Antibiotic Resistance (ABR) is increasing the mortality and morbidity associated with infectious diseases, besides increasing the cost of healthcare, saturating health-system capacity, and adversely affecting food security. Framing an appropriate narrative and engaging local communities through ‘One Health’ approach is essential to complement the top down measures. However, the absence of objective criteria to measure the performance of ABR interventions at community settings make it difficult to mobilize interest and investment for such interventions. An exercise was therefore done to develop an indicator framework for this purpose. An exhaustive list of indicators was developed from experiences gathered through community engagement work in a local panchayat (small administrative area) in Kerala, India, and a consultative process with health, veterinary, environment, and development experts. A prioritization exercise was done, looking at appropriateness, feasibility and validity, by global experts on ABR. A 15-point indicator framework was designed based on the prioritization process. The final set of indicators covers human health, animal health, environment management and Water Sanitation and hygiene (WASH) domains. The indicator framework was piloted in the panchayat(located in Kerala), which attained a score of 34 (maximum 45). The score increased when interventions were implemented to mitigate the ABR drives, indicating the framework is sensitive to change. Simultaneously, the indicator framework was tested in four sites from three other Indian states with different socioeconomic and health profiles, yielding different scores. Those collecting the field data were able to use it with minimal training. To conclude, this indicator framework can help policymakers broadly understand the factors contributing to ABR and measure the performance of interventions they choose to implement in the community

Physical activity is especially important of children's everyday life with chronic disease. The aim of the study was to show whether asthma is a barrier to physical activity in our society. The correlation between the severity of the disease, body mass index, and physical activity were analyzed, and, parents' opinion whether children should participate in active sports was assessed. Physical activity of children with asthma was analyzed by questionnaires and activity-measuring armbands. 93 parents and their children were involved in the survey, while 20 children were wearing the armband. The age of children was 12.6±3.5 years (mean±SD), 69.9% were boys, 30.1% were girls. 93.4% of the respondents participated in physical education program and 56.5% also attended sporting activities on a regular basis. 61.2% of the children had mild, 37.6% moderate, and 1.2% severe asthma. 6.5% of the respondents stated that their illness had been consistently or frequently limiting the performance concerning their school or home duties over the past 4 weeks. Twelve percent of parents felt that physical activity was not appropriate in the context of this disease. We conclude, that fear of the consequences of physical activity depends largely on education which should involve their parents, teachers and coaches.

The Dutch PET@home Toolkit was developed to mitigate challenges and foster conversations and planning concerning pets in long-term care at home. This process evaluation study aimed to evaluate the practical application of the toolkit on four topics: 1) satisfaction; 2) relevance; 3) feasibility; and 4) integration of the PET@home Toolkit materials in home care. Outcomes may be used to improve the toolkit materials to better align with the long-term care at home setting. Accounting for data saturation, professional caregivers (N=6), clients (N=2), and family caregivers (N=2) who used toolkit materials participated in semi-structured interviews. Interviews were analysed by two researchers in ATLAS.ti using an inductive-iterative approach. The researchers reached consensus on themes and clustering within interview topics. This led to the identification of the following topics and (themes): satisfaction (general impression, suggestions for improvement), relevance (awareness, planning, pet-related aspects in practice, impact on healthcare quality), feasibility (healthcare practice, competence, quantity), and implementation (digitalisation, task owner, piloting, timing). Several improvements were made to toolkit materials, such as providing clearer instructions for clients in the information booklet. Participants acknowledged the toolkit could lead to better planning while mitigating potential challenges concerning pets which may lead to longer-lasting relationships between clients and their pets.

Landslides in the hilly regions of Al‐Madinah Al‐Munawarah are a natural hazard that endangers both infrastructure and human lives. The objective of this work is to create maps that show the likelihood of landslides occurring on the Al Figrah Road, which is a vital road connects the cities of Al‐Madinah and Yanbu. This will be done using the analytical hierarchy process (AHP) approach. The landslide susceptibility maps have been created by taking into account various parameters such as elevation, slope, aspect, drainage density, lithology, soil, and precipitation. Assess the significance of these thematic layers in relation to the frequency of landslides in the research area based on historical landslide data and field verification, in order to allocate suitable weights. The sensitivity maps of the study region delineated areas with low risk (93,552,333 m2), moderate risk (271,180,722 m2), and high risk (33,053,839 m2). 28.63% of the Al Figrah total Road is classified as low risk, 48.09% as moderate risk, and 23.28% as high risk. A total of 10 landslides were identified in areas with steep slopes and denudational hills, confirming the findings of the AHP analysis conducted in high‐risk zones. The integrity of these slide zones was greatly impacted by the presence of joints, faults, foliation, and shear zones within igneous and metamorphic rocks. Examining the susceptibility of landslides in this region enhances our understanding of landslides on other steep routes in Saudi Arabia.

Take comprehensive supervision legislation as solution path, take central and local comprehensive cohesion as realization mechanism, highly integrated and coordinate in legislation, to implement institution allocation which efficient use of agricultural natural resources assets and rural green ecological environment protection are considered.

The aim of this study was to investigate and effect of application of different conditions of freeze-drying on the kinetics of process and the sorption properties of dried apples. Slices of apple were frozen and subjected to freezing-drying process with different combination of a shelf temperature (-20, 10, 20, 30°C) and pressure (37, 63, 103, 165 Pa). During the freeze-drying, the temperature in the centre of material was recorded. The moisture content in dried material and changes of water content dried apples stored at humidity of 75.3% were obtained. The Midilli et al. model was used to describe drying kinetics of the freeze-drying with good fit. Drying time decreased from 660 (variant with a constant shelf temperature of 30°C, pressure 63 Pa) to 1305 minutes (variant with temperatures −20: 10: 20: 30°C, pressure 63 Pa). For this reason, the most favourable experimental parameters were: temperature of 30°C and pressure of 63 Pa. However, application of these parameters caused higher absorption of water vapour during storage. Therefore, the selection of freeze-drying parameters should also be related to the expected properties of the final product.

In recent years, artificial intelligence technology has seen increasingly widespread application in the field of intelligent manufacturing, particularly with deep learning offering novel methods for recognizing geometric shapes with specific features. In traditional CNC machining, computer-aided manufacturing (CAM) typically generates G-code for specific machine tools based on existing models. However, the tool paths for most CNC machines consist of a series of collinear motion commands (G01), often resulting in discontinuities in the curvature of adjacent tool paths, leading to machining defects. To address these issues, this paper proposes a method for CNC system machining trajectory feature recognition and path optimization based on intelligent agents. This method employs intelligent agents to construct models, analyze the key geometric information in the G-code generated during CNC machining, and uses the MCRL deep learning model incorporating linear attention mechanisms and multiple neural networks for recognition and classification. Path optimization is then carried out using mean filtering, Bezier curve fitting, and an improved novel adaptive coati optimization algorithm (NACOA) according to the degree of unsmoothness of the path. Taking the optimization of a gear model’s process file as an example, the effectiveness of the proposed method is verified. The research results indicate that the CNC system machining trajectory feature recognition and path optimization method based on intelligent agents can significantly enhance the smoothness of CNC machining paths, reduce machining defects, and has substantial application value.

This article discusses collaborative ethnography as a meaningful source for spatial research, in particular, for participatory methodologies in urban planning and placemaking processes. It investigates the experiences with co-creation and co-research in different research projects to gain insight into the performance of collaborative ethnography as a technique to explore and enrich local knowledge. To better understand the possible causal relationships between the experience gained in the projects and the learnt lessons, we also identify recommendations for improving research methodologies to be applied in placemaking. The article concludes that collaborative ethnography is an effective tool for adding value to spatial co-research and co-creation processes. It opens opportunities for the co-production of space, ideas and knowledge, contributing at the same time to better informed decision-making. It also helps improve ideas and gather insights into the spatial needs of focus groups.

Financial statements depict the condition of a company and need to be analyzed and evaluated to assess its performance. This research aims to analyze financial statements to describe the financial condition, measure business development over time, and evaluate the achievement of the com-pany's objectives. An optimization analysis of financial ratios is performed using the Weighted Goal Programming (WGP) model, which addresses multiple objectives by applying weights based on their priorities. The Analytical Hierarchy Process was used to determine the priority weights of deviation variables from each financial ratio target. Financial ratios were selected based on their impact on profit using factor analysis. The constructed WGP model aims to minimize deviations in Return on Assets, Operating Ratios, Operating Income Ratio, Total Assets Turnover, and Current Ratio. Computational calculations to solve the WGP model are per-formed using Python, with pseudocode provided. A case study on a company in the garment and textile sector was conducted and found that the Operating Ratio, Return on Assets, Operating Income Ratio, and Current Ratio still need improvement by developing strategies to achieve the targets. Sensitivity analysis was also employed to assess the resilience of the model in response to alterations in data.

: Climate change necessitates urgent actions to mitigate carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions from fossil fuel-based energy generation. Among various strategies, the deployment of carbon capture and storage (CCS) solutions are critical for reducing emissions from point sources such as power plants and heavy industries. In this context, cryogenic carbon capture (CCC) via desublimation has emerged as a promising technology. While CCC offers high separation efficiency, minimal downstream compression work, and integration potential with existing industrial processes, challenges such as low operating temperatures and equipment costs persist. Ongoing research aims to address these hurdles in order to optimize the desublimation processes for widespread implementation. This review consolidates diverse literature works, providing insights into the strengths and limitations of CCC technology, including the latest pilot plant scale demonstrations. The transformative potential of CCC is first assessed on a theoretical basis, such as thermodynamic aspects and mass transfer phenomena. Then, recent advancements in the proposed process configurations are critically assessed and compared through key performance indicators. Furthermore, future research directions for this technology are clearly highlighted.

This study explored the feasibility of fluoride removal from simulated semiconductor industry wastewater and its recovery as calcium fluoride using fluidized bed crystallization. The continuous reactor showed best performance (>90% fluoride removal and >95% crystallization efficiency) at a calcium to fluoride ratio of 0.6 within first 40 days of continuous operation. The resulting particle size increased by more than double during this time along with a 36% increase in the seed bed height indicating deposition of CaF2 onto the silica seed. The SEM-EDX analysis showed the size and shape of the crystals formed along with high amount of Ca-F ions presence. The purity of the CaF2 crystals were determined to be 91.1% though ICP-OES analysis. Following the continuous experiment, different process improvement strategies are explored. The addition of excess amount of calcium resulted in an additional 6% fluoride removal, however, compared to this single stage process, a two-stage approach was found to be better strategy to achieve a low effluent fluoride concentration. The fluoride removal reached 94% with this two-stage approach under optimum condition of 4 + 1 h HRT combinations and a [Ca2+]/[F-] ratio of 0.55 and 0.7 for the two reactors, respectively. CFD simulation showed the impact of inlet diameter, bottom-angle shape and width and height ratio of the reactor on mixing inside reactor and possibility of further improvement in reactor performance by optimizing the FBR configuration.

As companies increasingly undergo digital transformation, the role of talent management pro-cesses becomes pivotal in enhancing overall organizational performance. The research addresses the significance of talent management in corporate digital transformation, examining whether variations in the digitalization of these processes can be attributed to company size. A qualitative approach was employed, utilizing a questionnaire, collecting responses from 202 organizations across diverse sectors. Findings reveal disparities in digitalization throughout the talent man-agement process, with pronounced presence in the attracting, selecting, and rewarding phases, but diminishing in deployment and development, further declining in planning. A positive cor-relation between company size and adoption of specific digital platforms was observed. Larger enterprises exhibit greater utilization of digital platforms in talent deployment and development. Moreover, corporate communication tools are consistently utilized in the rewarding phase, irre-spective of company size. These findings offer practical insights for organizations to optimize their digitalization strategies based on their scale, thereby contributing to more effective and tailored digitalization endeavors. The uniqueness of this research lies in its exploration of the in-fluence of company size on the digitalization of talent management processes and its potential to explain variations across different stages of these processes.

During the thinning process, in the semiconductor industry, residual stress from thin films can cause severe warpage in wafers, which can compromise their processability and packaging. This warpage can lead to bifurcation or buckling, making it important to understand this phenomenon for the manufacturing of large semiconductor wafers. We conducted a finite element analysis of the thinning process using ANSYS mechanical enterprise 2023/R2 to investigate the asymmetric curvatures resulting from bifurcation in a standard 300 mm Si (001) wafer. We induced an asymmetry in the system by applying a slight force on a point of the circumferential region perpendicularly to the substrate. We also simulated the compressive stress from the damaged layer formed during the thinning process and considered its influence on warpage and bifurcation in both linear and non-linear cases. We also included the influence of Earth's gravity induced deflection (GID) and investigated the influence of the compressive stress damaged layer on the grinding process of the whole wafer by adding a metal front layer to the ground back damaged wafer.

