Electromagnetic coil is the key component of rotating equipment, and its reliability is very important for the normal operation of the equipment. In order to accurately evaluate the health status of electromagnetic coil, a health evaluation and anomaly detection method based on Mahalanobis distance (MD) and Box-Cox transformations is proposed. With the help of accelerated fatigue experiment, the whole life electrical data of high, medium and low frequency spectrum of electromagnetic coil is collected, and the low and medium frequency spectrum data are constructed as the initial feature set. And then, the initial feature set is mahalanized, and Mahalanobis distance is taken as the feature to evaluate the health state of the electromagnetic coil. With the help of Box-Cox transformations, MD is transformed into normal distribution form, and the electromagnetic coil fault early warning is realized according to 3 σ criterion. The results show that MD can accurately evaluate the degradation state of the electromagnetic coil and realize early warning.

Curved continuous steel box girders are extensively utilized in bridge construction due to its efficiency and environmental benefits. However, in regions with significant temperature fluctuations, temperature effects can result in cumulative deformation and stress concentration, which may severely impact structural safety and durability. This study examines the structural response of curved continuous steel box girders under diverse temperature conditions and also develops a comprehensive parameterized thermodynamic numerical model. The model assesses the influence of cross-sectional shape parameters including; the number of cross-sectional box chambers, diaphragm thickness, and height-to-width ratio, as well as longitudinal structural parameters such as planar configurations, width-to-span ratio, and support arrangements, along with the arrangement of stiffening ribs on the temperature-induced effects in the girders. Results indicate that optimizing the width and eccentricity of support stiffeners to 30% and 25% in the support plate size, respectively, can significantly alleviate local temperature-induced stresses. Additionally, variations in longitudinal and transverse stiffeners manifest minimal impact on thermal performance. These findings provide a theoretical foundation for improved design and construction practices, offering practical design recommendations to mitigate temperature effects and enhance the longevity and safety of such structures.

The problem is how to create a comprehensive "tool", applicable to any company, which will allow to achieve multiple effects at the same time, such as adhering to the ISO 31000 procedure, connecting risks and company goals in the manner defined by the COSO framework (by connecting the elements of the organizational structure with the company goals), assessment of all types of risks that a company may face, including technical, enable decision support and given visualization of data and effects. Solving this general problem requires solving many specific problems such as the creation of a specific risk matrixes for each company that will express its risk appetite but also to give the possibility of a comprehensive overview of all possible types of consequences, linking entities one-to-many and many-to-one in order to link the elements of the organizational structure to the goals that can be and common to several units, the acquisition of potential risks based on the knowledge of external experts, which overcomes the limitation of insight from the company and introduces elements of artificial intelligence, the application of standards for the evaluation of technical risks such as EN 16991 or API 580, 581 etc. while enabling the management of the implementation project and evergreening in the future. Our research question is can an integral model be made that will solve the above problems in an integrated way. The goal is to create software that will support this solution and that will be practically applicable. Solving such a complex problem of connecting various theoretical and practical aspects required creation of a special algorithm for connecting project activities, risks, organizational structure, goals, knowledge, data management and software. The algorithm, model and software were developed and successfully tested in two Serbian companies.

This paper proposes a novel hybrid model that integrates Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA), Rank Order Centroid (ROC) and COmbined COmpromise SOlution (COCOSO) to improve risk assessment and prioritization of failure modes. A case study in the healthcare sector will be conducted to validate the effectiveness of the proposed model. ROC is used to assign weights to the FMEA criteria (severity, occurrence and detectability). COCOSO is then applied to create a robust ranking of failure modes by considering multiple criteria simultaneously. The results of the case study show that the hybrid FMEA-ROC-COCOSO model improves the accuracy and objectivity of risk prioritization. It effectively identifies critical failure modes, outperforming traditional FMEA. The hybrid approach not only improves risk management decision making, leading to better mitigation strategies and higher system reliability, but also reduces the complexity typically found in FMEA hybrid models. This model provides a more comprehensive risk assessment tool suitable for application in different industries.

Satellite-derived high-resolution soil moisture and precipitation data have become widely adopted in natural hazard and climate change research. Landslide susceptibility mapping, which often relies on static predisposing factors, faces challenges in accounting for temporal changes, limiting its efficacy in accurately identifying potential locations for landslide occurrences. A key challenge is the lack of sufficient ground-based monitoring networks for soil moisture and precipitation, especially in remote areas with limited access to rain gauge data. This study addresses these limitations by integrating static landslide conditioning factors—such as topography, geology, and landscape features—with high-resolution dynamic satellite data, including soil moisture and precipitation. Using machine learning techniques, particularly the Random Forest (RF) algorithm, the approach enables the generation of dynamic landslide susceptibility maps that incorporate both spatial and temporal variations. The work validates the method by analyzing two major landslide events and their relationship to hydrological factors, occurred during two rainfall events in 2019 in Italy. The results successfully identified high-probability landslide areas by accounting for multiple hydrogeological factors and capturing the unique patterns of rainfall and soil moisture distribution and intensity. The findings emphasize the need for further research to refine the use of high-resolution satellite precipitation and soil moisture data, particularly in identifying the optimal temporal and spatial resolutions for landslide susceptibility mapping.

Wind turbines are associated with noise pollution and make a significant impact on social and environmental stability. The surrounding activities affect the noise pollution in residential locations. It is significantly important that wind power asset owners proactively consider the impact to the surrounding environment while constructing and in the operational phase of wind farms. This will enable the investigation of potential solutions for mitigating public inconvenience. Regulatory authorities regularly demand that asset owners take noise level measurements to investigate the consequences to the public and the environment from wind farms; however, the local authorities do not consider low-frequency noise generation. This manuscript presents a noise risk assessment approach using fuzzy set theory. In this study, two wind farms were selected which are located in the north-central region of Sri Lanka and studied during the southwest monsoon, northeast monsoon and inter-monsoon seasons. Noise data were collected from wind turbines near the residential areas to investigate their impact on the environment and society. To perform noise risk assessment proactively in populated areas, and to identify the risk, a fuzzy logic-based expert system was presented in this study.

This work presents an illustrative application of the newly developed “Second-Order Features Adjoint Sensitivity Analysis Methodology for Neural Ordinary Differential Equations (2nd-FASAM-NODE)” methodology to determine most efficiently the exact expressions of the first- and second-order sensitivities of NODE-decoder responses to the neural net’s underlying parameters (weights and initial conditions). The application of the 2nd-FASAM-NODE methodology will be illustrated using the Nordheim-Fuchs phenomenological model for reactor safety, which describes a short-time self-limiting power transient in a nuclear reactor system having a negative temperature coefficient in which a large amount of reactivity is suddenly inserted. The representative model responses that will be analyzed in this work include the model’s the time-dependent total energy released, neutron flux, temperature and thermal conductivity. The 2nd-FASAM-NODE methodology yields the exact expressions of the first-order sensitivities of these decoder responses with respect to the underlying uncertain model parameters and initial conditions, requiring just a single large-scale computation per response. Furthermore, 2nd-FASAM-NODE methodology yields the exact expressions of the second-order sensitivities of a model response requiring as few large-scale computations as there are features/functions of model parameters, thereby demonstrating its unsurpassed efficiency for performing sensitivity analysis of NODE-nets.

This work introduces the mathematical framework of the novel “First-Order Features Adjoint Sensitivity Analysis Methodology for Neural Ordinary Differential Equations” (1st-FASAM-NODE). The 1st-FASAM-NODE methodology produces and computes most efficiently the exact expressions of all of the first-order sensitivities of NODE-decoder responses with respect to the parameters underlying the NODE’s decoder, hidden layers, and encoder, after having optimized the NODE-net to represent the physical system under consideration. Building on the 1st-FASAM-NODE, this work subsequently introduces the mathematical framework of the novel “Second-Order Features Adjoint Sensitivity Analysis Methodology for Neural Ordinary Differential Equations (2nd-FASAM-NODE).” The 2nd-FASAM-NODE methodology yields and computes most efficiently the exact expressions of the second-order sensitivities of NODE decoder-responses with respect to the NODE parameters. Since the physical system modeled by the NODE-net necessarily comprises imprecisely known parameters that stem from measurements and/or computations subject to uncertainties, the availability of the first-and second-order sensitivities of decoder responses to the parameters underlying the NODE-net are essential for performing sensitivity analysis and quantifying the uncertainties induced in the NODE-decoder responses by uncertainties in the underlying uncertain NODE-parameters.

This paper presents a comprehensive simulation framework for the investigation of electromigration (EM) in nano-interconnects, with a primary focus on unravelling the influential role of microstructure. To this end, a novel approach to generate conductor metal’s microstructures is presented, whereby a predefined statistical distribution of grain sizes obtained from experimental texture analyses can be incorporated into the developed EM modelling framework. The framework considers the impact of diffusion heterogeneity through the metal texture and interfaces. As such, the intricate interplay between microstructural/interfacial properties, and the resulting atomic flux and stress distribution within nanointerconnects could be investigated. Additionally, the study advances beyond the state of the art by comprehensively simulating all stages of electromigration, including stress evolution, void nucleation, and void dynamics while considering the impact of microstructure. Specifically, the model was employed to study the impact of trench dimensions on dual damascene copper texture and its subsequent impact on electromigration aging, where the model findings were corroborated by comparing to available experimental findings. A nearly linear augmentation in normalized lifetime was detected for aspect ratios equal to or greater than 1. However, a saturation is detected for wider lines with no effective enhancement in lifetime. An aspect ratio of 1 seems to maximize EM lifetime for each cross-sectional area by fostering a bamboo-like structure, where about 2-fold of increase is estimated when going from aspect ratio 2 to 1.

In the field of Thermal Non-Destructive Testing and Evaluation (TNDT&E), active thermography gained popularity due to its fast, wide area monitoring and remote inspection capability to assess materials without compromising their future usability. Among the various active thermographic methods, pulse compression favourable frequency-modulated thermal wave imaging stands out for its enhanced detectability and depth resolution. In this study, experimental investigation has been carried out on a hardened steel sample used in ship building industry with a flat-bottom hole simulated defect using the Frequency Modulated Thermal Wave Imaging (FMTWI) technique. And the defect detection capabilities of FMTWI have been investigated from various statistical post processing approaches and compared by taking Signal to Noise Ration (SNR) as a figure of merit. Among various adopted statistical post-processing techniques, the pulse compression has been carried out using different methods: offset removal with polynomial curve fitting, and Principal Component Analysis (PCA) which is an unsupervised learning approach for data reduction and offset removal with median centering for data standardization. The performance of these techniques was assessed through experimental investigations on hardened steel specimen used in ship building to provide valuable insights into their effectiveness in defect detection capabilities.

This study aims to enhance the detection and assessment of safety hazards in small-scale reservoir engineering using advanced image processing and deep learning techniques. Given the critical importance of small reservoirs in flood management, water supply, and ecological balance, the effective monitoring of their structural integrity is crucial. This paper developed a fully convolutional semantic segmentation method for hidden danger images of small reservoirs using an encoding-decoding structure, utilizing a deep learning framework of convolutional neural networks (CNNs) to process and analyze high-resolution images captured by UAVs. The method incorporated data augmentation and adaptive learning techniques to improve model accuracy under diverse environmental conditions. Finally, the quantification data of hidden dangers (length, width, area, etc.) was obtained by converting the image pixels to the actual size. Results demonstrate significant improvements in detecting structural deficiencies, such as cracks and seepage areas, with increased precision and recall rates compared to conventional methods, and the HHSN-25 network (Hidden Hazard Segmentation Network with 25 layers)proposed in this paper outperforms other methods. The main evaluation indicator mIoU of HHSN-25 is higher than other methods, reaching 87.00%, and Unet is 85.50%, Unet++is 85.55%. The proposed model achieves reliable real-time performance, allowing for early warning and effective management of potential risks. This study contributes to the development of more efficient monitoring systems for small-scale reservoirs, enhancing their safety and operational sustainability.

Occupational incidents in construction workplaces present a persistent challenge, with severe consequences for both workers and project outcomes. This study aims to examine the specific causal factors contributing to these incidents, focusing on the interaction between worker-related, environmental, and procedural factors. The objective is to identify key contributors to workplace accidents and develop a unified predictive model to mitigate future risks. To achieve this, we employed a machine learning approach on a comprehensive accidentology dataset collected from contractors across multiple construction sites. The dataset includes variables such as worker ex-perience, environmental conditions, adherence to safety protocols, and more. By analyzing direct, indirect, and root causes, the methodology uncovers hidden patterns and interdependencies that traditional analysis might overlook. The study’s findings indicate that worker experience and environmental factors are the most significant contributors to incident occurrence, with a clear interaction effect between these variables. The results not only confirm previous research but also offer enhanced predictive capabilities for future safety measures. This research demonstrates the value of machine learning in generating data-driven insights, ultimately aiding in the develop-ment of targeted interventions to improve safety standards in the construction industry.

