1.2, p=0.001), younger age (OR=1.2, p=0.001), Hispanic ethnicity (OR=1.2, p=0.026), and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) (OR=1.4, p=0.001). Independent functional status was a strong predictor of both DVT (OR=5.0, p=0.001) and PE (OR=0.53, p=0.033). Smoking (OR=0.7, p=0.001), COPD (OR=1.4, p=0.005), congestive heart failure (OR=2.1, p=0.001), and malignancy (OR=2.9, p=0.009) were significant predictors of PE. Conclusion: The study underscores the impact of demographic factors (gender, age, race) and comorbidities (COPD, CHF, malignancy) on VTE risk post-TKA. Preoperative mobilization status emerged as a critical indicator of thromboembolic risk. Unexpected findings regarding smoking and PE require further investigation. Overall, the study contributes to optimizing VTE prevention in TKA patients through tailored risk assessment and intervention strategies.

Generative artificial intelligence (GenAI) has been developing with many incredible achievements like ChatGPT and Bard. Deep generative model (DGM) is a branch of GenAI, which is preeminent in generating raster data such as image and sound due to strong points of deep neural network (DNN) in inference and recognition. The built-in inference mechanism of DNN, which simulates and aims to synaptic plasticity of human neuron network, fosters generation ability of DGM which produces surprised results with support of statistical flexibility. Two popular approaches in DGM are Variational Autoencoders (VAE) and Generative Adversarial Network (GAN). Both VAE and GAN have their own strong points although they share and imply underline theory of statistics as well as incredible complex via hidden layers of DNN when DNN becomes effective encoding/decoding functions without concrete specifications. In this research, VAE and GAN is unified into a consistent and consolidated model called Adversarial Variational Autoencoders (AVA) in which VAE and GAN complement each other, for instance, VAE is good at generator by encoding data via excellent ideology of Kullback-Leibler divergence and GAN is a significantly important method to assess reliability of data which is realistic or fake. In other words, AVA aims to improve accuracy of generative models, besides AVA extends function of simple generative models. In methodology this research focuses on combination of applied mathematical concepts and skillful techniques of computer programming in order to implement and solve complicated problems as simply as possible.

Our methodology directly analyzes textual data, with a particular focus on context-specific sentiment words within neural network models. This specificity ensures our sentiment analysis is both relevant and accurate in identifying trends in the stock market. We employ sophisticated mathematical modeling techniques to enhance both the precision and interpretability of our models. Through meticulous data handling and advanced machine learning methods, we leverage large datasets from Twitter and financial markets to examine the impact of social media sentiment on financial trends. We achieved an accuracy exceeding 75%, highlighting the effectiveness of our modeling approach, which we further refined into a convolutional neural network model. This achievement contributes valuable insights into sentiment analysis within the financial domain, thereby improving the overall clarity of forecasting in this field.

End-to-end learned image compression codecs have notably emerged in recent years. These codecs have demonstrated superiority over conventional methods, showcasing remarkable flexibility and adaptability across diverse data domains while supporting new distortion losses. Despite challenges such as computational complexity, learned image compression methods inherently align with learning-based data processing and analytic pipelines due to their well-suited internal representations. The concept of Video Coding for Machines has garnered significant attention from both academic researchers and industry practitioners. This concept reflects the growing need to integrate data compression with computer vision applications. In light of these developments, we present a comprehensive survey and review of lossy image compression methods. Additionally, we provide a concise overview of two prominent international standards, MPEG Video Coding for Machines and JPEG AI. These standards are designed to bridge the gap between data compression and computer vision, catering to practical industry use cases.

The value of artificial intelligence and machine learning applications for use in heritage research is increasingly appreciated [1]. In specific areas, notably remote sensing, data sets have increased in extent and resolution to the point that manual interpretation is problematic and availability of skilled interpreters to undertake such work is limited. Interpretation of geophysical data sets associated with prehistoric submerged landscapes is particularly challenging. Following the last glacial, sea levels rose 120 metres globally, and vast, habitable landscapes were lost to the sea. These landscapes were inaccessible until extensive remote sensing data sets were provided by the offshore energy sector. In this paper, we provide results of a research programme centred on AI applications using data from the southern North Sea. Here, an area of c.188,000 km2 of habitable terrestrial land was inundated between c. 20,000 BP and 7,0000 BP, along with the cultural heritage it contained [2]. As part of this project, machine learning tools were applied to detect and interpret features of archaeological significance from shallow seismic data. The output provides a proof-of-concept model demonstrating verifiable results and the potential for further, more complex leveraging of AI interpretation for the study of submarine palaeolandscapes. The predominance of English and Latin-based large language models (LLMs) has led to a notable deficit in native Arabic LLMs. This discrepancy is accentuated by the prevalent inclusion of English tokens in existing Arabic models, detracting from their efficacy in processing native Arabic's intricate morphology and syntax. Consequently, there is a theoretical and practical imperative for developing LLMs predominantly focused on Arabic linguistic elements. To address this gap, this paper proposes ArabianGPT, a series of transformer-based models within the ArabianLLM suite designed explicitly for Arabic. These models, including ArabianGPT-0.1B and ArabianGPT-0.3B, vary in size and complexity, aligning with the nuanced linguistic characteristics of Arabic. The AraNizer tokenizer, integral to these models, addresses the unique morphological aspects of Arabic script, ensuring more accurate text processing. Empirical results from fine-tuning the models on tasks like sentiment analysis and summarization demonstrate significant improvements. For sentiment analysis, the fine-tuned ArabianGPT-0.1B model achieved a remarkable accuracy of 95%, a substantial increase from the base model's 56%. Similarly, in summarization tasks, fine-tuned models showed enhanced F1 scores, indicating improved precision and recall in generating concise summaries. Comparative analysis of fine-tuned ArabianGPT models against their base versions across various benchmarks reveals nuanced differences in performance, with fine-tuning positively impacting specific tasks like question answering and summarization. These findings underscore the efficacy of fine-tuning in aligning ArabianGPT models more closely with specific NLP tasks, highlighting the potential of tailored transformer architectures in advancing Arabic NLP.

The use of credit cards and online banking is expanding exponentially. As more individuals use debit cards, credit cards, and internet banking, the likelihood of falling victim to various forms of fraud also rises. Due to ignorance, credit card company customers have provided their card details, personal information, and one-time password to an unknown bogus caller on several occasions in the recent past. One of the biggest issues facing financial institutions and customers alike is credit card theft. It may result in large financial losses and harm to the financial institution's image. While there are several ways to identify credit card fraud, one of the best is machine learning.By using past data, machine learning algorithms may be trained to recognize trends and abnormalities that point to fraud. The state-of-the-art in machine learning for credit card fraud detection is reviewed in this study. Numerous research on the same subject have been conducted in the past with a variety of well-known machine-learning techniques. However, with a grasp of the notion of hybrid machine learning, we will now examine how well hybrid machine learning performs on the same problem statement.