Inadequately managed agricultural waste significantly impacts the environment, health, and economy. This form of pollution arises from the underutilization, poor awareness, and insufficient treatment of agricultural waste. Fruit and vegetable wastes are valuable sources of bioactive compounds. This study aims to revalorize discarded waste from red habanero chili peppers (Capsicum chinense) by extracting bioactive compounds through different extraction processes: maceration (ME), maceration assisted by ultrasound (US), Soxhlet extraction (SE), supercritical fluid extraction (SFE), and supercritical fluid extraction with a co-solvent (SFEC). Extraction processes have significant effects on extraction efficiency and phytochemical profile (capsaicinoids and carotenoids recovery). The results indicate that the highest efficiency process is obtained with SFEC, also a high phytochemicals recovery (14.9 mg of total capsaicinoids and total carotenoids 292.09 µg per gram of sample). Concerning to phytochemical profile in the extract, the maceration process gets the highest concentration of compound followed by US and SFEC. These data reveal that the use of SFE and SFEC extraction is recommended for extraction of phytochemicals with biologically activity from red habanero chili pepper waste for diverse industries application.

In this paper the thermodynamic and reactivity study of light alcohol fuels was prepared, based on experimental and numerical results. We also tested the influence of water addition on fundamental properties of the combustion reactivity dynamics in closed vessels, like the maximum explosion pressure, maximum rate of pressure rise and the explosion delay time of alcohol-air mixtures. Substances that we investigated were: methanol, ethanol, n-propanol and iso-propanol. All experiments were conducted at initial conditions of 323.15 K and 1 bar in a 20 dm3 closed testing vessel. We investigated the reactivity and thermodynamic properties during the combustion of liquid fuel-air mixtures with equivalence ratios between 0.3-0.7 as well as some admixtures with water, to observe water mitigation effects. All light alcohols samples were prepared at the same initial conditions on a volumetric basis by mixing the pure components. The volumetric water content of the admixtures was varied from 10 to 60 vol%. The aim of water addition was to investigate the influence of thermodynamic properties of light alcohols and to find out to which extent a water addition may accomplish mitigation of combustion dynamics and thermodynamic reactivity.

The fifth Industrial revolution (I5.0) prioritizes resilience and sustainability, integrating cognitive cyber-physical systems and advanced technologies to enhance machining processes. Numerous research studies have been conducted to optimize machining operations by identifying and reducing the sources of uncertainty and estimating the optimal cutting parameters. Virtual modeling and Tool Condition Monitoring (TCM) methodologies have been developed to assess the cutting states during machining processes. With a precise estimation of cutting states, the safety margin necessary to deal with the uncertainties can be reduced, resulting in improved process productivity. This paper reviews the recent advances in high-performance machining systems with a focus on the cyber-physical models developed for the cutting operation of difficult-to-cut materials using cemented carbide tools. An overview of the literature and background on the advances in the offline and online process optimization approaches have been presented. Process optimization objectives such as tool life utilization, dynamic stability, enhanced productivity, improved machined part quality, and reduced energy consumption and carbon emissions are independently investigated for the offline and online optimization methods. Addressing the critical objectives and constraints prevalent in industrial applications, the paper explores the challenges and opportunities inherent in developing a robust cyber-physical optimization system

The key to building a strong bridge country lies in talent, and the foundation lies in education. The cultivation of bridge engineering talents is related to the future and destiny of building a strong bridge country. This course adopts the educational philosophy of "holographic teaching method" centered on the comprehensive development of students, cultivating "engineering thinking" guided by engineering education certification, enhancing "abilities and qualities" through professional knowledge, reconstructing the course knowledge content system through engineering philosophy thinking, and implementing the ideological and political construction of the course in a multi-level unified manner of "explicit + implicit". Based on restructuring the course content system, we will strengthen the construction of diversified course resources, integrate theory with practice throughout the entire process of the course, practice the concept of "bridge architects + bridge engineers" parallel development, and cultivate cross-border and compound talents with comprehensive qualities of "engineering + art + humanities".

The development of an equipment starts from an effective design activity. The concept selection process is an activity that is entailed in the design stage and its relevance in the design process cannot be overemphasized because it informs the choice of optimal conceptual design from a set of alternative design. Hence, there is a need to accrue efforts to the concept selection process because of its importance. This article presents the identification of optimal conceptual design as a Multicriteria decision making model by assessing the suitability of Fuzzy Measurement Alternatives and Ranking according to COmpromise Solution (MARCOS). The Fuzzy MARCOS model was developed to access four alternative conceptual designs of briquetting machines considering eight design features with several sub features. The fuzzy MARCOS model was able to rank the conceptual designs and the results obtained from the decision analysis showed that the Fuzzy MARCOS model was able to rank the designs based on their performance and the final values of the overall utility function. The overall utility function is a based on the utility degree of the conceptual design alternatives in terms of the best and worst designs identified by the model. The utility degree created a platform for comparison on how the design alternatives varies from the best and worst design.

In the scientific community, it is difficult to find a consensus on defining BIM. Just as the acronym BIM is developed in different ways, it is also understood in different ways. Depending on its understanding, different definitions emerge. It is defined differently by organizations and standards, still differently by academics. Many years of academic discourse on the subject have failed to produce a solution. Despite the fact that the acronym BIM has already done its work for the construction industry, it still stirs up excitement. There is still no clear definition, as the view of BIM varies from one perspective to another. This article attempts to sort out the definitions cited so far by important organizations and key academics. The review was based on deep literature study has attempted to be inclusive and consistent. The question still remains open: do we need a single, correct definition of BIM? The aim of the article is to try to answer this question, open up a renewed discussion and come to a satisfactory consensus. BIM can be identified with an activity, product or system. The article breaks down the definitions of BIM, identifies six key attributes of BIM, presents the evolution of the understanding of BIM and proposes new definitions in a narrow and broad approach.

Background: Patients’ effective hand hygiene helps to reduce healthcare-associated infections, prevents the spread of nosocomial infections and communicable diseases, such as COVID-19. This study aimed to describe effective hand hygiene decisions based on the Health Action Process Ap-proach (HAPA) and whether this pattern is invariant for mental health. Methods: Data were collected cross-sectionally from patients who had previously been admitted to a hospital (N=279; study 1) and longitudinally from psychosomatic rehabilitation patients (N=1,073; study 2). The fit of the HAPA framework and changes in hand hygiene decisions regarding com-pliance, as well as social-cognitive variables of the HAPA, and mental health status were examined. Results: The trimmed HAPA framework fitted the data well (χ2=27.1, df=12, p<.01, CMIN/df=2.26, CFI=.97, RMSEA=.08). According to multi-group structural equation modeling, the HAPA model with hand hygiene behavior were found to be invariant with regard to mental health. Conclusion: The trimmed HAPA framework revealed to be a generic framework in explaining so-cial-cognitive processes relating to hand hygiene decisions. Helping individuals to perform hand hygiene recommendation requires intention formation and bridging the intention-behavior gap. This can be done by promoting planning and self-efficacy. All processes appear generic to partic-ipants with and without mental health challenges.

The aim of this study was to determine the technical potential of the Polish Exclusive Economic Zone and to identify potential areas for offshore wind development. The paper proposes a GIS-based methodology in which a unique set of constraint-related criteria was employed to select the bests sites. These criteria included wind velocity, water depth, distance from nature conser-vation areas, distance from submarine cables and gas pipelines, distance from shipping routes, distance from fishing areas, distance from shipwrecks, distance from coastline. The Analytic Hi-erarchy Process was employed to indicate the best locations. Accordingly, the total suitable marine area of 16218.67 square kilometers was divided into three parts, in which the highly suitable area accounted for 17.55%, the moderately suitable area was 48.56%, and the marginally suitable area was 10.26%. Two different spatial configurations for the deployment of individual wind turbines were considered to assess the offshore wind potential. First configuration could accommodate 3664 turbines with overall electrical capacity equal to 54.96 GW, whereas the second one 2347 turbines with overall electrical capacity equal to 35.2 GW. The technical potential only in highly suitable areas was equal to 15.24 GW and 9.15 GW, respectively. The results were presented in the form of maps over the domain covering with spatial resolution of 1 km x 1 km.

In a particle swarm with a fixed kinetic energy, the constituent particles move randomly and their velocity magnitudes follow a Maxwell distribution characterized by specific parameters. Within a certain time frame, particles in a sub-swarm may exhibit a bias in their movement direction. Thus, the particles may exhibit a special characteristic (biased random motion), where the group velocity in a particular direction remains constant u. For this biased particle swarm, composed of randomly moving particles with a fixed average speed c, particles have a higher probability of moving in a specific direction. Conversely, their likelihood of moving in all other directions is equally reduced. This study starts from the perspective of biased random walks and using Mathematica software proves that the diffusion rate of particles (in the reference frame R_u observed from R₀) in all directions is slower than that of an unbiased particle swarm with the same average speed c. Specifically, the degree of reduction is determined by the Lorentz-like factor. Lastly, we present the Ito equation for this biased random motion and provide associated verification examples. This study aims to serve as a reference for comprehending the underlying principles of the special relativity effect.

By employing the stochastic extension of the Madelung quantum-hydrodynamic description within a discrete methodology, we establish a solution using the path integral approach to explore the progression of quantum states' superposition. This investigation aims to understand the eventual establishment of a stable end-state configuration amid the backdrop of gravitational background fluctuations. The model identifies the circumstances that lead to a limited range of interaction for the quantum potential, allowing for the emergence of sizeable, classically described macroscopic phenomena. The theory unveils the lowest achievable level of uncertainty in an open quantum system and investigate its congruence with the localized behaviors of macroscopic classical systems. The study examines agreements and differences with decoherence theory and the Copenhagen interpretation of quantum mechanics, and evaluates the impact of wave function decay on the measurement process.

Nitric acid is a key component in the production of nitrate fertilisers and is industrially produced using the Ostwald process. The Ostwald process can be further intensified by oxidising nitric oxide to nitrogen dioxide using heterogeneous catalysts. We have explored various monometallic and bimetallic catalysts for NO to NO2 oxidation and found ruthenium supported on ceria, containing 10 wt.% manganese to be a promising catalyst for oxidising NO to NO2 at low temperatures at industrially relevant conditions. For a feed comprising 10% NO, 6% O2, 15% H2O and rest Ar, and 8% NO, 2% NO2 5% O2, 15% H2O and rest Ar, the ruthenium-manganese catalysts attained NO-NO2 equilibrium below 400∘C. For the 5wt.% ruthenium and 10 wt.% manganese on ceria catalyst, an apparent activation energy of 39.4 kJ/mol and 85.4 kJ/mol were observed in the absence and presence of NO2, respectively. These findings demonstrate the potential of supported bimetallic ruthenium-manganese catalysts for efficient oxidation of NO to NO2 at low temperatures which can lead to significant process intensification of nitric acid plants.

Dynamic neural networks (DNN) are types of artificial neural networks (ANN) that are designed to work with sequential data where context in time is important. In contrast to traditional static neural networks that process data in a fixed order, dynamic neural networks use information about past inputs, which is important if dynamic of a certain process is emphasized. They are widely used in natural language processing, speech recognition and time series prediction. In industrial processes, their use is interesting for the prediction of difficult-to-measure process variables. In an industrial process of isomerization, it is crucial to measure the quality attributes affecting the octane number of gasoline. Process analyzers that are commonly used for this purpose are expensive and subject to failures, therefore, in order to achieve continuous production in case of malfunction, mathematical models for estimating the product quality attributes are imposed as a solution. In this paper, mathematical models were developed using dynamic recurrent neural networks (RNN), i.e., their subtype of a long short-term memory (LSTM) architecture. The results of the developed models were compared with the results of several types of other data-driven models developed for an isomerization process, such as multilayer perceptron (MLP) artificial neural networks, support vector machines (SVM) and dynamic polynomial models. The obtained results are satisfactory, which suggests a good possibility of application.