Based on the perspective of complex directed weighted network analysis, this paper constructs a static resilience evaluation framework for trade networks from two dimensions: structural resilience and node resilience. It studies the evolution of static resilience in the upstream, midstream, downstream, and recycling trade networks of global wood forest products from 2002 to 2021. The study finds that the total trade volume of global wood forest products has increased by 58.0%, 77.3%, 71.2%, and 77.2% in the upstream, midstream, downstream, and recycling sectors, respectively. The downstream trade network exhibits efficient information transmission and resource mobility capabilities. All four types of trade networks exhibit scale-free characteristics, with core countries such as China, the United States, and Germany playing a dominant role in the network and playing a crucial role in network robustness, but also increasing network vulnerability. In terms of unweighted assortativity, all four networks exhibit the characteristic of "small countries relying on hubs," while the weighted assortativity of the downstream network is positive, indicating enhanced network resilience. In terms of node resilience, countries exhibit significant differences and dynamic changes. China demonstrates strong resilience and adaptability, while the United States maintains its core position. China's influence in the downstream network has significantly increased, and India has rapidly emerged in the recycling network. To enhance network resilience, it is necessary to increase diversity and redundancy, establish effective emergency response mechanisms, and promote the diversification and green transformation of the supply chain.

Coupling faults that occur simultaneously widely exist in the operation of mechanical equipment, and coupling fault features are formed by nonlinear coupling of multiple base fault features. In this paper, hypergraph neural network is used to obtain the characteristics of coupling faults, and two coupling fault diagnosis frameworks based on hypergraph are provided. 1. Coupling fault diagnosis framework based on feature generation: The hypergraph neural network is used as a generator to provide negative samples for discriminator training. The generator outputs hyperedge vectors as fake samples, and each hyperedge connects a base fault containing a fault type. 2. Coupling fault diagnosis framework based on feature extraction: Each node is regarded as a fault type, and the fault characteristics of each type of fault are extracted through the aggregation operation of hypergraph. The attention mechanism is introduced to realize the dynamic adjustment of the hyperedge, and the dynamic vertex is used to classify the unknown faults. The results show that the diagnostic accuracy of coupling faults under the two frameworks reaches 88.6% and 86.76%, respectively.

The optimal functionality and dependability of mechanical systems are important for the sustained productivity and operational reliability of industrial machinery which has direct impact on it’s longevity and profitability. Therefore, failure of a mechanical system or any of it component would be detrimental to production continuity and availability. Consequently,this study proposes a robust diagnostic framework for analyzing the blade conditions of shot blast industrial machinery. The framework involves analyzing the spectral characteristics of the vibration signals generated by Industrial Shot Blast. Additionally, a peak detection algorithms is introduced to identify and extract the unique features present in the peak magnitudes of each signal spectrum. A feature importance algorithm is then deployed as the feature selection tool, and these selected features are fed into 10 machine learning classifier, with Extreme gradient boosting (XGB) as the core classifier. Results show that the XGB classifier achieved the best accuracy of 98.05%, with a cost-efficient computational cost of 0.83 seconds. Other global assessment metrics were also implemented in the study to further validate the model.

The use of fuel material and different sources of ignition causes unwanted fires, producing and spreading in different spaces. Fire fighting. systems are measures taken to minimize the effects of fire. This struggle is not only on land, but also in the maritime world, through maritime security that has become a very important element for the International Maritime Organization (IMO). Therefore, maritime accidents caused by fire are one of the challenges to be taken into account, because they require immediate control and response. This article presents a historical interpretation of the concept of maritime safety through first responders on ships. It will be demonstrate how the technological advances of such equipment have been very important for their arrival on ships. In addition, the article reveals the legislative changes of International Convention for the Safety of Life at Sea (SOLAS), which reflects the IMO requirements to prevent fire risks on board, requiring a reading of the primary documents. Finally, the importance of the evolution of first intervention equipment for safety on board has been shown.

In this work, a method for measuring tow angles in carbon fiber components, based on the use of a polarized camera, is analyzed from a metrological point of view. Carbon fibers alter the direction of the reflected light electrical field, so that in each point of the surface of a composite piece the angle of polarization of reflected light matches the fiber orientation. A statistical analysis of the angle of linear polarization (AoLP) in each pixel of each examined area allows to evaluate the average winding angle. An evaluation of the measurement uncertainty of the method on a cylinder obtained by a filament winding process is carried out, and the result appears adequate for the study of the distribution of angles along the surface of the piece, in order to optimize the process.

Object detection systems are widely used in various fields such as autonomous vehicles and facial recognition. In particular, object detection using deep learning networks enables real-time processing in low-performance edge devices, and can maintain high detection rates. However, edge devices that operate far from administrators are vulnerable to various physical attacks by malicious adversaries. In this paper, we implement a function for detecting traffic signs by using three versions of You Only Look Once (YOLO) and Faster-RCNN, which can be adopted by edge devices of autonomous vehicles. Then, assuming the role of a malicious attacker, we executed adversarial patch attacks with Adv-Patch and Dpatch. As a result of experimenting with misdetection of traffic stop signs using Adv-Patch and Dpatch, we confirmed the attacks can succeed with a high probability. To defeat these attacks, we propose an image reconstruction method using an autoencoder and the Structural Similarity Index Measure (SSIM). We confirm that the proposed method can sufficiently defend against an attack, attaining an AP above 91.46% even when two adversarial attacks are launched.

Each material is analyzed for its ability to enhance strength, reduce permeability, and improve resistance to environmental stressors. Additionally, the article examines the role of surface treatments, sealants, and routine maintenance practices in prolonging the life of bridge decks. By synthesizing current research and practical applications, this article offers valuable insights and recommendations for engineers, contractors, and policymakers seeking to advance bridge deck durability through innovative materials and methodologies.

Firefighter hoods are essential components of personal protective equipment (PPE), protecting the head, neck, and shoulders from extreme heat and hazardous particulates. This comprehensive review evaluates recent hood design and material innovations aimed at improving comfort and protective performance. Traditionally, firefighter hoods mainly focused on thermal insulation but lacked effective particulate filtration, which posed significant health risks. Recent updates to several standards set by the US National Fire Protection Association have led to advanced mul-ti-layered hoods incorporating innovative materials for improved performance. Nevertheless, challenges remain in achieving an optimal balance between comfort and protection. Firefighter hoods must not hinder movement or increase heat stress, and the process of donning and doffing must minimize contamination risks. Current standards primarily assess material properties but fail to address practical, real-world conditions and interactions with other PPE components. This review emphasizes that these knowledge gaps can only be closed through systematic performance evaluations that replicate actual firefighting scenarios and include both human trials and simu-lations. Future research should focus on refining hood designs and materials to enhance particulate filtration efficiency, improve ergonomic fit, and reduce complications associated with use. This will ensure that firefighter hoods offer comprehensive protection while maintaining high comfort levels in demanding environments.

Technological equipment in quarries that extract and deliver aggregates for different uses operates in a predetermined flow depending on the type of rocks exploited and the dimensional characteristics imposed on the final products. In this context, the interruptions in operation required to replace high-wear parts (such as the teeth of excavators and bucket loaders) must be limited as much as possible through technological solutions to increase their service life. The evolution of the wear of the teeth of the quarry equipment that come into direct contact with the rocks was concretely established in the production process, in parallel with the wear values obtained by simulating the wear phenomenon in laboratory conditions, in order to validate the data collected during the operation of the machines. Preventive-repetitive maintenance, within the activities of reconditioning the worn surfaces of the teeth, through the charging process by manual electric welding with covered electrodes, was applied directly to the machine, which led to the shortening of the interruptions in operation necessary to replace these spare parts.

This study examines the overall needs of the green construction scheme with ‘carbon neutrality’ as the centre in the Zhejiang provincial green development target area. By aggregating and organising the construction and development data of Zhejiang Province, the entropy weight TOPSIS model is formed according to the statistical modelling for quantitative examination of the data, and the scientific assessment scheme of ‘carbon neutrality’ in the regional construction industry of Zhejiang Province is developed. This study aids in completely exhibiting and dynamically understanding the advancement of the ‘carbon neutral’ capacity of the urban construction industry. The objective is to discover the weak link in the advancement of carbon neutrality in several regional construction industries, which is of great relevance for further examining and forecasting the strategic outlook of carbon neutrality and modifying the planning of carbon neutrality strategy in special regional construction industries.

Expandable graphite (EG) was modified with a charring agent and organic-inorganic hybridised intumescent flame retardants (MEG) were synthesized. This study uses a cone calorimeter (CCT) and a DaqPRO 5300 radiation heat flow meter to evaluate the fire-resistant properties influenced by MEG on intumescent fire-retardant coatings. The impact of MEG on the thermal degradation of these coatings was investigated through the use of thermogravimetric analysis (TGA). The results obtained by CCT demonstrated that the incorporation of MEG markedly diminished the heat release rate and total heat release rate of the coating, in addition to enhancing the char residue compared to coatings with only expandable graphite (EG). Furthermore, TGA results demonstrate that adding MEG increases the weight of the char residue at elevated temperatures, suggesting improved thermal stability. Based on these findings, MEG exhibits a synergistic flame retardant effect when combined with intumescent fire retardant (IFR) systems. This synergy not only improves the flame-retardant properties of the coatings but also enhances their overall thermal stability, making MEG a promising additive for developing more efficient fire-retardant materials. Thus, MEG-modified coatings offer superior protection against fire hazards, highlighting their potential for practical applications in fire safety.

Modern automotive systems should must satisfy strict reliability requirements. Most of the real vehicle systems and safety-critical networks have complex interconnections. Sensitivities and probabilistic uncertainties of reliability of System with Complex Interconnections (SwCI) can be investigated by the Monte-Carlo Simulation (MCS). The paper focuses on sensitivities and parametrical uncertainties of SwCIs reliability. The proposed method can be used forimplemented in the investigation of uncertainties of SwCIs reliability – in other wordsi.e., for in the determination of critical system elements and to estimateion of the Required Number of Spare Parts (RNSP) of the system, which depends on the probability of allowable spare equipment shortage.

Background: This study aims to develop a research framework for the Social Life Cycle Assessment (S-LCA) of public services by conducting a systematic review of existing literature from 2013 to 2022. The research question focuses on how the results of the literature review can inform the advancement of S-LCA for public services. Methods: To answer this question, a qualitative and quantitative analysis of data from the Web of Science and Scopus databases was carried out. The quantitative analysis determined the total number of S-LCA and SO-LCA papers published by main journals, and main authors. The qualitative analysis highlighted the different themes and research objectives addressed in the work relating to the S-LCA of products/services and organizations. Results: The results show that 222 papers dealing with S-LCA were published in 94 journals and revealed a scarcity of work on public services, with most papers focusing on products/services and organizations. While there is a lack of direct scientific data, the study identified 17 actors, 74 impact sub-categories, and 178 indicators that could be considered for the S-LCA of public services. Conclusions: Due to the diverse nature of public services, it is crucial to develop specific stakeholder categories, sub-categories, and performance indicators for each public service. This will support the scientific community and S-LCA practitioners in applying assessing the social impacts of public services.

The United Nations' sustainable development goals have underscored the importance of enhancing supply chain sustainability while appropriately distributing orders. This study proposes a novel framework involving Z-number, game theory, indifference threshold-based attribute ratio analysis (ITARA), and combined compromise solution method (CoCoSo) to evaluate the sustainability of suppliers and order allocations. To better reflect the decision makers’ current choices for the sustainability of assessed suppliers and order allocations; enhance the comprehensiveness of decision-making, the importance parameter of the supplier is obtained through game theory objectively for transforming supplier performance into order allocation performance. The Z-numbers are involved in ITARA (so-called ZITARA) and CoCoSo (so-called ZCoCoSo) to overcome the issue of information uncertainty in the process of expert evaluation. ZITARA and ZCoCoSo are applied to assess the objective weight of criteria and the ranking of assessed order allocations, respectively. Afterwards, a case study of China’s company is illustrated the utility of the proposed framework and inform their decision-making process regarding the orders to be assigned to the assessed suppliers.

The subway station operation is susceptible to safety accidents when high-pressure gas pipeline overlaying, and analyzing the correlations between the safety influencing factors (SIFs) under this operation situation can provide paths to reduce safety accidents. Thus, this paper investigated the coupling correlations between the SIFs. We firstly identified the SIFs during subway station operation under high-pressure pipeline (SSOUHP) based on the literature review and experts’ discussion. Then, the analytic hierarchy process (AHP) and coupling degree analysis (CDA) were combined to assess the coupling correlations between the SIFs. And Y subway station was selected to test the proposed hybrid coupling analysis approach. Research results show that (a) 23 second-level SIFs were identified and these SIFs can be summed up into 5 first-level SIFs, namely, human-related SIFs, pipeline-related SIFs, station-related SIFs, environment-related SIFs, and management-related SIFs; (b) the proposed hybrid approach can be used to evaluate the coupling correlations between SIFs; (c) of the coupling situations during Y subway station operation, the internal coupling correlations among environment-related SIFs, the coupling correlations between pipe-related SIFs and environment-related SIFs, and the coupling correlations among human-related SIFs, pipe-related SIFs and environment-related SIFs are with higher safety risk; (d) the overall coupling correlation among all SIFs during Y subway station operation is with lower safety risk. The research can enrich the knowledge in the safety evaluation area, and provide reference for onsite safety management.