Recent advances in artificial intelligence combined with behavioral sciences have led to the development of cutting-edge tools for recognizing human emotions based on text, video, audio, and physiological data. However, these data sources are expensive, intrusive, and regulated, unlike plants which have been shown to be sensitive to human steps and sounds. A methodology is proposed to use plants as human emotion detectors. Electrical signals from plants are tracked and labeled based on video data. Labeled data are then used for classification. MLP, biLSTM, MFCC-CNN, MFCC-ResNet, and additionally, Random Forests, 1-Dimensional CNN, and biLSTM without windowing models are set using a grid search algorithm with cross-validation. Finally, best-parameterized models are trained and used with the test set for classification. The performance of this methodology is measured with a case study with 54 participants, who were watching an emotionally charged video, as ground truth their facial emotions were simultaneously measured using face emotion analysis. The Random Forest model shows the best performance, particularly in recognizing high-arousal emotions, achieving an overall weighted accuracy of 55.2% and demonstrating high weighted recall in emotions such as fear 61.0% and happiness 60.4%. The MFCC-ResNet model offers decently balanced results, with Accuracy(MFCC-ResNet)=0.318 and Recall (MFCC-ResNet)=0.324. With the MFCC-ResNet model fear and anger are recognized with 75% and 50% recall respectively. Thus, using plants as an emotion recognition tool seems worth investigating, addressing both cost and privacy concerns.

In our increasingly urbanized world, precise and up-to-date maps of human settlements are essential for sustainable urban development policies. The availability of open-access Sentinel-2 data from the Copernicus program presents an opportunity to create a comprehensive global map of human settlements, offering a detailed view of built areas on a large scale. This study estimates large-scale built-up fractions using encoder-decoder deep learning architectures like U-net, Res-U-net, and Attention-U-net in the large and complex urban area of Delhi, India. Openly available datasets like Open Street Map (OSM) and Microsoft building footprint datasets are used to derive built-up fractions at 10×10m resolution cells for over 34,000 km2. Our results show that Attention-U-net with the Huber loss function performs the best in different built-up densities (i.e., urban, semi-urban or rural) with an R2 score of 0.631, while Res-U-net and U-net obtained an R2 score of 0.623 and 0.612, respectively. The investigated networks significantly improve the accuracy over the latest Global Human Settlement Layer product (GHSL-S2), which uses a deep-CNN and reaches an R2 of 0.387 in our case study area. The result of this study yields a valuable spatial layer for examining the spatial distribution of human settlements across the entire spectrum from rural to urban areas.

Mapping building roof plane structures is an active research direction in urban-related studies, as understanding roof structure provides essential information for generating highly detailed 3D building models. Traditional deep learning models have been the main focus of most recent research endeavours aiming to extract pixel-based building roof plane areas from remote sensing imagery. However, significant challenges arise, such as delineating complex roof boundaries and invisible boundaries. Additionally, challenges during the post-processing phase, where pix-el-based building roof plane maps are vectorized, often result in polygons with irregular shapes. In order to address this issue, this study explores a state-of-the-art method for planar graph reconstruction applied to building roof plane extraction. We propose a framework for reconstructing regularized building roof plane structures using aerial imagery and cadastral information. Our framework employs a holistic edge classification architecture based on an attention-based neural network to detect corners and edges between them from aerial imagery. Our experiments focused on three distinct study areas characterized by different roof structure topologies: Stadsveld – 't Zwering neighbourhood and Oude Markt area, located in Enschede, The Netherlands, and the Lozenets district in Sofia, Bulgaria. The outcomes of our experiments revealed that a model trained with a combined dataset of two different study areas demonstrated superior performance, capable of delineating edges obscured by shadows or canopy. Our experiment in the Oude Markt area resulted in building roof plane delineation with an F-score value of 0.43 when the model trained on the combined dataset was used. In comparison, the model trained only on the Stadsveld – 't Zwering dataset achieved an F-score value of 0.37, and the model trained only on the Lozenets dataset achieved an F-score value of 0.32. The results from the developed approach are promising and can be used for 3D city modelling in different urban settings.

The implementation of neural networks (NN) on edge devices enables local processing of wireless data but faces challenges such as high computational complexity and memory requirements when deep neural networks (DNN) are used. Shallow neural networks customized for specific problems are more efficient, requiring fewer resources, and resulting in a lower latency solution. An additional benefit of the smaller network size is that it is suitable for real-time processing on edge devices. The main concern with shallow neural networks is their accuracy performance compared to DNNs. In this paper, we demonstrate that a customized adaptive activation function (AAF) can meet the accuracy of a DNN. We designed an efficient FPGA implementation for a customized segmented spline curve neural network (SSCNN) structure to replace the traditional fixed activation function with an AAF. We compared our SSCNN with different neural network structures such as real-valued time delay neural network (RVTDNN), augmented real-valued time delay neural network (ARVTDNN), and deep neural networks with different parameters. Our proposed SSCNN implementation uses 40% fewer hardware resources and no Block RAMS compared to the DNN with similar accuracy. We experimentally validate this computationally efficient and memory-saving FPGA implementation of SSCNN for digital predistortion of RF power amplifiers using the AMD/Xilinx RFSoC ZCU111. The implemented solution uses less than 3% of the available resources. The solution also enables an increase of the clock frequency to 221.12 MHz, allowing the transmission of wide bandwidth signals.

With the recent advances in Machine Learning (ML), several models have been successfully applied to financial and accounting data to predict the likelihood of companies’ bankruptcy. However, time series have received little attention in literature with a lack of studies on the application of Deep Learning sequence models as Recurrent Neural Networks (RNN) and the recent Attention-based models in general. In this research work, we investigated the application of Long Short Term Memory (LSTM) networks to exploit time series of accounting data for bankruptcy prediction. The main contributions of our work are the following: a) we have proposed a Multi-head LSTM that models each financial variable in a time window independently and compared it with a single-input LSTM and other traditional ML models. The Multi-head LSTM outperforms all the other models; b) We identify the optimal time series length for bankruptcy prediction to be equal to 4 years of accounting data; c) We made public the dataset we used for the experiments that include data from 8262 different public companies in the American stock market generated in the period between 1999-2018. Furthermore, we prove the efficacy of the Multi-head LSTM models in terms of lower false positives and better division of the two classes.

During deep-sea mining, the heavy metals pollutants can cause contamination in the marine environment. In this paper, the multiphasic coupling model is established to describe the heavy metal migration process during deep-sea mining, which takes the effects of convection-diffusion, adsorption-desorption and sedimentation-resuspension of heavy metals in the aquatic environment into full consideration. Due to the advantages of Lattice Boltzmann method, it is adopted to numerically solve the multiphasic coupling model and achieve the simulation for heavy metal migration process during deep-sea mining. In addition, taking Cadmium as an example, the concentration variations are discussed and analyzed in detail. Based on the established model and Lattice Boltzmann method, the concentration distribution of heavy metals can be accurately described to provide the reasonable bases for the evaluation of marine environmental protection.