Due to the high computational burden and the high nonlinearity of the responses, crashworthiness optimizations are notoriously hard-to-solve challenges. Among various approaches, methods like the Successive Response Surface Method (SRSM) have stood out for their efficiency in enhancing baseline designs within a few iterations. However, these methods have limitations that restrict their application. Their minimum iterative resampling required is often computationally prohibitive. Furthermore, surrogate models are conventionally constructed using Polynomial Response Surface (PRS), a method that is poorly versatile, prone to overfitting, and incapable of quantifying uncertainty. Furthermore, the lack of continuity between successive response surfaces results in suboptimal predictions. This paper introduces the Multi-Fidelity Successive Response Surface (MF-SRS), a Gaussian process-based method, which leverages a nonlinear multi-fidelity approach for more accurate and efficient predictions compared to SRSM. After initial testing on synthetic problems, this method is applied to a real-world crashworthiness task: optimizing a bumper crossmember and crash box system. Results, benchmarked against SRSM and the Gaussian Process Successive Response Surface (GP-SRS) – a single-fidelity Gaussian process-driven extension of SRSM, show that MF-SRS offers distinct advantages. Specifically, it improves upon the specific energy absorbed optimum value achieved by SRSM by 14.1 %, revealing its potential for future applications.

Abstract: An Al-Co-Y diffusion coating was prepared on a TiAl alloy by pack cementation process at a low temperature range of 650-720 ℃. The influence of different activators and co-deposition temperatures on the coating’s microstructure and formation process, and high temperature oxida-tion performance was studied. The results showed that NaF was a more suitable activator for preparing the Al-Co-Y diffusion coating on TiAl alloy compared to NH4Cl and AlCl3. A more compact coating structure can be obtained when deposition was performed at 680 ℃ using NaF as the activator. The coating was mainly composed of a TiAl3 outer layer, a TiAl2 inner layer, and a thin Al-rich TiAl inter-diffusion layer. The growth of the coating exhibited a positive linear correlation between coating thickness increase and the square root of deposition time. The high-temperature oxidation tests showed that a dense scale mainly composed of Al2O3 and a small amount of TiO2 formed on the coating after oxidation at 950 ℃ for 100 h. The scale possessed excellent high-temperature oxidation resistance, with a parabolic rate constant of the oxidation weight gain approximately 4.9×10-3 mg2/cm4 h, which is lower than that of the TiAl substrate by about three orders of magnitude, and lower than that of the pure Al diffusion coating more than one order of magnitude.

Biomass gasification acquired great interest over the past decades as an effective and trustable technology to produce energy and fuels with net-zero carbon emissions. Moreover, using biomass waste as feedstock enables to recycle organic wastes and to fit the circular economy goals thus reducing the environmental impacts of waste management. Even if many studies have been already carried on, this kind of process must still be investigated and optimized with the final aim to develop industrial plants for different applications, from the hydrogen production to net-negative emission strategies. Modeling and developing of process simulations became an important tool to investigate the chemical and physical behavior of the plant, allowing to make a first raw optimization of the process and to define heat and material balances of the plant as well as to define optimal geometrical parameters with cost and time effective approaches. The present review paper focuses on the main literature models developed until now to describe biomass gasification process, and in particular on kinetic models, thermodynamic models, and computational fluid dynamic models. The aim of this study is to point out the strengths and the weakness of those models, comparing them and indicating in which situation is better to use an approach instead of another. Moreover, theoretical shortcut models and software simulations, not explicitly addressed by prior reviews, are taken into account. For researchers and designers this review provides a detailed methodology characterization as a guide to develop innovative study or project.

Studying and understanding the behavior of people and vehicles on public roads can be of utmost importance for supporting the activities of many institutional stakeholders. It may allow automated supervision of the ongoing situation in a given place, with warnings or alarms raised in case of anomalies. It may be used to plan their interventions on road and town organization. It may provide them with advanced support to decision-making. The number of involved entities and places to manage makes it infeasible to manually handle all the traffic-related tasks. Moreover, the complexity of the tasks to be carried out requires the adoption of advanced approaches. Many AI solutions are nowadays mature to support these requirements. In some cases, the motivations and objectives of traffic management require the AI outcomes to be understandable, interpretable and explainable. In this paper, we propose TrAnSIT (TRaffic ANalysis Supervision and Interpretation Tool), an AI-based framework that combines several modules, each aimed at tackling a specific traffic-related task, so as to cover a wide landscape of traffic-related issues, from overall urban or suburban traffic management to surveying specific road segments that fall under the scope of one camera. Most of these modules are based on AI techniques that support a human-level understanding of the outcomes.

This paper presents a systematic approach to developing big data analytics for manufacturing process-relevant decision-making activities from the perspective of smart manufacturing. The proposed analytics consists of five integrated system components: 1) data preparation system, 2) data exploration system, 3) data visualization system, 4) data analysis system, and 5) knowledge extraction system. The functional requirements of the integrated systems are elucidated. In addition, JAVA- and spreadsheet-based systems are developed to realize the proposed integrated system components. Finally, the efficacy of the analytics is demonstrated using a case study where the goal is to determine the optimal material removal conditions of a dry electrical discharge machining operation. The analytics identified the variables (among voltage, current, pulse-off time, gas pressure, and rotational speed) that effectively maximize the material removal rate. It also identified the variables that do not contribute to the optimization process. The analytics also quantified the underlying uncertainty. In synopsis, the proposed approach results in transparent, big-data-inequality-free, and less resource-dependent data analytics, which is desirable for small and medium enterprises—the actual sites where machining is carried out.

The aim of the study was to identify the existence of positive relationships between certain psychomotor behaviors, which we consider specific to swimming, and learning the execution technique of some styles (front crawl and backstroke). The study was carried out during 10 months, including 76 children (40 boys and 36 girls) aged between 6-9 years who practice recreational swimming in a Romanian city. Several tests were used: Tapping test for manual dexterity and laterality, the Goudenough test for body schema, the Flamingo test for static balance, the horizontal buoyancy test for body balance on the water. Results indicated better ratings on all psychomotor behaviors analyzed by gender (in favor of girls compared to boys), except for laterality. The levels of all analyzed psychomotor behaviors are directly proportional to the age of the subjects. Also, moderate positive correlations of manual dexterity (rs = 0.63 in front crawl; rs = 0.57 in backstroke) and strong correlations were identified for body scheme, laterality, static balance and buoyancy, coordination with the learning of the two styles of swimming (r or rs between 0.77 and 0.85). In conclusion, psychomotor behaviors can be predictors for learning swimming styles.

Limited availability of expensive alloying elements elevates low-alloyed steels to a unique position in the field of lightweight construction and mass production. Quenching and partitioning (Q&P) heat treatments of low-alloyed steels with exceptional property combinations are particularly promising. In this study, we characterize for the first time a new low-alloyed steel to be processed by Q&P heat treatments. In combined experimental and numerical studies, we design a novel approach that effectively combines the short cycle times of press hardening with the excellent property profiles of Q&P-treated steels. We identify appropriate transformation parameters for Q&P heat treatments by dilatometric studies and we adjust a number of reference conditions with different isothermal holding times. By means of SEM analysis and XRD measurements, we show that different fractions of retained austenite result in different mechanical properties. Initial numerical designs of the process can identify varying temperature profiles and cooling rates depending on the position in the die. The results show that the geometry of the part plays a minor role, but the die temperature is the dominant factor for successful partitioning directly in the press hardening process.

With the development of artificial intelligence technology, manipulators, as an important part of the work of intelligent robots, can replace humans to perform various complex tasks. In recent years, there have been many studies on the remote control of manipulators using various control technologies. Starting from the manufacturing materials of flexible sensors used for manipulators, this paper introduces the base materials, sensing materials, and flexible electrode materials of flexible sensors, respectively, and summarizes the performance of flexible sensors made based on the characteristics of different materials. The basic principles of dipping and coating, lithography, inkjet printing, screen printing, 3D printing and so on are introduced from the perspective of flexible sensor manufacturing process. Some different functions of sensors achieved by different structural designs, such as: tensile cracking, microchannels, etc. are also introduced. Then, from the perspective of recognition accuracy of the manipulator, two kinds of control methods based on flexible sensor by data glove control and surface EMG control are classified and introduced, and the problems existing in three aspects of flexible sensor material preparation, manufacturing process and control series design are summarized. Finally, the possible future research directions in this field are suggested.

The main purpose of the work was to determine the powder composition and properties of iron-based sinters used as a matrix in metallic diamond tools. The FeCuSnNi sinters obtained from a mixture of commercial powders were used for research. The material was subjected to milling in a ball mill and sinter have been performed with the hot-pressing technique in a graphite mold. The physical and mechanical properties of the sinters were tested. The investigations of obtained sinters concerned density, porosity, hardness, oxygen content, static tensile test and analysis of microstructure. The static tensile test was carried out with the use of a universal testing machine UTS-100. The study of the microstructure of sinters was performed using the JSM-7100F scanning electron microscope. The sinters are characterized by a high coefficient of thermal expansion and good mechanical properties. The FeCuSnNi sinter revealed a complex phase structure. Spot chemical analysis revealed the presence of Fe solution, Cu solution and the presence of iron oxides oxides. Nickel atoms were present throughout the sinter volume. The obtained results indicate that the presented material can be used as a matrix of a diamond-metal composite in diamond tools for the processing of natural stones and building materials.

They provide a clear roadmap and framework for promoting sustainability, driving innovation, and reducing the industry's environmental impact. By aligning with these initiatives, the chemical industry can enhance its competitiveness, contribute to societal well-being, and foster collaboration across sectors to achieve shared sustainability objectives.

Nickel superalloys occupy a reasonably broad niche in the industry. One of this group's most common and well-known alloys is Inconel 718. Parts from Inconel 718 are used in aerospace, energy, automotive, and some other vital industries, which creates a demand for research and improvement of the machining conditions of this alloy. This article is devoted to the systematization and generalization of the accumulated experience of machining of Inconel 718 at turning operation. The research methodology is based on the Pareto distribution. In the study, more than 50 articles devoted to turning Inconel 718 were analyzed. The tool materials, methods, and types of coating used in turning Inconel 718 were analyzed. Finite element method modeling of processing processes has been considered. The trends in the selection of cutting parameters and the geometry of the cutting tool and finite element method modeling of processing processes have been considered. Lacuna for promising future research was formulated.

The paper proves a theorem about the structure of the distribution function on which the extremum of fractionally linear functional is reached in the presence of an uncountable number of linear constraints. The problem of finding an extremal distribution function arises when determining the optimal control strategy in a class of Markov homogeneous randomized control strategies. The structure of extremal functions is described by a finite number of parameters, hence the problem is greatly simplified since it is reduced to the search for an extremum of some function.

Understanding how the public perceives various risks and hazards associated with our well-being and health is crucial for government and policymakers. The present research aimed to assess the public's perception of various risks and hazards associated with their well-being and health. The study combined two well-known approaches to risk assessment, namely, the analytical hierarchical process (AHP) and the psychometric paradigm. Seven risk attributes were chosen from the risk perception literature to evaluate 27 risks and hazard activities using a survey questionnaire developed based on the psychometric paradigm literature. The collected data was then analyzed using AHP to determine the priority weight for each risk attribute. The results showed that the most important risk attribute was voluntariness of risk, followed by chronic-catastrophic and newness of risk. Furthermore, the study found that natural hazards were ranked the highest, followed by refugee influx and fire hazards. In contrast, the mobile phone was perceived as the lowest type of risk. The findings can be used by policymakers to develop effective and sustainable risk communication strategies. Policymakers can use the research findings to create effective and sustainable risk communication strategies that help the government to inform and educate the public about potential risks, improve coordination among agencies and stakeholders, and enhance public trust in government decision-making.

The cold-pressed hempseed oil (HO) has been increasingly exploited in human diet for its excellent nutritional and healthy properties. However, it has a high content of polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFAs) and chlorophylls, which inevitably accelerate its oxidative deterioration, especially in presence of light. In this scenario, the filtration technology may ameliorate the oxidative stability of the oil, with positive effects on its nutritional quality and shelf-life. Therefore, in this study, the oxidative stability and minor compounds of non-filtered and filtered HO (NF-HO and F-HO) were monitored over 12 weeks of storage in transparent glass bottles. F-HO showed a better hydrolytic and oxidative status than NF-HO during storage. As a result, F-HO displayed also a better preservation of total MUFA and PUFA in the autoxidation process. Filtration consistently reduced chlorophylls, thus, causing a variation of the natural color of HO. Accordingly, F-HO not only revealed an increased resistance to photooxidation but was also suitable for storage in clear bottles within 12 weeks. F-HO predictably showed lower carotenoids, tocopherols, polyphenols, and squalene compared to NF-HO. However, filtration appeared to play a “protective role” toward these antioxidants, which had lower degradation rates in F-HO than NF-HO for 12 weeks. Interestingly, the element profile of HO was not affected by filtration and remained stable during the study period. Overall, this study may be of practical use to both producers and marketers of cold-pressed HO.