The present study is to address performance of the dairy supply chain and emphasizes the significance of reliability of the chain as a fundamental and critical attribute for fulfilling the safety requirements. In order to evaluate the performance of the dairy supply chain, the present study utilizes the reliability attribute, which is an essential and informative system performance indicator. The study considers not only the inputs and outputs but also internal activities and relationships between customers, manufacturers, and suppliers. To minimize calculations and resolve uncertainties and vagueness that may be experienced in the performance evaluation process, this study proposes the use of the Fuzzy Inference System (FIS) approach and evaluates the reliability at each level of the supply chain: supply, manufacturing, and distribution. Combining the reliability of different levels, the study finally calculates the reliability of the entire supply chain. The proposed methodology offers a practical approach for evaluating the reliability performance of a dairy supply chain and can be easily extended to other industries as well. To verify the proposed methodology, a real case in the Iranian dairy industry is chosen to be studied. Results indicate that the proposed methodology can effectively identify bottlenecks or weaknesses in the dairy supply chain and help develop effective strategies to address them. Analyzing factors influencing supply chain reliability can optimize operations, reduce costs, and improve the overall quality of dairy product quality delivered to consumers.

The development of ballistic protection vests (BPVs) has become increasingly significant, particularly in the design of soft panels, which are critical to the overall size and configuration of these vests. Despite their importance, a standardized design process for soft panels is lacking in the literature. This research addresses this gap by creating soft panels tailored to the body types of regional soldiers while adhering to relevant standards. We propose a comprehensive design algorithm and evaluate the applicability of the National Institute of Justice (NIJ) standard 0101.06 test templates for configuring these panels. This study aims to design soft ballistic panels for BPVs that cater to the body type requirements of regional soldiers and comply with NIJ 0101.06 standards. We have developed an algorithm for designing soft panels and analyzed the feasibility of using NIJ test templates for their configuration. The research encompasses a detailed literature review, analysis of existing BPV soft panels, and comparison with NIJ test templates. The panels were designed and scaled using computer-aided design (CAD) systems and evaluated through by physical fitting on mannequins and virtual fitting using the Clo3D program. Our findings indicate that the NIJ standard test templates are only partially applicable to the design of soft panels. The developed methodology includes an algorithm and size specifications tailored to regional covers. A coefficient (K) was identified to calculate the soft panel surface area prior to design, thereby saving time and resources.

Although it’s been some forty years since we started to teach combined modified Fault Tree / Event Tree acyclic digraphs, as much simpler Bow Tie diagrams, their popularity seems undimmed; as their pictorial and focussed discussion prompts, fulfil a valuable function in the safe design and operation of hazardous plants and installations. An excellent review of the current state of the art and an authoritative treatise on the terminology and issues involved has been produced as an internationally recognised standard for using the approach. But just as this model has augmented and helped formalise previous pictorial tools, (such as “Dominoes” and holey “Cheese” slices), this paper suggests and sets out to show how we can build on even this current cornerstone of practice and augment its versatility; with the ability to obtain, what engineers rely on, some more quantitative insights from these pictures. “Layers Of Protection Analysis” (LOPA), has already demonstrated a way of pulling together more quantitative predictions from the pictures. This paper would go further and by concentrating on the function not the physicality of a barrier, outlines a methodology that can extend, not just the quantification ability of the LOPA extension, but present a much more holistic view of how the Barriers, as functions, need to work together, interact and interdepend; often in nonlinear, unexpected ways, to give system designers and operators a much clearer view of actual performance predictions.

Background: This study focuses on different manual handling methods and their effect on psychomotor skills concerning physical measurements (height, weight, age) and pinch strength. Objective: To assess the effects of three manual handling techniques on psychomotor skills and to establish the prediction of pinch strength by physical measurements. Methods: Three manual handling methods were tested: handling with a 90-degree elbow angle, handling with one hand, and handling with both hands. Psychomotor skills were quantified through handgrip strength, dexterity tests, and perceived exertion scales. Linear and random forest regression models were used to predict pinch strength from physical measurements. Results: Handling with a 90-degree elbow angle significantly increased perceived exertion and error rates while decreasing post-task handgrip strength. The one-hand method showed the least negative effect on psychomotor abilities. Weight emerged as the most influential predictor of pinch strength, followed by height and age. The random forest regression model outperformed the linear regression model, indicating its suitability for capturing complex non-linear relationships among variables. The Random Forest Regression model excelled in predicting weight with a high R² score of 0.78, showing strong predictive power. It was moderately effective for height with an R² score of 0.42. However, it performed poorly for age prediction, with an R² score of 0.01, indicating ineffective features for predicting age. Conclusion: The results emphasize the importance of ergonomic interventions and training programs to optimize manual handling practices, aiming to reduce physical strain and enhance worker productivity and safety. Maintaining muscle strength is crucial in older age groups due to the decline in pinch strength with age. These findings can inform intervention studies and the modification of occupational health and safety practices. Future research should aim to validate these results across diverse populations and explore additional factors influencing handgrip strength.

The development of non-destructive testing (NDT) methods for infrastructure facilities and residential buildings that may affect human life is urgent to prevent collapse due to aging or damage in the event of earthquakes and other events. In this study, we developed a single-input and multiple-output (SIMO) synthetic aperture radar (SAR) imaging system using a high-sensitivity millimeter-wave (MM-wave) array antenna module with high directivity and absolute gains of 13.5 dB and 14.5 dB for the transmit and receive antennas, respectively. After various performance evaluations, we successfully demonstrated the usefulness of this system in NDT. Specifically, we observed cracks hidden by fiberglass tape and black acrylic paint during measurements on concrete materials. In addition, we demonstrated the transmission performance of the MM-wave against a thin concrete plate and obtained the attenuation distance Λ_exp=6.0 mm. Furthermore, in the experiment using composite materials consisting of ceramic tiles and a refractory board bonded together, and another experiment using composite plywood which is used in ordinary residential construction materials in Japan, we were able to observe defects in the internal structure that are invisible to the human eye through a perspective view.

Protection suit is vital for fireman’ safety. Traditional protection suit just physically protects fireman from empyrosis, but can not locate the body injury position from the impact debris. Herein, we present a wearable impact debris positioning system for fireman protection suit alarming based on accelerometer array. The wearable piezoelectric accelerometers with distribute regularly on the suit to detect the vibration on different body parts, which is conducive to positioning injured body parts. In addition, the injured parts can be displayed on the dummy body model on the upper computer with a higher localization accuracy of 4 cm. The positioning alarm system has a rapid response time of 0.11ms attributing to smart signal processing method. This work provides a reliable and smart method for locating and assessing the body injury position from the impact debris, which is significant for fire disaster commander to rescue injured fireman in time.

The research was aimed at comparing the fire characteristics of different types of pepper in the context of designing explosion prevention. The following characteristics were studied: explosion pressure pmax and Kst at selected concentrations, ignition temperature of the deposited dust layer from the hot surface and minimum initiation energy. The comparison of the chemical properties of the used types of pepper was performed using TG/DSC. Results of the measurements suggest that different types of peppers exhibit different explosion characteristics. Each of the samples reached the maximum value of the explosion pressure, and their rate of pressure rise increased at different concentrations. The volume of the explosion chamber used also influenced the explosion characteristics. It is a consequence of the fact that the explosion characteristics strongly depend on the mechanism of action of a particular igniter. The minimum effect on the safety characteristics was observed when measuring the minimum initiation energy and the minimum ignition temperature of dust layer from the hot surface. The results of the measurements suggest that different types of peppers exhibit different explosion characteristics. This information should then be considered in explosion prevention.

As digitalization expands across all sectors, the economic toll of software defects on the U.S. economy reaches up to $2.41 trillion annually. High-profile incidents like the Boeing 787-Max 8 crash have shown the devastating potential of these defects, highlighting the critical importance of software testing within quality assurance frameworks. However, due to its complexity and resource intensity, the exhaustive nature of comprehensive testing often surpasses budget constraints. This research utilizes a machine learning (ML) model to enhance software testing decisions by pinpointing areas most susceptible to defects and optimizing scarce resource allocation. Previous studies have shown promising results using cost-sensitive training to refine ML models, improving predictive accuracy by reducing false negatives through addressing class imbalances in defect prediction datasets. This approach facilitates more targeted and effective testing efforts. Nevertheless, the generalizability of these models across different projects (cross-project) and programming languages (cross-language) remained untested. This study validates the model's applicability across diverse development environments by integrating various datasets from distinct projects into a unified, using a more interpretable ML approach. The results demonstrate that ML can support software testing decisions, enabling teams to identify up to seven times more defective modules with the same testing effort as a benchmark.

With the Sendai Framework (2015-2030) and the Paris Agreement (2015), the UN has been promoting at a global level, the priority objectives to protect the life and well-being of people, these documents of global consensus have scheduled in several countries, an extensive list of actions of responsibilities and commitments to the environment, to address natural disasters among those of greatest impact earthquakes and floods and among earthquakes (seismic activity). The materialization of the disaster is a natural or human-induced event, it manifests itself in permanent changes in society and by its origin it is classified as natural, anthropogenic (anthropogenic) and mixed, creating a worldwide problematic situation of immediate reaction. The attention and alert in the scientific community have been adding efforts, but in a disorganized way, with limited human and material resources and with globalized strategies still to be improved. The literature review of disaster risk management due to seismic activity, from 2008 to 2023, allows us to have updated information to identify the factors and deepen them, with the understanding, comprehension, and multidisciplinary knowledge. The selected researches that mention the factors (elements) that influence risk management of natural disasters due to seismic activity (RMNDDSA) allow us to know the advances and spaces to approach them, which constitutes the motivation to study the twenty-four (24) factors present in this type of disasters. The selected research articles indicate important advances that associate disaster risk management (DRM) and communication technology (ICTs). The technological means mentioned are well received and accepted by society, capable of detecting and communicating in real time seismic activity worldwide, with the help of social mobile networks, technological platforms, Twitter, Facebook, and others.

This study aimed to evaluate a cantilever beam-type piezoelectric energy harvester operating on train-induced vibrations for powering Wireless Sensor Networks (WSNs) used in railway track monitoring systems. The harvester's behaviors under different conditions are simulated in MATLAB using the analytical model. Natural frequency, maximum deflection, and stress were calculated with greater precision using eigenfrequency and stationary analysis using COMSOL Multiphysics. At a base excitation of 2 g and a resonant frequency of 4.38 Hz, the simulated results showed that the developed energy harvester prototype could generate up to 14 V of AC output voltage and 550 mW of output power. These findings highlight the promising potential of the proposed energy harvester for transforming train mechanical energy into electrical power. This energy harvester's viability and dependability for real-world applications in monitoring railway tracks are supported by developed analytical and simulation models.

Wireless Sensor networks (WSNs) are gaining more and more research interest due to their ability to monitor large areas more or less independent. However, their reliability is an important issue, since their system reliability is influenced from a hardware, a data and an energetic point of view due to different factors like loading conditions, signal attenuation and battery lifetime. Regarding these issues, the positions of sensor nodes have to be chosen correctly to maximize the system reliability, which has to be considered during the development of new products equipped with WSNs. In this paper, an approach to estimate a WSNs system reliability during the development phase based on the analysis of the measurements on the example of strain measurements in finite elements (FE) models is presented. For that, the part under consideration is divided into regions with similar strains by the use of a Region Growing Algorithm (RGA). Afterwards, the WSN’s configuration is analyzed regarding its reliability in accordance to the data paths and measurement redundancy due to the sensor positions in the found measuring regions. This methodology is tested on an exemplary WSN configuration at an aircraft wing box under bending load and was found to work very well regarding the estimation of the hardware perspective on the system reliability. Therefore, the methodology and the developed algorithm show potentials for optimizations in sensor node positions for better reliability results.

Fires in houses are inevitable and they cause loss of life and major repair costs for the damage structure and contents. There is a clear need to prevent its ignition and spread to adjacent areas. This article presents the steps taken, namely: contacts, data collection, tests, analysis and conclusions regarding the accident resulting from the outbreak and spread of a fire, on December 25, 2020, in a traditional Portuguese house in Arganil, Portugal. The owners and the court requested to carry out an expert opinion by a person with specialized technical-scientific knowledge, which led to this work as an expert. the work consists of carrying out observations and data analysis. Then, the observed and analysed data were laboratory tested in order to consistently identify characteristics that lead to the ignition and propagation of the fire. This work identified construction problems, materials used and heat sources that are responsible for the accident. The conclusions may be used to avoid future incidents or accidents with houses of same construction type.