This paper presents a customized adaptive cascaded deep learning (ACDL) model for the design and performance prediction of metasurface absorbers. A multi-resonant metasurface absorber structure is introduced, with 10 target-driven design parameters. The proposed deep learning model takes advantage of cascading several sub-deep neural network (DNN) layers with forward noise mitigation capability. The inherent appearance of sparse data is completely dealt with in this work by proposing a trained adaptive selection technique. On the basis of the findings, the prediction response is quite fast and accurate enough to retrieve the design parameters of the studied metasurface absorber and with two sized patches of 4000 and 7000 datasets. The training loss taken form the second DNN of our proposed model shows logarithmic mean squared errors of 0.039 and 0.033 when using Keras and the adaptive method, respectively, with a dataset split of 4000. On the contrary, for a dataset split of 7000, the errors are 0.049 with Keras and 0.045 with the adaptive method. On the other hand, the validation loss is evaluated using the mean square error method, which results in a loss with 4000 datasets split with the Keras method of 0.044, while it is 0.020 with the adaptive method. When extending the dataset to 7000, the validation loss with the keras splitting method is 0.0073, while it is improved, reaching 0.006 with the proposed adaptive method, and achieving a prediction accuracy of 94%. This proposed deep learning model can be deployed in the design process and synthesis of multi-resonant metasurface absorber structures. The proposed model shows its advantages of making the design process more efficient in sparse dataset handling, efficient approach in multi-resonance metasurface data pre-processing, less time consuming, and computationally valuable.

Background: Periprosthetic joint infection (PJI) following total hip and knee arthroplasty remains an extremely challenging and relatively high complication. This study aims to develop, validate and evaluate the use of machine learning (ML) algorithm to predict PJI in patients undergoing revision arthroplasties. Methods: A comprehensive review of patients undergoing hip or knee revision arthroplasty from 1 January 2015 to 31 March 2021 was conducted. Clinical data coming from preoperative patients history, laboratory analysis and demographic characteristics of patients were screened. Final data have been used to train a Logistic Regression model with the aim of predicting PJI preoperatively. Results: 1360 patients were enrolled, 1141 in the aseptic cohort and 219 in the infected cohort were included. ML demonstrated good discriminatory performance in predicting PJI in the selected patients (area under the curve 0.770 ± 0.006 in the training set and 0.720 ± 0.057 in the test set), and identified 3 significant predictors of PJI. Conclusion: ML algorithm trained using preoperative clinical data accurately predicted PJI. The incorporation of ML models into preoperative assessment of patients undergoing prosthetic revision procedures are useful in providing specific risk assessment to aid individualised counselling, shared decision making and presurgical optimization.

Tuning tensor program generation involves navigating a vast search space to find optimal program transformations and measurements for a program on target hardware. The complexity of this process is further amplified by the exponential combinations of transformations, especially in heterogeneous environments. This research addresses these challenges by introducing a novel approach that learns the joint neural network and hardware features space, facilitating knowledge transfer to new, unseen target hardware. A comprehensive analysis is conducted on the existing state-of-the-art dataset, TenSet, including a thorough examination of test split strategies and the proposal of methodologies for dataset pruning. Leveraging an attention-inspired technique, we tailor the tuning of tensor programs to embed both neural network and hardware-specific features. Notably, our approach substantially reduces the dataset size by up to 53% compared to the baseline without compromising Pairwise Comparison Accuracy (PCA). Furthermore, our proposed methodology demonstrates competitive or improved mean inference times with only 25%40% of the baseline tuning time across various networks and target hardware. The attention-based tuner can effectively utilize schedules learned from previous hardware program measurements to optimize tensor program tuning on previously unseen hardware, achieving a top-5 accuracy exceeding 90%. This research introduces a significant advancement in auto-tuning tensor program generation, addressing the complexities associated with heterogeneous environments and showcasing promising results regarding efficiency and accuracy.

Commercial buildings situated in hot and humid tropical climates rely significantly on cooling systems to maintain optimal occupant comfort. A well-accurate day-ahead load profile prediction plays a pivotal role in planning the energy requirements of cooling systems. Despite the pressing need for effective day-ahead cooling load predictions, current methodologies have not fully harnessed the potential of advanced deep-learning techniques. This research paper aims to address this gap by investigating the application of innovative deep learning models in day-ahead hourly cooling load prediction for commercial buildings situated in tropical climates. A range of deep learning techniques, including Deep Neural Network, Convolutional Neural Networks, Recurrent Neural Networks, and Long Short-Term Memory networks are employed to enhance prediction accuracy. Furthermore, these individual deep learning techniques are synergistically integrated to create hybrid models, such as CNN-LSTM and Sequence-to-Sequence models. An extensive comparative analysis is conducted to identify the most effective hybrid model. Sequence-to-sequence model provided better performance compared to the other single and hybrid models. Experiments are conducted to choose the time horizons from the past that can serve as input to the models. Further, the influence of various categories of input parameters on prediction performance has been assessed. Historical cooling load, calendar features and outdoor weather parameters are found in decreasing order of influence on prediction accuracy. This research focuses on buildings located in Singapore and presents a comprehensive case study to validate the proposed models and methodologies.

In this study, tree selection/plantation DSS (Decision Support Systems) were reviewed and assessed based on essential objectives in the available literature. We reviewed existing DSS using multiple data sources and available online resources such as web interfaces. We compared the existing DSS, focusing primarily on five primary objectives in this study, which DSS may address when it comes to the tree selection, including a) Climate resilience, b) Infrastructure/Space Optimization, c) Agroforestry, d) Ecosystem services, e) Urban sustainability. Climate resilience of tree species and urban sustainability is addressed relatively less in existing systems, which can be holistically internalized in future DSS tools Based on this review, DNN (Deep Neural Networks) is recommended to address achieving trade-offs between complex objectives such as maximizing ecosystem services, climate resilience of tree species, maintaining Agroforestry, and other benefits.

Venous thromboembolism (VTE) is a prevalent medical condition with high morbidity, mortality, and associated cost. Anticoagulation remains the main treatment for VTE, though the decision on when, how, and for how long to administer anticoagulants is increasingly complex. This review highlights the different phases of VTE management, special circumstances for consideration such as antiphospholipid syndrome, coronary artery disease, cancer associated thrombus and COVID, and future anticoagulation options. Anticoagulation management will continue to be a complex decision, applying evidence-based medicine to individual patients with the hope to maximize effectiveness while minimizing risks.

Crack inspection in railway sleepers is crucial for ensuring rail safety and avoiding deadly accidents. Traditional methods for detecting cracks on railway sleepers are very time-consuming and lack efficiency. Therefore nowadays, researchers are paying attention to the vision-based algorithm, especially Deep Learning algorithms. In this work, we adopted the U-net for the first time for detecting cracks on a railway sleeper and proposed a modified U-net architecture named Dense U-net for segmenting the cracks. In the Dense U-net structure, we established several short connections between the encoder and decoder blocks, which enabled the architecture to obtain better pixel information flow. Thus, the model extracted the necessary information in more detail to predict the cracks. We collected images from railway sleepers, processed them in a dataset, and finally trained the model with the images. The model achieved an overall F1-score, precision, Recall, and IoU of 86.5% 88.53%, 84.63%, and 76.31% respectively. We compared our suggested model with the original U-net, and the results demonstrate that our model outperformed the U-net in both quantitative and qualitative results. Moreover, we considered the necessity of crack severity analysis and measured a few parameters of the cracks (e.g., length, maximum width, area, density). The engineers must know the severity of the cracks to have an idea about the most severe locations and take the necessary steps to repair the badly affected sleepers.