Hydraulic fracturing for oil-gas and geothermal reservoir stimulation is closely related to the generation and propagation of Mode I crack. Nonlinear deformation due to rock heterogeneity occurs at such crack tip, which causes the fracture process zone (FPZ) to form before the crack propagates unsteadily. However, the relationship between the FPZ characteristics and rock heterogeneity still remain elusive. We used three rock types common in reservoir for experimental investigation, and each of them includes two subtypes with different heterogeneity due to grain size or microstructural characteristics. Drawing on the experiment results, we calculated the FPZ size in each cracked chevron notched Brazilian disk, and we reproduced the formation process of the FPZ in marble by discrete element method. We showed that strong heterogeneity is favorable to large FPZ size, can enhance the ability of crack generation and complicate crack morphology. Coupling the Weibull distribution with fracture mechanics, the dependence of the FPZ size on heterogeneity degree can be theoretically explained, which suggests that inherent heterogeneity of rocks set physical foundation for formation of FPZ. These findings can improve our recognition to formation mechanism of the Mode I crack and provide useful guidelines for evaluating reservoir fracability.

The cytosolic PNGase (peptide:N-glycanase; Png1 in yeast; NGLY1/Ngly1 in human/mice), also known as peptide-N4-(N-acetyl-beta-glucosaminyl)-asparagine ami-dase, is a well-conserved deglycosylation enzyme (EC 3.5.1.52) which catalyzes the non-lysosomal hydrolysis of an N(4)-(acetyl-β-D-glucosaminyl) asparagine residue into N-acetyl-β-D-glucosaminylamine and a peptide containing an aspartate residue. This enzyme (NGLY1) plays essential roles in clearance of misfolded or unassembled gly-coproteins through a process named ER-associated degradation (ERAD). Accumulating evidence also points out that NGLY1 deficiency can cause an autosomal recessive hu-man genetic disorder associated with abnormal development and congenital disorder of deglycosylation. In addition, the loss of NGLY1 can affect multiple cellular pathways, including but not limited to NFE2L1 pathway, Creb1/Atf1-AQP pathway, BMP path-way, AMPK pathway, and SLC12A2 ion transporter, which might be the underlying reasons for a constellation of clinical phenotypes of NGLY1 deficiency. The current comprehensive review indeed uncovers the detailed NGLY1’s structure and its im-portant roles for participation in ERAD, involvement in CDDG and potential treatment for NGLY1 deficiency.

Some researchers in Taiwan argue that the current mechanism by which government subsidies are allocated for smart city demonstration projects warrants improvement. A comprehensive literature review determined that the development potential of smart cities should be prioritized in site selection for such demonstration projects. This study developed an evaluation framework on the basis of multi-criteria evaluation methods to enable the identification of suitable smart community demonstration sites. Evaluation criteria were first identified through the Delphi method. Next, the weights of each criterion were derived through the analytic hierarchy process. Furthermore, the capability of the proposed evaluation model was determined through simulation testing.

Efficient and uninterrupted energy supply plays crucial role in the quality of the modern daily life, while it is obvious that the efficiency and performance of energy supply companies has significant impact on energy supply itself, and on determining and finetuning the future roadmap of the sector. In this study, the performance and efficiency of energy supply companies with respect to productivity is investigated over a case study of an electricity distribution company in Turkey. The factors affecting the company’s performance and their corresponding weights have been determined and elicited using analytical hierarchy process (AHP) and the Fuzzy AHP methods, as two well-known multi-criteria decision-making methods, which are two well-known prominent methods widely used in the literature. The results help demonstrate that the criteria elicited to evaluate the company’s energy supply performance plan a crucial role in developing strategies, policies and action plans to achieve continuous improvement and consistent development.

The transition from a dormant to a germinating seed represents a crucial developmental switch in the life cycle of a plant. Subsequent transition from a germinating seed to an autotrophic organism also requires a robust and multi-layered control. Seed germination and seedling growth are multistep processes, involving both internal and external signals, which lead to a fine-tuning control network.

Industria 4.0 is present in smart and digital manufacturing, making manufacturing companies improve productivity, reducing delivery time and related costs. The objective of this work is to demonstrate through three integrated MPS Festo stations (Distribution, Pick \& Place and Sorting), using the Internet of Things and Google Analytics technologies, the benefits in relation to remote performance monitoring. The intended objective is achieved through the implementation of the monitoring system at the three MPS Festo stations. The data obtained through the integration of the Festo stations and their respective sensors are processed and analyzed in a cloud infrastructure, so that the main metrics are visualized and transmitted on a panel. This monitoring system improves the perception of process performance, as the main performance metrics are displayed, such as productivity, cycle time and parts produced. The cloud infrastructure allows remote viewing and monitoring of the system.

In this paper, the preparation methods of porous silicon nitride materials with controllable dielectric constant and pore structure were systematically studied. By using microwave sintering technology, porous silicon nitride materials with high closed pore ratio were prepared by adjusting the content of sintering additives and sintering process parameters, and controlling the grain boundary phase and pore structure and size. The effects of sintering conditions on the total porosity, closed porosity, pore structure and dielectric properties of materials were systematically studied.

The separation and enrichment can be targeted to enrich the rare and precious metals in fly ash and reduce the cost of leaching and recovering of fly ash. Regarding their different properties, the single-component separation was used to obtain uncompleted burned carbon, glass microbeads, minerals, and other characteristic components from the ash. Also, the mineral composition of each component was analyzed by electron microscopy. The metal minerals were mainly concentrated in the mineral components. Besides, the electron probe micro-analysis shows that the Pt content in the minerals of fly ash was significantly correlated with the metal contents of Ni and Cu. After the obtainment of the characteristics of fly ash metal enrichment, the heavy minerals with Cu, Ni, Pt, Pd, and other target metal elements were enriched by gravity separation and flotation. The enrichment coefficients of Cu, Ni, Pt, and Pd were 1.45, 1.33, 1.90 and 1.60, respectively, and the recovery rates were 77%, 81%, 97% and 88% respectively. Since the yield of heavy minerals obtained by separation was 62.24%, it indicated the physical separation method could significantly reduce the cost of leaching and recovering of fly ash metal resources.

Electron Beam Melting (EBM) is an increasingly used Additive Manufacturing (AM) technique employed by many industrial sectors, including the medical device and aerospace industries. In-process EBM monitoring for quality assurance purposes has been a popular research area. Electronic imaging has recently been investigated as one of the in-process EBM data collection methods, alongside thermal/ optical imaging techniques. Despite certain capabilities of an electronic imaging system have been investigated, experiments are yet to be carried out to benchmark one of the most important features of any imaging systems – spatial resolution. This article addresses this knowledge gap by: (1) proposing an indicator for the estimation of spatial resolution which includes the Backscattered Electrons (BSE) information depth, (2) estimating the achievable spatial resolution when electronic imaging is carried out inside an Arcam A1 EBM machine, and (3) presenting an experimental method to conduct edge resolution evaluation with the EBM machine. Analyses of experimental results indicated that the spatial resolution was of the order of 0.3mm-0.4mm when electronic imaging was carried out at room temperature. It is believed that by disseminating an analysis and experimental method to estimate and quantify spatial resolution, this study has contributed to the on-going quality assessment research in the field of in-process monitoring of the EBM process.

Electron Beam Melting (EBM) is an increasingly used Additive Manufacturing (AM) technique employed by many industrial sectors, including the medical device and aerospace industries. The application of this technology is, however, challenged by the lack of process monitoring and control system that underpins process repeatability and part quality reproducibility. An electronic imaging system prototype has been developed to serve as an EBM monitoring technique, the capabilities of which have been verified at room temperature and at 320+10°C. Nevertheless, in order to fully assess the applicability of this technique, the image quality needs to be investigated at a range of elevated temperatures to fully understand the influence of thermal noise due to heat. In this paper, electronic imaging pilot trials at elevated temperatures, ranging from room temperature to , were carried out. Image quality measure Q of the digital electron images was evaluated, and the influence of temperature was investigated. In this study, raw electronic images generated at higher temperatures had greater Q values, i.e. better global image quality. It has been demonstrated that, for temperatures between , the influence of temperature on electronic image quality was not adversely affecting the visual clarity of image features. It is envisaged that the prototype has significant potential to contribute to in-process EBM monitoring in many manufacturing sectors.

Ultra Low Temperature Process (ULTP) involve the material cooling in temperatures close to the liquid nitrogen (-196 °C), which is different from the cold-treatment (CT) made in temperatures close to -80 °C. ULTP treatments could raise the tool steel wear resistance through microstructural change that occurs on the material, enhancing, that way, the tools and dies lifetime. To investigate the impact on the wear resistance of tool steel AISI D2, micro abrasive wear tests were carried out and an analysis based on the Archard’s law was considered, evaluating specimen mass loss by laser interferometry. Micro hardness tests, X-ray diffractometry, scanning and optical microscopy and quantitative evaluation of carbides with image analysis were carried out aiming material characterization. Micro-scale abrasion tests shown a wear coefficient k about 1.73E-7 e 2.61E-7 mm3/N.mm to the specimens that received the ULTP phase and 3.12E-7 mm3/N.mm to the conventional thermal treatment, representing a wear resistance increase of 16.3 – 44.5% to cryogenically treated specimens. The results demonstrated a micro hardness improvement, ranging from 0.9 - 4.7% for the cryogenically treated specimens, when compared to the bulk material. This effect is related, mainly, to the retained austenite transformation in martensite and to the increase in the amount of fine secondary carbides dispersed in the martensitic matrixes of cryogenically treated specimens with ULTP. The best wear resistance improvements, on micro-scale, were achieved when the ULTP step is performed immediately after tempering.

According to the characteristics of the sustainable development of subway traffic, the establishment process of an evaluation index system is determined, and the evaluation method and basis are defined. The evaluation index system is established from the aspects of subway traffic sustainability, economic sustainability and urban coordination sustainability. The comprehensive evaluation method of the analytic hierarchy process (AHP) model is used to calculate the weights of comprehensive evaluation indexes at each level. Finally, the sustainable development model of Shijiazhuang subway traffic is evaluated. The results show that the proposed evaluation system and model reflect the degree of sustainable development of subway traffic and can be used for reference in the evaluation of regional subway traffic sustainable development.

This paper investigates the cooperative anti-jamming distributed channel selection problem in UAV communication networks. Considering the existence of malicious jamming and co-channel interference, a location-aware cooperative anti-jamming scheme is designed for the purpose of maximizing the users' utilities. Users in the UAV group cooperate with each other via location information sharing. When the received interference energy is lower than mutual interference threshold, users conduct channel selection strategies independently. Otherwise, users take joint actions with a cooperative anti-jamming pattern under the impact of mutual interference. Aimed at the independent anti-jamming channel selection problem under no mutual interference, a Markov Decision Process framework is introduced, whereas for the cooperative anti-jamming channel selection case under the influence of co-channel mutual interference, a Markov game framework is employed. Furthermore, motivated by reinforcement learning with a ``Cooperation-Decision-Feedback-Adjustment" idea, we design a location-aware cooperative anti-jamming distributed channel selection algorithm (LCADCSA) to obtain the optimal anti-jamming channel strategies for the users with a distributed way. In addition, the channel switching cost and cooperation cost, which have great impact on the users' utilities, are introduced. Finally, simulation results show that the proposed algorithm converges to a stable solution with which the UAV group can avoid the malicious jamming as well as co-channel interference effectively.

In a wireless network, locations of base stations (BSs)/access points (APs)/sensor nodes can be modeled based on stochastic processes, e.g., a Poisson point process (PPP) or a deterministic pattern planned ahead by providers. While deterministic deployment does not provide tractable interference analysis in general, PPP yields tractable analysis for interference. However, PPP allows APs to be deployed very close to each other and gives pessimistic results compared to the field measurements. In this study, in order to address this issue, Lloyd’s algorithm, which functions as a bridge between random and structural APs deployments, is investigated for analyzing coverage probability in a network. The link distance distribution is modeled as a mixture of Weibull distributions and its parameters are obtained by using the expectation-maximization (EM) algorithm for each iteration of Lloyd’s algorithm. The link distance distribution is further utilized for calculating the coverage probability approximately by exploiting the tractability of PPP.