Plain lakes play a crucial role in the hydrological cycle of a watershed, but their interactions with adjacent rivers and downstream water bodies can create complex river-lake relationships, often leading to frequent flooding disasters. Taking Poyang Lake as an example, this paper delves into its interaction with the Yangtze River, revealing the spatiotemporal patterns of flood propagation within the lake and its impact on surrounding flood control measures. The aim is to provide insights for flood management in similar environments worldwide. This study employs a comprehensive approach combining hydrological statistical analysis and two-dimensional hydrodynamic modeling, based on extensive hydrological, topographic, and socio-economic data. The results indicate that the annual maximum outflow from Poyang Lake is primarily controlled by floods within the watershed, while the highest annual lake water level is predominantly influenced by floods from the Yangtze River. The peak discharge typically reaches the lake outlet within 48 hours, with the peak water level taking slightly longer at 54 hours. However, water storage in the lake can shorten the time for the peak discharge to arrive. When converging with floods from the Yangtze River, the peak water level may be delayed by up to 10 days due to the top-supporting interaction. Furthermore, floods from the "Five Rivers" propagate differently within the lake, affecting various lake regions to differing degrees. Notably, floods from the Fu River cause the most significant rise in lake water level under the same flow rate. The top-supporting effect from the Yangtze River also significantly impacts the water surface slope of Poyang Lake. When the Yangtze River flood discharge far exceeds that of the "Five Rivers" (i.e., when the top-supporting intensity f value exceeds 4), the lake surface becomes as flat as a reservoir. During major floods in the watershed, the water level difference in the lake can increase dramatically, potentially creating a "dynamic storage capacity" of up to 840 million cubic meters.

Due to the significant price difference, expensive oils like olive oil are often blended with cheaper edible oils. This practice of adulteration in edible oils, aimed at increasing profits for producers, poses a major concern for consumers. Furthermore, adulteration in edible oils can lead to various health issues impacting consumer well-being. In order to meet the requirements of fast, non-destructive, universal, accurate and reliable quality testing for edible oil, the oblique-incidence reflectivity difference (OIRD) method combined with machine learning algorithms was introduced to detect a variety of edible oils. The prediction accuracy of Gradient Boosting, K-Nearest Neighbor, and Random Forest models exceeded 95%. Experimental results indicate that the OIRD method can serve as a powerful tool for detecting edible oils.

Contamination in coastal regions attributed to fluoride and nitrate cannot be disregarded, given the substantial environmental and public health issues they present worldwide. Maintaining water quality is crucial for environmental well-being. This comprehensive study was performed to assess the spatial as well as indexical water quality, identify contamination sources, and evaluate associated health risks pertaining to nitrate and flouride in AlHassa region, KSA. The physiochemical results revealed a pervasive pollution of the overall groundwater. The dominant water type was Na-Cl, indicating saltwater intrusion and reverse ion exchange impact. Spatiotemporal variations in physicochemical properties suggest diverse hydrochemical mechanisms, with geogenic factors primarily influencing groundwater chemistry. The groundwater pollution index varied between 0.8426 and 4.7172, classifying samples as moderately to very highly polluted. Similarly, the synthetic pollution index (in the range of 0.5021-4.0715) revealed that none of the samples had excellent water quality, with various degrees of pollution categories. Nitrate Health Quotient (HQ) values indicated chronic human health risks ranging from low to severe, with newborns being the most vulnerable. Household use of nitrate-rich groundwater for showering and cleaning did not pose significant health risks. Fluoride HQ decreased with age, and children faced the highest risk of fluorosis. The Hazard Index (HI) yielded moderate to high-risk values. Nitrate risks were 1.21 times higher than fluoride risks, as per average HI assessment. All samples fell into the vulnerable category based on the Total Hazard Index (THI), with 88.89% classified as very high risk. This research provides valuable insights into groundwater quality, guiding water authorities, inhabitants, and researchers in identifying safe water sources and vulnerable human populations. The results highlight the need for appropriate treatment techniques and long-term coastal groundwater management plans.

Biometric fingerprint identification hinges on the reliability of its sensors, however, calibrating and standardizing these sensors poses significant challenges, particularly in regard to repeatability and data diversity. To tackle these issues, we propose methodologies for fabricating synthetic 3D fingerprint targets, or phantoms, that closely emulate real human fingerprints. These phantoms enable the precise evaluation and validation of fingerprint sensors under controlled and repeatable conditions. Our research employs laser engraving, 3D printing, and CNC machining techniques, utilizing different materials. We assess the phantoms' fidelity to synthetic fingerprint patterns, intra-class variability, and interoperability across different manufacturing methods. The findings demonstrate that a combination of laser engraving or CNC machining with silicone casting produces finger-like shaped phantoms with high accuracy and consistency for rolled fingerprint recordings. For slap recordings, direct laser engraving of flat silicone targets excels and in the contactless fingerprint sensor setting, 3D printing and silicone filling provides the most favorable attributes. Our work enables a comprehensive, method-independent comparison of various fabrication methodologies, offering a unique perspective on the strengths and weaknesses of each approach. This facilitates a broader understanding of fingerprint recognition system validation and performance assessment.

The multi-objective optimization design of hydraulic climbing mechanism (the core mechanism of gantry crane) was realized by using the method of combining central composite design (CCD), Kriging and multi-objective genetic algorithm (MOGA). Firstly, the hydraulic climbing mechanism model was established and the appropriate design variables were selected. The mass, maximum deformation and maximum equivalent stress of the hydraulic climbing mechanism was taken as the optimization objectives. Through the comparative analysis of the parameters of wedge block, anchor block, anchor plate、baffle, the parameters that have the greatest impact on the optimization objectives are selected as geometric constraints. Then, according to the results of experimental design, Kriging model was used to establish the response surface optimization model of objective function. Finally, the optimal results were obtained by using MOGA method. The experimental results show that the optimization strategy is reliable, and the mass of the optimized model is reduced by 10.28%. While meeting the actual production requirements, the lightweight design of the hydraulic climbing mechanism is realized, which saves the design cost and improves the material utilization rate.

Fingerprint recognition systems have achieved widespread integration into various technological devices, including cell phones, computers, door locks, and time attendance machines. Nevertheless, individuals with worn fingerprints encounter challenges when attempting to unlock original fingerprint systems, resulting in disruptions to their daily activities. This study explores two distinct methods for fingerprint backup: traditional fingerprint impression and 3D printing technologies. Unlocking tests were conducted on commonly available optical fingerprint lock-equipped cell phones to assess the efficacy of these methods, particularly in unlocking worn fingerprints. The research findings indicated that traditional fingerprint impression method exhibited high fidelity in reproducing fingerprint patterns, achieving an impressive unlocking success rate of 97.8% for imprinting unworn fingerprints. However, when dealing with worn fingerprints, traditional fingerprint impression technique showed a reduced unlocking success rate, progressively decreasing with increasing degrees of finger wear. In contrast, 3D printed backup fingerprints, with image processing and optimization of ridge height, mitigated the impact of fingerprint wear on unlocking capability, resulting in an unlocking success rate of 84.4% or higher. Thus, the utilization of 3D printing technology proves advantageous for individuals with severely worn or incomplete fingerprints, providing a viable solution for unforeseen circumstances.

This investigation introduces an efficient method for assessing the reliability of semi-rigid steel frame connections in existing buildings, explicitly targeting the Top Angle and Seat Pad (TA-SP) semi-rigid connection commonly used in Australian cities' high-rise buildings. The moment capacity of these connections was examined through parameter power model testing, meticulously considering the bending, shear, and prying forces actions to determine the weakest elements in the connection system. A plastic hinge model was applied to ensure computational efficiency and accuracy in assessing the connections' ultimate strength. Comparatively, the finite element (F.E) method M−θ curves were introduced to scrutinise the nonlinear behaviour of the connection, providing validation for the predicted analytical approach. Further emphasis was placed on identifying the reliability of the weakest elements in the connection system, employing the First-Order and Second-Order Reliability Methods models to estimate their reliability index. The correlation between the model's failure probability and a percentile error was also explored, utilising Monte Carlo simulation reference for refined validation. Novel formulas and methodologies were introduced to compute the locked-chain-series system reliability, which accounts for the inherent material and geometric variability. The findings highlight the critical significance of the weakest element in determining the overall reliability of the existing TA-SP connection.

In the last decades, the impacts of urbanization on the hydrological cycle have led to an increase in the frequency and magnitude of urban flooding events, also amplified by the effects of climate change. Sustainable Drainage Systems (SuDS) provide a revolutionary change in this field, improving the sustainability and resilience of cities. This research explores the integration of different SuDS with the aim of significantly reducing both flow volume and celerity of floods in a residual urban catchment area of metropolitan city of Querétaro (Mèxico), where extreme rainfall frequently occurs. This catchment is a representative suburb of urban pressure and environmental degradation problems. Currently, managing storm water under climate uncertainty through a multi-disciplinary approach is a major concern in this urban area. A 1D-2D coupling model of shallow water equations, finite volume method, unstructured meshing method, and hybrid parallel computing application defined the optimal configuration of SuDS at catchment scale to reduce the flood vulnerability in Querétaro. Specifically, in this paper we explore the management issues of the proposed SuDS configuration that acts as a water resource system with multiple purposes. A generic simulation model called MODSIM was applied to simulate the designed urban drainage system under a balanced IPCC future climate scenario in terms of reliability, resilience and vulnerability against water scarcity.

The contribution of readymade garment (RMG) industry is immense behind the rapid development of some countries with emerging economies. This industry is empowering these countries to provide employment opportunities for millions of people. However, the health as well as safety issues of the workers in this industry are often ignored, particularly in these developing countries. In recent times, because of the several undesirable and obnoxious conditions that exist in their working environments, they are vulnerable to various health related problems which are increasing at a staggering rate. The main purpose of this paper is to assess and prioritize the major health related problems faced by these garment workers in these countries where the economy is flourishing. In addition, the main hazards responsible for these health perils are also quantified. Data were collected from three different garment factories situated in different locations of Bangladesh. Thirty workers from each factory rated the frequency and severity of 14 health related issues. The health risks were then assessed and prioritized through risk priority number (RPN). Afterwards, three experts provided their opinion on the main hazards prevalent in the workplace of almost every garment factory in this country. These hazards were grouped into four main classes which are: 1) Physical 2) Ergonomic 3) Chemical and 4) Psychological hazards. The main classes were later divided into sub classes also. Best-worst method (BWM) was then applied to analyze these hazards by assessing their relative weights depending on the experts’ judgement. The results showed that the health issues faced by the workers in three different garment factories varied to some extent. The results obtained from the experts’ opinion indicated that physical hazards in the workplace are the most detrimental ones whereas the chemical hazards were the least harmful.

The conformity assessment of products or a measured value with the given standards is carried out based on the global risk of producers and consumers calculation. A product may conform to specifications but be falsely rejected as non-conforming. This is about the producer's risk. If a product doesn't meet the requirements but is falsely accepted as conforming, that poses a risk to the consumer. The conventional approach to risk assessment, which yields only a single numerical value for the global risk of producers and consumers, is naturally extended, and utilized for assessing risk in measurement models with linear regression. The outcomes of the two-dimensional extension, along a moderate scale, are the parabolas with an opening upwards. Risk surfaces were obtained through three-dimensional extension over the area limited by the moderate scale and guard band axes. Four models with different ranges of tolerance intervals were used to test this innovative method of risk assessment in linear regression. The corresponding standard measurement uncertainties are determined by applying a simplified measurement model with the use of comprehensive data on the measurement performance and by determining measurement uncertainty derived from consideration of the functional relationship obtained by linear regression analysis. Models that utilize information from linear regression analysis to determine measurement uncertainty are biased towards risks at the edges of the moderate scale. Testing the model's performances with metrics related to the confusion matrix, such as the F1 score, further substantiated this assertion. The diagnostic odds ratio has been proven to be extremely effective in identifying the curve along the guard band axis, along which the global risks of producers and consumers are at their lowest.

Falls at height are among the major causes of fatal accidents at work, especially in the construction sector. Maintaining balance while performing a tool with both hands generates physical efforts and mental loading that needs to be managed for workers’ safety and health. The purpose of the study is to compare perceived (dis)comfort (overall and localized), the ergonomic risk and the perceived effort through the acquired postures that subjects assumed during the execution of simple and common tasks both on a ladder and on the ground. 26 subjects were asked to perform four tasks in both conditions: top screwing, frontal screwing, object picking from the bottom forward, and object picking from the bottom sideways. Subjective and objective data were gathered for assessing subjective experience (discomfort and effort, perceived) and ergonomic risk. Results highlighted few ergonomic risk differences among “on ladder” and “on ground” tasks, while subjective data reveal significant differences in different scenarios. Main results regard knees and neck areas as the most critical ones.

In an increasingly complex world there is a real, urgent need for methodologies to enable engineers to model complex sociotechnical systems, as these now seem to describe the majority of systems in use today. This is of course exacerbated by the increasing involvement and augmentation with “black box” AI contributions. Hollnagel produced a methodology, (FRAM) which did allow the analyst in-sights into these systems’ behaviour, but the model-based system engineering applications demand numbers and a quantitative ap-proach. In the last 10 years, this original approach developed to model systems as sets of interactive, interdependent “functions”, (abstracted from agent or component details), has been further developed to the point where it can take the basic data and structures from the current component focussed system engineering “models”, and can pull it all together into dynamic models, (as opposed to static, fixed System Theoretic Process Accimaps), from which analysts can discern how they really work in practice, and predict the emergent behaviours characteristic of complex systems. This paper describes how the FRAM methodology has now been extended to provide these extra, essential attributes. It also describes its implementation using an open-source software, freely available for use and verification on the GitHub site.