Availability and continuous operation under critical conditions are very important in electric machine drive systems. However, such systems, are suffering from several type of failures that affect the electric machine or the associated voltage source inverter. Therefore, fault diagnosis and fault tolerance are highly required. This paper presents a new robust deep learning-based approach to diagnosis multiple open-circuit fault in three phase two level voltage source inverter for induction motor drive applications. The proposed approach uses fault diagnosis variables obtained from sigmoid transformation of the motor stator currents. The open-circuit fault diagnosis variables are then introduced to a Bidirectional Long Short-Term Memory algorithm to detect the faulty switch(es). Several simulation and experimental results are presented to show the proposed fault diagnosis algorithm effectiveness and robustness.

3D human pose estimation has made significant advancements through the integration of deep learning techniques. This survey provides a comprehensive review of recent 3D human pose estimation methods, with a focus on monocular images, videos, and multi-view cameras. Our approach stands out through a systematic literature review methodology, ensuring an up-to-date and meticulous overview. Unlike many existing surveys that categorize approaches based on learning paradigms, our survey offers a fresh perspective, delving deeper into the subject. For image-based approaches, we not only follow existing categorizations but also introduce and compare significant 2D models. Additionally, we provide a comparative analysis of these methods, enhancing the understanding of image-based pose estimation techniques. In the realm of video-based approaches, we categorize them based on the types of models used to capture inter-frame information. Furthermore, in the context of multi-person pose estimation, our survey uniquely differentiates between approaches focusing on relative poses and those addressing absolute poses. Our survey aims to serve as a pivotal resource for researchers, highlighting state-of-the-art deep learning strategies and identifying promising directions for future exploration in 3D human pose estimation.

This study is to explore the feasibility using neural network (NN) and deep learning to diagnose three common respiratory diseases with only few symptom words. These three diseases are nasopharyngitis, upper respiratory infection, and bronchitis/bronchiolitis. Through natural language processing, the symptom word vectors are encoded by GPT-2 and classified by the last linear layer of the NN. The experimental results are promising, showing that this model achieves a high performance in predicting all these three diseases. They reach 90% in accuracy, which suggests the implications of the developed model, highlighting its potential use in assisting patients understanding their conditions via a remote diagnosis. Unlike previous studies that focus on extracting various categories of information from medical records, this study directly extracts sequential features from unstructured text data, reducing the effort required for data pre-process.

Changes in sea level exhibit nonlinearity, nonstationarity, and multivariable characteristics, making traditional time series forecasting methods less effective in producing satisfactory results. To enhance the accuracy of the predictions of changes in sea level, this study introduced an improved VMD–EEMD–LSTM hybrid model. This model decomposes satellite altimetry data from near the Dutch coast using VMD, resulting in components of the Intrinsic Mode Function (IMF) with various frequencies and a residual sequence. EEMD further dissects the residual sequence obtained from VMD into second-order components. These IMFs decomposed by VMD and EEMD are utilized as features in the LSTM model for making predictions, culminating in the final forecasted results. The experimental results demonstrated significant improvements in the predictive performance compared with the VMD–LSTM model. The RMSE (root mean square error) decreased by an average of 58.68%, the MAE (mean absolute error) reduced by an average of 59.96%, and the R2 (coefficient of determination) increased by an average of 49.85% compared with the VMD–LSTM model. In comparison with the EEMD–LSTM model, the RMSE decreased by an average of 26.95%, the MAE decreased by an average of 28.00%, and the R2 increased by an average of 6.53%. The VMD–EEMD–LSTM model exhibited significantly improved predictive performance.

This paper presents a deep learning-based multi-guidance line detection approach, enabling an autonomous four-wheeled agricultural robot to navigate strip farmland. The integration of Proportional-Integral-Derivative (PID) and Fuzzy Logic Control (FLC) systems optimizes the velocity and heading angle of robot, facilitating smooth navigation along identified guidance line. Enhance cornering maneuverability with real-time kinematics (RTK)-assisted Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) (RTK-GNSS) positioning. Additionally, the spraying system combined with deep learning can effectively identify weeds and crop nutrient deficiencies to achieve precise spraying. The guidance system prioritizes irrigation lines for navigation, with additional guidance from crop and furrow lines. Trigonometric analysis determines the angular deviation between the identified guidance line and the vertical line of the top view image. Experiments under diverse weather conditions demonstrate the stable navigation of robot at 12.5 cm/s, achieving up to 90% accuracy in weed and nutrient deficiency identification. The spraying accuracy for weeds and deficiencies averages 87% and 73%, respectively, underscoring the system's contribution to sustainable and precision horticulture practices.

In August 2020, the World Health Assembly launched a global initiative to eliminate cervical cancer by 2030, setting three primary targets. One key goal is to achieve a 70% screening coverage rate for cervical cancer, primarily relying on the precise analysis of Papanicolaou (Pap) or digital Pap smears. However, the responsibility of reviewing Pap smear samples to identify potentially cancerous cells primarily falls on pathologists, a task known to be exceptionally challenging and time-consuming. This paper proposes a solution to address the shortage of pathologists for cervical cancer screening. It leverages the OpenAI-GYM API to create a deep reinforcement learning environment utilizing liquid-based Pap smear images. By employing the Proximal Policy Optimization algorithm, autonomous agents navigate Pap smear images, identifying cells with the aid of rewards, penalties, and accumulated experiences. Furthermore, the use of a pre-trained convolutional neuronal network like Res-Net54 enhances the classification of detected cells based on their potential for malignancy. The ultimate goal of this study is to develop a highly efficient, automated Papanicolaou analysis system, ultimately reducing the need for human intervention in regions with limited pathologists.

Osteoporosis is a common problem in orthopedic medicine, and it has become an important medical issue in orthopedics as Taiwan is gradually becoming an aging society. In the diagnosis of osteoporosis, the bone mineral density (BMD) derived from dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry (DXA) is the main criterion for orthopedic diagnosis of osteoporosis, but due to the high cost of this equipment and the lower penetration rate of the equipment compared to the X-ray images, the problem of osteoporosis has not been effectively solved for many people who suffer from osteoporosis, however, at present, in clinical diagnosis, doctors are not yet able to accurately interpret X-ray images for osteoporosis manually, and must rely on the data obtained from DXA. In recent years, with the continuous development of artificial intelligence, especially in machine learning and deep learning, significant progress has been made in image recognition. Therefore, it is worthwhile to revisit whether it is possible to use a convolutional neural network model to read a hip X-ray image and then predict the patient's BMD. In this study, we proposed a hip X-ray image segmentation model and a hip X-ray image recognition classification model. First, we used the U-Net model as a framework to segment the femoral neck, greater trochanter, wards triangle, and the total hip in the hip X-ray images. We then performed image matting and data augmentation. Finally, we constructed a predictive model for osteoporosis using deep learning algorithms. In the segmentation experiments, we used intersection over union (IoU) as the evaluation metric for image segmentation, and both the U-Net and U-Net++ models achieved segmentation results greater than or equal to 0.5. In the classification experiments, using the T-score as the classification basis, the total hip using the DenseNet121 model has the highest accuracy of 74%.

Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) is a neuro developmental condition that impacts social interac-tion, communication, and behavior. It is called a spectrum because its symptoms and degrees of severity can vary greatly from one person to the next. Differentiations in brain structure and function have been observed between autistic and typically developing brains. Various aspects of brain function, including information processing, sensory perception, and the capacity to interpret and respond to social cues, may be affected by these differences. The signs and symptoms of ASD are readily apparent to parents in the first few years of their child’s life. The symptoms of ASD, it is said, first appear in early childhood and continue into maturity. Brain MRI analysis utilizing deep learning methods show encouraging findings in the study of ASD. In this study, we look at how well a customized VGG16 architecture compares models that have already been trained. Inception v3, ResNet50, DenseNet121, and MobileNet are used to identify and analyze ASD problems in a brain MRI dataset from people with ASD. The proposed methods have been vali-dated on the unlabeled ABIDE 1 dataset that is freely available to the public. After the unlabeled data has been clustered, five different Deep Learning (DL) methods are used and compared. The results are compared to those of other studies that have already been conducted.

In a super-aged society, maintaining healthy aging, preventing death, and enabling a continua-tion of economic activities are crucial. This study sought to develop a model for predicting the survival time in community-dwelling older individuals by using a deep learning method, and to identify the level of influence of various risk factors on the survival period, so that older in-dividuals can manage their own health. This study used the Korean National Health Insurance Service claims data. We observed community-dwelling older people, aged 66 years, for 11 years and developed a survival time prediction model. Of the 189,697 individuals enrolled at baseline, 180,235 (95.0%) survived from 2009 to 2019, while 9,462 (5.0%) died. Using deep learning based models (C statistics = 0.7011), we identified Charlson’s comorbidity index; the frailty index; long-term care benefit grade; disability grade; income level; a combination of diabetes mellitus, hypertension, and dyslipidemia; sex; smoking status; and alcohol consumption habit as factors impacting survival. In particular, Charlson’s comorbidity index (SHAP value: 0.0445) and frailty index (SHAP value: 0.0443) were strong predictors of survival time. Older individuals should rec-ognize modifiable risk factors that affect survival period in order to manage their own health.

Wireless energy harvesting (EH) communication has long been considered a sustainable networking solution. However, it has been limited in efficiency, which has been a major obstacle. Recently, strategies such as energy relaying and borrowing have been explored to overcome these difficulties and provide long-range wireless sensor connectivity. In this article, we examine the reliability of the wireless-powered communication network by maximizing the net bit rate. To accomplish our goal, we focus on enhancing the performance of hybrid access points and information sources by optimizing their transmit power. Additionally, we aim to maximize the use of harvested energy by energy-harvesting relays for both information transmission and energy relaying. However, this optimization problem is complex as it involves non-convex variables and requires combinatorial relay selection indicators optimization for decode and forward (DF) relaying. To simplify this problem, we utilize the Markov decision process and deep reinforcement learning framework based on the deep deterministic policy gradient algorithm. This approach enables us to tackle this non-tractable problem, which conventional convex optimisation techniques would be difficult to solve in complex problem environments. The proposed algorithm significantly improves the end-to-end net bit rate of the smart energy borrowing and relaying EH system by 13.22%,27.57%, and 14.12% compared to the benchmark algorithm based on borrowing energy with an adaptive reward for Quadrature Phase Shift Keying, 8-PSK, and 16-Quadrature amplitude modulation schemes, respectively.

In the broad context of vulnerability detection, deep learning has achieved considerable progress but faces generalization challenges in multilingual environments . We introduce a novel approach named AST-FMVD, which leverages transfer learning and abstract syntax trees. By employing semantic similarity clustering and context-aware technology, the method constructs node mapping relationships between different languages, enabling zero-shot learning in vulnerability detection. The method was validated by applying Java's vulnerability detection model in the Python domain, successfully demonstrating that AST-FMVD retains the original model's detection capabilities in the target domain. In conclusion, the proposed method offers a promising solution to the inherent problems in multi-language vulnerability detection, signifying a potential leap in the application of deep learning, transfer learning, and abstract syntax trees for improved cross-domain performance.

Image registration (IR) is a process that deforms images to align them with respect to a reference space, making it easier for medical practitioners to examine various medical images in a standardized reference frame, such as having the same rotation and scale. This document introduces image registration using a simple numeric example. It provides a definition of image registration along with a space-oriented symbolic representation. This review covers various aspects of image transformations, including affine, deformable, invertible, and bidirectional transformations, as well as medical image registration algorithms such as Voxelmorph, Demons, SyN, Iterative Closest Point, and SynthMorph. It also explores atlas-based registration and multistage image registration techniques, including coarse-fine and pyramid approaches. Furthermore, this survey paper discusses medical image registration taxonomies, datasets, evaluation measures, such as correlation-based metrics, segmentation-based metrics, processing time, and model size. It also explores applications in image-guided surgery, motion tracking, and tumor diagnosis. Finally, the document addresses future research directions, including the further development of transformers.

Fat and oils plays one of the major roles in Sri Lankan modern unhealthy diet. The study was guided to collect, analyze, and interpret data about the awareness of general community on edible fat and oil products available in the market and their knowledge about healthy ways of usage. A total of 250 purchasing women were surveyed with a welldeveloped questionnaire. Results revealed that, Coconut oil (71%) is the leading supermarket oil product purchased and consumption of animal fats and oil are very limited (<3%) in Kandy. Educational level affects significantly (P<0.05) on purchasing behavior. Regardless of educational level and working status, price (73%) will be the most significant factor look at during purchasing edible oils. Total of 57% of purchasing women use the same oil for both deep frying and stir frying. Besides, 43% of women keep two different types. From all respondents, 83% use oil more than one time after first cooking. Working women prefer internet and facebook (38%) as the major food related information searching resource, while newspapers (35%) are among non-working women. All in all, lowering the price of healthy fat and community awareness programs will encourage healthy fat and oil purchasing behavior in Sri Lanka.

The unreliable prediction of the low frequency components from inverted acoustic impedance causes uncertainty in quantitative seismic interpretation. To address this issue, we first calculate various seismic and geological attributes that contain low frequency information, such as relative geological age, interval velocity, and integrated instantaneous amplitude. Then, we develop a method to predict the low frequency content of seismic data using these attributes, their high frequency components, and recurrent neural networks. Next, we test how to predict the low frequency components using stacking velocity obtained from velocity analysis. Using all the attributes and seismic data, we propose a supervised deep learning method to predict the low frequency components of the inverted acoustic impedance. The results obtained in both synthetic and real data cases show that the proposed method can improve the prediction accuracy of the low frequency components of the inverted acoustic impedance, with the best improvement in a real data example of 57.7% compared with the impedance predicted using well log interpolation.