The planning of rural land depends to a large extent on the agrarian and forestry development model agreed upon for it. Within the framework of agrarian multifunctionality, to evaluate different development alternatives and their effect on territorial planning, its multiple dimensions must be considered as well as the interests and needs of the stakeholders. This work thus addresses the comprehensive evaluation of development alternatives for the rural area of a municipality of the Basque Country (Spain) through the implementation of a multi-criteria evaluation method with social participation. The results show, firstly, the existence of trade-offs between the functions to be promoted in the various development models evaluated. Secondly, the results indicate the need to reverse recent trends in the sector and the convenience of moving towards an agro-livestock model of greater ecological and local character, independently of the followed forest model. In fact, the evaluation carried out also reveals, thirdly, the existence of more or less latent conflicts, in particular with regards to forest policy.

Censoring occurs when complete follow-up time information is unavailable for patients enrolled in a clinical study. The process is considered to be informative (nonignorable) if the likelihood function for the censoring model cannot be partitioned into a set of response parameters that are independent of the censoring parameters. In such cases, estimated survival time probabilities may be biased, prompting the need for special statistical methods to remedy the situation. The problem is especially salient when censoring is skewed toward the early phase of a study. In this paper, we describe a method to impute censored follow-up times using a counting process method.

Syntrophic acetate oxidation operates close to the thermodynamic equilibrium and very little is known about the participating organisms and their metabolism. Clostridium ultunense is one of the most abundant syntrophic acetate-oxidising bacteria (SAOB) found in engineered biogas processes operating with high ammonia concentrations. It has been proven to oxidise acetate in cooperation with hydrogenotrophic methanogens. There is evidence that the Wood-Ljungdahl (WL) pathway plays an important role in acetate oxidation. In this study we analysed the physiological and metabolic capacities of C. ultunense on genome scale and conducted a comparative study of all known characterised SAOB, namely Syntrophaceticus schinkii, Thermacetogenium phaeum, Tepidanaerobacter acetatoxydans and Pseudothermotoga lettingae. The results clearly indicated physiological robustness beneficial for anaerobic digestion environments and revealed unexpected metabolic diversity with respect to acetate oxidation and energy conservation systems., Unlike S. schinkii and Th. phaeum, C. ultunense clearly does not employ the oxidative WL pathway for acetate oxidation, as its genome (and that of P. lettingae) lack important key genes. In both those species, a proton motive force is likely formed by chemical protons involving putative electron-bifurcating [Fe-Fe] hydrogenases rather than proton pumps. No genes encoding a respiratory Ech hydrogenase, as involved in energy conservation in Th. phaeum and S. schinkii, were identified in C. ultunense and P. lettingae. Moreover, two respiratory complexes sharing similarities to the proton-translocating ferredoxin:NAD⁺ oxidoreductase (Rnf) and the Na+ pumping NADH:quinone hydrogenase (NQR) were predicted. These might form a respiratory chain involved in reduction of electron acceptors other than protons. However, involvement of these complexes in acetate oxidation in C. ultunense and P. lettingae needs further study. This genome-based comparison provides a solid platform for future meta-proteomics and meta-transcriptomics studies and for metabolic engineering, control and monitoring of SAOB.

This paper presents an experimental scenario aimed at bridging the gap between the cities we have and the cities we need, not only in the 21^st century but also beyond, using the integrated tools of development control and holistic land development model to achieve a planner-led vision of city sustainability. Due to scathing criticisms against the development control system, the paper contends that planners as development approving officers and public interest specialists are better positioned than allied professionals to increase city sustainability through a holistic development process that benefits from the concept of strong sustainability posited by ecological economists. The paper adopts a seven-stage, 56-cell land development matrix (model) to simulate the development of the typical high-rise residential condominium in Ontario, supported with secondary data and the author’s ground experience as a planner and realtor with condominium customer service experience across Toronto and Mississauga cities between 2008 and 2017. Findings reveal that planners can seize the opportunity of being leaders of the development team to synergize the risks and value creation in land development that are key drivers of strong sustainability. The paper suggests some policy implications for averting disasters like fire hazards and terror attacks in high-rise residential buildings.

Considering the important demand of fresh water and its scarce availability, water desalination is an interesting technology, producing about 44 Mm³/year worldwide, but, in general the most common desalination techniques are highly energy demanding. Freezing-Melting (F/M) desalination uses just up to 70% less thermal energy, but is the least used process mainly, due to the difficulty of the salt separation. This study proposes a model able to analyses the thermodynamic potential that allows the salt diffusion during the F/M process, using an aqueous solution of sodium chloride. This should allow to obtain a sensitive analysis of the process to promote the separation between the high concentration brine and the ice with liquid separation by physical process. The unidimensional model is based on the evolution of both processes: thermal and mass diffusions, depending on temperature and saline gradients, predicting whether the salt will remain inside the ice or not. Thus, the thermal potential is adjusted to frozen only when the salt has been "pushed" towards the brine. Mostly models have base their results on the assumption of a “certain value of saline concentration of the liquid fraction”, value in which there is great disagreement. In this paper the calculations are based on the concentration in the solid-liquid interface, which has been extensively studied and there is a coincidence in those results, being the main advantage of the proposed model.

There is a growing interest in fibers supporting optoelectrical properties for textile and wearable display applications. Solution-processed electroluminescent (EL) material systems can be continuously deposited onto fiber or yarn substrates in a roll-to-roll process, making it easy to scale manufacturing. It is important to have precise control over layer deposition to achieve uniform and reliable light emission from these EL fibers. Slot-die coating offers this control and increases the rate of EL fiber production. Here, we report a highly adaptable, cost-effective 3D printing model for developing slot dies used in automatic coating systems. The resulting slot-die coating system enables rapid, reliable production of alternating current powder-based EL (ACPEL) fibers and can be adapted for many material systems. The benefits of this system over dip-coating for roll-to-roll production of EL fibers are demonstrated in this work.

In this paper, a method is developed for presenting a novel virtual torque sensor based on precise model and position measurements avoids the need of traditional strain gauges and amplifiers. More specifically, the harmonic drive compliance model and the Gaussian process regression (GPR) technique are used together to achieve virtual torque sensor measurement. While the harmonic drive compliance model provides the analytic part, the Gaussian process regression method is used to reconstruct the unmolded part based on motor-side and link-side joint angles as well as motor current. After an automatic offline calibration, the method allows for a lean online implementation. The virtual torque sensor measurement is compared with measurements of a commercial torque sensor, and the results have attested the effectiveness of the proposed method.

It is a significant task to assess the safety of the aging offshore jacket platform in order to extend the service life. This paper analyzes the multiple risk factors of an aging jacket platform in Bohai Bay, China and builds the safety evaluation index system, which includes three levels, namely, the target layer, the first-grade indicators layer and the second-grade indicators layer. The target layer consists of three first-grade indicators: ocean environments, structure status, and human and organizational factors. Each first-grade indicator is divided into three second-grade indicators. The weight of each indicator is calculated by analytic hierarchy process to weaken subjective effect. Grey clustering method is applied to estimate the failure risk of the platform in Bohai Bay qualitatively and quantitatively. The assessment standard is divided into five grades and the whitening function of each grey cluster is determined by the assessment scheme. The grey evaluation weight vector of each second-grade indicator is calculated by the table dispatching method. Through layer by layer calculation, the grey assessment value of the target layer is finally estimated by making the grey assessment weight vector single-value and the grey grade is determined according to the maximum principle. The evaluation results show quantitatively that the failure risk grade of the jacket platform in Bohai Bay is medium and the safety assessment method is reasonable and feasible.

Selective Laser Melting (SLM) is a complex additive manufacturing process that requires precise control of thermal conditions to ensure the quality and reliability of produced parts. The main challenge lies in accurately predicting the thermal behavior during SLM, which is influenced by rapid heating and cooling cycles, high thermal gradients, and temperature-dependent material properties. This study addresses this challenge by developing a comprehensive thermal model for the SLM process of 316L stainless steel (316L SS) and Ti6Al4V titanium alloy using Finite Element Analysis (FEA) in Abaqus. The model incorporates temperature-dependent material properties and phase transformations to simulate the temperature distribution and thermal history during SLM. To validate the model, experimental studies were conducted using custom-designed argon chambers and stainless-steel powder. The experimental results showed strong agreement with the simulated melt pool dimensions and thermal histories, confirming the model's accuracy. Key findings include the model's ability to predict the effects of varying processing parameters such as laser power and scanning speed on thermal behavior and melt pool characteristics. This validated model serves as a valuable tool for optimizing SLM processing parameters, enhancing the un-derstanding of thermal phenomena in additive manufacturing, and improving the quality and reliability of manufactured parts. Due to budget constraints, experimental validation was initially performed only on 316L SS. This approach allowed for the tuning of the finite element model before extending its application to Ti6Al4V. The successful validation with 316L SS provides a solid foundation for applying the model to more challenging materials like Ti6Al4V, ensuring cost-effectiveness and safety in initial experimentation. The novelty of this research lies in its detailed and validated thermal model, which bridges the gap between experimental and numerical approaches in SLM. By accurately simulating and validating the thermal processes involved in SLM, this study contributes to the advancement of additive manufacturing technologies and offers practical insights for industrial applications.

In the realm of molecular science, intricate relationships between molecular structures and their biomedical and pharmacological characteristics have been revealed through empirical experiments. This exploration hinges on the application of numerical descriptors, known as Topological Indices, which illuminate the inherent properties of diverse molecular structures. With particular significance in the medical and pharmaceutical domains, these indices facilitate the prediction of biological features for new chemical compounds and drugs by quantifying weighted entropies. In the context of this paper, we delve into the concept of graph entropy, weaving it intricately with the topological properties of the crystalline framework of the copper oxide molecule, denoted as Cu\textsubscript{2}O$[i,j,t]$. Our primary objective is to unravel the mathematical symphony underlying the structural intricacies of Cu\textsubscript{2}O$[i,j,t]$ and to imbue it with the conceptual essence of entropy. We accomplish this through the computation of entropy, leveraging various topological indices, including weight. In addition to our analytical journey, we present a graphical comparison that juxtaposes the computed indices and entropies, shedding light on the interplay between mathematical analysis and the structural elegance of Cu\textsubscript{2}O$[i,j,t]$. This endeavor contributes to a deeper understanding of the material's multifaceted applications, spanning domains from chemical sensors to solar cells, photocatalysis, and batteries, where Cu\textsubscript{2}O's crystallographic structure plays a pivotal role.

Since the seminal work of Kolmogorov, probability theory has been based on measure theory, where the central components are so-called probability measures, defined as measures with total mass equal to 1. In Kolmogorov’s theory, a probability measure is used to model an experiment with a single outcome that will belong to exactly one out of several disjoint sets. In this paper, we present a different basic model where an experiment results in a multiset, i.e. for each of the disjoint sets we get the number of observations in the set. This new framework is consistent with Kolmogorov’s theory, but the theory focuses on expected values rather than probabilities. We present examples from testing Goodness-of-Fit, Bayesian statistics, and quantum theory, where the shifted focus gives new insight or better performance. We also provide several new theorems that address some problems related to the change in focus.

Urban areas are centres of business and innovation. Freight transport is indispensable for the proper functioning of any modern urban society. Urban areas can’t function without an appropriate freight transport system, due to the need to replenish stocks of food and other goods in retail shops. The complexity of the decisions concerning implementation of measures to improve the movement of goods in the city requires tools designed to support this process. The purpose of this article is to introduce the possibility of applying the Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP) as well as the Decision Making Trial and Evaluation Laboratory Method (DEMATEL) in choosing a set of measures and in analysing in the field of distribution logistics, which will help to solve the delivery problems and streamline the cargo flows in Szczecin, in the context of sustainable development.

Against the backdrop of the global goal of "carbon neutrality", the promotion of electric vehicles (EVs) is of great significance in reducing the use of fossil fuels and vehicle emissions, and in promoting the transformation of the automotive industry into a green and low-carbon direction. The wide application of electric vehicles not only reduces the dependence on non-renewable resources such as oil, but also significantly reduces carbon emissions in the transport sector, thus making an important contribution to the global response to climate change. In electric vehicles, ternary lithium batteries (NCM) and lithium iron phosphate batteries (LFP) are two widely used batteries. This paper investigates the resource and environmental impacts of 1KW ternary lithium batteries and lithium iron phosphate batteries during the battery production process based on the Life Cycle Assessment model. The importance of clean energy in reducing environmental pollution and global warming potential is revealed by introducing four different power generation types and the regional power generation structure in China into the power battery production process. The results of the study show that lithium iron phosphate batteries batteries have a clear advantage in terms of environmental friendliness. While Nickel Cobalt Manganese batteries are more advantageous in terms of performance. Environmental pollution during battery production can be effectively reduced through the comprehensive use of clean energy and optimization of the production process. Specific measures include improving the energy efficiency of the production process, adopting renewable energy for power supply, and reducing the use of hazardous substances. Through these measures, the battery industry can develop in a greener and more sustainable direction.