This article addresses the challenge of simulating rainstorm waterlogging in urban-scale areas where reliable drainage pipe network data is often lacking. Despite existing methods attempting to tackle this issue, there remains a gap in effectiveness. We present a novel approach, the Modified Equivalent Infiltration (MEI) method, building upon the foundation of the Equivalent Infiltration (EI) method. The study focuses on the outer ring area of Shanghai, utilizing data from the "In-Fa" typhoon period for simulation and comparison. Our findings reveal that the MEI method, requiring the same data inputs as the EI method, surpasses its predecessor in both principle and simulation results. Additionally, the MEI method demonstrates robustness in handling rainstorm waterlogging scenarios.

In his Cynefin classification of system behaviours, Snowden (2007), posits that his Simple (Clear ) and even Complicated system categories are sufficiently understandable to be amenable to the traditional methods of system analysis and modelling. Here, relationships between entities in the system are clear and unambiguous and they behave predictably. So, we can build mathematical “models” to describe how the system is expected to function in different situations. Leaving aside his fourth category, Chaotic, as too hard for the moment, this paper focusses on the third category, Complex systems. Yaneer Bar-Yam [1998] defined "complex systems" as systems that "have multiple interacting components, whose collective behaviour cannot be simply inferred from the behaviour of components." So, the traditional system modelling approach of decomposition into components and attempting to build up a picture of system performance from individual pieces, alone, is no longer appropriate for this class. The problem is that most of the methods we currently employ, and particularly the methods that attempt to make the case that these systems are safe, (such as Fault trees, FMEA. and Root Cause Analysis), rely on this decomposition into components and attempt to make the parts more reliable individually. Even the more systemic approaches, such as Reason’s (1990) Swiss Cheese Model, and Leveson’s System Theoretic Analysis (STPA) (2004), encourage adding layers of protection, barriers, strengthened control loops and better safety critical systems, in the hope that they are making the systems safer. But without a valid model to test the effectiveness of these add-ons, we cannot be sure that they will not have an opposite effect, of making the systems even more complex, unreliable and unpredictable. For complex systems, the careful gathering and documentation of system components and their relationships is still a necessary first step, but we need an additional capacity to model these complex systems to test out and prove they work safely and successfully in the real world. (not just draw fixed component relationships as system “models” (wiring diagrams)) In the last 10 years, an original approach developed by Hollnagel, (2012), to model systems as sets of interactive, interdependent “functions”, (abstracted from and independent of component details), has now been developed to the point where it can take the basic data and structures from the current component focussed system engineering “models”, such as MBSE( Goldberg (1994)), and can pull it all together in a dynamic system model from which analysts can discern how it really works in practice, and predict the emergent behaviours characteristic of complex systems. The paper describes how this methodology developed and how it is currently used to model real situations, to analyse incidents and anticipate events.

Post-earthquake fire is considered as a catastrophic secondary disaster to personal and property safety. In this article, an evacuation assessment of a complex rail transit station under the post-earthquake fire for sustainable buildings was conducted from the internal environment and external rescue based on Building Information Modeling (BIM) and Fire Dynamic Simulation (FDS). The internal environment evacuation assessment simulation experiments were conducted in six hypothetical high-risk scenarios. Besides, the external rescue assessment was based on investigation of the route and the rescue time required during different periods of holidays and workdays. The results show that: (1) The influence caused by different size of fire area in the power distribution room is smaller than those in the train at the platform floor. (2) In the case of fire scenarios with the same fire area but different fire locations, the impact on temperature is greater than that on CO concentration in power distribution room. (3) It shows slight differences between single-floor fire and double-floor fire on evacuation of small area fire in power distribu-tion room. Meanwhile, optimized design recommendations are proposed to reduce the risk of emergency evacuation in both internal and external environments of rail transit stations for sustainable future buildings.

The current context has proved unequivocally that public health is one of the pillars of society, playing a determining role and being a balancing factor. This study aimed to provide additional evidence supporting the use of geographic information systems in and from public health. For the study, the authors use public data from the Transparency COVID-19 data set at the Romanian level, which they process with the QGIS application, to effectively determine the influence of the location of the vaccination centers, respectively the impact on the incidence of COVID 19. The research carried out, which generated 153 maps, allows the statement, that reports based on the geographical location of data collected from the public health system are easier to analyze and to evaluate the effectiveness of the decisions taken. By analyzing the evolution of some public health indicators, that are difficult to correlate through analytical relationships, this study offers, as the main finding, an additional argument for the use of geographic information systems in public health management. As the limitations of research in the simulation component are relevant, further research is needed to provide the necessary evidence to convince about the effectiveness of using geographic information systems to optimize outcomes in the public health system. For this reason, it is necessary that the data structures in the public system, to be built and collected in a comprehensive way, with an optimal level of granularity.

As global warming intensifies, the development of offshore wind farms is swiftly progressing, especially deep-water floating offshore wind turbines (FOWTs) capable of energy capture in deep-sea regions, which have emerged as a focal point of both academic and industrial interest. Although numerous researchers have conducted comprehensive and multifaceted studies on various components of wind turbines, less attention has been paid to the operational stage response of FOWTs to wind, waves, and currents, and the reliability of structural components. This study primarily employs theoretical analysis to establish mathematical models under a series of reasonable assumptions, examining the possibility of collisions between FOWT transport fleets and other vessels in the passage area during the towing process. Using the model, this paper takes the Wanning Offshore Floating Wind Farm (FOWF) project, which is scheduled to be deployed in the South China Sea, as the research object and calculates the probability of collisions between FOWTs and other vessels in three time periods from the total assembly pier in Hainan Wanning to the predetermined position 22 km away. The findings of the analysis suggest that the mathematical model has the capability to efficiently determine the frequency of collisions between vessels within the domain and the transport team during the transportation process. This holds substantial relevance for future risk assessment and disaster prevention and mitigation measures in the context of FOWT transportation.

In the dynamic and complex environment of industrial control rooms, operators are often inundated with a multitude of tasks and alerts, which can lead to an overwhelming situation known as task overload. This state can precipitate decision fatigue and a heavier reliance on cognitive biases, potentially compromising the decision-making process. To mitigate such risks, the implementation of decision support systems becomes crucial. These systems are designed to assist operators in making swift and well-informed decisions, particularly when they sense their own judgment may be faltering. Our research introduces an AI-based framework that leverages dynamic influence diagrams and reinforcement learning to construct an effective decision support system. The cornerstone of this framework is the creation of a robust, interpretable, and efficient tool that supports control room operators during critical process disturbances. By integrating expert knowledge, the dynamic influence diagram forms a comprehensive model that captures the uncertainties inherent in complex industrial processes. It is adept at anomaly detection and recommending optimal actions. Moreover, this model is enhanced through a strategic partnership with reinforcement learning algorithms, which fine-tune the recommendations to be more context-specific and precise. The ultimate goal of our framework is to provide operators with a live, reliable decision support system that can significantly improve their response during process upsets. This paper outlines the development of our AI framework and its application within a simulated control room environment. Our findings indicate that the use of decision support systems can lead to improved operator performance and reduced cognitive workload. However, it also reveals a trade-off with situation awareness, which tends to diminish as operators may become overly reliant on the system’s guidance. Trust emerges as a critical factor in the adoption and effectiveness of decision support systems. Our research underscores the importance of balancing the benefits of decision support with the need for maintaining operator engagement and comprehension during process operations.

This paper presents an efficient topology optimization approach considering fail-safe requirements in the framework of the solid isotropic material with penalization method. Existing methods either are computationally extremely expensive or do not consider fail-safe requirements in the optimization. The current approach not only obtains the fail-safe optimization structure, but also significantly improves the computational efficiency of fail-safe topology optimization. In this method, the worst-case compliance is considered to minimize as the optimization objective, using the Kreisselmeier–Steinhauser function to approximate the non-differentiable max-operator. The sensitivity is derived by the adjoint method, and a general fail-safe optimality criteria method is developed to update design variables. The damage scenarios greatly reduces in the process of failsafe strategy optimization by employing the density-based filter method. Finally, the effectiveness and computational efficiency of this method for fail-safe optimization is verified by several numerical examples.

This paper examines the historical progression of construction risk management, highlighting the need to identify and classify risks promptly. The study examines various risk factors related to finance, law, environment, and logistics. The study explores various risk management strategies, such as contract management, risk distribution, evaluation, mitigation, and sharing. The article discusses the significant impact of risk management software, such as Procore, PlanGrid, e-Builder, Autodesk BIM 360, and Oracle Primavera, on improving project results. The study finishes by highlighting the importance of proactive risk management in protecting against financial losses and maintaining a reputation in the construction business.

Seismic vulnerability assessment in urban areas would in principle require the detailed modeling of each single building and the implementation of complex numerical calculations. This procedure is clearly difficult to apply at urban scale where many buildings have to be considered and therefore it is essential to have simplified, but at the same time reliable, approaches to vulnerability assessment. Among the proposed strategies, one of the most interesting concerns the application of machine learning algorithms, able to classify buildings according to their vulnerability on the basis of training procedures applied to existing datasets. In this paper machine learning algorithms will be applied to a dataset which collects and catalogs the structural characteristics of a large number of buildings and reports the damage observed in L’Aquila territory during the intense seismic activity occurred in 2009. A combination of a trained neural network and a random forest algorithm allows to identify an opportune “a-posteriori” vulnerability score, deduced from the observed damage, which is compared to an “a-priori” vulnerability one, evaluated taking into account characteristic indexes for building’s typologies. By means of this comparison an inverse approach to seismic vulnerability assessment, which can be extended to different urban centers, is proposed.

Fire hazards present a multifaceted global challenge that endangers human lives and environmental safety. Despite advancements in fire risk management technologies and methods, fires continue to be a prime concern for human security. The Arabian Gulf region, influenced by its climatic and environmental conditions, is especially susceptible to these threats. The Emirate of Sharjah, part of the United Arab Emirates, has made significant progress in reinforcing fire safety measures within residential structures, achieving a decrease in the number of fire-related accidents compared to neighboring Emirates. However, the incidence rate remains relatively high. This study undertook a thorough review and assessment of the existing Fire Management System (FMS) for Sharjah's residential sector, leading to the recommendation of a more robust framework. Through a series of literature reviews, interviews with stakeholders, and surveys, using analytical techniques such as the Delphi method and Failure Mode Effect and Criticality Analysis, vital factors that influence the FMS's effectiveness were pinpointed. The study exposed that the current FMS was largely reactive. In response, a proactive framework incorporating nine essential components was designed to strengthen the Sharjah FMS. These components span across various domains such as fire assurance, assessment of fire risks, management of accidents, evaluation of performance, training programs, research and development initiatives, digital services, monitoring of regulatory compliance, firefighting strategies, automated responses to fires, recovery processes, as well as the use of resilient materials and architectural design considerations. Furthermore, the research introduced two specific fire indexes, the HRBFI and the EFRI. Anchored in the principles of Systems Thinking and Industry 4.0, this proposed framework is aimed at streamlining Sharjah's approach to fire management in dwellings, with the objective of diminishing the frequency of fire incidents yearly. The ultimate aspiration of this framework is to enhance the Emirate's standing in terms of safety and to guarantee a living environment that is safeguarded against the risk of fires..

This paper investigated reliability modeling for systems subject to dependent competing risks considering that the variation of failure threshold is not considered in most studies on competing failure reliability. Firstly, the variation of degradation quantity under shocks was analyzed, and the variation of threshold was considered on this basis. Secondly, the cumulative degradation under the influence of the random shock process was analyzed. The attractive property of copula is symmetry. Then, A linear Wiener process model is applied to model performance degradation failure, and a multi-performance-degradation correlated-competition model based on a Copula function is constructed, which considers the correlated competition between multiperformance degradation failures. Lastly, the micromotor system is used to analyze the applicability of the proposed model for bivariate instances. demonstrating the rationality and effectiveness of the proposed model.

.Cloud manufacturing is an evolving networked framework that enables multiple manufacturers to collaborate in providing a range of services, including design, development, production, and post-sales support. The framework operates on an integrated platform encompassing a range of Industry 4.0 technologies, such as Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) devices, cloud computing, Internet communication, big data analytics, artificial intelligence, and blockchains. The connectivity of industrial equipment and robots to Internet opens the cloud manufacturing to the massive attack surface of cybersecurity and cyber crime threats caused by external and internal attackers. The impacts can be severe because physical infrastructure of industries is at stake. One potential method to deter such attacks involves utilizing blockchain and artificial intelligence to track the provenance of IIoT devices. This research explores a practical approach to achieve this goal by gathering provenance data associated with operational constraints defined in smart contracts and identifying deviations from these constraints through predictive auditing using artificial intelligence. A software architecture comprising IIoT communications to machine learning for comparing the latest data with the predictive auditing outcomes and logging appropriate risks was designed, developed, and tested. The state changes in the smart ledger of smart contracts were linked with the risks such that the blockchain peers can timely detect high deviations and take actions. The research defined the constraints related to physical boundaries and weight lifting limits allocated to three forklifts and showcased the mechanisms of detecting risks of breaking these constraints with the help of artificial intelligence. It also demonstrated state change rejections by blockchains at medium and high-risk levels. This research followed software development in Java 8 using JDK 8, CORDA blockchain framework, and Weka package for random forest machine learning. As a result of this, the model, along with its design and implementation, has the potential to enhance efficiency and productivity, foster greater trust and transparency in the manufacturing process, booster risk management, strengthen cybersecurity, and advance sustainability efforts.