Social networks have captured the attention of many people worldwide. However, these services have also attracted a considerable number of malicious users whose purpose is to compromise digital assets of other members by using messages as an attack vector to execute different variants of cyberattacks against them. Therefore, this work presents an approach based on Natural Language Processing tools and a Convolutional Neural Network architecture to detect and classify, on social network messages, four types of cyberattacks, such as malware, phishing, spam, and even one whose purpose is deceiving the user into spreading malicious messages to other users, which in this work is identified as bot attacks. One notable feature of this work is that it analyzes textual content without depending on any characteristics from a specific social network, making its analysis independent from particular data sources. Finally, this work was tested on real data, demonstrating its results in two stages. The first detects the existence of any of the four cyberattacks within the message, obtaining an accuracy value of 0.91. After detecting a message as a cyberattack, the next stage is to classify it into one of the four types of cyberattack, achieving an accuracy value of 0.82.

The mutton sheep breeding industry has transformed significantly in recent years, from traditional grassland free-range farming to a more intelligent approach. As a result, automated sheep face recognition systems have become vital to modern breeding practices and have gradually replaced ear tagging and other manual tracking techniques. Although sheep face datasets have been introduced in previous studies, they have often involved pose or background restrictions (e.g., fixing of the subject’s head, cleaning of the face), which restrict data collection and have limited the size of available sample sets. As a result, a comprehensive benchmark designed exclusively for the evaluation of individual sheep recognition algorithms is lacking. To address this issue, this study develops a large-scale benchmark dataset, Sheepface-107, comprised of 5,350 images acquired from 107 different subjects. Images were collected from each sheep at multiple angles, including front and back views, in a diverse collection that provides a more comprehensive representation of facial features. In addition to the dataset, an assessment protocol is developed by applying multiple evaluation metrics to the results produced by three different deep learning models: VGG16, GoogLeNet, and ResNet50, which achieved F1-scores of 83.79%, 89.11%, and 93.44%, respectively. A statistical analysis of each algorithm suggested that accuracy and the number of parameters were the most informative metrics for use in evaluating recognition performance.

Endoscopic submucosal dissection (ESD) is almost always performed with a sedative because of the longer procedure times involved. The risk of post-ESD deep vein thrombosis (DVT) has been reported as relatively high, and D-dimer levels are sometimes elevated after ESD. This retrospective study evaluated factors affecting changes in D-dimer levels from before to after ESD to identify causes of elevated D-dimer levels after ESD. This retrospective analysis included 117 patients with gastrointestinal tumors resected using ESD. After excluding 8 patients with pre-ESD levels of D-dimer >1.5 μg/mL, factors correlating with changes in D-dimer from before to after ESD were analyzed using logistic regression analysis in 109 patients. Sedation was accomplished primarily using midazolam, but because the sedative effect of midazolam shows marked inter-individual variability, a “corrected midazolam dose” was determined by dividing the total midazolam dose by the initial dose to correct for inter-individual differences in the sedative effect of midazolam. This value was used as one potential explanatory variable in subgroup analysis of the 103 patients who received midazolam. In subgroup analysis using the corrected midazolam dose as an explanatory variable, only corrected midazolam dose correlated with a change in D-dimer ≥ 1.0 μg/mL in multivariate analysis (odds ratio [OR]=1.5, 95% confidence interval [CI] 0.43–0.95; P=0.030). Corrected midazolam dose correlated with increases in post-ESD D-dimer levels. This potential relationship indicates that patients undergoing ESD and requiring extended sedation may be at increased risk of DVT.

Infrared and visible image fusion technologies are used to characterize the same scene by diverse modalities. However, most existing deep learning-based fusion methods are designed as symmetric networks, which ignore the differences between modal images and lead to the source image information loss during feature extraction. In this paper, we propose a new fusion framework for the different characteristics of infrared and visible images. Specifically, we design a dual-stream asymmetric network with two different feature extraction networks to extract infrared and visible feature maps respectively. The transformer architecture is introduced in the infrared feature extraction branch, which can force the network to focus on the local features of infrared images while still obtaining their contextual information. And the visible feature extraction branch uses residual dense blocks to fully extract the rich background and texture detail information of visible images. In this way, it can provide better infrared targets and visible details for the fused image. Experimental results on multiple datasets indicate that DSA-Net outperforms state-of-the-art methods in both qualitative and quantitative evaluations. In addition, we also apply the fusion results to the target detection task, which indirectly demonstrates the fusion performances of our method.

Deep eutectic solvents (DESs) have emerged as novel alternatives to common solvents and VOCs. Their employment as electrolytes in battery has been an area of intense research. In this context, understanding changes in physicochemical properties of DESs in the presence of Li salts becomes of utmost importance. Solvatochromic probes have potential to gauze such changes. It is reported herein that one such uv-vis molecular absorbance probe, Reichardt’s betaine dye 33, effectively manifests changes taking place in a DES Glyceline, composed of H-bond accepting salt choline chloride and H-bond donor glycerol in 1 : 2 molar ratio, as salt LiCl is added. Lowest energy intramolecular charge-transfer absorbance band of this dye exhibits 17 nm hypsochromic shift as up to 3.0 molal LiCl is added to Glyceline. The estimated ETN parameter shows linear increase with LiCl mole fraction. Spectroscopic responses of betaine dye 33, N,N-diethyl-4-nitroaniline and 4-nitroaniline are used to assess empirical Kamlet-Taft parameters of dipolarity/polarizability (π*), H-bond donating acidity (α) and H-bond accepting basicity (β) as a function of LiCl concentration in Glyceline. LiCl addition to Glyceline results in increase in α and no change in π*and β. It is proposed that added lithium interacts with oxygen of the –OH functionalities on the glycerol rendering the solvent with increased H-bond donating acidity. It is observed that pyrene, a popular fluorescence probe of solvent polarity, does respond to the addition of LiCl to Glyceline, however, the change in pyrene response starts to become noticeable only at higher LiCl concentration (mLiCl ≥ 1.5 m). Reichardt’s betaine dye is found to be highly sensitive and versatile in gauzing physicochemical properties of DESs in the presence of LiCl.

The optimization of the energy grid is a critical task for ensuring a sustainable and efficient energy future. Deep machine learning techniques have the potential to improve energy grid optimization by predicting energy demands and supplies, optimizing energy production and distribution, and detecting and preventing fraud. However, there are also several challenges associated with the use of deep machine learning in energy grid optimization. These include the lack of standardized datasets and data quality issues, interpretability and explain-ability of machine learning models, ethical and social implications of using machine learning, and integration with existing energy infrastructure and regulatory frameworks. Having a clear understanding that continued research and developments in deep learning applications to energy field are crucial for achieving a sustainable and efficient energy future. This paper therefore reviewed existing literature for challenges and opportunities associated with deep machine learning in energy grid optimization; and highlights the importance of continued research and development in the field. The paper found out that opportunities for future research in deep machine learning for energy grid optimization include advancements in machine learning algorithms and techniques, development of new datasets and data collection methods, integration of machine learning with other emerging technologies. It also established needs for collaborative research and public-private partnerships.