This review investigates the integration of machine learning (ML) and blockchain technology, highlighting their combined potential to drive transformation across sectors such as healthcare, finance, and supply chain management. ML offers data-driven insights through predictive analytics, automation, and intelligent decision-making, while blockchain provides a secure, decentralized framework with transparency and immutability. Together, these technologies present solutions to critical challenges, including fraud detection, operational inefficiencies, and data privacy, promising significant advancements across various industries. ML enhances diagnostics and treatment personalization in healthcare, while blockchain protects sensitive medical data. In finance, blockchain fosters transparency within decentralized finance (DeFi), while ML strengthens fraud detection and trading strategies. In supply chain management, blockchain ensures traceability, while ML optimizes logistics and demand forecasting. Despite their synergies, integrating ML with blockchain faces challenges, notably in scalability, computational efficiency, and privacy. This review critically examines recent advancements, practical use cases, and barriers to adoption, synthesizing strategies that can address these challenges to unlock the transformative potential of these emerging technologies.

Background: While the prevalence of obesity and its negative effects on graft steatosis in liver transplantation are well recognized, the impact of obesity in the absence of hepatic steatosis, fibrosis, and inflammation in deceased donor livers remains unclear. This knowledge gap may affect the decision to adopt a transplant strategy and influence the following outcomes. Methods: A donor population-based cohort study was performed on 35,529 donors who received liver biopsy from 1987 to 2024. Donor BMI was categorized and assessed for its association with liver conditions, including macrovesicular steatosis, microvesicular steatosis, liver fibrosis, and portal infiltrates. Multivariable logistic regression and restricted cubic spline (RCS) regression models were employed to explore both linear and nonlinear relationships between BMI and the specified liver conditions. Results: In a cohort of 35,529 donors, donor livers from higher BMI groups exhibited higher percentages of macro-steatosis, micro-steatosis,advanced fibrosis and portal infiltrate.Logistic regression indicated obesity as an independent predictor of liver histology assessment: for higher risk with moderate-servere macro-steatosis (OR 2.29, 95% CI 2.11–2.49, p < 0.001),moderate-servere micro-steatosis (OR 1.71, 95% CI 1.57–1.87, p < 0.001), portal infiltrate (OR 1.37, 95% CI 1.3–1.45, p < 0.001) and advanced fibrosis (OR 1.04, 95% CI 0.94–1.14, p < 0.001). Restricted cubic spline regression depicted J-shaped with moderate-servere macro-steatosis and portal infiltrate,a U-shaped advanced fibrosis, and a upside down U-shaped with moderate-servere micro-steatosis,P for for nonlinearity <0.0001),respectively. Subgroup analyses identified interactions with factors such as gender, hypertension, and hepatitis C, highlighting BMI’s complex influence on liver histology and reinforcing its role in liver donor evaluation. Conclusion: This donor population-based cohort study found a different association pattern between donor BMI and liver biopsy outcomes,integrating BMI into donor liver assessments could enhance decision-making during transplantation, potentially reducing organ discard rates and improving transplant success by identifying high-risk organs earlier.

Cereals are essential for global food consumption, providing half of the world’s calorie intake and ranking as the top traded agricultural commodity. By 2032, 41% of cereals are expected to be consumed directly by humans, with 37% used as animal feed. As key sources of carbohydrates, protein, minerals, vitamins, and fiber, cereals deliver balanced nutrients for humans and livestock. Rice and wheat are the most widely consumed, yet over 3 billion people still suffer from micronutrient deficiencies, particularly iron, zinc, and vitamin A, leading to widespread malnutrition affecting over 2 billion globally. Nutrient deficiencies contribute significantly to childhood mortality, with undernutrition causing 45% of deaths in children under five. Cereals naturally contain essential micronutrients, including iron, zinc, and B vitamins, along with fiber that supports cardiovascular health and reduces cancer risks. While the growth rate of cereal consumption is slowing, it remains steady, especially in developing countries, where cereals provide 56% of daily caloric intake. To address malnutrition, biofortifying cereals to enhance iron, zinc, and vitamin A content could be transformative. This review highlights the nutritional importance of cereals, the need for balanced diets, and how biofortification and genetic editing can combat global malnutrition.

Carob pulp is a valuable source of cellulose-rich fraction (CRF) for many food applications. This study aimed to obtain and characterize a CRF derived from carob pulp waste, after sugar removal, and to evaluate its potential use in the 3D printing of cellulose-rich foods. Thus, extraction of the CRF present in carob pulp (by obtaining the alcohol-insoluble residue) was carried out, accounting for nearly 45 % dm (dry matter) of this by-product. The CRF contained about 24 % dm of cellulose. The functional properties (swelling capacity, water retention and fat adsorption) related to this fraction were determined, which showed a value of 5.9 mL/g of CRF, 4.0 and 6.5 g/g of CRF, respectively. Different gels were formulated with a total solids content of 15 % wm (wet matter), using potato peel flour as a base and partially substituting with CRF (0-8 % wm). The cellulose-based gels were characterized in terms of viscosity, water distribution (low-field NMR), and printability, while the 3D-printed samples were assessed for their textural properties. As the percentage of added CRF increased, the viscosity decreased while the water retention increased. Printability improved when small proportions of CRF (2-4%) were used, while deteriorated for higher percentages (6-8 %). The textural properties (hardness, adhesiveness, cohesiveness, and gumminess) showed significant changes caused by the addition of CRF, with gels containing 3-4 % CRF exhibiting the most suitable printing values. In summary, CRF extracted from carob pulp waste can be used as an ingredient in the 3D printing of novel cellulose-rich foods, reducing food waste within the framework of the circular economy.

Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) technology has recently experienced increasing development, leading to the creation of a wide variety of autonomous solutions. In this paper a guidance strategy for straight and orbital path following of fixed-wing small UAV is presented. The proposed guidance algorithm is based on a reference Vector Field as desired 16course for the UAV to follow. A Sliding Mode approach is implemented to improve robustness and effectiveness andasymptotic convergence of the aircraft to the desired trajectory in presence of constant wind disturbances is proved according to Lyapunov. The algorithm exploits the banking dynamics and generates reference signals for the inner loop ailerons control. A MATLAB&amp;Simulink® simulation environment is used to verify performance and robustness of the compared guidance algorithms. This high-fidelity model considers the six Degrees-of-Freedom (DoF) whole flight dynamics of the UAV and it is based on experimental flight test data to implement the aerodynamic behavior.

There is considerable interest in cellulose solubilisation in deep eutectic solvents (DESs) as a new emerging class of green solvents. However, the experimental data have indicated that cellulose is almost insoluble in most of DESs. Carboxylic acid-based DESs are a category of DESs that exhibit a modest ability to solubilise cellulose. However, the molecular-level reasons why carboxylic acid-based DESs can dissolve cellulose are unknown. Such information is crucial in developing DESs with enhanced cellulose solubilising ability. Here, we use molecular dynamics simulations to explore the molecular mechanism of cellulose solubility in oxaline (choline chloride/oxalic acid) as a typical carboxylic acid-based DES and cellulose insolubility in reline (choline chloride/urea) as the most famous DES. It was revealed that oxalic acid possesses a greater ability to weaken the interaction between the chloride anion and the choline cation when compared to other urea in reline. Self-interactions of hydrogen bond donors are also highly attenuated in oxaline than in reline. These results explain the observed more significant melting point depression of oxaline in comparison to reline. We depict a molecular mechanism indicating how oxalic acid synergically works with chloride ion to dissolve cellulose and why urea cannot play such a role in reline.

One of the foundations of Smart Cities is mobility. To manage the efficiency of urban mobility, continuous recording of traffic flows is essential. The road traffic parameters in the cross section of the road network can be registered with the use of various measurement technologies. This is indirectly due to the complexity of the phenomenon of vehicle traffic and the disturbances in physical quantities generated as a result of it. Traffic data carries: sound waves, vibrations, optical waves and other media. The characteristics of these physical media, properly recorded and mathematically transformed, may constitute a superposition of the position of individual vehicles moving in the traffic flow. Moreover, these waves interfere with each other depending on the observed parameters of the movement of individual vehicles at different places of the network. In this context, information obtained from various media is the overall view of traffic. This article focuses on acquiring infrared traffic data. The movement of each vehicle, regardless of its type, is inextricably linked to infrared radiation, the distribution changing as a function of the road network. Each vehicle is a source of heat and therefore also emits infrared radiation (it heats up gradually while driving, with small temperature fluctuations). Therefore, the temperature of a moving vehicle is generally different from the background (road network) temperature. This article presents a successful attempt to analyze the infrared radiation accompanying road traffic in a selected cross section of the road. In order to register infrared radiation in the traffic stream, a prototype of a measuring system consisting of a pyrometer commonly used in thermometers (cost about 10 € and less) was used. Measurements of infrared radiation of the vehicle stream obtained in this way were compared with the measurement data of handheld traffic recorders, the so-called mechanical vehicle counters. The comparison of the results from both recording methods allows for the formulation of further research hypotheses towards extended research in the field of infrared radiation of the traffic stream. In this regard, it is important to research with various disturbances in the measurements that come from other heat sources located in the road network and its immediate vicinity. This study is important from the point of view of smart cities and C-ITS systems (mainly V2I communication). The registration of data describing the traffic flow with the use of a single pyrometer, instead of an expensive IR camera, is a cheap alternative in modern city information networks. This allows you to create intelligent sensor networks using connectivity based on, e.g., mesh networks. Such activities are possible with costs for one measuring point reduced by one or two orders of magnitude compared to the costs incurred with the use of IR cameras ( € 1000, € 10,000 and more). In the current situation of the energy crisis, the search for innovative solutions with lower energy demand is very important in the Smart City policy.

Background/Objectives: Stroke patients generally have balance and gait dysfunction due to decreased range of motion (ROM) and muscle strength of the ankle joint. A therapist can apply a floss band to enhance ROM, pain control, jumping performance, strength, myofascial release, and recovery from fatigue. This study compared the immediate effects of floss band application on ankle ROM, balance, and gait ability in stroke patients.; Methods: This study randomized 40 chronic stroke patients to either the floss (n = 20) or sham (n = 20) band group. Outcome measures were ankle ROM, weight bearing lunge test (WBLT) performance, standing balance, and gait ability. Outcome measures were assessed at baseline and immediately after applying the floss or placebo band.; Results: There were significant improvements in dorsiflexion (DF), WBLT, static balance, and foot strike in those who used the floss band compared to the sham group (all p &lt; 0.05).; Conclusions: The floss band improved ankle DF, balance, and gait, indicating that it is a feasible therapeutic method for improving ankle DF, balance, and gait in chronic stroke patients.

In the aerospace industry, composites based on polymer or metal matrices and fillers made from granite, marble, lime and other rock powders are used. These fillers are similar in composition to cement and glass used for immobilization of radioactive waste (RW). In this paper, it is proposed to grind cemented or vitrified radioactive waste into micro or nanopowder and introduce this powder into a polymer or metal matrix to obtain a composite with improved physical characteristics, which can be used as a structural element or equipment element of automated space stations, satellites or rovers. In this way, it is possible to dispose of a huge amount of accumulated radioactive waste into space as a payload.

Studies on integrating Spiking Neural Networks (SNNs) with the Transformer architecture holds promise for enabling models to achieve ultra-low energy consumption while possessing the performance of the Transformer architecture. Currently, studies on ANN-to-SNN conversion of integrating Spiking Neural Networks (SNNs) with the Transformer architecture mainly focuses on simple activation functions in MLPs, and has not yet addressed the mismatch between the Softmax activation function in the self-attention mechanism and the computation rules of SNNs. Consequently, the ANN-to-SNN conversion efforts have consistently failed to make the Transformer architecture directly applicable to SNNs. To address this challenge, we propose the Spiking-Softmax method, which integrates Spiking Exponential Neuron (SI-exp) and Spiking Collaboration Normalized Neuron (SI-norm). The Spiking-Softmax method accurately simulates the Softmax activation function with only 12 time steps. Building upon this, we propose the Spike Integrated Transformer conversion (SIT-conversion) method, which enables the conversion of the Transformer architecture to SNNs. The SNNs generated by the SIT-conversion of Transformer models of various sizes achieve accuracy nearly identical to their ANNs counterparts, achieving nearly lossless and ultra-low-latency ANN-to-SNN conversion. This work represents the first implementation of simulating the Softmax activation function and fully converting the Transformer architecture into SNNs through spike firing.