The unsafe behavior of frontline workers at construction sites is the most important cause of construction accidents. This study proposed a comprehensive model of frontline workers' unsafe behaviors based on a systems perspective and used structural equation modeling (SEM) to explore the influence mechanisms between Objective Conditions (e.g., work environment, work climate, task complexity), Safety Management (e.g., safety education and training, safety reward and punishment regulations, safety inspection, safety technology disclosure, safety warning signs), Group Influence (propagation of unsafe behaviors among workers), Personal Perception (subjective judgment of operators on their safety knowledge and skills), and Unsafe Behaviors. Data from 460 frontline workers were collected through questionnaires and the correlation hypotheses were tested using SPSS 26.0 and Amos 26.0 software. The following conclusions were obtained: (1) Objective Conditions directly positively influence Safety Management, Group Influence, and Personal Perception, but indirectly negatively influence Unsafe Behavior; (2) Safety Management not only directly positively affects Personal Perception but also directly negatively affects Unsafe Behavior. However, the direct effect of Safety Management on Group Influence is not significant; (3) Group Influence has a direct positive effect on Unsafe Behavior, but the direct effect on Personal Perception is not significant; (4) The direct effect of Personal Perception on Unsafe Behavior is insignificant. These findings can be used as preliminary data to guide decision-makers or managers in construction companies to develop reasonable management plans to curb unsafe behaviors of frontline workers.

The occurrence rate of occupational accidents caused by slipping and falling is 50% worldwide. Determining the slip safety risk is necessary to minimize the accidents caused by slipping in pedestrian walking areas. By on-site testing, this study aims to determine the slip risks of floor coverings used in walking areas with many pedestrians in public service buildings (PSB). For this purpose, on-site measurements were performed in two environments and six locations in PSB using portable GMG 200 and pendulum testers operating according to DIN 51131 and TS EN 14231 standards. These tests were performed on four-floor coverings with polished surface treatment in PSB. Since the floor coverings measured have a polished surface, it can be seen that the dynamic friction coefficients (DCOF) values are very low, and the slip risks are high. By statistically analyzing the slip test data using the K-means method, a new safety classification was made according to the usage areas of floor coverings. To minimize the risk of slip safety, especially for students, patients, and employees in PSB, it is recommended to use floor coverings with high DCOF values and low slip risk.

Estimating the Remaining Useful Life (RUL) of aircraft engines holds a pivotal role in enhancing safety, optimizing operations, and promoting sustainability, thus being a crucial component of modern aviation management. Precise RUL predictions offer valuable insights into an engine’s condition, enabling informed decisions regarding maintenance and crew scheduling. In this context, we propose a novel RUL prediction approach in this paper, harnessing the power of Bi-directional LSTM and Transformer architectures, known for their success in sequence modeling, such as natural languages. We adopt the encoder part of the full Transformer as the backbone of our framework, integrating it with a self-supervised denoising autoencoder that utilizes Bidirectional LSTM for improved feature extraction. Within our framework, a sequence of multivariate time series sensor measurements serves as the input, initially processed by the Bidirectional LSTM autoencoder to extract essential features. Subsequently, these feature values are fed into our Transformer encoder backbone for RUL prediction. Notably, our approach simultaneously trains the autoencoder and Transformer encoder, different from the naive sequential training method. Through a series of numerical experiments carried out on the C-MAPSS datasets, we demonstrate that the efficacy of our proposed models either surpasses or stands on par with that of other existing methods.

In this paper, four lithological parameters, i.e. thermal conductivity, particle size, porosity and saturation, are investigated by combining experimental observations with numerical simulations to study the influence laws and mechanisms of action on the combustion process of methane hydrate sediments. The variation of combustion characteristics parameters such as flame height, effective combustion ratio and dimensionless discharge water mass with the lithological parameters are studied. In addition, the combustion mechanism of lithologic parameters on methane hydrate deposits is revealed. Combining the experimental results and simulation calculations, to optimize the combustion of methane hydrate sediments, it is recommended to use methane hydrate sediment samples with high saturation and low thermal conductivity, while the oxidant concentration and porosity of methane hydrate sediment samples should be increased.

In the wake of the rapid deployment of Small Modular Reactors (SMRs), this study aims to enhance the efficiency, reliability, and safety of SMR operations through a deeper understanding of human factors in their interaction within digital control room systems. Recognizing the pivotal role of human understanding in this new era of nuclear power, we employed electroencephalogram (EEG)-based monitoring to provide an unparalleled real-time view into operators' cognitive states. By interfacing detailed human models, informed by EEG metrics, with specific operational tasks, we recreate potential operational scenarios using an SMR simulator and capture intricate human responses therein. Our results elucidated the intricate relationship between EEG-derived data and human performance shaping factors, indicating a marked correlation between certain EEG patterns and operational efficiencies. Conclusively, these findings underscore the potential of EEG monitoring not only as a diagnostic tool but as an instrumental aid in the design and operation of future SMR digital control rooms. The insights derived offer a roadmap for the development of practical strategies, ensuring more effective and safer SMR operations.

The present work fronts the human pose estimation problem, developing a method that enables automated ergonomic risk assessment. A research methodology is developed to calculate joint angles from digital snapshots or videos by using computer vision and machine learning techniques to get a more accurate ergonomic risk assessment. Starting from an ergonomic analysis, the study explores the use of a semi-supervised training method to detect the skeletons of workers. The research methodology developed aims to infer the positions and angles of the joints, to calculate the criticality index based on the RULA scores and fuzzy rules. Then, to prevent work-related musculoskeletal disorders (WMSD), improve production capacity and decrease the ergonomic risk, the system uses joint with a collaborative robot to support the worker in carrying out the most critical operations. The method has been tested on a real industrial case in which manual assembly activities of electrical components are conducted. The approach developed can overcome the limitations of recent developments based on computer vision or wearable measurement, sensors by performing an assessment with an objective and flexible ap-proach to postural analysis development.

This article aims to assess, discuss and analyze the disturbances caused by electromagnetic field (EMF) noise of medical devices used nearby living tissues, as well as the corresponding functional control via the electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) of these devices. These are minimally invasive and non-ionizing devices allowing various healthcare actions involving monitoring, assistance, diagnosis and image-guided medical interventions. Following to an introduction of the main items of the paper, the different imaging methodologies are conferred, accounting for their nature, functioning, employment condition and patient comfort and safety. Then the magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) components and their fields, the consequential MRI-compatibility concept and possible image artifacts are detailed and analyzed. Next, the MRI-assisted robotic treatments, the possible robotic external matter introductions in the imager, the features of MRI-compatible materials and the conformity control of MRI-compatibility, are analyzed and conferred. Afterward, the embedded, wearable and detachable medical devices, their EMF perturbation control and their necessary shielding protection technologies are presented and analyzed. Then, the EMC control procedure, the EMF governing equations, the body numerical virtual models, are conferred and reviewed. A qualitative methodology, case study, simple example illustrating the mentioned methodology is presented. The last Section of the paper discussed potential details and expansions of the different notions conferred in the paper, in the perspective of monitoring the disturbances due to EMF noise of medical devices working near living tissues.

The spontaneous combustion of coal in goaf is the main cause of mine fire at present. Lignite has become a major hidden danger in mine production safety because of its easy oxidation. In this paper, an innovative strategy was proposed to inhibit the spontaneous combustion of lignite by using the principle of microbial-induced calcium deposition. Based on the optimized culture method, a novel composite inhibitor of Bacillus pasteurelli was prepared. SEM, pore size analysis and FT-IR experiments were carried out simultaneously, and the oxidation properties of lignite before and after inhibition were quantitatively characterized from the perspective of microstructure, and the flame retardant properties of microbial and chemical retardants on coal samples were compared. The results show that a large number of deposited calcium carbonate particles are obviously attached to the surface of lignite after microbial inhibition treatment, which plays a physical oxygen insulation role. At the same time, the total pore volume and specific surface area of the coal sample decreased by 68.49% and 74.01%, respectively, indicating that microbial inhibitors can effectively plug the primary pores of lignite. Based on the peak measurement of 400-4000cm-1 infrared spectrum of coal samples, it is found that the contents of active groups including hydroxyl, carboxyl and methyl/methylene in lignite molecules after microbial inhibition are lower than those in raw coal, especially the methyl/methylene content involved in the initial oxidation reaction decreased by 96.5% compared with the baseline content in raw coal. The results show that the oxidation and self-heating capacity of lignite after microbial inhibition is effectively restrained in the initial spontaneous combustion. The research results of this paper can provide effective solutions for the prevention and control of coal spontaneous combustion risk in mined-out area.

The design of water Vessel fender system can minimize impact energy, which could result in severe vessel or offshore structure damage during collision. In order to protect Offshore structures and vessels from damage after impact, a Fender design approach is proposed which uses Soft materials like rubber, sand, inflated rubber tube, etc. to reduce damage on impacted vessels as well as offshore structures like wind turbines, bridges, oil drilling platforms in water etc. The fender is designed in such a way that it can handle vessels made of different material, sizes, and weights.The proposed solution is a fender consisting of a number of layers of soft sandwich materials, each layer getting softer as it moves away from the structure i.e. Hard-Soft fender design which can absorb impact energy upon collision. To handle lighter vessels made of soft or brittle materials, the outer layer is made of inflatable or Very soft foam rubber; however, the inner layer covering the offshore structure is made of hard material to handle heavy vessels made of hard material such as steel. Furthermore, the use of sand as a natural fender along waterways such as narrow channels is also proposed to reduce the cost of fender installation and catastrophic vessel impact damage on rocky ground since it produces less deformation just like rubber fender as demonstrated in the simulation. Finite Element Analysis using ANSYS software, Explicit Dynamic Autodyn, was performed. The results showed a considerable decrease in the total deformation and internal energy of the vessel and fended structure when collision occurs. Furthermore, the result showed that Hard-Soft fender layer performs much better than Soft-Hard-Soft followed by Soft-Hard Fender layer design.

The current study primarily aimed to simulate detonation initiation via turbulent jet flame acceleration in partial-premixed H2-air mixtures. Different vertical concentration gradients were generated by varying the duration of hydrogen injection (referred to as diffusion time) within an enclosed channel filled with air. H2-air mixtures with average hydrogen concentrations of 22.5% (lean mixture) and 30% (near stoichiometric mixture) were investigated at diffusion times of 3, 5, and 60 seconds. Numerical results show that the vertical concentration gradient has a major influence on the early-stage of flame acceleration (FA). In the stratified lean mixture, detonation began in all the diffusion times, and comparing the flame-speed graphs showed that a decrease in the diffusion time and an increase in the mixture inhomogeneity speeded up the flame propagation and the jet flame to detonation transition occurrence in the channel. In the stratified H2-air mixture with an average hydrogen concentration of 30%, transition from a turbulent jet flame to detonation occurred in all the cases, and the mixture inhomogeneity weakened the FA and delayed the detonation initiation.

In this paper, aiming at the safety evaluation of ultimate bearing safety capacity of ultra-high-performance-concrete (UHPC) composite pile bridge foundation, the symmetrical reliability method with forward and inverse analysis considering the randomness of parameters is proposed to evaluate the safety performance of composite pile foundation. The proposed method, consid-ering the randomness of parameters, was used to calculate the safety factor of ultimate bearing capacity of composite pile foundation to meet the prescribed target reliability requirements. An example was used to verify the correctness of the proposed method. The proposed method was applied to an actual engineering example and the sensitivity of the parameters were analyzed, the calculation results show that: ignoring the randomness of the parameters will overestimate the safety of the composite pile foundation; the target reliability index has a great influence on the safety of composite pile foundation; the influence of statistical parameters of random variables on the safety of UHPC composite pile foundation cannot be neglected; the initial iteration value of the safety factor has no effect on the final calculation result. The proposed method has high ac-curacy and applicability, and provides an effective way for the safety factor estimation of ultimate carrying capacity of UHPC composite pile foundation.