This paper presents a 32 GHz high power amplifier (HPA) with a design strategy to achieve a high-power output with reliable operation for the Ka-band deep space satellite communication in 150 nm GaN HEMT technology. The presented Ka-band HPA employs a cascaded two-stage common source amplifier topology, and the output stage is comprised of an 8-way power combining network in current mode. The interstage matching network is designed with the bandpass configuration utilizing capacitors and transmission lines to provide better stability at the low-frequency regime. The implemented Ka-band HPA achieved a peak power gain of 7.3 dB at 32 GHz and a 3 dB bandwidth was 3.5 GHz between 31.3 and 34.8 GHz. The saturated output power at the peak power added efficiency (PAE) of 19.3% was 38.2 dBm, and the output 1 dB gain compression point (OP1dB) was 27.4 dBm in the measurement. The designed HPA consumes an area of 19.35 mm^2 including RF signal, and DC pads

Surface defect detection is a crucial step in the process of automotive wheel production. However, the task possesses challenges due to complex background and a wide range of defect types. In order to detect the defects on the wheel surface accurately and quickly, this paper proposes a YOLOv5-based algorithm for automotive wheel surface defect detection. The algorithm trains and tests the YOLOv5s model using the self-created automotive wheel surface defect dataset, which contains four kinds of defects: linear, dotted, sludge, pinhole. The extensive experimental results demonstrate that the deep learning network trained by our method can achieve an average accuracy of 71.7% and 57.14 FPS. Our findings prove that this detection algorithm performs better than other common target detection algorithms and meets the real-time requirements of industrial applications.

During the last few years, several approaches have been proposed to improve early warning systems for reducing rock-fall risk. In this regard, this paper introduces a Deep learning-and (IoT) based Framework for Rock-fall Early Warning, devoted to reducing the rock-fall risk with high accuracy. In this framework, the prediction accuracy was augmented by eliminating the uncertainties and confusion plaguing the prediction model. In order to achieve augmented prediction accuracy, this framework fused the prediction model-based deep learning with a detection model-based Internet of Things. In order to determine the framework’s performance, this study adopted parameters, namely overall prediction performance measures, based on a confusion matrix and the ability to reduce the risk. The result indicates an increase in prediction model accuracy from 86% to 98.8%. In addition, a framework reduced the risk probability from (1.51 ×10-3) to (8.57 ×10-9). Our results indicate the framework’s high prediction accuracy; it also provides a robust decision-making process for delivering early warning and lowering the rock-fall risk probability.

Crack inspection is important to monitor the structural health of pavement structures and to facilitate an easier rehabilitation process. Currently, pavement crack inspection is conducted manually, which is inefficient and costly at the same time. For solving the problem, this work has developed a robotic system for automated data collection and analysis in real-time. The robotic system navigates on the pavement and collects visual images from the surface. A deep learning-based semantic segmentation framework named RCDNet was proposed and implemented on the onboard computer of the robot to identify cracks from the visual images. Simulation results show that the deep learning model obtained 96.29% accuracy for predicting the images. The proposed robotic system was tested on both indoor and outdoor environments and was observed that it can complete inspecting a 3m × 2m grid within 10 minutes and a 2.5m × 1m grid within 6 minutes. This outcome shows that the proposed robotic method can drastically reduce the time of manual inspection. Furthermore, a severity map based on the results from visual images was also generated to provide an idea of which locations should be paid more attention to repair in a test grid.

This work proposes a metaheuristic-based approach for hyperparameter selection in a multilayer perceptron to classify electromyographic signals. The main goal of the study is to improve the performance of the model by optimizing four important hyperparameters: the number of neurons, the learning rate, the epochs, and the training batches. The approach proposed in this work shows that hyperparameter optimization using particle swarm optimization and gray wolf optimizer significantly improves the performance of a multilayer perceptron for classifying EMG motion signals. The final model achieved an average classification rate of 93% for the validation phases. The results obtained are promising and suggest that the proposed approach may be helpful for the optimization of deep learning models in other signal processing applications.

(1) Background: Breast cancer is the second leading cause of cancer death among women. The accurate prediction of survival intervals will help physicians make informed decisions on treatment strategies or the use of palliative care for patients; (2) Methods: The gene expression is predictive and correlates to patient prognosis. To establish a reliable prediction tool, we collected the RNA-seq data of breast cancer patients, a total of 1187 RNA-seq data (median age 58 years), in FPKM format from the TCGA database. Among them, 144 RNA-seq data with date of death information was selected to establish the SaBrcada-AD dataset. We first normalized the SaBrcada-AD dataset to transcripts per million (TPM) to build survival prediction model SaBrcada. After normalization and dimension raising, the differential gene expression data were used for testing eight different deep learning architectures. Among them, GoogLeNet performed the best. Considering the effect of age on prognosis, we examined all ages between the lower and upper quartiles of patient age for a stratified random sampling test; (3) Results: Stratifying by age based on a cut-off of 61 years of age improved the accuracy of SaBrcada compared to previous findings, resulting in an accuracy of 0.798. We also built a free website tool to provide 5 kinds of predicted survival period information for clinician reference; (4) Conclusions: We established a breast cancer survival analysis prediction model, SaBrcada, and a website tool with the same name. Through this highly reliable survival analysis model and website tool, information on survival intervals will be provided for clinicians as part of precision medicine.

Shallow landslides pose serious threats to human existence and economic development, especially in the Himalayan areas. Landslide susceptibility mapping (LSM) is a proven way for minimizing the hazard and risk of landslides. Modeling as an essential step, various algorithms have been applied to LSM. In this study, information value (IV) and logistic regression (LR) were selected as representatives of the conventional algorithms, categorical boosting (CatBoost) and conventional neural networks (CNN) as the advanced algorithms, for LSM in Yadong county, and their performance was compared. To begin with, 496 historical landslide events were compiled into a landslide inventory map, followed by a list of 11 conditioning factors, forming a data set. Secondly, the data set was randomly divided into two parts, 80% of which was used for modeling and 20% for validation. Finally, the area under the curve (AUC) and statistical metrics were applied to validate and compare the performance of the models. The results showed that the CNN model performed the best (AUC 0.974 and accuracy=93.3%), while the LR model performed the worst (AUC 0.974 and accuracy=93.3%) and CatBoost model performed better (AUC 0.974 and accuracy=93.3%). Besides, the LSM constructed by the CNN model did a more reasonable prediction of the distribution of susceptible areas. As for feature selection, did a more detailed analysis of conditioning factors but the results were uncertain. The result analyzed by GI may be more reliable but fluctuates with the amount of data. The conclusion reveals that the accuracy of LSM can be further improved with the advancement of algorithms, by determining more representative features, which serve as a more effective guide for land use planning in the study area or other highlands where landslides are frequent.