The urinary tract, once considered sterile, is now understood to host a diverse community of microorganisms known as the urinary microbiome. This microbiome, which is made up of bacteria, fungi, and viruses, is important for preserving urological health and has been linked to the pathogenesis of a number of urinary tract disorders. In this review, we offer a consolidated overview of the urinary tract bacterial population, including its composition, diversity, and factors influencing its dynamics. We explore its involvement in urinary tract infections, interstitial cystitis/bladder pain syndrome (IC/BPS), urinary stone formation, and other urological diseases, highlighting the importance of understanding its correlation with disease pathology for the development of therapeutic strategies. Additionally, we explore its role in autoimmune diseases of the urinary tract and the potential of leveraging the urinary microbiome for targeted interventions in the treatment of urinary tract infections. Longitudinal studies are emphasized for their ability to elucidate microbial dynamics, establish causality, and ensure consistency and reproducibility across research endeavors. These efforts underscore the necessity for continued research and multidisciplinary collaborations in this rapidly evolving field to advance our understanding and therapeutic strategies for urinary tract disorders.

Background. Fibromyalgia (FM) is a complex condition marked by increased pain sensitivity and central sensitization. Studies often explore the link between FM and depressive-anxiety disorders, but few focus on dysthymia or persistent depressive disorder (PDD), which can be more disabling than major depression (MD). Objective. To identify clinical scales and subscales of the Personality Assessment Inventory (PAI) that effectively describe and differentiate the psychological profile of PDD, with or without comorbid MD, in FM patients with PDD previously dimensionally classified by the Millon Clinical Multiaxial Inventory III (MCMI-III). Method. An observational, cross-sectional study was conducted with 66 women (mean age 49.18, SD=8.09) from Hospital del Mar. The PAI, the MCMI-III, and Fibromyalgia Impact Questionnaire (FIQ) were used to assess the sample. Results. The PAI showed strong discriminative ability in detecting PDD, characterized by high scores in cognitive and emotional depression, and low scores in identity alteration, dominance, and grandeur. High scores in cognitive, emotional, and physiological depression, identity alteration, cognitive anxiety, and suicidal ideation, along with low scores in dominance and grandeur, were needed to detect MD with PDD. Discriminant analysis could differentiate 69.6-73.9% of the PDD group and 84.6% of the PDD+MD group. Group comparisons showed that 72.2% of patients with an affective disorder by PAI were correctly classified in the MCMI-III affective disorder group, and 70% without affective disorder were correctly classified. Conclusions. The PAI effectively identifies PDD in FM patients and detects concurrent MD episodes, aiding in better prognostic and therapeutic guidance.

In the domain of software engineering, the accurate and effective classification of requirements is of paramount importance. Proper classifications of these requirements enable developers to create robust and error-free software solution. Traditional methods of user requirements classification face the issue of the reliance on manual processes, which are time-consuming, labor-intensive, and prone to human error. The limitations of traditional methods underscore the need for more automated, scalable, and robust approaches to user requirements classification in order to meet the demands of modern software development practices. To improve the classification process, we employed a Deep Learning (DL) methodology termed the Bidirectional Long Short-Term Memory (Bi-LSTM) model to conduct feature extraction, after which we merged these feature vectors into ML classifiers. Our research methodology is structured around a five-step process. Initially, the textual input is tokenized and converted to lowercase. Subsequently, we eliminate all punctuation. The pre-processed text is then subjected to a Bi-LSTM (Bidirectional Long Short-Term Memory) model for feature vector extraction. After that, this feature vector is fed into different classifiers such as Medium KNN, Cubic KNN, Linear SVM, Quadratic SVM, and Cubic SVM and obtained an accuracy of around 99.60% to 99.80% on a publicly available dataset of requirements.

Galactic rotation curve was formulated before the Sgr A* had been confirmed. The action of the Sgr A* on the rotation curve has not been considered. Now, it was observed that the fastest stars in the Milky Way is in the distance less than 0.5pc from the Sgr A*. It is contradicted with the current galactic rotation curve in which the orbital velocity near the center of the galaxy is the smallest. And, because of the advance of technology, it was observed that the circular velocity curve of the Milky Way from 5 to 30 kpc is with a significantly faster decline (Keplerian decline) compared to the inner parts. It is contradicted with the current curve in which the out parts could be larger or no decline. And, it was observed that the fast galaxy bar continue challenge the standard cosmology. For the reasons, we present an improved galactic rotation curve.

As a branch of regional innovation theories, social filter theory fundamentally reveals the reasons for the geography of innovation in different countries and regions. However, compared with some other regional innovation theories, social filter theory has been as silent as a sleeping beauty and hasn’t been fully developed. For enriching and developing social filter theory, this article systematically traces the source and comments on four aspects: the concept of social filter, the construction and measurement of indicators of social filter, the mechanism and empirical re-search of social filter affecting regional innovation and innovation transformation. Until recently regional innovation theories primarily focused on the superficial description of the phenomenon of innovation, but lack of attention to the local social filter condition of innovation generation and innovation transformation, which are the pre-condition of constructing mature innovation system. Therefore, additional efforts are still required to fill the current knowledge gap from the recom-mended directions in the article.

Background: Intestinal helminthiases and schistosomiasis are among the neglected tropical diseases targeted by the World Health Organization (WHO) for elimination as a public health issue by 2030. For this, it is important to determine their distribution and predicting factors, after a decade of mass deworming campaigns. In particular, such information is scarce among pre-school aged children who have not been the target for epidemiological studies and schistosomiasis deworming activities. This cross-sectional study and secondary data analysis focused on preschool-aged children and was aimed to determine the prevalence of intestinal helminthiases (Ascaris, ankylostoma, trichirus trichura, taenia) and Schistosomiasis, and identify the factors associated with them in Rwanda. Methods: Data from 4,675 preschool-aged children randomly selected from 17 districts endemic to Schistosoma mansoni were analyzed. Parasitological assessment was performed using the Kato Katz technique. Having at least one intestinal helminthiasis or schistosomiasis case was considered a positive outcome. A structured questionnaire for childcare guardians, literature, and GIS were used to collect information regarding environmental factors. Data were aggregated at village level to calculate village prevalence used in depicting the distribution of intestinal helminthiases and schistosomiasis. Descriptive analysis was performed, and prevalence was assessed as a measure of frequency. The chi-square test was used for bivariate analysis whereas logistic regression was used for multivariable analysis. The confidence level was set at 95%, and the decision was made based on the P-value. Odds ratios (ORs) were assessed as a measure of association. STATA 15 and ArcGIS software were used in this study. Results: The prevalence of intestinal helminthiases and schistosomiasis among preschool-aged children was 20.3%. Ascaris was the most prevalent parasite in this study (15%). Being older than 24 months, having self-employed parents, residence, fetching water into the lake or water body, land cover, clay soil, and high LST are predictors of intestinal helminthiases and schistosomiasis among preschool-aged children in Rwanda. Conclusion: The prevalence of 20.3% is moderate and in the march towards the elimination of these parasitic infections, deworming activities should be coupled with water supply, reinforcement of the use of Early Child Development (ECD), relocating people living in proximity of wetlands and water bodies, and health education are key interventions in preventing preschool-aged children to get intestinal helminthiases and Schistosomiasis.

This paper presents a comparative bibliometric analysis of digital transformation in small and medium enterprises, focusing on the before and after the Covid-19 pandemic. Using data from the Scopus database, the study analyzes 1,566 articles published between 2001 and 2024, focusing on pre-COVID (2001–2018) and post-COVID (2019–2024). Bibliometric tools, including VOSviewer and Biblioshiny, were employed to conduct performance analysis, scientific mapping, and co-occurrence analyses of keywords and co-authorship. The results demonstrate a substantial increase in research output post-COVID, particularly in areas such as the Internet of Things (IoT), cloud computing, and e-commerce. These technologies have become vital for the survival and competitiveness of SMEs in the post-pandemic world. However, the study also highlights significant challenges, including limited financial resources and a lack of skilled personnel, which have hindered SMEs' ability to implement digital transformation fully. Government intervention, through financial assistance and strategic support, is identified as crucial in enabling SMEs to overcome these obstacles and successfully navigate the digital era. This analysis contributes to the growing body of literature on SMEs' digitalization, offering key insights for policymakers, researchers, and businesses aiming to adapt to the evolving digital landscape in a post-pandemic economy.

This paper is a part of the broader research on “Adaptation of Laws in Science” and explores the limitations and challenges involved in adapting mathematical concepts to describe natural reality in physics. Specifically, the analysis focuses on two major examples: Euler's exponential laws and spacetime dilation derived from Lorentz transformations. By examining these concepts, the paper emphasizes that some complex laws are not universally applicable for deeper studies of nature, as they originate from mathematics and are correct only for specific parts of nature to which they have been adapted. These complex laws are particularly unsuitable where there is limited information available for adaptation. Therefore, without appropriate adaptations and a deep understanding of the physical context under investigation, the direct use of complex laws can lead to incorrect results. It is essential to avoid excessive generalization of these laws, once they become part of physics, unless a corresponding adaptation to the research context can be made. Furthermore, this paper supports the correctness of relativity theories by invoking that, like Euler's exponential growth theory, they were initially mathematical concepts. However, the nature of mathematics coincided with that of the phenomena in our universe, although through certain adaptations.

This study examines stress distributions in adhesive joints under various loading and temperature conditions. Finite element analysis (FEA) was employed to compute the peel and shear stresses at the adhesive interface and bondline midpoint. The analytical solutions proposed by Goland and Reissner were analyzed with modifications by Hart-Smith and Zhao. FEA revealed stress distributions at the adhesive/adherend interface and bondline midpoint. DP490 adhesive joints exhibited lower stresses than EA9696 due to a lower Young's modulus and the use of thicker adherends. Temperature variations significantly affected joint behavior, particularly above the adhesive’s glass transition temperature (Tg). Both EA9696 and DP490 adhesive joints displayed distinct responses to stress and temperature changes. The comparison between parabolic and biquadratic solutions for functionally graded adhesive (FGA) joints showed that the biquadratic solution consistently yielded higher shear and peel stress values, with an increase ranging from 15% to 71% compared to the parabolic solution at various temperatures. Comparing stress distributions between peel and shear stresses, emphasizing the importance of selecting adhesives based on stress type, temperature, and solution methods in optimizing adhesive bonding applications. These findings provide valuable insights for thermomechanical applications where thermal stimuli may be used for controlled debonding.

This paper presents and demonstrates the development of a new lightweight coating for aluminium alloy using a novel multicomponent alloy based on the AlSiMgCu system. This coating was applied using a newly designed approach that combined High-Velocity Oxy-Fuel (HVOF) and Plasma Spraying processes. This hybrid technique enables the deposition of coatings with enhanced performance characteristics. The microstructure was studied using optical microscopy (OM) and scanning electron with energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (SEM+EDS) microscopy, revealing good adhesion and compaction between the multicomponent coating and the A6061 substrate with 50 to 150 µm thickness. Vickers indentations were performed on the substrate and the new coating material, revealing a 50% improvement in the material's hardness compared to the casted alloy. Additionally, electrical conductivity measurements showed approximative x3.3 times values compared to the alloy in as-cast condition due to high solidification rates altering the morphology of the phases. Corrosion tests demonstrated a lower corrosion rate compared to other multicomponent aluminium alloys and similar to thermal treated A6061 alloy. Finally, tribological results obtained using ball on disc (BOD) test and laser scanning confocal microscopy, confirmed that the new multicomponent coating exhibited reductions in both friction coefficient and wear rate by more than 20% and 50%, respectively. This study demonstrates that using multi-component aluminium coatings could lead to developing of new automotive parts with enhanced properties for corrosion resistance, electrical conductivity, and wear conditions. Optimizing the thermal spraying parameters could further enhance the coating, achieving greater and more homogeneous thicknesses and yielding even higher performance properties.