This paper uses probability method to evaluate the fire safety performance of prestressed steel-concrete beam bridges based on simulation experimental research. Firstly, fire simulation experimental sample analysis was conducted on actual small box girder bridges to obtain the structural response of prestressed steel-concrete structures under fire, which is in line with engineering practice. Next, construct a reliability analysis model for the fire resistance performance of prestressed steel-concrete beam bridges; Combining reliability theory with finite element method, establish a reliability analysis method for the fire resistance performance of prestressed steel-concrete beam bridges. Subsequently, a safety factor evaluation model for the fire resistance performance of prestressed steel-concrete beam bridges was proposed, and a safety factor evaluation method for the fire resistance performance of prestressed steel-concrete beam bridges based on reliability back analysis was established. Finally, based on the analysis of the structural response after a fire in a specific case of a simply supported to continuous prestressed steel-concrete continuous beam bridge project, a structural resistance sample of the prestressed steel-concrete beam bridge is generated through uniform design method, and statistical analysis is conducted. Subsequently, probability methods are used to evaluate the safety of the prestressed steel-concrete beam bridge after a fire. Through analysis, it can be concluded that the time of fire has a significant impact on the structural performance of prestressed steel-concrete beam bridges, and the randomness of parameters has a significant impact on the safety reserve of prestressed steel-concrete beam bridges after fire. It is necessary to pay attention to it in specific engineering practice and strengthen the monitoring and statistics of structural random characteristics.

Wildfires can be destructive to highway infrastructure. Despite the substantial number of wildfires experienced every year, research on the physical impacts of wildfire on highways has been understudied. This research examines historical and potential future highway physical damage from wildfires. To accomplish our research objectives, we examined three major areas related to physical harm to highways and the consequences of that damage – physical characteristics, roadway impacts, and traffic impacts. These categories were subsequently broken into additional metrics, the first being physical characteristics, which includes length of highway affected and reduced average daily traffic (RADT) impacts during the event. Roadway impacts were broken into the number of trees requiring removal (those that present a danger either standing or fallen), pavement damage (burning asphalt concrete), slope/rock scaling (loose hazard rocks/vegetation), and structural damage (guardrail, signs, and delineators). Traffic impacts included the need for traffic control, road closures required, and reduced annual average daily traffic (RAADT) impacts for the year. The physical characteristics on the three highways researched during the 2020 Oregon Labor Day wildfires (Beachie Creek, Archie Creek, and Holiday Farm) indicated less than 61% of the highways were affected. The highway impacts, which included damage from hazard trees, damage to various structures – guardrail, signs, and delineators as well as bridges, slope/rock scaling damage and pavement destruction – averaged 34% for the three highways, while the three of eight arterial highway routes studied in the Oregon Cascades saw a 21% reduction in AADT. Results from this study can be used not only to assess physical damage to highways from wildfires, but as a baseline for measuring and assessing potential future wildfire highway impacts.

Polymers and their processing by engineering production technologies (injection, moulding or additive manufacturing) are being increasingly used. An explosive atmosphere can be created by the powder form of these polymer materials, and introduction of preventive safeguards to control safety is required for their use. Determination of the fire parameters of powder samples of Polyamide PA12, Polypropylene, and ultra-high molecular weight polyethylene (UHMW Polyethylene) is the subject of the current article. The results showed? that one of the samples used was not flammable and thus safe for use in terms of explosiveness. Two samples were flammable and explosive. The lower explosive limit was 30 g.m-3 (Polyamide PA12) and 60 g.m-3 (UHMW Polyethylene). The maximum explosion pressure of the samples was 6.47 (UHMW Polyethylene) and 6.76 bar (Polyamide PA 12). The explosion constant Kst of the samples was 116.6 bar.m.s-1 (Polyamide PA 12) and 97.1 bar.m.s-1 (UHMW Polyethylene). Therefore, when using polymers in production technologies, it is necessary to know their fire parameters, and to design effective explosion prevention measures for flammable and explosive polymers.

This study investigates the critical success factors (CSFs) of Lean Six Sigma (LSS) implementation and their impact on organizational growth in Nigerian enterprises. The objectives were to identify crucial CSFs for successful LSS deployment and assess their significance in achieving organizational growth. A mixed-method approach was used, including literature analysis, expert judgments, and a survey of 130 participants from various industries. The survey questionnaire employed a 5-point Likert scale to collect data on LSS CSFs and implementation success metrics. Structural equation modeling (SEM) with SmartPLS 4.0 analyzed the data, revealing that LSS CSFs significantly contribute (up to 39.2 percent) to the success of LSS implementations. The study identified 12 critical LSS CSFs, categorized into workers, business, and management, each influencing LSS implementation. Recommendations include creating a supportive environment, providing comprehensive training, and prioritizing continuous improvement efforts for successful LSS deployment. Future research possibilities include longitudinal studies, sector-specific analyses, and qualitative investigations to deepen understanding and enhance LSS implementation outcomes. In conclusion, successful LSS implementation empowers Nigerian organizations with improved productivity, waste reduction, and sustainable production systems, leading to overall growth and success.

Genetic engineering technology offers opportunities to improve many important agronomic traits in crops, including insect-resistance. However, genetically modified (GM) exogenous proteins in edible tissues of transgenic crops has become an issue of intense public concern. To advance the application of GM techniques in maize, a Cre/loxP-based strategy was developed for manipulating the transgenes in green tissues while locking it in non-green tissues. In the strategy, the site-specific excision can be used to switch on or off the expression of transgenes at specific tissues. In this work, two basic transgenic maize named KEY carrying the Cre gene and LOCK containing the Vip3A gene with a blocked element, were obtained based on their separate fusion gene cassettes. The expression level and concentration of Vip3A were observed with high specific accumulation in green tissues (leaf and stem), and only a small amount in root and kernel tissues in the KEY × LOCK hybrids. The insect-resistance of transgenic maize against two common lepidopteran pests, Ostrinia furnacalis and Spodoptera frugiperda, was assessed in the laboratory and field. The results indicated that the hybrids possessed high resistance levels against the two pests, with mortality rates above 73.6% and damage scales below 2.4 compared with the control group. Our results suggested that the Cre/loxP-mediated genetic engineering approach has a competitive advantage in GM maize. Overall, findings from this study are significant for providing a feasible strategy for transgenes avoiding expression in edible parts and exploring novel techniques toward the biosafety of GM plants.

Transportation authorities aim to boost road safety by identifying risky locations and applying suitable safety measures. The Highway Safety Manual (HSM) is a vital resource for US transportation professionals, aiding in the creation of Safety Performance Functions (SPFs), which are predictive models for crashes. These models rely on Negative Binomial distribution-based regression and misinterpreting them due to unmet statistical assumptions can lead to erroneous conclusions, including inaccurately assessing crash rates or missing high-risk sites. The Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) has introduced context classifications to HSM SPFs, complicating assumption violation identification. This study, part of an FDOT-sponsored project, investigates established statistical diagnostic tests to identify model violations and proposes a novel approach to determine optimal spatial regions for Empirical Bayes adjustment. This adjustment aligns HSM-SPFs with regression assumptions. The study employs a case study involving Florida roads. Results indicate that a 20-mile radius offers an optimal spatial sample size for modeling crashes of all injury levels, ensuring accurate assumptions. For severe injury crashes, which are less frequent and harder to predict, a 60-mile radius is suggested to fulfill statistical modeling assumptions. This methodology guides FDOT practitioners in assessing the conformity of HSM-SPFs with intended assumptions and determining appropriate region sizes.

Separation Distances are used throughout the world to protect people and assets from the potential hazardous effects from propellants, explosives, and pyrotechnics. The current separation distances for Hazard Division (HD) 1.3 substances and articles used in the United States, in some cases, may not adequately protect against the effects from heat flux and debris when those substances and articles are ignited in a confined structure. Multiple tests in such a confined scenario with HD 1.3 substances have shown that the heat flux and debris hazards could result in injury at distances beyond the current specified explosives safety separation distance (ESSD). Herein are recommended ESSD’s for confined as well as unconfined HD 1.3 articles and substances based on the analysis of hundreds of tests. Recommended ESSD’s include a smaller value for unconfined quantities less than 145 kilograms and ESSD’s that are consistent with NATO distances for confined substances and articles.

In this paper we consider a failed cold standby systems and obtain some stochastic bounds on the idle time of such systems. It is assumed that, at a time t the failure of a cold standby system is observed, but the actual time of the failure is a time before t. The idle time of the inactive cold standby system is measured as the time between the exact time of failure, which is a random variable, and time t. We use the idle times of the components of the system to obtain lower and upper bounds on the lifetime of the standby system to which they are assembled. We bring some examples to show that the results and the conditions imposed to get them are achievable.

This paper presents a limited scope dynamic probabilistic risk assessment (D-PRA) on the survivability of commercial of the shelf (COTS) drones tasked with surveilling areas with varying radiation levels after a nuclear accident. The D-PRA is based on a discrete-dynamic event tree (D-DET) approach, which couples with the OpenEPL error propagation framework to model sequences leading to Loss of Mission (LOM) scenarios due to component failures in the drone’s navigation system. Radiation effects are simulated by calculating the total ionizing dose (TID) against the permissible limit per component, and errors are propagated within the electronic hardware and software blocks to quantify navigation system availability per radiation zone. The proposed methods are integrated into the traditional event tree/fault tree approach and the most vulnerable components are radiation-hardened (RAD-HARD) to the extent specified by a predefined mission success criterion. The results demonstrate the usefulness of the proposed approach in performing trade studies for incorporating COTS components into RAD-HARD drone designs.

Water management systems help allocate water resources effectively, considering various demands such as agriculture, industry, domestic use, and environmental needs. They optimise water distribution and ensure equitable access, minimising water scarcity and conflicts. Critical elements of this system are often the target of various attacks. Depending on the target of the attack, different scenarios based on physical, cyber, or combined forms of attacks can be used. Requirements for the protection of water objects forming part of the critical infrastructure system are determined primarily by generally binding legal regulations, technical standards, or other requirements of third parties. These requirements imply the need to adopt certain protective measures. Physical protection system (PPS), as a convenient way of organising protective measures, makes it possible to prevent an unauthorised person from achieving his goal. Current procedures aimed at protecting objects use a qualitative or quantitative approach. The article presents the use case of a possible way to protect a selected water reservoir that has been identified as a national element of critical infrastructure in the subsector Drinking Water Provision. The use case is based on the analysis of safety requirements and subsequent design of the PPS water reservoir. To verify the functionality of the proposed PPS, a quantitative PPS model was created using a software tool, and four possible attack scenarios were simulated.

Single and multi-vehicle crashes are a significant issue that causes economic and social costs and has therefore gained attention. This study explored the factors associated with injury severity for both single- and multi-vehicle crashes using over 550,000 crash data points in Japan between 2019 and 2021. We identified the determinants of road infrastructure and traffic control while controlling for driver, vehicle, environmental, and accident characteristics by applying ordered logit and bias-reduced binomial regression models. Our findings are as follows. 1) Traffic control variables did not affect single-vehicle crashes. 2) Guardrails had a higher severity in both single-vehicle crashes and multi-vehicle crashes at intersections. 3) The impact of the centerline differed between intersections and non-intersections for multi-vehicle crashes.  These results of this study provide transportation agencies with important guidance as to the road infrastructure and transport control.

This paper presents a scenario evolution model for maritime accidents using Bayesian networks (BN) to predict the most likely causes of specific types of maritime incidents. The BN nodes encompass accident type, life loss contingency, accident severity, the quarter and time period of the accident, and the type and gross tonnage of the ships involved. We analyzed 5,660 global maritime accidents from 2005 to 2020. Using Netica software, we constructed a Tree Augmented Network (TAN) model, accounting for interdependencies among risk influencing factors. We validated the results through sensitivity analysis and historical accident records. Forward causal inference and reverse diagnostic inference were then performed on each node variable to investigate the accident development trend and evolution process under predetermined conditions. The findings indicate that the model can effectively predict the likelihood of various accident scenarios under specific conditions, as well as the extrapolation of accident consequences. Forward causal reasoning reveals that general cargo ships with a gross tonnage of 1-18,500 t are most likely to experience collision, grounding, and stranding accidents in the first quarter. Reverse diagnostic reasoning indicates that during early morning hours, container ships, general cargo ships, and chemical ships with a tonnage of 1-18,500 t are less likely to involve life loss in the event of collision accidents.

A simulation test system for the two-dimensional (2D) fuze overload loading process was designed to address the loading issues of recoil overload and centrifugal overload in fuze safety and arming (S&A) devices. By incorporating centrifuge rotation energy storage, impact acceleration simulation, and equivalent centrifugal rotation simulation, a block equipped with a fuze S&A device was accelerated instantly upon being impacted by a centrifuge-driven impact hammer, simulating recoil overload loading. The impact hammer was retracted instantaneously by adopting an electromagnetic brake, which resulted in the centrifugal rotation of the block around its track, to simulate the centrifugal overload loading. The dynamic equations of the simulation test system and the equations of impact hammer motions were established, whereby the rotation speed of the centrifuge and the braking force of the electromagnetic brake were calculated and selected. A dynamic model of the collision between the impact hammer and block was established using ANSYS/LS-DYNA software for simulation analysis. The acceleration curves of the recoil overload and centrifugal overload with variations in the centrifuge speed, cushion material, and buffer thickness were obtained, which verified the feasibility of the proposed loading simulation method. 2D overload loading simulation tests were performed using the developed simulation system, and the acceleration curves of the recoil overload and centrifugal overload were measured. The test results indicated that the proposed system can accomplish 2D overload loading simulations for a recoil overload of several 10000 g and centrifugal overload of several 1000 g.