A real-time monitoring system for the operational status of fishing vessels is an essential element for the modernization of the fishing industry. The operational status of fishing vessels can be identified by using onboard cameras to detect the deck crew and the use of fishing nets. Due to the typically limited processing capacity of shipboard equipment and the significant memory consumption of detection models, however, general target detection models are unable to perform real-time image detection to identify the operational status of fishing vessels. In this paper, we propose a lightweight real-time deck crew and the use of fishing nets detection method, YOLOv5s-SGC. It is based on the YOLOv5s model, which uses surveillance cameras to obtain video of fishing vessels operating at sea and enhances the dataset. YOLOv5s-SGC replaces YOLOv5s’s backbone and the ordinary convolutional blocks in the feature fusion network with ShufflNetV2 and Ghost module.

Fluctuating stock prices make it difficult for investors to see investment opportunities. One tool that can help investors overcome this is forecasting techniques. Long Short-Term Memory (LSTM) is one of deep learning methods used in forecasting time series. The training and success of deep learning is strongly influenced by the selection of hyperparameters. This research uses a hybrid method between the Genetic Algorithm (GA) and LSTM to find a suitable model for predicting stock prices. GA is used in optimizing the architecture such as the number of epochs, window size, and the number of LSTM units in the hidden layer. Tuning optimizer is also carried out using several optimizers to achieve the best value. From method that has been applied, it shows that the method has a good level of accuracy with MAPE values below 10% in every optimizer used. The error rate generated is quite low, in case-1 with a minimum RMSE value of 93.03 and 94.40, & in case-2 with an RMSE value of 104.99 and 150.06 during training and testing. A fairly stable and small value is generated by setting it using the Adam Optimizer.

Over the last several decades, large wildfires are increasingly common across the United States causing disproportionate impact on forest health and function, human well-being, and economy. Here, we examine the severity of large wildfires across the Contiguous United States over the past decade (2011-2020) using a wide array of meteorological, vegetational, and topographical features in the Deep Neural Network model. A total of 4,538 wildfire incidents were used in the analysis covering 87,305 square miles of burned area. We observed the highest number of large wildfires in California, Texas, and Idaho, with lightning causing 43 % of these incidents. Importantly, results indicate that the severity of wildfire occurrences is highly correlated with the climatological forcings, land cover, location, and elevation of the ecosystem. Overall, results may serve useful guide in managing landscapes under changing climate and disturbance regimes.

The rapid development of Deep Learning brought novel methodologies for 3D Object Detection using LiDAR sensing technology. These improvements in precision and inference speed performances lead to notable high performance and real-time inference, which is especially important for self-driving purposes. However, the developments carried by these approaches overwhelm the research process in this area since new methods, new technologies, and software versions lead to different project necessities, specifications and requirements. Moreover, the improvements brought by the new methods may be due to improvements in newer versions of deep learning frameworks and not just the novelty and innovation of the model architecture. Thus, it became crucial to create a framework with the same software versions, specifications and requirements that accommodate all these methodologies and allow the easy introduction of new methods and models. A framework is proposed that abstracts the implementation, reusing and building of novel methods and models. The main idea is to facilitate the representation of state-of-the-art (SoA) approaches and simultaneously encourage the implementation of new approaches by reusing, improving and innovating modules in the proposed framework, which has the same software specifications to allow a fair comparison. This makes it possible to determine if the key innovation approach outperforms the current SoA by comparing models in a framework with the same software specifications and requirements.

Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAV) are increasingly being used in a variety of domains and precision agriculture is no exception. Precision agriculture is the future of agriculture and will play a key role in long-term sustainability of agricultural practices. This paper presents a survey of how image data collected using UAVs has been used in conjunction with ma-chine learning techniques to support precision agriculture. Numerous agricultural applications including classification of crop types and trees, crops detection, weed detection, cropland cover, and segmentation of farming fields are discussed. A variety of supervised, semi-supervised and unsupervised machine learning techniques for image-based preci-sion agriculture are compared. The survey showed that for traditional machine learning approaches, Random Forests performed better than Support Vector Machines (SVM) and K-Nearest Neighbor Algorithm (KNN) for crop/weed classification. And, while Convolutional Neural Networks (CNN) have been used extensively, the U-Net-based models out-performed conventional CNN models for classification and segmentation tasks. Among the Single Stage Detectors (SSD), YOLO series performed relatively well. Two-Stage Detectors like R-CNN, FPN, and Mask R-CNN generally tended to outperform SSDs. Vision Trans-formers (ViT) showed promising results amongst transformer-based models which did not generally perform better than CNNs. Finally, Generative Adversarial Networks (GANs) have been used to address the problem of smaller datasets and unbalanced data

As a new distributed machine learning (ML) approach, federated learning (FL) shows the great potential to preserve data privacy by enabling distributed data owners to collaboratively build a global model without sharing their raw data. However, the heterogeneity in terms of data distribution and hardware configurations make it hard to select participants from the thousands of nodes. In this paper, we propose a multi-objective node selection approach to improve time-to-accuracy performance while resisting malicious nodes. We firstly design a deep reinforcement learning assisted FL framework. Then the problem of multi-objective node selection under this framework is formulated as a Markov decision process (MDP), which aims to reduce the training time and improve model accuracy simultaneously. Finally, a deep Q-netwok (DQN) based algorithm is proposed to efficiently solve the optimal set of participants for each iteration. Simulation results show that the proposed method not only significantly improves the accuracy and training speed of FL, but has stronger robustness to resist malicious nodes.

Importance and need for cyber security have increased in folds since a decade. Indirectly, the country’s security depends on the country’s cyber-physical systems. Attackers are becoming more innovative, and attacks are becoming undetectable, causing huge risks to the systems. In this scenario, intelligent and evolving detection methods should be introduced to replace the basic and outworn ones. This article discusses about new-age intelligence and smart techniques dealing with artificial intelligence (AI) models. Artificial intelligence for cyber security is reviewed, and the performance of machine learning models (ML) and deep learning (DL) models are analysed. A real-time case study of stealthy local covert attacks with false data injection attacks is implemented on the DC-DC converter. A deep learning model is designed to mitigate cyber attacks, and its performance is evaluated.

For W-band long-range mm-wave wireless transmission systems, nonlinearity issues resulting from photoelectric devices, optical fiber, and wireless power amplifiers can be handled by deep learning equalization algorithms. Besides, the PS technique is considered an effective measure to further increase the capacity of the modulation-constraint channel. However, since the proba-bilistic distribution of m-QAM varies with the amplitude, there have been difficulties in learning valuable information from the minority class. This limits the gain of nonlinear equalization. To overcome the imbalanced machine learning problem, we propose a novel two-lane DNN (TLD) equalizer with the random over-sampling (ROS) technique in this paper. The combination of PS at the transmitter and ROS at the receiver improves the overall performance of the W-band wireless transmission system, and our 4.6-km ROF delivery experiment verifies its effectiveness for the W-band mm-wave PS-16QAM system. Based on our proposed equalization scheme, we realize single-channel 10-Gbaud W-band PS-16QAM wireless transmission over 100 m optical fiber link and 4.6-km wireless air-free distance. The results show that compared with the typical TLD without ROS, the TLD-ROS can improve the receiver sensitivity by 1dB. Furthermore, a reduction of 45.6% in complexity is realized, and training samples can be reduced by 15.5%. Considering the actual wireless physical layer with its requirements, there is much to be gained from the joint use of deep learning and balanced data pre-processing techniques.