Commercial production of Choromytilus meridionalis (black mussel) and Mytilus galloprovincialis (Mediterranean mussel) contributes to half of the South African marine aquaculture production per year. However, limited ready-to-eat black mussel products are available. The aim of this preliminary study was to investigate the effects of storage (15 days at room temperature) on the total viable counts (TVC), coliforms, proximate composition, and fat oxidation (TBARS) of a small-scale kitchen-based ready-to-eat hot smoked black mussel product preserved with vegetable oil. Three batches of black mussel meat were smoked at 80ºC for 15 minutes. Half of each batch were packaged in sterile glass jars with heated (50ºC) vegetable oil and half without oil. Microbiological analyses were done at days 1, 3, 9 and 15. Proximate composition was determined at day 1 and TBARS at days 1 and 15. Coliforms for all samples throughout the storage period were undetected. TVC plates for mussels stored without oil had no growth at days 1 to 5, however, reached TVC > 5 log10.g-1 at day 15. TVC for mussels with oil increased from 0 at day 1 to > 5 log10.g-1 at day 3 and remained at counts > 5 log10.g-1. There was no significant difference (P > 0.05) in moisture, protein, and ash for mussels stored with oil and those without oil, while significant differences (P < 0.001) in total fat and carbohydrates (10.27 ± 2.10% and 6.80 ± 2.22% with oil, and 5.05 ± 1.49% and 10.59 ± 3.00% without oil) were detected. These differences were due to the presence of additional fats from the vegetable oil. TBARS at day 15 showed no significant difference (P > 0.05) between mussels stored with oil and those without oil. There were no significant differences in TBARS from day 1 to 15 for both oil and without oil. Small-scale kitchen-based smoked black mussels preserved without vegetable oil could be stored for up to 9 days at room temperature.

Due to its potential harm to space payload, microwave corona breakdown of microstrip circuits has attracted much attention. This work describes an efficient way to suppress corona breakdown. Since corona breakdown threshold is determined by the highest electric field intensity at the surface of microstrip circuits, lacquer coating with thickness of tens of microns is sprayed on the top of microstrip circuits. The applied dielectric coating is used to move the discharge location away from circuit’s surface which is equivalent to reduce the highest electric field intensity on the in-terface of solid/air of the circuit and thus results into higher breakdown threshold. Two designs of classic coupled-line band-pass filter were used for verification. Corona experimental results at 2.5 GHz show that, in the interested low pressure range (100 to 4500 Pa), 5.3 dB improvement of mi-crowave corona breakdown threshold can be achieved for a filter with narrowest gap of 0.2 mm while its electrical performances like insertion loss, Q-factor are still acceptable. A threshold improvement prediction method is also presented and validated.

To meet the dual-carbon objective, China's economy needs to move from a carbon-intensive to a green economy. Green technology innovation and renewable energy development are key to promoting green economic growth. The study uses 2010–2022 provincial panel data from 30 Chinese provinces. The super-efficient SBM model measures the province's green economic growth index. A panel fixed-effects model is used to experimentally evaluate how green technology innovation and renewable energy development affect green economic growth. Green financing moderates and a panel threshold model tests the threshold effect of renewable energy development on green economic growth. The results demonstrate that (1) China's green economic growth is rising and has a "U" shape. (2) all selected variables significantly impact green economic growth. However, population density, government intervention, and industrial structure are inversely associated with GEG. Green economic growth is significantly boosted by the moderate role of green finance in the development of renewable energy and green technological innovation. (3) Renewable energy development has a single threshold non-linear effect on green economic growth, depending on its development level and green technological innovation. Considering China's current condition and research findings, this study examines the green energy transition to promote green economic growth and high-quality economic development. Meanwhile, puts forward some important policy recommendations.

Background: GaitSmart (GS) is a sensor-based digital medical device that can be used with the integrated app vGym to provide a personalised rehabilitation programme for older people undergoing total hip arthroplasty (THA) or total knee arthroplasty (TKA). This study aimed to determine whether the GS intervention used in the rehabilitation of older people undergoing THA or TKA is potentially cost-effective compared to the current standard of care (SoC). Methods: Decision-analytic modelling was conducted to estimate cost-effectiveness over a seventeen- week time horizon, from an NHS perspective. UK clinical and cost data from the GaitSmart randomised clinical trial was used to obtain input parameters, and sensitivity analysis was performed to address uncertainty. Results: Over a seventeen-week time horizon, GS incurred cost savings of £450.56 and a 0.02 gain in quality-adjusted life years (QALYs) compared to the SoC. These results indicate that GS is the dominant intervention because the device demonstrated greater effectiveness and lower costs. Probabilistic sensitivity analyses confirm the robustness of our results. Conclusion: GS appears to offer short-term efficiency benefits and demonstrates cost-effectiveness for the improvement of gait in people undergoing THA or TKA, compared to the SoC. These findings provided new evidence to inform policymakers.

We humans are natural-born engineers. As such, we model after machines not only isolated, naturally occurring systems, but also the basic laws of physics, sharing with machines a local-evolution-of-state `grammar'. However, previous work by the author casts doubt upon this mechanistic paradigm, suggesting that it is to blame for the stubbornness of many open problems in physics. Simple experiments are therefore proposed to identify `non-machines'. In one experiment, `non mechanistic correlations' in the spirit of Bell are sought in a pair of separated but previously coupled (macroscopic) chaotic systems. In another it is tested whether chaotic systems could fuzzily `remember their future' in the sense that a future binary perturbation applied to them could be inferred from their present behavior with probability>1/2. Chaotic systems are chosen as candidates because the long-time application of their (deterministic) mechanistic description is conceptually groundless: All scales are significant and mutually coupled in that regime, down to scales governed by QM, yet the quantum-classical transition remains inexplicable---if only due to the measurement problem. Similarly for non-deterministic chaotic systems, modeled as such purely for defying a short-time deterministic mechanistic description. Should a non mechanistic signature be found in such simple systems, the implications for science as a whole and life sciences in particular cannot be overstated.

The paper suggests that the physical priciple of special relativity's space-time transformation effect is wrong, Uniform linear motion without acceleration does not exist objectively, nor does its same reference frames. Therefore, it is inferred that the space-time transformation effect of special relativity is caused by the acceleration of moving objects, special relativity is only a part of general relativity, not a theoretical system that exists independently from general relativity. The corresponding mathematical demonstration and calculation verification are carried out, and the result proves that the inference of the paper is correct. At the same time, it further explains that the concept of absolute airspace is correct. Special relativity has serious errors in the concept of space, the principle of relativity and the physical principle of space-time transformation effect. Therefore, it is necessary to make a series of revisions to the theory of relativity and to reinterpret some related physical problems.

Throughout the Covid19 period, families were forced to stay indoors, adapting to online school-ing, remote work, and virtual social engagements, inevitably altering the dynamics within households. There is a notable increase in mental health challenges in terms of anxiety and de-pression in children and adolescents. This study intends to explore the psychosocial effects of the Covid-19 pandemic in Italian families adopting self- and proxy-report questionnaires on anxiety, anger, and health-related quality of life. The results showed that approximately 20% obtained a clinical anxiety score and only 10% obtained a clinical anger score. There was found a difference in the perception of the quality of life reported by the child and that perceived by the parent. The stepwise regression model showed that total anxiety scores were predicted by sex, quality of life scores from the parents' self-report version and total anger score. Another stepwise regression model identified physiological and social anxiety as the best predictors that impact the quality of life. Parental well-being actively influences the well-being of children, so it is fundamental to implement preventive programmes and promote child well-being providing parents the most adequate support possible.

Financial fraud poses a severe threat to the integrity of corporate financial statements and market efficiency. While auditors play a crucial role in detecting and preventing such fraud, the unique characteristics of this domain, including class imbalance, high misclassification costs, and am-biguous attributes, pose significant challenges. Traditional classification algorithms may not be optimally suited for this task. This paper proposes a novel stacking ensemble learning approach to enhanced detecting of Financial Statement Scam. By combining the strengths of multiple base learners, including Random Forest, XGBoost, and Gradient Boosting Decision Trees, our model leverages their diverse predictions to improve overall performance. A Logistic Regression me-ta-learner is employed to integrate the outputs of the base learners, capturing their collective wisdom while mitigating individual weaknesses. Extensive experimentation using a real-world dataset shown the superiority of our approach, achieving remarkable recall, precision, accuracy, and area under the curve metrics. The proposed model outperforms individual base learners, under-scoring the efficacy of ensemble learning in tackling the intricate problem of financial fraud detection. This research contributes to the creation of substantial and robust fraud detection systems, fostering trust and transparency in financial markets.

Though nowadays germanium do not reach the range of popularity than other metals, i.e. rare earth elements, its utility in target industries makes of it also a strategic metal. Though germanium can be find in a series of raw materials, the principal source for its recovery is from secondary wastes of the zinc industry, and also, the recycle of germanium-bearing waste materials is becoming of interest. In this recovery, Hydrometallurgy is performing a key role to the successful achievement of this goal. The present work reviews the most recent applications (2023 and 2024 years) of hydrometallurgical operations on the recovery of germanium from different solid and liquid sources.

Paratuberculosis, or Johne's disease, caused by Mycobacterium avium subsp. paratuberculosis (MAP), is a chronic granulomatous enteritis affecting both domestic and wild ruminants. The agent was also found in wild mammals such as wild boar (Sus scrofa), however, the role of wild mammals in the epidemiology of MAP is unclear. During the research period, 941 free-ranging wild boar (S. scrofa) legally hunted in two locations in the Centre-eastern region of Portugal were examined. Ninety-seven wild boar exhibited one or more gross lesions and were tested for the presence of Mycobacterium avium subsp. paratuberculosis using acid-fast staining, mycobacterial culture, poly-merase chain reaction (PCR), and histopathological examination. Forty-five animals (46.4%, 95% CI: 36.5-56.3%) were identified as infected, as indicated by positive results in culture and/or PCR. The findings revealed that the most significant risk factor was being a juvenile compared to year-lings and adults (OR = 10.2, 95% CI: 2.2-48.0). Based on our results, 37.9% (n = 11) of the infected animals were considered suitable for human consumption. Our findings offer novel insights into mycobacterial infections in wild boar populations in Portugal and suggest that wild boar could be a source of human infection if zoonotic potential is considered.

Objective. To evaluate serum neuronal and inflammatory biomarkers in asphyctic newborns treated with hypothermia alone or hypothermia plus melatonin, and whether biomarkers correlate with neurodevelopmental outcomes. Design. This is a pilot multicentre, randomised, controlled, double blind clinical trial. Neuronal glial fibrillary acidic protein (GFAP), granulocyte-macrophage colony-stimulating factor (GM-CSF), and inflammatory cytokines (interleukin (IL)-1, IL-2, IL-7 and IL-13) were measured in serum samples at hospital admission (T0), 24 hours (T1), 72 hours (T2) and 7-10 days of age (T3). Neurodevelopmental outcomes (Bayley Scales of Infant and Toddler Development-III scales, Gross Motor Function Classification System (GMFCS) and the Tardieu scale) were performed at 6 and 18 months. Setting: Level 3 neonatal intensive care unit. Patients and interventions: 25 newborns were recruited. The treated patients received a daily dose of intravenous melatonin, 5 mg per kg body weight, for 3 days. Results. After adjusting the data for severity, in the group treated with melatonin, there is a decrease in plasma levels of GM-CSF, IL-2 and IL-13 at T1 compared to placebo, as well as, at T2, in GM-CSF concentrations, as well as IL-7 and IL-13 at T3. Evolutionarily, we found a significant decrease in GM-CSF concentrations in the treatment group compared to placebo, with no differences for the rest of the biomarkers. It is noteworthy that the sustained decrease in GM-CSF and inflammatory cytokines IL-2, IL-7 and IL-13 correlated with better neurodevelopmental outcomes at 6 and 18 months. Conclusions. In neonates with hypoxic-ischemic encephalopathy, the addition of iv melatonin to hypothermia therapy affects the plasma concentration of biomarkers in the first week of life, with a high correlation with long-term neurological prognosis.

Hazelnut, pistachio and cashew are tree nuts with health benefits but also with allergenic properties being prevalent food allergens in Europe. The allergic characteristics of these tree nuts after processing combining heat, pressure and enzymatic digestion were analyzed through in vitro (Western blot and ELISA) and in vivo test (Prick-Prick). In the analyzed population, the patients sensitized to Cor a 8 (nsLTP) were predominant over those sensitized against hazelnut seed storage proteins (Sprot, Cor a 9 and 14), which displayed higher IgE reactivity. The protease E5 effectively hydrolyzed proteins from hazelnut and pistachio, while E7 was efficient for cashew protein hydrolysis. When combined with pressured heating (autoclave and Controlled Instantaneous Depressurization (DIC)), these proteases notably reduced the allergenic reactivity. The combination of DIC treatment before enzymatic digestion resulted in the most effective methodology to drastically reduce or indeed eliminate the allergenic capacity of tree nuts.

The therapeutic, attenuative, and morphological effects of proprietary neural stem cell-derived extracellular vesicles (NSC EVs, AB126) produced by Aruna Bio, Inc. were assessed in a range of in vitro and in vivo models of stroke. We emphasize that modulation of neuroinflammation is a key target and suggest further studies to advance our understanding of the mechanisms of action and ultimately how best to dose and monitor the benefits of AB126 in stroke patients.