The safety of a pedestrian crossing may depend on infrastructure, vehicular and pedestrian traffic characteristics. This research portrays the safety challenges caused by vehicles on crosswalk in the City of Kigali. Through observing the stopping of drivers in pedestrian crossing events, the study aims to evaluate driver’s behaviors against traffic flow parameters. 10 collection sites were finally selected purposively and randomly to suit observations for data recording. A total of 10,259 crossing events were recorded within 280 hours. Statistical analysis, tests and Binary logistic regression model were used to evaluate the behaviors. Sadly,82.4% drivers violate crosswalks, endangering crossing. Motorcyclists exhibit the most aggressive behavior. Car drivers are relatively less aggressive,60% managed to brake in the events. Buses and bicycles share a negligible collective of 2%, being aggressive and would not stop. Cars are 10.389 times more likely to stop compared to bicycles. Having more vehicles in a row is safer to cross, for each unit increase on the vehicle density scale, there were 1.956 more chances that every driver would stop.13% to 21% of traffic variables predict the variance in stopping behaviors model.

Lamb wave-based structural health monitoring is widely acknowledged as a reliable 11 method for damage identification, classification, localization and quantification. However, due to 12 the complexity of Lamb wave signals, especially after interacting with structural components and 13 defects, interpreting these waves and extracting useful information about the structure's health is 14 still a major challenge. However, deep learning-based strategy offers a great opportunity to address 15 such challenges as the algorithm can operate directly on raw discrete time-domain signals. Unlike 16 traditional methods, which often require careful feature engineering and preprocessing, deep learn-17 ing can automatically extract relevant features from the raw data. This paper proposes an autoen-18 coder based on a bidirectional long short-term memory network with maximal overlap discrete 19 wavelet transform layer to detect the signal anomaly and determine the location of the damage in 20 the composite structure. This approach has the potential to greatly enhance our ability to detect and 21 locate structural damage in composite structures, thereby increasing safety and efficiency.

This work analyzes a new indoor laboratory data set looking at early fire indicators in controlled and realistic experiments representing different incipient fire scenarios. The experiments were performed within the confines of an indoor laboratory setting using multiple distributed sensor nodes on different room positions. Each sensor node collected data of particulate matter (PM), volatile organic compounds (VOC), CO, CO2, H2, UV, air temperature and humidity in terms of a multivariate time series. These data hold immense value for researchers within the machine learning and data science communities who are keen on exploring innovative advanced statistical and machine learning techniques. They serve as a valuable resource for the development of early fire detection systems. The analysis of the collected data was carried out in dependence of the manhattan distance between the fire source and the sensor node. We found that especially larger particles (> 0.5 μm) and VOCs show a significant dependency with respect to the intensity as a function of the manhattan distance to the source. Moreover, we observed differences in the propagation behavior of VOCs, PM, and CO, which are particularly relevant in incipient fire scenarios due to the presence of strand popagation effects.

It has been known for nearly over 150 years that fatigue life data exhibits a considerable amount of variability. Furthermore, statistically modeling fatigue life adequately is challenging. Different empirical approaches have been used, each of which has merit; however, none is appropriate universally. Even when a sufficiently robust database exists, the scatter in the fatigue lives may be extremely large and difficult to characterize. The complications in empirical modeling are exacerbated for long life estimation when experimental observations are rare. The purpose of this work is to review traditional and more modern empirically based methodologies for estimating the cumulative distribution functions for fatigue life, given an applied load. To assess the applicability of the methods confidence bounds will be estimated. The analyses will be performed on an historic set of data for annealed aluminum wire tested in reverse torsion fatigue. These data are available in publications. It is recommended that a time dependent distribution function that is an based on principles of reliability that can be generalized for a variety of modeling applications should be considered for fatigue life estimation.

Scanning underwater areas, using magnetometers, in search of unexploded ordnance is a difficult challenge, where machine learning methods can find a significant application. However, this requires the creation of a set enabling the training of prediction models. Such a task is difficult and costly due to the limited availability of relevant data. To meet this challenge in the article, we propose the use of numerical modeling to solve this task. The conducted experiments allow us to conclude that it is possible to obtain high compliance of the numerical model with the results of physical tests. In addition, the paper discusses the methodology of simplifying the computational model, allowing for almost three times reduction of the calculation time. In addition, in the work we present the methodology of creating an appropriate data set, enabling the generation of any number of training samples.

A series of water diversion projects to address the uneven distribution of water resources in China involve the construction of a large number of hydraulic tunnels. As the lining structure that maintains the stability and durability of the tunnels, it is prone to durability damage during the operation process, which in turn affects the water transmission safety and water supply capacity. Therefore, it is important to evaluate the durability of hydraulic tunnel lining structure. Considering the randomness and fuzziness of the factors affecting the durability of hydraulic tunnel lining structure, this paper proposes a comprehensive evaluation model based on the coupling of set-pair analysis and extension. The G1 method and the simple correlation function method are used to determine the subjective and objective weights of the evaluation indexes respectively, and the combination weight is assigned based on the principle of minimum entropy; the set-pair analysis principle is used to establish the linkage affiliation function, calculate the comprehensive linkage affiliation of the object to be evaluated, and the maximum affiliation principle is used to judge the durability level of the hydraulic tunnel lining structure. Finally, taking a section of hydraulic tunnel as an example, the model proposed in this paper is used to calculate its durability grade as Class III, with the set-pair potential SHI(H) = 7.5856, which is consistent with the actual engineering practice, and a comparative study is done in combination with the AHP-Extenics method. It is verified that the evaluation model can scientifically and reasonably evaluate the durability of hydraulic tunnel lining structure, providing a basis for subsequent maintenance and reinforcement.

Fires are the leading cause of death, serious injury and property damage. In the past, schools, temples and government offices had more frequent fires than they should. Statistics showed that the number of fires between 2017 to 2022 amounted 13,593 cases which mostly occurred in the school, temple and government offices (40.0% of all buildings). Moreover, it causes more damage among disabled especially the blinds who has a limited vision. Therefore, this cross-sectional purpose of this study was to assess fire risk including management model in school for the blind. The fire checklists, brainstorming and Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP) were applied to estimate the fire risk in school for the blind building. The findings revealed an inherent fire hazard factors with a risk score equal to 3.2830 and evacuation factors with a risk score equal to 3.3178 were acceptable risk except the fire control factors with a risk score equal to 1.4320 was unacceptable risk may cause an impact on life, health, property and public communities. Eventually, efforts should be made to supervise those risk factors by designing suitable activities to reduce undesirable conditions in school for the blind.

The natural frequency of buildings decreases during a strong-motion earthquake, and the structure loses its stiffness. As a result, understanding the damaging process in the structure owing to changes in structural properties is critical during a seismic excitation. The time-frequency technique can detect the damaged building’s time-varying frequency contents. Wigner distributions (WD), Wigner-Ville distributions (WVD), pseudo-Wigner-Ville distributions (PWVD), smoothed pseudo-Wigner-Ville distributions (SPWVD), and synchrosqueezing transforms (SST) have all become popular in recent years for a variety of earthquake engineering applications, including building damage detection. This study proposes the local maximum synchrosqueezing transform (LMSST) for detecting frequency shifts in buildings during strong earthquakes. The data presented in the research show that the suggested method outperforms as compared to the conventional time-frequency methods for detecting frequency shifting in earthquake-damaged structures.

Navigation systems are considered as a fast and efficient source of road information to drivers. However, they can distract drivers with more potential accidents on the road. This study examined the effect of navigation systems on driver distraction and visual search while driving in different driving conditions. An eye-tracking system was used to collect visual search data from twenty young drivers while using a driving simulator. Several factors were investigated, including the driving environment (urban and rural), the illumination level (day and night), and the display of the navigation system (large and small) as well as their interactions. Several measures related to eye movements were used in this experiment, including percentage of total Global Positioning System (GPS) fixation duration, average duration of GPS fixation, GPS fixation frequency, the percentage of total dwell duration for the road ahead, the frequency of dwelling on the mirrors and driver’s right and left side windows, and the percentage of dwellings on the mirrors and driver’s right and left side windows. Statistical analysis of the collected data was performed with repeated measures analysis of variance (ANOVA). The experiment revealed that the small GPS display creates more distraction in terms of average gaze duration and total gaze duration. Moreover, daytime driving conditions increase distraction. Regarding the driver’s visual search, the study showed that the visual search area is wider and more spread out during the day, which leads to better driving performance. This study will compare small and large navigation displays to determine which one is more effective in reducing driver distractions, and contribute to understanding driver distraction and visual search while using the navigation system display.

Chemical safety is related to public health, safety and environmental concerns, and the dangerous chemicals safety problem is becoming the one that people commonly pay attention to. Strengthening chemical safety supervision not only involves safe production, but also is an important link to maintain social safety. Most related studies focus on chemical safety under normal regulation, this paper addresses the perspective of ‘special rectification’ and ‘normal regulation’, and establishes an evolutionary game model between chemical enterprises and government supervision departments under different supervision modes. Based on the evolutionary game theory, this paper studies the evolution process of the two game players' strategy choices, and compares and analyzes the evolution, stability and equilibrium between the chemical safety and the behavior strategies of government regulatory departments. The model is effectively analyzed based on numerical simulation, and the results show that: Under the ‘special rectification’ mode, the strategic choice of chemical enterprises engaging in safety without investment depends on the difference between the benefits and costs of safety without investment; In the ‘normal regulation’ mode, the choice of its safety non-investment strategy depends on the difference between the cost of engaging in safety investment and the cost of safety non-investment; Increasing the government's punishment will encourage chemical enterprises to take safety investment behavior under the two supervision modes. Increasing the punishment has a significant impact on the safety investment behavior of chemical enterprises under the ‘normal regulation’ mode, but it has no significant impact on the behavior of chemical enterprises under the ‘special rectification’ mode. At the same time, increasing the punishment will inhibit the strict supervision behavior of the government. The research conclusion provides important decision support for government departments to effectively supervise the safety production of chemical enterprises.

The aim of innovations in road safety is to contribute to better protection of road users and to minimize damage to their property. The main objective of the article is to identify disparities in the perception of an innovation element in road safety by road users based on their type of employment and the number of kilometers driven per year. The research will evaluate the attitudes of selected groups of road users based on the number of kilometers driven in a calendar year and whether driving a motor vehicle is their main job duty. The analysis involved 239 respondents using a paper questionnaire. Disparities in the perception of innovations in road safety were evaluated using contingency tables, chi-square tests, non-parametric tests, and Cramer's V. Road users feel much safer with a front braking light when crossing traffic of vehicles and pedestrians (71%); at pedestrian crossings (74%); when turning left (63.4%); as well as when crossing traffic of multiple vehicles (62.5%). Disparities among respondents based on the type of employment of the road user were not confirmed. Conversely, road users with a higher number of kilometers driven per year have a more positive perception of the innovation element at pedestrian crossings.

In current study, the production of microparticles from fifteen commercial sugarcane pulp (SCP) lunch-boxes into different types of food under different conditions was investigated, where we used DI water, 4% HAc, and 95% EtOH to simulate aqueous, acidic, and fatty foods. Results showed that compared with DI water and 95% EtOH, 4% HAc caused the degradation of sugarcane fibers, resulting in the highest number of microparticles released, which was significantly greater than the specified limit value. It was estimated that consumers might intake a total number of 36,400 ~ 231,700 items per meal per lunch-box, of which the proportion of microparticles with particle size between 100 ~ 500 μm was the largest, with a number of 12,376 ~ 130,795 items. Moreover, of all SCP lunch-box except S-11, Al and Fe are the main metals, ranging between 35.16 ~ 1244.04 and 44.71 ~ 398.52 mg/kg, respectively, followed by Pb, Ti, and Sr. Interestingly, unlike other lunch-boxes, the content of Pb in S-11 was the highest, with a number of 136 mg/kg. This study provides important information that the safeness including both the production of microparticles and the metallic elements should be considered for SCP lunch-boxes when in contact with food.

DNS is a necessary infrastructure for accessing the Internet. Until now, privacy protection in domain name resolution has mainly focused on end user privacy (communication encryption between clients and DNS full-service resolver). For this reason, communication between DNS full-service resolver and authoritative DNS servers is still done in plaintext. A DNS request from a DNS full-service resolver to an authoritative DNS server does not pose a privacy issue because the source IP address that comes from is the DNS full-service resolver. However, in recent years, there have been reports of specific techniques for identifying the privacy of previously unknown institutions by analyzing the logs of authoritative DNS servers. In order to further strengthen privacy in DNS communication, we proposed an architecture to encrypt all DNS communication in DoH, created a prototype environment, and investigated performance evaluation. The main contributions of this paper are threefold. First, we proposed the Full-DoH DNS architecture. This is a domain name resolution framework designed specifically for institutional privacy. Second, we evaluated the proposed architecture through a prototype implementation. Finally, we discussed related issues to the proposed architecture.
